Introduction & Episode Focus

00:00:42
Speaker
How's it going, everyone? Welcome to another episode of Soapstone. My name is Jake. I'm joined by my co-host, as always, Dave. How's it going today, Dave? Oh, my God, he did it. Oh, geez. Oh, okay. I can't take it back.
00:00:54
Speaker
Short answer. Let's keep it. We'll we'll keep it concise.

Why Recommend Deltarune?

00:00:56
Speaker
It's going fine, I guess. Cool. ah So today, we're going be talking about Deltarune, little indie number, um doing the rounds this this this month, this year.
00:01:12
Speaker
specifically Chapter 5, but also probably things leading up to Chapter 5, if it helps contextualize what's going on here. We'll tell you up front, we're going full spoilers on this, because ah we really have talked about Deltarune, I would say, what, would you say like four times, maybe, maybe in the past, give or take? If not more. If not more, yeah. um And so at this point, if you haven't played it, what would you say? What's your recommendation? Thumbs up, thumbs down.
00:01:42
Speaker
I would always say thumbs up. um Obviously, see if it's your jam, but I think if you liked Undertale or you just like find it it little bit to be a little bit whimsical, all of it's pretty consistent in that.

Themes & Continuation from Undertale

00:01:59
Speaker
Yeah. I definitely agree for these types of games. For for Delta Root in particular, it's just... um it really just builds upon everything that Undertale had set.
00:02:12
Speaker
It's more, it's more, and to be honest, visually, ah you know, music wise characters, all of that jazz really just a natural continuation um for the, the Toby Fox experience. So also recommend it. And I can officially say that, you know, as of five chapters, um this is a lot of content. If you haven't picked it up yet,
00:02:37
Speaker
um i think it's pretty much worth it even if we're still waiting for another couple chapters to come out yeah i forget how much it is like 20 to 30. i feel like it's i feel like it's 20. i'm not sure exactly but it's very inexpensive for the game time you get now compared to when it came out then it was a little bit more borderline you know maybe 10 hours eventually like 20 hours now it's like There's probably like 40 hours of gameplay and across all the chapters, maybe more actually.
00:03:12
Speaker
um so i don't know definitely worth it. But yeah, this is the last opportunity. Basically we're to spoil dang near everything ah that we talk about.
00:03:24
Speaker
um So cool. Thanks for listening up to this point and come back and hear our impressions. Once you play the game.

Character Relationships & Adventure Vibe

00:03:33
Speaker
All right. Now those people are gone.
00:03:36
Speaker
Freaking Delta run, though? What have we you even been doing? Chapter 5, what are we doing, Dave? I'll be honest, I don't know. yeah i have several theories. I've watched some videos.
00:03:49
Speaker
um but I really don't know fully what's going on. I do know that in like my heart of hearts, there's still a part of me that's like, this is a prequel to Undertale because it's using certain things that we've seen used in Undertale.
00:04:08
Speaker
Yes. Such as like the flower attack patterns. You're like, interesting. Each one of those ties to one of the souls from Undertale type thing.
00:04:19
Speaker
Um, And I think Toby Fox has gone on a record saying that, like, hey, don't assume that that's what it is. Like, it's a separate thing. And Delta is kind of reality.
00:04:33
Speaker
Yeah. Kind of what I wanted to make. initially but i didn't have the budget to do everything that he had envisioned um so undertale is the proof of concepts which uh proved proved the concept yes and also made toby fox a very rich fox um but i guess overall for the story up to this point. We're still going around sealing dark fountains, engaging in distinct adventures. Although this one is focused a lot more on like Susie and Noel and like a festival, um, which is pretty cool.
00:05:14
Speaker
I did note like when I was playing it that, um, You have options to either encourage like Susie and Noel to go on rides and things like that. Or you can be like, oh, I'll just jump in the middle. It's just it's just Chris and whoever.
00:05:30
Speaker
um I didn't do that at all. So I don't know what the results are. If you do.

Connections Between Deltarune & Undertale

00:05:36
Speaker
Um, but that's not very happy. It's not, you're not being a great wingman in that situation because these two characters have ah an interest in each other.
00:05:46
Speaker
I think it's crazy not to instinctively play the wingman thing because you're not a voiced character at all. Yeah. Um, and you know that they both like each other too. Mm-hmm.
00:06:00
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's definitely kind of like a different vibe compared to some of the previous chapters, which set you up in, I'm not going to say like Isekai. That's not like the correct setup exactly. But they're distinct adventures where it's like, all right, you have entered the adventuring phase. That takes a little bit longer to get into it in this chapter. Like the opening portion doesn't have anything to do with the the other flowers.
00:06:26
Speaker
um or you know what's going on with Asgore and all of that. They literally just spend some time doing the character building here, which is nice. I appreciate that. yeah it To me, it really feels like they are kind of buttering up the audience, where it's like, hey, here's this like really sweet intro, and the idea of like,
00:06:49
Speaker
uh two young people falling in love and just the the sweetness of that everything is very like sunset themed as well um and all this stuff is like really working out for them they're having fun at the festival yeah and uh then noelle gets called that uh her dad has he's being a clumsy gus uh-huh yeah um and then like around the same time is like when you actually get it's right after that uh the the dark world is open the portal is open right like because you don't you don't meet back up with noel do you
00:07:33
Speaker
So after like Susie and Noel are hanging out while Carissa's just passed out on a a Rita's bench. Shout out.
00:07:44
Speaker
And then Noel gets the call and needs to run off. Susie comes back with ice cream and is like, hey, where'd Noel go? right And then they walk by and I think Susie's like kind of speaking out into space, looking away from Chris and Chris kind of sneaks around and just stabs the hole and then like comes back like, Hey, uh,

Chris's Actions & Narrative Tension

00:08:11
Speaker
Yeah, I think this is... i know we're doing like a high level of like what occurs in this one. Because ultimately this leads to the adventure. Noelle's not in the dark world for this one.
00:08:24
Speaker
um It's just Ralsei, Susie, and Chris. um by it does build upon a lot of the things that have happened in the past in like interesting ways.
00:08:38
Speaker
Like, and this is, this is the why reason we got to like reference what's going on across like the series up to this point. Cause like Toby Fox, he hit us with the, that didn't mean what you, what you thought it meant, did it? Right. Like, so there are various times where Chris,
00:08:55
Speaker
um will take out a knife. And I'm going to differentiate between like Chris and player actions, which are like the soul, that you can use to control Chris when he has the red heart, right the soul.
00:09:08
Speaker
um There are times where Chris himself has like acted like a zombie and he's been shuffling around without the soul or he'll like take a knife out and it's like, oh, is he going to like stab his friends? What's he going to do? It looks very ominous.
00:09:22
Speaker
Something I should say now that I feel like I should have clocked earlier because Chris is the vessel. I think that like when obviously when the soul is in there, we are playing Chris.
00:09:37
Speaker
Right. But I think that when we are not in Chris, I think the knight is in Chris. Okay. Yeah, this is this is the interesting thing. This is where it gets into theory a little bit, right? Because what we know as of chapter five, and it's definitely been alluded to in the past, and I know the community's believed it for a while, but like Chris is 100%
00:10:00
Speaker
creating their dark fountains is creating dark fountains around the time the the the town and then with the soul controlling him works with his friends to close the dark fountains which seems very not uh contradictory but like the soul's motives and chris's motives may not be aligned depending on they're at odds um but i think it doesn't even out because i think that each time well obviously now

