Vos, Logs, and Motts team up for a packed episode of Calcio Culture as they hand out midseason grades to every top Serie A team and break down all the action from Match Week 21, the European competitions, and the upcoming weekend slate.

The episode kicks off with Champions League highlights, including Atalanta’s 5-goal demolition of Sturm Graz, Juventus’ disappointing draw with Club Brugge, and Bologna shocking Dortmund at home. Meanwhile, in the Europa League, Roma take on AZ Alkmaar, while Lazio hosts Real Sociedad.

From there, it’s all about the domestic drama. The hosts analyze Napoli’s thrilling 3-2 win over Atalanta in Bergamo, Juventus taking control against Milan in a 2-0 victory, and Roma’s dominant display over Genoa. Vos, Logs, and Motts dissect the matches, the goals, and the implications for the table.

But the heart of the episode lies in the midseason grades. Napoli, Inter, Atalanta, and more are put under the microscope, with each team earning a letter grade based on their performance so far. The hosts debate who's exceeding expectations, who’s falling short, and what needs to change in the second half of the season.

They also preview the Match Week 22 fixtures, headlined by Juventus traveling to face Napoli, Atalanta taking on Como, and Fiorentina battling Lazio. The Culpi di Luna segment returns with fresh betting picks to cap off the show.

For all things Serie A, tune in to Calcio Culture and join the conversation on X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube @calcioculturefc. The season's heating up—don’t miss it!

