Caleb Call: Welcome to the holy war pod normally me and Ben got blue verse red today. It's just blue Reds of No Show. Ben had some... Travel plan to go and see some family and wasn't able to make it work Really, he probably just didn't want to talk about a monumental win for BYU, so we we can give him some crap in the comments. but Just me today. Appreciate you guys jumping on. And we had.

Caleb Call: Really just an absurd week of football. That is... One of the best weeks of football we've had since maybe 2007. What an awesome way for BYU to kind of join the party among the Crazy games that we had. You saw five top seven teams lose. they' were Just an absurd weekend. and We'll kick it off talking about BYU and Notre Dame.

Caleb Call: fun time you had game day coming to town uh game day was fun you had Pat McAfee reading from the Book of Mormon, calling everybody elder and brother. you had the Kid make a kick in the spider -man costume and win $3 million. So pretty fun start to the day.

Caleb Call: And then as the day's kind of rolling on. BOU's game is primetime ABC. You're watching all these teams lose in front of BYU. You watched. Texas lose to Florida you watched Georgia lose to Auburn you watched Indiana lose to Ohio State and so all of a sudden you're sitting there thinking like oh man A few of you wins. What's going to happen? now there's potential to jump.

Caleb Call: And so. Game time finally comes, and obviously Notre Dame, they're a 10 .5 -point favorite. The world's expecting Notre Dame to win the game. But. it was setting up to have just a monumental impact appear you could win And a couple things we knew going into it.

Caleb Call: The defense was going to have to have a great game, especially defending CJ Carr. And. Bear Bachmeier was going to have to be heroic. End. We saw both of those things play out. it was Honestly, the game script was perfect for BYU. The start of the game...

Caleb Call: BYU goes right down, scores a touchdown. They get their tight ends involved, some nice running plays, and a quick 7 -0 start. And then Notre Dame got going. I was a little bit nervous. We are nerve wracking seeing.

Caleb Call: Nolan James get good push on the ground and they go down and put 10 points up right away and they take a 10 -7 lead after BYU goes up 7 -0. You can feel the nerves kind of kicking into the stadium a little bit.

Caleb Call: But then BYU gets another drive going. And they go down and... If you watched Baylor in 2022, you'll remember the exact play call. We had a throwback to Jaron Hall from Chase Roberts. on that day.

Caleb Call: Almost the exact same part of the field over here uh kyler casper who knew he had the arm that he does and throw back to him and he throws it back to bear who gets a receiving touchdown And then... You take the 14 -10 lead. Get off the field again, and you're up. They go score another touchdown. You're up 21 -10.

Caleb Call: It has to. on the Irish. Just an unbelievable performance in the first half. And you're sitting there thinking like. This wasn't a fluke. BYU went out there. They were running the ball. They were throwing the ball.

Caleb Call: They were legitimately outplaying the Irish in the first half. CJ Carr. I do want to compliment him. and the team on a couple of things. In the first half, they got their run game going. But CJ Carr, he had his season high and maybe even career high in pass attempts against BYU, 49 pass attempts.

Caleb Call: and With that many drop backs and with how much pressure BYU had 16 hurries on CJ Carr zero sacks. His pocket presence was incredible. He got out of a few plays that I was convinced were going to be sacks. K .D. Luave missed a couple. and Credit to CJ Carr. He had a great game. Not as great as the Irish needed, but at least as far as his pocket presence and giving his guys chances. And you saw that in the first half. He he was putting balls on the money for his receivers. and

Caleb Call: despite perfect coverage. some unbelievable catches one -handed on a third and long i'm over right on trey and theres There's a few others too, and there i mean the receiving crew was... very impressive honestly kind of caught me off guard i was not expecting them to be the playmakers that they were jaden great house number one was all over the field and had a great day So you're sitting there 21 -10 at halftime, and you're like, man, Notre Dame.

Caleb Call: Despite only having 10 points, it felt like they've played a pretty good offensive first half. They moved the ball a lot. But in the red zone, BYU was able to get some stops. One of them being a just wild heads -up play by the defense with C .J. Carr.

Caleb Call: Fumbles. a spike attempt And. thankfully beer heads and guys jump on it quick and We're able to get that overturned, but just something that you don't see on a football field and the kind of things that you need to have go your way to win a game like this.

Caleb Call: And so now you're sitting there 21 to 10. Going into the second half and you're. Just hoping the K we. We don't want to see conservative football, A -Rod. We want to go out there and... win this game. Well, second half comes, BYU gets a quick stop, and then...

Caleb Call: You see the touchdown pass to JoJo Get wiped off with the flag. And then... We end up punting on that possession. Notre Dame gets the ball, and they're punting it right back. We've got a three now.

Caleb Call: You're feeling good. and then uh It's where the trouble starts to happen. You have a muffed punt Mike Cannon -DeVries. lead to a Notre Dame field goal.

Caleb Call: We saw it last week with Tiger Bachmeier and Iowa State. you were just i mean I'm sure the entire stadium was sitting there praying, just please catch the ball. and Of course he doesn't. Notre Dame gets a field goal, 21 -13.

Caleb Call: and Then he gets the ball back And Kalani. Thanks a pun. For no reason? You're up by 8 points. You have been really outplaying Notre Dame the entire game.

Caleb Call: And you fake a pun. with I mean, there was no chance of that succeeding, and he admitted after the game that Notre Dame was kind of baiting him. into it with the looks they were showing on previous punts And honestly, I mean, the ball was at like the 20. 8 yard line when they attempted it.

