Ep: 53 - Season 1 Finale: Becoming the Person We Envision

What's My Age Again?
Avatar
1 Playsin 3 hours

Today marks the final episode of Season 1, and we're taking a moment to look back at where it all began.

In Episode 1, we asked a powerful question: Who do you see as your future self, and what are you doing today to become her?

Over the past year of podcasting together, we've explored that question from many different angles. Again and again, we've come back to one important truth: our daily habits shape our future. The small choices we make consistently are what ultimately define who we become.

As we close out this season, we encourage you to reflect on your own journey. How have you grown? What habits have you strengthened? And how much closer are you to becoming the person you envision for yourself?

Most importantly, thank you. Thank you for listening, sharing, engaging, and helping us build such an incredible community throughout Season 1. Your support, stories, and encouragement have made this journey truly special.

We're excited for what's ahead.

Stay tuned for Season 2, and keep in touch with us on social media. If you haven't followed us already, we'd love to connect with you there and continue the conversation between episodes.

Thank you for being part of Season 1. We can't wait to continue growing together in Season 2!

00:00:39
Speaker
Backed by research and real life, we're here to share what actually works, what's a waste of time, and how to truly thrive through the messy, magical midlife transition.
00:00:49
Speaker
We're so happy you're here. Let's dive in. Hi everyone, welcome back to What's My Age Again. This is episode number 53, which means, Tanya, we have been recording this beautiful podcast, What's My Age Again, for one year.

Podcast Intentions and Community Gratitude

00:01:08
Speaker
So happy anniversary. Happy anniversary. um And I'm going to say it. I am super proud of us. One year of consistency in podcasting. Sometimes it wasn't always easy to push one out every single week because as we know um in life and we talk about a lot on the podcast,
00:01:31
Speaker
Life happens. Life is busy. There's so much going on. But we actually did it. We remained consistent. And here we are. And it feels like it's been even maybe a little longer because we, you know, it's no lie that we talked about having this podcast for quite some time and, you know, before it actually birthed out and we started it with episode one, one year ago.

Listener Engagement and Self-Improvement

00:01:52
Speaker
I know. it's And I'm proud of us. i mean, our intention behind this podcast was to use our voices, to bring knowledge free to all of you listening, um to talk about things that were important to us, to our clients, to you, the What's My Age Again podcast community. We loved having conversations with you all this year and to sort of cut through the noise and bring honesty with a little bit of humor um week after week. So Tanya, I am proud of us for our consistency, which we talk about all the time on the podcast, consistency um week after week. so
00:02:32
Speaker
consistency over perfection. Exactly. We might not always be perfect. There might be some doorbells or some sneezing in the background. You know, we're, we're doing our best, but you know, that consistency piece and aside from having feeling proud is also, I think you share this as well, Kim is feeling really grateful, um, to have built a loyal community who listened to us week after week. Right. And that makes me feel really good from clients to people that, you know, are new on our DMS and who have just found the podcast.

Prioritizing Self-Care and Future Vision

00:03:10
Speaker
It's so nice to have had feedback and to know that we are making a difference. Cause that again, that intention was so, so important to us starting with episode one and kind of why we launched the podcast and the premise of the podcast was kind of to talk to women about now being our time and if not now, when? Because life is going by really fast and how do we want to be when we are in our 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s? If you aren't already there, ladies, you know, what we see our future selves as.
00:03:50
Speaker
Totally. So much there that you just said, Tanya. First, to touch on the gratitude, I as well feel so much gratitude for all of you listening. Tanya and I, when we first started, the intention was really to use our voices, as I said. And we always say, if we could reach one person and give them inspiration or help them to change their diet and lifestyle and self for the better,
00:04:14
Speaker
this would be a win for us. And so the fact that so many of you reach out has been such an honor. And I am so grateful to all of you who listen week after week. And what Tanya said, the second thing that you said, Tanya, when it's, I agree, I feel like this, it has come full circle, right? If we think back to that first episode, when we were talking about, okay, ladies, now is your time, if not now, when? and the encouragement to, you know as we we've talked about it in many of the podcasts, of how we as women are nurturers. We focus on everybody else's needs, work commitments, our kids, our aging parents, our friends, our communities.

