DailySaintsPod: Hello and welcome back once again to episode 513 of the Daily Saints pod. My name is Greg. As always today, joined by my good friend and wonderful co -host, Zach.
DailySaintsPod: Am I? Bye. Ta -da! Let's go with football, won't we?
Zak: Man, it was really thrilling when all of those goals were scored.
Zak: I really like the one scored by... And also the other goal scored by...
DailySaintsPod: I mean, look. it's It was a frustrating day out at St Mary's. I think it's reasonable to say it was a frustrating game.
Zak: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: But... In the scheme of things... Seven points in a week. We won the one that mattered. Last week.
Zak: Yeah, but I also think...
DailySaintsPod: three clean sheets in a row.
Zak: I also just think like having... Laren go out and hopefully let nothing be too serious. At least that's what Tonda said. Downs is out to the point where potentially he's going to miss.
Zak: West Ham. which is a bigger deal than...
DailySaintsPod: Uh, I did see in one of my groups. someone say they had seen him that day at St Mary's and he was on right cheeks.
Zak: Yeah, he was at a boot. So I think he was still driving, but it's like.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: I... it It will be a stretch to get him back before Saturday. I don't think that's the end of the world. and I don't actually think it was even the midfield that... that we had problems in right it was more the fact that apparently even when we have open goal chances every single player decided to become Shea Adams or Adam Armstrong where like they're like oh that looks like it's gonna okay no they didn't put it away all that look oh no they kicked that over oh no and and it's just yeah
Zak: That was probably the most frustrating thing about it. And obviously we're going to get to the big talking point. of of the the penalty.
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: where we all have our thoughts and by that I mean it's a stone cold pen any day of the week The ref almost blew the whistle. And then didn't for some. bizarre reason, relied on the
DailySaintsPod: I've got... look It's not going to surprise you to hear, Zach, that I've probably got an entire segment's worth of comments about the referee. Uh...
Zak: I'm shocked. So we should probably start with talking about the lineup changes and how it...
DailySaintsPod: But yeah. Hmm.
Zak: Well, I think that even Todra admitted it didn't which just didn't really work, is the problem, I think.
DailySaintsPod: Well, I mean, yes and no. i mean In one respect, like... Like I say, it was a frustrating day out. and and all of that completely agreed left very frustrated Buh.
DailySaintsPod: We've seen... Last season. Games like this. Where? you know we've had these clear -cut opportunities that we should have been putting away in scoring. right three Even without the penalty, three...
DailySaintsPod: Definite. sitter chances that should have been put away. but in those games last season. It was frustrating because we didn't do that And we lost.
DailySaintsPod: But... I mean, three clean sheets in a row is nothing to shake a stick at, right?
Zak: No. it's It's a bit of a... Kind of feel bad for Nathan Wood at this point, right? Because now we've got Stephens and Schotterbeck and we've had three games in a row now where we haven't conceded.
Zak: It's not from Bolton's lack of trying and Peretz a couple of times again doing that Boric impression he likes to do.
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: But. He was just, yeah, I just don't know. the The lineup looked a bit... you know a bit healthier It wasn't really much what we expected, but I also just don't think it the changes they did worked.
Zak: I think that...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, I mean, it was kind of closer to the normal starting lineup than the midweek game.
Zak: we we waste.
Zak: Okay.
DailySaintsPod: Right?
Zak: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Like it was the...
Zak: Yeah. True. But what I don't really understand is why we we we try to put Azaza on the right and Leo in the middle when... We've done that before and it's not really worked.
DailySaintsPod: Adieu!
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. it was It was a bit odd. and They were kind of rotating and... and it it was it was almost like it was just a little bit over -engineered, and then maybe it would have come off, but to be fair, to give Bolton credit...
DailySaintsPod: They played their high line very well.
Zak: Well, that's the other thing, right? The amount of offsides in this game was unreal. Because you, you know, making me be your eyes in the sky. We're like, oh, is this Linos just blind? I'm like, no, we just keep getting caught out over and over and over. And I do wonder, I can't, I don't know if that's why Fellows was brought off.