Caleb Call: It's not like a fake pun. succeeding there even guarantees points. the got I thought that was One of the bigger mistakes of Kalani's entire tenure is calling that fake punt. Now credit to the defense. You give Notre Dame a short field.

Caleb Call: right after they had just been given a short field of possession before BYU gets off the field again, forces a field goal. Really, that was the story of the game, I feel like, for the Cougars, is you forced three Notre Dame field goals.

Caleb Call: Five red zone possessions for Notre Dame. resulted in 18 points. That is what BYU had to do to win the game, and the defense was incredible. The third quarter.

Caleb Call: The special teams in offense really did try and lose the game for the Cougars, and BYU's defense didn't let it happen. And then you go into the fourth quarter, Notre Dame finally gets their touchdown drive, go for two, and they get it. They're sitting there with a 24 -21 lead.

Caleb Call: And BYU gets the ball moving. And then you get a Baerbock -Meyer interception. Really one of his only mistakes of the entire night And it felt like that was going to be, you know, if Notre Dame goes and scores a touchdown, that game is over. And they had been driving the ball pretty well in the Cougars for a lot of the game. And so definitely another huge moment for the defense.

Caleb Call: and they go get a three and out right away. And then Cannon of Rhys gets the chance to redeem himself. And I was able to get a... Putter turnover to the 45 and Bear Bachmeier. Leads the game -winning drive. You had a third and one of the...

Caleb Call: and goal line and then obviously the false start leads to a third and six and Credit to the ref for getting out of the way on Rocker. Hawker Lions getting into the end zone. And. Yeah, be he takes the lead. Bear Bachmeier in the fourth quarter. I'm not sure if there's a quarterback.

Caleb Call: in the country that you'd rather have them bear. That dude is just a winner. Yeah. definitely is not like the most skilled and talented. quarterback in the country. But when it comes time to win a game,

Caleb Call: I'm not sure there's another quarterback who is more poised and more capable of doing it. especially on the ground and throwing having that combo there is just incredible and Yeah, BYU finds a way into the end zone, takes the lead, and obviously Notre Dame gets down the field and has a chance in the last play of the game. and comes up incomplete.

Caleb Call: Honestly, just an incredible performance by the Cougars. unbelievable there were some huge heroes of the game shout out the preston rex for having 66 carries on. or 66 yards on 10 carries.

Caleb Call: you needed to be able to run the ball on notre dame and We did just enough. We actually outgained Notre Dame. on the ground not something i saw coming especially after the first two drives when it felt like know their names ground game was going to be a problem all night.

Caleb Call: And then... legend glass for and kyler casper both make a huge place every time that their numbers got called JoJo Phillips was the three catches. He had a fourth that got called back that would have been a touchdown.

Caleb Call: i just Awesome day by the offense. Honestly, Aaron Roderick called a perfect game BYU had four red zone attempts. And they scored four touchdowns. and that was my biggest concern is if you don't have lj martin What are you doing in the red zone?

Caleb Call: Well... Aaron had answers and Bear Bachmeier was the answer for most of it, whether it was rushing, whether it was receiving, whether it was throwing the ball. he He went for the cycle, having one touchdown of each. too rushing and Something that we haven't seen in Provo since Steve Young did it.

Caleb Call: back against, Missouri so fun throwback and of course steve young was one of the first fans to storm the field so Awesome time there. Steve Young as guest picker went 10 -0 on a just wild Saturday for college game day.

Caleb Call: Props to you Steve. I don't know how you did that. But the... impact of this Notre Dame win for BYU is going to be felt for the entire conference. And. I'll talk about that a little bit later. I don't really want to focus too much on the Big 12.

Caleb Call: focus instead more on BYU. last year. BYU had two chances. against a playoff caliber team. That was Texas Tech. And they got B enough to field in both games.

Caleb Call: We did not have an answer. for uh their pass rush mostly maybe we couldn't establish the run as well as we needed to and Yeah, we ended up losing both of those games by a combined 62 -14.

Caleb Call: Definitely was not great. And that's what kept BYU out of the playoff. And really, nobody kind of respected BYU. when it came time to pitch. put them up against a contender. I think that's ultimately why they let that into the playoff is because...

Caleb Call: They just weren't trusted to be able to win. with them on the uh sports biggest stage after the Texas Tech performances. and so you knew going into this year when the Notre Dame game came onto the schedule pretty late.

Caleb Call: You knew you were gonna have to. You didn't have to win that game. But you had to compete. you had to make it evident that we belong on the field with them. end. My goodness, without LJ Martin, BYU would go out there and prove that.

Caleb Call: winning this game. And so for now, if you're BYU, you jumped up at number two in the country because of all the chaos. Could have been number one. They were only 20 or so points away in the AP pool.

Caleb Call: Miami themselves almost lost to Florida State. That's another game we'll talk about here in a little bit. so Credit to... the AP voters for people in the You know, put BYU as high as they did at number two. Highest ranking for the Cougars since 1984.

Caleb Call: And this is a college football season right now that feels like 2007. where everyone's got a chance. where nobody is actually all that good compared to the rest of the country It's a very even playing field.

Caleb Call: And I think this is one of the biggest impacts that we've kind of seen from the combination of the NIL era. and the Portal era coming in at the same time is... Teams can no longer hoard. depth like Alabama and Georgia and Ohio State used to be able to do.

