Travis White: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Pack South podcast, and we are here at the end of September now. We have a full month of college football under our belt. Starting to really see the divide between teams.

Travis White: Um... But some interesting news. just out of the state of Louisiana today, Pat. Sounds like we have some teams possibly going. down after you know we have all these teams fighting to get up the fbs and like just seems like the growth of Division 1 FBS is...

Travis White: almost kind of leading to like... What the other sports are is just like all one big FBS the ways kind of go

Pat Q: ah

Travis White: with the money Some teams don't think so, sharing a bit of a deficit. These teams may not be aware of that. Other. programs are also operating at a deficit pat you want to talk to me about these teams and what's going on

Pat Q: Yeah, so ah We got a report today out of the great state of Louisiana that... A. Board of Regents. um We'll see. advisor director made a statement that Essentially.

Pat Q: the Louisiana Lafayette. Louisiana Tech. and ulm programs should all switch in his words he said one double a um We don't like that kind of jargon here on this podcast. We yeah we respect the FCS. But he he said essentially those three programs, since they were operating at a deficit.

Pat Q: should move down. to the FCS. Starting, I believe he proposed. Um, the near future i don't think he was going out and saying next football season Um,

Pat Q: I think for one of those programs, that's not a terrible idea. ah Louisiana Monroe has... Definitely not had the greatest run of success since coming up to the FBS level. Yes, they did beat Alabama.

Pat Q: uh in Nick Saban's first year. And I think they beat Arkansas. um somewhere. in that general time frame as well. ah But that's about it.

Pat Q: I never made a bowl game. one bowl eligible season, but because of old Sunbelt rules and tie -ins.

Travis White: yeah

Pat Q: They didn't get to go to a bowl. But I feel like... Both the Cajuns and... The Bulldogs, at least. have enough fan support. And...

Pat Q: We'll say like on -field production um that I've... I think the idea for them to move down to the FCS level is pretty silly. um I don't know. What do you think about it, TJ?

Travis White: Yeah, I mean like if I don't think you can pair these three teams together. I definitely understand what's going on there. um but i mean UL Monroe could pull an Idaho.

Travis White: could see it, but now also Idaho has talks of coming right back up.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: So it's... You're going to make less money down at FCS. Yes, you're operating at a budget and that stinks right now, but how are you going to restructure yourself in the future? coming back up potentially because that would ultimately be the goal.

Pat Q: hi

Travis White: um Louisiana, i mean I feel like you can always chalk them down for nine wins a year. so i mean They're a very good group of six. ah team. Very good program and very well established. Louisiana Tech, not as much recent success.

Travis White: But still a very good team. in conference usa um Bye. They're not as good as Louisiana Nice.

Pat Q: Yeah. No, that's fair.

Travis White: but The Rustin Bowl is not what it used to be. Let's just be honest. I want to call it what it is. um Nothing will ever... beat the pinnacle of Skip Holt saying, I don't want to play a bowl game with 10 wins. um so There's that. Bulldogs have that kind of history. but Um.

Travis White: Nonetheless, like they... have on -field success Louisiana out of the three the most right now and I just I think it's silly to group all three of them I think They should. all stay up and just probably restructure financially.

Travis White: I think a lot of schools. have to really understand what their capabilities are. when it comes to nil because i think that everyone's just chasing a dollar and chasing like that high high that then they're not keeping in the mind.

Travis White: There should be a budget here whether or not like

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: like Louisiana Tech is not going to have the same budget as Ohio State, and they know that.

Pat Q: right

Travis White: but they also shouldn't try to extend themselves to get closer to Ohio State.

Pat Q: Mm -hmm. Mm hmm.

Travis White: And I think that's what a lot of these smaller programs are doing because even then. These Ohio States, these LSUs, these Washingtons. They are all operating. on tens of millions of dollars.

Travis White: in deficit a year.

Pat Q: huh

Travis White: So... They're also not doing great. They're just having to figure it out. with boosters and you know, what have you. So. I think this is kind of silly especially as a group.

Travis White: I'm just going to kind of leave it at that. I hope this is not something that

Pat Q: Yeah. Yeah.

Travis White: comes to fruition um But you know. It's not out of my hands.

Pat Q: Yeah, I was going to say, I don't think it'll actually come. To be. um especially for ULL or LaTeX. um But really... The big loser. Yes.

Pat Q: Big if. This were to happen would be the Sunbelt, I think, because then three of your five of your what, six or five Sunbelt West teams are now playing FCS football. um Kiss.

Travis White: Oh. Yes, they did.

