But I'm not talking about
00:01:00
Speaker
how niching down can actually help your business here in this episode. I'm going to be talking about how niching down actually helps you discovering your own pottery style, your own unique style.
00:01:13
Speaker
Why is this? Because it's the same thing for if you were trying to start a business, the more you niche down, you can focus on those few people that actually want your product, then it's gonna be the same thing for when you were trying to discover your own pottery style as well. The reason is because I did two interviews, one with Emily Bronner and one with Summer Whiteside. Both of them pretty much
00:01:43
Speaker
In a way, they niche down a lot and this helped them not only discover their own way, how they like to make pottery, but also help their business in the long run. And that got me really curious because it's so true that we all are all kind of niching down in our own way.

Steps to Find Your Niche

00:02:04
Speaker
While it may not be about business, we're niching down our pottery to suit our own needs. And when we are able to suit our own needs, that's when we are able to really start making what we want to make and finding our own style. So what are some steps if you are struggling to kind of really niche down and it's really hard to find what you are just kind of wanting to make?
00:02:32
Speaker
One thing that I would do would be I would do a lot of research and I would do a lot of experiments because the more you experiment, the more you're going to be able to find what you like and what you don't like. This is going to allow you to niche now. For example, let's say you are making a mug, but you don't want your mug to look like everybody else's mugs. They have glaze, maybe it drips a little bit, but you don't want it to look like that.
00:03:00
Speaker
One thing that you can do is that you can research other people's mugs. Maybe it's a shape that you like. Maybe you research a technique that you like. And then you start experimenting with things that you like, that you see other people doing. And this will in turn allow you to niche down further and further and further down. Because if you do more research and experiment, the more you're going to be able to really niche down.

Pursuing Passion in Pottery

Another thing that you should
00:03:30
Speaker
probably be doing is that you want to really find just a couple things that are going to really spark your interest. Do things that spark your interest because this is going to really lead to better results. And the more you can niche down with your own style, the more you're going to be able to find something that is unique to you and it soothes your soul.
00:03:56
Speaker
because that is what we want. We don't want to make pottery for somebody else. We do, but we don't at the same time because we want to make pottery that makes us happy. If we're not making pottery that makes us happy, then there is no point in making it. That is why we're in this pottery game because we enjoy making pottery. So we want to express ourselves in our own way. That is how we discover our own niche is by really doing things that we
00:04:26
Speaker
like to do, what we like to do. Like for example with Summer Whiteside, she likes anime and she found a way to make really detailed anime mugs and that became her niche anime mugs because she liked anime and she incorporated it with pottery. So if you do that as well, if you find things that you like and incorporate it into your pottery, you're going to be able to niche down so much
00:04:57
Speaker
I'll tell you an example of what I'm currently trying to be working on. Right now, I want to work on my raccoon but I want to make designs like maybe a bird in my raccoon or maybe a house or a dinosaur or something. I want to make designs that tell a story and that is how I'm niching down my raccoon process.
