Recap and Werewolf Secret

00:00:56
Speaker
Gentlemen, what happened last time?
00:01:00
Speaker
uh we resupplied in sharn yep and that's it that's it i was in san diego when it dropped so i didn't listen we ate snails very good snails good snails uh dex became a werewolf if that is interesting to anybody and hasn't told anyone he's going to i'm not keeping it a secret i know okay you just haven't yet well it's who knows what's going to happen in this bar we just walked into
00:01:30
Speaker
So Dex decided

Meeting at Black Dog Bar

00:01:31
Speaker
he wanted to ask around about dragon activity and, um, decided the best place to do that would be the black dog. We walk into the black dog and we are confronted by a familiar face that somehow recognizes our faces. Were you Lyle down there or were you Vern? She's got that heartbeat thing on me anyway. So right now that you're a Lycanthrope again. Yeah. Um, yeah. So Trina sees you.
00:02:00
Speaker
What?

Dragon Troubles

00:02:01
Speaker
Oh, dip. Hey, uh, next is going to pretend you remember her name. Hey, Trina. Uh, what are you doing here? I'm at work. Well, okay. Pardon me. What I hear. Why am I not in storm reach? Well, not so much. Why are you not in storm reach? Because I know why you're not in storm reach. I have a good idea. How come no one.
00:02:27
Speaker
Let me see about this. So Solana, I met her down in Sharon. She and I've been talking and working together and stuff. Uh, and Barrick can hear this and I know we can hear this. Um, they think you're dead. Well, we,
00:02:50
Speaker
As far as I know, I'm the only one that made it out. We got split up, the black dog was attacked, and we don't know why. It seemed very targeted, the attack on the black dog. So we split up, disappeared on the wind, and we're not entirely certain whether or not they knew about the nature of the black dog just by reputation or if somebody on the inside told them.
00:03:19
Speaker
So we're holding our cards kind of close to the vest and most of us newest, most people in the organization knew us by name and not. Right. So if you would be so kind, my name is cordless.
00:03:40
Speaker
All right, Corla. Um, so you're saying they're still, you don't know where Sigur is either. No. All right. That's a bummer. Uh,
00:03:54
Speaker
And I, I, I tell her, I say, uh, well, I've been very, uh, do y'all guys know this need to know this too. Um, I'd been training with, uh, Solana and, uh, I've taken the pack back. Um, not a bear this time. Don't worry. And, uh, that was the problem before it was being a bear. It was specifically a bear. That was the problem. Yeah. Well, uh,
00:04:26
Speaker
Here's, I gotta, we've heard tell of some dragons around here. Just one. Just one, a red one, is that?

Strategies and Allies

00:04:36
Speaker
Uh, yes. Um, we've, um.
00:04:42
Speaker
We've heard memorings as well, and there have been a couple sightings of a red dragon flying both to and from the west of Fairhaven towards the mountain ranges that are out there. So to answer your question, yes. The primary target of attacks and things like that have been farmers, crops, livestock, things like that.
00:05:11
Speaker
Any common theme among those attacked? Uh, if there is nothing that has been apparent or discussed. All right. Um, to the West, you say, what is to the West of us? Um, is there a mountain range? Eventually. Eventually.
00:05:39
Speaker
If you keep going west, you end up just east of where you are. So yeah, eventually I'm west of me. The Gerhorn Mountains, which is the border between Eldian reaches and the Demon Wastes, is the largest mountain range to the west of us. Given how quickly a dragon can fly, probably a few hour travel for them, a day and a half's ride, and an airship less, maybe a day.
00:06:08
Speaker
or so. All right. Where's thing? Are you looking to go dragon hunting? We're not not that we are interested in this particular dragon in the general sense.
00:06:39
Speaker
Can I ask Corla? Yeah. Wow. There's no reason for you to share this with anybody, right? No. All right. I'm just, you know, if it comes to the point where we do need to, uh,
00:06:58
Speaker
engage with this dragon. We'd like to have the drop on him a bit. Well, I am simply, uh, giving the mountains as a point of reference simply because that's typically the habitat of a red dragon. Um, it might be entirely possible that he set up residence somewhere else to the west, but yeah, this one time we've had a dragon whose lair was underground. That was cool. Did you kill it? We don't like

Dragon Intentions Debate

00:07:25
Speaker
to talk about it. We didn't kill it.
00:07:28
Speaker
It was long dead. Dead. And good riddance, am I right? The light in the room just changed pretty dramatically. Sorry with whatever happened with that black dragon. Corla, it was a bad day. I didn't say black dragon. What do you know? Just caught you like Encyclopedia Brown. You were the black dragon the whole time.
00:07:52
Speaker
particular kind of livestock. Large, primarily cows, cattle, snails. How big a boy is he? I mean,
00:08:13
Speaker
Did you describe him as large, huge gargantuan? I mean, gargantuan. I feel like people throw gargantuan around an awful lot. Mine was more based on his size. I just. Because I don't know this either, because I don't know anything, guys. I did know that one thing from earlier that made us stop the show for a minute.
00:08:40
Speaker
Can she tell us if she has seen it or heard tell of its size and idea of its age is where I was trying to go. Or it's maturity. Didn't they tell us? Tell us it was younger than them. That's all they said was younger than them. And there we've learned, I've learned older than dragons are supposed to be able to be. Let's imagine, if you will, Corla, the world were divided into five foot squares.
00:09:11
Speaker
and this dragon were to land. How many of those squares? It's about 15 feet by 15 feet. I would call that huge, wouldn't you call that huge? It's bigger than me. Sure. I don't even feel this five by five piece of crap. I could share this with Booyah and half of you.
00:09:35
Speaker
Uh,

Dragon Encounter Planning

00:09:36
Speaker
man. Well, do you know if there's any, I mean, these, do you all want anything to drink? Well, I mean, you're a ball. Well, Booyock can't open his hat. Uh, I know. I know. I'm just, you can take the helmet off. You just can't open a face plate or anything. I'll have an ale. Uh,
00:10:04
Speaker
wine, I suppose, fine. What kind of wine? Ale wine, which we learned about it. But these people, I'm sorry. Pardon me. We all have ale. Two ales and just wine, generally. It said red. Red, did not hear you. And so she starts preparing the drinks while you continue to talk.
00:10:33
Speaker
These folks who've been victims of this dragon, they just kind of are like, well, what are we going to do about it? Has there been an uprising? Has there been talk? Have you guys talked about calling the.
00:10:42
Speaker
Dragon equivalent of a van Helsing. Uh, there's been some call for, uh, for the on Darian military or the Knights of Thrain, um, or, um, the, the Knights arcane, the. Canics people want somebody to do something, but they've been dragging the heels. Are they just not interested in helping her? Somebody even putting the kibosh on and get them involved.
00:11:04
Speaker
I mean, based on public perception, what I've been hearing and seeing is just the government does not want to risk potential loss of life dealing with the dragon, especially one of the size. Is there a reward? That would be the purview of the Hunter's Guild, but presumably, I mean, there's just kind of a... Is the reward going to be bigger than the bounty is going to be is the question. Yeah.
00:11:31
Speaker
Okay, a point of order is on on there is a monarchy. It's not like sharn where there's, yeah, there's no, there's no, I don't think there is in the triumph. Yeah. As the queen and her counselors. So when she says the government is stopping it, she means someone in the royal family is stopping it. I can make a guess as to who
00:11:56
Speaker
Well, if we're going after it, I would prefer to go after it in the countryside. Yeah, absolutely. It would be difficult to bring it down, but. Yeah, no, I mean, we catch it while it's sleeping and bippity boppity boo. Oh, I don't have any idea where it's layer is. I was thinking we've got a lot of cows together.
00:12:15
Speaker
Oh, I like this. Right. I like this. So we disguise ourselves as cows. No, I'm not. No, that I'm, I'm firmly against that. Okay. Okay. Part I'm just, there are no wrong answers in a brain. That's the wrong answer. There are. Let me repeat there. Nope. I could give you the ability to turn into a cow if that would help. I know for a fact that you're of a different persuasion.
00:12:42
Speaker
I don't know what that means. He's aware tiger, right? Yeah. He's not aware cow. I know. But Barak is terrified of saying anything about lycanthropy in Fairhaven in Barakas. Yeah. So wait. So this is the worst place and the worst time for us to discuss lycanthropy with a lycanthrope. In a lycanthrope bar. In a lycanthrope bar.
00:13:07
Speaker
They knew it was a lycanthrope bar. Right. And that's why Barak doesn't want to say anything that could be interpreted as having to do with lycanthropy. I'm not saying anything either. This is why Barak didn't say anything less murky. Good thing. With Barak under the impression that you can only turn, like he said, that you can't turn me into a cow because you're a tiger. It's a very good thing that he has no idea that the first I was meeting with is some some goat demon.
00:13:34
Speaker
And he's the impression that that's what's about to happen to me. Yeah, no countryside is definitely a good opportunity. Because also then the relevant disguise of said dragon would just appear to vanish. Right. Exactly. Yeah. And, you know, and I guess there's a, Hey, corner, we're going to grab a table over here.
00:14:04
Speaker
All right. So we go, we go sit in a spot where we can speak more openly about more things. I don't think Dex still probably says anything about a prince, but all right. So that, I mean, are you all trying to have a private conversation? Is that possible in here? I mean, you know that they're like black dogs are kinda, I mean, they're an institution, so they're going to have a basement in an office. And I mean, she can give you a private place to have a conversation. Okay. That's an N right? So they have rooms.
00:14:32
Speaker
Do they have a family discount? I mean, she can provide you with one of the private spaces to just have the conversation. A room. Right. We got a party room in the back. Can we have the honeymoon suite? I just assume it's going to be a larger space than it. We just need to have a conversation where people might not over here. Sure. When I think she understood that by what I said, Barrick, thank you. Right. But I was imagining there's an audience that might be confused.
00:15:02
Speaker
Head on upstairs, left door on the left. Fine. So Dex leads the way, gets to the end of the hallway, starts to turn right, stops, makes L's with his hands, says, okay, no, hang on, sorry. And goes to the last door on the left. And says,
00:15:20
Speaker
All right. So this party is coming up. This thing, like the feast, the feast, right. Right. That's something we ought to attend or something we ought to spend that time doing elsewhere for the recon. Well, I think our best bet is to catch the thing in transit or while hunting. Everyone give me perception checks real quick. Passives relevant here. Uh, no.
00:15:50
Speaker
Well, I'm distracted having a conversation. 22. 26. A billion. A billion. 35. Okay. 4. 5. 3545. 3545. Okay, I'm putting that in my pocket for, but you all, you all did good. I'm just trying to get an assessment. Continue. Okay. Cool. Eric looks around, or Dex looks around.
00:16:16
Speaker
Are there any life energies in the room? No. Okay. Oh God, what happened to us? We've been dead the whole time. I'm not untrue. Um, all right. Uh, right. No, I totally agree. Like we're not going to, oh, we're not doing another, um, another strength nap and party. Oh, I was thinking of the last time that two powerful figures hired us to assassinate someone who was inconvenient to them.
00:16:47
Speaker
Yeah, I remember that too. Um, I'm just saying we're not trying

