Introduction and Pottery Journey

Here is my biggest lesson from my very first pottery sale.

Elevating Pottery Skills

00:00:06
Speaker
If you love pottery and want to take your skills to the next level, you're in the right place. Find your own pottery style. What is up, Shaped Nation? This is Nick Torres here. And for those that don't know me, it is my mission to help you discover your own unique voice with your pottery and to not only help you find your voice, but also be able to sell that voice as well.

First Pottery Sale Reflections

00:00:24
Speaker
So I recently just had my very first pottery sale.
00:00:29
Speaker
And while I only made three sales, but there's a big reason why I think I only made three sales. So before leading up to my actual starting getting ready to build hype for my characters and for my pottery sale, I had hardly posted anything about my own pottery at all.

Social Media and Visibility Challenges

00:00:53
Speaker
I have a bunch of things about my podcast on my Instagram and my YouTube and stuff.
00:00:58
Speaker
But for the most part, I would only post things about my pottery to my Instagram stories, which goes away in 24 hours. I would hardly ever post it on my feed and hardly ever post videos about my pottery. I would do it maybe once every week and a half, give or take. And upon doing my first pottery sale, I learned that I need to be able to
00:01:27
Speaker
put out my pottery more often. I need to do it almost every single day now because what I was doing before just wasn't working. I got three sales, which is really amazing. My first three sales, really amazing. But if I keep doing the same thing over and over and over again, then I'm never going to break those three sales and I'm never going to get better. I'm never going to be able to make my vision of my life come to life. So I need to get better at

posting my pottery to

Content Creation Strategy

00:01:58
Speaker
my actual social media. And I'm sure a lot of you guys are also in this boat as well. I honestly don't have a problem posting my pottery. I think it's just the actual making of creating another a good video or a good picture. That is the only thing that is probably holding me back. But I still do it every once in a while. And so what I'm doing this time around leading up into my next sale that I'm going to be doing
00:02:26
Speaker
is that I'm gonna try to post, whether it's a picture or a video, whatever it is, I'm gonna try to post my pottery. Give it some love to the people. Show it off to social media so that I can get more attention onto my pottery so that when the next time I do a pottery sale, more eyes are gonna be on it and more people are actually gonna be likely to make it. Because if we're not trying to market our pottery, we're not trying to market ourselves,
00:02:55
Speaker
And how are we ever going to sell our pottery? So there's this movie called The Field of Dreams, which is basically a movie where somebody makes a baseball field and these ghosts come in and the whole theme of the movie is if you make it, they will come and all these dead baseball players from like the past come to play on that field. And the whole theme of the story is if you make it, they will come. But that's not really true for our own pottery.
00:03:23
Speaker
Just because you make the pottery, that doesn't mean you're gonna be able to sell the pottery. We have to market ourselves as well. I'm gonna get better at that and so should you. Here is my plan going forward to market my pottery better. So for myself, I have done videos before, like where I do look kind of like a cinematic. The only problem was with that video is it takes very, very, very, very, very long time for me to do.
00:03:50
Speaker
And I honestly don't really enjoy it that much. I enjoy the outcome of it, like how it turns out, but the actual process of it takes way too long. I take way too many videos. My storage on my phone gets built up and then I have to buy more. So it's a very long process with that type of cinematic video. So here's what I'm doing now, leading up to the future.
00:04:13
Speaker
So instead of doing that cinematic video where it just kind of looks very good and everything looks uniformly, what I'm doing now is I'm taking one video of my sculpture, of the sculpture process, and I'm pretty much gonna try to tell a story or give a tip. Let's say if I wanted some wrinkles, I'll tell you how I do that, what I am doing to make my sculptures come to life. And that is gonna be part of my content plan to market my pottery. Do I know if it's gonna work?
00:04:44
Speaker
I don't know but I'm going to try anyways because trying something is better than doing nothing. So that is my plan leading up.

Daily Pottery Posting Challenge

00:04:51
Speaker
I'm going to try to post something about my pottery every single day or at least five times a week.
00:04:58
Speaker
whether it's a video or just simply a picture, I'm going to post it to my Instagram. And I want you to take this lesson as well because you also need to be marketing your pottery. You also need to be showing off your pottery if you want to be able to get eyes on it and other people to start doing things with it.
00:05:15
Speaker
So let's make a commitment together to start posting our pottery more often so we can get more eyes, so we get the sales that we want and to live the life that we want as well. So I challenge you for this month, go out and post pottery almost every single day as often as you can to your Instagram, to your social media, because I'm taking this challenge myself so I can continue growing my pottery business. I hope you guys enjoy this episode and I'll see you guys in the next one.