Caleb Call: There are not five stars all the way down the bench. Third stringers at Alabama aren't better than first stringers at... Kentucky or anywhere else anymore. And so with that. what you're seeing is The playing field leveling out The top teams are not as dominant anymore.

Caleb Call: and the teams behind them. are all better and so instead of having its top tier here in a very wide tiered solved underneath of them. There is like a, it feels like a 20 to 30. team tier that is just all very equal with each other it's gonna lead to some chaos and honestly there's a lot of uh dislike for the 2014 playoff.

Caleb Call: i understand it. not my preferred format 16 with no buys would have been what I preferred but the 2014 playoff is going to be so much fun whether you hate the format or not Those games are going to be incredible.

Caleb Call: It is a little disappointing that A team like Texas, who's looked as bad as they have, is going to have a... you know pretty easy path into the playoff even with two losses like they've had to this point but I think in the end, it's still going to end up being a very fun format, especially with the way college football has evened itself out.

Caleb Call: And so in a season like this where Everyone is kind of just on par with everyone at the top. BYU just proved that they can beat Notre Dame. You've got Bear Bachmeier, who is a gamer. Kyle Papinga on defense. has been amazing to this point in the season.

Caleb Call: Why not the Cougars? i mean they're Obviously prove that they're better than Notre Dame, who is still... the national championship favorite. today. Vegas has them power -rated.

Caleb Call: is the best team in the country. And if that's the case... And BYU just beat them. Who can't BYU be? what youd be They went out there and proved it against Notre Dame. and The rest of the way their schedule is not. Crazy. They've got.

Caleb Call: UCF. road trip Trap game. We've all been talking about it for as long as the schedule's been out. ASU. Holy War, which definitely will be an intimidating game, Utah still undefeated.

Caleb Call: and then you've got Baylor. Kansas, Cincinnati. BYU. Should win every one of those games except for Utah. That's going to be obviously the holy war. Who knows what's going to happen there.

Caleb Call: You should have won the other five. Now, we saw Georgia lose to Auburn. We saw... texas lose to florida who had been you know abysmal the last couple of weeks and so i mean there definitely nobody's going to be immune to an upset.

Caleb Call: And without LJ, that still complicates the next few games until he does get back. But BYU's put themselves in a position now. where they should make the playoff field. I think FBI had a 70 % chance to make the playoff field.

Caleb Call: And if you can get yourself into that field where the season is this there were the Talent and teams are this even? You've seen major flaws from every single contender.

Caleb Call: Get yourself into the playoff and just see what happens I trust A -Rod. I trust Kalani. I trust. But bingo. More importantly than all that, I trust Bear Bachmeier to go out there and win games. He now has, he's 18 -2 as a starter, both losses to Texas Tech.

Caleb Call: He has five fourth quarter comeback wins. in his 18 wins. That dude in the fourth quarter. There's nobody I'd rather have. leading my team than him. And.

Caleb Call: Yeah, let's the let's get BYU into the playoff and let's see how it goes from there. Still a lot of season to play out. but After the Notre Dame game, I mean, the sky's the limit for the Cougars. just awesome performance. and What a way to go make a statement. to the rest of the country after what happened against Texas Tech twice last year to say no. that's We have.

Caleb Call: risen past that we are beyond what we showed last year and now you just got to keep doing it week in week out you can't let that be the climax of the season That needs to be the midpoint of the season where you keep growing off of it.

Caleb Call: So we'll see if the Cougars are able to do that. but I'm going to shout out to Kalani and shout out to everybody else who made that one possible. now for Utah. Dave?

Caleb Call: Got it. to go face Isaac Wilson. in Colorado. in dion Utah beat them so badly last year. The end. Going on the road Colorado has shown that they would have been a formidable defense.

Caleb Call: Their offense has struggled for almost the entire season. But their defense really has been one of the better defenses in the conference. And so, I mean, this was an interesting matchup. Vegas had Utah favored by 14 or 15 points. and In the first half I felt like Utah was gonna cruise and be able to cover that Colorado couldn't move the ball.

Caleb Call: and Utah was moving the ball. They had a few hiccups in the red zone and weren't able to convert. and ended up with 13 points at halftime. And then this game flips quick. in the second half. Colorado gained momentum. They had chunk plays. They were getting All sorts of games. Isaac Wilson had some great throws. And all of a sudden, if you're Utah, you go from 13 -0.

Caleb Call: to down 13 to 17 very quickly Just like that. And then... Devin Dampier had a huge play. He it was third and I think 12.

Caleb Call: hit a 50 -yard pass. And that ended up getting Utah the lead back to 20 -17. and then Isaac Wilson had a... turnover that Utah was able to get a short field score touchdown, take the 27 -17 lead. and despite of All right, our last touchdown. Did not get the onside kick, but they did get the ball back.

Caleb Call: and Then had a Hail Mary attempt Utah held on to win 27 to 24 So I mean, this game right here. Utah definitely. Uh... They struggle with Colorado probably more than anyone expected them to.

Caleb Call: Granted, again, it was just a wild Saturday, so anything was possible. And we knew that Colorado. despite the poor record. They had talent. They had played with Texas Tech. A pretty similar game statistically to what they did against Utah.

Caleb Call: They just struggled with more turnovers and couldn't convert their opportunities into points on the other side like they did against Utah. with utah They had this six -game runway that's now over.

Caleb Call: You succeeded. You went 6 -0. and You. Started the stretch very dominant. And these last three Big 12 games. You've shown cracks. Iowa State.

