Bye!

Daily Life and Polish Traditions

00:00:57
Speaker
How's it going everyone? Welcome to another episode of Soapstone. My name is Jake, and I'm joined by my co-host as always, Dave. How's it going tonight, Dave?
00:01:06
Speaker
I want to say blanket good because I have a blanket on. Um, but also I had off today, which is nice. I got some stuff done. Coke went to the gym, ran an errand. I didn't do much beyond that. So actually burned a lot of time, but, um, I would say it's good. How about you? End of the week. Maybe a good recovery day. Uh, today was nice. It was, I didn't have the day off. Uh, so fairly productive.
00:01:34
Speaker
I did learn about a Polish holiday, speaking of having a three-day weekend, apparently, because we're recording prior to Easter weekend. In Poland, they have a wet Monday. Yeah, get in the eyebrows, which is named as such completely for reasons you would expect. It's because kids run after each other with buckets of water and throw them at each other.
00:02:04
Speaker
That's just what it is.

Weekend Plans and Weather Woes

00:02:05
Speaker
I guess eventually they moved to Super Soaker who's another capitalist tools of oppression, but traditionally, yeah, bucket full of water.
00:02:14
Speaker
So it wasn't the ice bucket challenge. It's kind of like the bucket challenge. And then you can really opt people in versus them opting in. Okay. Although I think they said it was like, it is actually freezing there. So inadvertently this year, maybe the ice bucket challenge. I think if you're running out in freezing temperatures with a bucket of water, like it's hard to maintain the same childish, you know, take on it. No, you're kind of just harassing people at this point.
00:02:43
Speaker
The police arrest you for giving somebody hypothermia. Yeah, right. Yeah, slightly different. But no, today's been pretty good. It's always nice when it's just like, put a cap on that, got some stuff lined up for the weekend, gonna have a good time, gonna visit family. And yeah, should be good.
00:03:07
Speaker
And this is your first time visiting family in a minute, right? Yeah, I'd never go anywhere, but particularly- I meant more so with the pandemic. I wasn't putting that on the U.S., more so putting that on like the pandemic. Ah, yeah, yeah.
00:03:22
Speaker
I don't want to assign more credit than we're actually due here. These are the in-laws, so local family. I'm not going back to Washington State. This is visiting people that are, I don't know, hour 20 away, something like that. That even being said though, yeah, we don't visit that often, usually once a year.
00:03:50
Speaker
The pandemic has been a little bit of a pain for that because it's like, hey, we're looking forward to seeing you for that holiday thing. And then one of the kids is like, we're like, that's it. Try again next year. But so far, I don't think there's been any indication of that. So that's good.
00:04:16
Speaker
Nice. I hope everybody stays happy and healthy and you guys can just have a good visit. Yeah. It's like they said, April's going to come around. You'll get a little bit of that warmer weather. Just going to die out. We won't have to worry about it anymore. I think I remember hearing that back in 2020. I'm glad that that materialized. The sun kills things, which is why I don't go outside. It's got its eyes on me. It definitely kills us.
00:04:47
Speaker
I don't know. What's the next topic? I will make a brief aside to say the weather has been kind of nice recently. Oh, it has been. Yeah, I actually went on a walk outside. Whoa. Dang. Yeah, we did the same. That's how you know how extreme it is. Both of us were outside. Yeah, independently. That's a sample size of two 100 percent hit rate.
00:05:12
Speaker
Just goes to show whether it was good. It was really good. Hope it stays a little warmer. 70 plus. Give me a breezy 70. Mm-hmm.
00:05:23
Speaker
It is funny you said like hope it stays a little bit warmer. It literally was colder today, but across the average I would agree. Hopefully it stays a little bit warmer. What's funny? I was remarking on this is it snowed almost none This year. I think we had like two Two actual snowfall snowfalls one of them stuck on the ground. I was like, okay It's gonna snow tomorrow went out and I was like throwing ice on the drive when I throwing ice. Yeah
00:05:53
Speaker
Throwing ice on other people's driveways, throwing salt on our own. No, salting our driveway. And then it had melted within a day. I didn't even go where it was completely worthless.
00:06:07
Speaker
probably just poisoned the lawn directly or something with a runoff. But yeah, there was nothing this year, which honestly, we're pretty far removed from when I would build snowmen in the quad at university. I can say that without doxing us inadvertently because every single university has a quad.

Introduction to Gamer Questions

00:06:35
Speaker
Yeah, I don't appreciate the snow as much as an adult. I'm just like this is this is merely a hindrance Yeah, pretty but it's a hindrance I wouldn't mind seeing some snowfall. It's just if it's a weekend where I don't like drive anywhere. Mm-hmm
00:06:52
Speaker
because while I have technically gotten mildly better gloves, I just look so dumb and feel so foolish putting on like three layers of clothing and then just kind of like stumble out and then I'm just like poking at something to shovel. I'm like, the car be free.
00:07:07
Speaker
You're the Christmas story little kid. It was just like completely immobilized, 100% CC. What I really want is I want to just be in a nice open field watching the snowfall scene on the evergreen trees and then take off my VR headset and be in a nice warm house and not have to worry about it.
00:07:33
Speaker
I don't want actual nature. I want simulated nature. That's that's what I'm approximating Put fake plants in your house does wonders for you Yeah Might have to do that for the basement. That was the one thing that was was different this We it was so warm this week. We had the windows open stuff like that the cat was like sitting up on the window There's some pictures of it in discord and stuff and I
00:07:59
Speaker
It was it was great. Legitimately warm. I was like, I'm going to turn on my desk fan, like not asking people to close the windows because it's really nice, but I just need like a little bit of air. And then I'd go down in the basement and it's just like descend upon like into the crypt with like the temperature differential as it drops like 10, 15 degrees. And so it's the best. It's crazy. But. Yeah, no, it's good.
00:08:30
Speaker
Alright, so we covered weather. We did the normal introduction thing. Spent like an hour talking about Diablo before this, so can't really jump into that. I don't know, do you find anything online we can just fill content with?
00:08:52
Speaker
I have here a list of 50 questions that I want to have us go through And try and kind of answer quickly because they are you know, there's 50 of them. We have to go through every single one But this is just a kind of like a generic
00:09:09
Speaker
I would say like Facebook survey, Myspace survey back in the day. So this is 50 fun questions to ask a gamer. We can judge if they're fun or not. We can score it at the end. How good do you think the survey was?
00:09:28
Speaker
So yeah,

