Jen Cloher is an indigenous Maori living in Australia. She champions the causes of the Aboriginal and native peoples all around the world.

She is one amazing musican and songwriter, channeling her anger, hope, guilt, and strength into bringing awareness to queer rights, inigenous peoples rights, treaties, and holding things sacred, and respect. She is one of the most wonderful people I have ever spoken to in my life.

Her music is nothing short of amazing, inspiring and at times very moving. We talked about the songwriting, her reasons and motivations, and a message of moving forward. She calls out the right ring and racist politicans in Australia, and I realized how aware I really was about Australian politcs. (Really, from articles I read 30 years ago, the issues are still going on). She pulls no punches and gives a beautiful vision of what the world would look like after decolonization.

If you could imagine a female fronted "Velvet Undergeound" clashed with Midnight Oil, that is what you get with Jen Cloher.  Her new album comes out this week "I am the river, the River is Me".
