Shine Eternally: Zulu guitarist Braxton Marcellous’s ska roots
There are some excellent new hardcore bands out right now. Soul Glo. Scowl. Sunami. Today we focus on Zulu, and talk with their guitarist Braxton Marcellous, who played briefly in a ska band when he was in high school. Not only that, but he attended many ska shows. We discuss it all!
We discuss the Inland Empire in Southern California, since that’s where he’s from, and it’s where he’s done most of his skanking. We dive into the ska bands of this area, and also talk about Braxton’s love for glam metal, his Van Halen tattoo, Sublime tattoo, and his initial reaction to hearing Choking Victim
We also talk about Zulu’s excellent album, A New Tomorrow, which has plenty of non-hardcore interludes, including some reggae and a song title that references Bob Marley. We also learn what Braxton’s favorite 90s ska song is!
