What is up Shaping Nation on this episode of Shaping Your Pottery I am talking about how your pottery should always be evolving!

The more we practice our skills in pottery the more our voice will begin to change as well. If your pottery is still the same as it was two years ago or when ever you found your unique voice then you aren't growing as a potter. We should always be evolving our voice and sometimes that means completely changing what we have been making.

If you are ready to start discovering your voice you must first start by asking the right questions. That's why I created a Free 15 question template to help you get started with discovering your voice click here to get your 15 questions to discovering your pottery voice

Speaker
Let's get started. What is up, Shaping Nation? This is Nick Torres here. And in this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm going to be talking about how your pottery voice can change over time. It doesn't just stay the same.
00:00:48
Speaker
You see, I just had a really great interview with Kate Schrader. In this interview, Kate was explaining how she's always kind of making new things, her style is always kind of changing. And doing this, her voice is constantly changing as well. Her voice is constantly evolving as she is continuing making and continuing this journey of pottery.

Speaker
You see, a lot of people probably think that if you have a voice, then you have to keep with that voice forever because that's what everybody else is liking and that's what is making you the money.

The Continuous Growth of Pottery Skills

Speaker
But you see, it doesn't have to be the same as when you first started party or when you first started finding your voice.
00:01:37
Speaker
Your voice is going to evolve with your skills. And the more your skills evolve, the more your voice is gonna evolve. And it's an endless loop. You see, the more that you are able to get your skills to evolve and the more your voice is gonna evolve as well.

Exploration and New Directions in Pottery

Speaker
If you aren't enjoying what you are making anymore, maybe you've been making that for a couple years, whatever you're making for a couple years now, and you just kind of aren't enjoying it anymore,
00:02:05
Speaker
then start trying to find a new voice, start experimenting some more, start trying to find new ways of finding your voice. And if you are worried about your online presence and thinking that this is what I am known for this and I can't go on and change it because this is what is making me money and this is what I am known for. Why not just make an announcement saying,
00:02:28
Speaker
Hey, this is my last bit of things that I'm making with this. And I'm thinking about going in a different direction. I'm thinking about doing this, this, and this. And just do it. I'm going to be selling my pottery for cheaper now until they run out. And I'm going to be focusing on coming up with a new style, a style that fits me and that I like more. I've kind of gotten a little bit bored with this style. So I'm going to evolve my style further.
00:02:55
Speaker
Imagine if you just made that statement out to your audience or to whoever buys your work.
00:03:00
Speaker
They're going to they're maybe not going to like it at the time, maybe, but I'm sure they're going to be like a ton more that I support even. But yeah, go do it. Go go make whatever you want to make. Go evolve your work. I'm excited to go see your

work. I bet you're going to be ton more of that if you just make that announcement and just start going to pursue things that you want to do. If you have ideas, go do it. Go start changing your style.
00:03:26
Speaker
change your style get uncomfortable get uncomfortable so you grow as a potter grow at creating your own voice your voice will evolve as you grow as a potter
00:03:38
Speaker
We pottery is not so standstill where you have to do the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again. But it's more flexible now. You have a creativity. It's art. You can pursue your style further, your voice further if you choose to. Don't get stuck in just thinking about the sales.

Creating Passionate Art and Engaging Audience

00:03:59
Speaker
And I know it can be hard and scary when you are not being able to make any money. But if you are able to push past that for a second and start focusing on what you actually make, and let your audience know that this is what you are doing now, then you're going to go a lot further, you're gonna be a lot happier, even your audience is probably gonna be a lot happier because you
00:04:22

they're probably gonna find something new that they think was interesting. Thanks for listening to this episode of Shaping Your Pottery.