Zak: Or if it was just that, you know, because Matsky came on still with a strapped up leg. which I was a bit kind of confused by. i guess it was to try and make us move into like a more of a normal shape i'm not really sure but it it Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Mm.
Zak: Yeah, just I just didn't work.
DailySaintsPod: but But to their credit, right, it's it's because it was a very effective high line from Bolton.
Zak: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: and And in fact, you could actively see that their players' first thought was... Step out, step forward, create that. that line they it's It's been a part of their game. They've seen some of their fans on social media saying that that's just...
DailySaintsPod: what they do and it's it's clearly having success right like they they are doing very well for a promoted team in the in the league. so you know, credit where credit's due.
Zak: 100%.
DailySaintsPod: and they They set out to frustrate. And like, not even in like a dark artsy kind of way. really either to be honest like it's just it was frustrating because we couldn't break them down
Zak: No, they just... they just They just played well. It doesn't matter.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: But yeah again, like realistically, if we put the chances away, it would have been a different game altogether.
DailySaintsPod: Mmm.
Zak: And I think that that's why a lot of people... really, really frustrated by the penalty. And I get that. But at the same time, as I've always said to you, Greg.
Zak: i would take not having var over having var and occasionally these decisions go against us every day of the week. And I genuinely don't know if I feel like somebody's taking up to take a penalty.
Zak: is going to do better than the fact that we basically missed an open goal like three times. So just it just wasn't. just wasn't the day was it it just felt like it wasn't
DailySaintsPod: Man.
Zak: To be. is kind of how I feel about it. I don't know about you.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, no. it the I... I feel anger. about the misjustice of not only the penalty but the the referee throughout the game.
DailySaintsPod: was was shockingly bad. Probably the second worst referee. I've seen in the championship. Uh... So make of that what you will.
DailySaintsPod: But it was it was just a horrible performance from him.
Zak: well they they picked up like double the amount of cards as us though like towards the end of the game when they were like frustrating us a little bit more and and making he was getting those decisions right it's just that when you've got such a big decision like that and you almost blow the whistle
DailySaintsPod: And...
DailySaintsPod: But it's it's not that great. It's like the basics. like giving goal kicks when it's a corner.
Zak: Yeah, no, you're right though you're right.
DailySaintsPod: And...
Zak: We did call that out.
DailySaintsPod: and And like, it's just... And... And... like repeatedly when Both teams trying to speed up the game and take quick throw -ins. Take care. quick free cakes.
Zak: Bringing it back.
DailySaintsPod: pulling the game back and slowing it down. It's like this is the opposite of what we're trying to do with the rules in the game at the moment. What difference does it make? that the ball is. half a yard literally half a yard difference. from It's just...
DailySaintsPod: It was just incredibly frustrating.
Zak: Yeah, it's the...
DailySaintsPod: all the way through.
Zak: it's the
DailySaintsPod: But at the end of the day...
Zak: It's the different interpretation of the rules that's always frustrating because all we've ever asked for is consistency and we never really get that. And I don't think we're ever going to get that because that's unfortunately the human element.
DailySaintsPod: No.
DailySaintsPod: Right, and then you get...
Zak: and unless we get to a point where it's automatic it's not going to be like that
DailySaintsPod: And then you get the penalty shout. And his penalty is is as p as clear as day. hit that Your hand above your head is not...
Zak: Yeah, 100%.
DailySaintsPod: an actual position uh it's very clearly hit him on the arm, in the box, in an unnatural position. And he yeah he's put the whistle to his lips. bottled the decision.
DailySaintsPod: The fourth official told Tonda that it hit the player on the head, which is, if that's you know in real time, I mean, I, with my bad eye, stood in the northern block. The other side of the pitch could... clearly see him as a handball but fine you want to say that him on the head He gave a goal kick! by Yes. So...