Favorite Games and Disappointments

00:09:29
Speaker
the plan here is I'll start us off. I'll ask you a question You have We're gonna say roughly 30 seconds answer. You can add a justification if you'd like to Or if I demand a justification because I think your answer is incorrect a little bit back and forth there and then we'll try and pass it off every one to two minutes and not really Sit on any one topic too much
00:09:53
Speaker
Right. So we get to the first question and it's just the entire episode. What is your favorite game of all time? Oh God, here we go. But Jake, what is your favorite game of all time? Go. So this one, this one's kind of tough. I also appreciate our setup for this. It could be impromptu. Maybe we're just sitting on quizzes all the time and we never acknowledge it. Favorite game of all time is really freaking tough just because of genres.
00:10:20
Speaker
I'm going to waffle on this one because even though I knew this one was a knee jerk of one that you'd like, it's, it's really hard, right? Like favorite game of all time. Like it could be like the most impactful game or it could be like story basic. I'm going to put a bunch of multiplayer time. I'm going to, I'm going to pray. Okay. I think pray pray could have some standing. Yeah.
00:10:49
Speaker
Yeah, I think I think prey could have some standing. Hmm. Okay. I'll say prey. The reason I'm going to say prey is because I freaking love that game. I don't like replaying games and I loved replaying prey. I got all the achievements on steam. I beat moon crash. And according to the statistics, no one else even played that DLC. Um,
00:11:12
Speaker
Pray's so freaking good. Pray basically made me love Arkane, I think. They were doing all right with Dishonored and then Pray was just like, hey, if you guys ever need food or a place to stay, just reach out.
00:11:29
Speaker
Good answer on Prey. I'll think about a second one maybe for the end of the episode if I can. What about you? What's your favorite game of all time? I'll answer for you also. Prey.
00:11:46
Speaker
Uh, definitely not pray for me. Pray was good. Definitely liked it a lot. Except for me, my knee jerk has to be like my knee jerk is like eldering, but I've definitely not spent as much time in that. It's just the newest game that just blew my mind. Yeah. One that really still stands out to me of just, I'm even like watching a let's player go back through some of it is fucking undertale. That game has so much charm and impact in me so much.
00:12:14
Speaker
And I don't have more than like 30 seconds to really think about this, so I'm just gonna say Undertale for mine. So you did go more for like the emotional impact side of it, as opposed to like gameplay and engagement. Yeah, it definitely doesn't have like insane gameplay or, you know, amazing graphics or anything. It just, it really hit me nicely. Oh, yeah.
00:12:39
Speaker
Yeah, I think Undertale is the game. I'm gonna literally ruin this list by the way. Undertale is the game that's the exception to kind of like the rule for us, right? Like you can piss Dave off as a hobby if you're ever like
00:12:55
Speaker
You should totally check out this game. We all love this game. There's so much hype about this game. This game's freaking great. And not really quantify it or give a reason why you should play it. Or over-hype it without providing, like, here's a concrete, like, this is something we can deliver on, right?
00:13:16
Speaker
I don't mean to be that to be a negative thing, but Dave's more of a realist to the audience. This is just between me and you, audience. We're just talking about Dave now. So he can bring things back down to Earth instead of having irrational levels of stratospheric hype. But when we talk about Undertale, it's not always a great idea for people who haven't played the game.
00:13:42
Speaker
in the same way that us talking about these other games, right? Like I hype up Subnautica. That's not great for people who are gonna play Subnautica. I hype up Outer Wilds. That's not great for people who are gonna play that game. When we talk about Undertale and we're like so freaking emotionally invested, you're not gonna have that connection that we have.
00:14:02
Speaker
No, but if you go in blinds and play through it, you'll probably have your own thoughts and feelings on it. And you're going to have that own experience cherished for you until the end of time. But that's what it was for me. And I like talking about it because I want other people to have those same types of experiences in games.
00:14:23
Speaker
I also realized that I have the edit this week, so I can just chop down all of your answers into like, bite-sized length. Just be like, pray, cut. What's your favorite game? Undertale, cut. What's, yeah. Just no justification behind any of it.
00:14:39
Speaker
We're like, wow, why was the episode freaking 20 minutes? And we started the quiz at the 10 minute mark. The audience is like, this could have been an email. Right. Did we need to meet for this? That's really the feeling we want to get when people finish a podcast episode. This should have been an email. I would have preferred to read this in text format. Thank you.
00:15:03
Speaker
But yeah, let's let's try move a little I'm gonna jump to the next one of these. Yeah, what you got? Yeah, you're holding it up Dave next one is what's the game you thought you'd like but actually hated Mighty number nine
00:15:19
Speaker
Okay. Oh, that's good. I don't think I have a whole lot of hype for it, but I, you know, wanted to give it a try because the original creator of Mega Man was involved with it. And I was like, yeah. And then they just pissed on all of her dreams. And I was like, all right, never again. Yeah. Well, you weren't into that. Some people pay good money. That's my current saying. Some people pay good money for that. What about you? That's replacing. I was going to say that's replacing the, that's how they get you.
00:15:47
Speaker
My new line is some people make good money for that. For me, Fallout 76, easy answer. Beloved franchise, and it's dang near a franchise killer. They have to reprove themselves with the next game, whereas until Fallout 76, I was at pre-order levels of hype. I'm taking PTO for this, not doing that anymore. Cyberpunk doesn't even compete.
00:16:13
Speaker
Still put a hundred hours in the cyberpunk that would almost be like my two, but I legitimately enjoyed cyberpunk It had playability it had a lot of like dumb bugs and stuff But like a lot of it was still actually fun. It just wasn't complete yeah, so definitely thought I'd like it and closest thing I could get to hate hate is a strong word, but Next hit me
00:16:39
Speaker
What's a really popular game? Everyone seems to love, but you don't like. Oh my gosh. What is up with kids these days and, uh, call of duty. No, um, game other people love, but I don't really like, I think it's, it's normally more of the, can I answer with a genre? I think it's kind of the mini game genre. Things like fall guys among us, things like that. Um, I don't really enjoy them as much.
00:17:08
Speaker
Like smaller party games Well, I was gonna say like those ones I don't get into as much I guess but I know that they were big online right like a lot of people played among us we did for a while, too but I Don't know. I I do struggle to engage with those a little bit more This one doesn't say hate so I think that's a more reasonable it's popular, but I didn't really like it
00:17:35
Speaker
What about for you? What do other people like that you don't? Team Fortress 2.
00:17:44
Speaker
I don't need to justify it.

