Speaker: Episode 20, content creator versus videographer. And do you need Bolton? Ooh.
Speaker: Um... I mean... Obviously we can start with kind of talking about the difference between the two. um Yeah, I think content creators are new. to the scene yeah in the last few years. At least locally, they might have been around longer in bigger markets. But here in Idaho, it's become a lot more common recently. Yes.
Speaker: um But yeah, I mean, the content creator is like typically like the one that like, you know, they're using like their iPhone. It's like the behind the scenes. It's stuff that's like they're creating like the Instagram TikTok stories.
Speaker: You're getting that raw footage. That they're just kind of again recording like with their phone. Yeah. Um... It's a really quick turnaround. It's like... They provide it all to you.
Speaker: probably the next day or within two days. They're not editing a lot of it. It's sort of just like having your best friend follow you around. Yeah. But.
Speaker: your best friend's like in the wedding with you. So it's someone who can just kind of capture all the moments that you like, don't want to miss the wedding day. Yeah. um I think they're really helpful because it is like immediate. So you usually get that content. I even remember like at the day after my wedding day, I was like, oh, I wish I could see what like our first dance looked like. Yeah. Like things like that. You just wonder kind of how it all turned out.
Speaker: And so I think that is one of the... like main benefits of them it's like social media ready you get it and yeah it's all shot vertically so it's like ready to be posted or ready to be shared or maybe they already shared it on their Like...
Speaker: page so it's fun to reshare. Right. Yeah. But it's also... I mean, with that being said, it's not It's definitely not replacing a videographer. Like, I definitely think they are different. Yeah. Because they're not producing that, like...
Speaker: wedding film it's like these snippets of the behind the scene Like again, for social media, for that content. So I think that's sometimes a misconception is like. they're not it's not They're not the same thing. Yes. Totally different. And yeah, I think the biggest thing that we kind of talked about was like audio, like instead of being recorded. It's just on your phone. So I think a lot of the times the...
Speaker: um content creators like will put trending music over it and things like that whereas Part of the reasons that like we wanted real videos was to hear like toasts and like people talking and yeah kind of get everyone's emotions captured that way. Yeah.
Speaker: So that's kind of... the content creator. And then like now with a videographer, That is more like the highlight like highlight film, the full ceremony, like Allie just said, toasts. You're getting that professional audio. Typically, it's like, you know, during the ceremony, they put a little. like microphone on you.
Speaker: They are tapped into the DJs like equipment. So like they're. catching all those big moments and recording them using that professional again audio and and sometimes even drone footage so they have the capability of like getting those full Perimeter shots. Yeah. And they're like editing and.
Speaker: All these things to kind of put this full video together. Yeah. It's definitely a lot higher quality. Yeah. like Because As much as we love our iPhones and think that. They're amazing. The...
Speaker: the quality of a real. camera yeah like it's just different yeah for sure and it's like I mean the benefits like you're getting this professional storytelling and that's That's what I loved.
Speaker: and wanted for like why I wanted a videographer. videographer because I wanted. I knew a doing what we do. I knew the day was going to fly by and then we're going to get pieces of it that I wasn't necessarily going to get to experience or it was going to just. Happened so fast or whatever. So just like.
Speaker: getting to rewatch your video. It's like from start to finish, it's really telling the story of your day. Totally. And it just is like, you know, again, capturing those audio pieces. Like I love in like the videographer videos where it's like, there is some of that music, but then they'll, they'll. tap in and out of like the live footage of the The vows being read and yeah the toast going on. Like it just, yeah. It takes you.
Speaker: back to like that day so much more clearly than not having the audio yeah That's such a big. thing And it's a long... I mean our wedding videos are five to seven minutes or something and it's A lot longer than obviously like a 30 second.
