DailySaintsPod: I will say like another positive about this game is obviously matsy Matsky came on and made a big difference. We talked about James Ward -Prowse, but considering he kind of struggled a little bit against Millwall and then obviously Fellows came on and Fellows scored, although admittedly on the other side.

DailySaintsPod: As pointed out to me by one of our listeners, because clearly I think I was talking to you about that last game where I was like.

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: i i had about two two minute period where i suddenly was really confused by where I was trying to slot where all the players were in my head. and let's just say that the the way i was watching it meant that i was trying to make out Silhouettes more than numbers and people.

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: So I just didn't really notice it as much. obviously today he he obviously started in his more natural position and you know almost had a chance uh teed up by leo sienza But Matsky came on and made a big difference and made a nuisance of himself.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: And at one point, they finally picked up a card after an extremely... Let's just say it. topsy -turvy refereeing performance where neither team was probably happy.

Greg: Thank you. Yeah, just just rubbish both ways.

DailySaintsPod: with

Greg: but but Like we say, for all of that, the the goal...

DailySaintsPod: Yeah.

Greg: that was disallowed, one of those that wasn't. questionable at all because i counted three counts of offside right the flick on was offside

DailySaintsPod: Yeah.

Greg: Matsky was offside from the flick -on and Matsky was offside if there wasn't a flick -on. So, just... just completely offside in every possible way.

DailySaintsPod: I was really glad at how hungry he was to come on. Right.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: However, Maybe a little bit too hungry in that instance. But I think that he did he was a lot more positive this game and the energy from him and Ward -Prowse was quite positive.

DailySaintsPod: Again, Obama just struggled. I think. larry and also struggled admittedly larry might have been fatigued but more than that it you know short period of time to be able to get into the game

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: I worry that Dobbin is almost becoming the new Cameron Archer, where and until he does something... that really makes him stand out. he's going to get these little cameos and he looked so he looks so odd on it on pre -season.

Greg: Yeah. I've just... I kind of think for him and Mubama, it's kind of the same problem. I mean, we talked about it a lot at the start of last season, but sometimes you can just...

Greg: try to do too much. Andy and end up not pulling off any of it because you're almost too inside your own head and they just Yeah, I think that... Potentially at the weekend, we see both of them start. and and build some confidence into them from.

Greg: from that because because the rest of the team looked really tired tonight. so Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: Yeah, and that's and that's the thing. And this is why this is why I think people are so worried about depth. And I know there are some positions that, as I pointed out, I'm not really as worried about. People are really worried about right back with only Bree and Rorislav. But also, I think that Zach Abbott has spent more of his professional comfort career playing right back than centre -back, despite him being a centre -back. So we've got coverage there, if needs be. And we've got other players that have played there. it's just It's only if we get a long -term injury that would be a proper worry. but Yeah, I think that with how tired some of the players were, you know there isn't a huge amount of rotation options. I think midfield is quite safe, as I've discussed, especially with... like you know

DailySaintsPod: between all of the players we've got there. But that sort of attacking... front is going to be a struggle which means I don't expect the Dozie to go but I don't expect the Dozie to get as many minutes as he's clearly going to want.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: which is going to add frustration. You've got Dobbin, as you said, needs some confidence. And Mbamah, who needs some confidence, needs to be able to get to that. Mbamah needs to get to the level of Ross Stewart, right?

DailySaintsPod: Where Ross Stewart... would happily play 60 minutes and then larry would come and play 30 and

Greg: Yeah.

Greg: Where you can rotate Mubama and... uh and laryn 60 30 alternating games and both are scoring in the game anyway so it doesn't matter yeah

DailySaintsPod: And still get goals. that' that that's That's the most important to thing about it, right?

Greg: That's people, Paul.

DailySaintsPod: And I'm not really too bothered.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: Again, if Ross didn't want to be here, Ross didn't want to be here. we We discussed it probably earlier than most others because we read that little bit of fine print that basically said that when he went he tried to like cancel the contract extension that we tried to trigger straight away.

Greg: Hmm.

Greg: Yeah. You got to lose, right? Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: yeah which meant that that was kind of a big indicator at that point his head was out of the game right uh unless there was enough money on the table and i don't really know what was going on there but if he doesn't want to be here he doesn't want to be here

Greg: they hence had his lawyers cancelled.

DailySaintsPod: And, you know, all of these potential outgoings, kind of I can understand why people are worried because we don't want to get to January and then rush to bring people in. I feel like we probably will do business in January.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: But remember, this whole window is about trimming the squad. I have no idea why people seem to think we were you know going to replace Shea Charles when his replacement. is is James Wood Prowse, whether we like it or not.

DailySaintsPod: and i'm not actually as bothered about that as i pointed out as i was initially right Taylor Harwood -Bellis is gone. We brought in Zach Abbott, a player of similar sort of rising up.

DailySaintsPod: through you know the youth and and being quite a strong and mature player at a young age and we've also brought in schlotterbeck to help help a like with an ailing stevens and also quasi going A lot of, you know, the wingers that have gone, people like Ben Brods and Diaz were just on the wage bill.

DailySaintsPod: If anything, the biggest problem we still have at the club. especially on the way way, like wage bill is Ramsdale. where a lot of people are kind of outraged that we have promised George Long number two, we've promised Peretz number one, which makes Ramsdale our third choice goalkeeper.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: But at the same time... This was always going to be the case when he went to Newcastle. He was hoping to get bought. He didn't get bought. He's come back. They probably thought that someone would have an offering for him. Right. And they haven't. and that That might have been a miscalculation. But.