Pat Q: Yeah, they they are Sunbelt now.

Travis White: They did move.

Pat Q: Um.

Travis White: I forgot they were scheduled for 22 games. They backed out, cowards.

Pat Q: Mm hmm.

Pat Q: ah So yeah, I think the Sunbelt would be the big loser there, especially when you've probably got a program in James Madison also looking to make a move, but probably in the upward direction rather than the downward direction there. um So... Yeah, I think Sunbelt programs could be in some real trouble financially ah if that were to happen. But...

Pat Q: Let's hope for the sake of football. and You know, we support small. programs on this podcast for the sake of smaller schools, for the sake of smaller programs. um that college sports and college athletics as.

Pat Q: We used to know it, let's say. um can kind of restore itself a little bit um obviously And I'll... is out of the bag that's not coming back But... um at least have some more regulation. I think the idea of revenue sharing, the idea of caps will help.

Pat Q: but At the end of the day, it is tough for some of these smaller schools, especially when you've got a massive in -state. University. Um, Who shares? finances from the state with you.

Pat Q: And they are. just shelling out money like crazy. to get Lane Kiffin and to get players who. aren't even able to suit up for the team this year, things like that.

Travis White: Indeed. Indeed there. So hopefully. Everyone comes to their senses, figures something out. And we continue forward from there. uh we'll shift gears with a little bit of a fun announcement obviously over the last show we mentioned something may be happening and pat it sounds like thing did happen Um,

Travis White: We're on Twitter. So you can now follow us over there at the PacSouthPod, or excuse me, at PacSouthPodcast. we will be over there and we're doing a little bit of a special take here uh so pat And he takes... that he has he is going to be on the twitter machine and then My takes are going to be over on the pack south. threads and obviously go follow that if you're not following that as well.

Travis White: um But we're going to have a little bit of a split. so some of the takes will be solely his some of the tapes be solely mine some will be jointly posted on both so if you see us just randomly tweeting about Akron football on Tuesday.

Travis White: That is someone's exact take on that. so A little bit of a fun take. We'll see how it takes us. uh where the ride goes but should be fun and uh looking forward to now being on the twitter machine Now Pat.

Travis White: We floated this last week off air. is here on air. And I don't think this couldn't have been a better start. Because let me tell you. this past week. Really, past day.

Travis White: I've had some great practices Have a great day.

Pat Q: Fantastic. Fantastic.

Travis White: Fantastic practices. And this is why it's amazing. to debut this. after this weekend and this week. We have a new segment. Called the dead coach.

Travis White: walking. And... Unfortunately... Unfortunately for us, for the sake of this. segment uh, Easiest pick that we can make right now is going to be Shane Beamer out of South Carolina.

Travis White: Gamecocks are now 2 -2. They drop two straight in SEC play, one in Mississippi State, who looks good under Kamaru Taylor. And then going on the road and... getting walked down by Alabama.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um Not a good look for Shane Beamer. Kind of felt defeated even going into the Alabama game in a press conference saying, we may lose this weekend, but we're going to show up on Sunday for practice.

Travis White: what are What are the games for then? um So... Shane Beamer, unfortunately for him, it seems like his time at South Carolina is... Coming to an end. Not sure if it will happen midseason.

Travis White: Happened at the end of the season. Obviously, the biggest question with a lot of these coaches in 2026 is. buyouts.

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: um Obviously we had the whole.

Pat Q: 27.

Travis White: We had the whole... What's the word? Brian Kelly saga. This past offseason, Jimbo Fisher is still getting paid $7 million dollars by Texas A &M a year. um just some Absolutely ridiculous numbers to get rid of a guy.

Travis White: So that could keep Shane Beamer in the driver's seat for a little bit longer. but You have to kind of expect this Kentucky team under Will Stein. They look really good. So that could be. another disappointing weekend for the Gamecocks and doesn't get much easier for the rest of the way. You have games against...

Travis White: As I blank on them all. Florida.

Pat Q: Then a bye.

Travis White: Pat. Bye.

Pat Q: than Tennessee.

Travis White: Big bye week. Got to see you next week.

Pat Q: Tennessee at home. After that you go on the road to Oklahoma. um Obviously, Jaumatyr hasn't looked... Great in Oklahoma isn't exactly what a lot of people thought they were before the season, but Norman's still a difficult place to win, especially.

Pat Q: Let's say heading into that Halloween weekend. There might be... A new coach. There might be a new quarterback. um So there's certainly a lot of questions around the Gamecocks program right now.

