Episode Recap and Strategy Discussion

00:02:33
Speaker
to another episode. Gentlemen, what happened last time? We went and took care of that thing we forgot to take care of. You know that scene in an action movie where everybody gets all kitted up and ready to rock and then it smash cut to them in an elevator? Waiting to get to the right floor. We basically did an hour of that.
00:02:51
Speaker
That was the last. Sorry Randy, what were you going to say? I don't remember. We got the stones charged. We got the stones charged. We had to go back to. We got stones now. Yes. And we went back to Miss Marsh to the. The Connie knife thing near it. Yeah.
00:03:14
Speaker
We're heading to the one gate that we don't know has been demolished. I can't remember that we've seen. The money opened it. She did open it. We got there by the way of the speaker, Jayla. She teleported us and so now we've got charged stones that we probably ought to put into the weapons before we go jumping through gates. Agreed. That is true. That is a wise decision.

Weapon Strategy Against Eldritch Machine

00:03:38
Speaker
Is that a thing that any of us can do? We have to let Booyah tinker them all.
00:03:42
Speaker
I mean, we did establish that that was kind of Booyah's thing, as he can safely, right, swap them out. I safely swap, Booyah safely swap out. You know, I can't handle any of these weapons. None of them are finesse, right? Nope. You can handle them. Well, I can handle them, but I would lose my full provision. I'd lose my provisiony bonus off of any simple weapon, I think. So you can probably wield a spear.
00:04:13
Speaker
I guess Orianna was a rogue and she speared some. Well, Orianna was also a monk. That was where I got the spear. Oh, is it? Well, cool, fun, cool, cool, fun, cool. But you won't be able to use your dexterity. It'll be strength based. That's what the issue is. It's not my proficiency bonus. It's going to be your strength bonus instead of your dex. OK, so instead of plus 10, it's plus six. Not great, but it's still not terrible. Right.
00:04:35
Speaker
But I don't think, I mean I think we have to use the weapons to destroy the machine. I don't think we have to fight with them necessarily, I don't think. I might be wrong. The only thing we've been told we have to have the weapons for is breaking the Eldritch Machine that they're using. Maybe when we see a stat card, it might make me want to go ahead and use it as a fighting weapon as well.
00:04:58
Speaker
What sort of cool ranged thing can I get out of it? It's like, man, does that fire tornado thing that she was doing did do that? That was rad. And you can't throw a spear. Oh, yeah. So you've seen that. I know. Yeah. So you've seen the abilities of the spear. OK, I have. You've seen them like, for lack of a better term, quote unquote, mundane abilities. I bet that Philip has seen some sort of card or some. Oh, yes. Stats and abilities on it.
00:05:27
Speaker
Um, okay. So, um, Booyah, go ahead and give me, um, trying to think of what kind of check would be, um, make the most sense. Um, yes. Tinkers tools. That's true. You can stick. I mean, since it's with your, your hands and your tinkering, let's just go and do dexterity. So dexterity bonus plus your proficiency bonus.
00:05:56
Speaker
Now you're saving through a bonus. Why not? Okay, 23.
00:06:05
Speaker
So, yeah, you're able to install the stone into. Let's just start off with the spear. So as you install the stone, the head of the spear, some runes that previously you did not see before begin to light up and glow with the silvery, silvery light that now is trapped within the stone. So an additional property
00:06:35
Speaker
Um, additional property now that the spear of desert winds is fully activated. Um, on a successful critical hit with the spear, if the target is under the effect of any sort of possession, including quarry possession, um, the possessor must succeed on a DC 20, um, wisdom saving throw or be immediately expelled from the target. Cool.
00:06:59
Speaker
So when it crit hits the DC 20 save the power of the spear compels by the possess or okay, great. Go and give me another roll for the next weapon.
00:07:14
Speaker
Okay, so that's 22. For the Mall of Glacial Heights, which we don't have any stats for at all yet. So it is a plus one Mall. Treat is a great club, it says. I'm using 3.5 rules, so. The wielder of the Mall gains a plus two bonus on saves against any psionic-like powers.
00:07:43
Speaker
and is immune to possession because because now it is fully act so that's just the base
00:08:01
Speaker
Philip, will you do me a favor and look up what the icy burst... Spell? Well, it was a property on weapons in 3.5, if you can figure out what that means. Sure.
00:08:15
Speaker
Now that it is fully activated, once per day, the wielder can call out to the cloud giants, the cloud giant spirits and gain great strength in the form of a plus six enhancement bonus to their strength that lasts for 10 minutes. At the end of this duration, the wielder takes on one point of exhaustion. Okay, so an icy burst weapon functions as a frost weapon.
00:08:44
Speaker
is presumably some amount of cold damage on top of the regular damage. So this is all still the mole? Yes. OK. So how much cold damage? It just says this is a plus one icy burst maul. Right. This says an icy burst weapon functions as a frost weapon. So I also need to know what a frost weapon is. D&D 3.5 frost weapon. So D12.
00:09:15
Speaker
Extra 1d6 point of cold damage. It's an extra 1d6 point of cold damage. Right. Good job. Additionally, on a critical hit. One, two thumbs. Got a whole keyboard over there. What? In addition to a critical hit, when you do a critical hit with that, Frost explodes from the weapon. Everything it touches, real slippery. It deals 1d10 points of cold damage.
00:09:51
Speaker
It doesn't say to what radius it explodes in. I think maybe that's just flavorful. It does extra cold damage. Oh, I see. So an extra 110 cold damage. For a great club, I think it's a D12. Go ahead and give me another roll for the next weapon.
00:10:15
Speaker
Okay, so that's just a 12. 12. So we'll say this is on the staff of Magma Falls, or the... The Glaive. The Glaive. The Glaive of something something. Glacial. Nope, darkest depths. The normal Glaive of darkest depths.
00:10:32
Speaker
That's actually kind of fine that you didn't get the property on the Glaive because it's super cool for on this plane, but you won't be using it here. It's useless on the other. So you get it installed, but the kind of transformative glowy stuff doesn't happen. So you get the sense that it's installed, but you didn't get everything out of the installation. So go ahead and roll for the sword. Lame tongue sword. OK.