Gaming Worlds and Childhood Crushes

00:17:45
Speaker
I think it stands on its own. That's fair. That's fair. It has aged a lot too. I think if maybe you came in ground floor with the right group of friends that your experience would be different. But coming in late. I very much came in late to a lot of that stuff and like I don't know what it is and why people like it. But I'm sure I have my other games like that in my own category. Whereas the opposite. That's fair. What's a game you didn't expect to enjoy but you ended up liking?
00:18:13
Speaker
50 cent blood on the sand. Do you even own that? Marlowe brings Marlowe brings for you. I'll answer. I feel like there was something actually that fell into this camp.
00:18:30
Speaker
trying to look quick. Can I answer while you're waiting? And we'll just remember you have the next question. If you have one for me or for yourself, please go ahead. Okay. This one's definitely for me, not for you because it's more comparative, but like Hades actually, or no, actually I'm going to take Hollow Knight.
00:18:49
Speaker
Hollow Knight, because I generally still don't really like platformers, and I freaking loved Hollow Knight. The sheer differential there. I didn't think I would hate it. I wasn't 100% sure I'd dislike it, but I didn't think I was gonna fall in love with it, and it's freaking Hollow Knight. Easy answer for me on that one.
00:19:09
Speaker
I think that's fair. Yeah, it's amazing. Actually, forget I said Undertale Hollow Knight. Fuck Undertale. Fuck you, Toby Fox. For me on this one. He crosses through his Valentine's card. He was preparing. Toby, no.
00:19:30
Speaker
I think for me, it was loop hero. Cause like initially I saw some stuff for it and I was like, seems kind of interesting, but also kind of like boring and not interesting. And then I watched somebody play it for like 10 minutes. I'm like, yo, this music slaps. Yeah. And then I, I started to get that bug in my brain of like, how can I optimize this and do a certain run? And then I just got into it pretty deep. Yeah. It was actually just really good. Oh yeah.
00:20:00
Speaker
You have the next question What's the game you spent the most number of hours on? Thankfully Stephen has a way to do this for you I'm gonna save some time cuz I'm not signed in on Steam. It's either it's an MMO for sure. It's either Eve I don't think it is or It's Dota which is possible It's Dota. It's almost definitely Dota
00:20:28
Speaker
Crap, that's actually scary. It's been a long time since I played Dota and it's still gotta be Dota. Like I have, I know I'm over like a thousand hours in Destiny. I'm probably a little bit more in Final Fantasy 14, but I think Dota is still the most at like 2,000 plus hours.
00:20:43
Speaker
I'm going to really quick peak what my binding of Isaac is. Cause I know that that was a lot. Oh, oh, it's DOTA. Holy fuck. Is it DOTA? Yeah. Do you want to venture a guess for comedic purposes? Has it appreciably more than two? It's got to be around 2000, right? Cause I played before you did for an extensive period of time. I'm going to put you at 20, 2,100 hours.
00:21:07
Speaker
Uh, 4091. Next question. Nevermind. And you don't even like idle in Dota, like you didn't find any of Isaac. That's a lot of hours, jeez. I talk about it forever game. If you had to marry the last video game character you played, who would it be? What's funny about this question, is it actually the first part of the question?
00:21:30
Speaker
doesn't matter because it just right it's just asking who's the last video game character you played but if you had to marry so it says you played which means played as so i think so the protagonist i'd be marrying the paladin from diablo 2 i guess that's not too bad i don't think i don't think that's too bad
00:21:51
Speaker
I mean, he seems strong and capable, I'm down. Right, yeah. We were already talking about Twink, so we should be good. Crap. I mean, I haven't played a game with a protagonist in a hot minute. What was the most recent one?
00:22:08
Speaker
Well, I played Hearthstone most recently. That doesn't count. Actually, technically, it would have been one of the protagonists. We'll pick the main one there. It would have been Arthas as he's becoming the Lich King. Technically is the answer. And I don't think that's a good relationship. Hot take. If your significant other is on the road to become the Lich King, dial it back.
00:22:36
Speaker
You can't change them. I mean, as long as you're not in their way, I think you'll be okay. Yeah, they're just not going to treat you with the respect and the priority that you deserve in that type of scenario. Okay. I think your question next.
00:22:55
Speaker
If you had to live in the world of the last game you played, what world would it be? This is kind of like the same question. This is similar to that. That's cool. Yeah, let's skip it. Let's skip it. Have you ever had a crush on a video game character? And then I'm going to ask you to define who if the answer is yes. And if the answer is no, I'll call you a liar and then ask you to come to the company. Yes. Ah, geez.
00:23:16
Speaker
It's kind of weird to think about now. It's been like a long time So I know I was one of the people who played Final Fantasy 7 at a time Where Eris is an acceptable answer or Eris if you're a weeb That one's definitely definitely up there for the classic same reason anyone else would answer just healer Technically girl more than one polygon. It's all you need
00:23:43
Speaker
Um, there's probably more answers since then. I know that there's more answers since then, but I don't know who I would identify a crush with really in the modern context. Do I need to bring a belt and a ring? It's Ronnie. You, you, that's true. But I mean, I, that's honestly more of an answer for you, I think. Listen, you're married. This is all I have. And that's like the owner of the simpin for Ronnie fan club.

