It just means we could've got a free flight. Right, I know. Downstairs. I know. You should tell them that you- Darn. But that's a far walk.

Introduction to Yacht Ones

00:00:24
Speaker
Welcome to Yacht Ones, the very first episode of Yacht Ones. We're here at Yacht Con. Or actually, we're not here at Yacht Con. This is the pre-event Yacht Con. But I'm Jeremiah O'Shan. We're joined by the one and only Will Bruin of the Seattle Sounders. We're here at Optimism Brewing. We're going to be going through a tasting flight. And as the beers get better, our assumption is that the answers are also going to improve. So luckily, Will is already like halfway through his first one.

Will Bruin's Heritage and Sports Background

00:01:04
Speaker
No, I put it in front of you. That's what's gonna happen. But Waller's, I may as well let you know what we're drinking. We're starting off with a beer that's called Hello World. It's a Bavarian Bright Lager. What was your first impression of this beer, Will? Very good. I should be catching up. I feel like it was a while ago I had a sip, so I'll have to retry it.
00:01:22
Speaker
Yeah, it's like a very German-style lager. Yeah, that's exactly simple. It needs to be in a big stein. It should be in a big stein. I like that. Have you ever been to Germany and done the big stein kind of thing? No, it's definitely on my bucket list because I am half German and half Irish, so I'm a realist.
00:01:47
Speaker
from st louis and part german huh german and iris weird never guessed that combination yes all right that is all my bucket list to do i have not done it yet but i will definitely make sure i get around to it okay good well uh so we're gonna just start off here
00:02:03
Speaker
with some questions about your playing experience. So you played high school soccer. That's something that not a lot of players today are doing anymore. Do you feel like that's something that is being lost? Do you feel like that's a good move?
00:02:19
Speaker
You know, I think I was like the last of a generation to do that. Right. So like with all the academies and everything these days, like for example, I was our last personal leg. I roomed with 16-year-old Josh Asensio. When I was 16, I was playing high school soccer, like I said. So, you know, I enjoyed it thoroughly because I was able to play baseball, basketball, and soccer. I was able to be well-rounded in a bunch of different sports. I don't know, you've learned things from different sports.
00:02:47
Speaker
I've never been the type of guy that's only soccer, soccer, soccer, soccer. I don't think I'll ever be that guy. But that's just me for, you know, these academies and stuff really focus on just, you know, only making sure you play soccer. I'm really happy with playing soccer in high school because it helps kind of round me into a future.
00:03:05
Speaker
So what did you play in your other sports? What positions? Baseball, center fielder. Center fielder. If you wanted to strike me out, just throw the high cheese, and I'll go for it every time. OK. So I was either home run or strikeout. You were like a three true outcomes kind of player. Yeah, you know what you're getting. Basketball, I was the smallest on the high school team. We had two seven-footers. What? Yeah. I was a shooting guard. Really bad percentage for a shooting guard, but it was fun to run and gun.
00:03:33
Speaker
Other than that, I played right back in high school soccer, now I'm guessing. I tried to set up my center back days in the years to come. I'm telling you, I've got the body type of a center back to let the mind move forward.

MLS Journey and Personal Achievements

00:03:53
Speaker
So, okay, you are current, I don't know if you know this or not, but you're currently tied for 32nd all time in MLS goals. Alright, so I'm going to read off a list of players for you who are ahead of you without keeping, I'm sure you might have an idea of where they rank and so you would be inclined to say, well, I'd like to finish ahead of him.
00:04:12
Speaker
But just based on pure experience of how you know them and how badly you'd like to have those bragging rights, which of these players would you most like to finish ahead of? OK, so Taylor Twelman, Ante Razov, former coach of yours, right? I never played for Ante. You never played for Ante? I thought, oh, you're right. He left after 2016. OK, so maybe he's not a big one then. Brian Ching, a former teammate.
00:04:39
Speaker
Uh, Precky, a current coach. Oh, I'd love to be Precky. He's probably way up there. Well, and Mike McGee, just because I feel like he's a guy that you might have some in common with. Yeah, no, he's a good guy. I met him a few times, talked a few times. I don't really, I feel like we're on the same page with me and Mike. So you're okay with me? I'm fine with him. Okay. Chingy and I, I know when I was there, Brian didn't want me to beat him.
00:05:04
Speaker
So I'm sure he had a say in getting rid of me before I could, but I'll let you know. It's always fun to be in the same talking points as those guys. They've scored a lot of goals. Personally, for me, I want to get to 100. I think that's feasible. I don't think that's out of the picture. And I think that's something I can do. And if I am 40 looking back on my career, say I score 100 goals, I'll be happy.
00:05:29
Speaker
I remember when you came out, I think it was Matt Doyle who made a big point of saying, this is a guy who's going to score 100 goals. You know, I think I've, I've taken my own home for a second, but I think I've done a good job of, you know, kind of adapting with the league's growth, because, you know, there's always, Center 4 is always a position where you can throw money, bring another guy in, bring another guy in. I've always had to adapt my game and score goals, and, you know, I'm always around double-digit goals, and I think, you know, personally, I think that
00:05:57
Speaker
is I take pride in that because you know from my first year now the league has grown immensely and there's been much better goal scores coming in the league scoring a lot more goals and that's something that I'm happy that I've been able to just not get weeded out. Do you think about that a lot or do you think that's a good thing for MLS that
00:06:16
Speaker
Someone like yourself, when you came into the league, wasn't competing with a Raul Rui Diaz or like, a Nova Femi Martins or someone like that, but those are the kind of guys you're competing for minutes now. Is that good for the league, you think? 100%, yeah, because I think I came into the league at the right time, because, you know, like you said, I was playing in high school, and then, oh, I can go play college soccer? Cool. Oh, shoot, I'm going to get drafted. Let's go see what this is about. And I'm still here, still scoring goals.
00:06:43
Speaker
still doing my thing and I think if I were to come to the league at a different time the competition would have been not that it wasn't bad then but I think right now where the league's at as opposed to nine years ago the competition to come in as a rookie is much harder and you know I'm very happy that I was able to
00:07:01
Speaker
You know, get directed by Dom Keneer and have an opportunity to play as a young player, because that did a lot for me, you know, mentally. And just being like, all right, this is what we're doing, we're playing soccer, let's make sure we make the most of it.