DailySaintsPod: It is what it is. And obviously I think that that also potentially could be holding up money for other deals that could be used elsewhere. We are... In our last year of parachute payments, if we do not go up...

DailySaintsPod: there is a big worry that we will deal with financial consequences bigger than what we are used to. They are going to be shrewder.

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: Yes, they need to push the boat out a little bit. I think they have, but there is always going to be, they're going to bank more money than they're going to spend, right? We've always done that. That's not... a surprising thing.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: But like from the performance of today. I can understand why people are worried about depth. But also, I just think that we had a really good game, a really positive game.

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: We've had two days to recover, which isn't a lot of time.

Greg: Let me just... came up against Came up against a team who, at least in my estimations and predictions, are... are potentially promotion rivals. at a ground that is notoriously difficult to go and play at.

Greg: or on a Tuesday night where... you know there hasn't been a a huge amount of rest time or recovery especially with the other stuff happening in the football circles. so Yeah. a point in it it's still a positive mark it's still moving up in the right direction you know well and truly out of negatives on three points.

Greg: just keep keeping the undefeated stuff going.

DailySaintsPod: Yep. What else can we ask for? what What else else can we ask for, right? At the end of the day, yeah, I'd have loved to have won.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: Yeah, but like we had, there was about 20, 30 minute period, which just seemed to be, they went down constantly. You know, they were quite, they they were clearly towards the sort of last 20, 30 minutes were kind of happy to play for the draw, but it was very, very end to end.

DailySaintsPod: We could have easily been two or three down quite early on. We could have easily been two or three nil up.

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: As I've pointed out earlier, it was a very, very balanced game and 1 -1 seems to be the sort of correct scoreline. Like, you know, I'd have loved for us to have won.

Greg: Yeah, it feels fair.

DailySaintsPod: but it feels fair. It's the first time I've ever looked at a draw like this and gone, do you know what? It feels fair. Would have loved for us to pip it towards the end.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: Would have loved James Ward -Prowse to get like a goal from a free kick on his return. But ultimately, you know we we ran out of gas. And. that That's that. And that is, you know...

DailySaintsPod: why the wider conversation around what day it is is such a concern.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: But it doesn't mean that we aren't going to go in positive with a good team performance over the last two games into this weekend, right?

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: And that's what we need to take from it.

Greg: Three games unbeaten now.

DailySaintsPod: We just got. a Especially, you know.

Greg: That number's still coming up.

DailySaintsPod: sort of matters ...at the end of the day and... it would have been... Lovely to have won tonight, but again, I'm not i'm not devastated by the draw. I think it was a it deserved... from both sides right

Greg: Yeah. That's it.

DailySaintsPod: So.

Greg: You can't win them all, especially in this league.

Greg: So happy days is what it is.

DailySaintsPod: Yeah. Uh... I don't think there's anything else to say on the game at least or on the other thing that we usually talk about either.

Greg: Save all that fun for tomorrow mate.

DailySaintsPod: Saints have since tweeted.

Greg: Yeah.

DailySaintsPod: yeah Saints have since tweeted the the bullet header. scored by Schlotterbeck that again absolutely fantastic and you know as I think I pointed out to you Taylor Harwood -Bennis who was I think in all caps to you after I saw that goal that's just me crying behind my mask of tears that he's gone but you know nothing else to indicate that any other business is going to be done I'm sure there's going to be a lot of debate on it.

DailySaintsPod: uh i'm gonna try and stay off twitter at least until tomorrow We're not going to be happy. ultimately a very, very fair point. uh from a tough ground to go to Uh, with a good team performance with Definitely some positives as much as everyone would like to strip out the negatives, right? That's kind of...

DailySaintsPod: I think we're both kind of in agreement there, right?

Greg: Yeah, 100%. Yeah, definitely.

DailySaintsPod: any any Any departing thoughts, Greg, or is that is that it for today?

Greg: and hello That's it it. It feels fair. I'm going to focus on the positives. put all of the negatives down to the fact that the transfer windows close in and just get back to the delusional state of optimism that we like to go into match days with because because that's just my preferred state. you know

DailySaintsPod: We know. yeah yeah The faunal prediction wasn't quite... Wasn't quite what we got on the Tuesday night.

Greg: Not quite. Maybe I've wrecked it.

DailySaintsPod: not Me thinking Laren definitely needed to start. Probably not. the best call either but hey ho we live and learn

Greg: Hmm.

DailySaintsPod: We're not the football managers, so we can't get blamed for it. Thank you very much to everyone for joining us for this late night. chaotic recording where as you can tell our energy levels are waning especially when you have to do two recordings uh so apologies if we repeated ourselves uh but we will be back tomorrow to discuss i guess the window as a whole who knows how long that episode will run for it's been a crazy window and a you know crazy start to the season But we'll be back. We are on Facebook, Twitter. YouTube.

DailySaintsPod: Instagram. TikTok. all of the social media our youtube's really been buzzing recently we really appreciate all of the support we get there all the comments are are really really nice for me and great to read and yeah.

DailySaintsPod: Have a wonderful rest of your day and we'll be back tomorrow with some transfer stuff. And until then. Come on, you saints.
