Allie's Corporate Journey and Motherhood

Welcome to the Aligned Working Mom. I'm Allie Pritchett. I've worked in corporate America for almost 25 years, have led others for over 20, and have been a mom for about 14 of those.

through their teenage years and I find myself drawn to mothers who have unlocked that secret sauce. If you know me, you know there is little that lights my soul on fire more than having working mom conversations.

We are an interesting breed, aren't we? There are so many of us, and yet sometimes it feels so incredibly lonely. No two moms will navigate it the same. No two women have the same kids.

Know what it's like to be married to our spouse, to have our job, our demands, our boss, our life circumstances, right? We are all uniquely navigating a life there is no blueprint for, and there is no single person we can model our working mom lives after.
00:01:25

Corporate America is made up of roughly 50% women, but so few senior roles are held by women and even less by working moms. Now, admittedly, I have spent much of my career in traditionally male-dominated industries, a couple boys' clubs, and And while progress has been made in the last 25-ish years since I graduated college and began my professional career, I have noticed that in most of the organizations I've worked for, very few have had working moms in the C-suite.

That leaves very few role

models for us to watch, very few people as emotionally invested in change as us, and few people in our position with the power to make significant sweeping decisions to better help us navigate our unique, special, full lives.

As more women have taken on more and more leadership roles, however, i have attended numerous forums where women have the opportunity to ask female leaders candid questions.
00:02:27
Alison Pritchett
Inevitably, one of the first questions every single time is some version of how they balance career and motherhood or how they quote unquote do it all. Every time I hear that question asked, I hold out a sliver of hope that perhaps this leader has it figured out and has the magic equation to share with everyone.
00:02:48
Alison Pritchett
But every single time, the response is heartbreaking. It's like they're not prepared for the question. They stumble over what to share. They admit they haven't done it well and share that they've missed important events and milestones.
00:03:01
Alison Pritchett
The pain and regret is palpable in their voice. Talk about a collective gut punch for every working mom in the room. Not to mention the women listening who are soon to become mothers or dream to be and wrestling with how life could look.

So why this podcast
Supporting and Empowering Working Moms

and why now? Because I want to help working moms. Because it's hard. And because I've struggled mightily. And I've watched others struggle.
00:03:28
Alison Pritchett
I see the pain in working moms' hearts as they don't feel they are enough. They don't know how to handle all the things. But guess what? You are enough. You are someone's whole world.
00:03:40
Alison Pritchett
And you are amazing. I tear up just saying that because I know how badly someone needs to hear that today and know that truth to their core.
00:03:52
Alison Pritchett
I know how badly I needed to know that. And I still need to know that. I have long dreamt of changing working mom conditions across the country, helping moms achieve success and peace by the way of organizational cultural change across corporate America as a whole.
00:04:11
Alison Pritchett
But as I've gotten older, I've realized that while widespread cultural change would be amazing, I don't have the time, energy, or bandwidth to take that on right now.
00:04:22
Alison Pritchett
But that doesn't mean we can't change the dynamic of our lives right now from the inside, from exactly where we sit today, and support each other to make that possible. Influencing what we can and letting it organically spread while we benefit in the meantime.

controllables. And let me just share that we control and influence so much more than we sometimes give ourselves credit for. The way we think about our roles greatly influences our peace of mind, success, and happiness.
00:04:54
Alison Pritchett
And we are able to make decisions and adjustments that make significant, real, meaningful change for us, for our families, and for our teams.
00:05:06
Alison Pritchett
Please hear my heart in this. I don't share because I've done it all well or because I have all the answers. I share because I've struggled. And

if any of my experiences can help someone feel less alone and struggle less, it's a win.
00:05:21
Alison Pritchett
I certainly have not done it perfectly, but I also have not missed the important things. I don't miss my kids' activities. my son's baseball games, or my daughter's dance recitals, competitions.
00:05:33
Alison Pritchett
I don't miss the big moments at their schools. When they are hurting and they need me, I'm there. We have to stop letting working moms believe there is no and good answer.
00:05:44
Alison Pritchett
We have to talk about how to make both of these aspects of our lives fulfilling and joy-filled. We have to talk about how to find success in our careers and in our homes as mothers.
00:05:58
Alison Pritchett
And it starts with living aligned with our values and capacity in this season. Aligned, ambitious, present. That is the win.