National Team Experience and Social Media Insights

00:07:14
Speaker
Very good. So I don't think you really answered that question. Is there one guy that you want to finish ahead of, you want to make sure? There must be a special place for 12 men.
00:07:22
Speaker
Yeah, but he's high up there. So he's saying he's high up there. Round almost 200. No, but he's high. He's not too high. He's not that much over 100. Oh. Well, I would love to get the 12 in just to give him some shit. OK. Those were all guys, I think, that I thought were within reason of within reasonable finishing. Do you know what I'm at? Because I honestly don't. You're at like. Say I'm in the 65. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, I just I should have figured that out. And realistically, I know everybody's like, no, you should know it's fun.
00:07:51
Speaker
You don't remember every goal? I know. We count Champions League back in 2011, we count Open Cup in 2007, and we just count purely MLS. These are just MLS goals. Yeah, I think that's about it. So you've got two US national team camps. I'm sure you remember that. Yeah.
00:08:12
Speaker
Both of them more came in the 2013 Camp Cupcake, I believe, right? I won the Gold Cup in 2012.
00:08:23
Speaker
Did you have a cap in the gold cup? I was one of the two players that did not see a cap, but stayed past the first. I think Hercules Gomez got injured and sent home, so I was able to stay for the whole camp. Well, you have a gold cup medal. That's a nice fun fact. It is a fun fact. Wikipedia did not have that fun fact. Hey, you can't trust everything's the only way.
00:08:43
Speaker
So those were kind of the early and maybe even the like the glory days maybe of Jurgen Klintman. What was your memory of Jurgen as a coach and of the kind of the atmosphere around the team?
00:09:00
Speaker
Got called into camp, I think 2012 camp, I did pretty well. I did well in that camp. I subbed in for Landon Donovan on his last appearance, I believe his last appearance, before the Gold Cup. But I thought I played well, I thought I was going to have more opportunities. I was doing well at trainings for the Gold Cup, never got into a game, but was always on the bench. Won the Gold Cup, and then
00:09:30
Speaker
I was injured for a January camp.
00:09:42
Speaker
I was younger, I was naive, I was stupid. It's probably my biggest regret as a professional player was not just going and being like, look, I want to be part of the group. I want to be part of this going forward. Instead, I was like, you know, I'm not going to be able to play. I'm going to stay back. And, you know, my older self now looking back and going, that was stupid. I was really dumb. You get an opportunity to come in and be part of you. And if you're injured, you go, I can do it. And that's something I regret. But, you know, I own all my mistakes. I'm not going to
00:10:12
Speaker
So do you and Chad like sit there and reminisce about like how... Does Chad spend a lot of time? The most criminally under-capped player in U.S. history.

Rivalries and Relationships in Soccer

00:10:27
Speaker
I don't either.
00:10:33
Speaker
I think we get all caught up in soccer and social media and everything in this country. We want everything to be sexy. We want this to be like this. We want to play this. If somebody's going to go do the job adequately, if not even better than that, but it doesn't look cruel, then we're just going to push them aside. I think Chad is the epitome of he gets everything done. Name something that he does not do well.
00:10:56
Speaker
Oh, I totally agree. I mean, it's amazing. I don't think there is anything that he doesn't do well. I mean, I don't honestly, like you look at the criteria that you want in a
00:11:06
Speaker
National team center back and I I don't understand. I just don't understand Do you think you've learned a lot playing against the guy like Chad every day
00:11:30
Speaker
When he must have trained so every week. No chats. One of the best interviews I've played against in my career. I've played against Tim Cahill just back when I was in Houston. I played some
00:11:54
Speaker
What do you train against Chelsea you mean no we played like that like I was saying charity cup games Oh sure to get before Lucy with before Chelsea Now you're putting me on the spot Oh Okay Before he went to Chelsea, okay I'm surprised I was able to pull the coil bit out of my head. It all came full circle Great! And then Owen Cole was the coach Houston
00:12:21
Speaker
You know, Chad's definitely one of the best teammates in the game. So a player, an anonymous player, once told me that FC Dallas was the most undeservedly pompous team in MLS. Do you have any comment on that particular quote? Favorite team to play against must be FC Dallas.
00:12:53
Speaker
Most annoying team I've seen. Because even in the preseason game we just played them in the morning, they go up 1-0 and they're just complaining and arguing. When it's preseason at 10am, settle down. You don't need to run the clock out now. Chill out. And I think it's just something underwater there.
00:13:13
Speaker
That's just not my opinion. So is that something that you learned like immediately you show up in Houston and it's like Dallas is this is the teammate How would you I guess here's a better way of putting that what's okay? It's more recent. Yeah, so what's the is this so the rivalry between Portland and Seattle is not like Dallas This is like a genuine like I don't care who I play for that's not a team almost I think that Houston Dallas is almost like I don't want to push it down
00:13:44
Speaker
I'm sure that answer will play very well. Along those lines, what's the meanest thing a fan has ever said to you?
00:14:00
Speaker
the meanest thing a fan has ever said to you either like that you've heard in the crowd or like on social media? Oh, yeah. Crowd, I block out. Social media is funny. When I was younger, I used to get so blood-heard about what Joe Schmoe was saying about me. Probably didn't even watch the game. So I can't think of anything. There's been so many through my career that I can't even think of anything in particular. The first thing that comes to mind was
00:14:28
Speaker
Just our scrimmage against Dallas. I had people posting on like an old Instagram post like, ah, you still missed your PK against Portland. It's the third PK I've taken on my 90 or career. I know I should have made it, but let's calm down a little bit.
00:14:49
Speaker
I've had a lot of things said, but more recently I like to follow suit of Russell Westbrook. I don't know if you've heard what he said. No. People ask Russell Westbrook, like, how do you just block out the haters he is? Fortunately, I've been given a gift. My gift is just not giving a fuck.
00:15:10
Speaker
I think that's a good mindset and motto to go along. Along those lines, we've moved into pride, which is a tart farmhouse. I have not yet tried it. What is what is your thoughts on this? Oh, it is very tart.
00:15:30
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Part and smooth. Part and smooth. I think you can do that. I think you can. I think you can get away with that. I like that. I think that one's good. You know, that's, we're getting more down my alley. Oh, good. You're, you are into flavor. You are, you're not a, you, you will like it. I grew up on Budway. So that's the first one was very much. Yeah. That was like this whole new like craft brewery thing is new to me. And you love it. Oh, good. I don't know how good it'll be for my career, but it's good. Well, this will be good for your career. That's for sure.
00:16:00
Speaker
So we're gonna move into this, maybe a little different area here. What are some of the characteristics that you look for in a good roommate? Like team roommates? Yeah. Cleanliness. Is that a problem with some roommates? I'm easy going, but I don't think it's a problem. I just think it's more annoying than anything. Like stick to your area, I'll stick to my area.
00:16:27
Speaker
I don't mind not talking, that's not a big deal for me. I'd rather have somebody not talk so much than somebody who's talking my ear off when I'm just like, leave me alone. Which is maybe why you and Clint were good roommates, right? Yeah, I think we were good roommates. He snuck to himself. That's easy for me, I miss part of me.
00:16:47
Speaker
Did you get to know a different side of Clint rooming with him or was he really like what you see is what you get unless you like live at his house? No, I like Clint a lot. I think everybody kind of gets intimidated by him. Just like when he comes off is more like don't mess with me. I'm going to tell you how it is. But once you get underneath that a little bit, or if you're just like me and just don't really care, I think he respects that. You know, I enjoyed rooming with him. He was a good roommate. Like I said, somebody who just
00:17:17
Speaker
very clean, he does what he needs to do, sticks to himself, and it worked great. Were there any good, kind of, tailored, or not, I mean, Clinton Dempsey stories that you can relate that maybe we don't, because we didn't get to see, I think that was one of the things I think that Seattle soccer fans felt like they missed out on is we didn't really feel like we got to know Clinton, because he was, kind of, he controlled his, kind of, uh... No, I think...
00:17:44
Speaker
Honestly, I think what you see is what you get. I don't think there's, he's not a different person behind the door or in the room or anything, I think. Genuinely, I can't speak for, you know, being in a bit of his house and hanging out with him like that, but for me, from what I saw, training with him in a locker room with him, rooming with him, what you see is what you get. You gotta respect somebody like that.
00:18:08
Speaker
A couple of seasons ago, the last year before you came to Seattle, you had an on-field, we'll call it, interaction with Ozzy. And then you come the next year, you play, right, it was like the whole dramatic thing. And you come to Seattle that next offseason,
00:18:28
Speaker
you score that goal against Montreal, one of the first players to show up to you to hug you is Ozzy. Now is that one of those things where you ever have like a formal like you actually talk to him and say like hey you remember this thing we had last year let's let it go or is it just like in sports you just
00:18:46
Speaker
Your teammates are your teammates, your opponents are your opponents. That happened years ago. That's over with and done with. We didn't even acknowledge it. We laughed about the video that was made, talking about, I love you, I hate you. But other than that, it's- This is the man who made the video. I loved it. I think I watched it on repeat in two facts. But other than that, it's over with.
00:19:13
Speaker
If he would have done the same in my spot, I would have done the same in his spot.