Current Gaming Adventures

00:24:13
Speaker
So big big simpin To do an older example though I would say yes But to do an older example, I think one of the first times I like found a character attractive in a game was the dark queen from The battle toads and double dragons. Okay, that's She had very much a
00:24:42
Speaker
Like a busty lady who wore all black, long black hair, very much like Elvira. And I was like, yeah. All right. Okay. Well, if we're going to reverse that, I'm going to have one more answer. So mine's not just a Passover, like freaking Eris. I'm going to pick Liara from Mass Effect, actually. Earlier games in particular, she was a very interesting character. And I was like, what if this person's romanceable?
00:25:06
Speaker
And then they're like, Asari can be romanced by literally anyone. I was like, I'm literally someone, that's perfect. I'm telling your wife. All right, you have next question. That's fair. Next question. Let's make sure it's not a skippable one. What was the first game you ever remember playing? Yeah, let's test that.
00:25:27
Speaker
For me that is actually gonna go back to Super Mario back in my grandparents Attic there is like a very narrow like Attic in the middle of the house that you go up But there's Nintendo up there and like other like toys for kids but like a lot of time like me and the other grandkids so I have like
00:25:47
Speaker
a whole bunch of cousins, like we'd all kind of go hang up there, play with toys and, uh, let the parents do whatever. Um, I just remember playing a lot of super Mario and like we remembered, or I remembered when you would actually get the level skip. That's as far back as my brain could probably go. Yeah.
00:26:07
Speaker
Yeah, my answer immediately, I jumped to Sonic from Sonic CD. I was like, wait a minute. I played some games before that. In fact, I played the Sega Genesis, where I played Sonic in Sonic 2. So, Sonic.
00:26:25
Speaker
My answer does not change upon elaboration. And Knuckles? No, no, no. There's no Knuckles. Well, yeah, Sonic and Knuckles came in with three, but we played two on the Genesis. Anyways, next question's yours. Have you ever pretended to be sick to get out of something so you could play a game?
00:26:48
Speaker
So three phrases too. Have you ever opted out of a social obligation or any type of obligation so you could just spend more time playing games? I have a more fun answer for the original one. I don't think I've opted out of a social obligation just to play games to answer that briefly. But the original one, I have a better answer, which was I've tried to play video games with a migraine. I tried to play Wolfenstein enemy territory.
00:27:13
Speaker
and i realized at a fairly young age that is really stupid like trying to play a first-person shooter with other players with a migraine and you're just like i'm not gonna have to do homework today stupid don't do that life wasn't linked what about yeah it's it's not great
00:27:35
Speaker
I'm just gonna say yes. That sounds like something I would definitely have done. No elaboration. I mean a lot of times like I would feel sick but my parents always had like the hey if you're staying home from school or what have you like you need to rest and you can't just like
00:27:53
Speaker
dick around and play video games and they're suspicious like how healthy are you actually? You're hanging upside down from a monkey bar controller in hand. I'm sure that like I did have a day where I was like I don't feel so great but I ended up just kind of like laying down in the basement again where it was colder but that's also where the CRT was and a PlayStation. So I will bet you money I turned that on to play some while I was air quotes sick.
00:28:21
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I think I had that questions. Yeah, I have next. Okay. What game did you last complete? Quick scroll. I think it might be signal us. Yeah, I'm gonna go with signal us.
00:28:45
Speaker
I think we talked about this briefly outside of podcast. It is like a 3D pixelated isometric survival horror. I'd say that it's interesting, but I don't think it's amazing by any means.
00:29:03
Speaker
Right. If you're bored, you want to spend five or 10 bucks on like a weekend, maybe check it out. But beyond that, not too much to say. What about you? That's when you actually completed. Last game I completed was Dredge on PC, and we've never even talked about it, but I really enjoyed it. It is a fishing simulator on a ship with Lovecraftian undercurrents. I'm going to leave it at that.
00:29:30
Speaker
Undercurrents, I get it. And let's see, what game are you playing right now?
00:29:39
Speaker
Right now, it is Diablo 2 Remastered because a friend from the show, Justin, sent me on a spiral and I want to play games with him. What about you? For me, I'm doing a little bit of a Hearthstone kick. I don't play the multiplayer. Disclaimer, I don't play the multiplayer. I'm just here for the single-player adventures because they pretty much always release these sort of like rogue-like deck-building things and they're good.
00:30:07
Speaker
And they have been good. So I'm not going to apologize for that. Next question. What game do you want to play next? What's on the horizon for you? We're like this. Don't play this. Can it be one that I've started or does it need to be one that hasn't come out? Up to you.
00:30:29
Speaker
Okay. I want to finish like a dragon. I do need to move myself into a PlayStation playing game mode instead of PC on Discord and then we're checking out things playing mode, which is a little bit tough. But I want to play like a dragon and the other answer would be probably Redfall. I want it to be good, but we'll see.
00:30:52
Speaker
And that one's going to come up before the rest that would be on the list. Things like, uh, starfield or whatever the crap, but this is all contingent upon being good Diablo four contingent upon being good. I answered like three times though. What's yours? Silk song.
00:31:07
Speaker
When's that come out? I don't know. I don't know. Eventually. I hope. We hope we play it. I will also play Silksong. Yeah. Let's see. Do I have the next one? Yes. All right. In your opinion, what is the best games console? I don't like this question. Not for the reason you think it is. I don't like this question because they say games console. I feel like it should be game console.
00:31:41
Speaker
We can skip it What do you think the best game console is though?
00:31:50
Speaker
PlayStation. I like the UI. I like a lot of their games. There's a good selection of stuff. Everything with Xbox just feel very tried and primarily AAA. And a lot of the... I mean, Switch has some good stuff, obviously, that I play a lot. But, like, I don't need it as much. Like, I'm not gonna be like, oh, there's a new Switch release coming out. I got checkout. But I do think about that with some PlayStation games.
00:32:18
Speaker
I think that's fair. Fake answer is PC, but it's not really a game console. I would probably second switch. Like PlayStation is the better dedicated console, but legitimately I don't play that many console

