Inter vs Juventus: The Match Summary

Inter, they defeat Juve in a match with massive, massive top of the table implications.

Controversial Refereeing Decisions

Speaker
However, the thing that most seem to be discussing today is, of course, the refereeing performance. So what were your biggest takeaways from yesterday evening?

I thought it was scandalous to decide such a big game with such a soft penalty for two reasons. First of all, never in a million years is there enough contact for that to be a penalty. I mean, if you slow it down and freeze it, you can maybe make the argument that it's a foul. But if you see it in normal play, there's barely any pressure there.

from Murata on Dumfries. And the second point to make on this is whether or not you think it is or isn't a penalty. The referee originally didn't give the penalty.

Juventus Fans' Reactions

It was only given after VAR intervened. And by the rules, as we've been told for years, decisions should only be overturned if the mistake is clear and obvious. It's not clear and obvious, so it shouldn't have been overturned.

For the other incidents in the game, I mean the Zacharia penalty and the Lautaro yellow card, I think the point is, and why Juventus fans feel so aggrieved, is that there were three big incidents in this game and they all went against Juventus. The penalty is clear as Morata stomps on Dumfrey's foot, and Irati not seeing it makes it a clear and obvious error which brings it within the remit of the VAR. Also we have to remember in the reverse fixture at the San Siro earlier this season, which is also a big game decided by the VAR,

Alexandra was awarded a penalty after VAR review for Denzel Dumfries' kick. If that situation is deemed a clear and obvious error, as it was, and if that is a stone wall penalty, well then yesterday at the Allianz Stadium we saw the Great Wall of China of clear

Referee Irati's Performance Assessment

penalties. As for the Zakaria Bastoni situation, it's hardly even a free kick, let alone a penalty. But Zakaria is outside the penalty area when Bastoni pushes him. Lautaro was lucky not to be sent off for a second yellow, just like Rabio was lucky not to be sent off for a second yellow,

which makes Irati's referee inconsistent, which is literally the love referee's job. So Juventus fans have literally nothing to complain about.