00:11:02
Speaker
And that's a 12. So kind of a shot. It's actually fine. It was what would have unlocked is the ability to make the step. Basically, it turns it into sting from Lord of the Rings, but for possessed creatures, which.
00:11:25
Speaker
You know what you're about to get into going into this plane, so you don't really need an alarm system. Okay, so all the stones are installed. You all are- Sorry, I need a bit of clarification because it's hard for me to listen in right at the same time because I'm a simple man.
00:11:41
Speaker
What is the thing that happens that allows them all to give a plus six bonus to strength? And is that a plus six bonus to your attack roll? To your strength. So. Plus six to my. Your actual strength. So from 11 to 17. Right. So I would go from like a one to a three. And you'd go from a plus zero to a plus three. That's a zero? Yes, 11 is a plus zero. I haven't really done a lot of strength stuff in my life, so it's okay that I've been doing that wrong for a hundred and a half years. So a plus four would go to. What?
00:12:11
Speaker
What's your base score? 18. 18, so that would go up to a 24. So that would be a plus six, plus eight. No, plus seven. Plus seven. For 10 minutes. For 10 minutes. And it's just you can invoke it one time. Once per day. And it's awesome. Or once per lung rest. All right. And our characters know all these things as well? Yes. All right. I can't use the character because it's all about math.
00:12:42
Speaker
If it's okay, instead of the spear, since it, excuse me, I'd like to take the mall since it can boost my crappy strength when I do need to use it. I don't care. I've got the sword. I'm only going to be, I'm really, I'm just going to be carrying it until it's time to take it to the machine though. I think that's most of us. I mean, I'm using the sword, but cool.

Preparation for Plane Travel Ritual

00:13:02
Speaker
You know what? How about I just put them all in my bag and I'll pull them out when we need them. Unless you want one to battle with, but if you'd be happier with your crossbow,
00:13:10
Speaker
I suppose good right and then I would also ask the money which one if she would like to hold one now for fighting or just to save it for she's good with her fists so yeah so okay we've got the mall we've got the spear the glaive and the sword sword okay
00:13:38
Speaker
Um, so yeah, you all presumably kind of hold up just outside the faded forest to do all of this. And now it's time to head to the tomb. Unless you all want to go into town for any reason. I mean, absolutely not. OK, so I just think we deserve some downtime. I mean, you probably had to visit your domain at some point.
00:14:07
Speaker
I mean, here's the thing, if we make it through, the first thing I'm going to do is go lay down in my own bed in Miss Marsh. I mean, really? You want to lay down in the bed in that house? Didn't you order that house burned down? I did order that house burned down. I had another place that I lived, I have to assume, at some point. You know what? Honestly, the bed in the boat's more my bed now than. Yeah. What are we doing? There's more important things to worry about right now. So you all have traversed this path through the faded forest enough to where
00:14:36
Speaker
It's not really necessary to make any kind of checks to follow the path. You know what to look for in terms of the goblin markings. We're not even marginally concerned about dancing shadows. We're like, yeah, yeah, real cool. It's creepy dancing shadows. We're going to go deal with something. Bring it. OK, so you come upon the tomb for the Knights of Jarsharat.
00:15:00
Speaker
And it's as you left it, the door is open and you are able to navigate your way back through it. It seems that the goblins have abandoned this site some time ago. The smell of cooking meat and chattering of goblins that was present the first time you came through here is no longer present.
00:15:26
Speaker
So, yeah, you you managed to make your way all the way through and you find yourself staring at the white oak archway that you first saw the lich come through that took Jacob. So it's going to take the money probably about it's a it's a ritual that she has to do to activate this to make sure that you all end up where you need to be. There's a few roles that she has to do.
00:15:54
Speaker
Take how long I'm sorry about an hour because it's a ritual level spell sure so I guess we could have said that she was doing this while you all were Taking care of the stones, but I'm sure if we had known we would have said that yes, that's all right Okay Eric is just going to sit down cross-legged in front of the arch and just
00:16:21
Speaker
So you see her and the kind of astral projection of Kitesh manifesting outside of her, both manipulating the white oak archway, carving different runes and things like that into it. But yeah, give me an arcana check as you kind of watch. That's not your forte, but.
00:16:48
Speaker
Ten. Ten. Something about these runes looks familiar. You you recognize these. Beric, I'll let you make one with disadvantage in our comic check because you were kind of there's.
00:17:04
Speaker
A secondary nature to why you would be able to make this role you guys are making all these brainiac checks and with no brain Well, Dex is swinging that mall man. Oh, I think I get it Disadvantage yeah 20 20 yes, so 21 21 So I mean you're it's nothing
00:17:28
Speaker
like earth shattering. But you recognize these runes are during your time with Booyah of trying to figure out how he disabled the obelisks and things like that. The runes are familiar and the order is very familiar. It seems like whatever magic was imbued with the especially the big obelisk that you all have now seen kind of open up.
00:17:53
Speaker
portals, essentially. This is the same basic magic that they're doing on the archway to try and open up a portal to Dal Kor. Interesting. I just forgot all about that. It's more of muscle memory at this point for Booyah. He knows what to do, but he doesn't know why, like.
00:18:11
Speaker
You're a mechanic, not an engineer. True. So, yeah, close to an hour passes by and as Kitesh continues to work, kind of manifesting out of Bhimani's body, Bhimani turns to you and says, it'll be any moment now. Prepare yourselves. That's not a rule to prepare. I dropped a dice.
00:18:36
Speaker
And she continues, there is the slightest of chances, as is with any kind of magic like this, that we will be separated in transport. Based on what I've accomplished, aka the roles that she's made, that shouldn't happen.
00:19:00
Speaker
The odds are greatly in our favor that that will not but just fair warning We did you all give ever give her a sending stone
00:19:11
Speaker
I think we've had the opportunity to make her wine. Since we met her, we basically bammed around. Kitech will know his way around the plane and you all will be able to communicate easily enough with each other. So it should not be a problem if we are mildly separated. But based on Booyah has the sending spell so Booyah can contact you if once we find each other.
00:19:39
Speaker
Excellent. And there should not be any risk. This ritual sometimes can result in being sent to different planes, but based on what we've accomplished, that is not a problem. That is not a concern.