St. Louis Soccer and Local Culture

00:19:17
Speaker
We each wanted to get advantages for our team at the time. It was fun. We're both competitors. That's just how it is sometimes. I'll catch up to you there. First time I can say it. Yeah, I know. You're a St. Louis. We're going to move into now that we finished that one. Well, we may as well start off here.
00:19:36
Speaker
This is the BE Juicy. It's a happy, hazy, hoppy, northeast ale. Oh, it's because it's like a smoothie style, right? Is that what they call it? Smoothie style? Hazy. So this is like a hazy IPA, which are very popular these days. Cheers. We're into number three here. Now we're going to start getting good, I think. I swear, they're getting smoother. That is actually really smooth.
00:20:04
Speaker
I think that's my favorite. Grapefruit Mango Bursty. I know. They are legitimately getting better. So you're a St. Louis area boy. Everyone always says that St. Louis is like the next great soccer city. It's the best soccer city without a team. All this kind of stuff. Why do you think people say that and why has soccer not succeeded there yet?
00:20:31
Speaker
Well, I don't think the right opportunity has presented itself yet until I don't think anything less than an MLS team will not really succeed because I think St. Louis will look at that as like a failure almost. Like we're either going to MLS or not. Right. And I really have a reason why St. Louis has produced such good talent. I know the club I played for St. Louis, Scott Gallagher, back when I was playing for him was just Scott Gallagher.
00:21:02
Speaker
It was really good, but I had nothing to compare it to. That's just like what I did, what I played for. And I've got a funny story about this. It's perfect. Tommy Howe was our trainer. I know he trained with, or he was like the trainer for Kansas City for a little bit, an academy maybe, SKC. And T Howe was like one of the bests. His reputation was great when I was growing up. He was a good trainer and everything, and was a guy that took no shit.
00:21:32
Speaker
So me, also being a guy that does whatever the F.I. won, I play, so college soccer, club soccer was the opposite season as high school soccer. So play high school soccer in the fall, you gotta play club soccer in the spring. But I've already said I play baseball and basketball. So I've got a dilemma here. It's like, do I commit to my club soccer? Do I keep playing?
00:21:55
Speaker
Baseball and basketball my high school baseball or soccer coach was also the baseball coach So I had to tell him after my freshman year like look my club My soccer club coaches are getting pissed that I'm not coming to trainings and just coming to the games because I'm playing baseball Fast forward a little bit. He was like, you know, just put baseball play soccer
00:22:14
Speaker
Your baseball good children's? Yeah, he was also a soccer player. I know, he's got to sit with us. That was fast forward a year. So going back to when I was doing all of them, Tommy Howell, the trainer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher, said, if you don't come to trainings, I'll put you on the second team. He said, we'll still be in. That's your choice, your problem. I'm still playing baseball. I'm still playing basketball. I don't even know if I'm going to play soccer next year.
00:22:41
Speaker
So then push comes to shove, put me on the second team. I said, okay, whatever. Didn't really care. Still lived my life. Life went on. Comes to a state tournament, you know. We advance to the finals. Of course, Gallagher, Tommy Dow, made sure that we were on the opposite sides of the bracket. Hoping we get knocked out by somebody. Second team makes it always the finals. What do you know? First team, this is the finals. Funny story here.
00:23:11
Speaker
Oh, second team wins state cup. Funny how that works out, huh? That's really funny. And you scored the hat trick, right? And then I told him, look, I'll make you a compromise. I'll quit baseball. I'm not quitting basketball. I'll show up to trainings when I can. And from then on, he's like, all right, you'll be on the first team.
00:23:29
Speaker
So the second team that Wilbruen led, you just put them on your back, carried them a little? No, I would say we had a bunch of good players. I think guys liked playing with me on the second team. It was fun. It's still the same these days. It's enjoyable. Good stuff.
00:23:49
Speaker
How would you describe, like I get, especially like I watch some videos of you at Indiana, a younger Will Bruin. I detect a little bit of an accent. How would you describe the St. Louis accent? How would you describe my accent? I wouldn't describe it now. I don't think you can describe it now, but it felt like there was this little mid-wet, like just a slight mid-western. I don't know if I could describe it. Do you think that St. Louis has an accent?
00:24:14
Speaker
No, I've also been told living up here in Seattle that had a Texas accent. Oh, I would have not picked that up. So, like, I'm probably the wrong person to ask on. Fair enough, fair enough. Alright, so here's another St. Louis kind of question. I want to get your sense of what makes these, what is St. Louis style pizza? What makes St. Louis style pizza?
00:24:40
Speaker
It's like crackers, okay Yes, it seems that a lot of st. Louis food items have a particular particular kind of cheese tell us about this cheese Special cheese is but it's some sort of
00:25:02
Speaker
Fancy not fancy probably. Yeah, definitely not fancy. Okay, just some like some dairy farm Alright, what's a slinger slinger? Yeah The first thing I think of sling TV like the commercial like you don't know the food slinger It's like I want to say it's like a
00:25:26
Speaker
Bar food place. Okay, but it's so you don't know that one. Okay. How about ooey gooey cake? Is that a thing? Gooey cake? Yes. Gooey cake. Yeah, like something you make. Yeah. And what do you know what it is? It's like, I have no idea what the ingredients are, but my mom used to make a good gooey, gooey butter cake is what it's actually called. Okay. So this is what a lot of butter, a lot of dough, and
00:25:51
Speaker
I don't know the ingredients, I just know it's really good for you and really bad for you. Fair enough. Not good for you, really good for you. Good to eat, but yes. And do you know what a Gerber sandwich is? I don't know, baby food or Gerber sandwich. So it sounds like none of these things are... I've been out of St. Louis a long time. Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. Or Wikipedia is letting you know. Yeah, I know. One of these two things, either there's a big joke about Wikipedia and St. Louis culture.
00:26:17
Speaker
God forbid Wikipedia's Roman. I know. No, do you remember, you, I guess, maybe, I've learned that you maybe were not a huge baseball fan, but do you remember where you were when Mark McGuire hit his 62nd homer in 98? Yeah, I remember watching it at home, and it just got over the left field wall. And he did the signature. Yes. And they were playing the Cubs and Sammy Sosa. That's right, that's right. No, I'm not, I'm not a baseball fan, I just,
00:26:46
Speaker
The older I get, the less I watch it, I'll say. But baseball was always on TV for a while. Markiplier was like my idol until I realized he was just doping.
00:26:57
Speaker
But everyone was then, right? But then it was like, everybody was doing whatever. And you were like 12 at the time, probably? Yeah. You didn't care? No. All you know is living the life. But I remember. I remember thinking that that home run was probably the shortest home run he's ever had. Right. Just barely clear level. So it is good to know that you at least have a very distinct memory. Oh, yeah. You're at home. OK. It's no Gerber baby, Gerber.
00:27:21
Speaker
it's related though so we're gonna be moving into I think our next beer here this is the well you yeah well I guess we're finishing all of these this is not what I intended to do I know right all right so this is the I don't know what I intended I just didn't want to I didn't want to get in trouble with anyone I don't worry
00:27:46
Speaker
If anybody says anything to you about me, tell them to talk to me.
00:28:04
Speaker
meme that we created of you flying through. Okay, I'll tell you the story. So I told Alex, Alex Caulfield, he was like, are you sure you like this feels like it's maybe making fun of him.

