Embracing Bad Days in Pottery
00:00:16
Speaker
So in this episode, I'm going to be talking about why it's okay to have bad days and why you need bad days while making pottery.
Innovative Pottery Concepts
00:00:26
Speaker
Very recently, I started experimenting with something completely new, something that I have never seen done before. And basically what I'm doing is I'm trying to make a diorama on a mug without it on the side of the mug. I want it below the mug. I want it to show be in 3D. And so because nobody has really done this before,
00:00:49
Speaker
I have to figure it out all on my own. So I have to come up with new ideas. I have to co-op new ideas and I have to experiment the ideas. And if that doesn't work, I have to come up with a new idea. And I have to keep repeating that process until I have found and made the vision come to life.
Struggles and Acceptance in Creativity
00:01:05
Speaker
But you see, because I am experimenting with so much and because I am failing so much as well,
00:01:12
Speaker
it can get really draining and you know you you might be good a few times a few times of failing but then all of a sudden you hit that one time where you just fail so hard and you're just like what the hell is this even worth it should I continue doing this and that I have felt that like literally this past week I literally felt that myself because I was trying something out and just wasn't coming out how I wanted and
00:01:42
Speaker
Everything just went sideways, you know, like my whole piece was offset and that made me even more mad So I finally just lost it and I punched the clay and I had to reset and I was very angry about that, but that's okay It's okay that I was angry and it's okay that I failed because we need those times in order to Improve our pottery.
Growth Through Failures
00:02:06
Speaker
We have to be stubborn about what we want
00:02:09
Speaker
It's okay to fail, it's okay to mess up. It's okay to have those times when you're not gonna be 100%. It's okay to mess up one time, two times, 10 times, 20 times. It's okay. We're gonna have those days or maybe weeks or months where we're just not gonna be able to make anything. And that is okay. We need those times. Because without those times, then we aren't gonna be able to improve our pottery. We're not gonna be able to grow our pottery. We're not gonna be able to find our voice with our pottery.
00:02:37
Speaker
So we need those times where we are absolutely, nothing is being made, nothing can be made because just either our skill level or just outside forces are making us really messed up. But that is okay. We need those times because without my little freak out that I had, I wouldn't be coming up with new ideas. If I would have just quit, then my idea would never come to life.
00:03:04
Speaker
And then the potential for that idea could literally just be in my brain and nothing could come out of it. So like,
Envisioning Pottery Success
00:03:11
Speaker
let's say for example, if my idea does start to come to life, then one, I've made something that is completely new, something that somebody has never made before. Two, I could start selling that because nobody has ever made it. And I think it's such a unique thing that nobody has ever made.
Fostering Growth During Challenges
00:03:29
Speaker
We have to focus on the positives during those times when we are really down in the dumps when we, nothing is working for us. Because if we only focus on the negatives, we only focus on this isn't gonna work, I'm gonna quit this, I'm gonna stop this, then we're never gonna grow, we're never gonna grow our pottery, we're never gonna find our voice. We need those bad times. Because that's how we grow, that's how our pottery is found.
00:03:56
Speaker
And it's okay to have those bad times because everybody can have bad times every now and then. But that's okay. We need those bad times in order to help us find the positive voice that we're looking for.