Resource Gathering and Airship Preparation

00:16:52
Speaker
anything at the feast. Oh no. No, absolutely not. That'd be in the case. I don't see any reason to attend and attending it. I mean, Hey, maybe, uh, maybe I misunderstood. Maybe you know better than me, Barrick. Well, I, I, is this a,
00:17:08
Speaker
a public thing, this feast, like every, it's like a, like a carnival, like a, or is it like a private for the well to do sort of thing. The information that Charlie gave you is the only information you have right now, which was a feast is coming up. I don't know, but I would imagine that not just anyone can walk into the Royal feast. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I would assume. Uh,
00:17:37
Speaker
How are we to spend our time? You guys got any gathering cattle? We just start gathering cattle and tethering them in the countryside, but to the west of us, I was thinking if we got a lot of them, if we get a lot of them together, it would be an attempting target for the creature. Uh, don't think he, we, I wonder, think suspicious. We could.
00:17:59
Speaker
Is there not already the sort of place around here where there might be a concentration of cattle, like say some sort of cattle range? Possibly. Um, if we could find out its usual flight path, if it has one, we could try to lay along that during the time of this feast and perhaps catch it coming or going. Oh, do we know if he's in town already? I mean, he could already be here. It could be.
00:18:25
Speaker
We'd have to ask that'd be an easy question. I figured we could easily find that out. I just don't know. Is the Prince in town for the feast or, you know, right? No, we can find that out, but either way, I think that that would not alter our, well, yeah. I think we, we watch way he fly and.
00:18:42
Speaker
Well, if we could ask those who've seen him, if there's a usual direction that it flies, I don't think we're going to catch it. Or if there's a perpetual victim. Right. Yes. Then we could assume. This Hunter's Guild might be a good source of information then. Right. So, okay. Let's, let's, let's check in the Hunter's Guild about dragon path information. Let's also, um, maybe dip in next door place that seems a little more up and up. Question.
00:19:10
Speaker
half borrowed time armaments was a warship. Jace has guns. I keep saying this and nobody listens to me. Is it, does it have ballistae and that sort of thing? I'm going to say no. Uh, it was more of a transport ship than a proper warship. Okay. I like where you were going.
00:19:40
Speaker
thing flies. Shoot him out of the sky. Obvious problem is getting it out of the sky or good dealing with it in the sky. Neither of those is particularly likely to succeed. I mean, Barrett can fly magically for a time period for an amount of time. But that's one of us. Yeah, I can fly a little bit. Like
00:20:05
Speaker
No fly. Yeah. Oh, zero fly. This, this guy here. So we either have to ground it or we have to be able to fly for the duration of the fight. There's not a real chance that we can piss it off enough to make it worth its while to stay down and take care of us. Possibly. Perhaps if we start yelling his other name at him while he's feasting on the cows, he might, he might feel the need to shut us up. That's possible. Maybe find lair, catch in lair.
00:20:32
Speaker
Then we have to deal with all that stuff they can do at home. Chasing it into a layer. So it seemed more dangerous, but perhaps, I mean, that might be the thing. Although we certainly need to find out where it's layer is because we were promised the bounty. That's true. And I can't imagine it's just cow bones. No, perhaps the hunter's guild has information about that. Right. And I was saying earlier, um, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to find out if he's already in town. Yeah. A well to do kind of bar would probably have the kind of person that would know the,
00:21:01
Speaker
The ins and outs of the Royal gossip, if you will. I don't necessarily feel like we should split up at any point. All of us has different relevant questions we could ask or insight we could bring to each of these encounters. Fair enough.
00:21:17
Speaker
I don't want to go by myself. I mean, no, no one's going to discuss with Prince at all how he's actually a dragon. Right. And it seems it feels, it feels like only relevant information is how do we get, how do we make ourselves intersect with him in a place where we're not going to be killed by guards? Right. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's almost like if we went to the party.
00:21:39
Speaker
What voice was that? That was not, those weren't vowels that a human says. It's a, it's almost like if we went to the party, uh, we would have to get like extremely lucky to overhear just the right thing. Sure. That might help us when what we're really doing is just further exposing ourselves, making ourselves more noticeable, more recognizable. I don't think I like it. Right.
00:22:09
Speaker
But having said that, I reserve the right to change my mind. If we learn something from the hunters or the, uh, this gossipy person that I've created that knows the, the role that follows the Royal family. Uh, they may change my mind, but that's right now. Yeah. No, I think that what we need to do is figure out where to get to during the party so that we are prepared after it too. Right.
00:22:38
Speaker
Friday Dragon. I'm just saying the Feywild is still very much an option. I mean, Dream Team is unlikely to chase there. Uh, Dex does not go back on his word. Lately. Beric was doing a real quick inventory of Dex's word.
00:23:01
Speaker
I ain't, I ain't never gone back on my word to you. That's fine. I haven't given you my word or anything to do with a dragon or that matter. Dream thieves. Wait, are you getting rid of bail on this with the dream thieves? Uh, no, I think they're unlikely to chase us. There is nothing in their dreams. So, uh, yeah, let's. Okay. So we got two places we want to go talk. Um, we take our glasses back down to the bar.
00:23:29
Speaker
Mine's empty. I don't know about you guys. Very drink some wine. Right. Put it on the thing and well, Corla, uh, might see you again. Have good afternoon. I guess you need anything from me right now. No, you don't know where the dragon layers.
00:23:58
Speaker
I only know the direction. I could send some feelers out if you want. We have agents that you feelers you have would be useful to us. Yeah, absolutely. Also, do you happen just no offhand? What sort of dignitaries are going to be in town or already are in town for this feast? I mean, I know that people have been
00:24:17
Speaker
traveling quite a bit. Even some people from Thalia left their station to come for this event. So I think anybody who's anybody is already here for the preliminary events and things like that. Lots of meetings and whatnot is there a particular individual that you're wanting to know about.
00:24:43
Speaker
Is wondering about the Prince. Yeah, I've never been down there. The Andrean royal family has always been kind of an interesting thing to me. That's a doll. I'm a bit of a, not the younger one. I'm a bit of an on dalo file. Um, a doll is here. I mean, it his home is here. So, um, lives in fair Haven. I swear he's gone a lot. I don't know.
00:25:08
Speaker
All right. I mean, he goes to our kinics, uh, to, uh, deal with the magical side of his, his job, but his day to day is here. So I would assume. Oh yeah. Cause he's the minister of magic and spring war caster first warlord, first warlord. No problem.
00:25:32
Speaker
To be fair, it was Prince of doll who earned those, not this dragon imposter fair enough. That's true. All right. Well, thanks Cora. Um, yeah, we might see around before, before we head out of here. So I'll let you know. Well, no, we'll see around. Cause I'll find, I'd love to hear more about your feelers finding this, where the layer might be. Yeah. And I can, I can send some people out to ask questions. All right. Cool. We appreciate it.
00:26:03
Speaker
I'm a wolf now. I know. She's like, yeah, idiot. I don't have the heartbeat sense and stuff, right? That's just the elders, the originals. Makes sense. I don't know what I'd do with it. Hey, I know where some other lycanthropes are, I guess. It wasn't me, it was him. All right, so Hunter's Guild.
00:26:33
Speaker
Okay. Um, yeah, I mean, it, it's not a secret or anything. So you're able to easily find it. Um, you see a large wooden building with like various antlers and skulls and things like that posted on the front of the building. Um, the largest one being a little on the nose, but a dragon skull over the door. Um, uh, so you all walk in, um,
00:27:01
Speaker
not thinking about the fact that you all have had conversations with dragons and now realize they're sentient, being so hanging a skull of them out in public is kind of... Yeah, it's definitely different than like a dire wolf, yeah. But you see, it seems to be kind of a tavern atmosphere, people standing around, more mounted animals and things like that all over the place. Lots of people in heavy leather armor
00:27:27
Speaker
uh big weapons that just um