Caleb Call: They had the ball down seven in the fourth quarter. Kansas was down by three, and they had two possessions. And at the one in the six -yard line, that could have been touchdowns. They ended up losing by 17. Colorado loses by three at the end.

Caleb Call: And now Utah's got a quick step up in competition. They've got Houston, who's 5 -1. Coming into Salt Lake City this week, game day is coming. So two weeks in a row that game day is staying in Utah.

Caleb Call: And. Houston, they dispute Oklahoma State. Huge win for them. kyle regman's the real deal he's had a great season so far really one of the more underrated and just a very quiet quarterback on the national scale. He deserves more attention than he's getting. So you've got Houston coming into town.

Caleb Call: Then you go to Cincinnati, which honestly shouldn't be too much of an issue. Then you got the holy war. Then you got Arizona. And then you've got TCU and their nasty defense.

Caleb Call: And then you close the year with... West Virginia. So. the Increasing competition for Utah will be interesting. Now to their credit. they've given themselves what they needed to at this point which is a 6 -0 record.

Caleb Call: You don't have to be perfect the rest of the way. 11 -1 Utah probably can get themselves into the Big 12 championship and probably the playoff. especially with the way the rest of the country's kind of played out to this point And.

Caleb Call: I mean, still Houston, Arizona. TCU, those are probably games that are going to be favorites in all of them. Maybe not Arizona and Tucson, depending on how they look against Texas Tech. but Utah has a chance here and and with with the Colorado win. being able to take that 6 -0 stretch is awesome for what what's coming next.

Caleb Call: Now. For the first time in, you know, as long as Scali's been a head coach. he had a i mean this was like a Very, very close game. And I had been talking to Ben about this. is This is a new head coach?

Caleb Call: Who? He does not have... He had no experience. dealing with a close fourth quarter and how to deal with the clock how to use your timeouts how to play call how to just kind of go about end of game scenarios and i think that we saw some cracks and this is something that scally could learn from but Utah.

Caleb Call: Pass the or not pass the ball twice. They passed the ball and third down it was that had a damp here care that was a four -yard loss and then Third and long. They go for a pass play and it's incomplete Had they just ran the ball there.

Caleb Call: You are punting the ball back to Colorado. They have the ball with 15 to 20 seconds left. Probably a 15 -yard line. Well with the incomplete pass You give Colorado a minute and six seconds.

Caleb Call: Like that is just a a third and 12. you are not reasonably picking up that first down. If it were third and like six. I understand it. That's the first down that you could have gotten.

Caleb Call: End the game right there. But they were aggressive, trusted Dampier, who had struggled in a lot of the game. and I think that that was honestly just a big mistake by Scali. I'm not sure if he gave the OC the, you know, full.

Caleb Call: authority there but something to learn from And the kind of thing that really could have been that Colorado had a Hail Mary attempt at the end, and they probably wouldn't have. had they just ran the ball. and then punted.

Caleb Call: so Some stuff to clean up from Utah definitely have shown some cracks but You're undefeated. You're top 10 in the country. Everything is in front of you. with Yusi coming into town.

Caleb Call: now the rest of the big 12 was Hectic and kind of wild you had Houston, Oklahoma State Houston won that game 35 -32. Props to Houston for... Being able to I mean Oklahoma State was starting to throw some punches there in the second half They had three points at halftime, but that's to make us have a good game the whole time and just wasn't able to convert it into points early And then by the end of the game, Mestemaker had 365 passing yards, three touchdowns. and Oklahoma State did give them a huge shot. but Connor Wegman.

Caleb Call: 24 for 33, five touchdowns, 343 passing yards, and to go with that 162. rushing yards and Houston comes out on top.

Caleb Call: This Houston team never two -point lost a Texas Tech. Texas Tech has looked great for a lot of the games since then. They had a rocky start. but We just saw them beat Arizona State by 28 points.

Caleb Call: they uh Be Colorado by 22 I think that this Texas Tech team, they're number eight in the country right now. and they probably are about that level of team right there. a 6 to 15 ran again with how college football is right now that's there are probably 25 to 30 teams that are pretty similar in that top tier. And Texas Tech is right up there with them. And I think Houston might as well be too.

Caleb Call: Houston playing Utah. It's 14 versus 10 this next week. We'll have a preview about that one. and That's going to be a huge game for the conference and a huge chance for Houston. I mean, last year they went 10 -3. They beat LSU.

Caleb Call: And they really just feel like they have not gotten much respect. And nobody is kind of talking about Houston at this point. But if you go and look at their schedule. If they beat Utah.

Caleb Call: This is their November. Cincinnati. Colorado. West Virginia. and Baylor. They had three huge games on their schedule. Texas Tech.

Caleb Call: Oklahoma State and Utah. You beat Utah. You went 2 -1 in one of those. You're going to be favorites in your last four. with an amazing chance to go 11 -1. Maybe that gets in the Big 12 title game.

Caleb Call: Maybe it doesn't. But at 11 and 1. Can Houston, without a Big 12 championship appearance, make the playoff? It would be close, and with wins against Utah and Oklahoma State in it,

Caleb Call: Very close loss to Texas Tech, who could still win the Big 12. I mean... Houston would have to be a team that you're looking at very seriously for that. I'm willing for it to just a winner. You saw it at Tulane. he had amazing teams and seasons over there.

Caleb Call: and here at houston houston was just kind of an afterthought in the Big 12 as far as being a football addition. But, no, they're they're here to stay. they As long as Willie Fritz is there. They're going to have a solid team. 10 -3 last year.