Reflections on Growth and Inspiration

00:04:57
Speaker
But so often we forget what our symptoms, our body, our our nervous system is communicating with us and asking for and telling us. So, you know, we hope this year as you've been listening to episodes, there have been things that you've put in place. to when, you know, as the first episode, identify who you want to be as your future self. And then throughout listening to the podcast, start putting things in place to help you move toward becoming her, to toward becoming that future self that you aspire to be.
00:05:32
Speaker
Right. And I think in the first episode, We had a candid conversation about like what it is that a lot of us are probably hoping for our future selves. And I remember actually saying this line and thinking, nobody, I don't think, and I think I said, I don't think, so I don't, I don't want to generalize here, but nobody, I don't think it's saying, I hope my future self is weak.
00:05:57
Speaker
is stuck in a bed somewhere, can't do things for myself, is existing and not really enjoying life. And for me, that was like such a powerful image. It still is that I carry with me, you know, in my day to day and even on our week to week podcast, when we're talking about symptoms and things that are changing with our bodies and lifestyle pieces that are so important to longevity.
00:06:20
Speaker
I think that when most of us listen to that first episode and and kind of sat with it and closed our eyes or just kind of looked off into space, We saw women who were vibrant, who were self-sufficient, who were still doing the things that they enjoyed, and that felt vital and happy. And then today, i don't really get the whole year thing. We're episode 53, but like 53 weeks later, I guess there's a little bonus episode. I don't know how this works, but- No, we started on the 23rd. So this episode is coming out the 24th June. And so it will be one year from that start.
00:07:00
Speaker
But why? Side note. Isn't there 52 weeks in a year? Anyways, if anybody knows, please write us down and

Consistency in Self-Care Practices

00:07:10
Speaker
explain that. But you're right. We launched exactly. Episode one started at day zero. That's why, Tanya.
00:07:18
Speaker
Girl math, Kim. Okay, then absolutely. So in one exact year, thinking again, when we talk about our future self, in all honesty, and learning and discussing all of the things we have done, you know, in the last 53, 52 weeks, can you sit down now as we reflect together and say that you have put...
00:07:46
Speaker
consistency, you have changed things, tweaked things to kind of reach that future ideal self. um And again, it's not about perfection, but can you say, even in a small way, or maybe in a big way, which would be amazing, but you know, life is crazy, that you have made a little bit of space for my time is now mentality because our worry is it's never going to get more quiet. Kim, you said it's so good in one episode. I don't know what it is. There's always going to be something, you know, right now my kids are in this and that, and then all of a sudden they're going to be in teenage years. They're going to be in this and that. And all of a sudden you blink your eye and you haven't put yourself first in 12 years. Yeah.
00:08:29
Speaker
Totally. You had a beautiful client. I remember after this episode, reach out and send a picture of her and her toddlers. I think she was she was doing a workout session in the morning at like 5.30 or 6 a.m. and her toddlers were crawling all over her.
00:08:43
Speaker
And we both said like those toddlers are going to become... you know, teens and there might be an ice hockey practice in the morning at five. Like it's not, it's, it's life will change, but it won't necessarily become easier. So the, the ability to, you know, prioritize yourself now and using that don't, not using things as excuses from our excuses episode, you know doing the thing to support yourself now and finding space and time for yourself is so important to becoming that future self. And I love what you said,