Social Media Sensitivities and Fatherhood

00:28:19
Speaker
And I was like, be fair. I remember Alex being like, are you sure of this? I was like, I saw the Jeremiah.
00:28:24
Speaker
That's what I was like trying to explain to him like he actually requested this thing It is not a thing that I am doing to him. I'm doing it for him. Yeah, some people get butthurt about things. I'm not one of those guys I've been in this room long enough. He was a little worried. He was genuinely I told I like it's like I just want you to know that this is coming out He's like whoa. I gotta talk to Will first. I was like Will asked for this. There's a lot of sensitive people in this league.
00:28:49
Speaker
A lot of sensitive people that run social media for the league and a lot of sensitive people that are in the league. Yes, one of those sensitive people I think runs the FC Cincinnati Twitter account. That's what I was implying, a lot of sensitive people about social media.
00:29:06
Speaker
So this next one we're drinking is called Heliotropic. It's a tropical hoppy ale. How do you determine the difference, the hazy hoppy or tropical? Well, the hazy, I think, is the color. So this one just has passion fruit and melon. Well, that's the flavor profile. And then it says powerful. And powerful. This is, I mean, it's 7.6%. They did not skimp on the alcohol percentages on most of the hair. I'd like to do that here a lot. Yeah, it's pretty good. This is actually, you're right, they keep getting better.
00:29:36
Speaker
keep getting rid of the keep getting a little slightly maltier so we're gonna move into a category I have titled fatherhood and married life oh god so um you know I I kind of
00:30:08
Speaker
Do you want me to give you the answer I gave you earlier?
00:30:12
Speaker
You think it's just... there's nothing to it. No, I don't think there's anything to it. I think you could be any team in this league. And that's what it always feels like. You're going to get married or you're going to have a kid. It's like if you're in this league long enough, it's going to happen. See, I actually like that observation because this is one of those things I read. This observation was actually in Soccer Nomics, which is a book I've never read. But it's full of like fake analysis. And this is one of the things...
00:30:37
Speaker
No, it's full of like like kind of pseudo analysis and this is one of the things like they talked about this one team where they said this was the case and The more you write you're you think about it you get a bunch of guys who were in their mid 20s Yeah, they're gonna have kids or get married pretty soon. I mean look my first five years at Houston I got all the single I wasn't single but I got all the going out and stuff out of the system and then
00:31:00
Speaker
I was like, all right, time to get married, because she stuck with me through that. And it's like, all right, now, now, it just so happens. She'll be so, so touched. Yeah, I don't know. I love you. But it just so happens, now I have a kids. Great. So, you know, your wife, Caitlin? Yeah, Caitlin. You met in college? Yeah, she was, she actually has the record in Indiana for digs from a libero. So that she was playing libero? Yeah.
00:31:26
Speaker
So did you ever have to go through like a, did you ever have to like show up at her family at function and like show off your volleyball skills? And they expected- Oh no, no, no, no. I thought you were going to say after, ever have to show up at her apartment because it was over. I was going to say that after that. No, volleyball was not my strong suit. No. She never saw a soccer game before we started talking or whatever. Right.
00:31:54
Speaker
Well, I was not intending to ask this, but now I'm curious. How did you guys meet?
00:31:59
Speaker
So we had a soccer house, and they had a volleyball house, and the soccer house just liked to have fun, throw parties. Volleyball people like to go out too. So they came over a lot, and I mean, how'd you not be attracted to this? Great, great. I punched somebody over there. Did you really? OK, now we need to know that. Oh, no, I need more beers. Well, we'll come back to that.
00:32:27
Speaker
And he was my friend. But he was your friend. This sounds very good. So Caitlin, in case, I don't know that necessarily the audience will know this, but she, if you follow her on social media, I can gather from the conversation that we had in regard to this meme that we created, that she likes to bust your balls. Oh, yeah. Like, she has a particular- It goes both ways. Yes, I'm sure it goes both ways, in any good marriage.
00:32:56
Speaker
has to go both ways with that. But is that how it's always been? Has it always been like you it's a give and take thing and it's and I think that like I honestly do think it's like a sign of like a healthy relationship when you can
00:33:11
Speaker
They used to be, like, unspoken. Don't talk about it. I know people are talking crap on me. Like, shit happens. Just don't even like it. There would be a point where I'm like, don't even look it up. She likes to search my name, see what people are saying. And I'm like, don't even bring it up to me because it's going to piss me off. And now I'm like, oh, I want to see what this is. And that's just funny. Now how can I make fun of them? So now she brings it up. She's like, so-and-so says, you suck. I'm like, oh, damn. Darn. I suck. This sucks.
00:33:40
Speaker
So it's like it's kind of the evolution of it and like she knows all about being in sports and everything like how it's now it's different because it's my job and you know when you're in college you take it differently and now it's just...
00:33:56
Speaker
Do you think part of that is her desire also to kind of, because I would imagine it's a challenge. There's always this dynamic of when you're married or you're dating a professional athlete, I would think. That there's always this kind of unspoken idea that you're this public face, you're out there in the public, you have maybe women throwing themselves at you, whatever. Do you think that this is a thing where she likes to just kind of keep you grounded and remind you, you're just a little ruined.
00:34:25
Speaker
Houston was way worse about that than Seattle, just city-wise. Houston, maybe I was younger and better looking, but I like my own George Clooney. I think I'd be better looking as an old. Yeah, you go out in Houston and it's much different.
00:34:41
Speaker
Oh, what's soccer? And then you come out here, and it's like, oh, you play soccer, but more people here are more willing to talk to you and engage with you. And I think that's really cool. And I've never been one to, like, bite into that. I can hear the last, like, if you're gonna throw yourself at me, I'm gonna laugh at you. So that's just my mentality. It's like, I'm no different than anybody else, you know? Like, why do you feel the need to talk to me over the person next to me? That's just my mentality, how I've always been.
00:35:09
Speaker