Travis White: Yeah, and not to mention the Everything that happened with Dylan Stewart. on the field and off the field at Alabama this past weekend.

Pat Q: on

Travis White: So just not a good look for the program. um And unfortunately, I think. Shane's just not. keeping it all together so i think shane beamer confirmed to be our first dead coach walking of 2026.

Travis White: um Is this a dead program walking? We're going to talk just real quick. on Charlotte. football.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: Um, They've already lost to the Citadel we We look at their schedule. Going out the rest of the way. I think there's one team with a losing record right now left and that's going to be navy who probably shouldn't actually have a losing record

Pat Q: kind

Travis White: Um... I mean, I just don't see a lot of winnable games here for the 49ers. Pat, do you?

Pat Q: I do not, so... You know, this would have been a great segue when we were talking about teams that maybe should move down to FCS. I think the 49ers would do great. at the FCS level. um And I don't mean that. Like as a dig, as you can see, I'm wearing an FCS.

Pat Q: hat right now. um we We support FCS football here. But... I think that the experiment. really for a lot of their sports has been a failure in the American. um It just has not really translated the way that they wanted to. And particularly if we're looking at this football team right now. Um,

Pat Q: yesh Yeah. I think.

Pat Q: Maybe. Temple? Is your biggest chance at a win?

Travis White: That's what I said.

Pat Q: in Philly in two weeks.

Travis White: Temple on the road still.

Pat Q: And that Temple team can score. Um, Remember that.

Travis White: And they gave Penn State a heck of a game for a little bit.

Pat Q: Yeah, and they put... I want to say like 48 on Toledo um in the glass bowl. so They can score. at times. I know they had a bit of a dud against Army last week, but...

Pat Q: Army is going to play. Ball control football. You're not going to. probably put up like crazy points unless you're Notre Dame or a program that's used to playing the academies and kind of has just the athletes to dominate that game.

Pat Q: but It could get, I mean, it's been real ugly for. Charlotte, but it could get real. uglier. And I will say I'm.

Pat Q: kind of sickly excited that i'm gonna be at the game on October 30th, Friday night. Charlotte, North Carolina. when Tulane comes to town. um might Might be able to say I witnessed. One leg of the 0 -12 season.

Pat Q: And. I don't know. That Tulane team does not look great right now either. So that could be a really, really ugly football game.

Travis White: No, they don't look good. um Which, I mean, I feel like that harkens back to us in the offseason. Tulane was actually our lowest grade it.

Pat Q: i

Travis White: head coaching hire. um of the cycle that will hall felt like A cop out. They're sitting at... 500 ball with a program that consistently has been starting off the year 4 -0, 5 -0.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um Been very good. They have some signature wins in there. And then obviously a playoff appearance last year before ultimately losing. two games basically to Ole Miss one in week three the other one in the Play off at the exact same score just about

Pat Q: Bye -bye.

Travis White: Um, but Yeah, I mean... Technically, Charlotte has a higher chance to beat Tulane than they do to beat Temple. Bye.

Pat Q: Do they really?

Travis White: by ESPN Power Analytics.

Pat Q: app Uh, Well. I mean, actually Tulane did struggle with Southern Miss this week, so... Maybe I shouldn't just... Wave that off. um

Travis White: It's not that high of a percentage and it's not that much of a difference, but it still exists.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Pat Q: I did see a stat today. um I think 14. of Um, Charlotte's. 16. uh first opening drives since this coaching staff has been there uh have resulted in punts so Not.

Pat Q: Not starting hot. If you're the Niners, not getting hot at all throughout the game um either.

Travis White: ah that warm

Pat Q: and No, and that's... That's a tough way to win football games, you know? Um... I think. SP Plus has them as the... I want to say second worst team. and FBS right now? I believe ULM is slightly worse than them. according to SP plus, but it's like.

Pat Q: Those two and then a... big gap ah before you get to like UTEP. northern. Illinois, schools like that. Um, Bye. Yeah, man ah it's It's ugly in Charlotte. And I will give...

Pat Q: Charlotte credit where credits do like that's actually a pretty solid fan base for Um, a smaller school by like program history accolades standpoint. Um,

Pat Q: Obviously. as not the main campus either of the state system. I'm sure there's some alum who say that. They're Tar Heel fans, you know, because they went to a UNC campus. Um,

Pat Q: But fan support is there. and

Travis White: They do have nice facilities.

Pat Q: They have really nice facilities. They donated and raised a lot of money this offseason, so I just don't know. how it's gone so wrong and how it's gone so ugly. um But yeah yeah, this is... this is a really tough spot right now ah for Charlotte and Charlotte Athletics. because I mean they've got soccer.