Adapting Self-Care to Life Changes

00:09:22
Speaker
Tanya. Let's all reflect. For those of you who haven't listened to episode one, go back and listen to it.
00:09:28
Speaker
um And then start envisioning your future self and then reflect what have you been doing to lead yourself to become her. If you visualize yourself hiking ah mountains at 80 years old, are you doing that now?
00:09:45
Speaker
are you putting are Are you putting things in place to help you become you know that strong woman that you aspire to become? Because if not, how are you going to become her?
00:09:58
Speaker
I love, again, so much. These are my favorite episodes, these conversationals. First off, back to my client, who is an avid listener. And she is definitely, I can say, if she's reflecting over this last year, she has killed it. So to, you know what I mean? She really took that to heart to know that things are going to shift and it's that consistency piece. um And also, aside from that as well is,
00:10:24
Speaker
the the whole thing of time, you're right. How can we have a goal in the future to be able to, you know, let's you take your example of hiking these mountains, if we're not able to do those things now, right? And I look for at myself, as we sit here and chat, and chat about this. And I'm like, I know what my future self looks like.
00:10:46
Speaker
What have I done this year? Because this year has flown by, I'm sure, like everybody just like like every year, blink of an eye. You're right. Like every year. And this was the whole point. We don't want us to be saying anymore. Next year, I'll start this next year. I'll start this in January. The whole point was we need to start today with something small. So for me, the last year has been a lot of lower back BS. And also, can we shout out that in this whole time? I've not sworn once. Do you know how hard that is?
00:11:19
Speaker
I know how hard that is for you. So my back has been b s and yeah we want Sorry, just we have not edited one single podcast. We start to finish record and it is what it is. So that's, a yeah, anyway, go on. You're back. i'm yeah Associated.
00:11:39
Speaker
This is consistency over perfection. And now that we're having this wrap up chat, you know, on the one year mark, now you're going to see what a day in the life of a convo is with me and Kim with all these carry on. Oh no, now you carry on. So, you know, it's a girl chat. And now going to say, what was I saying? Yes, I remember. back the back. And for me, that's been a really big issue because sometimes it doesn't allow me to be consistent with my strength training because my back is so strained that I can't do that leg workout or that arm workout. So that really got me thinking, I, you know, I'm going to turn 46 this year and I have all these goals for my future self, but I, I'm, I'm stunted. And I realized that I had to change So I was doing things the same way and having to restart. Now I've completely revamped my workout. I use a completely different program. It is made by a physiotherapist. It is designed for, to learn body awareness, even talking back to our beautiful guest about pelvic floor, understanding how stacking pelvic floor will keep, you know, weight off of where it shouldn't be. And all of this to say,
00:12:48
Speaker
That's my one consistency that I can say that I have done. And it might not be a zillion things to get me there, but it's the one consistent piece that I've had along with, of course, other things enlightenment from our podcasts, our conversations.
00:13:02
Speaker
And I'm proud that I have made that time to pivot. And I do see it working towards, you know, my future self. It doesn't have to be a complete switch of your whole entire life, right? It's taking little pieces, seeing what isn't working, taking the tidbits of knowledge here,

