INTRODUCING INSURSEC AFTER DARK WITH TRAVIS KROGER

Transcript

Introduction and Sponsorship

00:00:19
Speaker
Welcome to the ensure sec podcast. You have your hosts Abe Gibson and Ryan Dunn. And today's episode is brought to you by the world's smallest Yeti cup.
00:00:32
Speaker
Small, not because we messed up, but because we can't afford anything bigger. Sorry.

Travis Kroger's New Role

00:00:41
Speaker
Today's episode, we have Mr. Travis Kroger. He's been on it before. Some call him Batman. Some call him Trav Dog. I just call him a friend. Travis, welcome back, bro. How are you? Thanks, Wells. Appreciate it.
00:01:00
Speaker
I thought that was pretty good. So Ryan introduced the host as Abe and Ryan, but the reason that we're recording another podcast with Travis only a few short months after his original episode is that now Travis is technically a host as well. So Travis may fill everybody in on what we got brewing in the next month or two.
00:01:30
Speaker
Yeah.

Insuresec After Dark Concept

00:01:31
Speaker
So, uh, it all started kind of on our discord, uh, the ensure sec discord. And if you're not in it, figure it out, get in there. But we were talking about video games, which is a passion of mine along with cyber insurance. And it turns out there's a lot of overlap between the video gaming community and the cyber insurance community. And so we decided, heck, let's, let's do something.
00:01:58
Speaker
similar to Insuresec, but different and call it Insuresec After Dark, focused on the gaming insurance community overlap. And my goal with all of this is just to bring people together.
00:02:16
Speaker
Yeah, I can't wait for this to be released because number one, I think there is a strong community out there in the insurance world that also loves gaming, but
00:02:30
Speaker
Secondly, if you don't like gaming, I think the visual aspect of this is somewhat intriguing and being able to tune in for a live stream of it and just watch industry professionals be active in their mindset. You know, it can kind of engage better thought processes and also keep you
00:02:55
Speaker
I'm super excited to see this be released and see the guests that we have come on here because I think there's going to be some great conversation but also some good fun there as well.

Humanizing Insurance Through Gaming

00:03:07
Speaker
Yeah, you're gonna see a side of the guests that you haven't seen before, right? The strength and focus of this podcast and the live stream isn't going to be cyber insurance technicalities. It's not going to be diving deep. It's not going to be a scuba dive. It's barely going to be a snorkel. It's more going to be splashing in the kiddie pool, playing
00:03:30
Speaker
football with each other, right? Like it's going to be showing that these are real people, not just machines. These insurance companies, although they're billion dollar industries and companies, they have real people at the helm that are just like you and me. They're into Call of Duty or they're into Forza, whatever it might be. They like playing games in their free time to clear their brain.
00:04:00
Speaker
just like the rest of us. Yeah. Will there, uh, will there be policy form endorsements being thrown around here where you can bet, you know, Hey, if I beat you in this call duty game, then I need that endorsement on my policy. Absolutely. Yeah. If there's, if there's not, I'll be disappointed. We'll, we'll be getting underwriters. We'll be getting heads of, uh, divisions. We'll be getting brokers.
00:04:26
Speaker
Like we'll be getting the whole gambit of people on there. And again, these are people. That's, that's my main goal is just to, to show a lighter side. Right. Violet does a great job on her morning things on LinkedIn. And that just kind of got me thinking, like, there's a whole nother community out there that can see these as people and not just. Okay. Yeah. This is his or her title.
00:04:52
Speaker
So Travis begs the question, what kind of games are going to be played?
00:04:58
Speaker
everything. There's not gonna be a specific genre. There's not gonna be a specific console. There's not gonna be anything specific. It's gonna be whatever the guest is most comfortable with. For the avid gamers, we might hop into a first-person shooter. For the casual people that haven't picked up a game since the original Nintendo, we might play the Nintendo Switch, right? It doesn't really matter to me. It's not about the game. It's more about the conversation,
00:05:29
Speaker
The reality is not everybody's going to enjoy video games, watching a certain type of video game. But my goal is that the underlying commentary is the reason you tune in just to see a different side of the insurance industry and figure out that, again, these are people. Yeah. I bet you people are going to be like, what the hell, video games? These guys are for nerds.
00:05:57
Speaker
But I'm stoked about this. I think it's going to blow up. So I can already feel the hate coming. I can already feel the people. I can feel the pressure behind me. And I just can't wait for it to be extremely intriguing content.