Caleb Call: 6 -1 already this year. and a pretty easy November schedule. Can't wait to see what they do the rest of the way. We had a classic with West Virginia and Cincinnati.

Caleb Call: These two teams couldn't stop each other. West Virginia is going to have shootouts all year long. Their defense is not good. Their defensive coordinator. admitted they are probably the worst defense in the country and you can definitely make the argument that He's not wrong about that.

Caleb Call: but Third and long in your own end zone a minute and a half left And Hawkins throws it. down the field. to get the completion ends up getting the game -winning field goal Super fun game. West Virginia is going to be just a popcorn team the rest of the year.

Caleb Call: They're not the best team in the conference. They already have a few losses. but with their run game with hawkins with their playmakers on offense despite how bad the defense is They could find themselves in a lot of games and they still play Texas Tech and they still play Utah.

Caleb Call: And I think they still play Houston, I just said as well. so With that being the case they are a team that could cause some chaos. And with the offense playing as well as it is, If you just have an opposing offense against them,

Caleb Call: have a slightly slower day than they should. Maybe it's one one or two extra turnovers. A bad snap here or there. West Virginia could upset somebody easily and throw a wrench into the Big 12 championship race. So super fun team. We're trying to get the offense going. If you can figure out the defense, we could see West Virginia climb into it. contender status in a future season.

Caleb Call: We'll see. a Super fun game over there. We had a couple of rivalry games. as well Kansas still cannot get the Kansas State monkey off their back.

Caleb Call: Isaiah Marshall and Avery Johnson had a fun duel. Avery Johnson ends up coming out on top. by 11. Really not much to say about this one. Kansas just... Cannot.

Caleb Call: get this monkey off their back and BYU fans felt that we had the you know nine game losing streak to utah that you heard about every day if you lived in the state of Utah.

Caleb Call: But. You are able to get. over that you beat them with jaron hall in 2021 and now you're on a three game winning streak And it feels like with Kansas, with this this mental. hurdle of beating Kansas State.

Caleb Call: We got to see it to believe it. I'm not sure I'll ever pick Kansas to win that game until they actually do. It's at 18 games now. and With how Kansas is as a program who knows of it that could go another 18 years we'll see so shout out to the wildcats really kind of saved their season they already have a couple of disappointing losses but The rest of the way.

Caleb Call: won't necessarily get much easier but it also doesn't get harder they dodge a lot of the top contenders so we could see them carve out a decent season for uh Colin Klein in his first year there as head coach. The rivalry games that just...

Caleb Call: Both fan bases. Hate their head coach. TCU. They already want Sonny Dyches gone. Their defense is incredible this year. and their offense is awful. If you were to give TCU their defense let them play with west virginia's offense That's one of the best teams in the country.

Caleb Call: But their offense with Jaden Craig is just not good But despite that, they go out there against Baylor. who just had beaten I think the final score is 55 -16.

Caleb Call: blowout. So Baylor's feeling good on offense. DJ Lagway's been playing great. It's honestly been a very impressive season to this point. for baylor they had the one point loss to auburn and outside of that they had handled business.

Caleb Call: But no, against TCU, DJ Lagwin, the Baylor offense, puts up six. points. lagway 22 for 53 passing. That is just not enough to get it done. You got 34 carries for 54 yards. and All that comes out to mean a 17 -6 TCU win.

Caleb Call: TCU and Baylor both. They're going to be interesting teams the rest of the way, and they both play a few of the big golf contenders, Texas Tech, Scott. utah and Texas Tech.

Caleb Call: Baylor has. BYU. Houston and Texas Tech as well. so both of these teams like You saw it when TCU played BYU. There was some weather, sure.

Caleb Call: but that doesn't I mean there are games in bad weather. that have lots of points. BYU won 17 -10. had under 200 yards of offense. Barry Bachmeier had 62 yards passing.

Caleb Call: TCU's defense, they held North Carolina to 15. Their other loss was to UCF 21 -13. They had a bunch of turnovers. Their defense has given up.

Caleb Call: That 21 points to UCF is the highest total to this point of the season. legitimately one of the top defenses in the conference and maybe even country. It's just a shame that it's paired with such an abysmal offense.

Caleb Call: They're sitting there at 3 -3 with Sonny Dyches. I know they want him fired, but... Man, you've got to shut up that defense with Andy Avalos, and hopefully they can keep that going the rest of the way. They could end up having a strong close to the season. They're another – I mean, TCU, West Virginia, Baylor, there's a lot of Big 12 teams, even Colorado that – have a chance to really throw a wrench in the big 12 conference race. and And we'll see how it plays out.

Caleb Call: Baylor. I don't know where you go from here. I love Dave Aranda as a person. But at some point I don't know when you pulled the plug. M. They're close to the season. They they got BYU, Texas Tech, and Houston all in November.

Caleb Call: Assuming they lose all three of those, that's at least five losses. They probably will drop one of the next three against Kansas, UCF, and Iowa State. If you're sitting there 6 -6 at the end of the year, I don't think you can give Aranda another year. but Man, they've showed potential this season, and it would just be a shame to have Dave Aranda get fired. but If I'm a Baylor fan, I understand it. After that Big 12 championship game, it's been five seasons since then.

Caleb Call: And Baylor's just been an afterthought in the conference. ever since and that should it's not been good enough so Wouldn't be shocked if. Both. TCU and Baylor have new head coaches next year.

