RICK JAMES: Storm changed. Yeah, Storm kind of screwed our... Little stuff up early chains are a tenner area around so now i flew like friday and i didn't get to go see gene so Gene had a Had stuff planned for us, too, and I missed it. so

The SnowJobs Podcast: Last week was the Pennsylvania swing. We had Stork's Plow Tech School on Wednesday. We had S and &S Snow and Ice. ah symposium on Thursday.
The SnowJobs Podcast: ah And that was in Scranton. Jeremy, like you said, Storks had their 40th anniversary open house and dinner. um And that was Friday. And unfortunately.
RICK JAMES: Anyhow.
The SnowJobs Podcast: We missed it.
RICK JAMES: Thank you. I think he said that he had something going until noon on Saturday, too. So, yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yeah, i think I think the open house events continued Saturday at Storch's as well. But yeah, we missed it.
RICK JAMES: Yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: We couldn't do it. I had to go. I had to go suck at golf, and Jeremy had to. get back to Fargo. so Nobody made it, but that's unfortunate.
RICK JAMES: Yep.
The SnowJobs Podcast: But congratulations to Storks on 40 years. That's quite a milestone for a family -owned business that's ah that's really cool for them. and they They keep bringing it and raising the bar. So that's ah a great thing for the industry and definitely a great thing for the guys in the Northeast that have Douglas Dynamics stuff, that's for sure.

He's been absolutely killing it since he started. And we met him last year, actually, at... ah at sns and we told him you know come on over and sit with us hang out with the boys and do some networking. and
The SnowJobs Podcast: you know in one year it's it's pretty impressive you know to hear ah you know Guys we know, like Anthony Mann, talk about how much... ah This guy has grown. and how how great the work is that he does. so We're like, you know what, we've got to do an S and &S review and a Storks review there.
The SnowJobs Podcast: ah Anyway, so we might as well bring on somebody. If we're going to bring on guys to talk about the events anyway, we might as well. you know get this guy on to talk about his company and how he's grown it in the last year or two.
The SnowJobs Podcast: So ah today, for your listening pleasure, we got Louis DiMatteo of LCD Property Management Services. They're out of Moscow, Pennsylvania. And, you know, like I said, we met him last year, and he's grown in leaps and bounds. And everybody that knows him and is in that area say he's just killing it and making all the right moves. so we'll ah well We'll talk to them and hear all about LCD. and what his plans for the future are. loulandscape20: We've been in business for about five, six years now.

loulandscape20: Um, It was actually. like one of my second times ever being at S and S. um And then after that day, me and Tony got into a great relationship.

The SnowJobs Podcast: So you brought you bought a brine sprayer and a snow power after last year's S and &S show. how did how You had a good winter last year, right, like you like everybody else in the Northeast?
loulandscape20: Yeah. It was a game changer of a year.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I bet. And how did the ah the snow power just had to like totally change your game as well for Truck Clown, right?
loulandscape20: Yeah, the F14 completely, you know. turned our business right around was just so much efficient. And um right after that. bought that V11. And. I'm probably gonna buy another F -14 this year.

The SnowJobs Podcast: it's really hard to justify doing it the old way, you know, with with what's available in the old school stuff.
loulandscape20: Yeah.

loulandscape20: I mean, you know, we're, a first I mean, we're not really that small, but, you know, we're ah we're a local company here. in in northeastern Pennsylvania. And you know we strive on you know giving a good quality service to our clients.
loulandscape20: We do a little bit of everything, all kinds of outdoor services from site work to blacktop to a little little bit of concrete to landscaping. even we We still even cut grass. um We do a lot of 12 -month contracts.
loulandscape20: And. We just know strive on giving a good quality service to our clients and making sure everybody's happy.

loulandscape20: Well, you gotta do a little bit of everything. You know, I like to have my hands in a little bit of everything because I hate seeing someone else on my...

loulandscape20: Yeah, it does sometimes.

loulandscape20: You know, you gotta pick and choose what you want to do.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Absolutely. So you started five or six years ago and how old are you now?
loulandscape20: 21.
The SnowJobs Podcast: 21. Wow. All right. and And everybody.
RICK JAMES: Good for you bud.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I've talked to a couple people, but most notably like Anthony Mann. You know, we talk to him all the time. and He says that... the You know, you're you're just absolutely killing it. Like, you're just starting to really blow up now. So good for you, dude.
loulandscape20: Yeah, thank you. Thank you
The SnowJobs Podcast: That's awesome. Yeah, I remember talking to you last year and I just said, hey, dude. Come over and sit with us. Like, this is why. This is why you're here. This is where you're going to get, you know, networking with these guys is where you're going to get the most out of these events. And you came over and I think you had one of your guys with you.
The SnowJobs Podcast: And you guys came over and sat down. and You didn't say much, but you you absorbed a lot, I'm sure.
loulandscape20: We took in a lot of information and and we met a lot of people.
RICK JAMES: ah
loulandscape20: and yeah we just literally i just grew from the sns no show last year

