Should Juventus prioritize Galena and Nico Gonzalez over Koopmeiners?

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Italian football podcast. Next question, Daniel Youngstrom says, hi fellas, should Juventus drop the cup miners interest and focus on signing both Galena and Nico Gonzalez instead?

Juventus' winger dilemma

00:00:14
Speaker
I get the cup miners has been our main target this summer. We look so thin on the wings. As of now, we only have yieldies and VAR as options. Maybe we better to take an L on coupe and use yieldies as a triquetista and get wingers capable of scoring goals and provide assists.

Transfer market dynamics

00:00:29
Speaker
Did you make that?
00:00:30
Speaker
Um, well, I think my understanding now, obviously recording this on Monday, so this could change by Wednesday because transfer market things change so quickly, uh, is that, that it's kind

Juventus' attacking woes

00:00:42
Speaker
of a moot point. So I think Juventus will close their deal for coop miners. Um, but there's no doubt about it. Um, I watched the F letting go Madrid friendly. Juventus have no goals in their team, their attack is, is, is, there's no, there's just no firepower.
00:00:59
Speaker
in attack, even though I think that the midfield is already starting to shape up well, the patterns of play, ah the control of the game, Motters already, you can see that already. The problem is, is once they get into the final third, there's just nothing. and There's nothing on the right wing at all. I mean, Tim Timothy Way is not an Juventus Rebel player. He's going into the season as the first choice right winger.
00:01:21
Speaker
and As the only right winger actually and then on the left you've got Yildiz who's obviously a big talent He's 19 years old and and he's and he's you know, he's not ready to be a consistent ah performer week after week and then Wlawicz is a complete disaster in preseason ah horrendous and Motta has one hell of a job trying to trying to get a you know, get a top player or get any kind of quality out of him at the moment because he's just been awful in pre-season.

Funding for wide attackers: A big question

00:01:50
Speaker
And so they need, they need at least two wingers. It looks like Nico Gonzalez, they're getting closing in on him and they definitely need at least another wide attacker. And then there's Koop miners, which I think will be done that the question is going to be,
00:02:10
Speaker
money, you know, how can they, can they get the money required to get all these players in? um And then of course, there's the centre back because they missed out on Todibo, which was a big failure from Junzli, let's be honest, he's flocked there in the centre back, they've missed out on their first target, Califuri, they missed out on their second target, Todibo, and there's now no centre backs available on the market that are of the level needed.

Defensive concerns and decisions

00:02:38
Speaker
and so you know and the defence is making mistakes they made the you know because it's not really at the level required. so I think the Juventus will go into the season with a strong midfield, but they're missing in a defender, a centre-back at least, and they there's just no firepower and attack. so there's a lot as we said As I said on the preview show last week, Juntoli has a lot of work to do to get this Juventus team into shape. ah And I think that the decision to sell Sulay might come back to bite because you only sell Sulay if you're if you can guarantee bringing in coop miners and that and that centre back and also bring in wingers that are good enough to replace him. You sell him for such a low price, and then you don't bring in those players anyway, and why then why they why are you selling him? So I still think the Sulay was could potentially be a mistake. But
00:03:29
Speaker
We have to see and the maths and how Juntley manages to work things around for the loss ah last, ah well, just over two weeks of the window.

Central defender search challenges

00:03:41
Speaker
bremer gati rugani jalo That's not good enough defensively, as central defenders. Jell-O is going to be sold. He's on the market. and Yeah, but they need to buy someone. Yeah. like no and there's No, there's no top options available now. Now they've missed out on Toddy Bowe. That's it. There's no one else around. There's no one available now. They're going to have to go for ah second level players or, I mean, listen, in a way, I think that Juventus, midfield, central midfield is going to be very strong and that the way that Mota's teams play, um that that will limit
00:04:15
Speaker
limit the, that will mask the defense a little bit to an extent.

Midfield strength vs. scoring issues

00:04:20
Speaker
I think it will. um But at the end of the day, you've got to also have the attackers that can score the goals. um Because at the moment, Juventus have no goals in them. They haven't scored a goal from open play in pre-season. They've scored a penalty and that's it. There's no goals in this team.
00:04:36
Speaker
at all. That is the biggest concern because there's no good having a great midfield and being able to control the game, control the game, dominate the ball. You've got nothing can attack because you haven't got the players then, then, then you've got a big, big problem. Um, so that this is the, for me, that's an even bigger issue than the defense right now. Cause I think the midfield will, will be so strong that it will, um, now even a bit like Spain, like I don't think Spain had a very good defense at all. And the euros on paper personally, but their midfield was so strong.
00:05:06
Speaker
And then obviously they had the firepower and attack which events won't have but their midfield was so strong that the the defense rarely got got tested really um so a lot of work to do for drink today a lot of work, but I would sign keep miners Yeah, I would sign keep miners because then you've completed that midfield and and then you you can build from that going forward hmm No, you can.

Nico Gonzalez signing and Vlahović concerns

00:05:31
Speaker
If they get Nico Gonzalez with Yildis there, um and if they get Koop miners, then, and and I think De Gregorio is a decent goalkeeper. No, I think then they're they're kind of fixed, the midfield and wing position. The central defence is the problem, and Wlawicz, who's looking like, what is going on? Yeah.
00:05:55
Speaker
I mean, you know, we've had this discussion before, if we were all fooled by Vlawic, maybe he wasn't as good as we thought he was. But then again, I'm not entirely sure of that either, because I do think there's a player there. But I think it's a mental block with him. What happens with Kiesa? No, I, you know, there's still three weeks left, but ah two, three weeks left, but No, it's not been a dream Mercato Fujuntoli at all so far.

Critique of transfer strategies and budget

00:06:29
Speaker
Losing Aaron Calafiori, losing Aaron Toribol, it's not been good. I and i understand the criticisms to him. Maybe he underestimated the sheer amount of work that needed to be done.
00:06:44
Speaker
Yeah, and and there was so much work to do that it's unrealistic to think you can solve that in one window, which is maybe he tried to do too much one window, I think, which is why I wouldn't have sold a solo, which is why I wouldn't have signed de Gregorio. I said that right from the start. You're paying 20 million for de Gregorio using up a budget, which which wasn't a priority position. You needed you needed that cash.
00:07:09
Speaker
for for other positions, keep Schezny for a one more year till the end of his contract. Sign de Gregorio next summer. Or if you want to sign de Gregorio, book it now. Make the signing now, but the money doesn't come out. Let him stay at Monza for another season. Let the money come out in a year's time. Don't you don't spend that money now. That money, 20 million, and they haven't even sold Schezny either. They're struggling to find, they can't even find a buy for him because his wages are too high.
00:07:33
Speaker
um You know, Chesney's good enough with his feet that he could have done a job for a year. And then, you know, that for me, that was, I said that right from day one. um For me, that was a, that was a, that was a, they should have waited. They should have waited a year for for that. That wasn't, that wasn't a ah priority position. The other, the the attack and the the defense and what on the midfield, but they've solved the midfield. You know, that money should have been used to strengthen other areas of the pitch.
00:08:00
Speaker
um but we'll see we'll see what you can do but he's uh it's going to be difficult now not not enough time left