Caleb Call: We'll see how the rest of the year plays out. I think Sonny Dykes is probably more likely to keep his job. He made a national championship game, so he's got probably a longer leash because of that. And they were 9 -4 the last two seasons. It wasn't like they'd been awful.

Caleb Call: But then this year you had all the hype you have a defense this good And the offense is just awful. You got to figure it out, Sonny. And so i I hope he gets another year. As long as he can keep Andy Avalos and TC and keep some of that roster together.

Caleb Call: they could be a serious you know turnaround contender You know that could happen next year so We'll see how it goes, but fun day in the conference. And here's where it gets fun. talking about the rest of the country.

Caleb Call: I want to start. We had a top five matchup. I'll get to it But I'm gonna get to the SEC

Caleb Call: I don't know what to make of the SEC. they Yeah. You thought after you know last week or the last two weeks. that you're at Ohio State. You're not at Ohio State. I'm in Georgia and Alabama. in the top.

Caleb Call: oh well the clear two best teams in the conference. And you you had a lot of people there, even some AP voters, who were like, you know what? I think Bama and Georgia are the two best teams. I'm ranking them one and two. But what are they going to do this week?

Caleb Call: Bama. It goes to Tennessee. And on our preview podcast. Hi. I have been so unimpressed by Tennessee. The Arkansas game was awful. Their offense against Texas was awful.

Caleb Call: They go out there and stonewall the Alabama offense. Bama was scoring on everybody. I know they struggled a little bit there against Georgia, only put up 17 points. but Bama couldn't do anything against Tennessee. The defense was amazing for Tennessee the entire game. Bama never got anything going. And I was worried that Tennessee was relying on field goals a little bit too much and could have let...

Caleb Call: Just... that's always a chance that Bama can come back and score a touchdown or two and that game turns around quick. but It didn't matter. Tennessee was 26 -10. And I really never had a shot down the stretch. him What does Georgia go do? after beating Alabama.

Caleb Call: They go up 14 -0 on Auburn. And then they kind of fall asleep at the wheel. definitely have some issues and cars at the wheel in georgia and this was no exception here uh I don't comes back They take a 17 -14 lead, and then... Eventually, they're 24 -24 at the end of the game. Stockton, it looks like he's about to go lead a game -winning field goal drive.

Caleb Call: he gets trips from but stripped from behind and Auburn gets the game winning field goal. They win 27 to 24. even georgia who we thought was going to be immune to some of these upsets They lose to one of the...

Caleb Call: easier games on their schedule and Now here you are. with the sec this far into the season I just have no clue what to make of this conference. Tennessee has looked awful at some points, but they just beat Alabama.

Caleb Call: Georgia has looked dominant. and They just lost to a... Bad Auburn team. Kentucky, they might be the best team in the conference, but they lost by 29 to Alabama.

Caleb Call: you had lsu be mississippi state 31 -0 texas loses to florida The SEC is a mess right now. The top of their conference standings you got four teams with one loss in conference Georgia.

Caleb Call: Ole Miss. You expected those two. but then Kentucky and Tennessee. for the others. and Alabama, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Auburn. Oklahoma, Texas.

Caleb Call: Just a huge mess of teams with two losses in conference. The nine -game conference schedule is always going to complicate things in the SEC. but Combining that. with just the mess that we've seen from the conference.

Caleb Call: i Just week to week, I have no clue what to expect anymore. you saw Florida, kill Ole Miss. And so you think Florida has this awesome team. Well, they go and they get. killed by Missouri.

Caleb Call: So what does Missouri do when they go play Ole Miss? You would think that that would mean... Oh, well, Missouri killed Florida. Florida killed Ole Miss. Missouri probably should beat. Ole Miss. No, Ole Miss kills Florida. Ole Miss kills Missouri.

Caleb Call: Nothing makes sense. And so I mean the rest of the way. How many playoff teams does the SEC get? I feel confident. that they're going to have three at least. They're going to want four. They're going to want five. but The losses are stacking up. And so we we'll get our first committee rankings here in two weeks.

Caleb Call: is going to be Fascinating. to see how they deal with multiple loss SEC teams. to this point right now You look at the two lost teams, Alabama. They've got a good win against Mississippi State and a blowout win to Kentucky. You look at... Tennessee, they've got the BAM over. They're only one loss, but they got the BAM to win. You look at two -loss Florida, two bad losses.

Caleb Call: But they beat Ole Miss and they beat Texas. You look at LSU with their two losses. and I mean, they have blowout wins against good teams. They don't have a marquee win at this point. Mississippi State's got the Missouri win. Missouri's got the Florida blowout win.

Caleb Call: How how would these teams get ranked will be fascinating. Right now, there's in the AP poll, there are five ranked. two lost SEC teams. Not a single other conference has a two -loss team ranked.

Caleb Call: so Oklahoma State was the first team out of the AP pool. Big 12 was close to having a two -loss team in there. But right now, the SEC is the ones getting that treatment.

Caleb Call: And it's going to be fascinating to see. with how the committee sorts this out all off season there is this push from the sec How are you going to deal with us? How are you going to deal with strength schedule with our new nine game conference schedule?

Caleb Call: we're about to find out and i have a feeling it's going to be Either really annoying to the general public to see teams that we've seen get blown out, ranked very high. or the SEC is going to be.