Lore Speculation: Asgore & Ralsei

00:10:36
Speaker
with like the night just like taking people yeah um
00:10:41
Speaker
But I think they are getting, they being the vague dark knight and whoever's on that side. Yeah, I've heard it called the roaring group chat. oh is Is Chris part of the roaring group chat?
00:10:58
Speaker
Well, I mean, Chris, or at least the vessel is involved. um The mom, Noelle's mom is involved. Mm-hmm. Asgore was definitely involved in some inciting incident.
00:11:12
Speaker
Yeah, in the past. he had some we've We've learned he has knowledge about the Dark Fountains, at least. Yes. Yeah. um Because something happened. That's the other thing that kind of comes out here.
00:11:26
Speaker
um Like the flowers ah that you interact with. And we're jumping all over the place. Hopefully ah you guys have played the game. You know what we're talking about. But the flowers, um they were all part of the bouquet at the wedding for Asgore and Toriel.
00:11:43
Speaker
um But something happened. And like that was called off. And he's kept all of the flowers in these... In the same actual protective containers as Undertale, right?
00:11:59
Speaker
um For the protective containers, I think yes. um But they did get married and have kids. Oh yeah, Azrael, you're right. um He just kept taking care of the flowers because...
00:12:15
Speaker
I think he likes flowers and that's why he got into floristry. Yeah. But something happened at some point later in the dark fountains, presumably, and something happened that caused the the breakup.
00:12:27
Speaker
um And so now the flowers mean more to him because it's a reminder of this, ah you know, happy time. um Also worth noting, there's a lot of corollaries here. This is the reason that like Toby Fox is kind of like, he's playing both sides here where he's like, Hey, it's an alternate universe.
00:12:45
Speaker
And you're like, cool. Like, why are the flowers the same colors and the number of the human souls in Undertale? What's that about? Like, that seems a little bit suspicious. And like, I read a comment that was like, okay, now that we've actually like, um interacted with the flowers in the dark world, um we actually know the personalities for all of the human souls in Undertale. I'm like, I mean, that's kind of maybe a little bit of a stretch, but also like,
00:13:14
Speaker
Maybe like, I don't know. And that's the issue, right? Some of these things aren't necessarily confirmed, but the correlation is already so strong or it's very clearly like a one to one that you're like, yeah, maybe green

Narrative Complexity & Fan Theories

00:13:26
Speaker
was really interested in helping people and cooking. And that was the human personality and undertale. We don't know. It doesn't matter in undertale. Right. But a yeah, i yeah, it's really hard to treat them as completely separate entities. Mm hmm.
00:13:43
Speaker
partially because the fan community exists yeah well i mean the the other thing is toby fox is like literally drawing them in he's like oh these are completely separate things as he continues to like push them together to smooch right it's like that is he's playing both sides You remember Sans Undertale.
00:14:03
Speaker
yeah or Yeah, exactly. Sans being Dimension Traveler. There's a literally a part in this chapter where you're like you can just go screen by screen and he's just in two different places like at the same time.
00:14:16
Speaker
um You're like, oh, it's Sans. Yeah, it's just exactly what what he could do. Why not? um ah Another thing that stood out to me is ah some cutscene in the latter half of the game.
00:14:32
Speaker
Asgore, I think, is looking back and remembering... the first dark fountain incidents, or he starts talking about a little bit and the music goes somber, but it starts playing Bergen trucking, which is his theme from undertale.
00:14:50
Speaker
And then he's wearing the same armor. Um, yeah. So again, it could just be, it's reusing stuff because it, people already associate that stuff with that character. Yeah.
00:15:04
Speaker
Um, it could also It could be the leot motifs, right? like That's something we learned from Undertale. Reuse the same leot motifs throughout the like entire story for characters and music and anything like that to like build a sense of familiarity and cause consistency.
00:15:21
Speaker
But when you have a fan base that's willing to believe on a dime, they will flip in a moment. um If they think that somehow this is a prequel to Undertale, you got to be careful with that. Like people are going to believe it.
00:15:33
Speaker
Good luck convincing them otherwise. um but Yeah, the the overall story is is one of the things I appreciate about this chapter is they do like...
00:15:45
Speaker
And some people disagree with me on this, but like they do outright confirm a lot of things that were kind of implied in the previous chapters about like character affiliations. If there was any doubt in your mind that Chris was creating the Dark Fountains, it's explicit now. um If there was any doubt in your mind on like the different routes that ah Chris and the soul are opposed, especially on weird route.
00:16:10
Speaker
This will wrap it up for you. Like, that's very much locked in. They're on opposite sides. ah You know, Noel and Susie, all of that development's really good.
00:16:23
Speaker
um i there is we haven't mentioned flowery at all but do you want to describe the intro for flowery