DailySaintsPod: It was... Yeah, it was frustrating. But like you say, at the end of the day, as frustrating as that single decision is... we should be doing more than relying on a penalty to beat Bolton. And we got the ball into those positions. and And it's just, it was...
DailySaintsPod: It was like such frustrating misses as well.
Zak: It was one of those...
DailySaintsPod: Like Leo.
Zak: Not only that, it was one of those things where, bear in mind bear in mind the the game beforehand, right? uh some people said it was like you know a game of the understudies everybody kind of stepped up and you know early early game it was a we were pretty critical of you know
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: of Dobbin and, you know, ABBA and the kind of the people that had come in and it wasn't quite what we wanted to do. We still got the goal. And also. there was some contributions in other ways. With this, it was the, if there were people, if there were guys that were meant to come on and step up and and really, you know, pull the trigger.
Zak: They didn't, but then either did our main... Strikeforce, right? Like, you know, Cienza's miss was silly.
DailySaintsPod: and
Zak: Lauren. the law. Every opportunity that was given to every single one of our players did not...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. I mean...
Zak: end up Going in the goal.
DailySaintsPod: i I mean, it's it's. It's frustrating. And like the one Sienza cut back to Brie, who then somehow put it over the bar.
Zak: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And I think the one, I don't know if it is. The... It feels harsh to say because it's it's against Dobbin and I feel... Oh. bad for criticising, but there's there's one where he's right in front of me, completely thrown goal. He's actually...
DailySaintsPod: you know stayed onside and run through behind the defenders in his one -on -one, and he... tries to score with the outside of his foot. and puts it past the post. I'm like...
DailySaintsPod: Just... Like! je You struggling for go? I don't know if you're low on confidence or or just... But, you you know, you're facing these question marks over your nine million signings. Just like...
DailySaintsPod: Kick the ball at the goal properly. Why are you trying to, like, Trevelo it? Like... We're in the championship against Bolton. Just... put your foot through the ball and hit it at the goal.
Zak: with thus If that's the case, if we, like, we've...
DailySaintsPod: Like...
Zak: we've Bas was our previous goalkeeper. And me and you have discussed a lot of the time that his biggest problem was that if someone decided to rat actually kick the ball at him...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah
Zak: From quite far out. or, you know, unexpectedly. He struggled to react with that. We didn't try it that once.
DailySaintsPod: Oh yeah, I like... Tonda is a man of statistics and... bazunu i'm pretty comp i mean When he played for us last season, he was the goalkeeper who had conceded... the most goals from shots outside of the box.
DailySaintsPod: So just shoot. look just Just hit the ball to the goal. And we didn't we didn't do anywhere near enough to test him.
Zak: I... I just think it was i think it was formation over complicated.
Zak: I also, I don't know if you saw the post. match comments about Mbama and why he he really wanted to bring him on but couldn't quite really bring him on. Now, I'm not saying that Alfie listens to us.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: because i Genuinely don't think he does. Bye. He did point out, make the point that I made in the week, which is... if mcbarber was the nine million pound player And Dobbin wasn't. it's probably Obama that's getting game time and not Dobbin. And that is genuinely kind of how I feel is that because we have to kind of, you know,
Zak: work these players in but it just it just seemed to be a little bit too complicated and obviously luckily it didn't have anything disastrous you know it's a really solid point for Bolton Uh,
Zak: a really frustrating point for us. It wasn't a loss. It wasn't like the Wrexham game where it was like the last minute of the game we end up losing. But it just kind of feels like there was there was there was just too much going on.
Zak: And without that target man, turns out that when you try and
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: pepper balls to a box without... a target man there You don't. you don't and it doesn't really pay off right It was just one of those games.
DailySaintsPod: No. So... So Laren came off. very early.
Zak: Mmm.
DailySaintsPod: I mean...
Zak: Luckily nothing too extreme apparently like it just looks to be you know
DailySaintsPod: have And we...