byans Welcome back to another wonderful episode of cultural culture. I am your semi-host today, Logs, and I am here with both of my co-hosts. We have both, and Matz has come out of hiding to join us tonight. Matz, thank you so much for showing up tonight. You're welcome. I graced you guys with my presence. We are back. What happened last week? Nothing happened.
00:00:36
Speaker
yeah Nothing happened. Just disappeared for a couple hours. Vos, how we feeling? Doing good. We had some Cal show today. I'm looking forward to the weekend. A lot of stuff going on. The new year was kind of a scramble for me. I feel like it's been scrambled eggs for a month. But we're back, getting back in the sting of things. Champions League back. Pretty good Champions League day, I would say, for Italian clubs. We're going to talk about that a little bit. We're going to talk about match week 21, match week 22.
00:01:02
Speaker
something a little new today or mid-year a little bit past mid-year mid-season we're going to be giving you guys some grades for some of the top teams in the league we thought that would be a little bit of fun we can kind of take a look back at what's happened here but before we get into that Logues and Monster here so we got to do quick shouts mostly for Logues it's always always always going to start with quick shouts not a lot today we'll keep it short we got a lot to go over but first and foremost a quick quick shout to Caucho Tutti our neighborhood espresso bar that me and Matz have just stumbled upon and let me tell you if there was one place where I'd love to watch more Caucho in New York City, it's Caucho Tutti. Matz, you're on mute. Right in the face tagline. I thought it was past, isn't it Tutto Caucho?
00:01:54
Speaker
Same thing, right? Yeah, that was super fun. awesomejector Good food, good desserts, good coffee, good espresso. I enjoy coffee actually. Really good coffee. Really good desserts. I don't know about too many bars, too many espresso bars that have Peroni on tap. So, you know, I had a couple.
00:02:11
Speaker
But it was was a sad scene for one of us, a great scene for another, but in any case, we'll get into that in just a little bit. I'm going to use today's quick shouts to touch on the fact that that AC Milan continues to show that they have no plan whatsoever at any time at all times with a signing of a 34 year old right back, Kyle Walker, a year and a half contract for him with a one year possible extension and We just thought that we put our name back in the mix for Joe Felix because that just makes a ton of sense. I like the Kyle Walker news for you guys. Is he old? Yes. Is he the player he once was? Probably not. Is he miles better than all your options at right back right now? Yes. I think where you don't really have direction is you want to sell two guys that you bought in the summertime. That's where
00:03:04
Speaker
that no direction, I would say, comes into play. But I think Kyle Walker is a great signing for you guys. Gonna be a contributor, knows how to win, knows the winning culture, and can at least make an impact and definitely will be a starter, a definite starter and in an every game until yeah when he signs. Definitely an upgrade. I think I'm just more heated that we're here in this portion of the season and we're our first big change here.
00:03:32
Speaker
is to buy a right back, who's 34? In any case, we'll take you. One thing I just want to add here, what I don't love about it, it's definitely an upgrade to Monza's points. What I don't love about it is the defense actually isn't terrible to like justify this being the correction. Because in the grand scheme of things, like your top top eight in defense in terms of goals scored against in the league,
00:03:58
Speaker
thank The issue is not being able to beat teams worse than you. And then maybe this will help in the Champions League that I will say there'll be in a much better position to sit deeper and kind of defend counter attacks against better teams. But it'll be interesting. I don't really see this moving the needle all that much on either side of the ball.
00:04:15
Speaker
I kind of disagree. I mean, I think most of their goals, I mean, half their goals were you got beat on the right hand side. Kyle Walker is going to stop getting beat on the, and if he does get beat, he's got the pace to make up for it. Obviously he could be a little lazy now that he's older, but his pace alone will make up for some of that. And I think that that will take away that cross that, because we know Tio's not guarding anyone on the back post, so not beating your right back or not having your right back get beaten to allow the cross is going to allow less goals to then maybe they draw some games or win some games that they've been dropping points. Maybe it teaches tomorrow how to play better, Joe. Be good. That wouldn't be a bad show. Honestly, I mean, the other the other upside to this whole thing is that.
00:05:00
Speaker
If he might, Tamori might finally have a right side partner that can help him out a little bit. He had Kalulu all those years. This might be that one change that gets the job done. I don't know. You're right, Montz. I don't love that we're looking to sell Chucky and we're looking to sell Pavlovich in this window six months after we bought them. And Royale. Well, we can, that guy doesn't need to get sold. We should just cut him. Just let him, let him walk with, uh, with Ballatori. They can walk out the same door, but it is tough to see that our management just doesn't have the ah the forethought for anything these days. What are you going to do? What are you going to do? You know what you're going to do? You're going to drown all your sadness with purchases from Tutu Caucho. Look at these fucking things. Look at these goddamn mugs. That little AC Milan mug. Tutu Caucho's got it going on and obviously I had to get the gumar. A little Viola Fiorentina mug. Look at these fucking things.
00:05:55
Speaker
That place had it going on, bro. It was. They also had scarves. They didn't have the scarves at our location, but they have it at their other location in Queens. Scarves, mugs, great food, great dessert, great calcho. It's a very, very... Good vibe all around. Yeah, it's a good vibe place. I might go back there on Saturday. I was just telling Loaks. I think we might... Mott, are we locking that in? Are we inviting Calcho culture followers to Calcho on Saturday?
00:06:21
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, if anyone's in NYC wants to come to Phi Dye to watch the Juventus Napoli game Saturday at 12, feel free. Me and Logs will be there. We'll be there. Full strength. But with that, that will probably be our shortest quick shout of my entire career. I certainly won't let that happen again, but we do have a lot of Champions League to talk about, even though it was just a regular Tuesday for a Champions League. It did seem like, though,
00:06:49
Speaker
Everyone was watching a little Syria because everyone was like, let's just get red cards full of them today. They were everywhere. I think there was four there were five red cards today. There was a lot of crazy games. I, I didn't watch any of the non Syria games, but it looked insane. Barcelona had a crazy game today. I let it go. Madrid had a crazy game today and ended up winning that one down. the road and But to bring it back to what we're talking about, we're talking about Italian teams.
00:07:14
Speaker
Like Luke said, a lot of them playing today, a lot of people watching them today, red cards. First game we had SK, Sturm, Graz, I don't know who they are, never heard of them, but it's the Champions League. They went to Bergamo at the new stadium, Atalanta brought it to them, 5-0 win, five different goal scorers, if I'm not mistaken, Rotegi scored, CDK scored, Lukman scored, Brescia Neiman scored,
00:07:40
Speaker
And I was, I think Zappa Costa may have scored, I forget who the last one was. Pasalich. Pasalich. So love to see that in the league, they've been a little bit blunt, but like to see all the guys that should be scoring, scoring. And again, Adalanta against teams worse than them in the Champions League tend to get their business done. What is the live line going forward that Vos brings up that Adalanta has a new stadium on each episode?
00:08:04
Speaker
Are we at minus money now? Well, the reason I had to bring it up here is because they were playing their Champions League games at the San Siro for a while because they didn't have enough seating in Bergen. Were they really? Yeah. Oh, we're sharing up there now. A little brotherhood action. Yeah, so that game now has a ton of surprises. Maybe another one has a lot of surprises in Belgium. What was that, Mats?
00:08:29
Speaker
I think that they they qualified or maybe not qualified, but they're in definitely the next round and they have a chance to be in like the top eight to not have to play the playoff with that win. I think there's one more game left and if they do lose, they could potentially fall out of it, but they're in a really, really good spot for qualification for the next round.
00:08:53
Speaker
Yeah, I think, well, I mean, let's just actually take a second here. What I like about Atlanta going into the knockout, regardless of where they finish, if they get to buy or if they have to play in that first round, they're going to be a really hard team to beat over two legs, I think. Because even if you beat them,
00:09:11
Speaker
your goal differential it's going to be tough because they're going to score a ton of goals against you over two legs so if you beat them you kind of need to beat them handedly in the first game. I just think it's going to be interesting and they've always kind of been like this But they're a lot better defensively than than they have. Definitely a lot better defensively. Also, we definitely know that Gasparini system seems to translate better in the Champions League or just Europe in general. Obviously, they won the Europa League last year. They've had a lot of success in Europe under Gasparini, almost making the Champions League final five or six years ago, always going far in this tournament. So we know that this
00:09:51
Speaker
They definitely perform or his system kind of plays better in the Champions League. So I would agree. Like if you're going to want to, if you want to beat them, you're going to have to beat them by a lot because they can come back in the second leg, especially if they're in Bergamo. I mean, we saw what they did against Liverpool in the infield, right? Like so they put three on their head. So, um, Atlanta are just firing on all cylinders and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.
00:10:16
Speaker
I think the other thing that Gasparini has that he I don't think they've ever had is a dominant striker the way for techies been playing because the best they ever had it was probably Duvan Zapata at his peak, Maria Zalich when he was flying. And yeah. But it's even, I mean, even like Rategi obviously, yeah he scores every game he plays, but then they're going to have Skamaka coming back now. Lukman has all the most, I mean, he bought had a hat trick in the Europa League final last year, has the most goal contributions in the Serie A, assistant goals in the last year, CDK.
00:10:54
Speaker
puts in looks like CDK probably assists or scores in every single game. So they got a very, very good attacking front or front three. And the last point I want to make on this, they played Arsenal and they played Real Madrid over two legs. If they had played both those games back, I think they may have gone through. And that's kind of what I'm leaning on. The Real Madrid game, they probably should have gotten a result. Rotegi missed that goal. And then Arsenal, Rotegi missed a PK. And there was a note no game. So just kind of crazy. And I think it's going to be interesting one going forward. But moving on here, Juventus played today. They were in Belgium visiting Club Rouge.
00:11:31
Speaker
kind of same old story here for Juventus continuing to go on nil-nil draw. Yeah, I mean, I will say Club Bruges has kind of an MO of sitting back and being tough to score on. They've only had allowed eight goals, but I mean, if you're U-Bay, you got to do better than what you just did. The first shot on goal was in the 85th minute. It was just another snooze fest. They didn't have They had one other opportunity besides the shot on goal two score and Nico Gonzalez kind of got the ball lost under his feet. But other than those two chances, there were zero other chances or zero threatening chances to score. They definitely played good defensively. They didn't I think they only allowed one shot on target as well. But you guys always kind of played good defensively. So you just need to do better or create more chances. It's just funny that you've decided that the one day
00:12:22
Speaker
in this entire month that they were gonna not have a draw was on Saturday, but in any case, I think it's, we talked about this a little bit, hinted at it maybe, but AC and UVA are not having two different seasons in terms of results, even though the vibes are completely different and they seem to be in two different places right now, but UVA's doing the same thing that I talked about last week that AC Milan just can't get away from. They build a tiny bit of momentum and they go and shit it away. Granted, are they losing games when they when they lose their momentum? No. But you come off a 2-0 draw against AC, you should be flying against Club Bruges. Flying. Especially how well they played, which we'll talk about, but they should have came out today firing at all cylinders and obviously did not happen back to their old ways.
00:13:13
Speaker
I don't disagree with that take there that they're having very similar seasons but like the vibe are very different. We're definitely doing better in the league than Milan obviously but not by much. I think it's just like 37 points is definitely better than 31 points I will agree there. well Yeah you have a game in hand though but I just also think like it helps that we're just not losing so like It's like you guys are still losing games like we just need to figure out so like how to score and then all those draws could potentially be wins. And then we're talking about how you may have is unbeaten in the league and our top of the table if there's a couple bounces that go our way. So I think that might be the the reason why.