The 'Weird Route' & Chris's Influence

00:16:32
Speaker
flowery who if you're just listening to what we've been describing you now think of it like oh flowery yeah we had the same thought um He's first introduced with like an anime intro and he has like suave pretty boy hair and he has like a jacket kind of thrown over his shoulder. yeah um It's also a full anime. Like this isn't like a budget anime thing. Like you would expect it to be ripped from any anime that's out right now.
00:17:07
Speaker
It's hilarious. Then it goes back to Sprite. Then it goes back to Sprite. Yeah, exactly. but ah he's still animated really well. And as I've said before, with Tenna from, was about to say Soul Calibur 3, from Chapter 3. They're in the same universe.
00:17:28
Speaker
Allegedly. It's like, how are they going to keep subverting my expectations for having an antagonist that's interesting without like kind of stepping on the toes of something they've already done? Yeah. And.
00:17:45
Speaker
Yeah, it's just they did it again, damn it. Flowery is like super friendly, like over the top friendly and has lots of voice lines, a good half of which are like broken or they just sound fucked up.
00:18:03
Speaker
One of my favorites, I think, is mysterious wins uh-huh yeah because it's kind of it's it's a callback to some older rpgs where they would have few voice lines but they would like reuse them throughout the text of what a character is saying to kind of like represent the tone of it but they undercut that or i should say they subvert that trope but occasionally he'll just say something and it's like it's just kind of like a one off voice line or it's super ominous or it aligns directly. And you're like, it gets it it becomes uncomfortable in a game where you're used to just reading all of the text while there's just like a classic like RPG blips denoting the person's voice um to just hear like, oh, they just actually said this. Right.
00:18:50
Speaker
It's kind of another way of being uncanny that the series is really good at. um You mentioned to like the personality for Flowery though, and that's kind of like one of the the most the biggest accomplishments to me is like this is really the first time that I can recall You can make like fully justifiable, a fully justifiable case that the protagonists are not the good guys. And what is going on?
00:19:22
Speaker
Flowery even isn't opposed to you. Like for any reason to be opposed to you, he just doesn't want you to hurt Asgore who he thinks that he is helping by keeping him here in the dark world.
00:19:36
Speaker
And, you know, Giving him what he needs, you know, going to the diner, all this other stuff, basically feeding his nostalgia. And we would say maybe like kind of trapping him in an illusion and a dream to use the own games terminology.
00:19:49
Speaker
But like, Also, just giving him stuff that he hasn't had since basically in the real world, Asgore is the like estranged dad who never got off never got over his previous relationship and is kind of like awkward. you know like you know That's kind of his vibe in the overworld. But here, it feels like he's important. He's being pampered. He's figuring stuff out.
00:20:18
Speaker
um Yeah, I think from whatever that inciting incident was, um He thinks that there's foul play involving the Dark Fountain.

Ralsei's True Nature & Character Dynamics

00:20:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:29
Speaker
But I think whatever he experienced or saw, nobody else did. And he couldn't let it go and kind of just estranged himself from everybody.
00:20:43
Speaker
yeah They kind of play the pronoun game a little bit. They don't let you know exactly what the experience was. But there's this implication that some of the misfortunes in his life have been caused by this event, at least to him.
00:20:57
Speaker
Other people seem to believe that he himself caused all of these things to happen. But he's like, no, no, it was it was the Dark Fountain, right? It was the whatever this this force was.
00:21:09
Speaker
um Which leads to a lot of like unknown questions. Because if you know the Dark Fountains caused whatever this issue was or whatever this thing was for Asgore, why is Chris going around creating them Right.
00:21:25
Speaker
um Why does Chris and we all have to talk about the shelter at some point, but like why does Chris want to keep the soul away from the shelter at like all all costs?
00:21:37
Speaker
um and And we know there's a dark fountain there as well. Yeah, because they keep talking about some like, black sea or large black sea-like entity under the... Under the town, right?
00:21:57
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of interesting theories around it. But, like, right now it's not really clear... Like the the game doesn't have as far as Chris and the soul, a like dedicated good guy.
00:22:12
Speaker
It's like, you don't really know what Chris is trying to accomplish. I think at least how it's presented, we are led to believe that it is a bad thing. Right.
00:22:26
Speaker
Yeah. Because ah dark fountains will bring about the roaring, which will bring about the end of the story. hmm. which might just be the game ending, depending how metal we want to get with that.
00:22:43
Speaker
But yeah, there's like there's so much evidence for us to look at at this point. So before, people were like, oh, is Chris in um in cahoots with the Roaring Knight? And I missed some stuff from our previous episode that I caught it in basically preparation for this one, where like, um if you fight the Roaring Knight, I don't know if we called this out or not, and I think it's chapter four.
00:23:06
Speaker
um If you fight the Roaring Knight and you no-hit it, which is... insane you avoid like all of its attacks um or maybe it's all the attacks in the last move I'm not 100% sure there's like a special line in ah of text in the battle where like Chris will like um cough and the roaring knight like tilts his head and that only happens if you literally like no hit that a special move that the roaring knight will will use against you
00:23:40
Speaker
um which implies that Chris themselves, not the soul, and the Roaring Knight are like clearly working together. There's other evidence for this. In that fight, apparently Chris deals less damage to the Roaring Knight than the rest of the party, and it just goes up throughout the fight.
00:23:58
Speaker
And then the roaring knight can swoon or incap incapacitate anyone in the party, except for Chris, who he will never swoon, apparently.

Complex Relationships: Chris & Asriel

00:24:09
Speaker
um And that's just like, i don't know. There's so much that's like, okay, Chris himself, irrespective of the soul, is pretty clearly aligned with the roaring knight's plan at this point. Yeah.
00:24:25
Speaker
Which is hard to justify if it means that the story is going end, right? does Is that like... What's going on there, right?
00:24:36
Speaker
It's because I've played Tunic, it's now poisoned my mind a little bit to think maybe like somebody knows that this all is a meta experience. Ralsei, who through this chapter... yeah um Has also been more concretely stated as like.
00:24:59
Speaker
Has powers. And like the ability to do stuff. um And he just chooses not to. Yeah. Like seemingly at will can just. Pull fire out of like thin air and stuff like in abilities that you don't get to use throughout the game. He just walks you through a puzzle at one point too. He's like oh we actually didn't need to do the puzzles. Flowery will call him out on it.
00:25:20
Speaker
And it's just like. Like. You're the one that's pretending, basically. like You have the power to do all of this, and you just choose not to. and Ralsei actually gets... He's kind of a jerk across the the the game to like the flowers, this chapter in particular. like He's usually very passive and nice and honestly like ah sickly, sweetly naive and stuff like that. And this time he's just like...
00:25:51
Speaker
There are some bad vibes between him and the flowers. um I'm going to question you on that. Him and the flowers, plural? Or just flowery? it's at least he's He's like a jerk to Orange. Let me try to find it. I'll try to get a quote while you time. I know um Orange felt very teased.
00:26:10
Speaker
I know Ralsei definitely had some teasing lines.
00:26:17
Speaker
Yeah, I was trying to find...
00:26:21
Speaker
uh, exactly where the evidence was for this. Um, but basically, yeah, there's a lot of teasing. There's a lot of, um There's a lot of there are times where Susie is back actually kind of like trying to bring Calm Raul say down a little bit to to minimize the teasing and orange is also like just for your guys's awareness basically like a Joey like a baby kangaroo essentially Is what is sprite looks like to me. ah thought it's just like a mouse.
00:26:56
Speaker
It could be mouse. so They're very similar I guess um But with I think it's is it the boxing gloves? Is that the reason I have that association? I think it is.
00:27:09
Speaker
I would track. But yeah, the mouse eats cheese at some point. Uh-huh.
00:27:16
Speaker
Unfortunately, I've searched for this and now it's just like so much oh ah fan content and theories and stuff like that. It's impossible to escape it. But regardless, yeah.
00:27:28
Speaker
People's character traits are really coming out in V, I would say. And at the very least, like, Raw Say hasn't been... ah completely honest in representing how the dark fountains work and their own capabilities because they like you said um they had they they had the ability to overcome all these obstacles they could have done them at any time flowery literally talks about how he just maxed out all his stats he's just like yeah we could do that why why wouldn't you do that you could just have max stats um and if they had these kind of controls over the fountains then that would mean that ralsei is kind of like
00:28:09
Speaker
put on the ankle weights essentially ah just to continue to have an adventure with the lightners in the party.

