Adding Flair to Glazes

fun, but it can get boring with all the same tedious and repetitive motions over and over and over again.
00:00:23
Speaker
That is why in this episode, I will share with you three ways that you can add some flair to your glazes. What is up everybody? This is Nick Torres here with Shaping Your Pottery. Now, I'm gonna be talking about three ways that you can add flair to glazes. And these three ways are super easy and anyone can do it no matter what technique you are using. So,

Techniques to Add Glaze Flair

00:00:48
Speaker
number one is to add dots around the pots.
00:00:52

Now you're going to need some type of tool for this. Maybe it's a brush or maybe it's like a toothpick or something in order to do this. But it is super easy to do. All you're going to do is whatever you're using, dip it into the glaze and just dot it. Make a dot onto the pot.

and just keep on doing that as many times as you want until you are satisfied with it. And you just keep on doing that over and over again. And it's super easy to do. So

Fingerprint Technique Exploration

now number two is one of my favorite ones. When I was in high school, I think I was about a junior or so, we were trying to glaze me, my friend, and we were trying to come up with a way to make our glaze and our pot look kind of different from other night, kind of just out of nowhere. I started
00:01:41
Speaker
putting my thumb into the glaze and I started fingerprinting my mug or my pot all around it and it just kind of became one of my favorites since then because when I saw the results it came out really really cool you could see my fingerprints in them and you could see the glaze turn a different color with the dots I made on my with my finger and it came out really good so all you have to do for this one is literally just dip a finger or your thumb whatever it is into the glaze

and then just smack it onto the pot and just do that as many times as you want. Same thing with the kind of the dotting.

Splattering Glaze for Unique Effects

00:02:19
Speaker
So now the third one is probably a little bit the most complicated, but it's also very easy to do at the same time. So you need either a brush or just some way that you can splatter the glaze onto the pot. And now I recommend this either you do this with like a spray booth
00:02:40
Speaker
or outside because this can get a little bit messy. So all you're going to do is you're going to dip the brush or maybe you have one of those booger suckers that we use for babies and you can use that on there and you are simply just going to splatter the glaze onto the pot. It's like, think of it, you have a paintbrush and you have paint on it and you just swing your arm really fast and you get
00:03:06
Speaker
paint all over the wall. That is exactly what we're doing here. And we're just gonna splatter it and you just keep on splattering it as many times as you want until you think it looks cool. And those are three simple but super fun ways to alter your glazing and make them have a little bit of extra flair.