Dream Scenarios and Reality Questions

00:19:51
Speaker
All right. It feels like a concern to me. Are there landmarks? Is there anything to navigate by?
00:20:01
Speaker
Unfortunately, without knowledge of the plane itself, there are different dreamscapes that, if you know how to view them, can serve as guides. But unfortunately, to the naked eye, they change every night based on the dreams of those that occupy them. So we will just have to
00:20:30
Speaker
hope that we jump over together, but your sending stones will work as long as you are all on the same plane. All right. All right. Dex reaches into his pocket, pulls out his IU in stone. He's like, I mean, I don't know. Throws it up. Eric. Haven't used it yet. Eric stands up.
00:21:00
Speaker
Gets off, takes off of his, takes off his pack. It's got like his mother's journal and little Raven statue and lots of other little trinkets that we have. So many ball bearings. He just walks over and he sets it at the base of a nearby tree. Okay. And then comes back over and stands in front of the doorway. Uh, and she's the sword.
00:21:32
Speaker
Okay. Well, yeah. I think maybe we pass weapon now in case do get separate in case we get separate. Oh, I'm sorry. We should do what pass out the weapon now in case we get separate, Eric tosses the spear to bemani who seems most likely to use a spear.
00:21:57
Speaker
And he's got the sword and I'd like them all, so I guess I hand you the... the super tall weapon. That doesn't work, yeah. Does it immediately shrink? Like, does the sword resized? It resized to a medium-sized humanoid, because it was designed to transfer between elves and giants. Oh, that's true. Well, I mean, surely, yeah.
00:22:21
Speaker
I mean, I guess we have not had to get special goblin weapons. Right. So you can handle an elf weapon. It just looks silly, but it's not an impedance because you're wild strong. So that's true. And you can fly. I can hover fly very short distance. You know what? Honestly, if you right now are Randy started to hover in this room, I'd probably tell people I thought you fly.
00:22:50
Speaker
That'd get me there, as far as descriptively. Sure. I'd also run. I have no idea what this glaive does. That's true. We have never had stats for the glaive. Never had glaive stats. The glaive is, so plus two vicious. Or it could be Vorpal.
00:23:21
Speaker
Prefer vicious. And the kind of base ability of this thing is once per long rest, you can plane shift yourself and up to five other willing travelers to the ethereal plane or from the ethereal plane to the material plane. Once per what? Long rest.
00:23:46
Speaker
It kind of fits booty up. Yeah. Um, I wanted, you know, when we use these weapons to break the machine they're using to hold back the change of the age, uh, will the weapons be destroyed?
00:24:04
Speaker
I cannot say for certain, but I do know that the notion is that essentially we will be unleashing the power contained within these stones into the machine, so at the very least the stones will be drained if not destroyed. I cannot speak for the weapons, though.
00:24:24
Speaker
Seems unlikely they would survive that process. Yes. I was just curious. These weapons were made for the explicit purpose that we are now employing them for. Not much use for them after. Okay. Are you all ready? As one can be.
00:24:51
Speaker
All right. And she turns and walks through the portal. Eric follows. Yeah, sure. I'll go next. We got runs away. Yeah. Follows through the eyes turn purple and you see this red wolf red wolf in. Yes. Um, okay.
00:25:18
Speaker
So each of you walks through the portal. I am going to need... Does this teleport? Do we have to make a percentage roll? No. Teleport percentage roll is hilarious sometimes. I need...
00:25:47
Speaker
Jeff and Philip to go downstairs and make yourselves busy. Oh, really? Really. OK. I mean, I haven't been here yet. I'm a snoop. Yeah. Watch your head. Good. Hello, Randy. Hi. It all falls under your shoulders. Great. No, not really. So you walk through the white oak portal.
00:26:17
Speaker
And after a moment, all of a sudden, your eyes open and you kind of sit up and look around and you find yourself back in Zendric on a very simple cot, kind of a ratty, overused blanket. And you look around and pass the doorway of the small room that you've been appointed, you see a Drow warrior walk past.
00:26:46
Speaker
Just unassuming. And you see plainer justice on table next to you where you would have sat it. Simple bag, just your stuff.
00:27:08
Speaker
So this is back when I was captive and helping. What's his name? Elodrin. Elodrin. Yeah. So you wake up and things that you know. It's not particularly late. You haven't slept in or anything, but you know that you and Elodrin are planning on doing some more experimentation on the large crystal, trying to figure out what powers it.
00:27:34
Speaker
and seeing if it really is going to be capable of powering some form of resurrection magic. That was what was on the docket today. And that Eladrin's son, Drakir, kind of freaks you out, has been gone for some time on a mission that you don't really know much about, and Eladrin has been... He hasn't said anything, but you can tell that he's worried about Drakir.
00:28:07
Speaker
And I still have all my current memories of what we've done. No. Well, it seems faint like like you've just woken up from the most gnarly intense dream that you've ever had. OK. All right. Well, but you kind of shake it off like that was weird.
00:28:27
Speaker
OK, so and you're you're actually kind of concerned because part of your dream was that Elodrin died. So you kind of want to get in there and take a look. Yeah, so. We got hops up and heads to find Elodrin. OK, so yeah, you navigate the kind of cavernous hallways that the the drow have
00:28:50
Speaker
carved out in this place. And after like 30 seconds of kind of rushing around, you enter the big chamber and you see the large crystal still with the pinkish yellowish light swirling around within it. And you see Eldrin at his desk table. Obviously the drought don't have to sleep. You do. So it seems like Eldrin's been working for a bit. So, yeah.
00:29:16
Speaker
Booyah goes up to Eladrin and Eladrin, you're okay, Booyah had bad dream. You're okay, though. And dream, you die in Booyah dream. Scare Booyah. Oh, you had a bad dream? I'm sorry about that. You die. Does Booyah know anything about Beric at all?
00:29:39
Speaker
I mean, once again, it's all kind of dream. No, I mean, he's like, he doesn't know that Elodrin has. Elodrin hasn't ever really. OK, so yeah, dream. Yeah, bad dream. You die. Save other. Elf type person. Really?