Self-Examination and Celebrating Progress

00:13:18
Speaker
and actually utilizing them in a way that supports our own body and our goals.
00:13:23
Speaker
For sure, Tanya. And I think the way to think about this too is that there are different seasons in our life, right? We talk about the hormonal shifts that were going on right now. You know, there's there's there was a time where I had severe insomnia because and I had to dive deep into hormones. And So each of these seasons can come with taking care of yourself in a different way, but it doesn't affect the consistency of those foundational things that we are constantly talking about. The need to move our body daily.
00:14:00
Speaker
It just might look different. What does daily movement look like? Sometimes once you're healed, Tanya, once that back is better, it's going to look like pushing yourself further. Doing a lot more resistance training, doing a lot more work with weights, weight training, because you can handle it. But right now, that daily movement might look more restorative and supportive alongside with your physiotherapist. For me, when I was having insomnia...
00:14:26
Speaker
that My sleep habits, my diet habits, my lifestyle habits were different than they are now because that was the season that I was in. But what the consistency piece is that we're focusing on our diet, that we're focusing on our nervous system, we're focusing on movement and sleep, those foundational things.
00:14:44
Speaker
And I think this is such a good point talking about seasons. You're right. Here's another way to look at seasons. For anybody who's listening to this conversation again and saying, well, this is really, you know,
00:14:56
Speaker
Great, but you don't understand. i have no time from the morning I wake up and go to bed, to which I'm going to say you do. And seasons mean consistency in one season when there's more space means your daily movement might be an hour-long walk with the dog in the morning.
00:15:14
Speaker
In a season where you are like, I am so stressed out, I have no space, your consistency movement might look like 10 minutes of yoga in the morning,
00:15:25
Speaker
a on your 20 minute lunch and some stretching before bed. And before someone says, I don't have time for that. Well, if you're not taking a lunch, that's a whole other episode that you need to go and listen to. and you have time. We're all scrolling for even five or 10 minutes a day. So in a world where that we're so busy, that season of movement or sleep or diet might look slightly different than it does in another season. But like you said, Kim, it needs to be in there as consistency. That's so important.
00:15:58
Speaker
Absolutely. Absolutely. And so i hope that as you're reflecting right now on what we're talking about, you can look back and say, Yeah, I did start putting myself to bed at a consistent time every night. Yeah, I did start supporting my nervous system in small ways by doing the breathing techniques we talked about or feet up the wall or whatever. You did take pieces from these conversations that we'll be having and implement them into your life. And if you think about it, because sometimes we don't do that, right? We don't reflect and actually think about all the work that we've put in. And I think, you know, as you're thinking about this, congratulate yourself.
00:16:42
Speaker
If there are pieces that you have now been consistent with and put into your daily life, congratulate yourself for that because that takes so much work. A thousand percent. And you've always said that most of the time we skip out on the celebrations and you're right. And then something comes to example from, to mind for me in a personal conversation I had the other day with a friend who took a step towards a bigger step. And she said, Oh, she's like, don't worry about celebrating that right now. She's like, I haven't actually done the bigger step.
00:17:13
Speaker
I'm like, but you did the step to get you to the bigger step and you need to stop and you need to celebrate that because that's huge. And that applies To this, what we're talking about as well, anything that you're doing in your life consistently. And if you're like, well, crap, I've been listening to you guys for the full year. I've loved the podcast. You guys are brilliant. And we're like, oh no, go on. And i'm not I haven't done anything consistent.
00:17:40
Speaker
Well, congratulations. You consistently came here. You listened for the knowledge. You know, you were here for a reason. Today's the day. One year later, we can say today is always the day technically because every day we have the choice or the ability, should it fit in, to add something positive or do a change to our lives. So guess what, everybody? However many weeks ago, one year ago, today is the day. Now is your time. Well, guess what? Today is still the day and now is still your time.
00:18:10
Speaker
Absolutely. I love that, Tanya. There is always a choice.