So when you, now this is a, when you go out in Seattle, do you find that you are recognized most of the time or most of the time are you just like some guy? I'd say half of them. I have a pretty generic like white person face and white person looking so I can get away when I throw my hat on I can get away with just nobody saying a word. You know speaking of which I was watching
00:35:32
Speaker
You said you watched Game of Thrones. Rickon, I don't know if you know Rickon Tarly. He's the older brother of Sam Tarly. I have to admit, you have a pretty good resemblance to Rickon Tarly. So you're putting me in the category of Samwell Tarly.
00:35:47
Speaker
No. Well, the older brother. The much more... I don't think I've seen Rick Lillian. Well, Rickon is the much more... He's the preferred... No, but he's like the preferred son. This is a very positive... In my family, I was the black sheep. You were the black sheep. I'm a little child. So you, in your heart, you're Sam, but in the public face, you're Rickon.
00:36:07
Speaker
Of course, Rickon ends up getting posted by a dragon. In my heart, I'm John Snow. I haven't seen how it all plays out yet. Great, don't worry. I told you I love the Hound, but... Yes, this will all make sense in like a couple weeks when you finish watching the show.
00:36:23
Speaker
Oh my god, I don't think I've ever had my hair like that. Seriously? No, no, no, that's not, oh did I get, it's whoever the older Tarly brother. Alright, so you are about a month out from being a first time dad. Yeah, like three weeks almost. Three weeks? You said three weeks? What would you describe your mentality going into this? Is it more nervous or less nervous than your MLS debut?
00:36:50
Speaker
Less nervous. Less nervous. I don't remember how I was feeling on my MLS debut. I remember in Houston, we played at University. University of Houston was our name. We played Philadelphia Union as an expansion team. And I was up at Center Forward with Jason Gary, who is now my financial advisor. Nice!
00:37:12
Speaker
I don't remember if I was nervous, I'm sure I was, but I'd probably say I was less nervous. But you're not feeling nerves, are you excited? I definitely am feeling, I would say more like, let's get it going, sort of thing. How would you describe your level of preparedness? Are you reading all the books? Are you heavily watching anything? Good. My wife showed me a YouTube video that was 30 seconds long.
00:37:42
Speaker
is she what would you how is what's her feeling she's the nervous one is she is she nesting is she like yeah creating a she's like we're not ready for this like nothing's prepared at the house no it's true i would say that's the thing that's the one yes i think that you're right i think that you can like
00:38:02
Speaker
From a practical perspective, there's no prep you need to do for a newborn baby. So the curtains in the baby's room, she goes, I need to steam them. So I was like, oh yeah, the baby's room. I'm really worried about steamed curtains. Steamed curtains, definitely key to successful baby rooming.
00:38:20
Speaker
um so if you could name your baby after you know first of all do you know if it's a boy or girl yes boy the boy yeah i did not see any dramatic uh gender reveal video though no um i got a nice video on my phone that
00:38:36
Speaker
When it was a boy, and I was like, hell yeah. And she was not. She was open for a girl? She really wanted a girl. Yeah, well, I can't blame her there. We have two nieces, so she's used to girls, and she really wanted something that she's used to. She keeps saying, I hope he's not like you and your brothers. And you come from a family of three brothers.
00:39:01
Speaker
who, three of you, and your mom, I'm sure, was dramatically transformed from having a normal life to being a mom of three boys, which I'm sure she's definitely a third of. Funny story, for the longest time, they thought I was gonna be a girl. Oh, that is a funny story. So my brothers gave me shit about that all the time. Well, I'm a big boy now.
00:39:30
Speaker
what's 65 gold an MLS say about that so are you like did you what do you think of gender reveal videos or is that not that's not your thing I'm guessing I think it's cool
00:39:53
Speaker
You're finding out the gender, you're a baby, I shouldn't be like a whole broadcast. Yeah, I appreciate that. You know me, I'm not a big social media guy. No, you know what's funny? Speaking of social media, we have a little section that we've completely stolen. I'm trying to pick up my social media game and I moved from Twitter to Instagram because I think Instagram's the new thing and I'm probably like eight years late to party but
00:40:18
Speaker
I don't know if it's the new thing, but it's definitely a thing. I don't think you're wrong. I think that like you can get everything across on Instagram now with like, not now, they've had stories forever, but like Twitter's like getting the Seattle Times on Sunday in the mid-door. Oh, I hear you. Oh, of course, the computer's dead. So we have a section that we totally stole from
00:40:44
Speaker
So the concept of this show was stolen from a show called Hot Ones. It is an amazing YouTube interview show that I suggest everyone go watch. But you bring this up. So one of the things I've noticed about Instagram
00:40:59
Speaker
And this is a section we call What's That Gram, which we stole. It's the name we stole. But what do you think it is about Instagram that players seem to interact a lot more on Instagram than they would on Twitter, Facebook, or whatever else? What is it about Instagram that, like,
00:41:16
Speaker
encourages you to talk smack about your teammates on their posts that you might not do otherwise. You see this all the time. Players commenting on each other's posts. You never see them comment on each other's posts. I think the way it filters, so when you get on Instagram, the people that are around the most and the people's stuff you watch the most or like the most or see the most, it always pops up at the top of your feet. So it's like you get on, it's easy to be like, ah, what the hell you posting that for? You look like shit or something like that. Oh, sweet touch. Something like that.
00:41:46
Speaker
That makes it easy. It's not like if it's way down at the bottom, you're not going to scroll through everything. And then at the end, they'd be like, oh, now I'm going to comment. So you are a fan of the algorithm, that sounds like. Yeah, I would say so. All right. So we have a few posts, a few social media posts that we want to show you. And I want you to comment on.
00:42:08
Speaker
Yes, so we're moving into sweater weather, which a funny story about sweater weather. It used to be called timber. I wouldn't drink it. Of course you wouldn't because I wouldn't either. Apparently the staff loved timber. They thought this was the best beer we have. No one would buy it. And apparently they figured out the reason no one would buy it is because it's called timber.
00:42:29
Speaker
I wonder why that is. All right. So here's one of the, here's a social media post that you had. You, you got a, you had, this is a Twitter, this is a tweet, and someone sent you a DM, it looks like. It says, you're a traitor to the city of Houston. You're a despicable human being who doesn't deserve to be successful or to do anything good in life. This is harsh.