The SnowJobs Podcast: Good. Did you always love snow, or was snow always the thing you loved to do the most, or did you love other parts?
loulandscape20: I mean... Growing up with the kids, snow is my favorite season. Winter is my favorite season.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yeah.
loulandscape20: i Just in my blood.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I hear you. I hear you. That's cool.
RICK JAMES: So how did you get into this? So, you know, mowing and doing all these other things, you just wanted to start your own business and get after it or?
loulandscape20: Yeah, I mean... Um, my My grandfather just passed a couple months ago, but...
The SnowJobs Podcast: Oh, sorry.
loulandscape20: He was an entrepreneur. He was ah a businessman. um you know I always, you know growing up as a little kid, Always hung out with them. you know, He always taught me stuff and um a lot of hands -on outdoors. um really you know that's where i really got my work ethic from and he really taught me how to do everything and You know, if he could run his own business. I could do the same thing. So here I am.
The SnowJobs Podcast: and I'm assuming he was he was Italian?
RICK JAMES: That's awesome.
loulandscape20: Oh yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Dude, where it's the same story.
RICK JAMES: yeah
The SnowJobs Podcast: like It was the same for me. I learned everything I learned how to do with my hands from my grandfather, from my Italian grandfather. like Where would we be without Italian grandfathers?
loulandscape20: Exactly. Exactly. Old school way.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Absolutely. Absolutely. The only thing I always used to tell him was. Dude, there's gotta be a... an easier way a more efficient way of doing this like they were very proud that generation of doing it the hard way and still getting it done.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Like, no frills.
loulandscape20: Yep.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Like, we don't need any creature comforts.
RICK JAMES: Yeah.
The SnowJobs Podcast: You know, you know we if we need to break brick, we're going to do it with our bare hands. Like, forget the saw, you know?
loulandscape20: Exactly. Right.
RICK JAMES: ah
loulandscape20: Get the chisel.
RICK JAMES: Ugh.
The SnowJobs Podcast: it's so funny that it's it's so true though i mean thank god for italian grandfathers because i I owe a lot of... of what I've learned how to do in my life, not just with the business.
The SnowJobs Podcast: But a lot of just... basic stuff from my grandfather so that's uh that's that's pretty cool that you're the same way That's awesome. So Moscow, how far is Moscow from S and &S?
loulandscape20: Maybe. 15 minutes, 10 minutes.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
loulandscape20: Right down the road.
The SnowJobs Podcast: So you're you're basically in that so Tell us about that market for snow as far as what types of storms you get, your annual snowfall, shit like that.
RICK JAMES: Yeah.
loulandscape20: I mean, we get a lot, you know, obviously, we we're like, Moscow's like one of the higher elevations. tony from sns his warehouse that he plows is literally two minutes down the road from my shop
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
loulandscape20: And it's just like, this just little. area this like five mile circle just gets pounded with snow just gets pounded with snow with little flipper storms that drop an inch or five inches
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yup.
loulandscape20: or big storms that drop like two feet. Like it just, it's a crazy pocket where it just snows always.
The SnowJobs Podcast: I know all about that. I love it. it's It's very fun.
loulandscape20: So...
The SnowJobs Podcast: Does that drive you crazy that Tony's... literally plowing like so close to your shop you sound territorial
loulandscape20: All right. It is. It kind of is a little bit. he and we We pass behind this horn, you know, like, hey! when he drives by as far as you know.

RICK JAMES: What?
The SnowJobs Podcast: What's your bread -and -butter sights?
loulandscape20: I mean, we have so many. I mean, we probably have about... 250 accounts. For just snow.
The SnowJobs Podcast: wow
loulandscape20: I mean that's residential and commercial. I mean this year will probably hit.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
loulandscape20: This year will probably be around 300 accounts. for for snow plowing.
RICK JAMES: Wow.
loulandscape20: And. stuff so
The SnowJobs Podcast: All gas, no brakes, all safeties removed.
loulandscape20: yeah Exactly. exactly
The SnowJobs Podcast: Ha ha.
RICK JAMES: So you're doing residentials as well as commercial?
loulandscape20: Yeah, so we do residential. We strictly do residential in the Moscow area. um We're our main... hub is our main location That's where our you know the our biggest team is.
loulandscape20: And we can just. Do more. in this small area just because we're here.

loulandscape20: It's just boom boom boom. next to the next to the next. There's no... Travel time is just... E -Fashion