00:30:03
Speaker
Interesting. We use magic work on, put on stand and the variant and with just bad thing happen, Booyah help people, others tries to save world from Quarry. Huh. Interesting. Well, it's normal that you would, part of your dream would be us saving somebody using this because that's kind of what we've been working on. Has it not?
00:30:33
Speaker
This is true. So what we're going to be needing to do today, Booyah. Are you OK? Yeah, Booyah, OK. OK. What we need to be doing today is I have some of the kyber crystals that we've been collecting in the caverns. We're going to strap you up to go to the crack that's up there and see if you can siphon off some of the energy from the large crystal into one of the kyber crystals.
00:31:01
Speaker
That sound good? Yeah, we are ready. Go ahead and give me a wisdom check. 24. Natural 20. So yeah, you start to grab the kyber crystals and strap in, and you kind of look back at Eldrin, and some things
00:31:24
Speaker
You can't put your finger on it, but something's off about Elodrin. Like not, he's acting weird. Like something about the way that you, that Elodrin was yesterday before you went to bed. Something's different now that you're like, uh, since you got a natural, well, what, what would you like to do? I was going to say, could I use that to make him tell me what's up? What's going on? Um,
00:31:52
Speaker
Once again, it's not something that he's doing, it's something about his person, something about his essence. Then I figure it out then. He doesn't sound right.
00:32:09
Speaker
You do. And this is me speaking to Randy. Do you ever have those moments where like somebody that you've made me talk to like like a coworker or something 100 times before, like they say a certain phrase and it makes you like hyper aware of their voice and like the way that they sound and something sounds a little off kilter. It's kind of like that where like you know what eligible sounds like. And it's not like he sounds dress, but something just sounds off, if that makes sense. So.
00:32:41
Speaker
Can I do an insight check? No, let's go ahead and just keep rolling with it for now. You just put that in the back of your head. One of the Drow Assistants comes over and kind of hooks the rope onto your back. He's like, okay, are you ready, Booyah? Booyah, ready? Go. All right. You're kind of shot up in the air by this pulley system.
00:33:02
Speaker
go up to the crack and you kind of start shoving kyber crystals into the crack and you actually see energy begin filling up this kyber crystal. So and you're about 20 feet up, so Elodrine can't quite see what's happening himself. We all think working energy fill up.
00:33:22
Speaker
Excellent, excellent. I'd go ahead and fill the rest of them up if you can, and we'll bring you down. Okay, we are working. You also, as you're working, kind of looking down, speaking to Elegrin, you see another drow walk in and walk up to Elegrin and kind of whisper to him. And Elegrin looks up at you and kind of like half smiles. And he like nods and sends the drow away.
00:33:50
Speaker
Um, so you get lowered back down, um, after you fill them up. Um, and Elodrin takes the Kyber crystals from you and says, so I have to ask, are you, are you happy here with your, your work and what, what we're doing? Boy, I have no place else go. No family. You, you treat, we are good. Boy, I'm happy here. Yeah. If, um,
00:34:22
Speaker
If the opportunity arose for you to go somewhere else, do something else. Obviously, I believe greatly in the work that we're doing here. Trying to use this to bring people back from the burning key without body, just compel souls back to our plane. If you were given the chance, would you leave or would you continue the work that we're doing here?
00:34:50
Speaker
And we all have say depend on what reason for leave be. If something important help us more, we all go. Okay. Um, so Elodrine kind of spawns as well. Um,
00:35:14
Speaker
I know that you've told me about your journey here and how obviously Lee's Drow treated you and that's terrible, but even before that point. And I've had some of my scouts just mandated to keep an eye out for anything that might be of note. And we think we might have had a bit of a breakthrough. So follow me.
00:35:40
Speaker
and he starts to walk out of the doorway to outside in between this like structure and the ring of storms that surrounds the Cabarin area. And he kind of beckons you to follow him. Okay. Give me another wisdom check. 11. 11. Okay. Once again, like,
00:36:10
Speaker
Elodran's like talking weird about like, he has treated you well, but there's never been like the option to leave, I guess. Like everything about this situation, the way the drow are acting, like none of them have like sneered at you or like giving you bad vibes, but at the same time, like Elodran,
00:36:35
Speaker
Eligin would never have spoken to you, you feel like about the prospect of leaving, of going and doing something else. So things still just aren't quite adding up. So.
00:36:50
Speaker
You exit. You follow. Yes. You see him around the corner and as you follow him, you see him standing there with a couple of other drow and they are surrounded like it seems like they've been leading through the ring of storms, a group of goblins. That look very similar to you like they. They seem to be like in the garb of like your tribe and things like that.
00:37:21
Speaker
probably from the same region as Zendric. Give me a perception or insight check. Which one did you go with? Perception. Perception. 26. So yeah, rolling that, you definitely recognize that like your first tribe, like before the Orc attack, before your village got burned down,
00:37:48
Speaker
These are your people. And as you kind of around the corner and are surveying them, they all look at you and there's a air familiarity. You get the sense that maybe like some of them recognize you.
00:38:07
Speaker
And you might, and it's not, you made it out alive, so it's not unreasonable that other goblins made it out of the village, but there's probably at least a dozen standing around these drow. And you see the crowd part, and emerging from them, you see a very young goblin that you recognize. And his jaw just kind of drops and he starts sprinting to you.
00:38:39
Speaker
Booyah moves toward him. Okay. So he obviously lunges into an embrace and says Dula, Dula, Dula find Booyah. Booyah find son Dula. You well son? Dula help people. Booyah still help. Booyah help.
00:39:05
Speaker
Booyah help Elodrin, but you know, Booyah take care of Booyah. Dolla need take care of Dolla. No, Dula help everyone. Dula help Booyah. Dula always help everybody. Wisdom check. 23.
00:39:34
Speaker
There's obviously elation, happiness, joy, everything. And then there's a moment that everything kind of finally falls into place. Elagrin's voice not being quite right, the drought treating you and these other goblins differently. And the final thing is
00:40:03
Speaker
Dula hasn't aged a day since you last saw him. And your heart goes kinda heavy as you, everything kinda comes rushing back to you.