Esports vs Traditional Sports

00:06:14
Speaker
It's going to be intriguing. It's way better than just looking at three people talking and the visuals of it. Yeah, our podcast sucks.
00:06:27
Speaker
So it's going to be really cool. And I can't wait to get the short clips out of it. I can't wait to break this down. I think it'll bring a dimension to LinkedIn that nobody is bringing right now. And you know, just people just just wait. I'm telling you, it's going to be big.
00:06:48
Speaker
Yeah, the thing that I'm probably most excited about is to see that overlap, right? If you look at esports versus the Super Bowl, the large World of Warcraft and the Madden communities, the Call of Duty communities, the Call of Duty World Series, and you see the viewership and you compare that to major sporting events like the Super Bowl or the World Cup.
00:07:15
Speaker
Esports is a player, right? It's, it's coming to the Olympics. Like it's a thing. Um, am I going to be that good? Hell no. No, I'm not at all. I'm,

Gaming for Charity

00:07:25
Speaker
I'm not very good at video games. I just really enjoy it. It's my way of after the, a long stressful day. It's my way of checking out and into another reality. Yeah. I mean, can we anticipate like 36 hour playthroughs of like red dead redemption to campaign?
00:07:44
Speaker
Just stream it for 36 hours, right? Yeah, I'll do that. That's sweet. Really, that's after dark. Yeah. Well after dark. It's going to be fun things like that. And I can also see it being an avenue to raise money for charities. I think that's something that this industry is really good at, is raising money for charities. And this will just be another way to do that. That's part of my vision of the whole thing, just for another way to do good.
00:08:15
Speaker
Do we have a clapping thing in our podcast? I tell you what, you mentioned Madden, Travis. I know we were talking about zombies. I still want to do zombies. But man, if you put me on the 07 Madden and I have Atlanta Falcons,
00:08:47
Speaker
We're going to have to go back a few councils to get to 07 though. Yeah. I mean, we're just about to 27 here. I know. Damn, that hurts to feel. It's a lot of years. Abe's like, what, guys? I was four. Yeah. Yeah.
00:09:08
Speaker
Don't talk about it. If, uh, if people are interested in gaming with you in general, even outside of the podcast, I know we like to play, play with just people in the industry. How can they get in touch with you to get that set up? Uh, the best ways through the discord, um, the ensure sec discord, uh, Ryan's going to create a gaming section for me and after dark one and, uh,
00:09:36
Speaker
If not, that LinkedIn is always great. Travis Kroger on LinkedIn. I think I'm one of two that are there, so you'll find me. Yeah, I don't think Travis Kroger is a very common name. No, there's a felon in California named Travis Kroger, and I think there's a kid that's like 16. Whereas me, I have to share it with somebody famous in my bar somewhat.
00:10:04
Speaker
Yeah, and if you put in Florida, it doesn't really change anything either. No, it doesn't. I'm Ryan Dunn. I'm the 6000th Ryan Dunn in Florida. But hey, I think this is a really cool idea that you came up with Travis. Super excited to get it out there. I think the charity piece
00:10:34
Speaker
is another dynamic that will change the game. And I think it'll create more viewership. Yeah, that's the goal. You've seen the major streamers have a lot of success raising funds for the charity of their choice. And I think the Insureset community will do the same thing. And I think they'll be really instrumental in deciding which charities we want to back. We have such a strong community on

Community-Driven Podcast Approach

00:11:02
Speaker
that Discord that it's
00:11:05
Speaker
It's unlike any other Discord community that I've been in, especially in the insurance industry. There's nothing like it. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty sweet. Pretty sweet. Dude, this is super exciting. Any things that we missed about Insuresk After Dark? Anything we missed? There will likely be some alcohol consumption on some of the episodes.
00:11:32
Speaker
So the live version may be slightly different than the recorded version for
00:11:39
Speaker
legal reasons. So if you want the whole thing, we're going to be to you want to tune in live and not miss it. Otherwise, you'll just see clips on LinkedIn and dang, I wish I was there. But if if you guys have any suggestions, any concerns, if you want to be on it, please reach out to me. This is this is a community event. It's not just me. It's not just Ryan. It's not just Abe.
00:12:06
Speaker
It's a community deal. I don't want this to be some high tower that you can't get into, like the Insuresect podcast. I want it to be, hey, it's Thursday night. I wonder what Travis is up to. Oh, he's on his Xbox like he normally is. Let's reach out to him and we'll hang out. That's how I want it to be. Shots fired. Damn. That one hurt. Higher than now.
00:12:34
Speaker
No, it's gonna be good. It's going to be fun, low key, low stress. There might be some insurance talked about. There might be some sports talked about. There might be some current events talked about. We're not gonna have an agenda. It's not going to be, hey, I need you to come in here and talk about this clause in your funds transfer fraud and how it pertains to the financial industry.
00:13:03
Speaker
That's not why people are going to tune into this one. People are going to tune in to see Abe wearing a wig and drinking white claws, right? It's going to be entertaining. It's a typical weekday night for me. Travis, you might have to get me.
00:13:26
Speaker
You might have to get me in February. I'm doing a damp Jan. Yeah. I'm dry. I'm dry until the

