how the things that you are doing right now are laying the bricks for your pottery voice to come alive in the future. The things you are doing right now are literally laying the bricks down for you. A lot of the times, a lot of people don't think that they're making progress with their pottery or with trying to find their own style, their own voice, trying to make their pottery stand out in this crowded space.
Building a Foundation for Unique Pottery Voice

But the thing is, everything you are currently doing right now is laying the bricks. It's laying the bricks down for you to be able to find your own unique voice with your pottery. So you can communicate in a way that is truly more fun for you and truly brings you joy. You're communicating your own voice with your pottery.

But see, a lot of people only wanna focus on one thing. They only wanna focus on trying to find that one thing to make so that their potter really stands out so they can start selling their potters, they can start standing out from the sea of other potters. But right now you are doing things that is laying down the bricks. You may not like the things you are doing, but it's laying the bricks down. It's laying that path down for you to find your own unique voice and to continue it further.

For the longest time, I was a wheel thrower. That was the thing that I love to do. But the thing was, I was still going through the motions with that. I was going through the motions, but each thing I did and each alteration I tried, it was laying down the bricks for me to find new skills, to learn new things that I liked, and it was laying down that path for me. It's the same thing for you.

Whatever you are trying right now, maybe you are somebody right now who is trying something that is completely new to you, maybe you like it, maybe you don't, whatever it is, you are trying that thing. And that is such a good thing because you are laying that path down for yourself. And each new brick that you place down, that's a new skill that you have in your tool belt.

And in that tool belt, you're gonna be able to take one of those, the skill, and you're gonna be able to combine it with another skill if you want to, right? So let's say in your tool skill belt for pottery is you have wheel throwing, and that is a thing that you typically focus on, but you also have in your tool skill belt, a way for you to, you're good at carving, you're good at carving pots.
Combining Skills for Pottery Progress

See, what if you combine those two together and see where that takes you? That's another brick that you just place down. And if you don't like it, great, you don't like it. You still lay down that path and you still have many other things that you could choose from to help you move that path forward. Each brick is, think of it like a skill.

A skill that you can learn to make it go even further or an idea that you want to try with your pottery to lay that path down. Each brick is a new skill or new idea. And the more you try out these new ideas and the more you try out and try to learn new skills, the quicker your path is going to be able to come alive. And you're going to see the path for your voice.

So keep on making, keep on making. I know it can be hard sometimes where maybe imposter syndrome comes up, but each new skill you are learning, each new idea you are trying, you are laying that path down because the more you can keep trying, the more reps you can put in, the faster you're gonna be able to find your voice and the more it's gonna look that much better.