00:40:16
Speaker
and you understand what's going on that you stepped into the plane of dreams and unfortunately it seems like this may be some kind of trick or trap to keep you docile to keep you in a dreamscape to keep you from
00:40:43
Speaker
seeing through your purpose and as your heart kind of grows heavy your body also grows heavy as like the pack and the things that you collected and the glaive that was strapped to your back all of a sudden begin to almost weigh you down like this this purpose that you've gained since the day before
00:41:05
Speaker
This day, like the day that you're living out was actually the day that. Drake here came back with a corpse and you didn't quite understand what was going on and you lost Elodrin. And so basically it's time to wake up, so.
00:41:22
Speaker
It's not like everything sluffs away. Like Dula is still standing there. Like you, he is real to you. Like you feel him. He is there. You see Elodrin kind of smiling and talking to the other goblins. So you can have a moment before you wake up basically if you want. Okay. So obviously he's now that he's aware of what's going on. He, uh,
00:41:52
Speaker
Bends down to Dula and says, Dula, you keep, Booyah say, you keep do good. You always do good. You teach father do good. Booyah been doing best can. Booyah tried save real world and you, Dula, you keep being Dula. No change. Dula kind of looks at you quizzically and
00:42:21
Speaker
Stay here with Dula. Booyah and Dula help. Everyone. Booyah going to help everyone. Booyah do best to help everyone. Booyah must go help. You keep, be Dula. Booyah go now. Hugs him. And you hear Dula start to cry at the prospect of you leaving. Yeah, but I think since Booyah's aware of what this is, he snaps out of it.
00:42:49
Speaker
So yeah, you hug your son one last time and as you kind of make the conscious choice to break away, you find yourself standing after a moment in just kind of stark white and you start to look around and you don't immediately see anybody.
00:43:14
Speaker
So you've just stepped through the white oak arch and as soon as you step through everything goes dark. And then after a beat you open your eyes and you sit up and kind of survey and look around your room and you kind of shake off this really intense
00:43:36
Speaker
feeling that you just had a very, very buck wild dream, like kind of a feverish... You said I look around the room, so I'm indoors? You're in your house. Okay. And you kind of twist and stretch and you look around the room and you see your leather armor and your rapier sitting nearby, your basic pack. And you know, it's...
00:44:03
Speaker
typical day, the only things that you really have on the docket, you know that you need to go to work basically is the only thing that really is on your mind. You haven't slept in or anything, you woke up at your normal hour, so you just need to head down to the sheriff's station to report into Albin and probably meet up with the other deputies to get to work.
00:44:30
Speaker
Do I have any sense of recollection of like going home the night before or anything like that? Yeah, I mean, it was it was a normal like because Dex has a thing if he because it happens to him sometimes where he wakes up without much of memory, checks his hands real quick to see what he looks like. Yeah, you're in Lyle form. I'm assuming you sleep in Lyle form.
00:44:50
Speaker
Otherwise, in case of emergency, somebody busts into waking up. So, yeah, I mean, it's like it was a typical day the day before. Farlin was kind of a be-hole, but other than that, nothing, nothing too crazy. I wouldn't, though. OK, so, yeah, I guess I just strap on my kit. OK.
00:45:16
Speaker
Um, so you had basically across the street to the sheriff's office. Um, unsurprisingly, you see, um, um, you see Julian Farah and Jacob running around the street as normal playing the only three children in town. Um, and, uh, also unsurprisingly, you see the very enthusiastic tiefling that you work with your Konos sitting on the porch and he kind of sees you in like waves.
00:45:45
Speaker
Hey, man. Hey! Uh... Eric's already inside. Alright, alright, alright. Have you seen anything so far? Uh, no. Uh, Graham's in there, but that's nothing new. Alright. Okay, I think that he would probably... would go into check-in or whatever it is he has to do. Now, I mean, obviously...
00:46:15
Speaker
Jeff knows this is a dream. Is there anything that would tip Dex off right now? Or does it just feel like? Go ahead and give me a wisdom check. OK. Because I know when you're in a dream, you don't know you're in a dream until you do. And then all of a sudden, everything changes. So if he doesn't know he's in a dream, then he doesn't. Wisdom? Yep. OK. That's a natural 20. OK. So the big thing that I will point out for your success is Draconis's voice.
00:46:46
Speaker
seems just a little off. Like he sounds just, but not like, not like he sounds like this, but like. Oh, right. I mean, it's like the cat's talking to me kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah. It's just like what this is, is loosening up the wheels so that eventually I might figure it out in a minute. I'm with you. That sounds good. So it's still not suspicious of me. What would you like to do with your 20? Oh, I guess just have this go well.
00:47:14
Speaker
I don't know, I always roll 20s at the worst times. If you can think of something, I'm happy to listen. Otherwise, let's just say I succeeded and move on. Okay. So yeah, you walk in and you see Albin sitting behind the desk looking just remarkably bored. As Graham stands before him, he's like,
00:47:37
Speaker
Well, my locket went missing, and I just, I have a sense that somebody took it, and I would really appreciate it if you looked into this. And Alvin's like, fine. We'll have somebody look into it. Just, Beric, Lyle, Graham's locket went missing. Mmm, does anything, I mean, that's...
00:48:03
Speaker
The inciting incident of some very real things for Dex. So I think at this point, at the very least, subconscious Dream Dex, that would be interesting and important to him. Because locket is a word for him. Don't give me a wisdom saving throw. All right. Wisdom check. OK. I was just going to say that Dex would take an interest and go up and listen to her story. But I will roll for you. That's an unnatural 20. Unnatural 20. OK. Yeah. 17. And a plus 3.
00:48:32
Speaker
So, yeah, the the locket thing kind of twinkles in the back of your mind. And yeah, I mean, it's it's Gramby and Graham Barrett kind of looks at you in shrugs and nothing better to do. Yeah, sure. All right. All right, Graham. I'm assuming she described it to ask her follow up questions. And you say the last thing you remember is having it at home.