Zak: you had a strain and wanted to come off and didn't want to aggravate it more but Obviously, so early. So early for him to come off. for what we'd have preferred.
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: It's just... annoying. Because... you know It seems like that kind of curse of... everyone's completely hyped him up, right? He was top goal scorer of the championship.
Zak: All of a sudden, he's getting into interviews across the board, media interviews. He gets given the keys to the city. And like I feel like at some point, you do something like that, it sort of just goes to the head a little bit.
Zak: And then obviously you start thinking a bit too much.
DailySaintsPod: I don't think it's that, though. No, I just i just think like he obviously no he obviously hurt himself.
Zak: No?
DailySaintsPod: on away on international duty. And I just don't think he's quite recovered from that. and like Whether this this injury that he's gone off with is directly linked to it or not, if you're...
DailySaintsPod: If you're playing Not at 100%. you're more likely to... also hurt something else, right?
Zak: Well, I'm just...
DailySaintsPod: like Because you cause you're overcompensating.
Zak: playing Obama then, isn't it?
DailySaintsPod: But... But how can you? But how can you because of how important Laron is to the team? We're literally just talking about how without him in the team, we look completely different and and struggle since he went off.
Zak: Okay, flip flip side of that though, but when we were talking about what Downs was saying he might be able to get make it to the weekend, obviously he didn't because clearly he was far more injured than either he said or he thought he was.
DailySaintsPod: and and that
Zak: But you said almost exactly the opposite, which is, oh, well, if Downs is injured, we don't want to risk it.
DailySaintsPod: Mm.
Zak: And he's one of our best players at the moment.
DailySaintsPod: you know and
Zak: So...
DailySaintsPod: I agree, and I agree in principle. with with larry but the problem is you name a team without larry in it and the immediate it It immediately lacks the presence.
DailySaintsPod: Of. of not of a goal scoring threat because we've got them in the team, but of... of a player that you look at and go he's going to be the player that steps up and gets this goal if we're having a rough day at the office here. He's the player that can step up and create a goal out of nothing.
DailySaintsPod: I don't know if if I feel that cutting edge. really with anyone else.
Zak: Not fit as ass.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. I mean yeah.
Zak: fascinating
DailySaintsPod: I mean, he might create he might create the The - the - cause of the magic, but evidently... as yesterday demonstrates without larry on the pitch that's not necessarily enough Like... it I don't know. it's It's really tricky and I don't know, it's...
DailySaintsPod: It's like... like an aura that he brings to the pitch about that right and i think that that makes the rest of the team.
Zak: so the The problem is... is
DailySaintsPod: more likely to score as well
Zak: Are we also overcomplicating our analysis?
DailySaintsPod: I can't really put it into words.
Zak: Because it could just be that... Because if we put away any of the chances that we had, clear cut. against Bolton.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: This wouldn't have been a conversation. Like I thought we would have conceded.
DailySaintsPod: No, we'd have had three... you No, you're right. We'd have been 3 -1 -0s in a week and the conversation would have been...
Zak: I would have been like, oh, it's incredible. All of that all of our player can score.
DailySaintsPod: Zach's jinxed it into play. Yeah, Zach's jinxed it into play because he said he couldn't remember the last time he won 1 -0. So now we've done it three times in a week. and no I think you're right.
DailySaintsPod: It's just one of those frustrating... days where where it didn't quite go for us some kind of like voodoo hex around the goal or something i don't know or maybe because we were putting ourselves in positions like i'm pretty sure in the last minute of the game I watched Kevin Schlotterbeck try to curl one in the top corner.
Zak: Yeah, it was
DailySaintsPod: and And I was angry. I was angry at first because I didn't see who it was and it was a poor shot. And I went, oh, that's rubbish. And then I saw it was Schlatterbeck and I went... oh well I guess he gets off for not shooting well because he's centre back a it but why is he the person taking the shot in that position it's just But yeah. It's just...
DailySaintsPod: Look. You've got to try and... take the step back like we so often talk about i think like seven points in a week is really good.
