First Pottery Sale Reflections

00:00:00
Speaker
I had my first pottery sale and only made three sales, but here's why that is a good thing. If you love pottery and want to take your skills to the next level, you're in the right place.

Introduction to Nick Torres and His Mission

00:00:13
Speaker
What is up, shaping nation? This is Nick Torres here. And for those that don't know me, it is my job and my mission to help potters like yourself to discover your own unique voice and help you sell your pottery as well. So with that in mind, this episode, I am talking about how I just had my first

The Value of Few Initial Sales

00:00:30
Speaker
pottery sale my very first pottery sale and I only made three three sales but that really is a good thing so that is a good thing because a lot of your probably think or not oh you only made three sales that's not that's not too good for you and you're probably right about that I did I
00:00:55
Speaker
Wouldn't doubt it at all. I definitely wanted more sales like that's not like at all what I'm saying I definitely wanted more sales like that. That is for sure what I wanted But here's why it's a good thing that I was able to only have three pottery sales Compared to having like or selling out all of them. So The first reason why this is a really good thing Especially because I just started selling my pottery
00:01:25
Speaker
is because I sold three Potter magnets. I sold three things that I made that I was truly passionate about. I sold three things compared to not selling any at all. And that's a really good thing. That tells me that what I am making is something that people are also gonna be wanting. They're also gonna be supporting me. They're rallying around me to buy my characters and that is such a good feeling.
00:01:55
Speaker
I have tried to sell my pottery in the past and I have never been able to sell my pottery until this recent pottery sale that I just tried and that's why I think it's so good that I only made three sales because now I got proof. I got proof that other people actually want the stuff that I'm making and that feels so good and
00:02:18
Speaker
Getting that first sale out the way is amazing. I'm absolutely truly grateful that I'm able to actually get that sale at all because now this propels me forward to start doing more things to actually start doing and getting better results.

Putting Yourself Out There: Risks and Rewards

00:02:34
Speaker
So the second reason why only making three sales is a good thing is that I put myself out there. I put myself out there and I reap the rewards a little bit.
00:02:48
Speaker
However small it is, I still reap the reward. I put myself out there, I became uncomfortable, and because I became uncomfortable, something happened. Something good happened for me. I got to know that people are actually willing to pay me for my magnets and for my characters, and that is such a good feeling. And that just makes it so that I can have a whole other vision, and now I have something better to look forward to. And because I put myself out there,
00:03:17
Speaker
Definitely getting ready for the next thing that I could do and it's the same thing for you guys Like you may be scared to put your pottery out there. You may be scared to try to go sell your pottery But if you put yourself out there good things will

Learning from Design and Marketing Challenges

00:03:33
Speaker
happen. So you just have to put yourself out there Now the third lesson the third thing why only making three sales was good was that I learned a lot about my sculptures from creating the magnets
00:03:48
Speaker
When I was making my first batch of sculptures for my magnets, I didn't really think everything through all that well. I was only focused on the design of it, but I didn't think to make the back flat so that the magnets would actually stick, or I didn't think to make my characters lighter so that the magnets wouldn't slide down. I didn't think about these things. It wasn't until I started creating the magnets and actually trying to sell them,
00:04:17
Speaker
think about these things because I didn't have the experience yet. And that experience from my first sale is now translating into my next batch that I'm going to be doing very soon. And I learned that I need to make my backs flat. I need to make them lighter and I need to make the design overall better. I also need to learn how to market my pottery a little bit better. And that is the fourth thing that I
00:04:45
Speaker
that I learned and that is a good thing from this sale from my first pottery sale is that I already started coming up with new ways to market my pottery to share my pottery because I don't know about you but I also tend to not really share my pottery all too often. I have
00:05:03
Speaker
A lot of stuff about my podcast, but I don't share my pottery too often. I share it to my stories, but the stories is a different thing compared to actually sharing it to your feed and doing other things to get it more attention. So I already started coming up with new ways so that I can get my pottery to sell a little bit better for the next time. So the four things so far that are really good things for me. So number one is that I made a sale for my characters.
00:05:31
Speaker
Number two is that I put myself out there and rewards are being built on to however little they are. Number three is I learned a lot about my magic characters simply from trying to sell them. Number four is I started coming up with new ways to market my pottery better.

Setting New Goals and Celebrating Small Wins

00:05:49
Speaker
And the fifth and last best thing that has happened to me
00:05:53
Speaker
because I made three sales is that now I have a number to strive and to beat for for the next sale that I do. So I made three sales this first time around. That means for the next time around, my goal is to simply get four sales.
00:06:11
Speaker
I know you're probably thinking but that's not still not a lot at all but that's fine. It doesn't have to be big leaps and bounds as long as we're still making progress. Any win is a win and my next goal is to get four and hopefully in three months time I'm able to double that and double that again until I'm able to sell out completely all of my characters.
00:06:33
Speaker
And those are the three biggest things that helped me and why it's such a good thing that I only got three sales. You could take this from your own experience as well. If you are someone that is trying to sell their pottery or has sold their pottery, but you only made a little bit of sales, you weren't making the sales that you were expecting,

Encouragement and Resources for Potters

00:06:56
Speaker
Take a step back and try to take the lessons that you learn from these sales. So if it's your first sale, be grateful for that. Be grateful for your first sale. I'm so grateful for my first sale, for my second sale, for my third sale, all three of my sales. I'm very grateful for because now I have something to work towards. I am getting better. I'm going to get better and I'm going to figure this out.
00:07:17
Speaker
And I just wanted to share this with you because we can always take good things from bad things that happen. Although I don't think having only three sales was a bad thing at all. I'm really excited for the future and I can't wait to do more sales for my own pottery. I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. I'll see you guys in the next one.
