Speaker: Welcome to the Italian football podcast. What do you think of this Italy team? Because we here at the Italian football podcast, we don't really have much hope in Italy defending their title. Do you think that they could be a player in this tournament? I'll tell you what, we often, to our cost, right off the Italian side, you know, they are an extremely well -rounded team. Speaker: a stronger clutch of players without a doubt than they have in the past, when they've won things, that type of thing. But they seem to find a way. And to be honest with you, I don't think too many teams will enjoy coming up against them, if I'm being honest with you. If you ask me, do I think they could win it? Probably not. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did either. Would you have liked to have played in Serie A during your playing days? And did you ever have any offers or any interest from Italian teams?
Speaker: Yes, the answer to the question is yes. It was the highest standard of football in European stroke world football at the time. A close friend of mine, Des Walker, ended up going there and playing at Sampdoria. He used to tell me how enjoyable it was playing in Italy.
Speaker: I had, I think it was 1992. I think I thought that there was interest from Sam Doria as well going there to join him, but nothing come of that. But to be honest with you, I think it would have been a good place to play your football. I think makes you a more rounded player and all the players from England that went there and they only took the good ones. You know what I mean? The real top quality went to Italy. You know, they had enough good players and certainly good defenders, but it would have interested me. Yes.