Caleb Call: Crying even more about their teams being disrespected and that losses shouldn't matter And this is the ultimate year of the quality loss in the SEC. Not a single undefeated team after seven weeks of football. so Just a super fun slate in the SEC, Florida, to Texas.

Caleb Call: I don't know where Texas goes from here Sarkeesian. Arch. Something's not working Texas has had all the talent in the world on offense and they cannot figure it out.

Caleb Call: They cannot consistently move the ball. They cannot consistently score. and with their running backs with their receivers. You should be able to score points with this offense.

Caleb Call: And. Yeah. I don't know if it's Arch. I don't know if it's Sark. Could be both of them. Maybe they both suck. i don't know but something has to change I assume the rest of the year for Texas, they're going to have one or two more losses. I do not think they'll make the playoff.

Caleb Call: which is absurd. after beating Ohio State to start the season. And even that game, looking back, looks a little flukish. I mean, they were down 20 points in the fourth quarter. and then converted another four downs and were able to win that game by one.

Caleb Call: I just... Does Sark give his job? After a... playoff or missing the playoff again this year. I don't know. he probably should if you prioritize just the talent that he's able to bring in but a lot of that can be attributed to the boosters and i'm sure they're going to be unhappy with the results so That could be a huge job that triggers

Caleb Call: Just domino effect of a ton of crazy coaching carousel kick some of what we had last year where you just one job after another opened and you know, you take a coach from somebody else and just the dominoes keep going.

Caleb Call: We could see that this year, and Texas is going to be one of those marquee jobs that has a chance to be. up there as far as the Big Ten goes. You had... Ohio State Indiana.

Caleb Call: This game. Ohio State really, I mean, they were dominating on defense. Indiana really struggled to get the ball going. But the story of this game is going to be the fact that Julian Sane is going to miss.

Caleb Call: quote unquote, several weeks. I don't know what several weeks means. the rest of their schedule That the team names sound scary. You got USC, you got Oregon, you got Nebraska Northwestern, you got Michigan.

Caleb Call: Ohio State will be a favorite in all those. they should Even with poor quarterback play, they should be able to win each of those games. But each of those games is also losable without. Julian saying, just look at Jeremiah Smith, but.

Caleb Call: But the true freshman quarterback. all of a sudden ohio state's in danger now they still win this one 19 to 15 and They have a failed toe tap by Nick Marsh to thank for that. Feel bad for the kid. Feel bad for Indiana.

Caleb Call: They had a chance to win this one at the end, and just the ball was placed just a little too outside, and Marsh couldn't make the play on it. I came away from this one just kind of having a feeling that. Indiana while still Among the best teams in the country they are step below from last year where they went 16 to know that was a historically great team last year and so Indiana and Ohio State.

Caleb Call: I don't think either of them. like You thought maybe the Big Ten was going to you know have teams at the top that are as dominant as they have in the last few years. even the big tent is kind of getting sucked down into the just weed of A bunch of teams that are not.

Caleb Call: Dominant. Ohio State, you saw a loss to Texas. Indiana, close wins against Northwestern and Nebraska. Now a close loss to Ohio State. Oregon, who is a huge contender. They have already got two losses. They ended up beating Nebraska in One of the ugliest games ever played. Brock Thomas gets benched, as he should have. Royola comes in and does just enough to eke out a low -scoring win.

Caleb Call: UCLA, Wisconsin. Somehow. Picture being told this preseason. the last undefeated team in the quote -unquote Power two, SEC Big Ten. Still hate the term. It is very demeaning to teams that don't deserve to be lumped below the power two.

Caleb Call: but UCLA, last undefeated team. They keep finding a way, and it's largely their defense and their running game. Without Nico, the path gets trickier. but their schedule was so easy the rest of the way that at this point UCLA probably will be in the playoff unless things go really south.

Caleb Call: Wisconsin's one of their biggest tests left. They win 17 -7. The UCLA defense is legitimately great. And honestly, at this point. Even with one loss, they might find themselves in the Big Ten championship game against Ohio State or whoever ends up being so.

Caleb Call: Credit to Chesney. if you're of If you're needing to hire a new head coach, Go hire the James Madison head coach. I know it's Billy Napier. I saw what he did with Florida.

Caleb Call: Go hire him. You're going to go undefeated the next year. at just indiana they had their first loss they were six and one They won the championship last year with Cignetti. Chesney with UCLA. Immediate turnaround.

Caleb Call: year they did not look great last year and here they are just play an incredible football especially on defense in which ucla is not known as like a hard -hitting defensive football team they kind of have a soft culture, kind kind of how you'd envision them, similar to USC and what they're doing. But no, they are.

Caleb Call: They're playing Smash Mouth Big Ten football this year, so that was awesome to see. And then... in the ACC. So you're sitting here, you have all these upset losses.

Caleb Call: BYU's playing Notre Dame at the same time Florida State's playing Miami. These are number two and number three. Number one's already lost. Miami is going down to the wire with Florida State that game gets into overtime now Florida State fans are gonna be complaining about the No call. at the air Not the no call, the...

Caleb Call: holding That. Negated a touchdown. And then the... Hail Mary attempt that. Was it caught? Was it intercepted? The ref called intercepted and it got upheld.

Caleb Call: Miami. Snuck out of this one. And they end up being the number one team in the country in the AP Top 25. m Really? They're undefeated still, yes. They have the Wake Forest win, which...

Caleb Call: in hindsight looks a lot better than people thought it did at the time of the game wake forest just mauled cal 41 -7 they have posted that they beat the state of california 98 -10 over the last couple of weeks. so Good job by Wake Forest. They're delivering, man. We did beat. them.