Potential Plot Twists & Speculations

00:28:21
Speaker
And it's interesting. I still don't know their motivation entirely.
00:28:27
Speaker
i will say um at least in one scene I remember from watching you play because you played after I did so I got to experience it twice.
00:28:38
Speaker
um when you're first like trying to go after score, cause he gets pulled into the dark world cause it's at the flower shop. Yeah. Chris directly actually causes score to go to the dark world.
00:28:52
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But as you're encountering flowery, he's keeping you away from score. um And the one where like as score like actually comes out and he's like, you know what? Like you guys are like,
00:29:08
Speaker
Get out of here. i don't want you here. Mm-hmm. He pushes only Chris and Susie into the portal to go back to the light world. Right.
00:29:19
Speaker
And we're also just kind of like dips into a bush but like before that happens. Oh, I didn't like they don't want to be recognized by score.
00:29:30
Speaker
Yeah. That is interesting because, I mean, we got to we got to address the the the my acronym. It's not homonym either. Rearranging of letters to say a different word.
00:29:45
Speaker
um There's a word for that and I've forgotten what it is. But remembering either at the moment. Yeah. We're all say is ah the same letters is as Asriel.
00:29:56
Speaker
Right. um And there have been several comparisons where like, I think Susie, when visiting your house, like will remark on a picture on the fridge. And it's like, why do you have a picture of Ralsei on your fridge? And then looks closer. And one, Chris themselves, not the player choosing a response. It's just like like, that's not Ralsei, like Azrael or whatever. They seem like indignant almost. Like they they really want to clarify that. um
00:30:29
Speaker
their brother, Asriel, is a completely different person. And Chris has an interesting relationship with Asriel, I should also say. i would like to...
00:30:42
Speaker
I'm going to finish your thing. I don't want to postulize a theory. Sure. Yeah. ah So Chris's relationship with Asriel through the game is one where um sometimes Chris will actually exert willpower to force the soul not to do something.
00:31:01
Speaker
And these are oftentimes like in their own personal bedroom where they have like a separate bed on the opposite side of the room that's like Asriel's space. And it's like, if you go to like, ah look at Asriel's things, Chris will stop you a lot of the times.
00:31:16
Speaker
And we'll just say like, there's no reason to do that. It's like, it's basically like executive override. You cannot do this. um And there's a couple of times this comes up with regards to like the family.
00:31:28
Speaker
If you're in the police station and you're learning about the fact that Asgore was on the force, as soon as that line comes up, it's followed by these lines of text. Like there's nothing interesting to read here.
00:31:42
Speaker
It just Chris literally is censoring stuff basically. So the soul can't learn it, but especially around Asriel.
00:31:54
Speaker
A part of me wonders if... Because they said that... ram Yep, that sounds right. Which is an anagram for... Namarga?
00:32:08
Speaker
That could be right. Namarga sounds like a Godzilla opponent.
00:32:18
Speaker
But anyway, um yeah I think Asriel has been cited as being at college. Yes, yeah away at college.
00:32:29
Speaker
Because a part of me is like, what if something happened to Asriel and Des at the same time? Because they were interested in each other too. Yeah, I think they were dating-ish.
00:32:44
Speaker
um Like, what if they were in, like, an accident all that time ago? And because we know from Chapter 4 that, like, an object of someone who is dead in the dark world can actually kind of bring them to life, in a sense.
00:33:05
Speaker
Oh, okay. I where you're going with this. Yeah. So I wonder if that's where as real exists. Right. But then I guess the question is, why would his parents be hiding that information from you as the player? Cause like you think you would, he would know.
00:33:29
Speaker
Yeah, because I guess just to fill out what you're describing is you're saying there's like a personal belonging of Asriel's is on Chris's possession. So every time that Chris would go to the Dark World, Ralsei would be there.
00:33:42
Speaker
Well, there was one piece of evidence that kind of like undercuts this a little bit. which is It's the end of Chapter 5, which is where Susie goes to the Dark World to start preparing a place for Noelle.
00:33:54
Speaker
But Ralsei is still there while Chris isn't. And that complicates everything because we don't actually know like where Ralsei comes from when ah all of the others are clearly objects. We don't know what Ralsei is.
00:34:11
Speaker
So there was another... i'm putting my single finger up like I'm wearing my glasses right now. I'm not. Objection. Pretend I'm pushing them up. Another thing that we learned from Chapter 5 from the secret boss fight is that uh that that character which we can name because it's me um whoever they are actually um they came into the dark world that's true they kind of came upon it and are in it uh so they are basically an outsider
00:34:51
Speaker
o You know what? What if this is I can't spoil a game. There's a very popular RPG I'm going to I would want to make a correlation to that came out a couple of years back. But what if your theory is right?
00:35:05
Speaker
And this is the the last either the soul of Asriel or like the last figments of Asriel. In the form of Ralsei, which again, everyone started out assuming, and then we've kind of like walked it back. We've gone in other directions since we got more information.