00:42:52
Speaker
You have no soul, and your inability to understand loyalty is truly amazing. Go to hell, my friend. Your response? Laughing, crying face. And you said, loyalty is one of my best traits. This seems to be a trend after six good years spent in one place.
00:43:13
Speaker
Never knew it was like at other places, but I'm so thankful to be in Seattle where fans actually appreciate me now move on gabs That's the person said to you and be miserable somewhere else Tell us the story of this tweet. You're apparently your wife Okay, I think I scored a goal on them, right? Yes, I think I was you're right My guess
00:43:39
Speaker
I'm not going to go into the whole, like, researching who they are, because it's not worth my time. Right. You're not going to get it. I'm going to guess it's some high school person somewhere, butt hurt, illegally drinking, shouldn't be drinking and tweeting sort of thing. And I can't be accused of that. That's it. Finally, I don't put the flaws out, but sometimes I do. Fair enough. If I was in the same room as that person, it wouldn't have been that nice. Well.
00:44:10
Speaker
So the next post I have here, we'll bring it up and I'll show it to you. I got a lot of retweets for that one. You did, I think you got it. That was a very popular tweet. This is a picture of you and your wife at Blue Mangrove. I love Blue Mangrove. That was probably my favorite show I've ever seen. And where was that, Vegas? Vegas. Any good story? What are you wearing on your head here? Blue Mangrove. Guy gave it to me because I put this on. And it was just so happened to be Rave Green?
00:44:41
Speaker
Did he know who you were? This was, I think, before I was in Seattle. Wow, that is... Yeah, I've only been to Vegas one time. My brother goes, like, basically every other month. I'd be bankrupt if I went every other month. Blue Man Group, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I thought it was a great, great show. They told everybody, they threw out streamers, sit with us on your bed during the show, because, like, the lights and everything.
00:45:09
Speaker
I think that was a late at night show, so I was already feeling pretty good. You look like you're feeling pretty good there. Oh god. So this one is from, this is a post, a series of posts from your wife that I think you'll like. I've had to reprimand her on social media. Yes, this is actually you reprimanding her. Watch this video. You know the series of these videos, I'm sure.
00:45:39
Speaker
This is Will trying to get a fat boy couch open. It's not working. It's not working very well. It's a rather long series of posts. These are all the posts? Yeah, there's like five posts or something. She was relentless. Caleb was relentless on these. Oh, Molly. There's Molly. Yeah, your dog is in this.
00:46:02
Speaker
And it ends happily, though. You seem to get frustrated with her. Watching YouTube videos on how to do it? Yeah, you're watching YouTube videos. There, it works. That's how stubborn I am. That's all we're filling it up with. No more. And then she follows it up with you at the beach trying to get it done. And she's laughing. But here's the thing. At the end of the story, did I get it done? You did get it done.
00:46:25
Speaker
See, look at this. What is the deal with this? First of all, I love this post, not because it's making you, like, making fun of you, but just because I feel like it's a window into your relationship. It's your life. That your wife is filming you doing this, despite you being clearly frustrated with the situation, with her, with your, the dog just wants you to play catch with her. Did it get done? It got done!
00:46:51
Speaker
This is like, is there a talk afterwards? She clearly... You never got her to take it down. Right. Right.
00:47:06
Speaker
And so does that, like, do you feel vindicated at the end of this? I give her the green light. She's probably better followed than me, because I give her the green light. She seems to be pretty good. She should follow or do whatever she thinks is suitable. She's told me multiple times, like, I should be your social media person. You should hire her to be your social media person. She's like, get you way more followers. Yes. I already paid too much for you. I can't hire you all for another. Another job. Another job. I know.
00:47:35
Speaker
But that seems like a healthy relationship to me, if I have to be honest with you. Because now everything I say is wrong, everything I do is wrong. Trust me, as a father I can tell you that that's all that it will be from here on out. So the last thing I want to show you is an image that's not necessarily on social media,
00:47:59
Speaker
but it's an image I'm sure a lot of our listeners and viewers will have seen and I just want you to comment on this incident if you remember this this is you giving the thumbs up double thumbs up to I believe Ted's Ted uncle who's that
00:48:23
Speaker
it's not pencil it's he always comes to the meetings oh i know who it yeah you're right it's uh he's he's uh one of the he's like one of the main guys he's like one of the main guys and he's got a social yes yes uh it's not kori walk rockwell it's um
00:48:41
Speaker
I can't remember his name, we'll get his name. I know, this is really bugging me now. Because I literally just saw him at the pro meeting that we did. I know. So you're giving him the, like what's, like what, this is the New England Revolution game I believe? Yeah, where you came back from 3-0 down to tie at 3-3, I believe you have a good one. I don't give any yellow cards. You don't? The fact that I get the yellow cards just... It looked like you were looking for the yellow cards. I feel like I need to get more yellow cards. Probably.
00:49:07
Speaker
I need to sharpen these up a little bit, giving it back from what I get. I think that'll be a goal of mine this year, get more yellow cards. You heard it first here. I like that. What prompted that? It felt like you were looking for the yellow cards. That was like the heat of the moment. You can sense that we're coming back. He's trying to slow the game down. He's telling us to...
00:49:28
Speaker
No, don't worry about he's letting New England like I'll take your time on goal kicks whatever no problem right now I take the time right. It's like that shit pisses me off It's like every team that comes into Seattle they get the benefit of the doubt every single game Every single game they give their like they have their best performance of the year and then the refs help them out It's ridiculous. I think it's like people always want to say like Seattle has a home field advantage Yeah, we have great fans. We have great support
00:49:57
Speaker
But we don't always get the best calls. Most of the time, breasts give us bad calls because they think we're getting a homegirl advantage. So it's kind of like a double-edged sword. I've seen both sides of it because I've been in Houston playing Seattle thinking, oh, they get everything they ever need. Now that I'm here,
00:50:13
Speaker
We don't get shit.