Zak: Yeah.
Zak: And quite frankly, again, like...
DailySaintsPod: Bet. Better than... Better than our average, I'm pretty sure. Normally, especially in three three games in, I mean, this was three games in six days, but three games in seven days, normally the third game.
DailySaintsPod: We always struggle. and And normally it's it's something odd. So so seven points. is is something to be very happy with and like i say we won the important one last week and we won a very tough game away from home in the week with rotation.
DailySaintsPod: and And we... we should you know We did enough that we probably should have won this one as well. But... you know Sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
Zak: Okay, well, teams we're paying attention to.
DailySaintsPod: and
Zak: Obviously West Ham and Swansea, Swansea being top at the time. West Ham being like third. West Ham won, so that was a 1 -0 win for them. You look at Borough, who also drew against Cardiff.
Zak: who are a newly promoted team. who at one point they were two nil down to card if they struggled they labored to get their draw Right. uh newly promoted lincoln managed to draw with Millwall. It just seemed to be one of those kind of days around the championship. Watford, who have been horrifically struggling, managed to beat Charlton.
Zak: There's just lots of those types of results. Pompey beat Norwich. like Wrexham had a 4 -1 win against Preston. It... In the grand scheme of things, it's not.
Zak: as much of a problem as we'd like it to be it would have been in an ideal world nine points to be fantastic and the the kind of, I'm not going to call it injury crisis, but the sudden...
DailySaintsPod: concerned.
Zak: occurrence of injuries and injury concerns have
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: caused everybody to immediately start thinking again about the squad depth issue that has kind of lingered since the end of the transfer window, where we kind of feel like we didn't do enough. and that Maybe some of the players we brought in. weren't quite up to what we wanted and clearly like obama was never the number one target i think that was made quite clear and obvious towards the end.
Zak: I would say that considering a lot of our fan base were still hoping we'd go in for Danny Ings, a man that's now playing at Wickham Wanderers, maybe we're all actually not qualified to scout professional players.
DailySaintsPod: but
Zak: And maybe it's that, you know... but Obama what is going to get... probably more minutes, whether we like it or not. And maybe he starts scoring and it's not a problem. Same with Dobbin. It's just frustrating because it's been a week of, you know.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, look. and and And actually, as aside from the very frustrating miss, which... which To be fair, any other day... probably isn't even... 10 % is frustrating because you haven't got the other context of the rest of the game around it. I actually thought Dobbin was very good when he came on. And he he really likes running at the back line and putting the pressure on. And actually having him and Fellows on together, applying that press with Leo as well, was very effective.
DailySaintsPod: What was a bit frustrating, and I think... I think this is why... Finnazaz picks up the criticism he picks up. because I think... Especially, it was really evident.
DailySaintsPod: in the press when you had Those three, Fellow Sienza and Dobbin, all pressing. fast and high pressure at the same time. Finnezas was always like four steps further away from the player he should have been pressing than anyone else, and it was...
DailySaintsPod: like really visible and in a game where it's it's already, you know, the frustration is building that we're... We do. you know, putting this team away. I think that is like one of the things that he picks up criticism for, and I'm sure that by being that many steps... where he is in his positioning, it probably adds a different element to his game that's not as visibly obvious or you know what opens up the the view of the game. He has to make the passes, he has to get assists.
DailySaintsPod: So far be it from me to sit here and criticize his positioning. But I think that... That. kind of visible element is why he why he frustrates people.
Zak: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: But...
Zak: i guess so i've seen i've seen
DailySaintsPod: You know, it's like you say, it's just one of them things. You're right. On on any other day... one to three of those chances goes in and it's a completely different kettle of fish anyway and like they The game opened up a bit in the second half, but...
DailySaintsPod: I didn't really. threaten our goal either. Not that I can remember. I can't remember anything that was... particularly concerning like it it opened up as it probably needed to. for us to be able to progress. but
Zak: There are a couple of like... Almost mistakes.
DailySaintsPod: Hmm.