Fan Community Reactions & Future Expectations

00:35:24
Speaker
And that's the reason that Chris keeps creating the fountains. And is the reason that he doesn't want the shelter fountain to be closed. Because if all of the fountains are removed, then that's it.
00:35:36
Speaker
Like, that's it for the the dark world. Or at the very least, Chris's ability to reach it. Right. But then I guess... Going off of that, because Carol knows something and is working in cahoots with Chris.
00:35:54
Speaker
Right. But I don't think with Asgore. Right. I think Asgore from this chapter just sounds like. I have proof of this thing. yeah that I've believed for a long time. He's not. I have a belief that.
00:36:12
Speaker
carol had a similar experience to what asgore did because she's the parent of dess right who died um see i think something we also thought i think last time like dess was the roaring knight right we don't have definitive stuff but i think for all of those pieces kind of uh put together and the horns and the raise up your bat and stuff i think there's enough signs pointing to des that i'd be very surprised if it wasn't yeah for how much she's been mentioned before
00:36:59
Speaker
anything else really kind of came up. Right. Because even like back in chapter two. And I could also kind of explain the difference in in the the fight with the Roaring Knight where Desk doesn't hold back against sus Susie or the interesting thing is Ralsei. So maybe Desk and Ralsei don't know. In this theory, we're exploring this theory. Maybe they don't know their original origination.
00:37:20
Speaker
But Chris um has been close friends with Noelle for a long time and so would have known Desk. prior to her leaving, whereas Susie actually wasn't close friends with Noel until recently. In fact, there's there's an exchange in chapter five where she talks about being jealous of Chris being friends with Noel because Susie was interested in Noel.
00:37:44
Speaker
um So if you kind of extrapolate from that, Des might not have a reason to necessarily hold back against Susie, but would theoretically against Chris um if she knew him you know before becoming the Roaring Knight.
00:38:02
Speaker
Yeah, and that would explain why Carol would be in cahoots with Chris. Right. Yeah, if she knows that Des is in the Dark World.
00:38:13
Speaker
too right because if chris is trying to maintain the fountains keep the dark world accessible um what if carol knows des is there and doesn't want to lose her forever for instance so then i guess why do we think that also i like that we're just kind of exploring this yes this is for us this is for no one else yeah yeah i i like exploring fan theories um because right now they've taken Undyne and Asgore.
00:38:46
Speaker
Yeah. Both of which who are, are or were on the police force. um True. Yeah. They hate cops. that's this is this is They're the good guys. The Darkners hate cops, is all I'm saying. Darkners are the good guys. Well, I mean, maybe that's the roar maybe the roaring isn't... It says it's the end of the story, but what if it's like the creation of the underground, basically, right? It doesn't have to literally be Undertale, but what if the roaring is...
00:39:18
Speaker
like the entire so um subsumption, is that a word of the light world into the dark world. So when Chris is getting as has no problem getting we're taken to the underground because also like the roaring knight kidnaps as Gore, but doesn't try to seem to harm him.
00:39:38
Speaker
Right. He's not like the roaring knights not killing as Gore or attacking as Gore. It's literally an abduction. Yeah. And we've kind of like seen this sort of behavior.
00:39:48
Speaker
What if the roaring is just everything in the dark world? Everything in the light world is brought into the dark world. In which case, there you go. The underground from Undertale where all the monsters are.
00:40:03
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. it's It's a prequel. It's a prequel. It's a prequel. It's always been prequel. There's a part in the festival where Sans is like, hey, uh... Can you like draw yourself on this thing so I can like remember you guys by. And if you remember in Gaster's lab, there's a picture that has that exact same description.
00:40:21
Speaker
um Yeah, no, it's. There's got to be so much evidence that disproves everything we've said, but like it makes sense to me right now. um I'm fine. We've proven wrong if somebody has accurate lore.
00:40:35
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. but it's just fun to be along for the ride. Yeah, I think so. I did read a sentiment kind of in preparation for this, that there's