00:48:59
Speaker
yes yes it was it was in my house and it's just it's I looked for it this morning you can't find it sure well you know we'll do everything we can would you like us to come over and see if we can find any evidence of entry that you might have missed yes if you want to come to my house and take a look around you can I didn't notice anything but you're obviously more capable than me in such things I got what you might call a trained eye
00:49:26
Speaker
Well, yeah, sure. I mean, yeah, we'll head there. Barrick, you want to go take care of this one, too? Does Barrick come? Yeah, I'll come with you. All right. And as soon as you walk out to George, you're kind of like, where are you going? Come on. So you all are walking down the street. You see, give me a perception check as you're walking down the main main road on Miss Marsh.
00:49:55
Speaker
Twenty eight. Twenty eight. So out of the corner of your eye, you spot somebody kind of walking out from between two buildings like just behind you that you look over your shoulder and you see a kind of older woman. It doesn't seem like she has seen you not as old as Graham, but probably 20 to 30 years your senior.
00:50:23
Speaker
and she seems to be walking towards the sheriff's office, but something catches your eye about her, a familiarity, but nothing like
00:50:37
Speaker
Nothing compels you to go after her. It's just kind of a. With, yeah, I mean, it's another person walking, but something. And she, you do not recognize her. This is like the level of, did I see her at the gym one time? Kind of thing. Gotcha. Sure. Well, then I wouldn't turn around and follow her. Okay. Graham's and, um, you know, check for.
00:50:57
Speaker
Check for broken door jams, taste the dirt, you know, cop things. So after a solid 20 minutes of going around Graham's not large house, you have satisfied her that it's clear that nobody broke into her house. There's no signs of forced entry anywhere, no signs of reckless egress or anything like that. So but she's still very concerned about her locket.
00:51:29
Speaker
Well, Graham, I understand. I do. I would hate to... I guess this... Now, is this valuable or sentimental value? Oh, it's just, it's my locket. Like, I don't want to... I don't want to pot with it. Sure thing, sure thing, sure thing. See, that's the old next one to know how much it's worth. Well, yeah, I mean, I guess we'll go to the... We can go down to the Red Wolf, ask around, see if anybody's, you know, coming to a little bit of money or something.
00:51:59
Speaker
You, has anybody ever told you that they really like admire it or anything like that? Been a little too obvious about it. Honestly, I mean, I don't know that anybody would be aware of it. I don't wear it, wear it regularly. I don't have it on prominent display. It's normally in a small box in my desk. All right, well, they're...
00:52:23
Speaker
And I'm assuming we, she showed us where she keeps it. Like you don't have to go look there now. And as you're talking, you're continuously, you and Draconos are standing there, like engaged with her and you have to constantly get Barrett to stop hearing it. All the books that Graham has on her shell. Sure, sure, sure. Classic. Loves to read that guy. It'd be a shame if that goes away.
00:52:46
Speaker
I guess I just say, yeah, so we'll, uh, you know, you sit tight and we'll keep looking for it. I'll ask around clearly not here. Nothing we can do here for you. So, um, anything else you need from us? We'll just keep looking. All right. No, no, that's fine. All right.
00:53:05
Speaker
So where do you go now? I guess, yeah, the Red Wolf. OK, so you head across Main Street at kind of a diagonal and walk into the Red Wolf Inn. You see the typical typical folk. Trant is is there, as is Gregor Farlin is having some drinks.
00:53:30
Speaker
Nobody seems to be too inebriated that is, you know, midday at this point, but, um, yeah, people are just sitting around. Walking. Everybody goes, Lyle. Did they come with me? Yeah. Okay. All right. Uh,
00:53:53
Speaker
I guess first things first, I'd go up to the Gregor and ask for a drink. Oh, yeah. And he's washing that glass and he stops for a moment. And Porgia never uses the glass. He's washing. It's dirty. No, it's so clean. It's actually thinner than the rest of the glassware. Friction. OK, so as he hands you your drink,
00:54:21
Speaker
Go ahead and give me another wisdom check. Oh, this is going to be the one I beef. They went too well the first two times. No, that's a 17 plus three. That's a 20. OK, so yeah, you're kind of looking around and you realize that, like, there's no fight. There's nobody shouting. It's kind of peaceful in here.
00:54:46
Speaker
And that just doesn't, it's like, that's not my Red Wolf. It's something like, maybe everybody just, you know, decided to get along today. I said, Barrick, when you say it's almost too quiet. I don't know. He said, what? No. The people are talking quite loudly, in fact. We've not quite built the report you were familiar with. So after a moment, you take a drink. The door to the Red Wolf opens, and the woman that you caught sight of walks in.
00:55:16
Speaker
And she kind of scans the room and then locks eyes with you and. She kind of stops for a moment like she wasn't moving, but you know what I'm saying like she. And give me an insight check.
00:55:36
Speaker
I'm killing it. I don't know what to tell you. And you're seeing them with your own eyeballs this time. Insight is also wisdom. So twenty two. Twenty two. You get the sense that she is about to break down in tears as she's looking at you. And. She.
00:55:59
Speaker
I would start probably, if not moving towards her, making it clear that she can come over one of the two. So, well, which would you rather, would you rather go to her and kind of create some separation or let her come to you? I think I would offer to have her come first. If she, under the guise of we are the police, would you like to come talk to us? And if she doesn't, then I would go to her. So she sits down and kind of,
00:56:27
Speaker
It's clear that she's trying to keep her composure and she kind of regards Beric and Draconos and she looks at you and says, um, can we have a moment of privacy? That was initial privacy. All right. I go, Oh yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Hey fellas, I'm going to go grab a seat over here for a minute with this woman. They don't think that's too. Um,
00:56:54
Speaker
So you all find a booth near the back and sit down and she's looking, sitting across the table and she looks at me and is like, I really didn't think that I was going to find you. Do I recognize this woman? Once again, there's a familiarity there, but nothing that you can. OK. I just thought maybe with some actual closeness and study.
00:57:23
Speaker
What are you talking about? I've been here. I live here. This is my town. I don't know. Find me what she kind of glances around and then looks looks you in the eye. And after a moment, her eyes change. And it's very clear that she was skillful at her cover, but that it's it's your mom's eyes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought it might be my mom's eyes. Yeah.