Opinions on Popular Games and Streaming

00:32:34
Speaker
games. And I don't know. I put a lot of time in the switch. So it's between the two.
00:32:41
Speaker
I just find I don't use the portability of switch as much as I absolutely don't either We could not find enough content to talk about handhelds we tried I'm sorry. I'm sorry we tried But yeah switch while it's plugged into a dock is my number one slot probably followed by PlayStation What about what uh what's the next one?
00:33:04
Speaker
The next one is, our PC game is really superior to console players. Yes. 100%. We don't need aim assist. We don't have your shitty Xbox Live name. Get out of here. But in all honesty, yes, they are. We don't have to worry about claiming that, you know, we effed your mom because we don't have anyone. It's like PC gamers are obviously superior.
00:33:31
Speaker
Easy, easy question, easy answer. Especially as an adult, you know. Console games for kids. What's your opinion on Fortnite? Fortnite. I have no opinion on it. It's not really anything for me. If people enjoy it, cool. But it's really just not anything I've been interested in.
00:33:55
Speaker
Yeah. And my answer to this question is Fortnite is the game I should have picked when they asked, what's a popular game that you're not interested in? So that answers both of them at the same time. Next question. Have you ever watched a Twitch stream? Oh, yeah. I mean, I think everyone has at this point. Also, yes. Yeah.
00:34:17
Speaker
I feel like that's not the most in-depth question. Yeah, you've been part of a Twitch stream. So you have advanced levels. Let's move to the next question. Have you ever streamed yourself on Twitch or YouTube? Oh, yes. Thank you for asking. I have.
00:34:37
Speaker
I don't know if you saw the next question when you started. I did not. I legitimately didn't. I'm revealing them as I go. Yeah. I mean, I haven't, uh, I didn't have YouTube video of myself jumping on a trampoline when I was a kid for a while, but I marked that private because that should not just be there on the internet. Uh, that doesn't count though. So, uh, I don't think I've ever streamed myself. I have streamed games before, but never, never myself.
00:35:05
Speaker
It's a fun thing to do. I think more so on discord for a lot of people who we know. Um, but obviously not as many people like to do it as widely global as Twitch. Yeah. I also wonder if some of the intent on this question, when they say, have you streamed yourself, does this include face cam, right? That might change the answer a little bit. Cause I think most people have streamed a game on discord at this point too.
00:35:28
Speaker
Oh, I always put my face on as well. Some people can see my reactions when I die. Uh-huh. Naturally. Uh, next question. Have you ever used a walkthrough? Absolutely, yes. Um, but I'm not even going to qualify that. I was going to say for old games, cheat code central, stuff like that. Absolutely. Yes. And then I thought about it. I was like, I've used it for new games as well. Life is short. Use a walkthrough. What's your answer?
00:35:54
Speaker
Also, yes, for those exact same reasons. There's times where I'm just like, where's the strawberry located? I'm not wasting fucking time doing it. I still have to get the strawberry on my own. Just tell me roughly where it is.
00:36:07
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah, I think sometimes this can actually There's the psychological fear of missing things as well depending on the game and that can hit me in a way that I'm concerned, right? Elden Ring actually did this on watch too. Some people like to just kind of do it in one pass whereas other people like oh I can come back
00:36:26
Speaker
Yeah. But a lot of times it's just like, oh, I beat it. Do I want to go back just to collect things I missed? Eh. Defense. Or even in that case, if you do a pure playthrough the first time without any hints or whatever, you can come back and use a walkthrough. You're legally allowed to at that point. There's no stipulation, no concern there. Absolutely use a walkthrough so you can actually complete one side quest in Elden Ring. So yeah. Did I ask that question or did you? I think I did. I did.
00:36:56
Speaker
Alright, my next question is what's the best weapon you've ever used in a game? And why is it the same briefly? I briefly peek so I could actually have an answer I have possibly two one is to his sword from
00:37:13
Speaker
What's the free running game with the sword slashing? Ghost runner. Sword from ghost runner, because it always cuts people in half, which I enjoy. And then the other thing would be Ostio Estriga from Destiny 2. Yeah. Yeah. Destiny helps prime an answer for me for sure, too.
00:37:31
Speaker
Because there are some really good weapons in Destiny. And the BXR Battler. You can pick any game. It doesn't have to be. It's true. The Destiny answer is probably the BXR Battler. Not even exotic.
00:37:47
Speaker
Crap, yeah, in other games I kind of struggle to think of an iconic weapon. And I know there's so many through the years, but I don't have a personal attachment to like the Doom Super Shotgun, or the BFG, or something like that, right? Or the Master Sword. You can say Hollow Knight Nail, that's pretty classic. That is pretty good. It is pretty much just a sword though, right? It's a sword that gets longer. Yes, it is.
00:38:12
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. There's some there's some cool stuff in there. Maybe some plasmids, but those would all be cheating for an answer. So I guess I'll leave it with the destiny gun as well. Your question.