Travis White: I mean, do we think like... I mean, very good soccer program. They're ranked once again now.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um But like do we think that this is just a perennial bottom feeder or do we think that there is like not power. conference for sure but like is this like a sleeping giant for like a group of six conference.

Pat Q: There's Definitely potential there. like I feel like this is... This is Tulane. free Willy Fritz in a way. Um. I don't think that they have Tulane money.

Pat Q: I'm not saying that but You're in an area with a lot of talent. In the Portal era, If a kid's not happy at North Carolina or state. Or Duke. or South Carolina, or Clemson, and they're like a three -star recruit.

Pat Q: Why not give them a chance? Um, to come to Charlotte. play. Get some experience and put up numbers, even if you keep them for just one season. Like if you keep that pattern. of We'll say being kind of like a second chance school for these kids so that they can produce and show that they belong in FBS. um I think.

Pat Q: That can lead to... Probably not like 10, 11 win seasons, but at least bowl eligibility on a consistent basis.

Travis White: Sure. and I think they're only... Bowling season was the Bahamas Bowl under Todd Healy. I believe, wish.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: He was out two years after that. So, I mean... Just kind of shows, I mean, that it's a very young program. Very, very young program.

Pat Q: It is, it is um

Travis White: but they They just need to get... Even if there's a flash in the pan just to go, hey, we got an 8 -1 season to build on.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: Because now we are, I believe, six years are removed from their last bowl appearance.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: with maybe six wins in between. Um, So, I mean... They got to do something. So, all right, the question, Charlotte winning a game this year.

Travis White: No.

Pat Q: No. Firm no. um

Travis White: Hey on the bright side for Charlotte fans, Drew Messamayer is no longer in the conference, so he will not throw for 700 yards this year.

Pat Q: I was there for that game. um That was a really fun game to watch, actually. and Charlotte actually hung with North Texas in that game for a little bit. um before

Travis White: They could completely scored 35 points.

Pat Q: Yeah, yeah, before... MestaMaker kind of... helped them pull away. Grayson Loftus was going blow for blow for a little while there. Like I said, Reclamation Project failed at Duke. Um,

Pat Q: I shouldn't say failed but... Didn't succeed to his standards at Duke. um two years ago they had o omega blake the former south carolina receiver and he put up like I think 750 yards and almost 10 touchdowns. like There is a potential to be.

Pat Q: a good to decent football program. um But this year is not that year.

Travis White: right Firm no on Charlotte. Pat, before we head into our predictions for the week. um going to give our listeners viewers and what have yous a little reminder once again our new show Theme Park Sickos will be debuting on Zencaster on Tuesday.

Travis White: October 6th. We will be going over Space Mountain as our first ride on the show. so just Nice little reminder.

Travis White: will Catch us over there a little bit.

Pat Q: Gentle, gentle.

Travis White: of a Gentle nudge, gentle nudge. Um, But just a little reminder. fur. If you enjoy our college football talk, we talk about other things sometimes too.

Travis White: That being said, Pat. We're going into possibly the biggest game in Bulldog history. since the last game. that mattered in this series about 10 years ago. Alabama goes to Davis Wade. Intakes on a Mississippi State. Last time this game had this much hype on it, Alabama was number five. Mississippi State was number one with Dak. Prescott at the helm.

Travis White: Well, they have a good quarterback now named Kamario Taylor. Very similar vibe. going in here do we think the bulldogs are the ones that actually get on top this time and redeem that essentially like heartbreak from their magical season.

Travis White: So long ago, do we think that that happens?

Pat Q: um I would love to say yes, because I think Mississippi State has been a fantastic story this year. If you like college football. and truly like the sport. like Things like that are what make. college football special. and unique you know, a program that's kind of struggled a little bit for identity. um struggle for consistency ever since mike leach passed away is now finally finding that again. um

Pat Q: And it's a lot of fun, you know, to see them find that success, um unfortunately, for You and me at the expense of South Carolina and the SEC opener.

Pat Q: But, um, It's been great to see. Kamario Taylor is a fantastic story. I hope that he stays at Mississippi State for his entire college career. It seems like he really loves the school and he wants to be there.

Pat Q: However, I think... Alabama's just... Too much. um So I'm going with the Tide to win this one. but I do think it'll be a very close game. um I don't think it's going to be a blowout or anything like that. like I think this is going to be one of those games where...