00:13:55
Speaker
We're looked at a little differently than Milan, even though our so seasons are so similar. But at the end of the day, you are right. Like, they're not wins, they're draws. And if you were to tell any UVA fan at the beginning of the season, your 21 games unbeaten in the league, I'm sure that they all would have been like, oh, then we are so far away at the top of the table. And they're sitting in fifth place right now. So it's not definitely not good. But we're right there. It's just a few things got to get ironed out.
00:14:22
Speaker
And just to wrap up before we move on, on kind of where we get that vibe, like the vibe is different, like Loag said, the emotion's different. What it ultimately comes down to for me is, UVA is doing one thing exceptionally well, and that's not losing games, and Milan is doing nothing exceptionally well. And game in and game out, they're different. Every game, they're different. UVA is very consistently okay.
00:14:46
Speaker
I would say, right? Like that they're not exceptional. They've just been phenomenal at defending and not losing. And Milan haven't done anything exceptional the entire season, apart from full of such playing well. And Raphael layout occasionally playing well is what I would say. It's just, yeah, it's it's all individual performances if AC does well, but that's been, that's kind of been our storyline for years, but I do agree. I mean, it it is, it is fully a team effort on the U base half. It's,
00:15:14
Speaker
They're just missing that one final step. That's it. Some more positive news. In Bologna, they hosted Dortmund, a team that we had been really dogging in the Champions League. Went down 1-0 early in this game, battled back to win 2-1. They're still on the outside looking in in terms of qualification. They're on five points. The last team qualifying right now is on eight points. I'm not sure they're going to be able to get this done. Citi is the team that's in last in that last spot right now.
00:15:41
Speaker
But I think it'll this probably sums up where they're at as a club. Started really slowly under Talliano, had slowly been ramping up, winning home games. Coming back, I would i mean, coming back event doormant against Dorman a month ago, two months ago, wouldn't even consider them doing that. And now they're in a position where they are doing it, they're challenging in the league.
00:16:02
Speaker
I'm not, I still don't think it would really benefit them to get into the knockout. Even at this point, they're playing so well in the league and they're not going to win it that it it you're still shooting for it, right? But I don't think it would hurt them. This is just a result to build on for me.
00:16:17
Speaker
If I'm a Bologna fan, and I'm not sure that this surprises anybody considering my takes. please i use know which youre gonna say club Get the fuck out of there. You do not want to be in this competition. Yes, it would be a great feat for them to make it at this point. And I think that it's it would be fitting for them to make it given the momentum in the, in the form that they're in. But Oh my god, just focus all your energy on Serie A. You're in a great spot in seventh. You're tied for sixth. Fiorentina has been falling out of their graces. They can't win any games, aside from AC, which is not a surprise. If I'm a Bologna fan, if I'm Bologna, if I'm Italiano, just just pause. just Just take a breather. Play your U17s for the final couple Champions League games, and just come out and play really, really, really, really, really well in Serie A, which you have already been doing.
00:17:09
Speaker
I don't think they need to punt it. There's only one game left in Tivosa's point. Like you look at the teams there, you got PSG that's not in and it's ahead of them. Manchester City barely in Madrid barely in ahead of them. So like, I don't think you need to punt it. You can go for the win, still not get in, kind of have a better vibe but of the how you did in the Champions League. Cause you won a game. Hopefully you can win two games. You didn't make it because some of the better teams had kind of crappy performances like Madrid, PSG and City. So you could tell yourself like, oh, we were close, but we didn't get it. And then you have a good vibe and then you still have the league to to fall back on if you don't qualify for the Champions League. So I think you go for it. You go for it. You probably don't get it anyways, but you still go for it and then you focus on League.
00:18:00
Speaker
I don't hate that Shoutmont. We still get to the same place that we want that Blue and I want to get to. I agree with the vibe check. You got to make sure the vibe checkers check because that'll that'll take you down. That'll be an anchor in the season. Montz is playing chess out here. everybody else which also I just wrote, I know we'll we'll probably talk about Bologna in a little bit, but I just wanted to give Italiano a quick shout. Has more points right now in this point in the season than Thiago Amada did last season it for Bologna. That is a great stat. That's a phenomenal stat, actually.
00:18:36
Speaker
This is anotherusive of champions leaguers that just Syria. Just Syria. I mean, sir but Mata wasn't playing champions, which goes to show how good Italiano was doing. He's had an extra competition to manage as well. This is a little bit of a random tangent, but it just echoes on a point that I've been trying to make all year.
00:18:56
Speaker
This is another guy that Roma could have hired, right? Like that he was available and probably would have taken the Roma job over the Bologna job if it was presented to him. And I don't even think he was on their radar. That's a good point, but I don't know if he does because he wanted that Champions League. I know that Roma is a step up from Fiorentina and they're in the Europa League rather than the conference league. So he but he might take it, but I know that he wanted Champions League ball.
00:19:22
Speaker
But I do agree, I would, if it was me and I was in the situation and I had Roma or Bologna, I would, oh my goodness, pick Roma. Roma also wasn't in the market for a manager this summer. Let's not forget that. Yeah, but that were they down five game a the the beginning of the year was... No, that was your debate, which was a crazy debate. nope No one, we talked, we already covered this a million times. De Rossi was the guy and they should have never fired him. I'll stand by it.
00:19:48
Speaker
Well, not to go on a tangent and get off topic, but did you guys see who Roma's been linked to for the summer? He's a Rossi? No, it's not. It's Ancelotti. Carlo Ancelotti. There's no way. No shot. There's no shot that can stop him. Why not? He's definitely out on the Madrid job. I mean, unless he gets an international job somewhere. I thought he was linked to Brazil. He is linked to Brazil too, yeah. And he's still linked to staying on Madrid.
00:20:17
Speaker
shabulans is kind let's keep out all ah The other Champions League games we have haven't happened yet. We got Inter Milan going to Sparta, Braha. Don't know where that one is either. Inter just going to get it done, I guess. And then we got Yerona coming to Milan to play AC.
00:20:34
Speaker
Not an easy game for AC, but when we're still in the early days of Contrasau, it's kind of, what are we going to get? How's he going to approach these Champions League games? It's going to be interesting because I would, like we talked about last week, Logues, Contrasau was probably more of a Champions League manager than Fonseca ever was. And Fonseca did have some success in this competition this year. So maybe this is a team that's built for this that didn't quite have the perfect manager for it. And now maybe they do.
00:21:03
Speaker
Well, it's it's funny that we said this almost verbatim last week. the eurona this minute and This made me feel really good about our chances tomorrow. The Urona manager came out and said having Konstant Sao at the helm makes gives this AC Milan team the chance to win any single game. Any game.
00:21:20
Speaker
one I don't want to hear that out of my out of my manager saying that about my opposing team but two I mean the e spot on this guy I feel like what can put the UVA game so far behind him so fast and just focus on this one-year own a game especially given the fact that That was probably the one bright spot from Fonseca. And if Konstantzow has any chance of leaving a positive mark here, he has to at least outperform Fonseca from that perspective. So I think that Konstantzow is probably pumped up for this game. he He was a pure performer from a manager perspective at Porto. And so I do i think that this is going to be a 2-0 game alone.
00:22:00
Speaker
I'm looking at these numbers here, and I had no idea. You guys are having a really good Champions League campaign. You guys win this game, you shoot up the table to fourth with 15 points. So knowing who Consez-Sao is, I think he's gonna get the boys fired up, get a win here, and then you I think you guys will punch your ticket into the next round.
00:22:22
Speaker
uh with that win maybe not i think maybe not to the bye but definitely to the to the playoffs for sure which i think he totally gets done i also wasn't on last episode just want to give my really quick two cents and move on love this hire from milan i said from the beginning i didn't like the fronseca one didn't really understand it this guy knows how to win He's gonna also make give an attitude adjustment to the Milan team. You saw in both games that he's lost, he kept the players out there and he's screaming at them because Milan just have a bunch of guys that just are super relaxed on the pitch and you can't have that. So I really, really like this hire and think he will do good things at Milan.
00:23:01
Speaker
Cool. Keep it rolling. One other European competition. Fiorentina is not playing in the conference league, so we do have Europa League. We have Roma taking a visit to Alkmaar, who I believe is in the Netherlands.
00:23:13
Speaker
They have lots who have a tough game. They're hosting Real Sociedad at home. So that's going to be a really interesting one. Tough battle for Barone. I like that he's having to play these kind of bigger teams. They went to Ajax earlier in in this campaign. Now they're hosting Sociedad. These are the games that you need to have as a club to kind of get that shift into being a bigger club, being a bigger force in Europe, is playing these bigger teams that are going to be uncomfortable games who are going to try to bring it to you and play in a different way.
00:23:43
Speaker
they They've but been up to snuff in every game this year. They're number one in the Europa League right now. Roma is in 14th. Roma's not quite out of it. They're kind of teetering on could be out. Lazio looking great though, and I love that this one's happening. I'll start with this Sociedad game. You're 100% correct. This is certainly a game that Lazio needs to get involved in. I think so and it's kind of it's kind of a perfect example. Sociedad has been doing this for years.
00:24:12
Speaker
I feel like Dan and, in um, and, uh, yeah, exactly. Like those teams from La Liga have been doing it for years. And that's why they've kind of solidified themselves in these competitions. Lots has been in and out. And when they're in, they've never been dominant. And given their performances this year in the form that they're in, I don't see any reason that they shouldn't roll here, especially being at home in the cafeteria. But, uh, Roma had out Mars, not an easy win. That's certainly not, I mean,
00:24:41
Speaker
Alkmar is a good team and a couple of fun fun history facts for you. Two absolute studs that came out of Alkmar. Who knows them? Tweet at me. Who knows them? I think you're saying Coke soup did not play there. I don't know. coe Tune Coop Miners and Tijani Reinders, both Alkmar products. Wow, I didn't know that. This team knows how to bring players up and this team knows how to play. So don't be surprised when Alkmar wins this game 3-0 because Roma still doesn't know how to figure it out.
00:25:10
Speaker
They have been figuring out a little bit though. So we'll see what happens. I don't really have much to add. Wanted to kind of move on to the next subject. However, I do have one thing to add. Fiorentina will probably play Chelsea in the conference league final. I haven't said that in a little bit. And we did talk on it briefly. So I wanted to say that. Although Fiorentina, we're talking about Fiorentina at the time. Kicking it on, at the weekend, we had match week 21. Two really big games. The first one, battle of the top three, Napoli at Atalanta, very important game.
00:25:39
Speaker
Napoli did manage to pull this one out, three to two, very much kind of what Conte wants to get done, and Adelanta not quite getting there. Still kind of figure out how you win a league. This was another example of Adelanta could get it done, had the opportunities to do it, didn't quite put them away, and on the flip side of things, Napoli three shots on target, three goals.
00:26:02
Speaker
at lolanta target I was just going to say Adalanta stumbling a little bit earlier than anticipated, but I'll throw it over to you, Logs. No, I think, I think Adalanta can kind of walk away with this being okay. Three shots, three goals is really bad from a, a, a kind of second who's been playing really well. Um, but from the Napoli side, I think you come out of this fucking going to the bar, drinking beers all night long, celebrating for the whole rest of the week.
00:26:32
Speaker
I mean, the, the game after you lose your best player into the market, you coming in to a team that fucking mashed you in the first round, the first round of the series in the season, and you come out with a three, two win. I mean, what more could you ask for?
00:26:47
Speaker
No, I agree. that That's a really good point. And that is probably the story from this, right? If this goes poorly and they lose this game, like four nothing, or are they something like that? Like what happened in the first game, what you're referring to there, things could spiral from there and everybody could lose confidence. Oh, we can't, we can't win without Kavada, all these things. You go three, two, maybe top three hardest places to play in the, in the league, maybe at Bergamo, taken into Atlanta. Massive result, absolutely massive and still no Bongiorno.