00:57:55
Speaker
I'm trying to think of, I remember what Dex things happened to his mom or knows happened to his mom right now. I cannot remember if we ever talked about it. So I don't want to beef it and make something up now. I don't think we ever really discussed it. Just that they were victims in, in, in, in, in my head, it was Dex left and assumes she's dead by now because what happened to the continent? Yeah. So I think that's what I'll say. What the hell? I thought you were dead.
00:58:25
Speaker
No, your dad and I made it out. We found passage on a ship and we're kind of lost for a while. Where have you been?
00:58:44
Speaker
On the run, we tried making our way in different places that we thought would be more welcoming to changelings, but it turned out to not be true. What about the others? What about Trent and Connor and James? I'm worried that they're...
00:59:12
Speaker
They're lost. Yeah, that's the impression I've been under, too. Where's Dad? And I start looking around to see which one I think is Dad. Farlin' turns. She kind of stops her moments like, it's been a hard road. But I started hearing murmurings and tried to,
00:59:40
Speaker
track you down. Spent some time in Thrain and heard a tale of Thieves Guild that fell out with a changeling and kind of followed the trail from there. Elaborate on the trail, Eric. I want to know how somebody knew to get to Miss Marsh to find me. No, I guess what I'll say is
01:00:03
Speaker
Well, all right. I mean, here's the thing. I live here now and it's peaceful and it's quiet. And you're the first person to put any sort of, you know, string together that I'm hearing only because you were out trying to. Wow, that hit the table. Eighteen. As you're talking in the back of your head, your question to me of like, give me the trail like kind of is like. That.
01:00:31
Speaker
Yeah, there wouldn't have been a trail like, yeah, it just doesn't add up. I think he still starts saying the things he was saying, like, yeah, this is home and I live here now and think it's safe here. So if you want to hang out. Who told you I was here? I mean. Nobody like pointed and said the changeling went this way, it took a long time, it took years to to track you down, but.
01:01:00
Speaker
I'm here now and what you don't understand is there's no way for someone to track me down. I created this whole cloth a day before I came into this town. There's no way to find me, especially not somebody who's on the run with no resources.
01:01:27
Speaker
And the other thing is, Dex is now thinking, I can also make my eyes look like my mom's eyes, right? So, who are you and how'd you find me? At this point, just because of your general attitude, I'm gonna say, as soon as you say that, with that kind of timber in your voice, you kind of blink your eyes and when you reopen them, you're just surrounded by stark white.
01:01:56
Speaker
like kind of the dreamscape that you were in is gone.

Listener Appreciation and Social Media Promo

01:02:01
Speaker
And you look around and the only other person you kind of see in the distance, not like a tiny dot, but like fairly separated is you see Booyah also kind of looking around confused.
01:02:15
Speaker
After a moment of you stepping through the portal, you kind of feel yourself being teleported, transported. And then after a moment, your eyes kind of wake up and you see your, you kind of sink and you're like, of course, this, of course this happened. You see yourself in Dolor. Oh, good.
01:02:37
Speaker
I'm clearly not dead, like it's not like the other times. I'm not going back this time, guys. Done. You'll find your cure. But yeah, you see the kind of shadowy version of the faded forest and the arch and everything like you just literally stepped through on the other side. And you kind of look back at the portal and it's clear that it's not activated to go.
01:03:06
Speaker
the other way, if that makes sense. Yeah. I look around. Give me a perception check.
01:03:24
Speaker
Seventeen. Seventeen. So you kind of glancing around, you spot what looks to be some form of a trail that you could reasonably follow towards. I mean, you obviously know that there are people that populate this plane, so sure. And most of them aren't outright hostile to you. Fair enough. So. OK, either.
01:03:55
Speaker
Either I'm dead or a very minute insignificant chance that we shouldn't have to worry about has happened. Or this is a dream because we're going to a plane of dreams. So why shouldn't a dream look like this? So there's nothing to do but go forward and see what plays out. And so I will start
01:04:25
Speaker
following the path. Okay. Sword drawn. Say you have your sword drawn as you walk down the path. It's probably a solid
01:04:39
Speaker
Five to 10 minutes of walking down the path, reacting to every noise that comes about before you spot ahead of you some significant enough movement to warrant your attention. It seems like a person crossed the trail in front of you. Do I see anything? Can I make out anything about that person?
01:05:06
Speaker
They seem to be physically present like they're in the plane. It's not like an apparition or something. Give me a perception. Twenty three. Twenty three. It seems to be based on the the physical look at this distance. It's it is a shatar kai that you spotted. Give me a wisdom check real quick. Check. Yes.
01:05:36
Speaker
11. OK. See, you're walking through and you kind of think something to yourself that you may be the only person in the entirety of existence that can think. Doleur doesn't seem. There's something off about it like you've been here enough to know what the plane of Doleur is like. What kind of check would it be to try and identify what's wrong?
01:06:05
Speaker
um investigation for just something just something um something feels off huh okay are my pants on yes okay i have pants on thought i would just check you have everything that you had with you when you went through the portal okay okay um
01:06:31
Speaker
Are my teeth falling out? No. Okay. I will continue down the path then. Okay. So yeah, after another five minutes or so, you see an encampment up ahead, like some tents, things like that set up. You see some other Shaddar Kai milling about, so it's clear that this is some kind of encampment for them. Okay. I will proceed towards them. Okay.
01:07:00
Speaker
Um, so once you get within, um, like loud talking range, um, you can start to hear voices communicating. Um, you hear, um, words like battle and, um, uh, losses. Uh, just, I mean, it's war talk going on. Um, as you get close enough to the encampment to be noticed, uh, some begin to turn and see you.
01:07:28
Speaker
And one kind of rushes down the path towards you, not in an aggressive manner. Are you, are you Beric? It's the mask, isn't it? It was described to some of us. Yes. We were, we were hoping you would come.
01:07:57
Speaker
Well, I've come twice before, and to be quite honest, I was hoping I would not come. Well, we're in need of you right now. I see. I'm not supposed to be here. I'm supposed to be on Dal Kor. I don't know anything about that.
01:08:23
Speaker
Perhaps the general would know something. And so he kind of gestures for you to follow.