Pat Q: Alabama really kind of. Bears down on you either. Late third, early fourth quarter, and that's what makes the difference.

Travis White: Yeah. I can't really say a whole lot because I'm... in the exact same boat. um I think this is going to be a very fun game, but I think ultimately Alabama gets it done just because they've been there more often.

Travis White: They probably have slightly better players. Mississippi State great story. um I'm happy to see this. im

Pat Q: For sure.

Travis White: I saw... glimpses of it last year i'm a big jeff levy guy and i even in our buy sell segment i

Pat Q: You did buy Jeff Levy, yeah.

Travis White: I bought only Jeff Levy.

Pat Q: Heh.

Travis White: ive That's the first time. I think the only time still that. There was a buyer sell on a person.

Pat Q: hu

Travis White: um So, I mean, Jeff Levy, I think, is an incredible coach. I was a little concerned there that just the SEC grindstone was just getting to him and it just wouldn't work out.

Travis White: um But I mean, he's done what he's needed to do at Mississippi State. Are they making the playoff this year? Probably not. But are they going to be a fun team to watch for eight or nine wins? Yeah, I think so.

Travis White: But this week... I think belongs to the tide. Another fun story. And... Maybe be slightly more legit? with the coach that has a little bit more of the...

Travis White: proven. i don't know why you're laughing it's true it's true i love jeff levy but this guy's won a little bit more a little bit more pedigree That's John Summerall.

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: Great start at Florida. They go on the road to Columbia, Missouri. taking on the Tigers after just losing last week. in uh Starkville. This is a massive game for both teams. Missouri's coming into this very mad, very upset about that loss last week. Definitely a game that they feel like they should have won as a fan base in a program.

Travis White: Florida coming off of... one of the highest highs they've had. probably over a day

Pat Q: A while. yeah

Travis White: Um, I think Florida is a very good team. and they just basically dominated a very good Ole Miss team for four quarters. um but this is going to be ah a test for them they need to go on the road now and not have essentially a hangover game like Ole Miss may have had against them.

Travis White: um I think. The talent gap after seeing now what Florida has They will... Be able to get away with a little bit more maybe than Ole Miss like Ole Miss Definitely came with a little bit that hangover and Florida is just talented enough to take advantage of that I think with Missouri, some of their key injuries.

Travis White: um Will hurt them in this and I think they will take advantage of some of Florida's mistakes on the road and after a big week. But I don't think it's going to be enough. I think this is a very close game. Definitely one score.

Travis White: but I'm taking the Gators.

Pat Q: Yeah. um I like Florida in this game as well. I'm not sure, actually, how... close it will be. I don't know. I'm sort of torn on this Missouri team. um I really do like... Austin Simmons and the way he plays the quarterback position. I think that was a great portal pickup for them.

Pat Q: But... There's just something about ranked games in and Missouri the past few seasons that does not get along. I think I saw this week a stat that said the last time Missouri's beaten a ranked team. was 2024.

Pat Q: week. two i want to say um when they beat like 24th ranked boston college um So it's been a minute. Since coach drink has got it done. ah Yeah. Against a ranked opponent. um Ciao. I do like the Gators here. um Like you said, I think Coach Summerall has done a fantastic job and really highlighted to not just the SEC, but the country. what the right coaching move or the right coaching hire can do. you know completely changing.

Pat Q: So far, it seems like the culture of this Florida program. bringing with him that success that he had at Troy, that he had at Tulane. Um... And, you know, reinvigorating this Gator or fan base that...

Pat Q: Shout out Sunbelt Billy. He's doing it again at JMU. but he He was not doing it in the swamp. Um, So.

Pat Q: Yes, I like Florida to win this one. Um, And I don't know, you would know better than me, TJ. You think? If Missouri goes, let's say six and six, seven and five, five and seven.

Pat Q: in that window This year, you'd think drinks seat is getting a little hot.

Travis White: I think if there's a five and seven year in there, it's scorching. um i think that unfortunately for missouri some of that falls from

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: Possibly like... voter fatigue on Missouri.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um because i mean like Drink has won big games at Missouri. I mean, they have the Cotton Bowl. um

Pat Q: I was going to say Ohio State.

Travis White: victory against Texas or

Pat Q: They beat Ohio State, didn't they?

Travis White: Oh, it was Ohio State, 14 -7.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um Yes, you are right there. Either way, very big program. very big stage they get to win in the top 10 matchups so i mean like he's done it in the past But they...