00:27:18
Speaker
Yeah, I think I think the being app on joint or Bergamo makes us huge for Napoli and and even bigger for Atalanta because they need to keep pace with those two and losing points at home. You can't do if you want to want to screw that though. And three goals without Kavata the game after is obviously great for Napoli in terms of they show like we could still score goals.
00:27:40
Speaker
Is it sustainable? I don't know. They're really going to need Lukaku to score a lot and they're really going to need Scott McTomany to continue scoring the way he's been doing. I think they need to bring somebody in to replace the offense that Kavada gave them or else they could start stumbling as well. Matt, you weren't you weren't on the one for our discussion last week. So who do you think Napoli need to bring in? Give like the their top two priorities. If you could buy anybody, who are you buying?
00:28:10
Speaker
I would get either Rashford, I know he's not the player he once was and he he has streaks, but he can play. I mean, he's definitely, like, we know what he's ah capable of doing. I would not get Gurnacho because I mean, his attitude problem, he's probably, I just don't think he's going to fit well. The person that I want to see Napoli buy because they're my Gumar and I really liked this player and I would like to watch him in the Serie A is Zagroba from, uh,
00:28:37
Speaker
Where's Leon, not Leona, Lil. Lil. That's a really good show. I love him. I think about that. The only difference is he plays off the right. So ah he would replace him on the right hand side. But I think Polly Tano is like coming to the end. And David Nares has showed he can play on that left. He played a great game. That was going to be what I want to talk about. He had a phenomenal game and on defensively, too. He was all over the field and it made a big difference.
00:29:04
Speaker
There's also a guy, I think, yeah, David Neres has showed that he could play on the left. There's also a guy that you can get pretty cheap from Leon because they got relegated. I'm trying to think of his name. He's got like a $20 million dollars release clause right now. It's like Chelic, I think, or...
00:29:25
Speaker
I can't remember. Yeah, maybe he's French, he's french but he it changed his nationality. You could get him as well. He could play off the left, he could play off the right, and he could play in the middle, kind of like Cavata could do it all as well. I would rather see Zagrova, because I like Zagrova more in modern Mount Napoli. But there's options out there that are better than Granaccio and Rashford. But if you're going to go with one of those two, I would go with Rashford over Granaccio.
00:29:48
Speaker
but they need to get somebody. If they don't get somebody, I really think even though they're on one game a week, I really think they start to stumble because there were games where Kavata just won them the game because of his pure class. And we know Lukaku isn't the same player as he once was. Like he's not getting 30 goals. And yes, Scott McTominay is scoring goals, but is it going to continue? I actually don't. That Ryan Shirky show is actually a really good one. I think this guy used to be linked to Real Madrid when Zadon was there, obviously, a couple years ago, but... Or no, I'm sorry. He was linked to Real when they were trying to bring in Zadon, because Zadon was like, I'm only coming back if you sign this guy, which is a crazy thing to say, but in any case, I actually think that's a great shout. The only thing I'll say is, do do you bring in a guy like Rashford who can get him behind and is going to just be going straight for the goal? Or do you get a guy that's more creative and kind of holds the game up and can facilitate? Because the problem is, Kvara Skedlya did both.
00:30:46
Speaker
and did both phenomenally well. And so that was that's been my biggest thing. If I'm a Napoli, if I'm De Laurentiis, who do I go after? Because the person you're finding in this window cannot do both.
00:30:57
Speaker
I would just say what the way I would hope Napoli are approaching this is you're not replacing him. You're finding somebody that can do something that he did well as like a compliment to what you have, because you're not going to replace him, period. So it's what do we have in David? This is what I would assume they're looking at is what can David Neres do well? What does Polotano still do well? What can we get to compliment those two guys? Is my guess And that's what we talked about with Pellegrini. He does the not final third stuff as well as Cavata, but he does like that attacking midfielder kind of role that he can do. And then it's finding maybe one more guy that can play off the right and the left.
00:31:38
Speaker
It's a very difficult problem. And I still don't think there's a lot of great options out there that they can get. I also, I generally don't think that Pellegrini to Napa has any concrete to it. I don't think he would move there. I don't, I just don't see that happening, but maybe I'm wrong. But I really think one of those two guys that I shouted would be really good. I just don't know if they'll get it done. So we'll see. guess land perspective on this game. Then guys got to write the ship here at some point, right?
00:32:05
Speaker
It's funny, though, because they like they're still like now it's back to their defense. like They scored the goal two goals. they They came back on Napoli. So it was on their defense for the most part. I mean, Rotegi and Lookman, CDK, are flying so high. like They're playing so well. Sommercich, every time he comes in, balls out. Edison is one of the best midfielders in the league. So yeah, it's bad that you drop points at home.
00:32:30
Speaker
but just kind of have a short memory you're playing so like continue doing what you're doing because you're playing so well you just gotta not lose this game. I don't know it's tough to say but they're playing so well. What's what's tough about this one it's on the back of them drawing three games right like if that hadn't happened you look at this game they probably could have tied they could have won like it could have gone either way it's just that we're in a spell now of four games dropping points which Napoli and Inter realistically aren't going to go four games in a row dropping points. You wouldn't expect that from them. And that's what Gasparini's problem has always been. Like you, you aren't quite at the form that's capable of winning titles. And maybe, maybe this, I'm reading too much into this, but there's seven points off of Napoli right now. And it's kind of a lot for what Conte is trying to do. I don't think Atalanta is in the race. i' I'm going to call it a two horse race at this point, but
00:33:23
Speaker
What I will say is I'm not going to fall at Atlanta at all for this game, to be honest. When you look at how they played, it's almost exactly as they played the first game. They just didn't, they just didn't come out on top and a lot of these chances and Napoli converted on, on every single one of their chances. They played in a very, very high line, a very aggressive high line, which they usually do. But if you get beat, you know, and you have some individual performances like they have.
00:33:47
Speaker
you know That's going to happen. That's that's the mouse trap that you play when you're Gasparini and it's worked out in the past. That's what beat Leverkusen in their undefeated season. That's what beat Napoli the first time around. So for them, at least you can you can't fault them for being consistent and sticking to something that had been working. Unfortunately, sometimes you're just going to get countered and it's not going to work.
00:34:06
Speaker
You're right. The other big game that happened, we just talked about it a little bit. Milan at UVA, UVA finally winning a game at home, two to nothing, kind of broadens Milan a little bit. We talked about this, we talked about the two teams a little bit already. What are the direct takeaways from this game? Because we got to take out the whole season looking, comparing them. This game, what happened, what's wrong here with Milan? What did UVA do well, finally months?
00:34:32
Speaker
Well, I think what they did well was for the first time, they didn't really try to possess it so much in their own half. A lot of the possession was in Milan's half. So they were dominating the game for the most part, but I don't think there's, I mean, was there a lot of positives to take away from Juventus' game? I thought there was going to be, but then based on today's game, like to Loeg's point, nothing really translated to the next game.
00:35:01
Speaker
So I really, I mean, you just got to do that more. He definitely used coop miners in a better, in a better position. So that's something to take away. Could maybe it stop using coop miners so much as a 10 and move him back as an eight. You got to continue to play in Bangala off the left.
00:35:17
Speaker
and Yildiz and Kunze Sal on the right. I think i also think Nico Gonzalez is just a way better number nine than Dusan because he can he can have those flicks and that that link up play that Dusan can't. Nico Gonzalez had a fantastic ball to M. Vangoula that led to a goal that I don't know if Laovich can play. So those are just some takeaways, but it' I thought that this game was going to be a much more momentum building game for Juventus because of how they played.
00:35:44
Speaker
but it really wasn't because the next game they went right back into what they've been doing all season. um the koot miners piece do you him playing well in this game getting into better positions you read that as ti yogaga mata porting him in a different position or <unk> gonzalez can do some of the things that dusan can't so kind of frees up kube miners to go do something else I think it frees him up because Nikko plays more as a false nine. So he's he's occupying a lot more of that 10 space then ah than Blavich does when he's in, because he's playing as an out and out number nine. So Koop Miners needs to occupy that space. But when Nikko's there, it allows Koop Miners to go out and in the midfield, play a little bit wider, play some but some dangerous balls in, and just be more of the role that he was playing at Atlanta.
00:36:32
Speaker
ah because Atalanta had him in that 8 and he would just get forward a lot more. So I think that is what is but so beneficial to when Niko Gonzales plays, which I think will continue with the new edition of Kolo Moani as well, because we know that he's much better with his feet as well than Dusan. So when he plays, I expect to see that as well. Because I think this was Koop Miners' best game as a uventini. So I hope it continues.
00:37:01
Speaker
My biggest takeaway through and through is that Ambunga, Bangula needs to play. I mean, the guy's phenomenal. He's an absolute game changer. Something I like to look at and shout out sofa score for having these stats, but just average positioning from each each player. If you look at sofa score in this game, Ambungula is so far up the pitch on average and maybe notably it's because Emerson Royale just doesn't know. he He might as well not be on the pitch. So he just had freedom to move where he or wanted to.
00:37:30
Speaker
But to have that much confidence, to push that far forward from a guy like that, I think is huge for Juventus. Especially given you look at Nico Gonzalez, who can play in the in the off spaces next to a Coupe Miners, who's not going to be a true 9, but he's gonna he's going to push up a little bit. So you have those guys working off each other. You need someone to hold that line. Amungu is happy to do so. I'll i will look at it a little bit of a discount for AC. Fofana played horribly.
00:37:58
Speaker
which is becoming a storyline that when he plays really bad, the whole team has no nothing going for them. So is it a takeaway that he's just been a huge puzzle piece for us? Sure. Guy needs to shape up, though. It's been a couple of games now that he's he's put in performances and had absolute pizzas that led to goals. um The other thing is that You know, it's tough when you're you're down 2-0 and your first sub off the bench is 17-year-old Camarda. We just talked about it last week. that's not ah That's not a recipe for success. That guy's not ready for that scene yet. We needed somebody to come off the bench and Marato was suspended and Tammy was hurt. Or Tammy was already out there, but then he eventually got hurt, so then Jovic is in.
00:38:37
Speaker
So do we have, no, do we have enough depth on the bench? Absolutely not. Um, a couple of key players still out. And so, uh, it was a tough thing. It was tough to watch it for a while there, especially watching UVA, Juventus play earlier this season to see UVA handle the ball for so long in the final third was something I was very, very surprised about, but we let them.
00:39:00
Speaker
I mean, that, that's the whole thing. We, we just let them have the ball in our, in our half the whole game. And you're not good. you You can't do anything with that, especially with the lack of firepower that we have up front when layout's not on, when Tammy's not on, we had you, you had Musa who's really just a center middle room was right back playing right wing. So.
00:39:18
Speaker
It was kind of a recipe for disaster and we we certainly fell into that hole. You also very much let Juventus possess it in your half because I've never seen a team like Juventus just like allow a team to dictate where they pass the ball. If you press Juventus even a little bit, they will immediately start going backwards and just like passing it where you are allowing them to. And then they end up in their half and they try to play out from the back and it will make them implode a lot of times. And so the fact that it was on you guys didn't have high enough press or weren't pressing enough to allow us or to not allow us to possess it in your in your half. I also think that Locatelli every time he gets the ball, he makes one specific pass. And I pointed out to Logan and he looks for a 40 yard pass to switch the field. And that continually worked time and time again to Western McKinney specifically. So Tio wasn't guarding