RICK JAMES: So what are you doing in your residentials with? what You got inverteds or what are you?
loulandscape20: Um. So... Well, we we've been doing our, like last year we did our residentials with our loader. We had John Deere 304, which we will. We won't be going back to.
The SnowJobs Podcast: No?
loulandscape20: Um, No, no, we're we're not doing John Deere no more.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
loulandscape20: um And then um we have. Obviously, tons of snow throwers and snow blowers. We have Ventrac Sidewalk Machine. It goes up and down sidewalks, and then we have our pickup trucks.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
The SnowJobs Podcast: okay gotcha
RICK JAMES: Gotcha.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Very cool. very cool
RICK JAMES: What do you do for your residential? Do you do like seasonal contracts or how are you working them?
loulandscape20: Uh, Per time.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Part -time.
RICK JAMES: Her time.
loulandscape20: Yeah, I was thinking about doing seasonal, but... I don't know Per time, I make out good with per time, so.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Do you guys have a lot of... deviation there in the snow you get from year to year because you're in that pocket it's pretty you know like oh you're you're good for whatever total you normally get you're good for that every year
loulandscape20: Yeah, we're pretty much good for it. i mean
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
loulandscape20: I want to say we do residentials maybe. 12 to 15 times a year.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
loulandscape20: Well, you know we have ah for for our residentials, we have a two -inch minimum.
RICK JAMES: Well,
The SnowJobs Podcast: Gotcha.
loulandscape20: So.
RICK JAMES: Cut. What kind of snow do you get out in Moscow? What's what's your average?
loulandscape20: It all depends. Last year, I think we got... you know, it was one of our highest years like we had like 60 some inches
The SnowJobs Podcast: okay
loulandscape20: 70 inches.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
loulandscape20: we were like We had a big year last year. Um, what probably The most no. Ever. Most knowing inches is ever in my business. and but when I've been in business, so.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Very cool. cool
RICK JAMES: You can get like, what, two to four drops? Are they heavier drops? Or what's the average drops?
loulandscape20: It all depends. I mean, we usually get a lot of two to five inch snowstorms.
The SnowJobs Podcast: okay
loulandscape20: You know, some quick movers, some that last long.
RICK JAMES: Okay.
loulandscape20: you know We also get a lot.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Where it's raining in the valley.
loulandscape20: Rain in the valley, snow on the mountain.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Yep.

loulandscape20: Exactly. And having the lower drive to... Every business is just so. efficient and it really really boosts our efficiency. efficiency level last year.

loulandscape20: I mean definitely our quality of work and our equipment.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Okay.
loulandscape20: And switching to Brian. was huge last year. and um just upgrading to, you know, literally. the one the one year i went from You know, I plowed all winter in a skid steer.
loulandscape20: And then, boom, last year we brought in a loader, and boom. It just. increased our... our efficiency by so much and like i won't go back to applying with a skidster ever again And the brine just completely changed our our business.
loulandscape20: And one day I hope to be, you know, fully all Brian. and never use a ah spreader a tailgate spreader ever again
The SnowJobs Podcast: So for the other younger guys out there that are considering going to Bryan and stuff and they're looking into pricing and the stuff ain't cheap.

The SnowJobs Podcast: All right, we're back. So... Let's continue with Louie. Jeremy. ah We are... We're... Fresh off SNS, our Pennsylvania swing. We did the, I did. Storch Plow Tech School on Wednesday, and then I headed out to meet Jeremy at SNS.
The SnowJobs Podcast: ah we had ah We had a very good time with the boys. Out there, we had a... A different crew than we normally have, but it was still a lot of fun. But Wednesday, I'll just touch on Storks.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Plow Tech School that they did. They do it every year. ah If you have Douglas Dynamic products, Plows, spreaders. um This is an excellent, like... I don't know if there's a better class out there you could take, a better.
The SnowJobs Podcast: investment of your time for eight hours. um to go to this school. The amount of knowledge, and we said Storch has 40 years in the industry. um They don't change people.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Very often. Like, it's the same people. Every year, year after year, they're a big family at Storks, which means that they've seen the evolutions of all these Douglas products. They know.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Where the... Where the normal... breakdowns are, where the bugs are. and they give you the benefit of all those years of knowledge at that class. I think they charge like $140 for it.
The SnowJobs Podcast: That is the biggest bargain. in the game that I've seen. Because just the book they give you, it's like a 300 -page book with every diagram of every... electrical wiring diagram, hydraulic diagram.
The SnowJobs Podcast: for every plow and spreader that Western and Douglas make. That is worth... Probably. You could probably put a price tag of a couple thousand dollars. uh over a couple years time with what money you can save by not having to bring your plower spreader in to get it fixed if something simple goes wrong with it Uh, I highly recommend it. The fact that it sold out now two years in a row means that it is very valuable. People are learning about it.
The SnowJobs Podcast: Uh, And Gene was going to do a second day. They decided that it just was not in the cards. They could not make it work with scheduling. this year. So next year when they announce it, make sure you get your ticket and get it early.

The SnowJobs Podcast: But it's a great day. phenomenal. They had Mission Barbecue Cater lunch. Oh, my goodness. That was... ah I love mission barbecue.

The SnowJobs Podcast: It was the... I didn't know they had mountains that big in Pennsylvania. ah It was... You were looking down thousands of feet on a sheer cliff with a... Flimsy little guardrail.
The SnowJobs Podcast: the ah The two -lane road couldn't have been more than 13 feet wide. Period. So I don't know if they're riding bicycles or... or quads down those roads, but they ain't built for two cars passing each other, that's for sure.
The SnowJobs Podcast: But yeah, it was a lot of fun. We got there. Checked into the hotel, went out to dinner. with ah we met some ah We met Anthony Mann, obviously. He's in the area, so if we're in the area, we always give Anthony a tickle there.
The SnowJobs Podcast: meet up with him then uh Mike Maglino joined us, and we also had Sterling Lowe. from Indusco down in Maryland. He was in town for S and &S. So we had a nice dinner.