Seattle Soccer and Future Plans

00:50:16
Speaker
It's crazy. Look how many PKs we got last year. I think we have, what, three or four? Teams get three or four in a month. It's crazy. Atlanta, I think, gets that every game. It's unbelievable. Exactly. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. How many PKs did Joseph Martinez have? I think he had 12. I must say 10. Yeah, exactly. They held the digits. That's crazy. But the legal probably gave him a huge bonus for scoring X amount of goals. Right. But half of those PKs.
00:50:42
Speaker
Yeah, this should count. I've always said PK should count. Always said it, because I've never scored one. So I always said it. So, but the best part of that celebration is, or that's not the celebration, was that the next game...
00:50:58
Speaker
I said that question turned into talking about PKs. I know. Well, I'll ask you about, do you want to talk about PKs? Well, the celebration I should say that followed, I want to say the next week, you did a double thumbs up celebration. It just turned into a thing.
00:51:14
Speaker
It kind of turned into a thing. You kind of seem to see the social media reaction, and you lean into it. For me, I think it's really cool. Now, I'm sure you guys know better than me. I don't know if I'm like, I feel like I'm liked here. I think you're like, I don't want to stand up when I think you're liked. So in Houston, I was always the dislike person. Really? And that was like, so for me, I'm embracing this. I love it all. And I think it's really cool.
00:51:44
Speaker
I try to give it back because I've never been the opportunity because it's always been like F Bruin, whatever. So now I'm just like, oh wow, it's cool, this is what it's like on the other side. So that's been fun.
00:51:58
Speaker
Sometimes I just do like I gotta do it during warm-ups cuz they're chanting it so you've done that many times Well, there is a two-pole I believe of you actually two thumbs up That is the best it's absolute best So we're gonna work for the dawn we're Going into the final stretch here before the dawn. It's a bold Imperial. It's supposed to have a
00:52:25
Speaker
hints of espresso, dry figs, and dark chocolate. Which I am definitely feeling these, I don't know how you are. These are not a joke at this point. So speaking of which, our friends at Dirty South Soccer wrote this kind of like narrative. Yes, and basically the punchline of each section was you bursting into the room and yelling out a one-liner.
00:52:54
Speaker
Did that feel like to you? I don't know. I didn't know if I should take this as like an insult. I don't know either. I think it was, I think it was complimentary. Out of breath. I think that's the part that's like, is it complimentary or derogatory? But when you see that, is it like, do you take it as like, I love that people were talking about me or do you feel like you sit there and dissect it?
00:53:16
Speaker
Stephen A. Smith, I don't really necessarily like him, but the fact that he has a comment that always says, like, the fact that they're talking about you must mean they like you. Right. So, if they're talking about me, I guess they like me. Right. Because it's like people I give shit to means I like you. Right. It doesn't mean if I hated you, I just wouldn't talk to you. Right. Period. Yeah. If I liked you and wanted to give you shit, I'd give you shit. I mean, I think, I can't help but feel like it's complimentary in that
00:53:46
Speaker
they see you as a character and as a personality and that you're not just a random dude on the team but you're someone that oh wow you have a full-blown yeah you see that that is like dangerous did you actually cut yourself no because that would have been actually disastrous if I took you here
00:54:05
Speaker
And that is a full-blown broken glass. Right, I know. I know. You should tell them that you... Well, I don't know. We'll see what we can do. So, the last time we had you on the podcast...
00:54:23
Speaker
You gave a, you said that you kind of go to places, Bramblin Cross, you were living in Ballard at the time. Yeah, we moved. You now are in Beacon Hill, I assume. Have you bought a house in Beacon Hill? Yeah, we bought a house. That must feel, that must feel good to buy a house. It does. You didn't own a house in Ballard, I assume. Yeah, we were renting. So, here's the funny thing. I like to call it, I always have a funny thing for a restorer. Sure, of course. That's why you're here. In Houston?
00:54:51
Speaker
It was there five years, six years, like this is the time of my house. Now it seems great. 11 years later I've traded. So I think I might as well buy a house sooner than later here. Mark came down a little bit. He put us down more, but I just want to make it through 11 months. Did I say 11 years earlier? You said 11 years. I assumed you meant 11 months.
00:55:15
Speaker
I didn't think you'd been there that long. That's the sweater weather. That's the sweater weather wreaking its havoc. So I meant a couple of months. So what was the, how long of a process was it to buy the house? Did you, was it like one of these things when you first house you saw, you jumped on it? Um, no. It, you know.
00:55:32
Speaker
Caitlin going back to Caitlin. She was like, I really like this house. We've watched it for a while. Not a while, like a few hours and then it went off. So then it went off the market and it was like, oh, sorry, Caitlin.
00:55:49
Speaker
And then the next day it popped back on because of the buyers like financial problems or something I don't know the whole detail but So within like three hours we already our neighbor in Ballard where renting was real estate agent So we were able to see it in three hours that day solid
00:56:10
Speaker
And then he was like, all right, they've already got the weekend booked out for dealings and stuff. They want to make an offer, make an offer. So we made the surprise offer and fixed a few things. And he accepted. What was that? I think the first seat. So I know the seller. He's a good guy. I started to know him after just doing his own thing. He's a really good guy. But he went to his own open house for the first time.
00:56:40
Speaker
just to see what the reaction was like. Yeah, so he thought he was leaving money on the table. And I think that's why people hung that out and backed out. Oh, interesting. But I love that you bought a house, not just in the area, but you bought a house, like there's not a lot. So I want to make it past 11 months.