Dragon Lore Investigation

00:27:31
Speaker
and there's somebody behind a desk kind of in the center of the room that sees you walk in is there a bounty board obvious anywhere yeah there's a there's a board with different notices and stuff posted do any of them have at least one of you notices
00:27:45
Speaker
Right. Well, what, what, what Dex wants to see if he notices is if any of them are wearing the Royal crest or Royal insignia, somebody who might answer to the Prince or the King and say a bunch of people were coming in today talking about a red dragon that flies around.
00:28:02
Speaker
Um, so you see a couple of people wearing, uh, heavy plate armor with some insignia that designates them as members of Knights, the Knights arcane, which basically answered to somebody who answers to, uh, the Prince. So no direct reports, but I'll do that. Getting up that chain seems slim. Okay. I think so Booyah, you noticed the Mountie board. I do.
00:28:33
Speaker
Consider yourself notice. Booyah goes up to see what's on that bounty board. Okay. Definitely getting some looks and some murmurings as you clank across the... Booyah does not clank.
00:28:51
Speaker
Um, no, it's a metal floor, unfortunately. So everybody, everybody, it's like walking across the grading and whole room sounds like a tin roof and a hail store. Um, but it doesn't take very long, uh, for you to see a crude sketch of a dragon. Uh, and at the top notice posted like,
00:29:11
Speaker
Coalition of Ondarian Farmers ask for the elimination and proof thereof of a red dragon that has cost thousands of dollars in damage and lost life.
00:29:27
Speaker
Is there a contact name? There's the world there for a second. Thousands of gold. The reward, though, Coalition of Adarian Farmers are putting up a sweet prize of 500 gold pieces for the elimination of the dragon.
00:29:48
Speaker
And there is, it just says contact hunters guild for more information. So maybe the front desk person could help you out. Let's talk to the hunter concierge.
00:30:00
Speaker
Hello, welcome to the hunter's guild. How can I help you? We want hunt dragon. Oh, dragon mountain. I mean, we went to the board. It was the biggest number up there. And that's kind of how we roll. But it's not the biggest number. In fact, you're the only people to inquire about it because it's not the best poll. Are you sure you don't want like the Manticore? That's paying a hundred thousand. Porque no dos dos?
00:30:31
Speaker
something the same direction. Yeah, is the Manticore like deep in the Eldean Reach like on the way to the very bad experience in the Eldean reaches last time we were there. Let's not go back. Well, you have experience being there and you made it out alive. But there's a couple other groups. So you might want to step on it if you're going up the Manticore. I think the dragon is more pressing. Yeah, here's the thing. It's it's it is about the money, but it's also about the sport. It's about the it's about it's about the prestige.
00:31:01
Speaker
Dragon. I mean, right? Like dragon. I mean, and what was your look at me? Dragon though. I think you get it. I mean, guys, he gets it. So this dragon.
00:31:19
Speaker
And he begins to unfurl a map on the desk of On Dare, and it is, air quotes, On Dare. You all would recognize it as On Dare and the Eldean Reaches. So based on all accounts from the farmers and everybody, it seems as though this dragon tends to fly off to the west after it's done hunting.
00:31:46
Speaker
And it flies past Owl's perch, and he points to his map, and it's like right on the other side of the border in the Eldean reaches. A farmer that is just outside Othorant spotted it, headed up towards, up near Meryl's Ward. But we're thinking that the layer's probably up somewhere near there.
00:32:11
Speaker
Now, obviously we've tried to put out contact to Meryl's ward a few times, but nobody up there has responded because I can't imagine why. This political thing is they don't like you because you're, because this is on there and not used to be on there. Okay. Yes.
00:32:32
Speaker
Oh, well, I'm glad somebody cleared that up because I thought maybe they were all dead. A lot of groups go after this guy or... No, I mean, 500 gold pieces is not enough to justify going after a red dragon. And it's just because the farmers don't have the gold to back up the need and the government won't step in to help them, right? With a bounty, specifically. Probably. All right. I didn't have direct contact with the farmers. They sent me the notice and...
00:33:01
Speaker
Before we leave this place, Dex is definitely going to the board and looking at what kind of scratch comes with some of these other creatures, because I guarantee you we've killed at least one of them before and probably can again. Good little money for our extreme troubles.
00:33:19
Speaker
But if you were to get some standard horses, be about day and a half's ride to Meryl's Ward, Vadilis horses, probably cut that down. We have transport. Okay. Yeah. I mean, I can just run. Cannon faster than horse. It's true.
00:33:41
Speaker
we need to decide how we're gonna whether we're going to try and take it in transit or try to go into its lair or are you all officially signing up for the bounty oh yes okay um and he begins to pull out a pad of paper it's like all right uh do you all have your traveling papers with you
00:34:03
Speaker
Surely we do. I'm assuming you're not registered with the hunters guild already. Oh, no. Okay. No, we're uh, this is just our identification, right? This is like our passports. Our cardboard protectors of the realm badges work. Uh, not not here. I mean, this is like a bull. Y'all want to talk guys for a sec, please.
00:34:23
Speaker
Surely Booyah has one after being friends with. I mean, every docking station that you all would have stopped at. Like, I'm assuming like Jason Charlie have copies of yours for like who all is on the boat. Here you go. But Booyah, I want to talk very next second. All right. All right. Yep. We go find a corner. You think good idea people know we hunt dragons? I don't see why not. It feels a bit too late.
00:34:51
Speaker
No one knows who he really is. Or is impersonating? Maybe somebody, though. Maybe accomplished people help. Well, I feel like if we can deal with a dragon, we might be able to deal with its minions.
00:35:09
Speaker
And then there's also assuming word gets to, let's, let's stick with Thorolar. Uh, assuming word gets to Thorolar. Uh, he might look at three names and say, yeah, come on. I mean, that's how Eric feels about it. So I don't, I don't think that we, I just wish to bring that up. So, but sound good. We totally, totally fair. Sign up.
00:35:39
Speaker
Okay. So papers, papers, papers, he collects and begins transcribing. No last name. Okay. Um, and, uh, stamps the paper, slips it around, slides, need drawers, marks. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
00:36:08
Speaker
I mean, you don't actually have to do it. You don't need to think about what barracks. No, I was trying to think, how does Barrick figure out where his hand goes to sign a non-magical piece of paper? I'm sure somebody could guide you. Dex signs and then says, so, um, Barrick, do you want me to just do this by proxy? Do you want me to take your hand and put it down? How do you want to?
00:36:37
Speaker
If I say my name, it's fine. All right. I've got his power. Okay. Yeah. Sure. Nice sign. Booyah signs. And I spelled Mark like Booyah just sticks his hand in the ink well and then just like. I was at a right. And I spelled Barrick with two R's because I don't know. He's mad now. E-A-R-R-I-Q-U-E. Barrick.
00:37:05
Speaker
Baroque. Barrique. All right, so you have the location. You do get a stipend of 15 gold pieces each of requisition if you need anything. Healing elements, rations. A ballista. A ballista. That costs a bit more. Worth asking. Yes. We have seen what they can do.
00:37:33
Speaker
Um, not we, we, the human sitting at this table has seen recently what a ballistic might do to a dragon.
00:37:40
Speaker
All right, and because you all are the first ones... Pretty inconsistent though in their accuracy and potency. He's like stamping a couple times and like waving this magical wand thing and you see a blank piece of parchment like purely copy exactly what was on the previous parchment and stamping those. Because you are the first ones to sign up for this, you do have the option to pay three gold pieces to make it an exclusive contract so nobody else can try to get the bounty for one week.
00:38:10
Speaker
We care. I don't care. I don't care. All right. We good. All right. I need at least we have the opportunity to pay this form saying that you waived your right to exclusive rights on the bounty. I'll, I'll sign it and ask, uh, since we're the first ones to sign up for this, I can't imagine we might be able to recruit a fourth person from the guild. I mean, you could pay any of their fees to more than willing to help with the hunt.
00:38:42
Speaker
but their fee is going to eat into the majority of what you're gonna get out of this bounty in the first place. So it'd be ill-advised, but possible. Oh, you mean they asked for payment in thrills? Because that's why we're doing this. Mostly exposure. As long as you tell people they did a good job. Three unknown people walk into a place and go, who wants to work with us for exposure?
00:39:10
Speaker
or protectors of the realm. What realm? A different one. Bye. I'll give you a shout out in Breeland.
00:39:19
Speaker
Okay, so that is all of the disclaimers and everything. Part of the mark that you gave said that you are absolving the Hunter's Guild of any responsibility should any harm, death, or dismemberment happen as a result of seeking out this bounty. Like I said, you have 15 gold pieces worth of requisition if you so desire. If you do not spend that money, it can be added onto the bounty that you receive.
00:39:43
Speaker
I mean, I'm I plan on how much does I like just a healing potion cost that smaller one. 50. Ocean of 50. Yes. Is it 50? Okay. What can one get with 15 gold pieces? Arrows, rations, sleeping bag.
00:40:12
Speaker
I have a sleeping bag. I have a question. Yeah. Going back out in the market square looking up at the airship tower. Are there on the airship airship tower any there being a grand dignitary event coming up? Are there any realish, like official realish ships that might be armed?
00:40:39
Speaker
Flip a Destiny point, please. I would really love to. I'd really love to flip a story point and make it so. I tried six or seven different ways to add that to Fifth Edition in my home table. It just never works. I have never figured out the sweet spot for it.