Creative Monetization Ideas

00:13:35
Speaker
foreseeable future, for sure, January. So I hear you. That holiday season really put a hurting on me. I was feeling a little sluggish. So I'm moving to damp. Damp. That's a good word. I'm kind of a go big or go home type of guy, so I got to go dry. Abe is just dry.
00:13:57
Speaker
24 seven, maybe. I do have, I do consume dark caffeinated beverages though. So I'm not more of it. Yeah. Well, yeah. Abe is a, for those who don't know that Abe is a coffee connoisseur. We're going to be releasing the ensure set coffee.
00:14:24
Speaker
Actually, that's actually a really good idea because I do roast my own beans. I get them imported from different places in the world and I roast my own beans. On today's release, well, I get my coffee from Costco in bulk and it goes into Keurig, so he probably wouldn't drink mine. That's disrespectful.
00:14:53
Speaker
Abe, let's do that. I'm down. That's why we're going to monetize this thing. We don't need, we don't need people to sponsor us. We're just going to sell coffee. Like Yeti. Yeah, we need it. I think mine's a Yeti too, but got

Engaging Content Ideas with Humor

00:15:12
Speaker
coalition on it. We'll let Violet make some stickers and we can sell those too. Yeah.
00:15:19
Speaker
You've got to bootstrap some financials together here. Yeah. I need bigger cups.
00:15:27
Speaker
No, guys, I really appreciate you having me on. It's it's really going to be an adventure. Things that I kind of have in the back of my head that I think would be fun would be a community Dungeons and Dragons ask campaign or play in Baldur's Gate or Call of Duty zombies. Right. Like just getting the community involved. It's honestly, you probably won't tune in for the insurance content.
00:15:55
Speaker
If you do, we're probably doing it wrong because that's not the type of stuff you want to listen to. But it would be good to get to know people on a different level, especially when they're leaders in this community. Yeah. Every single time I hear Dungeons and Dragons, all I hear is Leeroy. That's a World of Warcraft. Oh, come on.
00:16:23
Speaker
What about vlogging? Are you going to expect any Travis vlogs? Yeah, I mean, I think there's going to be a lot of content that gets chopped up and spit out like anything else. And some of that will come with some personal commentary about the context. So yeah, we can we can see some of that popping out.
00:16:44
Speaker
Everybody's got an iPhone nowadays, so it's a lot easier than back when I had my first log. This kind of seems like a much better platform. So we were in talks with a cyber criminal who launches ransomware attacks, and we were going to have them on the Intrusec podcast. But I feel like it might be a better platform to host a cyber criminal, let them play some games, get them eased up.
00:17:15
Speaker
get maybe get some booze in them and then we can get all the secrets. Well, no, I think we we use his prowess to DDoS lobbies and get some easy does. Yeah. We could be like that that guy that his whole YouTube channel is just him like scamming scammers. Yeah, we can have this guy on and just like launch ransomware attacks.
00:17:44
Speaker
We got to, uh, let's button up our cybersecurity a little bit more before we bring this guy on chickens. Do we, do we have, do we have MFA on, uh, on Zincaster? Cause we need to, we need to get that. Oh man.

Launch and Community Interaction

00:18:03
Speaker
Well, sweet. This is a, this is going to be awesome.
00:18:06
Speaker
Stay updated. So obviously, Watch Alive, that's the best way to watch when it gets launched. We'll also be posting the recordings on the EnsureSec feed, so you'll get that too. You can listen at any time or watch any time. But yeah, just stay tuned. Follow Travis on LinkedIn. Join the Discord group. We'll have a lot of fun.
00:18:31
Speaker
It's going to be a blast. Yeah, it's you'll get to find out what Abe's gamertag is and Ryan's. Are you on PlayStation or Xbox, Ryan? I've been an Xbox guy my whole life. He's got he's got a gamertag. Let's go.
00:18:47
Speaker
We'll figure out what these guys are, maybe embarrass them. It's going to be a blast, though. I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah, just a warning to everybody. I'm dusting something off of probably roughly eight-plus years or 10 years.
00:19:03
Speaker
Please. Be easy on me. We don't participate. We do not participate in cancel culture. I need a safe space on this one, guys. Please. I need to buy some bubble wrap right now. Awesome. Well, this is going to be fun. Thanks for hopping on, Travis. And this announcement gets dropped tomorrow. So just everybody watch out for the next couple of weeks.
00:19:32
Speaker
get this thing started. Amen. Thank you guys. Let's do it.
