Libyan-Palestinian author of Under the Copper Covers, Sherine Ben Halim Jafar, on Libyan cuisine and food as therapy in turbulent times; the fair and flaky twist behind the aloo parathas at Khyber Gate in International City, Dubai.
PART 1: LIBYAN CUISINE AND FOOD THERAPY
The author of Under the Copper Covers, Sherin Ben Halim Jafar is of mixed Libyan and Palestinian descent. As the daughter of Mustafa Ben Halim, the Libyan Prime Minister (1954 to 1957) and later adviser during King Idris' rule, she faced exile along with her family after the coup by Muammar Gaddafi. Sherin's story is a turbulent but inspiring one that involves turning to food as her safe space and solace. Her book is available at amazon.com and Kinokuniya, Dubai.