00:41:12
Speaker
It shows the two hardest to read dice. Those are absolutely inscrutable dice. It's whatever he wants them to be. Those are my favorite dice. Yes, you do see... I rolled a squiggle eight. I don't know what to tell you. Yes, you do see a brilless ship up there that does have some armaments on it. All right.
00:41:34
Speaker
Quick retcon. Beric takes Booyah out, points him at the tower, and asks Booyah if he sees this. A good point.
00:41:46
Speaker
And then I step again, um, sorry, this is a random question. I'm from Breland. Uh, who's here from Breland? Is someone here for the feast or is it just a, I see, I saw a braless ship on the dock. Uh, yeah, it's, um, the skull of bud is it's not born out. Um, he had managed to attend to still, um, but, uh, he's going to wish it was him.
00:42:08
Speaker
You could be real mad he wasn't on that show. Mm hmm. They did send the I mean, she's representing Breeland, but obviously, of course, they sent haters here when actually, yes, of course. Of all the people, in fact, I think I think all the nations just sent their like wards, I guess. Does that mean? I mean, Alex isn't
00:42:39
Speaker
Borenel's son lives in Karnath at military school. Hmm. That could be a useful letter. Yeah. Uh, but let's try something. I mean, I feel that that is the, uh, better alternative to nothing. Barrett begins to walk back to the airship tower. Okay.
00:43:09
Speaker
Actually, I imagine that this being on their barracks sees better here than in most places because everything in under is kind of magically infused. Yeah. And tries to approach the Braille ship. Who is the captain? You see a couple of. I swear to God.
00:43:30
Speaker
I don't know where you're going. Anyway, I approach. You see a couple of guards standing. I mean, it has to. Of course. And you see walking on the deck wearing like heavy cloak, hood down, but long blonde hair, not noticing you. Hood down, okay. I was picturing hood up. Anyway, good. Hood down. But you see Gerald walking around on the deck.
00:43:56
Speaker
I would like to bite. Beric approaches the guards. Can we help you? Beric Rowan, I want to talk to Gerald over there. Captain Hightower. Beric actually goes, hey Gerald, and turns around, gets to get his attention beyond the two guards. Gerald just stops. Doesn't look just. Booyah say, hey Gerald. Hey Booyah.
00:44:27
Speaker
Hey, Dex. I have a favor. Bet you do. It won't endanger you. Bet it will. It won't. It really won't. I mean, unless you want to be a part of it. I mean, we're gonna do something dangerous, but we're not gonna ask you to come. He starts to walk up and tells the guards you can let them through. Stand down. What's up, guys? Well, I'm frankly,
00:44:55
Speaker
Surprised and I suppose relieved. It's you. I was thinking we were going to have to try and talk our way around on our little protectors of the realm paperwork. Uh, listen, there's a dragon abouts. Yeah, we've heard about it and we have reason to hunt it. Okay. And so I wonder if in view of our service to our nation.
00:45:22
Speaker
You'd see fit to let us offload some of your ballista. I mean, assuming we aren't dead, we'll bring them back. We're not looking to requisition them for our own ownership to borrow them for the duration of something.
00:45:53
Speaker
I'm willing to try. I'm pretty charismatic. Yeah. Sorry. I'm just trying to find the, I thought he wasn't allowed to leave. Breland. I don't remember him not being allowed to any one of the dark lanterns. They called everybody back. Has that been lifted now? Did they find what's her name? Maybe we could ask. I guess we could ask.
00:46:24
Speaker
Snacker crap. Wow. Eric's in a bad mood, but he's not this mad at Gerald. Oh, Dick's been mad at Gerald. Okay. Do I need to roll something? There's the weight of my argument strong. No, you can go and roll. Here we go.
00:46:54
Speaker
Plus five, I think. Yeah, 23. Okay. I mean, this is just a requisitioned warship. We haven't actually fired these things in a long time. But yeah, I can fix them. And then a second question. How long are you gonna be in town?
00:47:22
Speaker
I mean, the beast is in a couple of days. We'll just head out the next morning. We put a few people on your ship. Charlie Cassian, what we're doing, not really. Yeah, something I wanted. I suppose he turns down Charlie and Cassian.
00:47:47
Speaker
Uh, yeah, I mean, Charlie Cassian, we get back before you're gone. Otherwise we can collect them in Breland. Yep. Um, I'd list Orana, but I doubt I could make her what's record up to these days. He's on the ship, but I don't imagine he'll imagine he'll want to come. It seems right up his alley. Yeah. I'm taking a dangerous beast, that sort of thing. Yeah. Fair.
00:48:12
Speaker
If he wants to, we'll send him over too. Yeah, but Charlie and Cassie and obviously, yeah, just send him over. Appreciate that. I'll let the guards know. All right. So I got to ask, we were under the impression that you weren't allowed to leave Breland until they caught Dola. What's her name?
00:48:33
Speaker
Um, well, this is special. They wanted extra protection for Hadith on this trip. Um, so a couple of us were allowed to basically escort her up here and then we're going to come straight back. So I mean, the dark lanterns aren't, they can't be what they were. So, um, well, who's protecting, who's protecting her at the party?
00:49:02
Speaker
Krast interest. I thought he'd resigned his service. No, that's not what I said. Really? No, that's why I'm saying no, he she said she's the organizer of a particular organization with whom Krast has an extremely
00:49:26
Speaker
yeah difficult past the story is that she is on the road or the the straight and narrow and crass doesn't entirely buy it so i see he's not really protecting keeping an eye on fair enough well i i mean there's other guards but you all don't know them so by
00:49:51
Speaker
Listen for what it's worth. We would welcome you on this venture. We're not asking you to come because I don't want to push you in danger and take you away from your duties. But if you're just stir crazy and you want to go attack a dragon, uh, again, another dragon. Well, you, we didn't attack the last one. That was sort of the other way. Oh, we have a story about that one, but probably better not right now. Uh,
00:50:19
Speaker
Anyway, you'd be welcome, but I wouldn't ask you to put yourself in harm's way. I appreciate that, but I'm good. Fair enough. Good. Dex, I was going to say, you wouldn't even have to leave the boat.
00:50:39
Speaker
Will arrange for some workers to come and transport the ballistas. Yeah. I mean, they're, um, they're not built into the ship or anything. They're excellent. Um, they're arcane turrets. So I mean, they're a lot lighter than your typical ballista. What does that mean?
00:50:57
Speaker
Who can fire that? Basically it's fire magic for force damage. That's even better. I was about to wonder if we needed to go by ammunition. 2d8 force damage and the target is pushed five feet away. Does that compound if we hit him with three at once?
00:51:21
Speaker
How far just from where I'm standing between our two boats. I mean, there's a bunch of ships here. I mean, it's probably, uh, 50 to 60 foot. Okay. So it's not a, we could unmoor and get right next to them and just throw gang planks up kind of thing. No. Okay. All right. Um, are there on your vessel?
00:51:51
Speaker
Any actual ballistas that might be able to fire harpoons or something like that? Uh, I think there's one, um, just for mostly need of. If there's something that we need to get a hold of. Yeah.
00:52:06
Speaker
All right. Well, if we can borrow that too, anything big enough to say, shoot a person out of just in case we need to do that. I mean, you could put somebody on the front of the arcane turret and that force damage would launch them. Five feet. You want launch Booyah? I didn't say Booyah out loud.
00:52:31
Speaker
Just riding that middle to the ground. All right. Well, good luck. Thanks. You too. Good to see Booyah say to Gerald. Good to see you too, Booyah. Bye. See ya. Gerald gets up and starts to go talk to the guards. Arrange for guys to go and transfer the ordinance to our vessel.
00:53:00
Speaker
I don't know why Gerald has a problem with decks. It's almost like he can read people's vibes and knows that somebody's being an a** to him. Nothing you don't deserve. Well, I would like to inquire in town. The only other thing I'd like to do in town, I think, is I'd like to inquire in town around a magic shop or something regarding fire resistance.
00:53:25
Speaker
either potions thereof or items or like a Krylon spray on paint for the boat. I don't know if we can do anything about that, but. Oh, did Gerald's boat have just any really bad graffiti on it to burned into the wood or is he learned his lesson? Um. So there are.
00:54:04
Speaker
Do you know how to stop your head? Oh, you have it on the? One hour. On the interwebs. Yeah. It gives you resistance to fire damage for one hour. 50 gold pieces per potion. That's very affordable. And then at the magic shop, you also find a cloak that could give you resistance to fire, but it's considered more expensive. How considerably? I don't even know how to pronounce this word. P I W A F W I.
00:54:19
Speaker
There are potions of resistance that you can get.
00:54:35
Speaker
Are you sure none of them are Y's? Is it P-I-W-A-F? P-WAF? W-I. P-WAF-WEE. Yeah, P-WAF-WEE. P-WAF-WEE. I feel like that's a cultural word that I do not want to butcher. I mean, it looks Welsh, except the number of W's in it. They describe it as a cloak in the description. Also, with the exception of that F, it could actually be Greek. It would be a weird word.
00:55:00
Speaker
Would be a strange word in Greek, but yes. Ryo something. OE. So OA, actually. This thing costs 2,500 gold pieces. But it's a cloak of Elenkind. So perception checks made to see you have disadvantage. You have advantage on stealth checks made to hide. And you get fire resistance. It loses its magic if it's exposed to sunlight for one hour without interruption.
00:55:30
Speaker
That seems like too much of an egg. I feel like there should be a significant discount. I mean, you could stuff it in the bag of holding. It doesn't say it has to go just without interruption, so you could just dunk it in and dunk it out. What about any options for flight regarding our good buddy Dex over there in case it's necessary? That's a good idea.
00:55:59