Storytelling Techniques Compared

00:40:45
Speaker
there a the people who are super locked in to the fan theories and they did like a lot of research between the episodes. Some of them are actually kind of disappointed in chapter five because they were like, all we got was confirmations for things that we had already deduced.
00:41:01
Speaker
Right. It's just like they've locked in theories that were already 95, 90 percent. Um, which cannot if you're if you're like super into a mystery game or something like that, if you've already figured it out, then the revelation may not hit. Right. Because you're just like, of course, I knew that.
00:41:18
Speaker
But I do think Chapter five is a very useful chapter for me because a lot of these things I hadn't locked in to the same level of confidence as these crazies in the and the Undertale community.
00:41:32
Speaker
um And it's nice. The comment I actually read that I really agreed with was like most of the lore and world building that came out of this chapter was just like the main story.
00:41:43
Speaker
Like you figure a lot of that stuff out in the main story. And you know what? For where I'm at in life. Nice. I'm glad I could complete the main story and be along for the ride instead of needing to dig for all of it.
00:41:57
Speaker
Yeah. I. So many things now. Like they'll have a review of like, oh, people didn't like this for such and such.
00:42:08
Speaker
And... I don't know if I'm just giving them a pass because I like the content or if I just think like they're being like way too picky. Like I didn't like chapter five for these reasons. right Was it a fun game? Did you have a fun time? Shut the fuck up. Like this is somebody else's game that they're making. Like you can say like, oh, if I were to do it, I might do X, Y, and Z. But like,
00:42:35
Speaker
People are actively complaining about certain things with chapter five. And I'm like, why? like Why spend the effort on that? It's kind of the duality ah the duality of man, I guess. like The things that I like about Chapter 5 are literally the same things other people would dislike.
00:42:55
Speaker
Everything I just described, it's like, oh, it's more straightforward and it's storytelling. Yeah, some people hate that. For me, awesome. But like yeah you you can't you can't appease everyone. right There are people...
00:43:06
Speaker
um They are like in our friend group. They absolutely love puzzle games. And I'm not saying this is a bad thing. this is I'm saying it is. If you like puzzle games, you are sick and you need help. What's your Talos principal hours at? I guess i would ask. I need help.
00:43:25
Speaker
But especially like deduction games, things like that, where like the very essence of those games is you are deprived of information. because the absence of information is where details flourish.
00:43:39
Speaker
It's where you're just inundated with so much useless information that there's no interest in what's being presented. So, you know, the root trees are dead, as example. Blueprints. ah ah ah Return of the Obra Den.
00:43:54
Speaker
All of these examples are like deduction type games where you you if you enjoy this, you're thriving in the absence of information and picking out details that become meaningful. There's nothing wrong with it.
00:44:05
Speaker
Chapter five was not that for the most part. Chapter five was like you are reading the book. You are watching the movie. You are seeing the mainline information directly through your eyeballs into your brain. And it's really nice. I appreciate it. Yeah. I would never consider that bad. Like I like spinoff stuff and finding things out. Like it was nice to go and watch the weird route because I definitely hadn't met whatever the fuck those conditions were for that to happen.
00:44:35
Speaker
Across chapters too. Right. Yes. So it was nice that I could just kind of peep that on YouTube. Mm-hmm. Also, if you're trying to speedrun the Weird Round, Chapter 5, not that hard.
00:44:50
Speaker
yeah uh were you surprised by that by like the structure of the weird route for for five or what happened how how things played out what transpired in five yeah i guess just to briefly recap the weird route the weird route is doing very specific things through these chapters oftentimes to the point where you're almost requiring a guide um in order to basically be, most of the time, the bad guy. Like, at the very least, very manipulative of your friends, but also the bad guy. um
00:45:27
Speaker
And yeah, so chapter five, I'm less familiar with the early part, but i'm more familiar with the latter part. um basically culminates in i Noel choosing, like basically admitting to you that your abuses of power and exertion of influence over her to make her cast Snowgrave in Chapter 2 and all this other stuff um is when she feels powerful, more powerful than she's ever felt, and she wants you to do it more.
00:46:02
Speaker
She's basically like, this isn't the... um ah Stockholm Syndrome or anything like that. But it's something adjacent to it. It's like she's she's basically becoming corrupted by ah the power that the soul is exerting over her.
00:46:19
Speaker
um And she she all I think she also explicitly mentions that like she acknowledges that Chris has changed, that this is not Chris in Chapter 5. At least not the Chris that she knew.
00:46:32
Speaker
Yeah, because I think at this point in the story, if you've been following that route, Chris does a lot of very un-Chris things. um Thorn Ring and the manipulation, loss of agency we've talked about in the past.
00:46:48
Speaker
um Frozen chicken dinner. yeah
00:46:54
Speaker
Yeah. um But yeah, it's just like
00:47:03
Speaker
She's like, hey, like let's test it or something. Yeah. And like let's go to the other side of the the lake. And then you keep going out into the water. And then you keep getting lower and lower as like your feet can't touch the bottom. Yeah, telling her to proceed, right? Back into the water.
00:47:23
Speaker
And Chris is with her, it's worth to mention. like She's holding his hand, basically pulling him into the water with her. um And yeah, she's like, if you tell me to do it, like I can do anything.
00:47:36
Speaker
like If you told me to grow wings, like I believe it would happen. She's basically starting to see like the Well, you literally in chapter four told her to cast a spell that she didn't know how to do. She didn't know how to cast it. And she was able to.
00:47:53
Speaker
She also, notably, i don't know if this was mentioned earlier. She recalls that spell this time. In previous chapters, she was talking about how she didn't really remember what happened. It was foggy, all of of this. And in chapter five, she's like, you made me cast Snowgrave.
00:48:07
Speaker
So she knows that. that she like critically injured Birdly at this point and is still wanting you to go further with this. It's the darkest stuff, Dave. It's so freaking dark.
00:48:27
Speaker
yeah, weird root Noel clearly going off the deep end, no pun intended. ah And the crazy thing about it is not only, we didn't mention this explicitly, but... um If you continue to proceed, eventually you both it looks like you drown, right? You just get too deep on the water and the game man, Toby Fox is so good at this.
00:48:51
Speaker
But like you can continue to move the soul over to proceed and proceed and proceed basically while people are whiting out like losing consciousness, um which is it's just dark AF. um Like that's crazy.
00:49:11
Speaker
um But the last thing I was I'm sorry I was gonna say from that my instinctive thought is like I mean, they didn't kill them, obviously, right? Right. um And then after that, it shows like, oh, like, please insert chapter seven, side B. Yeah, it says Noelle will return in chapter seven, side B, which is kind of funny. It makes me think of Star Wars. but um But that's a big question, right? Because ah the next chapter is not seven, right? Like...
00:49:47
Speaker
So if you had this as a save, what are you doing when chapter six comes out? I mean, are you dead or is there no weird route connective piece? I think there's probably no weird route connected piece.
00:50:02
Speaker
yeah I think a lot of shit's just going to go down in six because they've been kind of building up and building up and building up.
00:50:15
Speaker
Is seven the final one? Seven is the final one. You've got to figure that's going to be the... This is what I'm saying, dude! It's got to be tied together.

