Juventus' Strategic Transfers Begin

00:00:02
Speaker
Welcome to the Italian football podcast. And that brings us on to our to our final second before Badjo, Premfe, Cecilia, Ass of the Week. Juventus have been very, very busy in the in the transfer market over the weekend. They've brought in two players, two wingers, Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina for, ah well, an initial loan, but with an obligation to buy, it's going to end up reaching around 37.
00:00:29
Speaker
to 38 million euros, 3.6 million a year contract until, um when I'm not sure, until it's not 2026, it's later than that. but That's incorrect that information I've got on here. But yeah, Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina, and then ah Francisco Conseil, the son of Sergio Conseil, on like a straight more of a strange deal here. So it's going to be an initial loan for a year.
00:00:57
Speaker
There is no buy option as far as I'm concerned. ah Porto will receive seven million for the loan plus three million add-ons, but Juventus will have the first refusal for to pay the release clause of Conseil sale of 30 million in the first two weeks of July. So it is kind of like an option really. It's just not officially an option. yeah um And that will so that will take that would take it to around 40 million if they did in total if they eventually if they eventually Decided to sign him. So

Nostalgia in Juventus' New Lineup

00:01:26
Speaker
consi sell the son of soda content. So you've enters right now are like the the the 1990s Child legends aren't they it's they've got you've got like consi sell consi sells son. They've got got
00:01:44
Speaker
ah Timothy VR. Yeah, George Wei's son. And they've got Errico Chiesa's son, although he's going to he's going to. So they've got like four like four sons of Serian 90s legends. It's pretty amazing, really, isn't it? Yeah, and that's that's actually a really good point. I haven't thought about it. Enrico's kid, Lilian's kid, George's kid and Sergio's kid. Yeah. Amazing, isn't it? Yeah. But Kei's is going to be sold, I think, the Barcelona and talks with him. But so

Challenges in Player Integration

00:02:17
Speaker
if he is sold, it seems as though Juventus are still going to see if they can try and bring Sancho in the last stage of the window too.
00:02:26
Speaker
um What is, I think, more more certain is that Thuyen Koop miners is going to join eventually from Atalanta. So, I mean, my take on this is that Juventus are suddenly looking very competitive. ah Obviously, it's a difficult going to be a difficult job for Mata because so many new players it's not going to be easy to get them to alter gel quickly. and So that isn't it that is going to be difficult. Problems come with that. But in terms of, you know, on paper, if we look at the options, you know, Juventus have gone from very bare and they're very bare for the Verona game. They've barely got could barely put out a team for it. But once these players all come in, they're registered and they join,
00:03:05
Speaker
I mean, Juventus have gone from no wingers to suddenly having some pretty good winger options. Nico, Conseil-Sal, Yildiz. I mean, if Sancho comes in as well, I mean, that's four, four kind of, you know, good top quality winger options there. You know, you've got Weijer as well, Mbangoula, lots of options there. The midfield with Kukmin has come in. We know he's very strong. That's going to be their strongest department.
00:03:26
Speaker
Defenses is not you know i think is is it's not it's still a bit of an issue it's still a problem and it's a problem and blah which obviously. Lots of questions so i did but for me i mean i have to say if this all gets pulled off i think we ended up doing ah an incredible job in terms of.
00:03:44
Speaker
the the play ah number of players he's managed to bring in ah from where events as well. I think it's incredible, really. It's