Speaker
Uh, and at the very, well, no, I guess, I guess we've got other fall packs. So we're good on that. Is it Welsh? Was I right? No, it's totally made up. It's drow for cloak. That's funny. I guess Welsh is also totally like all languages are totally made up. Oh, it's a drow cloak. It's a drow cloak of fire resistance. There you go. Neat.
00:56:28
Speaker
So it's made out of spider webs. And it has to charge in the sun? No. It can't be exposed. It loses its magic if it's in the sun. Okay, I heard backwards. That makes more sense then.
00:56:41
Speaker
You find a pennant of the Vind rune that costs 3,000 gold. It's craft from silk, five feet long, and whips about you as if caught by the wind. Oh, it would look good on decks, guys.
00:56:59
Speaker
It would look good on decks. You're the one who need it for. This pennant has the following properties. As an action, you fly up to 20 feet. If you don't land at the end of this fight, you fall unless you have another means of staying aloft. You cannot suffocate. Can I choose when to employ it? Can I fall 50 feet and then? As a reaction, when you fall, you can cause yourself to take no damage from the fall. Once you use this property, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest. You can cast Levitate as a bonus action.
00:57:28
Speaker
Once you just use this property, shorter long rest. And gift of the wind, you can transfer the pennant's magic to a non-magical item, suit of armor, pair of boots, or cloak by tracing the vin room there with your finger. The transfer takes eight hours of work that requires... at the end of the pennant is destroyed. So you can buy this and then make like your ribbon weave take on these properties. Or something like my... that won't... I can't drop... like my awesome armor.
00:57:54
Speaker
All right. Or you could just have this littering silk ribbon. I don't hate it all the time. If you guys want to spend a bunch of money on that, that's fine. But there's one thing that I think the Hunter's Guild might have that you would need. So Barrick would like to return to the Hunter's Guild. If either of you are buying that, go for it. I mean, I feel like we should each get a potion. I feel like we should get a potion for us and everyone on the vessel. Sorry. Yeah, that's what I meant by each each each person that is going to be there. So that's three, one for Chase, one for Orianna, one for Rickard.
00:58:22
Speaker
We just tell us there's eight people. So that would be 400. That's right. So, so six. So that'd be 300. I think if we can afford it, we should get two for each 1200. Just in case we have to do this in two stages. That's not 1200 120. No, six of us at 50 each is 300. So 600, 600. Sorry. I did the math wrong.
00:58:46
Speaker
I can't justify asking Booyah for 3000 gold pieces unless we're going to stick around and take out another bounty or two after we finish this. So I think the potions is probably what we need. Booyah be back. Go ship.
00:58:58
Speaker
Okay. Well, we got to go ship count. If you have like a lot, no, he didn't have that much. We didn't make that much. I mean, he made 10,000. I'm going to say just basic. You're probably down to around six and some change at this point. I was thinking in my head. I can't ask for half of that.
00:59:17
Speaker
While Booyago ship, Barrett go Hunter, Hunter guild. Okay. Dex go remind Jase fly low. Barrett goes back to the hunter concierge. This seems like somewhat specialized item that you might specialize in. If we needed an enormous net.
00:59:41
Speaker
made ideally out of something other than, out of something non-flammable. Or if you know someone who could provide us with one. Well, that's a, makes sense. I'm sure, when are you all planning on heading out for the bounty?
01:00:11
Speaker
Soon as we're able, but we have a relationship with some members of the crafters guild here in Fairhaven that we could probably commission one that would be done by the morning. That would be just fine. So net to capture huge creature fire resistant.
01:00:30
Speaker
Uh, probably the incantations and everything where any, uh, and on a short time schedule, it's not possible to just be made out of a wire of some kind instead of rope. That's been enchanted. I mean, it was mundanely, it seems. Metal melts at a certain temperature. That's true. Anyway, go on. You were about to give me a first. Um, I was going to suggest, uh, probably what they're going to ask for is two to 50. We can manage that. Yes. All right.
01:00:59
Speaker
Uh, all right. And then Eric returns to the vessel. You see, uh, workers for the funds to go. Um, you see workers, uh, mounting the various weaponry that, uh, Gerald has lent out to you. Um, Orianna and Rickard are up on deck and, uh, I have a use now. Wait a minute. I'm trying to recall.
01:01:30
Speaker
We did or did not cut the mast down. He did. And you use the stump to make the picnic table that's on the deck that cannot be moved. Like that was not my decision. It wasn't your decision, but it's reality. Yeah, dude. All right. There are other people on the boat, Barrick, and we wanted a picnic table. You never use it. I haven't played Parcheesi weeks before we got that table. All right. So what?
01:01:59
Speaker
What I would like to arrange before we go. I've arranged for a large net. A good call. That will not be flammable. Better call. What I'd like to then arrange for is some sort of frame that we might lower as a trawler might hold the net open. OK.
01:02:29
Speaker
You want to scoop up the dragon. I don't want to scoop up the dragon, but I want to entangle the dragon. And to do that, the net will need to be held open. Right. We're going to trust the excellence of our pilot. Make it so. I mean, he's a great pilot. That's when we've had on this ship. Uh. Maybe Eric's not going to argue with him in front of the man in question.
01:02:59
Speaker
I mean, if you take it holistically, like as a general person who's also a pilot, but anyway, listen, yeah, we could do that. Now could that, could that not have been a stipulation you put in the construction of the net is, uh, this is going to have to be attached to the ship. Okay. But the net spread between, I mean, really we're just talking about two beams sticking, projecting from the ship with the net spread between them.
01:03:24
Speaker
how long a beam we need, you think? The creature was described as about 15 feet on a side, so a little more than that. So we need a couple of, let's say, 18 foot long pieces of wood? Ish, yes. All right. They don't need to stay on. In fact, better, they're not firmly attached to the vessel so that, you know, when the creature hits the net, let's go. Right, right, right, right.
01:03:48
Speaker
Um, I guess we would still have the mast around, right? It's lightweight. It was not like it would have, if not, it would be stored. I feel like we could obtain lumber. Yeah. Lumber is not okay. In that case. And we, we don't want.
01:04:04
Speaker
Oh, what's it called? Featherwood. Sorewood. We don't want Sorewood for this or we do. I don't know that it, uh, like an unnecessary expense if we're just, yeah. Right. Rigging up a net, doing rigging stuff. So 18 foot. Listen, everybody get off of my business. It's my rigging. Uh, okay. So I will volunteer to. Of course you will.
01:04:26
Speaker
Go get some. Oh, I thought you went to rig the net to get. No, to go get some lumber. I mean, if we left that thing to eventually detach, we don't want him because his knots do not come undone. Hell, no, they don't. Thank you. And he's walking through. So everybody on board has fire resistance potions to already drink mine.
01:04:51
Speaker
It lasts an hour, right? Set Jace on fire. Yeah, I mean, maybe we'll get your use out of it. We're at least going to get some amusement out of it. Jace is just like, whoa! Now Jace is just naked on the deck. So everybody's got two of those. We have armed the ship through fire at the dragon. We need a harpoon and cable. Mm-hmm.
01:05:17
Speaker
which I guess that came with the harpoon. We got the net. We're going to have the net rigged up. That's what we got so far. Get the rigging done. And then once you get the net, we can attach it on the way to the, um,
01:05:38
Speaker
Lumberyard. Lumberyard. Actually, you know what? I'd retcon just a little bit before we go. I'm going to ask the attend the assembled on the, on the deck. I'm just going to say, Hey, how much y'all know about red dragons? Like how much you know about getting into a scrape with one fire? We're at fire. But what about, I mean, I know that's what I know what we need to be worried about. Basically. That's also impervious to it. Right. Right. That one.
01:06:06
Speaker
Do we, anything else we know about? They're dangerous. They're dangerous, okay. No, I mean, really, they're, they're aggressive. They are, Rickard speaks to us. I was going to say, yeah. During my time in Zendrick, I studied dragons a bit. They are extremely territorial.
01:06:29
Speaker
If they feel threatened near their lair, they are going to fight till the death to protect it. And we disguise the ship as a red dragon. As a cow. Wait, no, I like yours better. Or maybe a very large kite. So instead of 18 foot beams to hold the net open, now they are wings. Yes. We just paint the red, we don't decorate them. Look, dragons look like, right? They got parts that stick out there and they got the big part in the middle. It's like a stick figure dragon.
01:06:57
Speaker
Go ahead, record. Thank you. Typically, if the dragon is capable of spell casting, which many of them are, they will have some level of alarm set up on their hoarder and their lair to where if somebody does enter it, no matter where they are, they will know and more than likely come running. Can they like... BAMF?
01:07:23
Speaker
Some can teleport, some can nod. Just don't know. Sure, just like any person. The age of the dragon plays a large role. Oh yeah, because we saw Orgev bamfed, didn't we? But, I mean, a red dragon's lair is also not the best place you want to be. I'll tell you where I want to be. There was this bath house in
01:07:45
Speaker
But if you were to ask, I know that Eldian Reach is on their areas where we're looking. Typically within six miles of a red dragon's lair, there are small earthquakes that occur pretty frequently. Water sources are typically warm and tainted, smell of sulfur.
01:08:06
Speaker
and like rocky fissures will spring up and a lot of them have portals to the plane of fire so very dangerous but you might deal with creatures from there near a red dragon's lair so there's a lot of clues a lot of that might be noticeable from the air in a lush