00:40:13
Speaker
him tight enough to allow that to happen. So we move, we were able to move the ball 40 yards in one pass a lot of the time, which you can't do because that was allowing us to possess it so deep in your half, which one more thing I'll add. I just want to give a shout out to Weston McKinney. He deservedly. So once again, in the summer, it's the same story every single year with him.
00:40:34
Speaker
The event just want to kick him out. They try to kick him out. No team. they They kind of overvalue him. No team wants him. And then he starts off on the bench and every single year under whoever, whatever manager it is, he works his way and is a starting. a like and He works his way to have a starting spot every single year. And it's this year he's played left back. He's played right back.
00:40:55
Speaker
He's played center mid. He's played number 10. He's played the right wing. He's played a little bit of left wing. He plays everywhere. He's one of our best players. He had the most assists last year. He's always creating. He's defending. He is a very, very, very good rotational player who I think has finally or Juventus should finally say we don't want no longer want to potentially get rid of him and sell him for more money to make a profit. We're going to keep him because He's sacrifices for the team. He plays other positions. He creates, does it all. So he's a great player, a great rotational player. And I want to give him a shout out. He's a problem solver for Matzah and for Allegra, the same thing. Like we, he literally just, bought we need somebody get in there. Yeah. Well, more than a problem solver, I think it was a tactical genius on Matzah's end and great execution from McKinney, because every time Locatello got that ball and typically it was a little bit left sided, almost in the back line.
00:41:50
Speaker
McKinney was wide open because we were you guys were overloading Teo with no help from Liao. Reinders isn't really going to overload that side, and Tamori doesn't have the defensive discipline to help him out. So every single time, McKinney's wide open on the touchline, completely switched the field, open up all the passing lanes. You have Koopmeiners sliding over for an open pass, or an Nico running in behind Teo, and again, Tamori's asleep. so I mean, it was it was tactical genius. It was great execution by McKinney. I know that you've been even saying you want to see beans out there. You want to see visually, but Locatelli played a perfect game that game. I will say that.
00:42:26
Speaker
so He didn't. He played well that game. i and And I think Beans has been struggling to get in and seeing him at Douglas Louise because yeah we just spent 60 million on Koop Miner, so he's going to play every game. Kefran Taram, Vos, you said it last episode, he's been probably our best and most consistent player, other than maybe Conse São.
00:42:44
Speaker
um And then but in the midfield specifically so he's definitely not gonna be taken out and then I think there's are just a trust factor a little bit more of what's Locatelli than for Jolie for Tiago Mata, but I would like to see a little bit more of for Jolie and Douglas Louise I Think that mean most unless you have anything else to say I think that wraps it up there. I mean again tactical genius great execution the whole team played extremely well and AC almost looked like they were scared to make mistakes. They, they were, nobody played well. There was not a single notable performance from AC. So my young said made some good saves as he does. yeah I mean, but you you kind of get used to it. I mean, he's just, that's, except he didn't do that against Caliari. So it's a little bit of a weird situation, but.
00:43:30
Speaker
goes Let's move it on, but I just want to say one thing we talked about it for one minute it doesn't need to be quick because the sample size is very small. Direct correlation to Fafana's bad performances is Benisair coming into the midfield. And that's a really different archetype of a player than who's been playing alongside him, whether it be Loftus Cheek, whether it be Eunice Musa. Benisair does not cover a lot of ground. He's more of a slow,
00:43:53
Speaker
build, walk around the pitch, progress the ball. And the balance of the midfield is kind of not, it's been the third, that third guy all year, who is it supposed to be? Nobody really knows yet. I don't think Milan know. I don't think Milan have the third player yet, to be honest with you. So that's just something to watch. And Venezuela is really struggling to get back into the team in an effective way, especially with how they've been playing. He's more of a ball dominant player.
00:44:19
Speaker
And this new look Milan is not ball dominant team really for the most part. and And that's exactly why we're going after two sixes right as we speak for next summer. I mean, Samuel Ricci is in our, our headlines every single day. And, uh, new guy, I think he plays for Porto. Maybe it's IX. Varela, uh, Argentinian is also now in the mix to breathe, brought in as another holding midfielder. So you're completely right. It, but it is a, that has been a conscious, conscious effort by Konstan Sow.
00:44:47
Speaker
to go to a three-man midfield as opposed to playing a cam with the two holding? I have a question and a statement. So I'll do the statement first. Ricci is going to be so hard for you to get, especially knowing that City, so many teams won. They're going to try to sell him for like, and he just signed a contract as well with Torino. So they got him locked into, I think like 2029. So they're going to sell him for so much. I don't think you guys have that money. My other question, isn't Fafana, he's been playing as a six, no?
00:45:16
Speaker
Is it not a six six, like, and also isn't, isn't Ben is Sarah the Pacer as well. So that's kind of, so this is, this is really the issue. It's Fofana is a.
00:45:29
Speaker
destroyer kind of thing. That's what I think of him, right? Like his passing has been has been good this year, but he's closer to like a Kefran Taram, but less of a carrier on the ball, right? Like he'll get around, destroy things, run around the field, and then randomly like he'll spurt forward and get forward, but he's not really your playmaker. And then Ben Nasser is kind of the other side of the spectrum where he's kind of a walk around the field, get the ball, distribute it, not really a ball carrier, good at defending and that he knows his positioning well, but isn't a physical threat. that And that's what I would say the difference is. And when we talk about like Ricci as kind of like the third archetype amongst these three,
00:46:10
Speaker
he's kind of somewhere in the middle, right? Like pretty athletic, really good range of passing. Position on the field is probably the deeper, deeper than Fofana and probably even deeper than Ben Oster, I would say, for where he wants to be. I mean, the the thing with Ben Oster is he thrives on the ball and we haven't been violent dominant at all since we've had him back. He's also probably lost a step with the injuries and the amount of time he's been out. But at the end of the day,
00:46:35
Speaker
And we'll move on with this thought. The one guy that would be perfect against Fofana, because Fofana is very, very similar to a guy named Bruno Gomes, is Sandro Tonali. Yeah, no, I, 100%, double pivot. Fofana is a double pivot guy. That's what I would describe him as, and Tonali would be ah a perfect, perfect guy. But with that being said, there was a lot of other games going on, so we can rattle those off real quick here.
00:46:59
Speaker
All right, first one in Rome, Genoa went to Roma, lost this one three to one. I just want to shout out Stephen El-Shirawi, maybe most underappreciated player of the year in Serie A. He's been a bright spot on that Roma team. Yeah, go ahead, Mas. I also think Dovbic starting to figure it out a little bit. starting Starting to string together a couple of goals, a couple of flicks, a couple of good playing. He is starting to string it together a little bit.
00:47:24
Speaker
Don't sleep, don't sleep. I'm not sold. I'm not sold. He's getting some more goals, but some PKs and they're not great goals. So I'm not sold yet. Monza went to Bologna. Bologna won this one three to one, continuing some good form in the league now. Kind of more so Italiano ball at its finest. We're getting closer to that product. Torino went to Fiorentina. Fiorentina once again dropping points here one to one. Paladino, little bit of a spiral. We mentioned it last week. They kind of got to write the ship there.
00:47:51
Speaker
It's got to get figured out soon, because it's been not good for quite a bit of time now. Lecce went to Calgary, lost the game four to one. Kind of a surprising result for me. Lecce has been a pretty hard opponent for most teams, and Calgary has struggled to score goals most of the time. That's an interesting one. Lazio went to Verona, kind of a punching bag all year. What they do, they get this one done three to nothing, hold in fourth place, looking really good for Veroni right now.
00:48:19
Speaker
Emply went to enter, nothing, nothing new here. Enter one, three to one. Maybe we' would have liked to see a clean sheet, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. But then at the lake, Como used it an essay as a punching bag. Won this one four to one. Nikko paused and netted one too, which was nice to see. I told you guys, a little lads of the lake are hot right now. Hot steam coming off the lake up there. I've been on Como as well. That's right. You're my boy, Montz, that's why. There are three points clear in relegation. Let's not get carried away. They're here to stay. They're here to stay. All right. Well, we're out to match week 21. Then like we said earlier, we just want a new, new little segment. We're going to be grading the first half of the seasons for some teams. I'm going to let we go on the school. Yeah. Your school teachers. That's a little scary to think about, but they're going to be doing the grading. We're doing top.
00:49:09
Speaker
a top nine we're doing top nine we're going to go in order of the league they're just going to give their opinions we're going to do a little bit of talking and we're going to start with league leaders Napoli 50 points right now number one of the league three points clear at enter who do have a game in hand we'll start with you lux what do you got here a plus i mean it's there's no other way to put it I do think that the ah the second trimester here is going to be a tough one for them. And I can see that grade certainly dropping. But I mean, coming off of what they were before and what our expectations were for the season, aside from Reno over there. I mean, this is an A plus effort. Everyone's firing at all cylinder cylinders. Conte's return to Syria has been immaculate. And I don't, I don't know how you are 50 points into the league now. Three points clear of of inter game in hand, obviously, but A plus is the only way to go here.
00:50:05
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, this is obviously my Kumar. I called this, uh, don't want to jinx it. So we'll knock on some wood. Hopefully they continue this form. As log said, I think it would be much tougher selling the best player in the league and obviously their best player. And especially if they don't replace him, but in the first half of the season, Conte has done an A plus job, least amount of goals allowed in the league with 14. Um,
00:50:29
Speaker
But they still scoring goals with 35. That's a classic Conte team. Not going to kill you with goals, but are going to be able to defend an A plus. And I hope it continues. I agree. yeah I think the problem for Napoli is that they did good on the midterm with the finals cumulative. God, I got to bring it all the way, all the way to the end. ifda Oh, dude, you were thinking about that for so long. I did. I did. second place like We have another team that's been playing, I would say great at this point.
00:50:56
Speaker
and have really turned it on every step of the season have continued to get better. And that's an interval on, again, we said second place game in hand, three points behind. Theoretically, if they won that game, they'd be even with Napoli. What do we got here? I say a minus. I say a minus only because they should be top of the table. They had that little bit of a slow start, a couple of hiccups there.
00:51:19
Speaker
But I would, I guess one thing I will actually give them a solid, like a solid a minus four, actually even, I think what's really bringing them down maybe to, I would give them a B in this department. I think their player management has been a little off because I don't know if they're developing the right guys or using them in the right way. We've touched on that before. So from a, from a sub sub subject of how they're doing, I give them a B in that area, but overall a minus, I mean, this is exactly.
00:51:46
Speaker
If not one, this is where we expected them to be at this point in the season. So not really a huge surprise for my end. I would, I like those points a lot, Logues, though, especially the man managers, right? They, they, for the most part, run without the same 11. I know it's tough to play Barela and Fertesi at the same time, but I think at some point you got to understand Mikitarian is old and he's not going to be around for that long. And you need to like kind of groom Fertesi or make him understand the role in that spot. Cause you bought him to kind of take that torch from him and they haven't done a very good job of that at all.
00:52:22
Speaker
But overall, I mean, they're obviously having a great season. They definitely had some hiccups in the beginning of the season, and allowing a lot of 80th minute goals. But they they are obviously the most goals in the league. They have like the second, I think, least amount of goals allowed, or maybe the third with 18. So a 43. The highest goal differential with 33. But I do agree. I'm going to give them an A minus because they should be first. Nobody thought Napoli was going to be in first. I know that they do have the game in hand, but the game in hand is against.