Caleb Call: Goodwick Forest team, 33 -20. And so now Miami, they jumped to number one in the country. And. If you look at resume. BYU probably deserves to be ahead of them.

Caleb Call: But I get it. because Miami they kind of built the reputation last year in the playoff. getting themselves into the championship game and nearly winning the championship.

Caleb Call: they had the chance at the end there and Darien Mintz has been incredible. they're sitting at number one and They've got Notre Dame coming to town here in a couple of weeks, and that's going to be the biggest game of the season for both of them.

Caleb Call: Miami. They were one of the teams that we always kind of assumed that the ACC was theirs. They were going to win. The ACC, they were going to go undefeated besides maybe the Notre Dame game.

Caleb Call: But no. Even Miami. they're Granted, they've had some injuries. but Even they're not. immune to an upset loss. I mean, Florida State is not a good team. and That was it.

Caleb Call: They were playing an even football game all the way through against each other. And. Watch out for this one. The week before Miami goes to Notre Dame. They go to North Carolina.

Caleb Call: who beat Duke just barely. Therefore, too, Bill Belichick is playing. quality. football. with North Carolina. In. That is a little bit of a track game for Miami. And so, I mean, yeah, matt Miami, they're number one in the country.

Caleb Call: Don't be surprised to see them drop a random game in the ACC somewhere that isn't Notre Dame. me Even they're not immune to it. the whole country you have no idea what's going to happen every single week this is 2007 all over again Let's jump into the top 25 for the AP poll.

Caleb Call: it just is mayhem, having as many teams lost as dead. In week seven. And so here we are. seven weeks into the season. And this is your top 10.

Caleb Call: Miami. which you kind of understand. You could have seen that coming preseason. But BYU, not just at number two. BYU Received. 20. first place vote. The kind of thing that...

Caleb Call: a couple years ago, you would have never imagined possible. Well, here you are, BYU, 20 first place votes, number two in the country. And then you have a you know slew of one loss teams.

Caleb Call: Ohio State number three, Notre Dame number four. Georgia number five, Indiana number six. Ole Miss number seven. You can argue or complain as much as you want about the order of those teams.

Caleb Call: It's hard to say. Notre Dame might be ranked a little high because they don't have a marquee win. Georgia did have the awful loss to Auburn as a 20 -point favorite. so i mean it's It's really hard to say.

Caleb Call: And then after that five, one last team stretch. Yeah. Undefeated Texas Tech. undefeated UCLA. Undefeated Utah. eight through ten to close up the ap top ten and then following that.

Caleb Call: Tennessee, Kentucky. Bama. Houston. I was. so if you're counting. That's four Big 12 teams in the top 14. and Houston and Utah play each other this week. The winner should be in the top ten. If Utah wins, they for sure will be. If Houston wins, I think they'll jump that.

Caleb Call: SEC stretch there. and get themselves into the top 10, could you even just like switch spots with Utah kind of thing. So. That the big 12 has put themselves in a great spot here not just for multiple bids.

Caleb Call: There is a path to three playoff Big 12 teams. i don't think the world's ready for that the SEC would They would. be crying about that all day long. 2014 playoff is coming next year or so.

Caleb Call: Really, you can listen to all the complaints. It won't matter. The SECs can have seven playoff teams next year. But to close out the 12 -team era... There is a chance for the big 12 to really build some respect here if BYU keeps winning if Texas Tech keeps winning Whoever wins out of Utah and Houston, if they keep winning, I mean, yeah, you're going to. You should have three playoff teams at that point. and it's just It's been a fun season so far.

Caleb Call: There are six undefeated teams in the whole country. Big 12 has three of them. I don't think anybody saw that coming preseason, but shout out to the top of the conference for winning.

Caleb Call: how they were supposed to And... I'm in the top 25. Arizona sneaks in their number 25. Their only loss. is in Provo. to the current number two BYU Cougars.

Caleb Call: So Arizona's sitting there 5 -1. They've won all five of those games by double digits. They have in two weeks A road trip. To Lubbock. Texas. Going to be a huge game for Arizona.

Caleb Call: They also host Utah later in the year. They host Iowa State this next week. So you've got to beat Iowa State. And then you get to jump into Texas Tech mode with a huge road trip to Lubbock. Super excited to see what the Wildcats do to close the season. Fafita's been great.

Caleb Call: and they're still winning games and Honestly, I was a little bit surprised to see Arizona jump into the rankings when... They were on a buy. and Oregon actually won despite being ahead of Arizona last week. I think just the way Oregon won kind of turned people off.

Caleb Call: On Oregon, they did not look great. against Nebraska for most of that game. They had zero points at halftime. Just an ugly game all around offensively for Oregon. So Arizona sneaks in.

Caleb Call: And you've got. Five ranked big 12 teams and the first team out is Oklahoma State. So Been a great season for the Big 12. Can't wait to see what happens the rest of the year.

Caleb Call: And we're going to have a. preview episode for It's a little bit lighter of a week 8. both the way college football is. You can't assume any week's going to be light going in. We could have some mayhem.

Caleb Call: another 2007 type week. BYU has a trap game. Utah has college game day coming to town. so It's going to be a fun week of football. Can't wait to see what happens again. Thanks for listening. Like, subscribe. Hopefully we'll have Ben back for the next one. But thanks for listening anyways, even with just me here. so Go Cougs.