Travis White: voters don't seem to like Missouri. As of late, they do have some good reasoning for it. I mean, I think Missouri based on how they were voting. last year i think 10 -2 Missouri was still not making the playoffs as an SEC team.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: kind of crazy to think but like that's just kind of how they're respected in the polls in which they're not um so i think if there's a five and seven team national credibility from Missouri would just plummet. I think they would really take that out on drink. They already kind of do.

Travis White: when in reality he's winning the game he needs to. He just needs to get win. one or two of the games that they're not meant to.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: to get them over the edge. But yeah, I mean... Missouri, they Cups in the winning big 12 days and everything so they even have to sec east um titles and

Pat Q: titles, yeah.

Travis White: trips to atlanta so this is a program that they win they figure it out So they can't go on much longer, I think, with this. Like, one in, one out. So five and seven, I don't know. He could be getting fired, missing a bowl game.

Pat Q: out Okay.

Travis White: Um... We'll move on from there though. that that's ah That's another segment for another day.

Pat Q: Yeah, yeah

Travis White: um We're going to hit some Friday night lights. Undefeated teams in the ACC. One of these should maybe be ranked. They definitely will be after this weekend. That's going to be 4 -0 Pitt traveling to Blasburg.

Travis White: Forno, Virginia Tech. pat i'm going to take this real quick here

Pat Q: Go for it.

Travis White: I'm a believer now. I'm a believer. James Franklin, 9 -3 Penn State. That's out the door. Virginia Tech, Newtown. Four now looks good It's going to be a big win under this belt right here. He's going to be number probably 21.

Travis White: After this weekend here. But I like James Franklin. I like the Hokies. I think this is. This is something. Please do not start asking me if they're going to make the playoff, though. because I'm not ready for that conversation. But I am starting to believe, because I did not think that we would be in this spot right now, even though the ACC is a week's schedule.

Travis White: I'm starting to believe them.

Pat Q: Fair.

Travis White: Starting to believe.

Pat Q: Gonna hit you with a... Not so fast, my friends. I think this is a spot that... Hit. as sort of a program under Pat Narduzzi thrives in. where You know.

Pat Q: They're not gonna... typically beat. those top teams, you know, they were good for An upset every two or three years against Clemson during Clemson's prime. Um, But besides that, like in an actual.

Pat Q: I'll say meaningful. Um, game, they always seem to come up short in those moments. Um, but against a team. That's finding momentum, finding identity.

Pat Q: possibly with a new coach like this is kind of where they've thrived you know this is how they've carved out consistent at least seven to eight win seasons under narduzzi is making sure they don't Slip up.

Pat Q: against teams that I would say are pretty elite. evenly matched. like I don't really see that big of a gap between this Pitt team and this Virginia Tech team. in terms of talent. in terms of scheme, in terms of production.

Pat Q: But I trust.

Pat Q: Mason Heinzschel. more than I trust Ethan Grunkmeier in this situation. Virginia Tech. It scared me a little bit. I'm not going to lie with that game.

Pat Q: last week against Boston College. I know. It was played in a Nor 'eastern. I know. The weather was crappy. I get it. Bye. They were losing that game for like a majority of it ah before their defense really turned it on for some big turnovers that led to points. so I like Pitt here.

Pat Q: um to pick up a big win. and I don't know. It's really looking like This season, obviously Miami is our top dog. But. Bye.

Pat Q: Still. probably stupidly could see Louisville. making their way into the ACC title picture. um But Duke looks fantastic so far. Pitt looks pretty good. Virginia Tech looks pretty good. so I mean SMU is still there.

Pat Q: this This is going to be a fun race, even if... Like you said, it might not be the deepest conference. I think this will be a fun conference. um or watch.

Travis White: I will say, I think. The number two for who gets to Charlotte is definitely open. I don't really think the ACC wants it to be open given the caliber of...

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: what the two is probably going to be now. But... I mean, Miami's got to be looking their lips going like. We're in the playoff pretty much regardless because I mean don't make it to Charlotte even know if they take a loss somewhere in there.

Travis White: The ACC title was... It's gone. What do you call it? Catapult them.

Pat Q: Guarantee.

Travis White: There we go.

Pat Q: Yeah, yeah.

Travis White: board. into the playoff picture if they are somehow out of it. come early December. So now an interesting game. Staying in the ACC though.

Travis White: There's reasons for this. there's reasons we Gotta let it cook. Gotta let it cook. We got UVA taking on Florida State. No, this game is not in Charlottesville on a Friday night. Hopefully, Doak Campbell does have power this game.

Travis White: But yeah, this is a very... weird matchup. um UVA sitting at 2 -2, I would... No. Losing. 3 -1 One in three.