01:08:31
Speaker
or if you would go to nearby towns where we have kind of a circumference of possibility, they should be able to point you in the direction. Because what I'm thinking is I'd like to go on the way to the laundry yard. Don't worry, I'm gonna take care of my chore. I'm gonna get the wood. I'd also like to
01:08:50
Speaker
hit maybe a library, specifically to learn if there's any, you know, tales of people who fought dragons in the past. Perhaps they noticed that a certain weapon, aside from a fire spell, didn't or did hurt more or less. Some of, even if it's apocryphal, I'd like to be armed with that sort of information. And then I suppose maybe if there's some sort of county register of earth, regular earthquakes, like is there a place people don't build because the ground shake too much? I mean, I will tell you, you know, ground shake, no build.
01:09:19
Speaker
I have thought- Much ground shake. Where ground shake? No build. Where? Ground shake, no build, but where? Water hot ground shake. I'm gonna speak to you now. Where no build? Where no build? I was part of an exhibition to take down a turnaround.
01:09:48
Speaker
You okay, Barrick? Barrick can just arm on the railing of the ship. You know what we should say? Given the context of the conversation, that sort of thing should be called a funny bone.
01:10:06
Speaker
During my experience fighting a young wren dragon, the only thing that did not have any effect on it was fire. Everything else seemed to be effective. Nothing hit it particularly hard. We tried cold naturally, thinking that might do something, but it did not.
01:10:25
Speaker
So from a personality standpoint, red dragons are incredibly arrogant. If you've, I mean, you're looking to have a conversation with this thing, expect it to be on its soapbox about a mile high. We're extremely used to it. I don't know how we can possibly handle something like that. That'll be devastating. That sort of new confrontation. We were supposed to paint insults regarding the red dragon on the bottom of the ship.
01:10:50
Speaker
Possibly. They do like to take prisoners and enslave them. So if you go to the lair, expect to maybe find people that are beholden. Okay, well, now we're definitely going to the lair regardless. We were going to the lair. I just don't want to fight the dragon there. There also was a weird accent that might just stick on for some reason. There what? Obsessive collectors. Black dragons and silver dragons simply typically hoard things of import.
01:11:18
Speaker
Uh, but red dragons are all about the money, the monetary value. Um, so gold, gold, gold. Um, so you're saying I could make his $3,000 back for him. Oh, certainly. 3,000 what now? Is that a Sarlonon term? Nope. But they also, uh, fastidious as to where they would notice if a single gold piece went missing. Well, not by the time we get there. Ideally we'll have killed it by then.
01:11:48
Speaker
They won't be noticing much. So. I'm just saying. You want to come along? I'd love to. You're welcome to. Awesome. What are you doing? Do you know how to fire up this time? Because I don't think any of us do. That's the thing. I was going to ask, but we just kept going on. Like, as they're walking off, I want to be, as Dex says, how do you do this? But we just moved on. There were other things Dex wanted to talk about.
01:12:14
Speaker
It's a ranged attack so it'd be dex based. Oh I think it's based on dex. Obviously you can just mount it on dex, let him run around. I mean if you're not too concerned about the lair and fighting it in its lair, which can be nasty but I wouldn't say enough to turn the tide of a fight,
01:12:41
Speaker
If you waited until the night of the ball and then went to the lair and forced it to leave, you would have the advantage, so to speak. So we, I think we go set alarm off, make him come to us. But you would be in his home with all the advantages granted to him there. Maybe we intercept. That's true. I mean, here's the thing. Dragon
01:13:03
Speaker
I almost did it again because like dragons would likely fly in a straight line if their stuff was threatened, right? I mean, they would get there as quickly as possible. Oh, we, we had their set before dragon get there. I don't hate that idea. Well, in any case identifying where the layer is might, it is not a bad idea if we have time to do it. So I'll go ask the, um, very good questions I was saying earlier and buy the lumber. I'm going to buy the lumber. I'll go talk to Charlie and Cassie.
01:13:33
Speaker
All right. Yeah. Welcome to join one of us or buy wood too. We have, I would do fair goes fine. Charlie. Uh, Charlie. Um, I don't know if you've heard the part where we're going to go attack a red dragon. Yes. And I'm, I'm sorry. No, I tried. Let me know. Hear me first.
01:13:58
Speaker
We would like you and Cassian to get off of the boat while we do this. Uh, as it happens, Gerald is here, captaining a different vessel and he's agreed that you guys can wait on his vessel. And if he departs before we do, we'll collect you in Breland. Sounds like a fair deal. Right. And obviously we don't want to put Cassian in any danger and I don't really want to put you into any danger. I have no idea if you can handle yourself in a fight, but
01:14:26
Speaker
doesn't seem necessary to test with this manner of situation. Fair enough. No, I will collect Cassian and head to which ship is Gerald's. I noticed the name of the ship, which was, amusingly, he's renamed the Roving Badger after his previous lost ship.
01:14:50
Speaker
If you don't want to stay on a boat with Gerald, I understand we'll pay for you to have her. Dex isn't there. Joe's a perfectly pleasant person. And Barrett goes and finds Orianna. She's in the cargo hold. This is my necessary, but largely irrelevant attempt to convince you not to come with us on this vessel when we fly towards a red dragon, uh, and ask you to get off and please watch over and protect from danger. Passion and Charlie on the roving badger.
01:15:22
Speaker
You see how I presented it there as, right. It loses the magic when you explain it. It didn't have a lot to begin with. That's a, that's a good pitch. Uh, lacked a bit of, uh, your typical earnestness. It's a no for me, Doug. And also, uh, I feel like if anything dangerous were to come after the roving Badger, the storm God that, uh, presides over it could more than protect them.
01:15:49
Speaker
Very likely, but what if something happens to him? Then whatever killed him, probably gonna take care of me in short order. So by that logic, I should not be on the roving badger. And I should be with you, because something that kills you, I might stand a fighting chance against. You hear Barracks say from the ground, these are unassailable points.
01:16:18
Speaker
Unfortunately, Eric has won this one. I see. Well. All right, then. I. Have you considered? I know I'm normally dour and rooting. You're going to kill a dragon, right? Have you considered the possibility?
01:16:46
Speaker
which has been going through my mind that this dragon is not actually guilty of anything and that we've been sent to assassinate someone inconvenient by two extremely powerful creatures since every other creature of god-like power that I've spoken to in the last year, we agree this is about a year, in the last year has either accidentally or deliberately misled me
01:17:15
Speaker
Well, but I think if the claim is true that he is parading around as a member of the royal family and potentially trying to overthrow a sovereign government and rule it as its own, I mean, that's even, even if their motivations are dubious, that seems like something we would normally stop. We, we, I mean, we were adjacent to the stoppage of it once already. That was my country.
01:17:47
Speaker
fair but the monarch in question being overthrowned has megaluminiacal tendencies more so than a dragon well I've met a few dragons and none of them have been consistent in their tendencies so anyway
01:18:13
Speaker
I'm saying I have no idea if what we're being sent to do is legitimate. I don't feel like I have a choice to do it. And so I'm going to do it. And if I do evil, then it's on me. But it's something to consider. Your concern has been noted. Of course. Eric goes and sits on the front of the ship. How does Charlie dress?
01:18:43
Speaker
Well appointed, not like fastidious. Before he leaves the boat, just because he wants to do it, Dex is going to change himself to where he would fit Charlie's clothes. He's leaving Lelyanna behind. So normal hair. There's a pile of hair on the floor now.
01:19:03
Speaker
Lean your head over that over off the ship before you land on somebody. I'll just clean it up like scatter in the wind. So it lands on a bunch of hair. It just falls off. It just falls off to the link that it was before you took care of it. We didn't determine that. Eric determined. Eric determined that.
01:19:23
Speaker
And so, you know, dresses, ask Charlie if he can wear some clothes before he goes with the trouble. Uh, you know, it gets kind of fastidious looking basically before he goes someplace of like a hall of records to ask about things like seismic activity. Uh, he figures he'd better look a little differently than some weirdo. Where's the ground shake? It's the tensile strength of elf hair. I feel like we could be making something out of this. It's not untrue.
01:19:50
Speaker
I've never heard that utilized, that elves have super strong. Legolas's bow that he obtains in Lorian is strung with elf hair. Interesting. And you can absolutely make a yarn out of that. I mean, absolutely could make a yarn out of that. We can discuss that. Let's figure this cottage industry out. Let's put... How do we put Cassian to work?
01:20:16
Speaker
literal hair, literal hair shirts. Just spinning. I make a variety of colors. Anyway. And after I do that, I'm going to be, I was coming with me and we're, and we're going to buy lumber and we're going to check in on if we can pinpoint closer pinpoint where the layer likely is. So first, cause it's easy swing at a lumber yard, go or, or, or what have you general store.
01:20:44
Speaker
Lumberyard, I have to assume. Yeah. Lumberyard. So there are two different options in terms of you walk in and there's a very like heavy leather, clearly a woodworker, like coconut trees, about six foot eight half-orc woman standing behind the counter says, well, for a job that you're looking to do, you're either going to need
01:21:19
Speaker
I'm jumping through the door.