Emotional Gaming Experiences

00:38:25
Speaker
Have you ever had to stop playing a game because it was too scary?
00:38:30
Speaker
Uh, ooh, probably yes. Uh, as long as stop playing a game is like, stop it temporarily. Like, I don't think I should play this game right now. I don't think I've dropped a game because it was too scary though. What about you?
00:38:49
Speaker
Was gonna say yes for actually both and both of these are actually gonna tie to amnesia games So gotcha first amnesia was probably like one of the first spooky games I had played and I definitely took some breaks playing that Because I was like playing in the basement and it was dark. I was like, this is a terrible idea for my anxiety. I
00:39:07
Speaker
I didn't even know I have yet And then the second one Amnesia to machine for pigs was just too Unsettling for me, and I just stopped playing that all together. I didn't go back Yeah, my go-to strategy is Play at noon not during the nighttime listen to Metallica or something like that and
00:39:30
Speaker
It doesn't matter what the game ambience is. You're not listening to that. You're listening to Metallica. And whole W, basically. If you die, it's fine. You've now learned what the failure condition is. Treat it mathematically. Figure it out what it is. Don't let the game convince you any part of it's real to your senses. And basically undermine the entire experience. That's the dream.
00:39:52
Speaker
All right. That works. Yeah, I'm mostly joking. I don't think I've dropped the game for it though, but I also don't pick up scary games often. So that's the other part of it. So I have the even ones. That's all I can tell going forward now. Has a game storyline ever made you cry?
00:40:14
Speaker
I just want to point out to the audience. This is now our 22nd question. I just realized. Well, there's two of us, right? If a third person would have joined, it would have thrown it off, but that's not likely. That's true, that's true. Welcome, our special guest, mid-heavens.
00:40:31
Speaker
So I keep trampling over the question you said has a game storyline ever made you cry I would say yes Yeah, my specific go-to is gonna be Undertale And I'm sure it's happened for other games as well, but they're not jumping to mind immediately Yeah, do any come to mind for you?
00:40:51
Speaker
I definitely, I definitely also think the answer is yes. It's definitely an emotional kind of like tug on the heartstrings type game. But man, I'm I think Amore actually. I'm pretty sure I cried. Oh, yeah. Amore. Shit, that's right. Yeah. Forgot about that one. Yeah. Well, the trauma is still there. So you don't have to worry about ever losing that. But it's an even one. So your question.
00:41:23
Speaker
What's your favorite fighting class? Warrior, mage, or rogue? So this is going back to the classic three archetype. Bruiser, caster, or sneaky disaster? Definitely mage. I always said disaster, so what do we write? Mage? Definitely mage, unless it's Elder Scrolls, in which case you have to play stealth archer. There's actually no other option. Sometimes it's stealth archer with magic, if you're lucky. That's fair.
00:41:52
Speaker
I do enjoy all of these, but I mean warrior because I might hop into a game like I'm always like I Don't care about spell. Give me the damage. Give me the up in their face every time I start His soul's like I'm like what's gonna give him the wallop?
00:42:13
Speaker
Yeah, talk to NPC. No, no, no murder NPC. Let me go in brute strength and see what happens for first playthrough It's fun. I I get around that with a paladin archetype. You're technically still casting spells. It's just they're healing spells Let's still let you use this white-handed What's your favorite game genre
00:42:34
Speaker
Souls like okay, there's you're eating well The other one for me is probably like immersive sim something like prayer bio shock like that's where I Had a lot of early time. I was like, holy shit. I'm very much into it But both of those I can really get immersed into so so was like or immersive sim
00:43:00
Speaker
Yeah, I'm gonna crib your answer and also pick immersive sim I mean obviously not a surprise with prey. I do like it with an RPG twist Usually some more RPG elements are better But immersive sims usually aren't too light on it
00:43:16
Speaker
I usually prefer something a little bit more than BioShock. Um, and the immersive sim space, the RPG space, and that would be the sweet point for me. So immersive swim, immersive swim sounds like a adult swim studio, right? Um, but, uh, yeah, something like system shock or it has to respect your time. That's the reason I'm not going for full RPG with this one. For real, for real.
00:43:46
Speaker
Next cue. I'm gonna skip down a couple, partially throw off the numbering scheme, but also some of these are I don't think good questions. I'm gonna skip down to 28. 28. So what or who got you into video games in the first place?
00:44:03
Speaker
Um, actually my sisters, they were the ones with the Sega Genesis and I saw them playing it and I was like, this is your life now, but it's going to be my life forever.

Gaming Origins and Sessions

00:44:15
Speaker
Um, and that's where I'm at right now. What about you?
00:44:20
Speaker
Uh, I would say also your sisters. They just really made it seem exciting to me. I don't know. I just really got into it. I think for me, it would be my cousins, Kevin and Alex. I'm sure I've talked about them multiple times, but like growing up as a kid, like I'd go visit them for like a week in the summer. And like, I didn't have much in the way of game stuff at home, if at all for a while. And then they had everything under the sun. I'm like, holy shit. So for me, it was like this whole new.
00:44:48
Speaker
interactive world that I just was so curious about. And that really has stayed ever since because I'm like, oh, this can branch in so many different ways. Uh-huh. The novelty never ended, right? Yeah. All right. Um, we were switching, switching even odds now, but that's okay. I'll recover. What's the longest amount of time that you have sat playing video games nonstop?
00:45:15
Speaker
So straight session. With literally no breaks.
00:45:24
Speaker
This is going to have to go back to like high late high school, early college days. I'm going to say. 12 hours, probably done 12 hours straight. Yeah, we were just constantly playing. Smash on the Wii or just Halo 2 multiplayer, because we get in like a friend's basement and just go. Yeah.
00:45:50
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's probably around the same for me. There have been days where I was just like, oh, right, food is important. I don't know where you would factor in bathroom breaks at all. I assume that bathroom breaks are kind of factored into this. Yeah, you just, okay. Yeah, yours is more accurate with it. The efficiency play. The Mountain Dew bottle, right? The classic gamer move. But yeah, probably around the same. When I was younger, it was until my tummy hurt.
00:46:21
Speaker
And now that I'm older, it's usually until my tummy hurts. But yeah, just because I haven't eaten at that point. Yeah, similar answer, I think. It's a good metric. I also like the idea of like your stomach hurts for different reasons besides hunger. Like it's just actively making you sick. Well, see, when I was a kid, that was the actual thing, though. I just literally, I struggled to just sit in one spot.
00:46:46
Speaker
I was just like in the screen of the audio video, like audio visual sort of interaction or something would just make my stomach a little bit upset after a period of time. I just broke my body of that as quickly as possible. I was like, no, we're going straight through this. I wish I had focused to do that with certain things like peanut allergies. Yeah, just power through death. I think next one's yours.
00:47:14
Speaker
If video games didn't exist anymore, what would you do? I'm sorry to ask such a dark question. That's a little bit of a turn.
00:47:23
Speaker
If it didn't exist anymore, I'd probably find something to replace it. If it wasn't literally video games, I would probably play more tabletop games, anything else that's the closest thing to a video game that is not actually a video game categorically. I'm sure I'd watch more shows and anime and crap like that too.
00:47:47
Speaker
Yeah, there definitely need to be, uh, sometimes I'm going to fill the gap of media, but I could also see myself like getting into a sport or two. Like if I didn't have that type of media as an option, I had to watch my shows. I'd be like, I want to play some volleyball or something. Right.
00:48:06
Speaker
Yeah, maybe that's an even darker outcome than the one I'm anticipating. It's like stayed physically active. Terrifying. All right. But my question is, what is your favorite song from a game? This is one of those rough ones. So I'm going to try and narrow down my infinite list here to say that I should probably have
00:48:34
Speaker
Lyrics? Okay, or just be... I think song categorically needs lyrics. I think that's in the definition for song is that there's lyrics.
00:48:48
Speaker
Anything from near automata? Those are really good How to a song but like I mean, how do you pick one and also do you remember the name? I'm gonna actually take it further back to near replicant because I actually do know the name of this song I will say the Shadow Lords theme Mm-hmm cuz when that pops off who? Not doing the game. Mm-hmm
00:49:17
Speaker
That is fair. I do think that there probably is an answer here, but I don't know what it is for an actual song because I can think of a lot of like tunes or like Song of Storms or whatever the crap. I was literally humming the Song of Storms today randomly, but there's not usually lyrics associated to that.
00:49:34
Speaker
Audemars of the Marox, yeah, yeah Anything with a KK slider honestly very fair But yeah, I'm not sure I probably would Cop out with something from near but I'm not a massive near fanboy. I think it's just an excellent game Can't think of another song honestly
00:49:59
Speaker
I would, I would say go back and listen to some of them again because holy