a not very easy team to play and in Fiorentina. So that's not a gimme. They're going to get the three points and be tied. And I do think that at this point in the season, they were expected to be in first by a couple of points at least having an 18 point gap last year. So I can't give them an A, but I can't give them lower than an A minus because they're obviously having a great year.
00:53:13
Speaker
I like the points. What's interesting here is Inter's outlook on the rest of the season, I would guess, or in my opinion, is much better than Napoli's, right? Like Napoli just lost their best player. Inter is literally still getting better. Like you said, Amat's most goals scored, third least conceded, best goal differential, three points off the league, lead, game and end.
00:53:36
Speaker
that kind of perfect for where you are. Yes, but Inter need to go far in the Champions League as well. If you were asking Intertran or anyone with an Inter, they probably want Champions League final minimum Champions League win probably. So having both those competitions managing, and then they're still in the Copa Italia. So they're going to have multiple ah competitions to manage where Napoli lost the Copa Italia doesn't have any European football. So yes, in terms of a player standpoint, obviously enters probably in a better position, but in terms of a game standpoint, we have content on one game a week and enters on three games a week. Very correct. One game a week. You've been preaching it. Absolutely preaching it. I'm moving on.
00:54:20
Speaker
Third place right now. We talked about them for a little bit at Atlanta. They are seven points off the off the off the league lead. One win in the last five games, three draws and a loss logs. What do you get? What do you got him here? Sitting down great in the paper. I guess i I needed to start this whole thing off with at least the way I'm approaching these grades is based on what I expected from the beginning of the season to now. And so with that being said, I mean, it's an A plus.
00:54:50
Speaker
They've been a phenomenal squad. They've brought in a ton of players and allowed them to mesh in a way that I didn't think they would. They've had a bunch of players have breakout seasons. Rategi, CDK, and ah Ederson.
00:55:07
Speaker
you know for I know that he was a huge player last year, but... Messhing with the new players. Losing tune is ah is a huge loss for him. you know if Their defense had been pretty good.
00:55:18
Speaker
a couple of ah couple of ah pizzas here and there in the last couple of games. But again, from an expectation standpoint compared to what they were last season, brand new guys in the squad, some brand new names, A+, especially because they're i mean they're in the hunt still. I know I called it a two-man race here. It is what it is. But they've they, in my mind, have solidified themselves as no longer than no no further down the table than three in the last day. A+. plus Yeah, this is tough because they're definitely outperforming my expectations for them this season because of how many new players they brought in. But I don't know if I can give them an A plus knowing that they're seven points out of first place. But where did I think that they were going to finish at the end of the season was probably like five. But I mean, they're right there. So I would say I'm going to give this team
00:56:13
Speaker
Oh, this is an a minus because I didn't think they'd be third right now. Uh, but they're starting to stumble. They're starting to, to do what Adelina to does. And that was in the first half of the season with those last three draws or two draws and one loss. So they have to bounce back, but they're offensively, they're an eight plus and right. And they definitely been better defensively this year, but they still drop by subject grades here.
00:56:40
Speaker
And so yeah, I give them an an A minus. Wow. Okay. Well, I'm just going to give my grade here because no right you way, way, way off. I completely disagree. I would say this is a B minus or C plus. I genuinely, you had them, you had them. That's a crazy thing. Because so, so think about this. If you look at the table right now, your rate, my professor's score is out of Lanta's.
00:57:04
Speaker
what they said, this is the worst we can do this year. And like this isn't worst case scenario, but they this is what I would think going into season. The worst thing we can do this year is finishing fourth place. I genuinely think they're that good. I think they are better than all the teams behind them by a substantial margin. So right now, they're kind of in line with what their average should be. And if they had closed the gap a little bit more, I would say they Like they're behind, seven points is a lot. like I'm not- I think that you though, cause you are an Atlanta fan, low key, you, you overrate like where they should be. Like you had them too. You thought that they'd be higher at this point. Like I don't think if you ask most people, they would have Atlanta finishing top four, especially at the start of the season with the teams, the rosters, and them having such new players to learn the system.
00:58:00
Speaker
Well, I see your point. Think about the last five games that like, that is the reason they're here. They four games in a row dropping points. If they don't do that, what are we talking? Five points, four points, who knows? yeah would And those those inter Napoli, they're not doing that. And that's why Adelanta are getting a B minus right? Because you are at a level where you should be able to do that.
00:58:28
Speaker
You're such a hard ass. It's also like, this is where, you go whether they had this, were they had their whether they have whether they had they had the stretch now or their first five games, I expected at Atlanta to have a stretch like this. So for me, this is not a surprise, nor is it a disappointment. This is simply a phenomenal performance from a team that was brand new coming into the season.
00:58:50
Speaker
losing their striker two days before the transfer window closes comes in and gets their arguably their best player. Gasparini having absolute magic throughout the season developing guys. I have zero issues with how Atlanta has shown up this year, but we're talking Gasparini magic. It's not magic anymore. Like Gasparini is this and like if this is our average, and but that's what makes him. That's what makes him. It's because he's magical. He's a fucking wizard. So like that, that's, that's why it's not,
00:59:16
Speaker
That's why it's not Pioli doing this shit. It's fucking Gasparini. This is why it's not Inzagi. Inzagi's a tactician. This guy's a fucking wizard, bringing guys out of nowhere and making them good. A-plus. I wouldn't say guys out of nowhere. Like, Belanova was... No, yeah but I mean, he was... He t makes player much players much better than they are. Like, Coop Miners are still trying to figure out how to be good at Juventus. And everyone that's left the Atalanta system tends to struggle. But I just think, like I said, and I see your point of voice, vote because like Logan said, where we are grading on our projection for them in the beginning half of the season. You had them much higher than both me and Logues, which is why we have higher grades than them, than you.
00:59:58
Speaker
And that's probably, it that's probably just the the gap that is right there. Fair enough. I'm never taking those classes again. moving on De Laurentiis' team, fourth place, Lazio. My guess is we're all going to kind of have a similar grade here. Letitos team. Letitos. Letitos. My bad. Letitos. I was totally about apologize for saying De Laurentiis this entire time. So I'm glad that somebody fixed that because that would have been really bad for both of us. lovey lasrio What are you giving them? B plus.
01:00:24
Speaker
Lots is getting slung out there. I think lots he was having a great season a good season a good season a good season I but I think it's The reason I only give them a B plus even though even though their performance of any plus I thought you said a plus no No, no B plus. Oh I'm giving them a B plus. Oh Because I don't know I'm not convinced of their results because I think that it's been a A magical performance from here, there. you know Pedro is coming out of nowhere. The guy's 49 years old, still playing and scoring a bunch of goals, but that can't continue. And I i'm just i also just hate Romanioli, so I can't be giving him a successful season. Don't get me wrong. Lazio's had a way, way, way better season than I ever expected them to be. If you had asked me, I mean, you did. You did ask me at the beginning of the season where I think they would end up. I think I said eighth. So certainly a surprise.
01:01:22
Speaker
But again, I'm not, I'm not convinced of the squad. I think they're good. I think Ravel is good. I don't think when doozy's that good. And Zaccani has been on and off inconsistent. That can't get A's from me. Nuno Tavares is still good, but you can't be resting your head at night late playing your offerings through your left back. So for me again, B plus, Tati Castellanos finishing here on and off. It's been good, not great. B plus.
01:01:51
Speaker
My bad, had to come off mute there. I give Platio a big fat F because they fucking suck. I don't like them. They're overachieving. I agree to my predict to for my prediction. I think that it will stop. They're going to start losing games. They're not a good team. Latito's an asshole. They get an F. Unless they win the league, they'll get an A, which they're obviously not going to do. Lazio from Matz's grading gets an F. They suck.
01:02:25
Speaker
No bias. No bias there at all. Good good call. and No bias. for from a account From a little bit of consolation here, I would give them an A plus. Well, you're an idiot. There are four points. Top of the Europa League, it's a pretty damn good campaign for Barone's first year. Yeah, Barone's three. Who rounds with another team that kind of sucks. In fifth place, we have Juventus. Wow. Shots fired. I give. Shots. Go ahead. An A.
01:02:52
Speaker
They are undefeated. No, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I don't give them that. They probably get like a B minus at best. It's Mata's first year. A lot of new players.
01:03:04
Speaker
They haven't lost, like I mentioned, so that's a plus, but they obviously haven't won a lot of games. They can, see they don't concede that much and they also don't score that much. And that's why they're tying every single game. There's clearly something that they need to figure out on the pitch and that's going to be creating chances and then finishing those chances, which all the players in interviews say, like, we don't know why it's not translating because in practice we look amazing and create and finish and it's just not translating into the game. So.
01:03:33
Speaker
Hopefully that starts to translate, but yeah with all the money they spent in the summer, with the players they've had before they spent all the money, and with how they performed last season with those players, you would think that they'd be much better than what they are now. Like I mentioned, if you told the Juventus fan,
01:03:52
Speaker
yeah This is who you're going to sign in the summer. You give them a list. And then you say you also knock it. You're going to not lose a game. 21 games into the season. They would all assume we are 15 points clear of the second place. We're obviously not. We're fighting for Champions League football, which is always bad for your vendors. You always have to finish in minimum top four. I would say you have to win the league every year.
01:04:14
Speaker
And we're nowhere close to that and we definitely aren't going to win the league this year. I don't think the expectations for Juventus was to win the league this year, although it should have been. So I give them a B minus at best. So they have a C plus in my class, but I gave them a couple of extra points on a couple of quizzes because of the injury bug. And so they have a B minus or my end as well.
01:04:35
Speaker
I think Mats said it all, though. I mean, from the core group of players that they had from last season, plus the amount of money that they spent coming into the season, the high expectations of Mota being a tactical genius coming in as well, they certainly thought, I mean, again, fifth place is nothing to bat your eyes at, but this is you, Vey.
01:04:56
Speaker
And this team was already top four last year, should have been top three, actually top two. And they and to add so much in terms of talent from a money perspective, they 100% need to be doing better. So again, I'm giving them a little bit of leeway with the injury bug. Again, losing the the best center back in the league at the time in Bremer is nothing to bat your eyes at in terms of trying to come back from.
01:05:20
Speaker
but it certainly hasn't translated on the field. I don't listen to nor do I watch their practices. So I can't say whether or not they're scoring bangers in practice, but they're certainly not doing it in the games. And so really do need to see a better second half at a UVA. But we've said this before, this isn't a make or break season unless they, miss you know, they completely miss the European competitions, which it doesn't look like they are. So you can, you can move on and you can graduate with a B minus and be okay.
01:05:50
Speaker
Yeah, and I think what you guys are grading there is kind of in line with what we've been saying all year. Kind of right on schedule, right? They weren't really supposed to compete yet this year under MATA. The well the the furthest they would have liked to fall is probably sixth, fourth would be great. They're in fifth, like kind of right on the money wherever you expect them to be. And keep it rolling to Florence, Paladino,
01:06:14
Speaker
rollercoaster of emotions over the last two months or so. Fiorentina sitting in the sixth place, points dropped in each of their last five games, things really getting out of control after a stupendous start. So where are we at here with this team? I give them an A. I give them an A. they've they're They're the most improved improve team I would say by far over last season.
01:06:43
Speaker
I mean, probably naie i mean there's, there's no way, shape or form that you thought that the talented guys that they brought in made this team that much better, especially losing Italiano. I mean, this is, the they've had a really, really bad run the last couple of the last month or so. One of their guys had a heart attack on the field. I don't blame them.
01:07:08
Speaker
this Fiorentina team is a Cinderella story. I hope they can continue and they keep their run here. The the tough thing is, and I'm gonna stick to my A, but the tough thing here is, you know you look at the the top like ah the teams above them and none of them are having bad seasons. So it's not like Fiorentina is having a subpar season. They're just not, they just don't they don't have the same caliber that the other teams do. But to see the the amount of new players that came in Again, this is like a, an Atlanta story, the amount of players that came in that gelled the way they have that had the, this, the long run of success that they had. I mean, they were having a plus performances for weeks and weeks and weeks. I, they were my team of the month in October, right? The manager of the month in October, more as a keen player of the month. So for me, a, they, they could have had better performances. They could have not had this horrific run. They still could have been top four. So it's not an A plus for me.
01:08:05
Speaker
But from an expectation standpoint in a in in a season right now, I hope they continue it. I kind of disagree there. I'd probably go B minus to B. they're like they They have had A plus run ah or form, like you said, in that month of when was it? November, December, when they didn't lose a game. But obviously they have not won a game in the last five. So they've really fallen off. I'd also say that I don't know exactly where they were at this point last season under Italiano, but I know for a fact that they were probably the exact same spot that they are now.
01:08:42
Speaker
Also, knowing the coach that they hired in Paladino, he's a great coach. Look at how bad Monza is and where he had them consistently in the table. He had Monza at 12 to 10 every single year. So I would have thought that they would have made a jump, which I thought that they were doing, but obviously they haven't been consistent with it. And the way that they're playing now, I don't see them finishing much better than what I had them in the in the regular season prediction at six to eight, which is what they've been doing every single year with Italiano before Paladino got there. So I give them a B- for those reasons.
01:09:23
Speaker
Yeah, for me to get that in that A range, they will they have to break into a Champions League spot. Because otherwise you're just doing what you've done, the perennial Europa or Conference League team. That's what you are until you do something exceptional. I don't know how you get an A. And i they have had A plus moments for for a long stretch at the beginning of the year. They look like they were going to be better than Lazio. I said they were way better than Lazio.
01:09:48
Speaker
and Lazio have just held their form. Maybe it's because Baroni is a little bit more of an experienced manager with kind of different teams. But I don't know, Paladino could turn it around. So because the form that they had is very much recoverable, right? Like they have all the same players. All those guys are capable of doing it.
01:10:06
Speaker
We still hadn't seen Colpani at his best. Full of runshoe has finally come in. Gudmundsson wasn't even healthy during the that run. He still hasn't quite been up to up to speed yet. There's a lot of positives, and I think it could get better, but I'm i'm kind of leaning towards Montz here and and his one. But moving on to seventh place, we have Bologna and Vincenzo Taliano.
01:10:28
Speaker
I guess I'll go first on this one. I'm kind of similar boat that I'm in with Bologna with Fiorentina. they Are they outperforming Tiago Mata's than last season? Yes, I did say that, but it's only by one or two points. They had that super, super slow start where they didn't know how to win a game.
01:10:47
Speaker
But they weren't losing, so it was just a bunch of draws. They're starting to figure it out now. Santiago Castro for them is starting to ball out. He has a goal or an assist in every single game in the last like five games. ah so But they're at the same exact point that they were last year. They're at the same exact point that I thought they'd be in for um per predicting um table for the beginning of the part of the season. So since they're not overachieving, they're kind of just doing exactly what is expected. I'd give them a B. I give them a B as well. But I i think what, you know, let me, let me fight back on myself for a second. Okay. Stu Nod. They had a horrible Mercato. They lost their manager, or they just, they just got a new manager who we had high expectations for, but had always been a mid table manager, right?
01:11:44
Speaker
Again, didn't bring in anybody, it lost two huge stars, and were slated behind a bunch of teams that on paper were much, much better than them. They're sitting here in seventh, borderline six. they are They're on the brink of European competition. So why are you giving them a fucking B when you just gave Fiorentina an A? I think we're discounting very heavily the eye test here. Like, you gotta watch these games. Like, Bologna played horrible soccer for the B in the season.
01:12:16
Speaker
Boring, lifeless, nothing nothing getting behind them, bottom of the table, have obviously put that together. We just talked about it in the last couple of weeks. But I would say that a team like Fiorentina has shown that they are a have put on a phenomenal product through and through. Tough results, sure.
01:12:35
Speaker
But Bologna, I would say is still on the up and up and has only been consistent last month or two. They've been more consistent and like, well, it's more relevant to this debate. Also, I'm just going to totally dislike destroy your argument because you've just won nine Scudetos on terrible soccer and just getting results.
01:12:56
Speaker
So at the end of the day, results is the only thing that matters. It doesn't really matter how you get it. Obviously it's nice to have a nice product on the field on the pitch, but the result is all that matters and it doesn't matter how you get it. And so I don't really think the eye test matters.
01:13:11
Speaker
I mean, that the Serie A when Juve won nine in a row was ass. Or Juve were just so much better than everybody else. And once again, sure the soccer that they played was not pretty. It was 1-0. We're going to defend Corto Musso, Allegri ball, Kante ball, and we won nine straight. It doesn't matter about the product on the pitch. It just matters the result. Whatever makes you sleep at night, Mats. But I'm telling you right now, these grades, they got to have some eye tests in there.
01:13:38
Speaker
We got two left. Which is great, which is great for the next one. We're talking eight and ninth in the table. Milan and Roma, if I had to guess the bottom of the class, I'd be very surprised if they weren't. Let's start with Milan in eighth. D, a big fat D minus for AC Milan. I mean, i've I'm not going to belabor the point. We all know what has gone on this season. They have sucked. They have played far beneath their potential.
01:14:09
Speaker
They have only gotten results on a whim on some star performances here and there. They've fired their manager who they specifically brought in very early in the transfer window last summer. They spent a ton of money for the first time in a long time. We stink D minus demerits left and right. They need to go to detention, borderline suspended.
01:14:31
Speaker
And I'm not happy with the performance out of the student and they certainly need to take it to turn it around or else they're going to have to retake the damn class. And by that, I mean, they're not going to get the money from the European championships and we're going to suck again.
01:14:46
Speaker
Yeah. D minus pretty similar take. I'm going to go one up here and not look at the, on the pitch for a second. And I'm going to give Zlatan of a huge F for constructing the team the way he did and hiring the manager that he hired. Uh, I said it from the start. I don't, I know you guys aren't a big Pioli fan. You know what you have with him. He's won the league. He's gone far in the Champions League.
01:15:10
Speaker
I don't know who this Fonseca guy is. He's done nothing. Why are you hiring him? I understand why you're moving on from Pioli, but that was dumb. Emerson Royale, absolutely absurd that he thought that he was a good player and a consistent right back starter. Pavlovich I thought was a decent signing but hasn't translated. um So I give Zlatan and that whole management crew an F. I even give the ownership enough for a couple of years ago, firing Maldini, what are you doing there? So they're just going in the wrong direction there. And then on the field, I'm gonna give you guys C minus D plus, cause I think that you guys have some decent performances. You can't do it consistently. And then once again, I really think that it, Milan struggles were more of a manager slash front office, not constructing a team correctly.
01:16:00
Speaker
Then it is the players on the pitch and figuring it out because you guys do score goals. You guys got to figure some stuff out defensively as well. Kind of get more continuity there. But yeah. All right. So we'll go with the D plus for this grade. I also just to say, I didn't think Milan was going to have that good of year because of those moves. I had them finishing in fifth. They're not too far out of fifth right now. They're like three, four points out of fifth. So I think they could still get there, but I have them at a D plus.
01:16:29
Speaker
And the last team, ninth place, four points out of eighth, and in eighth place is Milan with a game in hand is Roma. They've had three managers. Not a lot has gone well. Things have started to go well in the last couple of weeks. I don't know if they're going to be graduating. My, my grade can't be higher than D minus because AC certainly hasn't had a worse season than Roma.
01:17:00
Speaker
but I'm not going to give them an F. I'm going to give them a D minus purely because, I mean, ninth in the table is not like detrimental now. It was a couple of weeks ago when they were sitting 14, 15, two points off of relegation, but you're not, you're top of the table. I mean, there's a lot of good talent in this league. Three managers is inexcusable. The way that some of these players have been playing has been inexcusable, but you're still sitting top of the table technically, just by definition.
01:17:29
Speaker
and you're not in nuclear blow it all up mode. Top half of the table. I'll add that in for you because there's no one near the top of the table. Top half. I, as I'm sitting here thinking of this grade, I thought of a good analogy and since we're on school i'm gonna we're gonna stick with school. Let's say you have you're you're the teacher and there's a student in class that has just so much potential. like The smartest guy but like just doesn't apply himself or doesn't always study so it doesn't always perform. I'm kind of thinking of Will from Good Will Hunting who's just a genius but like doesn't give a fuck about anything. so
01:18:09
Speaker
is like a janitor of MIT. That's how I look at Roma. I started the season. I was like, oh my goodness. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Let me pause this. Because where is the genius part of Roma? I would love to know. Let me get there. Let me get there. The summer, I thought, oh my god, look at these guys spending money. Gattarossi had a great end of the season. They're going to score so many goals. Dabala, Dovbic, Soule, Pellegrini. Who is the midfielder that's been balling? Kone. Kone.
01:18:44
Speaker
Like I was like, Oh my goodness, this potential here, they're going to finally put it together and make a Scudetto run. They're probably not going to get it done, but top four Europa League final. I really thought that they were going to do it. I had them finishing third. Like I really thought they did. And then.
01:19:03
Speaker
you get to class and it just doesn't listen, like doesn't doesn't work at all. Like the Dovbik de Bala Soleil did not work, just terrible everywhere.
01:19:15
Speaker
So I give him an F because I really, really thought that they were going to have a good season. This is going to be the year they break into the top four. I think all three of us had them finishing top four. I really thought that they were taking the next, they barely lost to an undefeated Leverkusen last season in the Europa League, a semi-final. They only got better. They invested and then they're onto three managers. I don't even know if Sulei is still on the team. He doesn't play. We got people are.
01:19:43
Speaker
Hummels, they signed Hummels, they didn't want to play him even though he's been to the Champions League final the last year. They had no idea what they were doing. They still kind of don't know, but Ranieri's just kind of figured, put a band-aid on it. So I give rome and Roma F, unfortunately.
01:20:00
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know how long it's going to give them an F. They're an F for me. It's just weird because like every time I think about them, I'm like, Oh, but next year, like they're going to be good like because the team is so good. Like to your point, like they have a top four roster period. Like there's no excuse for this. And like I, with everything that's gone wrong, I still feel like next year they could could compete for a Scudetto and just doesn't make any sense.
01:20:27
Speaker
It really doesn't. It's just like, just like will and good will hunting. He's a genius and doesn't care. Well, he's got to see about a girl. Love the analogy of the analog that that wraps up our grades forward before we wrap here. We're just going to say you did match week 22, uh, slate. You got calorie at Torino at Atlanta at Como. That's a contentious one. Me as my child, man. That's a sick guy. That's a great game. We got the monster beat UVA at Napoli.
01:20:57
Speaker
That's a really fucking good game. Napoli. Catch us. Catch us to Tokaucho. To Tokaucho. True. True. We got Polonia going to Empoli. Parma going to Milan. Roma going to Udenese. Inter inter Milan at Lece. Fiorentina in Rome to play Lazio. Verona at Venezia. Always a tough game. Snooze. valves Now are going to get that one done. And then we got Monza going to Genoa.
01:21:26