Travis White: Three and one. One and three. 3 -1.

Pat Q: on

Travis White: Virginia Tech, or Virginia, I don't know what I'm talking about. Florida State, Virginia. Pat, I'm going to pass it over to you before I lose the show any further.

Pat Q: I mean, let me grab it. um Yeah. So. This is an interesting... Virginia team. um They are 3 -1. They lost. Maybe surprisingly. Yes.

Pat Q: You're kind of an outsider looking in to West Virginia. ah in a neutral site game in Charlotte that was... kind of You know, two teams trying to grind each other out and West Virginia just had. a way stronger rushing attack and a better rush defense. um But they blew the doors off Delaware last week.

Pat Q: They won pretty convincingly against NC State and their. FCS opponent. I forget who it was. I think it was one of the Virginia schools. Um,

Pat Q: And then we've got... Florida State. Ooh. I'll give them credit. They hung. with SMU and arguably could have won that game because of the turnovers and the chaos they created.

Pat Q: They hung with Alabama for. half of that football game Um, They looked pretty good against the FCS team last week. Um,

Pat Q: I don't know. I feel like this is... This is on our radar Because this could potentially be... A precursor to next week's episode when we talk about our next. quote unquote, dead coach walking. um if Mike Norvell does not get a victory here.

Travis White: Yeah, I mean... I feel like Mike Norvell may ultimately be... mister Dead coach walking. However, that buyout.

Pat Q: Ha!

Travis White: bolts them out a lot. you know, Florida State fans might. Looked to the Alabama game last year and then the first half of the Alabama game this year and see like, well, there's... hopes to it, but then we just can't.

Travis White: put full games together, or he can't put games that you expect.

Pat Q: Uh -huh.

Travis White: They'll win. out there on the field and get the result that they need. um i Am one take UVA here because this game keeps tripping me up and I don't want to talk too much on it But I'm a big fan of Bo Pribula. I think that he plays...

Travis White: solid at the quarterback position for his style i think it fits a well for virginia and it's Yes.

Pat Q: For sure.

Travis White: weird in a way. in that. that works for Virginia. um And I think it's going to throw people off. And I think this level of play is perfect. SEC was maybe just a little too high for Bo.

Pat Q: yeah yeah

Travis White: But ACC, especially with the way the conference is right now, he should be able to thrive for the rest of the season. So I like the Cavaliers getting it done in Tallahassee.

Pat Q: Yeah, I'm going to go with the Who's here as well. Um, And. You know, while we're talking about coaches, I'll flip the conversation to the opposite side and give a huge shout out to Tony Elliott. um his first I'll say season and a half in Virginia did not look great. um And since that point, it's been.

Pat Q: A total... Um, 180. He's flipped this program into relevancy. you know There were a few. cleaner plays away from winning the ACC last year. um and possibly making the college football playoff. So I think he's done a fantastic job.

Pat Q: with UVA. um and sort of molding this program into his identity. and Like you said, Bo Pribula fits that system really, really well. He can create with his legs. He can do enough in the passing game against most ACC defenses. um So yeah, give me the who's here. I do you think it's going to be close just because it.

Pat Q: is at Doak and... Duke. doak isn't what it used to be, but it's still a tough place to play. Um, But yeah, I do like UVA.

Travis White: Okay. We're then going to the newest rivalry in college football that is going to be the Battle of the Basins, Wyoming and North Dakota State. This is North Dakota State's first. ah Mountain West Conference game.

Travis White: uh at you know, their FPS level. And this is the second time that they have played. Ever. Only other time came in 2008. Obviously, North Dakota State was firmly in FCS.

Travis White: this is I believe just before they started going on their title runs. And it was a 16 -13 win for Wyoming. So very...

Pat Q: yeah Okay.

Travis White: close. So. North Coast State already starting to play ball with. some of the quote -unquote big boys um That being said, they are. Now, a big boy.

Travis White: Maybe man. Wyoming. Still. the same that they were back then.

Pat Q: Child.

Travis White: i they have a 10 -inch replica. Trophy ever. Drill. to signify the energy sectors of their states.

Travis White: I don't think it's going to leave North Dakota State very often. So I'm taking the bison. confidently.

Pat Q: Yeah, I'm with you there. um this Wyoming team. They did beat Hawaii. But they also lost to Central Michigan, who... um I was going to say not great. um I think... We don't really need too much exposition here.

Pat Q: Go with the bison. and go with them confidently.