Yeah, you've got to make sure we get it. Garth, you got it. Garth, don't you, don't you do something? Yeah, okay. I already told Garth about it. I was like, you can't trade me out. Caleb, fuck you. But there's not a, I feel like there's like, most of the guys that come here, they might rent in Seattle, but very few of them actually buy in Seattle. I honestly think that's awesome.
00:57:21

The older I've gotten, the smarter I've gotten, I like to think. I think this market's a very hot market. I think it's going to be a very hot market for a while. This is our spin-off show. My brother. I'm all for my brother, Orser Hubert. He just moved up here two years, maybe less than two years ago. Your brother lives here. Yeah, he just moved up here. Oh, nice. So in 2012, he told me, hey.
00:57:43
Speaker
If you ever get trained to the sounders, I'll move to Seattle. And I was like, yeah, funny joke. 2016 comes along, 2017. I'm trained to Seattle. I thought you were serious about that. I guess I gotta move up there. He worked with Uber and St. Louis, got a promotion up here. Nice!
00:58:02
Speaker
So I guess I started this question by saying- So that's why I was going to bring my brother here. He had to watch over his baby. His baby? Yeah. Baby's templates. That's the thing. The babies are- My wife's freaking shower. She could have brought- Meanwhile I'm just drinking beers over here. I know, you could have brought the baby. It's a family friendly spot here. I apologize to the baby.
00:58:25
Speaker
I know. So we had, the reason I brought this up was like, so you, you had, you had kind of pumped up Rambling Cross. Do you have a new local spot that you go to? I've not really had much time. I'm open to submissions. Okay, so Beacon Hill suggestions. Yeah, last night we went to- Tweet them at Will. This is the first time we actually have like a proper house and dinner. Yes. We went to Far Hill or something. Yes, I know that one. Very good. I've heard that's good.
00:58:48
Speaker
And then there was a place called Homer, pretty close to it, then I was like, that looks cool and I get dried up. But never, I don't know anything about it. Is your wife a pretty adventurous eater? Are you guys both kind of in the food? No, I'm the adventurous one. Really?
00:59:01
Speaker
When I first met her, all she ate was spaghetti and boxed mac and cheese. She broadened her horizons at all? Yeah, I told her she had to. Okay. We have no choice. Right, okay. Good, I'm glad you're... So now she eats bolognese. Yes, meat sauce. You were a fitness specialist major. Was there ever... I was about to graduate in May. Yeah, from Indiana? Indiana, yeah.
00:59:29
Speaker
We've heard Trey Muse went on and on about the Hoosier for Life program. Is that what you're doing? It was not there when I was there. Okay. That's how old I am. Right. So you're just online? I've had, yeah, the league since I went generation to do this, the league paid for... I thought it was 10 years. It was actually seven years, so I was left with one credit to pick up the bill on.
00:59:55
Speaker
That's good stuff right there. So it's actually a good thing that I did it all early because I left with like 60 credits. So was your intention ever to use that major or was that just athlete major? Was that I was majoring in software? A little bit of both I think. My dad and my family is always talking about math and chemistry. And your parents are both like, sound like well educated folk. Were they stoked when you were like, I'm going to be a P major?
01:00:26
Speaker
No PE major was a different major. Sorry, didn't mean to insult you there. My dad always says, science, you can go into medical school. I go have fun, you can do it.
01:00:39
Speaker
So what would you say the nerdiest thing that you're into? And we had this kind of, what's nerdy now, because everything is- I really don't know. Nerdy culture's mainstream? I know. The way things are these days, it's like, oh, you do something different, that's a cool thing to do. Right. Well, so do you have the image ready? Oh, yeah. OK, so it's not Rick-on. Rick-on is, I was wrong, it's Dick-on. That's Dick-on. Dick-on. Come on. I'm just saying it looks like Jamie Lannister. It looks like Jamie Lannister?
01:01:10
Speaker
Yeah, that's a genius look, but that's Dickon. So it's Dickon? Yeah, his name's Dickon. So you're saying I'm Dickon. Right. That's your new nickname. So we'll see if we can say that. I will talk to Gerald. Cut. And cut. So this is the last question. You've been, obviously, exceptionally good. You've now gone over our allotted time by a full 30 minutes. I have no idea how we will edit this down, but I hope you've enjoyed yourself.
01:01:40
Speaker
What's the worst piece of advice anyone has ever given you? Either in sport or in life. Now we get in. Now we settle in. Have you ever gotten a good piece of advice? No.
01:01:54
Speaker
I really don't think so. I feel like everybody thinks they have the best advice, but it always, like it always correlates to your individual moment. So it's like I've never actually gotten good advice where I'm like, that is, that's it. It's always like, do your best, try your hardest. With no shit. That's always what I try. But,
01:02:20
Speaker
I think for me, this is going to sound very cliche, but in this day and age, doing everything with social media and everything that has to go on the side, you get to screw it off. It's not there, just be you. And I think that's one of the most important things, because you see a lot of people that always want to give the politically correct answer or want to give the answer. People want to hear from me.
01:02:47
Speaker
You know, in the media and everything, I always say what I think. And sometimes you like it, sometimes you don't. And I think that's the most important, just be yourself. And that always sounds very cliche, like the easy answer. But at this day and age, people aren't themselves. People are always...
01:03:06
Speaker
They think I'll act like who I think you want me to be. Just be yourself. Have fun with your life. You only get one. Enjoy it. Once you realize who you are and who you want to be, you'll be a lot more happier and have a lot more success.
01:03:26
Speaker
All right, well, I'm going to share with you the best piece of advice I ever got. And it was actually about being a father. And it was from Alexi Lawless, believe it or not. And he said, I do too. He just said, accept that you don't know what's going to, like, you can't, you can't just write, like, write it out. Right. That's the, that was the best piece of advice I ever received was like, you cannot, there's no prep. Plans never go accordingly. Exactly.
01:03:53
Speaker
So that's a, maybe we'll end it on that note. Yeah, absolutely. Well, thank you so much for doing this. Well, uh, this is a yacht ones. We finished up six flights. There we go. Now one flight of six, one flight of six flights would be too much. It'd be too much. Anyway. Uh, hope you enjoy the rest of, uh, of yacht con call you. All right.
01:04:37
Speaker
Hope you're enjoying Yacht Con.