Wrap-up & Invitation to Toby Fox

00:50:26
Speaker
It's the penultimate one. Number six is our penultimate um chapter.
00:50:31
Speaker
Yeah, I figure that seven is going to be tying up things and resolving whatever Toby wants resolve in the story versus whatever he wants to kind of leave hanging in a mystery. Yeah. um
00:50:50
Speaker
There's one other thing I wanted to add for like the interactions in the weird room. I don't know if you saw this, depending on what you looked at, but apparently um From the very first time that proceed pops up, she's like, hey, if you say the words, I can do anything. I need you to say the word.
00:51:05
Speaker
um It's like stop and proceed. And if you choose stop. She starts walking into the water anyways, and she's like, why are you acting like this? I know that you're changed.
00:51:18
Speaker
You can say stop and she's like, like ah stop pretending. like I know what you've done. I know who you are. And it keeps walking into the water. um And apparently the only way to like abort the weird route, which usually has a sound associated with it, it's like, ding, ding, whatever.
00:51:36
Speaker
And it's the sign that you're no longer on the weird route, which is good because, again, sometimes staying on the weird route is not easy to do in the previous chapters.
00:51:47
Speaker
um The only way to like abort it is to basically get deep enough in the water that you start drowning and then just choose not to do anything. In which case it like has a special sequence where she like sees all these like memories of things happening, but it's like, but it didn't matter or nothing changed.
00:52:09
Speaker
And Noelle's whole thing here is she wants to change and be powerful as part of like um the soul telling her what to do. um But it'll culminate in this message that's like, um like I must have misremembered.
00:52:23
Speaker
you know It was a dream after all. And presumably is the off-ramp from the weird route, but it's like, we don't really know anymore. um oh So, game's crazy.
00:52:38
Speaker
It is, yeah. We didn't even talk about any of the flowers. It's true. ah Did you have a favorite, least favorite, that anything stand out to you from this chapter?
00:52:49
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I really like green green. Green was fun because anytime it's like, hey, you gotta fight green flower, green flower's like, cool. Here's my attack pattern and I put a bunch of healing items in it. like Thank you, green.
00:53:06
Speaker
Yeah, it is funny how green is just consistently nice. Purple is consistently like bumbling, trying to be serious. The smart one trying to learn everything.
00:53:21
Speaker
Aqua is very carefree and liked playing with knives. I like the interaction between her and Chris. Yeah. Because they're both like kids, basically. chris is Chris is older, obviously. I think, canonically, Chris is like mid-teens or something. But...
00:53:39
Speaker
um Aqua's pretty young by comparison. Chris is short. This is literally played off in the ah like the queen interaction whatever with the ah the arcade machine. And like Chris can't reach the controls he just like collapses automatically. Delft emotional damage.
00:53:59
Speaker
Chris, Chris, crisscross applesauce. Listen. aha But yeah, I really like Aqua too. um And they're all great.
00:54:10
Speaker
Which is the point. like This is the thing Toby Fox excels at. These are all like interesting characters. you know ah The personalities, you could say, are basically like tropes. But they're still well-written.
00:54:23
Speaker
It's not like a bad thing. And it also makes sense because they were originally flowers. But all of this is like, why am I closing this dark fountain? right Why am I banishing these now people, you know sentient beings, back to being flowers?
00:54:41
Speaker
um it's harder because like you're saying they're really interesting characters yeah and I think e even Susie has hesitation about closing Dark Fountain I believe yeah yeah Ralsei is actually the one that's like kind of keeping people going in this um it's like no it like it has to be done flowery is oh then wait have to none take back part of what i said earlier because i guess as real then can't be rawl say based off of if we think chris is doing things for the sake of keeping as real alive in the dark world
00:55:31
Speaker
Well, like, Chris seems to be... Chris picks specific things to, like, specific times to override the player, and very rarely... Or the soul, I guess. And very rarely is that in front of friends.
00:55:47
Speaker
um Usually, Chris is only really capable of doing ah really strange things when no one's really watching. And it could just be because Chris doesn't want people to understand what's going on.
00:55:59
Speaker
But, like... When he creates this dark fountain, no one else is around. He like throws his soul into a trash can, goes behind the building to the back entrance and creates it since no one's watching.
00:56:12
Speaker
Reclaims the soul later. But when it comes to like closing the dark fountains, it would be like an outright visible conflict between Chris and the soul if Chris tried to stop you from closing the dark fountain.
00:56:28
Speaker
And like Ralsei's existence isn't based off of this dark fountain. Right. So Ralsei can visit this one, but closing this dark fountain doesn't hurt Ralsei. Yeah.
00:56:39
Speaker
I think it's always been interesting once we found out that like Ralsei is the only entity that's able to go between. That's true. Yeah. And the Roaring Knight, right?
00:56:53
Speaker
Because the Roaring Knight shows up in these, yeah. um With the Roaring Knight being the other person capable of creating fountains from the inside...
00:57:04
Speaker
Which is interesting also. so All this to say, i don't know what the fuck's going on. yes This is all like knowing like eyebrow wiggling and stuff like that. It's like, yeah, I'm so confused. Yeah, but it's it's a it is a fun chaos. I'm along for the ride.
00:57:24
Speaker
um i always appreciate like the little charming moments, whether it's like a weird sprite png for like suzy with like that flat so suspect expression susie's very funny and like other things like that where it's like it's relatively minor but it just it makes me smile yeah Toby Fox makes very emotive characters.
00:57:53
Speaker
like they they You really know what impression they're trying to get across in ways that like other games can struggle sometimes. The things he accomplishes with portraits and just nuance and dialogue is excellent.
00:58:09
Speaker
I don't really know how to tie this one in, but this was also interesting, so I wanted to mention it. There was a cool, it does relate to like kind of weird route stuff. I think it's specifically weird route aborted.
00:58:20
Speaker
So you needed to be on the weird route and choose to abort it at some point in the playthrough. But it's when Chris and Susie are next to like a hot tub.
00:58:32
Speaker
And Susie's like talking to Chris and um but this is where she admits that she's kind of jealous of Chris. And um ah she's like, she says something to the effect of like, but you wouldn't do anything like to, you know, get between us now.
00:58:49
Speaker
um And there are two options. Usually if you're not on aborted weird route, it's like I would never do anything to, you know, get between you and Susie or like get in the way of you.
00:59:02
Speaker
um And then like dot, dot, dot. And both of them, Susie kind of just takes as acknowledgement of her point. um Or at least, hey, a yeah you're right. I'm overthinking this.
00:59:15
Speaker
On aborted weird route, the options are, you know, I would never get in the way of you, Susie. And um don't come between me and Noelle. Yeah.
00:59:29
Speaker
Which is so messed up. So messed up at this point. Um... And it's interesting that this isn't on like the weird route proper, but you wouldn't get this far in the game if you were actually dedicated to the weird route, because congratulations, you've drowned them both. but um ah But if you go to select that option, you know, don't come between me and Noel, what happens is the dialogue starts and then Chris immediately throws himself into the hot tub, just like yeets himself, just full body,
01:00:03
Speaker
full velocity under the water instantly causing Susie to like jump back. It was like, pull him out and try to figure out what's going on. And what happens is the only word that she heard was don't.
01:00:17
Speaker
And so she's like, you're right. I'm overthinking this or whatever. But this is one of the moments where Chris is so upset about what you just tried to make him say.
01:00:30
Speaker
that he actually takes control of his own body and he resists it. I just get goosebumps right now. i literally have goosebumps just recalling the moment because it's just so cool.
01:00:43
Speaker
Yeah, it's going to interesting, the explanation on what Chris is and how that all works. He cares about his friends a lot.
01:00:57
Speaker
There was like a um a compilation. I'm not going to go through all the moments, but there's a compilation where it's like times Chris does something um irrespective of what the soul basically is telling him to do or without the soul's influence.
01:01:12
Speaker
And you kind of like learn about Chris as a person in ways that you can't um through the normal gameplay where you're just choosing these dialogue options for him. um And a lot of times it's that. It's like he he cares really deeply about his friends. He doesn't want to hurt Susie.
01:01:29
Speaker
There's times he'll like smile when Susie does something stupid. And it's not because you picked it. It's because Chris is experiencing that. Chris wanted to eat that moss.
01:01:41
Speaker
Uh-huh. There was actually, so what's really funny, you mentioned the moss early in the game. There's like a pie. i don't even remember the experience exactly. um But you can like choose to either like eat an entire pie or not.
01:01:55
Speaker
um And pretty, it was like the scene after this or later in the chapter. It's the point where like Chris is actually looking out with like red eyes. And this is kind of the early, oh what if Chris is evil and it's only the soul that's keeping him good or whatever. And then there was a comment and it was just like, no, Chris just really loves pie. He's like really upset that you didn't let him eat the entire pie.
01:02:19
Speaker
I just love that.
01:02:22
Speaker
Yeah, I wonder how many subtle things like that I might have missed along the way as far as Chris's subtle reactions. Because it's usually just a static face. Yes, right. Mouth, hair covering eyes.
01:02:38
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's interesting because like, you know, maybe these don't necessarily matter, but this is something I appreciate about the game as a whole.
01:02:49
Speaker
It's like as we learn these things, it allows us to kind of like recontextualize stuff in the past. um And you're like, oh, right. And I love that. I love that in storytelling.
01:03:01
Speaker
All right, I got a nerd out briefly. Let me bring up my YouTube history. and Because literally before we were doing this, was just dicking around some YouTube and I came across a video that was...
01:03:17
Speaker
Oh no, the worst is like when you click something, it's in a tab for a bit. You didn't watch it immediately. it puts you in a weird spot in your history. yeah But it is in with regards to...
01:03:31
Speaker
A game. i'll I'll try not to say it's still not spoiling the thing. Sure.
01:03:38
Speaker
How can I not find the thing I watched earlier today? I'm going to buy time for Dave. I'm going to make up what the name is and you can look it up later and be like, wow, that was way off, you dumbass.
01:03:51
Speaker
So I think it's called Deuterism or something, but basically for you to have an opinion on a thing, you need to have an experience.
01:04:07
Speaker
Okay. And then your other or whatever bias or assumption you have about that thing initially is based off of your other cumulative experiences you've had. But as you have more experiences, it's going to recontextualize other things because you're getting more information to influence other things.
01:04:29
Speaker
ah So it's always kind of building upon itself or kind of like. Spiraling. In. Yeah, you're recontextualizing, you know, as you get more information. Yeah.