Speaker: Or two minute long reel. Yeah. So it definitely like takes you. yeah to your wedding yeah like let you like relive it it's like a long -term keepsake I mean, but then the misconception is like, you don't get the footage immediately. I mean, it usually takes like, you know, them eight, you know, up to eight to 10 weeks to like, obviously, because they're doing all this editing. I mean, they have recorded so much throughout the day that they have to like.
Speaker: pieced together. So that is... I mean, not necessarily negative, but that is kind of the big difference I feel like between the two is it's like, again, that. content creator can get it to you right away whereas a videographer is like has to take the time to like edit everything yeah and put it all together. Yes.
Speaker: um So now the big question is, do you need both? I mean... I feel like if you have the budget for it, like it's fun and like, yes, why not? But i don't I don't know if it's necessarily...
Speaker: I don't know if it's necessary. I think it just depends on the person. Like if you're super active on social media and you want to be able to like. post these things right away and put it like do all that like yeah i think it'd be fun but and i think too depending on your budget i mean i do think content creators are in general obviously a little more reasonably priced in the sense that like they're more affordable for the majority of the couples and so if you can't afford
Speaker: afford a $10 ,000 wedding videographer. It's a good it could be a good middle ground. Yeah. To get you some of those scenes and some of that like emotion captured while still like being yeah relatively affordable. Yeah. So I think that's like.
Speaker: kind of yeah what you should consider like if you're going to choose a videographer Because if you have the budget for it and if you're wanting them that more like the film and or I mean the like the full video and like some of the audio and that stuff, that's kind of what you would probably want a videographer for.
Speaker: But if you're having like a really small wedding and you have a really small budget, like the content creator might be a better fit. Yeah. So. Yeah, I mean, I think it just really depends, like we said, on the person on your budget.
Speaker: and kind of what you think but I don't I don't think both are necessary But. I think you definitely could have both. Yeah, I think they work well together. Like they're not stepping on each other's toes. Yeah. If you have the money to do it and you want both, it's a great option.
Speaker: When you go to hire yeah either, and we have a few questions that we just like to ask to make sure that they're kind of a good fit. So with content creators, we want to know how quickly they deliver content.
Speaker: as that is like sort of the main goal is that you have it rapidly we want that 24 to 48 hour turnaround at least sneak peeks or something like the night of or the next morning um How many edited reels do they include? Mm -hmm. And then do they provide all the raw footage and all the... edited footage or is it one or the other and then it's always good to know kind of what their shooting style is we talk about this a lot with photography but there's bright and airy there's dark and moody There's.
Speaker: A whole complex of in -between and even just the way that they light it. yeah Even though it's just on an iPhone, it's still... obviously can look very different. then like from each person to person. So just making sure you know what their shooting style is and that you like that for sure.
Speaker: Yeah, and then I think with videographer, like, how much hours of... coverage that they offer. do they include what's included in the final film again i think asking to do get the raw footage with the edited footage.
Speaker: um how you know how is the audio captured and even some I've even had couples ask like Are they able to pick the songs that they put over the video? That's a huge one. They're particular about that. Because sometimes, I mean, there is that whole like music rights.
Speaker: So I think depending on some videographers have rights to certain music, some don't. So I think that's like an important question. And then again, like their turnaround, like when can you expect as is maybe like a sneak peek video or when can you?
Speaker: get the full video back. I think are good questions to ask when you're hiring them. yeah And even sometimes too, if like a drone is included or not, that's another good question to ask videographers.
Speaker: Um, And I think even sometimes too, because like photographers, sometimes there's a second shooter. like asking that with your videographer, like they may also bring a second. So just things to kind of...
Speaker: I mean, especially on their pricing, it's really good to know like if you're going to... pay pay a certain price what is like included. And sometimes it's worth to pay a little more to get some of those extra things. Yeah.
Speaker: Okay, now rapid fire round. So we were thought it'd be fun if we'd kind of ask just a couple questions to each other and just see like what our opinions are. um If the budget allows only one.