Patrick Vieira's team is still in pretty good form. He is. Moretti's been playing well for them as well, I've been seeing. But um two things I wanted to say about these games. Parma at Milan. We all know what happened to Milan earlier this season under Fonseca. Parma dismantled them in Parma, so want to see how Conse São plays Parma in that counter-attacking team. Also,

Fiorentina at Lazio is a huge game, and we saw Lazio struggle after they host or they went to Ajax in the conference league before that. They lost the next game. they're Once again, they have a tough game against Sociedad. This time they're at home, so it's less travel. Or it's no travel because they're both home games, but I like to see how Lazio fares against Fiorentina after a tough game against Sociedad. I'll say one thing to watch out of all the things to watch this week.

Would love to see if Caliari can keep the form going. they've They've three, two wins in a draw in their last three games. They're playing Torino. It hasn't been that good. I think they could get a win here and that could that could snowball. Just mark that down. What could snowball? Torino losing or Caliari winning? Caliari getting to like 11th. Yeah, right. That's not snowballing.

the big the big stone. We're talking pigs here. We got to give you the moon shot. Cold PD Luna. Cold PD Luna. I'm back on the cold. I haven't taken taken a pick in I think five weeks. Not good. Even off the books. months I've been hand up. Paisanos. I've been slacking hand up. We're back though. All right. You hit it then. What do you got?
01:23:04
Speaker
Well, we're back with my picks, obviously. So I'm sticking to over reliable, uh, and over, right? Because we always bet overs and we're going, we're looking at the Lassie of Fiorentina game. We, but we know Fiorentina has been struggling over the last couple of games. So they've been allowing goals, but we also know that they always score Moise Keane second most goals in the league.
01:23:23