Materials and Mistaken Identity

01:21:23
Speaker
Hello. How are you? Let's make this episode longer. All right. Well, I need a two 18 foot long pieces of a four by four beam six by six beam.
01:21:36
Speaker
So for the job that you're describing that you're going to need to do, um, probably ideally it's going to be, uh, Eldine Redwood. Uh, that's going to be longest sturdiest. Um, does come at a pretty hefty price though. Um, for two 18 foot long pieces, that's going to be about 30 gold pieces each with the tariffs and everything with the trade. Um, or you can get on Darien, uh, wood at five gold pieces, but it's not going to have the same structural integrity.
01:22:03
Speaker
Is the price different if I asked for 18 foot tall pieces? Cause I can make that work. No. All right. So I'd ask, uh, so 18 foot long. What was it for the, for the redwood again? 30 gold pieces each. Yeah. Uh, yes. Question. Quality. Delivery and option. Uh, yeah, sure. Yeah. I think this is my liver price. What are you? You don't just say what are you to somebody?
01:22:31
Speaker
What a weird place this is. Alright, he's not a warforged.
01:22:43
Speaker
You're going to be a warforged now. We are warforged. I was forged. Why would they make a warforged child? Why are you so small? Because sneaky booyah, sneaky. You are not there to get ready out of this. That's where he was. OK, I lean in and plus Booyah's power comes small package. I lean in hopefully out of Booyah's ear shot, but I don't really care. And I lean into this lumber worker and I say,
01:23:12
Speaker
I should have a different voice because I look different and I want to be seen. Give us your Butler voice. My friend here, he's a halfling who's stuck in this armor and he's started to go a little mad. He thinks he's a war force because people keep asking him. So if you could just not bring it up again, that'd be wonderful. So when would you like the wood delivered? As soon as possible, thank you.
01:23:40
Speaker
Alright. And I point, I go, one of those. What's the name of your ship? The Borrowed Time. Alright. And Booyah Warforged have money. And Booyah Warforged, he have money, he pay now. Question, ground shake where?
01:24:05
Speaker
That transaction being complete, Booyah, did you have anything? Because you seem pretty interested in going and buying wood. No, Booyah, I just want to make sure we get wood. We know by this what lumber thing is, but just make sure we get wood. Taking note of the sorts of things that are around us. Maybe if I need to ask people, where would one go to find something out?
01:24:32
Speaker
Seismic activity reports of those things that Rickard said happen in the perimeter of a. There's a seismologist down the street. I would say that there's like a royal census office that just is like record keeping and stuff like that that probably stuff like that being reported. Would they would have that on file. OK.
01:24:59
Speaker
Also the place where you go to get your traveling papers updated. There's typically a very long line. So be aware, but we didn't all of records. We didn't ask anybody in the DMV mixed into one. Okay. I'd like to, I'd like to go there. Uh,
01:25:17
Speaker
Is there a chance the Black Dog's on the way there? No. Different app. Different part of the city. Okay, I just want to duck my head and ask how long people have been seeing this dragon. What about the 100- Hall of Records might have that information. Okay, yeah, we're gonna go to the Hall of Records.

Seismic Activity and Dragon Lair

01:25:30
Speaker
All right. Hello, welcome to the Hall of Records. How can I help you? Yes, thank you. I would like to read some of your- When you start talking in this voice, you go like full Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, like just-
01:25:45
Speaker
it's great it's my it's my fastidious old man voice not old man you guys heard the old man voice he's five thousand years old um i was wondering if i could read some uh history i heard there's been dragon sightings yes yes there has been uh could you could you tell me when those began
01:26:09
Speaker
Oh, we've been getting reports from the... I apologize, the specific red dragon sightings. Oh, I assume there's only been one dragon sighting recently. Sure. The farmers began reporting sightings of the red dragon approximately... The first sighting was eight months ago, but then there were no more sightings for two months and six months and onward has been more frequent. So...
01:26:35
Speaker
Oh, wonderful. I was also wondering if you have any records of... Groundshaking. Earthquake-ing. Um... Earthquakes? Heartbreaking, love-taking. Is anyone messing around with such things? In the last year. Particularly localized.
01:27:00
Speaker
And she flips around and pulls out a wand and kind of taps it on this filing cabinet and then pulls a drawer out that has lots of records and she pulls one out.
01:27:12
Speaker
slams it on begins flipping through it and takes probably seven to 10 minutes of her like, well, I'm seeing here that the the people of author ent are reporting some seismic activity very faint. The earthquakes are clearly clearly not nearby. But
01:27:36
Speaker
That's what I have for you. Typically out to the west, they get stronger, but they are right up on the border of the Eldean reaches and our records stop there. That's what was going to be my next question. All right. Thank you very much. Please, do you have any questions? Oh my, what are you? You can't just ask someone what they are. Why would they make such a time?
01:28:04
Speaker
We need to go this old, old what place called? Othirond. Othirond. We need to go find Othirond place. Remind me anything else Rickard said that I've forgotten because I didn't write it down. I know there was the water and there was the foliage and there was the earthquakes. And I assume if they don't have much record of earthquakes, they're probably not going to have much. The chasms opening up, the rocky fissures.
01:28:30
Speaker
Oh, sure, which would be relevant to the earthquakes. But again, if they're not feeling earthquakes, it's in the Eldian reaches is what I'm...
01:28:37
Speaker
is what Dex is coming to. So armed with that knowledge and 64 less pieces of gold, was that it? 60 less pieces of gold? Dex is going to say... Now you mentioned going to Othron. Now Othron is a military installation, so if you're trying to get in there you might need some kind of royal permission, edict, traveling papers, granting you access to such a place if you're looking to go to Othron to investigate this activity.
01:29:05
Speaker
We are with something of a group of emissaries from Breedland. I don't know if that would pass muster here, so perhaps we'll find another way to learn more about it. Very well. Okay, bye! As they leave, Dex turns to Booyah.
01:29:32
Speaker
Well, wasn't, uh, quite as much as I was hoping for something better than nothing. I mean, we have this author on place. We are probably going to have to end up in the Eldine reaches for this. And maybe yeah, boy, I say most between you and me being able to look different and very being able to look different. We might be able to ingratiate ourselves learn a little bit once we're there. I don't know for sure, but we don't, we're running short on time.
01:30:03
Speaker
Yeah. Dex have rigging do. I mean, in a sense, Dex always has rigging to do, but I don't think they're actually gonna let me touch it this time. They will. Oh yeah. Rig it. All right. Fine. Well, let's go back to the boat. What do you say? Yeah. We go back.
01:30:25
Speaker
Alright, so you all get back to the boat and share the information with the plane.
01:30:46
Speaker
down and, and I will admit perhaps my trip to the hall of records was useless, but I mean, I'm all right with that. We identify the layer. We'll consider whether or not to try to trip any alarms and then see if we can't intercept it. Okay. They're at the lumber here already.
01:31:03
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, the time you spent in the hall record. Yeah. And Jason's working on rigging it up. So the next morning when the net is delivered, that gets all attached and ready to go. And you all head out to the Northwest.
01:31:20
Speaker
After flying for a couple of hours at a fairly high altitude, I'm assuming you all are just intently standing up on the deck looking about. So it is not difficult for you all to see once you start getting
01:31:40
Speaker
Once you cross over the border into the Eldean reaches, you begin seeing some rocky outcroppings that have crumbled and fallen to the ground, various evidence of earthquakes, trees being uprooted. Then you begin to see some fissures in the ground that don't seem normal for the Eldean reaches.
01:32:02
Speaker
You do see a town on the horizon that based on the map that you were shown at the the hunters guild is probably Meryl's ward or was Meryl's ward.
01:32:20
Speaker
It looks like a lot of the buildings have been burnt out. There's. And you see more and more rocky fissures. And yeah, it doesn't look like the town has been leveled or anything, but like clearly. A dragon has some presence here and based on the earthquakes and the.