Zak: and But it wasn't anything crazy, but then I'm sure Bolton will take it anyway. They had at one point... more touches inside our books than we have in theirs which says a lot about you know
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: having all that possession. didn't mean that they weren't a team and i think you know somebody said beforehand I think a Bolton fan commented on our match preview that clearly we don't lot watch a lot of them because they will they will play like that and they will...
Zak: go down fighting if that's the case. and you know, it paid off for them because the 0 -0 in a really tough place is is good for that team.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, well, what's up? And if, if you you know... and just Despite that me taking that feeling purely from like vibes of watching the game and watching it, if you look at the statistics on the BBC website...
DailySaintsPod: All of the stats are really like... even across the board. I'm sure we had a lot more possession than them. everything else is is fairly evenly shared we had slightly higher xg for whatever that's worth the only stat that stands out as completely one -sided was total offside, in which we had 10 and they had zero.
DailySaintsPod: So...
Zak: Yeah, I think it was.
DailySaintsPod: he and see And that's the problem, right?
Zak: That was frustrating.
DailySaintsPod: If if you're just offside, you're stopping your attack immediately dead and giving the ball back to them effectively. and it just can't couldn't quite get it going from there and then when we did manage to pull it off and get him behind we just weren't clinical enough with what we had And I mean, there's there's an argument to be had that with the the way the game played out and as much possession we have, that we should have been creating more chances than we had.
DailySaintsPod: But we had enough clear chances that we should have put them away. And I mean, 14 shots we had. but only two on target.
Zak: Well, not only that, we'd have had significantly more time if we didn't have to stop the game for 10 off sides.
DailySaintsPod: I mean...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: That's the other thing is sometimes we're like, oh yeah, we've had all this possession. I'm like, yeah, but if the amount of time that we're just having to... past possession back for no reason whatsoever and not really being able to build anything up and i've seen other other it's it's kind of wild to me how how quick
Zak: people have been to kind of jump on the back of a lot of our players as well. I've seen criticism across the board for like Leo and, you know, as well and and Wellington and that kind of stuff. And I just, I don't think it's that deep. I think it was a game where maybe the instructions were a bit too complicated. Bolton played better than I think most of us expected them to. Some people even said they had a feeling before the game had game that it was going to kind of maybe play out a little bit.
Zak: Well... like a little bit worse than they They initially thought it was going to... Bolton played a really really good game. they managed to get a really good good point.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: frustratedly for us but at the same time it wasn't a loss so it's not the end of the world we will move on and we'll probably not talk about this ever again unless of course we end up in a situation where maybe we
DailySaintsPod: We're two points off.
Zak: yeah, we're two points off. We might look bad and then we could go back and go, oh, I thought we'd beaten Bolton in that game. but But that's just the reality of the situation.
DailySaintsPod: i think I think that there are going to be... They have been already in this season and will be. throughout the rest of the season. other points that we will drop that will be in a sillier fashion.
DailySaintsPod: And at the end of the day, you can't win every game in this league because if you could, it would be a boring league and not the best league in the world that we love, right?
Zak: No, if you could, you'd be like Burnley, go up, one it win every single like almost every single game and just come back down straight away with...
DailySaintsPod: and uh
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. I know. And I think that...
Zak: about learning nothing.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: like That's the other problem.
DailySaintsPod: And I think the reason that it feels as frustrating, apart from obviously that it was frustrating that we had the chances and missed them and that the referee's decision was that bad, but added it adds to it. because actually winning these kind of games where they're a struggle.
DailySaintsPod: And that's the thing right, in one of these games where it feels more like points. dropped than points gained.
Zak: Yep.
DailySaintsPod: Those are more resounding. because we started... From behind. right it's because we started with this four point deduction and the feeling is that we can't really afford to drop points like this.
DailySaintsPod: But at the end of the day... It's... It's another point. Still unbeaten at home. Three clean sheets in a row. Plenty of positives to be taken. even without our main striker we created chances we just didn't put them away and That's still a good thing.