01:08:36
Speaker
So you walk into this Shatter kai war camp tent set up armorers blacksmiths working diligently trying to get things ready You see a couple war machines being constructed. Give me another wisdom check Nine
01:09:00
Speaker
Um, yeah, it just it seems very like dire, I guess, like you're you're you grow concerned about what what is going on, like, because obviously you you kind of thought after the business with the Raven that things would have calmed down here.
01:09:20
Speaker
You see a large tent with some heraldry on it, but you can tell me how Beric reacts.
01:09:34
Speaker
It's Raven like banners, but there's a surprise on the uniform like dagger slit through the Raven head. And as you look around, all of the banners have that kind of deliberate mark on them. And the your guide walks up to the. The door flap of the tent says she's she's in there.
01:10:09
Speaker
Is there a problem? Oh, I mean, certainly everything. Yes. Very much problem. I'm not supposed to be here. Something's obviously wrong here. I don't know who's in that tent and not all of that. Yes. All of that's a problem, but here we are. So bear pulls aside the tent flap.
01:10:39
Speaker
Okay. You see five Shatterkai in there, all standing around a large table. And you see Yurik standing kind of at the broad side of the table overlooking the map as these other four Shatterkai talk at her as she's regarding the map. And you see markings and battle plans, things like that. And they all kind of stop and turn.
01:11:07
Speaker
And she kind of lets out a relieved sigh at the side of you. Hello, Beric. Hello. What brings you back? I'm not entirely sure. I'm supposed to be in Dal Kor now. And yet I am not.
01:11:36
Speaker
or seem not to be. Oh, so playing or playing a travel mishap, not how you've come before. I'm not. Well, who knows, frankly, as far as I know, I was not killed. I'm going to give me a wisdom check.
01:12:00
Speaker
Seven progressively moving down by two. Try a different time. Well. I don't know. About your troubles traveling to a plane that, frankly, I thought it was impossible to travel to. But.
01:12:26
Speaker
If you can spare even a moment, we are on the verge of being wiped out. By what? The sorrow swan. I see. We thought, and she kind of gestures you over to look at the table.
01:12:46
Speaker
We thought that with the Raven's defeat, at least temporarily, that the Sars one at least would no longer multiply. But it seems that those assumptions were unfounded. The numbers grow increasingly every day and they threaten, they've already significantly dwindled the Shaddakai numbers.
01:13:12
Speaker
and we are on the verge here we're about to make our last stand and if you have you always had a a mind for this sort of thing in spite of my best efforts so I could really use you don't give me a wisdom check five
01:13:40
Speaker
Still moving down by twos. Um, okay. So, um, let's try something. Okay. A barrack says, Oh, why don't you just try what you did at the battle of Kenfield? This is a made up battle. Okay. Um, she kind of regards you, um, and thinks for a moment.

Go ahead and give me a wisdom saving throw. 25. 25? You said the Battle of Kenfield. The Battle of Kenfield, you say. Yes.
01:14:38
Speaker
So the look on your face is so not convinced. No, I'm just like not at all intensely. But I don't have to be. I don't have to convince you. OK, go ahead and give me a wisdom saving throw with advantage because of that clever business. Even better 26. OK.
01:15:07
Speaker
Um, saving throw or just check a check more than 21. Okay. Um, so, um, she begins searching her memory clearly thinking that it better. You know, that there've been so many battles that, um, they tend to,
01:15:31
Speaker
blur together after a while. I can't quite recall the Battle of Kinfield, though that does sound familiar. What did I do there? Can I make an insight check into this? I'm immune to charm. I need to kind of... There's nothing there.
01:15:57
Speaker
18, 18. See, I clearly she's. Fishing like he doesn't recall the Battle of Kenfield, she's acting like. It's something she should remember, though, so it's kind of. Mm hmm.
01:16:26
Speaker
So Barak is going to, I have no idea what the effect of this would be based on what I suspect is happening here, but Barak would try. Barak sort of reaches up and he takes the mask off and then he focuses his key and I'm going to activate my ability to have true sight. Which is a delightfully vague mechanic.
01:16:56
Speaker
Yeah, and it's also this particular scenario that I put you in. I don't know what it is, but I have a suspicion and I have no idea what the effect of it would be if I'm right.
01:17:13
Speaker
Everything appears to be as it should be, as you kind of focus and use true sight. You're extending there before you, you see some Shatterkai standing around. Nothing seems a mess. Do I pick up on what's wrong with Diller?
01:17:36
Speaker
Sure. Basically, what initially struck you is off the fact that there was like a very clearly marked trail leading you like every time you've been to Dolar, it's just been like, yeah, the void essentially. So the fact that there was like a marked place for you to go isn't normal. Right. Now, whether or not that's because it's apparently wartime in Dolar. But that was the thing that initially struck you is off. So.
01:18:07
Speaker
Uh, okay. Beric says, well, you, um, you essentially just replicated kind of the conqueror's tactics at, um, at the, at the battle of the lawn. I mean, that was,
01:18:36
Speaker
Brilliantly simple. It was first year, first year military academy sort of thing. Is it the same thing? Yeah. Well, she kind of gestures dismissively at that and says, well, calling the conquerors tactics were fine for his particular situation, but we are far too outnumbered to employ any of his tactics in this situation. Go ahead and give me another wisdom check.
01:19:10
Speaker
Natural 20. Okay. So yeah, at this point the jig is kind of up like your suspicions are kind of confirmed at this point that clearly this is not your mom, this is not Dolor.
01:19:28
Speaker
you basically been provided a situation to where you could have been in a dream for a while. Right. So you at this point can wake up at any point if you want to wake up immediately or if you want to do anything else before you leave this version of Doleur that you find yourself in, you're welcome to. Hmm.
01:19:55
Speaker
I mean, he was really here. He would have things to say to his mother. But since it's obviously not actually her, he's not he's not in a place where there would be anything therapeutic to saying something important to his to a fake version of his mother. Yeah. Also, he probably immediately assumes this is a trap of some kind. So seeing the way out, he will choose the way out. OK.
01:20:18
Speaker
So you have the realization that this is not your mother and that nothing about this seems correct. And so as you blink, you open your eyes and find yourself in a stark white space kind of looking about and you see a fair distance from you, equidistant. You see Dex and Booyah also kind of confusedly looking about. End of episode. OK.