Dragon Lair Exploration

01:32:43
Speaker
the level of destruction, you're getting the sense that Meryl's Ward may be the lair. The lair may be somewhere in the town. Aha. Urban dragon. Well, let's descend and...
01:33:04
Speaker
search around this in in the scale search around a little bit drop down in the skiff covered in brush helps ragged into one of the abandoned houses something where it's not a really visible we go uh what do you want us to do while you're down that's what that's what i know it's jumping in the car yeah um stay in the area for the moment if
01:33:37
Speaker
Trouble starts on the ground. Just get away. And we'll call when it's done. If we can take this thing on the wing, I think we have some advantage of not dealing with it in its layer. But that may not end up being an option if it can teleport or if it's already there or something like that.
01:33:59
Speaker
So if trouble starts on our end, you just get clear so that you're not a target. All right. Yeah, I can do that. And if you catch sight, I mean, stand off a ways. And if you catch sight of it, give us a call. I can do that. And Orianna and Rickard are hopping into this GIF with you all.
01:34:26
Speaker
Shouldn't some of us stay on the boat to keep, to help protect the ship? Someone who can fire a ballista should be up there as his last resort of protection. Good idea. Okay. And Rickard. Who Rickard gets back off the skiff. Wouldn't it be good if he had help? You know it's not happening. In defending the vessel.
01:34:58
Speaker
Well, that's happening. Some sort of all powerful deity is going to need to give me stats for that spear that you're carrying around, uh, since it will apparently become relevant in a way that I did not anticipate. All right. Um, going down.
01:35:38
Speaker
the ruins of Meryl's war.
01:35:53
Speaker
You can always tell where an animal's nested. Sure. If we need to, we can land in the nearby town of mervel's ward and walk here. Wait, I thought this was Meryl's ward. Meryl's ward. Meryl's ward's two letters over. He's mocking me. It's Meryl's ward, then Meryl's ward, then Merksel's ward.
01:36:18
Speaker
Yeah, so you all, from up on high, when you're beginning your descent, you see that Meryl's Ward is kind of built on a bit of a bluff, and that there is, as you're flying down, a cave that seems to go below the town. So maybe... Does smoke issue from said cave? You definitely get a strong, pungent whiff of sulfur. How big is the mouth of the cave?
01:36:46
Speaker
Um, you would say about a little bigger than huge, 20 feet wide. We don't know anybody with stone shape. This is true. Just lock that thing up. Uh, okay. Um, if we can just send close to the mouth of the cave, my magical vision, do I spot any enchantments around the cave? I was there like magic of plenty alarm spells and things like that.
01:37:14
Speaker
Uh, based on schools of magic and stuff. Yeah, you can, yeah. I can kind of check if it will be of assistance, but, uh, okay. Well, you tell us. Yeah. Yes.
01:37:26
Speaker
And so that would appear to be an entrance to the lair. The question I would have is what sort of things set that off? Like if a random bird flew into the mouth of that cave, I doubt it. Or if I were to say, throw an apple. Well, certainly not that. I mean, it's usually an alarm spell is not going to be set off by anonymous objects. The guy that knows about this stuff might be able to inform you.
01:37:51
Speaker
Eric to ship, please put Rickard on the line. Yes. What can you tell me about the kind of alarm spell that a dragon might use? I would have brought you along, but someone needed to stay and protect the ship and the other person available seemed unwilling.
01:38:18
Speaker
Generally speaking, the alarm spell is on the horde itself, not entry. But if you were to kick over an expensive vase or step on some gold, that would
01:38:31
Speaker
I seem to be spotting alarm spells at the, am I, am I confused? I thought I was spotting alarm spells at the entry to the, I thought they were on the mouth. There was just magic. Oh, I see. I was sensing the aura. Yes. Yes. Okay. And looking further in, you can see alarm spells, but that's why I was trying to get out. I see. So beyond the treasure itself, that's what we need to go. We have to go in. Yeah. I don't have anything.
01:38:59
Speaker
I mean, I could try to crossbow something. What's the range on your crossbow? Like 120, right? So that if he, let's suppose he can bamf, he might bamf into the cave that we aren't in. Or if he can't, we see him coming.

Confrontation Plan

01:39:23
Speaker
Yeah.
01:39:28
Speaker
question is, I mean, we can try it at the cost of crossbow bolt. That's it. I think it doesn't cost us anything to attempt that. Well, right. But we need to make sure we know what comes in, what we want, what we, what we'd like to do next after we attempt it, just in case I say he should bolt. What if, if we want to shoot from plane plane, we want to shoot from boat, like all you be on boat.
01:39:56
Speaker
Well, I think that we ought to stay together. And I mean, if our goal is to take it in the air, which I think is better. It's still, yeah. Um, I mean, if nothing else being as near as we are to its lair, if we hit retreats, it'll retreat to its lair. It's not going to retreat, right? We're too close to the lair. It'd have to leave its lair unguarded. Dragons supposed to have big ego.
01:40:21
Speaker
Right. So I would say, if you can hit it from where we are, you can hit something from where we are and set off the alarm spell. Then we should move back towards the ship and try and get back on the ship and try and take him in flight when he comes to check things out. Right. I guess my question is, do we bring the ship closer? He fires and then we get in the skiff and go straight to the ship.
01:40:46
Speaker
Oh, I see. And now we hope if he does fly here, we intercept him. If he bamphs here. We're in a position to. And pokes his head out. That's reasonable. We're right there to whack a mole at one time. Booyah still think you all go beyond ship. Booyah takes gift after shoot. That way, if he, what do you say, bamph? Yeah. Then you already ready to shoot. It's Sarlonin for teleport.
01:41:15
Speaker
You ready to shoot and then Booyas gift to boat and I don't want to leave you on the ground by yourself. If one of us is going to do it, three of us are going to do it. I think we should stay with you. We appreciate much love shown. All right. So we,
01:41:42
Speaker
Hit up the ship. All right. OK, Booyah, come on, playing their justice. So we've pulled the ship. We brought the ship back to be over us, just over us. So that after he fires, we're all getting a skiff and going up immediately. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, we're in the skiff. Right. Once he hits the vase, we're pushing off. Yeah.
01:42:04
Speaker
I mean, I'm assuming that if I just hit anything in there, it's not like I'm going to have to take a aim. And so Booyah fires a crossbow bolt into the horde of the dragon. All right. So yeah, you fire and you said you all, as soon as he fires are taken off, we're already at the highest we can be to get the angled rates to get in there. Yeah. Um, so, um,

Cliffhanger and Credits

01:42:33
Speaker
I'm going to do something a little different. Cut to. Oh, cut scene.
01:42:40