Fighting Characters and Financial Regrets

00:50:04
Speaker
shit. They're really good. I know they're really good. They're incredibly good. Uh, next, next question from you. Have you ever wanted to live in a world from a game? If so, which one and why? Hmm. I don't think so. Actually, some of them are really nice to explore.
00:50:27
Speaker
Um, and they're, they're really friendly or cool, but I haven't gotten that kind of like end of a book feeling where it's like, I'm losing all of this once it's done to the same extent with a world, maybe the characters went on a world. So I think, no, I think the answer is actually no. Um, and also if you picked one of these, you can't play games in the others, right? Like video games exist in our world. Uh, what's your answer?
00:50:54
Speaker
Well, now I'm gonna change my answer to no. I'm gonna copy your answer because I also didn't have a good example in first place. Uh-huh. But yeah, it's similar to your reasoning. There's not like a whole world I could see myself going into because usually a lot of them are just terribly dark and terrible. So you're just struggling to get by. I was like, eh, maybe not for me so much.
00:51:20
Speaker
That's the problem. You like souls. Like we like Dark Souls games. No one wants to live in the Dark Souls world. It's categorically terrible. How about, how about fable before your grandmother dies? Ah, okay. Yeah. Yeah. You say chicken chaser forever. Um, yeah. Um, did I ask that question? I think I did. No, you did. No, I did. Someone did take the next question, Dave.
00:51:52
Speaker
Already lost my place. It's gonna be video game character. Do you most wish you were like oh This is a good time to hide on the psychopath now Now character I most wish I was like oh
00:52:15
Speaker
Hmm. I mean I am gonna kind of cop out on this one and go back to Mass Effect. I really like Morden from Mass Effect, the scientist Salarian. Excellent character, instantly witty, like hilarious. Obviously he was written as a character by humans, but if he was an actual person then he would be the center of every party essentially.
00:52:38
Speaker
also very short lifespan no risk of it ever getting too heavy in and out that's freaking done um can't overstay you're welcome what about for you uh panicking not sure not sure ronnie i want to be a doll
00:53:07
Speaker
You can skip to or I could answer. Oh, I'll take an answer and see what you can. All right. And then shoot that Isaac from binding of eyes. I want to have a tense relationship with my mom. My quick answer, based on some recently played, is Madeline from Celeste or that's a from Celeste. Those are two good answers. Yeah.
00:53:36
Speaker
There's two characters who are working through their ship and Theo is just very cool, calm and collected. And while I often come up that way, because my voice is so deep and charming. That is usually not what's running around with like the Hampshire wheel inside my brain. It's just I don't externalize a lot of stuff. Yeah, that's fair. They're very introspective characters, too, which I think is good.
00:54:04
Speaker
Let's see, so next one's definitely mine. What's the game you've spent the most amount of money on? Dota 2, you don't even have to look. I don't think anything else I play really has...
00:54:19
Speaker
Loot boxes are paid stuff. I know I've paid some money in other games like Magic at the Gathering Arena probably overwatch at a point Maybe even Hearthstone at a point But I mean that spent the most time with Dota 2. I definitely put some money into it over time. Mm-hmm
00:54:37
Speaker
I think it's Hearthstone. Yeah, not like there. Yeah, that was that was the trick. I got into that sort of like, I'm going to keep buying packs to make sure I get like the full set thing. And no, no, that's that's how you lose all your money. I distinctly remember buyer's remorse at one point when I spent significantly over 100. It might have been 200 bucks. And I was like,
00:55:03
Speaker
It doesn't actually even matter what they give me at this point. I'm not going to feel good about it. Yeah, and that's when you know it's too much. So I think it was Hearthstone. Dota or Overwatch would be second, I think. I used to buy a good chunk of, like, throw 50 bucks at a bunch of loot boxes and Overwatch for a big event or something. But I didn't do it every time. It was pretty infrequent.
00:55:26
Speaker
I would love for you to show you where all your money went to. I mean a lot of the platforms will, I just don't want to see that. If you could have one power of any video game character, who would it be? What? No, no, no, that's dumb.
00:55:44
Speaker
If you could have any power, what would the power be? This is just the super hero power. I assume we're excluding the wish for infinite wishes ability to grant powers because that's I'm going to say it has to be something that's kind of innate to the character you can get in the game. So like an elder ring, you can get different types of magic. I'll knock you out of that. Or if a character has like a built in ability, you can cast magic as an elder ring or something like that.
00:56:16
Speaker
Mmm Man okay, I'm gonna go back to arcane because it's on my my brain arcane on the brain and outsiders mark and In dishonored actually is really cool. It's definitely cooler than what they did with death loop powers, so There's a bunch of ridiculous nonsense you can do with that and rats are only the start. What about you?
00:56:42
Speaker
Oh, run a rough answer before you answer. Braids pocket watch. Okay, now your turn. That would be cool.
00:56:52
Speaker
I was also thinking something along the lines of, like, rats that cover up corpses. I'm like, when do I use that day to day? When am I leaving bodies around? But the thought did enter my... It's a TV ad. It's like, no more pesky corpses with the power from beyond. You too can have a clean kitchen. Oh, my gosh.
00:57:15
Speaker
It eats all the crumbs from my leftovers, also the guests I head over. What about for you though?
00:57:31
Speaker
I can answer for you d6 from Isaac You enter a room. You don't like the configuration roll the die Run it back run it back you into a party. There's people there. You don't like roll the die Those people don't exist anymore Actually like this as it has expounded upon the idea and
00:58:01
Speaker
trying to think power wise, cause I'm not usually too focused on powers and things outside of the context of the game. Yeah. If a game is well designed, you almost don't think about this, right? Like there's even Bioshock, it's just like, it kind of exists in the universe, right? Superhero games, you know, might influence it a little bit more. Prototype become anyone, assume their memory is infamous, you shoot lightning, whatever. But I mean, like otherwise it's just part of the game, right?
00:58:32
Speaker
Yeah. I hate to do this, but I'm actually going to pass on this one. Um, I don't have anything in the pocket. All right. If you hear a random outburst of me saying a magical word later, it might be me circling back to that. So, uh-huh. That's fair. Uh, next question is yours.
00:58:52
Speaker
Who do you usually choose as your fighter in Super Smash Brothers slash Soul Calibur slash three fighter, et cetera? Who's your go-to fighter basically? I mean you can disregard whichever fighter you most play For any of these games. Okay, as long as it's the full set of games that you listed I mean right now it's Kazuya
00:59:11
Speaker
for Smash, obviously. And I'll just leave it at Smash. Well, I mean, from this list, I mean, it's the only game he's in. Obviously, I've been a big fan for a long time. Oh, okay. There is actually a such video, right?
00:59:28
Speaker
Okay, well I mean if we're including that freaking knockoff, Platform Fighter, Smash City or whatever it's called. Whatever that was. Knockout City. I can't remember any of the names. Knockout City. I was like, it's no way it was smashed. That would have been a little too on the news. But yeah, probably Kazi and Ultimate. What about you?
00:59:50
Speaker
If it's ultimate, Falcon's still really high up there for me. It's just, I can always pick him up and just have a good time and just play quick and have some really powerful moves, which I like. If it's Soul Calibur.
01:00:05
Speaker
I've really been kind of forced to play a lot of Astaroth. And he's just so cool. He's one of those characters who's like, hey, this is a fighting game where everybody has weapons, pretty much. And he just has some insane range. And people are like, oh, we'll watch him to get in. And I'm like, but what if I didn't let you get in? Right, yeah. And just being able to abuse some of that is really fun. I was a fan of him. He's cool.
01:00:34
Speaker
Yeah, that's a more hard for fighter to answer. No, no, it does. We played some characters that are in Street Fighter because they're also in Smash, but not even then, not generally, right? Yeah. Coming in at 37. Skip down to 39. That's true. Unless you are 37 or 38. Okay. Wow. Actually, no, I have to ask.
01:01:00
Speaker
I'm not going to ask for 38. I'm just going to mention what the question is and then make the joke or the reference here. What are you hoping for at the next E3? E3 is canceled forever, so good luck on that question. I don't think E3 is coming back. It's a little thing that's developed between now and the last episode. I guess we'll see, but definitely was canceled this year.
01:01:27
Speaker
39 now, what is your favorite villain from a video game and why? I'm not trying to remember villains from video games Time with the answers, please please please please a really good one I think it would be a popular answer is handsome Jack in border lanes Just charisma out the wazoo Great dialogue
01:01:54
Speaker
boss fight didn't really matter because you know everything leading up to it was just well developed or to go back and spoil braid the protagonist especially if it's the coolest villain
01:02:13
Speaker
I will steal that answer and not apply it to a specific game. So I don't want to spoil anything. It's also been out for like a million years. There are other games like Braid in that you basically find out that your character is not. I know what you're talking about, too. So this one, like, I like those moments. That's a really good answer. You're like, I don't know what's going on. Oh, oh.
01:02:43
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Honestly, I have like at least three games where that does apply so that's usually I like that the most where you are the villain I'm sure there actually is a good Canonically written villain, but it's just not popping up my brain this quick quick scroll Yeah
01:03:00
Speaker
I mean shit no I Mean yeah, that's that's also fair. I mean I would accept dr. Robotnik instead of a command, but that's all right You got our questions you want to ask one more? Finish finish us out on a definitive final question Okay, I don't know if you have to go all the way down the list we got it We got to save this this is content. It's a very very fairly good list I