only behind Rategi, so always a threat to score. And we know Lazio, Phyrra, their attack is always on, they're always on attack. And because of that, they have a very weak defense, very susceptible to goals. So I have Lazio Fiorentina over two and a half coming in at minus 106. I like this one. I think there's going to be a winner in this game and I see both teams scoring. So I think it makes a lot of sense. I think so too. I'm going to my Crosstown rivals.

I got inter minus one and a half. I took them last weekend also minus one and a half outside the Colby that hit. I don't see Lecce putting up much of a fight even at home. I've been wrong the season on that pick, but I'm sticking to it. I think inter is just rolling right now. Inter minus one and a half is your usual minus one 15. And to wrap it, I haven't talked about Atlanta enough today, so I'm going to going to sling it over there at the lake. We got Atlanta Moneyline minus one 30. Love the value.

I think this is a little bit of the eye tests of Como. Everybody likes how they play. They're nice and pretty, but Adalanta scores a million goals and Como cannot score a million goals against Adalanta. They just scored four, brother. Didn't Como beat Adalanta 3-2 earlier on in the season? and i think It doesn't matter. I was in Bergamo.
01:24:44
Speaker
What I also will say, I know this isn't like a completely fair fight, so we might have to figure out like a fair line, but Logan likes Como, you like Adelanta, Jersey game.
01:24:56
Speaker
I'll definitely do Jersey. I mean, I'm almost way worse. So I don't know like if it's fair, like, I'll go half a Jersey. I'll go. I'll go kids kid for both. T shirt. T shirt. How about a t shirt? I'll buy you a t shirt. I'm not Atlanta t shirt if they want. And I get it. And I get an eagle paws kit.
01:25:18
Speaker
fire. I feel like you should just do a como shirt with no one on the back. His paws is gone. They're, they're, they're, their kit is pretty fucking nice. That's right. Yeah. Like the reason is actually really clean. Well, yeah, we got around the Colby. What does that bring into looks? Do you did the math here? So As you guys all know, you bet the Colby, you bet all three lines singly, you bet the round robin, you bet the real Colby, you bet the parlay. That parlay is coming in at a low amount this week. We need to get a dub. That is plot plus $5.67, $100 down, $667 back. You know the drill, just bet it. Quick math. my um she about man Going back to the Como jersey, you should get a Delhi Alley jersey.

I should get Deli Ali jersey. A little factor up there, Mats. I love that. That's how we wrap up here. Deli Ali did sign for Como. And on that is official. We are done. Deli Ali.