Criticism and Financial Strategy

00:03:54
Speaker
been a chaotic summer and an intense summer. um And i mean again, but like like we said before, like when when people were criticising Jintoli, we were saying, you know, has he overplayed his hand?
00:04:06
Speaker
at the end no At the end of the day, you really can't, the mercato, you really have to wait until it closes before you make a judgment. Obviously you want them to, you want things done as soon as possible in an ideal world, but the sheer amount of business that Juventus needed to do, the sheer amount of finances and and players they needed to sell, you know, so Western McKinney was going to leave, but now he's extended instead.
00:04:32
Speaker
So, you know, it's it's been a very, like, fluctuating situation for Juve, and they've adapted to it very calmly. um And and he's again, this is re this is the revolution that Juve fans have been waiting for for many years. This is the summer where they did it. They, you know, out with the old in with the new. um How, you know, we'll have to wait and see how it actually looks on the pitch, but... Yeah, well, I can't answer that in a minute, but I mean, just as to add to what you said about Junzli, I think what he's done so well is um financially because people are asking well how can you then to sign all these players but if you actually look at the money that's been saved also on salaries I mean he saved a hell of a lot of money on on on salaries the players that have been brought in are on generally on on on much lower salaries than many of those that have left the club um from from from last season so they've cut a lot on the salaries but also you know a lot of these deals are
00:05:27
Speaker
you know, initial loans, like if you take like Conseil Sal and Nico Gonzalez, just those two, well, it's a seven million loan for Conseil Sal. And then for Gonzalez, was it was it seven million, I think, or eight million for Conseil Sal for the first year of the loan, then the obligation on top of that. So you're looking at note, what's going on the books just for the transfer fees, you know, you're looking at kind of like 15 million,
00:05:56
Speaker
or or there or thereabouts I can't remember the exact figure of the consular's loan but it's basically take those loan figures and that's what's going on the books this season and they brought into. No obviously you pushing it down the line a little bit in terms of the finances and next summer you events are probably not going to be able to spend that much.
00:06:14
Speaker
and because Next summer, Juventus aren't doing as much. It's going to be a little bit like Inter this summer. Yes, exactly. exactly but i mean And they're going to look for a central defender. I think they're definitely looking for a central defender because the goalkeepers have been sorted, the midfield has been sorted, the attack has been sorted. The wingers. yeah um they need They need to so maybe sort out the full backs and the defence next summer. and We're talking two, three players at most, I think. I don't see them doing much.
00:06:41
Speaker
um next summer. But

Defensive Flexibility and Weaknesses

00:06:42
Speaker
yeah, this this is the revolution. Like I said, five years, you know, the UVA fans have been waiting for a long time for something new. Well, it's here. It's a new coach. It's a completely new project. Lots of new players out with the old in with the new. um They're going to have to.
00:06:56
Speaker
take this step by step um and see if they can offload some players and and and and you know balance the books even more after that but overall I think they've done financially well, they've respected the parameters it seems um and no it's it's it's something for you of a fans to finally look forward to. They've not had much to look forward to at all. The hope is back but if we look at We look at Juventus' line-up. How will Juventus line-up once all these players come in again? We're recording this before Verona, so I'm totally ignoring know whatever happens in that Verona game. I'm just looking at the season as a whole. um and And so obviously Di Gregorio will be the goalkeeper. um In defence, the back four,
00:07:42
Speaker
is is could change a little bit. I think Breme is a guarantee. He will always start. And then Cambiaso is probably, generally, we we can say, will be a starter. But whether or not he's on the right or the left will depend on who the other two players. As it stands right now, Danilo is not a starting 11 player there. You know, Mota is pretty been quite clear on that, that he as it stands right now, he's not really a first team player for Juventus, which is an an interesting talking point in itself. So we're looking at probably, let's say, Cambiaso right back, Cabal left back, and then Bremen and Gatti at centre backs, but there could be changes. we We could see, for example, Cambiaso go left back,
00:08:32
Speaker
and then right back be either Danilo if he can work his way back into the team or Kalulu who obviously has signed from Milan. Alternatively it could be that Bremer is the centre back with Kalulu so that gatty moves out in the scene Gatti moves out the team, Kalulu partners Bremer and then at full back you have Cambiaso and Cabal or Cambiaso left back and Danilo right back. you know So there are a few ah few a few options. I still think Juventus are ah probably a man short in defence. And also in terms of quality, I think you know that is obviously a bit of a still a bit of a weak area. um But at the same time, as I said last week, I think that Juventus' midfield is so strong and that the way that Mota teams play, they like to control the game
00:09:20
Speaker
um as a way to to protect the defense, control possession as a way to protect the defense. I think that the Juventus defense won't be as exposed as as it normally would be given that it's not the strongest off defense on paper, Juventus' defense. So that's the defense. Midfield.