Podcast Impact and Encouragement

00:18:14
Speaker
There is always a choice to either push that decision, kick the can down the road, or start today. And believe me, if you start today, by this time next year, which we all know goes in a blink of an eye, I cannot believe that it's been one year, next year, your future self is going to thank you for starting.
00:18:36
Speaker
A thousand percent. Like, You'll never regret the good choices that you take towards your health. You'll never be like, darn, I've been eating so well. That is just, I regret this so much. there's You'll never regret going to sleep at a regular time, filling your cup up with people who are amazing for you and things that make you feel alive. You're never going to regret those choices. So be consistent being consistent with them in small ways, it changes everything. And maybe in a year we'll be talking about this again and saying, okay, what next steps have we taken to be that strong future selves that I know we're all picturing right now?
00:19:16
Speaker
Right. And as Tanya, as you said, it's about consistency, not perfection. I know for myself, I think I said it at the beginning of the year or the beginning of this year of podcasting, one of my biggest, you know, one of the things that I wanted to change to become the future self that I would like to become is to support my nervous system.
00:19:35
Speaker
And to be consistent with that. Because I was the yes person. i was the person that just took it all on I raced through my day without taking a deep breath, like what we say to you guys all the time, right? That was the old me And there are still things that I realize like, okay, Kim, you didn't walk the walk today that you taught, you know, and there are still things that I can improve on for sure.
00:20:03
Speaker
But just the intention And the fact that it's become a consistent piece of my life, now I don't have to think about it as much. It just is a habit that I have, that have become entrenched and ingrained in my life. And so although it's not perfect, there are still times where I'm like, okay, you got to step away, Kim. You got to do something to put yourself back into the parasympathetic, as we always talk about here.
00:20:31
Speaker
But it's become a consistent part of my life, which you know, is is the goal. Consistency, not protection perfection. And even that self-examination, that's a great example because I feel like it goes without saying too.
00:20:46
Speaker
ah consistency, not perfection. I still struggle with things quite often. Mine's no mind's less about the nervous system. As you know, I'm pretty good with that. and But it's more with consistency in terms of my diet and the things that, you know what I mean, still like to creep in. The stupid freaking chocolate, cheese, cheese oh know what and chips. The triple C's, right? And there are things too. And we we talk about it where I'm like, Kim, I am a fraud.
00:21:14
Speaker
I'm fraudulent. just had like a bag of chips and it wasn't the avocado oil hard bite. But then I remembered the scale hands and I remember the consistency piece. So me too, but just that self-examination without guilt and with love. So when that happens, you know what I mean? Cause it's inevitable. It does. That's my Achilles heel.
00:21:35
Speaker
I am like, It happens. Why did it happen? Why was I having that stuff? Again, I love the episode we talked about examining why are we going for these certain foods and things like what to fill? Why did I have that bag of chips? Okay. Cause it was Saturday night. I had a bunch of people over. We were cozy having a campfire outside and I really wanted it and I ate it with intention. Cool. But I examined those things. So just the act and of consistently having that self-awareness and tying it to the future self, that's also, you know, something to celebrate as well. Where before maybe our patterns are cycled, not even with not, maybe not even realizing, maybe a bit of shame. Oh my God, why did I overschedule myself again? Like, why can't I do this? Maybe some guilt. Why did I eat these chips? But if we can replace that with the self-examination and awareness and always tie it back to the future self,
00:22:27
Speaker
That's also progress and celebration. And I'd like to say, i am very more aware now since we started this podcast about my patterns and tying them back and using them constructively, you know, to become more consistent in my goals.
00:22:42
Speaker
Oh, for sure. This podcast has been growth for both of us, you know, like my clients, you, and the listeners, and, you know, even for us, it helps keep us motivated to keep going with our own health goals, with our own intentions.

Season 1 Conclusion and Future Plans

00:22:59
Speaker
So 100%.
00:23:00
Speaker
one hundred percent So I hope if you're listening right now, you are celebrating, you know, whatever you have done this past year and put things in place today. to move toward that future you. And as Tanya said, if you've been listening or haven't, if this is your first episode, um you know that you are starting to examine who your future self will will wellbeing and how you are what you are putting in place to become her today. Because right, as you said, today can be the day.
00:23:31
Speaker
We're like, yeah, today, Junior. So also, you side note, wondering, why are these girls talking about like, you know everything's been great a year? Like, are they leaving us forever? Well, we are not. But we are concluding. This is the conclusion of season one, which is absolutely like, again, so exciting. We've already said that, I know. So,
00:23:59
Speaker
To answer your question, are Kim and I leaving you forever? Absolutely not. We are not. But are we pausing between seasons? Yes, absolutely are we are. This feels like such a natural time to take a breath, to reflect, to do a little bit more work on our lives as we grow as well as women also navigating this time. and Yeah, it's just it's some summer, guys. Summer. Summer. Tanya's in a wool sweater and it's raining. Summer, are guys. In Ontario. Everywhere else in Canada. Yep.
00:24:33
Speaker
Even in Ontario, people are like, it's 40 degrees and I'm sweating. But all kidding aside, it's just a nice pause for us and a natural time, I think, because summer we kind of all get out and enjoy that summer fresh weather. out there Absolutely. And guys, this is your opportunity to catch up on all of those 53 episodes.
00:24:55
Speaker
And, you know, we have just had such an amazing time. I think, as Tanya said, we feel like this has come full circle. And so wrapping up a season number one with this episode feels really, really aligned and right for both Tanya and i And we have so many exciting things coming your way.
00:25:15
Speaker