I also like that there's, while you're looking, that there's ads on this page like, how to talk to a gamer. Like, the gamer is your kids, and this is an ad from the 90s. It definitely feels like, hey, do you not know how to engage with people? Here's some questions. Do your kids play video dash games?

If you want to talk to me, but you're nervous, just bring up one of these and I just won't shut the fuck up. So I will, I will end with question. Hey, I will end with question 40 here. What is your favorite game from your childhood? Okay. Really reaching ahead here to literally the next question. That's fair. Uh, favorite game from my childhood. Hmm.

I haven't played many that stuck around since childhood to be honest. Games have gotten better since then. I guess I'll probably say Age of Empires.

Um, solid is it's a fun game. I like RTS. What about you? I'm going to pick a better RTS and say Starcraft. Um, that's fair. I didn't, I didn't really play a lot until two. I played a lot of that growing up and that was one of the few games I remember playing, not with my dad, like competitively, but like we would take turns, um, in campaign.

And that was one of the few games that we actually played together, so I always have a fun memory of that there. I can't get him to play games anymore. He's just like... Maybe if I, like, tie him down in front of my computer, I'm like, play this. He would actually check something out. Oh, that's a fair answer.

Um, I did buy overload and I was, I was playing, it basically is descent. Like it's just so much better. Like if you look at them side by side, descent is trash fire. It's a DOS game. I can't emphasize that enough. Yeah. That's fair. Um,

that I answered this one. Yeah, I did Age of Empires. We're good. That's it. That's the full list of questions that we're using today. Look forward to us going through the rest of this. It only goes to 50. We made it up to 40. That's not enough content, Dave. There's going to be a subtraction in the future. There's got to be. We'll ask Chat GPT to generate a list of questions to ask us. I don't know.

Don't put it in your URL like that, though. That's not gonna help at all. It's in the description. You'll find it. It's fine. We might be Googleable at this point. I don't know. Don't Google S. It's probably not safe. We have to spend a lot more money for that. How do I buy soap walls stoned? Oh, no. Our SEO is absolutely terrible.