Travis White: Okay. That then leads us to our Pac -South game of the week, and we did not forget about you, Big Ten. Don't you worry. 2014 playoff can stay on pause. Don't talk about that.

Travis White: We're going to talk about Ohio State and Iowa here, though. If you like that segue, we can use it next week.

Pat Q: I did. That was good.

Travis White: too You're welcome. You can use that, too, if you want. All right, this game's in Kinnick. Things always get weird. um I should have looked at the kickoff time and not see it if this is a night game, though. even more weird.

Travis White: um Iowa, I'm a little bit concerned ah right now. Obviously, they got the win for America last week against Michigan. um We needed that.

Travis White: All of us. The fact that that game came down to the last play, though, I am very concerned. I thought that was a game that Iowa was going to be able to go in. Yes, it's in the big house, but I thought they would be able to take on a two score victory and not really feel. it Like.

Travis White: Concerned about that, but they were very very much about to lose that game Ohio State on the other hand looks... Very, very good. If it was not for a second half collapse. on the road.

Travis White: against One of the best teams in the country. They would still be undefeated right now. um Obviously. Just. matchup has. some history but i do think that Ohio State is just...

Travis White: firmly a better team. firmly a better team. Iowa is letting me down a little bit. with how I was talking them up, especially during the Psyhawk week. um Yeah, I don't think being at home helps.

Travis White: Not helps, but it doesn't save. the hawkeyes so i like ohio state they're going to get it done maybe a 10 point win or so, but I like Ohio State.

Pat Q: Yeah, I like Ohio State here as well. Um, I think it might actually be a little bit bigger gap. then what you might be thinking um i could see this easily getting stretched out to like 17 perhaps Just because.

Pat Q: Ohio State clearly is. one of the best football teams in the country um And especially from a talent standpoint. They have everything you could want on. both sides of the football.

Pat Q: Iowa. to me is just a little too inconsistent offensively. You know, you mentioned gutting one out and credit to them in the big house but they also really struggled with in -state rival Iowa State especially running the football against Iowa State. And then.

Pat Q: Last week we saw... Utah just... tear up the Cyclones' run defense. So that was a little bit... worrying for me um in terms of you know what is Iowa going to be able to do?

Pat Q: hand up I said I think it was last week when we were picking the Michigan game that Iowa. has the potential to be an explosive offense. I think I was a little premature on that one. So.

Pat Q: I'm rolling with the bucks here. um And. Yeah, I do think it's probably going to be. in that 14 to 17 margin uh for a victory

Travis White: Okay. Well, there you have it, Pat. You... Love. the road team this week outside of Wyoming.

Pat Q: I love ah love the road teams this week, yes.

Travis White: Yeah, so... Could be some upset fans driving home this week, according to Pat, but we'll see how it goes.

Pat Q: know

Travis White: It's going to be a little bit of a weird week for us as well. It's going to be a Sunday recording. Same time, Wednesday release, but you're going to catch... Raw. Raw. raw um

Pat Q: Thoughts let's say

Travis White: Oh, yeah

Pat Q: Um...

Travis White: Raw chicken. It's gonna be raw chicken on Sunday Um, So you're going to get our exact reactions from this week of college football, so that'll be very fun as well.

Pat Q: ahha

Travis White: Um, Pat, what like game are you looking forward to most this week? What are you watching?

Pat Q: You know, I'm gonna shout out LBJ. And I'm not talking about our 36th president. I'm talking about one of the great rivalries... in college football And that is.

Pat Q: Minnesota, Michigan. And I actually. I probably... Amen. i'm Not going to love saying this on on our ah podcast here, but I actually like Minnesota to win that game.

Pat Q: um Going with PJ Fleck. Sky you ma. Give me the gophers to. Take back the little brown jug.

Travis White: Bold.

Pat Q: Very bold.

Travis White: Bold. well Okay, well, I'll follow in. The boldness. I will be watching the UCF -Houston game. um that would be a shock if ucf gets a win there but also a little bit of a shock You win.

Pat Q: Space of you.

Travis White: Um, So. Backup quarterback right now, Alonzo Barrett's out. Could be fun to see the Knights. um get to at least some semblance of what they were under tenure number one under Scott Frost.

Pat Q: hu

Travis White: Because that was a very fun team. if he can create some resemblance of that. That would be just a lot of fun and really dig into like big 12 football culture. Uh, but it's Houston. team' Good. So I don't know. I'll be watching that one though. And we'll come back on Sunday with.

Travis White: our thoughts reactions and how upset we are. With.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: our team so For Pat, I am TJ. We will catch you all next time.