Midfield Depth and Versatility

00:09:41
Speaker
So the midfield is, there's lots there's lots of quality in the midfield. I think the first choice, midfield, and will be um Taran and Douglas Louise as the the kind of like the two, let's say, and then um the kind of the number 10 in front of them will be coop miners the with the added advantage of, of course, that coop miners can form a three. um But at the same time, there are also Locatelli and Vaggioli who have their own quality. So it's possible that they will rotate in some games, you know, maybe coop miners will play in the in in in the two.
00:10:19
Speaker
in ah in other games, um you know, maybe Taran will be out and Locatelli will be in or Louise will be out and Locatelli or Fagioli will be in. So there's there's really, there's five good options there. And then I think McKinney will be like a backup.
00:10:35
Speaker
number 10 option maybe or maybe he sees McKinney as a maybe he's going to try and train him into ah into a right back. I don't know. you know mckeney's mckinney's McKinney's role is quite interesting actually. I think that was more of a financial decision to to to extend this contract really.
00:10:53
Speaker
um they've they've They've decided to to to protect this value, give them another year and then then try and sell them next year. I think there's more more to that and also it allows them to to send Moretti on loan, gives them an extra number in midfield. So I think that's where the McKinney plays.

Wing and Attacker Options

00:11:10
Speaker
And then the wings, um you know, as it stands, Juventus have five options for the wings. They have ah Nico Gonzalez, Conse Sal, who can both play on the right, but but Nico Gonzalez can also play on the left.
00:11:26
Speaker
They have Neil Diz, who can play on the left, but can also play as a 10, as we saw in the opening game, against Cuomo. And then we have Umbangula, who plays on the wing, but he may potentially go back to the next gen team. If Sancho comes in, we'll see if Sancho comes in. If Sancho comes in, that's four top options for the two wide roles. So you can see that the plan is to give Motta lots of options, Motta said he wants two players for each position and I think Junzili's given him that. So we'll see what happens with Sancho um and then up front there's Vlawic as the starting striker and then as it stands there's Milik as um
00:12:16
Speaker
as ah as the as the backup, um very slim chance the Juventus could look in to bring a backup for Wlawicz on a very cheap option, maybe a loan or something, if they can get Milik out, but I think that's going to be difficult. so Yeah, that's the team number. Well, you know, there's also just wanted to add this UNAS Ruhi, the Swedish Moroccan, the Swedish of Moroccan descent who will play at left back if if he's given given a first first team contract, but he will alternate between the next gen team and the first team, which would allow Cabal to play in the middle of as well and defensively. But yeah, well, that that's pretty much it. it's it's um Yeah, well said about Cabal. He is also sent a back option. Yeah. yeah so So there is there is that. There's also Saborna as well who's who's part of the first team squad and he came on half time against Colmott and might actually start against um Verona potentially because Juventus are down to the bare bones ah ahead of that game. So yeah, very, very, very, very, very active Juventus and lots of...

Juventus' Balanced Future

00:13:18
Speaker
Tiago Mota team isn't it like they've really he's really given Mota what what everything he needs and and options in young players you know young players that have huge potential that can grow and attacking minded players you know lots of legs and physicality in this team lots of technique
00:13:36
Speaker
areally they have Nico Gonzalez is is very good going forward. So no, there's there's this's this it's a it's a good balance team. No, no, they are covered areally. That's a good point to make, you know, with Vlawovic, Nico Gonzalez, and then you've got, you know, Toram, and then obviously the defensive players as well, Bremmer. Well, Gatti if he plays, so yeah.
00:13:59
Speaker
Yeah, no, no, it's it's looking like a complete team. And it is, lu they are looking like contenders. um They really are. Yeah, I mean, listen, I think it's we we we we can't underestimate the job that Motta has with so many new players. that You know, that is going to be a job. and But but, you know, Junzli has done, I think, done a very, very good job in chain bringing in so many players with the financial restraints that he has. And I think he's done very well ah in in that sense.
