Well, the rationale is, according to Aifab and every referee I've spoken to, that because Manet had his arms inside of his body and he was protecting his face in terms of as a reflex, because the ball came at a high speed, then it's not considered to be a foul or an infringement, the handball infringement. And apparently, from what I've understood and everyone's spoken to, the distance isn't important. It's about how quickly the ball was hurled at his face.

Personally, I think this is ridiculous. It should have been a penalty and that the law needs to be changed and that they need to be clarified because it was more of a volleyball than a football action that Manet did. But it is what it is, inter-earth through.