I think that's the sign of like good storytelling um because there are plenty of stories where it's just like it's just a it's a line going into the future and there are things you learn at concrete points on these line this line and there's really no reason to ever think back to what's happened in the past.
01:05:00
Speaker
um But good storytelling is like I'm giving you information that you either might not think about a lot now or you might interpret it a certain way now.
01:05:13
Speaker
But later, I'm going to fill in a little bit more of the picture. And the way I think about this, I'm going to ah the analogy I would use is literally like Bob Ross's paintings. There are so many times he starts out and I'm like, why are you just putting poop colors on the canvas? It does not make any sense.
01:05:31
Speaker
And you're like, and then just like there either there just comes a time where you're staring at it and you're like, it's poop. It's poop. It's poop. It's a majestic mountain. What just happened? Poop mountain. Yeah, exactly. Poop mountain in all its majesty.
01:05:46
Speaker
But that's exactly it, right? You've had this, the the revelation. um The prestige. I don't know. if Yeah, the the the moment of revelation where you get to like say, ah now I understand.
01:05:59
Speaker
Love that in games. ah One example I just want to bring up, this isn't game related, but just to expound upon it. There's the one episode of Breaking Bad where it has the cold open on like a burnt teddy bear in a pool.
01:06:17
Speaker
And it has that as like a a shot for like a good 15 to 30 seconds. And you're like, fuck was that about? Yeah. And then later as the episode goes on you realize details like oh there was this plane crash that was caused by these incidents but but but but but and that's like the burnt teddy of one of the people on the plane and you were just seeing the aftermath of it up front right yeah it's the reverse Chekhov's gun it's the time traveling Chekhov's gun where it's like we gave you this man's dead when's it gonna happen what's it gonna happen a novel what's happen yeah
01:06:54
Speaker
yeah Exactly. no it's interesting. and And things like that, I think, can maintain interest in the story as well. Like, I still a lot of questions. We're pretty much at time, so we've got to, like, wrap it up. But we're at two out of the three shelter codes.
01:07:10
Speaker
Both of them partially known, but with the rest of it kind of like the community sort of inferred. Um, like the first code is probably related to December's birthday, um, like day month. And then the year is probably like 1997 or something. Look up the theories. It's fine.
01:07:29
Speaker
Um, and then if that's what we, that, that has the correct number of digits, but then the next code is the undertale release date. which is the one we get here in chapter five.
01:07:42
Speaker
And also Chris tries to rip it up. So we can't see it, but Susie catches him. i was going to say earlier, Susie is, I feel like something bad is going to happen to Susie real soon.
01:07:56
Speaker
um Because she's such like a ah sweet and sincere character and always assumes that, people are on like their best intention, like Chris specifically. And she's setting up for like Noel to come to the dark world and be a part of their adventures and not like keep her in the dark about this, uh, possibly world ending calamity. Um, and it just, it feels too much like, well, I'm getting to retire tomorrow. Uh, yeah. Last day on the forest, 50 years. Why is this show spending so much time looking at this puppy? Yeah. Like what's yeah going on? Yeah.
01:08:36
Speaker
yeah That was my last thought. um No, I agree. with then um The only thing that kind of pushes back against it is like Chris cares a lot about her. So I'm wondering that maybe this is weird root stuff for chapter seven, but Susie's the person that would try to pull Noel back from the ledge.
01:08:56
Speaker
if and you're If you're in weird root, right? Like what would, how would Susie take it if she found out that Chris was, um basically motivating Noel to drown herself in a lake, right? Like that's a conflict. That's going to the fan base, the fan base is all I'm going say, the fan base.
01:09:17
Speaker
um The thing I liked about Susie here, since we didn't spend much time talking about her in the outro, I know Dave, I know Dave, I know, but she asks you to take her home and it's like ah such a cute scene because you can choose to be like, nah, don't have time or whatever, or I have to go check something.
01:09:33
Speaker
or accept it and be like, yeah, I'll take you home. And naturally, everyone's going to be like, yeah, I'll take you home. Like, going to be a douchebag towards Susie. um But if you choose to be a douchebag towards Susie, you can walk away like Chris will like walk away.
01:09:50
Speaker
um basically being like no i have something to do he'll walk off screen and then just come back on screen with a balloon and she's like when you said you had something to do you were literally just gonna grab a balloon and then walk me home anyways and i freaking love it it's freaking like toby fox peak writing it's like nope chris would never treat suzy this way um it It is kind of fun to see like where you as the player are going to have agency versus the game or Chris. Yeah, right.
01:10:24
Speaker
And then you can try to take her to your home where she's like, that's not what I meant, but thank you. You can try to take her to an apartment, which is apparently her home, her actual home. Yeah, I had no idea where to go. i looked it up. I'm like...
01:10:38
Speaker
Where are we going? Where's home? ahha And apparently it was the school to go into the closet to get back to the the initial dark fountain town, which I'm forgetting the name of.
01:10:51
Speaker
It's just like the town or something. They just call it the town. It's like Silent Hill. Castle Town. Yeah, Castle Town. um But yeah. now it's I agree. She's...
01:11:03
Speaker
probably going to be a major character given that the outro sequence is literally her setting stuff up noel in a world where they can't really live there you know not if there's going to be a conflict that's a great place to end probably there's going to be a conflict chapter six chapter seven why do you do this to us toby why Toby get back to us back on the podcast please yes if you could just honestly before chapter six would be great just come on the podcast yeah this is the official call out so ending the podcast we're doing the outro part here um Toby Fox everybody else you guys can send in whatever you want but Toby Fox specifically you're invited on the podcast