DailySaintsPod: you know These are problems that we've talked about for for years on the show now, so it's not not exactly new.
Zak: you're You're also a...
DailySaintsPod: ground
Zak: You're also right. because when you say When I said the only way we're ever going to talk about this game is if we miss out on two points, what I forgot is that if we miss out by two points, so all they're going to talk about is the deduction.
Zak: So in actual fact, I don't think anyone's going to remember this game apart from Bolton fans.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: And fair play, because...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Zak: they They took Southampton to a 0 -0 draw at home and managed to get away with a penalty.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. Yeah. And a genuine fair play to Bolton fans because they were very loud, very vocal.
Zak: Mm.
DailySaintsPod: Good Sam supporters. It was a brilliant atmosphere at St Mary's, actually, kind of throughout the game, despite the building frustration. Yeah, just one of those days.
Zak: onto the next one, innit?
DailySaintsPod: Uh... On to the next one. and you know It's not like we've got a tough fixture next week. I'm sure that everything will be fine.
DailySaintsPod: Right? Yeah.
Zak: Right, depends. How many players are we going to triple stack onto Jared Bowen, right? like Four, five? It's going to be like that time that you thought that, like, oh, it's he's been really smart here.
DailySaintsPod: Uh,
Zak: Russell Martin's took two people. Oh, no, it turns out that they were just completely out of position. Right.
DailySaintsPod: No, it's an even crazier tactical play than that, mate. We stick on an injured Flynn Downs to take a sacrificial red card to go out there and just break his leg.
Zak: No, I don't like that.
DailySaintsPod: Hmm
Zak: Plus, I don't think that we'd want to play Flynn Downs.
DailySaintsPod: I've only got... I've only got 14 minutes in my legs, so I'm gonna go out there and do them in the... the most effective way possible.
Zak: against like his childhood team who he probably still has a tiny at least a little bit of you know
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. Yeah.
Zak: Not loyalty, I suppose, but...
DailySaintsPod: don't I don't know with Flynn Downs if that's the kind of thing that would soften him to a game or fire him up more for a game to go and kick someone.
Zak: I just don't think that that's how we should win. I think we should just outscore them and it'll be great and it'll be fine.
DailySaintsPod: yep Simple game, innit? Kick the ball in the net more than you let the opponent score in yours.
Zak: man if only it's crazy that we can talk about it for 30 minutes every single time and and then every and then another two and a half hours during the week and then And then when we're in our own free time as well.
Zak: And then we talk about another type of ball being kicked for another hour or so every week.
DailySaintsPod: No, I don't want to talk about that anymore.
Zak: It's weird, isn't it?
DailySaintsPod: I'm done with it, mate. I've seen the Eagles score today and I'm just out.
Zak: Hehehehe.
DailySaintsPod: That's just... Don't know what you're talking about. Right, but look, that is all we've got time for today. So thank you, everyone, for listening. Thank you, Zach, as always, for joining me. We will be back tomorrow, and shwee!
DailySaintsPod: Should we take the opportunity of a game week with no midweek game to to do a nice championship roundup, mate? It's been a little while.
Zak: yeah I'd be right considering I gave out most of the scores today anyway there were some interesting games this weekend to be honest so I'm quite happy to talk about that
DailySaintsPod: Heh. But yeah, it was some good ones. Definitely. So, yeah, we will be back tomorrow to talk about that. But until then, look, let us know your thoughts, your opinions, how you're feeling about the weekend, about the bottom game.
DailySaintsPod: Just... par for the course and to be expected that we can't win every game in this league or was this one particularly important against the newly promoted side I don't know. I think they're performing better than than that particular tag gives them credit for. so We will see. But yeah, let us know. We are Daily Saints Pod absolutely everywhere. X, Blue Sky, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. Hit us up.
DailySaintsPod: and let us know. Uh, Until tomorrow, everyone, though, have a wonderful day and we will see you then.
