Introduction to Italian Football

00:00:02
Speaker
Welcome to the Italian football podcast.

Parisi's Rise and Skills

00:00:21
Speaker
He broke through at a velina first and i knew about this guy a few years ago cuz that's where my family's family are from and parisie was a was a huge fan favorite at at a velina and he's they call him the pen he'll pendulino decently no yeah yeah.
00:00:37
Speaker
Yeah, he's up and down that left-hand side and he's irregularly at the 21 national team and Roberto Mancini has been following him closely as well. Mancini was actually at the game to watch MP against Monza to watch him.

Defensive Prowess and Metrics

00:00:57
Speaker
and he could even receive a call up for the next Euro 2024 qualifies. I think he's not far off. I know Italy has got a lot of promising young left backs at the moment, DiMarco, Paddy, you see.
00:01:13
Speaker
Udoji, probably missing someone as well. Cambiaso, there's a lot of good up and coming left backs right now. But I think he has all the qualities, the raw qualities to become a top left back. He's an excellent dribbler. I've been looking up his stats. He's the fourth in Serie A this season for successful dribbles. And that's all players of all positions. So he's coming from a left back. That's very, very impressive.
00:01:39
Speaker
He's very quick. He's up and down the left flank. He's got a lot of intensity. He's a modern fullback. But he's also, unlike many modern fullbacks, he's also very, very good defensively. And if you look at his stats, his underlying metrics, he's right up there for a lot of the key metrics when it comes to defensive metrics. And he's second in Serie A among fullbacks for ball recoveries behind Adam Marisic.
00:02:08
Speaker
of Lazio. He also is the second for ball recoveries in the opposition half. So I mean, I don't heavily play that way, but it also shows his ability to press into the opposition half and win the ball high up. He's third in Serie A among fullbacks for challenges. He's a competitive player. He's third in Serie A among fullbacks for tackles.

Transfer Interests and Potential Moves

00:02:30
Speaker
So he gets stuck in, he puts challenges in. He reads the game well because he's third in Serie A among fullbacks for interceptions.
00:02:38
Speaker
I wouldn't say he has a massive goal for it, but he does have a goal for it. He scored twice a season because he does get forward. I think this is a very promising player. He's been linked to a lot of Premier League clubs. There's Premier League interest in him.
00:02:52
Speaker
and also some Serie A teams. Napoli have been linked to him and talking from Juventus' point of view of need in a left back, I think Juventus could certainly do with somebody like Parisi. He's a player that I'm very excited to see how he develops in the next few years.
00:03:14
Speaker
very, very promising player. I really like him. I really, really like him. I think he's technical. He's a modern fullback. I like his crossing. I like that he can dribble. He can beat his man. And I think he's got pretty much all the raw qualities. Everything needed to be a top left back, whether it's a wing back or a
00:03:34
Speaker
or a left back in a four, is something that I think will make him... He has everything there to become a top player, for sure. And I think with Inter struggling a little bit on that position, unless they find a right wing back, they can do that.
00:03:56
Speaker
You know, they've got DiMarco, who's more of a brilliant crossover count. You know, he's not a dribbler or can beat his man. But Parisi would be an option, even though I think Gossens has been great, but he's not exactly getting any younger

Highlighting Other Players

00:04:07
Speaker
Gossens. So if there's a possibility to sell Robin Gossens and bring in Parisi, I would, I would love him. I think that I think it's absolutely... Don't get greedy now, never.
00:04:15
Speaker
No, I'm not getting greedy. You cannot say I've gotten greedy when I've got Denzel Dumfries, the human meme on right-wing back. Don't get greedy at left, Bosnian. No, no, standing there. He looks literally like... Jeko is a class player, but he's 37, he's going on 38, and his turns are exactly like that cartoon, Zootropolis, when they're going to the... You can't go in there without ripping on...
00:04:42
Speaker
And it's like, you know, at the Department of Motor Vehicles and the sloths and how slowly they move. That is how Jeko turns. It's genuinely painful, but it is

Empoli's Talent Factory

00:04:55
Speaker
what it is. Another impressive young player coming through at Empoli, because it's such a good record. And we know about Vicario, who you are looking at, apparently. You were looking at Vicario and Roma. Yeah.
00:05:06
Speaker
Yeah we'll have to do a profile on Vicario as well because I think him and I think Balparizzi and Vicario this summer, I think both of them will leave. Well Paul is on Italy. The Empoli coach has been very honest about it. He's basically saying that we're counting on losing Parisi

Italy's Left Back Talent Pool

00:05:22
Speaker
this summer. He's been very open about that and that's why he's played Cacace and says that he's the future of Empoli. He's been very open about it. It's also Italy producing so many good left backs at the moment. It's strange isn't it how
00:05:34
Speaker
goes in cycles, doesn't it? Like some positions, there's just nothing like in the number nine position and the attack. I mean, they're in such a crisis in the attack that they're actually looking to the Romanian league and the Argentine league or they look at an Argentinian player who I'd be honest, I hadn't even heard of until this morning. And I've already forgotten his name. They're looking to call up players from South America and from the Romanian league.
00:06:02
Speaker
I mean, that is horrendous. Whereas a left back, they've got, you know, three or four that look like they can become top top left backs.
00:06:12
Speaker
For me, still, Udoji is the raw talent that he has, his head and shoulders above everyone else. But it remains to be seen. He's in a critical, you know, it's important that he... Sometimes it's how you fit into the system as well, isn't it? I think what I like about Parisi is he looks like a player that I reckon could be adaptable to any system. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed 100%. But it's going to be... As Udoji, like...
00:06:39
Speaker
Can he play in a back four? We don't know. He's never played there. And also, going to Spurs and playing under Pochettino. That's it. How would he do if they go to a back four at Tottenham? But then I guess if he wants a career in the Italy national team, he has to play there. That's probably why he hasn't been called up for Italy so far. I think because of that.
