What is up, Shaping Nation? This is Nick Torres here. And on this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm going to be talking about creating a Pinterest board and how this is going to help you come up with new ideas for your own theme of what you're making.

You see, I just recently interviewed Anna Cummins. And one of the things that I asked her was that I asked her what advice would you give to someone trying to expand their work while still trying to stick to their own theme. And in this, she gave some really great advice. She said to create a Pinterest board.
00:01:17
Speaker
And in this Pinterest board, it doesn't have to be all about pottery. It's just basically you're choosing your own thing. And she gave a really great example. She said, let's say you are creating skull art.
00:01:30
Speaker
and you in this pinterest board you have a bunch of skull art maybe skulls in forest skulls in like on a pirate ship and just a bunch of skull art and you have that pinterest board and you're just constantly saving ideas around that theme of what you have chose to make your pottery about
00:01:51
Speaker
And this is some really solid advice if you have your own theme for your pottery or if you're just looking to make your voice go even further and you push your style even further. Having an idea board or a Pinterest board is super great for coming up with new ideas for your pottery. You see, I don't recommend that you go out and try to look at everybody's pottery
00:02:20
Speaker
because then what's going to happen is you're going to get overwhelmed with how many different styles of pottery there are. But having a Pinterest board that revolves around one single theme of whatever you're trying to make
00:02:35
Speaker
then your voice is going to go a lot further because you are more niched down into what you are working
Thematic Focus for Pottery Niche Development

on. You have a theme for your pottery and in this Pinterest board you have a bunch of ideas that can help you make your pottery look even better. So how do you go about really finding your your ideas? Well first you need to pick a theme for your pottery.
00:02:59
Speaker
A theme is probably the most important thing that you can do in this little little idea that I'm giving you here. A theme is going to allow you to really pursue your niche down your pottery, and it's going to allow you to branch out into different areas. So you must pick a theme first, whatever it is, it could be carving and or it could be animals,
00:03:20
Speaker
and you can just have carving animals and you can have a bunch of different animals in your Pinterest board and with that you come up with ways to help you carve animals.
00:03:32
Speaker
Or on the other hand, you could do something completely different. It could be something really simple. It could be glazes. That's it. And in this Pinterest boards, you look at different glazes and maybe you try to replicate those glazes and try to add some maybe polka dots into your glazes so that you are making your pottery look a little bit better.