Speaker: What do you think, Allie? I'm doing videographer. Just because you could snap. like I even only did a videographer. Content creators weren't around. But I like at least can shorten those and still put them on social media and like use them in ways that I want. yeah But I love having the long format one. I try to watch it every year on our anniversary. yeah It's just kind of fun to have.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, I think I would pick videographer too. I mean, I think the content creators are great and I think it's so cool that they can do. I just am. I don't know. I feel like I'm not a big social. I mean, i I'm on social media, but I just don't I don't care as much about that stuff. So I think, I mean, obviously I would love it, but I just think the eyes same. I like. I mean, every year on our anniversary, we we watch rewatch our video and it's just like i love it like it's so much fun and
Speaker: I just, like we said, I love the storytelling of our wedding. And I've had people that it didn't even go to our wedding and like watch it. And they're just like, they like. feel how we felt on our wedding day and it's just I love it Yeah, it's so special.
Speaker: Would you do a drone? Yeah. We, cause ours included drone footage and I think it's so cool. Cause we got like married at a golf course and like, and then part of it, we were like in our golf carts. And so it's like.
Speaker: There's video of us up close and then he like goes out and just like to see. the full space of the venue and like us like you know, trucking along and I don't know. I just, I think it's super cool. I think drone footage is, I think it's worth it. Yeah.
Speaker: but Totally. I agree. Yeah, I think it's worth it. And you want to make sure at least someone has it like yeah your photographer or your videographer. Um... Just because it is beautiful to see some of those like views, especially like where you got married, where it was so scenic. Yeah. and But even I love the overshots of like the ceremony or like the bride walking down the aisle. yeah It's just a view that.
Speaker: Obviously, no one else got to see except like birds. And I think, I mean, it's A, you spent all this money on this venue. So it is cool to like. really showcase the venue and then selfishly on the planner side we love it because it really again like Ali just said showcases the setup of the ceremony that the the tables like all that hard work that we put in Yeah, it's a beautiful view. I like it for that, too.
Speaker: um Ceremony video or getting ready footage. I mean... i i think ceremony video obviously i mean like i think the getting ready footage is fun But I think that's, again, it's going to go back. that That's like a...
Speaker: good thing to ask like your video and photographers like how long they're going to be there and things to keep in mind because obviously you want the ceremony recorded yeah but if you also want them for send off they may or may not get your getting ready footage so totally But.
Speaker: Yeah, I think ceremony video for sure. I think still. images of the getting ready is ample Like, or none. I mean... Those aren't going to go on your wall. Right. Like, I don't know. I think they're cute and like they're very Pinterest and fun. Everyone's matching and all of these fun things. But it's not.
Speaker: like life -changing or like Getting my makeup done isn't going to be you know posted anywhere. So yeah I think they're kind of funny. to get those but yeah And then raw footage or edited reels. um
Speaker: I don't know. i mean I think. I would probably say the raw footage. I mean, I kind of like some of the raw footage. I don't know. But then obviously the edited reels can also be fun. So I don't know. I'm kind of torn. I think the edited reels are what's actually going to get shared. Yeah. Like if you don't have someone like making them for you. Right. It can be pretty hard to like.
Speaker: Get your life together to do it yourself. That's true. Like the reel that I did this morning, I swear to God, it took me two hours. But raw footage is so special because you get to hear funny.
Speaker: Yeah. People talking and like voices and all of that. Yeah. Which I think is really special. Like, yeah, that's true. And I think it's like for you, it's nice to have the raw footage, but if the purpose is to like share it.
Speaker: You probably want something edited, yeah. clean and ready that's true So, yeah, I mean, that is kind of our opinion on content creator or videographer. um But just I mean, our closing takeaway, I guess, is that the content creators help you experience your wedding like online tomorrow.
Speaker: Whereas like the videographers help are going to help you relive your wedding like 10 years from now. So I think those, that's where it's, I mean. They're both so fun and can be so special, but just very different.
