Introduction to 'Behind the PFP' Show
00:00:10
Speaker
Hey guys, so I had an idea. I've been trying to think about ways to be more involved in the space.
00:00:18
Speaker
And one of the things that I'm really interested in is getting to know you guys. I spend so much time on crypto Twitter, on Telegram, on Discord, on Reddit, talking to each and every one of you, but we don't really know that much about each other. A lot of us have so many interesting stories to share. You know, we're not the Kobe's or the CZ's of the world, but that doesn't mean we don't have meaningful contributions.
00:00:45
Speaker
to give to others. And I think this is part of the reason why I've really enjoyed talking to people in Twitter spaces lately. So I want to get to know you guys. If you're still here, involved in the space, whether you're an investor, you're a building, whatever it is, I want to know more about you. I think that's very interesting. This crypto journey rabbit hole that I've been on the last couple of years has introduced me to so many fascinating people. And I think the crypto and web free community
00:01:15
Speaker
you know, there's a certain caliber of person is attracted to this community and they're just, they're very intellectual and they make me think and they just vibrate on a higher level. And I want to know more about you. I want to start doing a show and I'm going to call it behind the PFP because I want to know who is that person behind the PFP and it's going to be fine. I want to keep it short, you know, a couple of serious questions, but
00:01:45
Speaker
a little bit of the memes too. So I wanted to give you an example of what a hypothetical show might look like. So I will be interviewing myself. If this is something that you're interested in, then let's have a chat later on. But without further ado, let's get to know me.
Journey into Crypto: 2017 Bull Market
00:02:02
Speaker
How did you first get into crypto? I first got into crypto in 2017 when it's all anyone could talk about.
00:02:12
Speaker
That's all over the news. It was the bull market. It was the mania. I remember that I bought on Coinbase with my credit card. I remember there was a $750 max you could buy at a time and I thought, oh my gosh, this is cool. I can at least get points if this goes to zero. So I bought 50% of Bitcoin and 50% of Litecoin. There was a blow off top and
00:02:37
Speaker
It didn't go to zero, but it went down quite significantly. Every few months I would check my account, see if it was still there, see if my Bitcoin was doing anything. It wasn't. And then fast forward to 2020. That's when I started to do a bit more research and got more involved in the space. Are you full-time crypto? If not, have you thought about it? And how do you balance your crypto, non-crypto work?
Balancing Crypto with a Day Job
00:03:00
Speaker
Great question. I am not full-time crypto. I still have a normal day job, although I did have lots of dreams of quitting in the spring when I was making lots of passive income on my phantom yield farms and my Luna and my anchor protocol. Anyway.
00:03:17
Speaker
I have thought a lot about what a career in web free might look like. I'm trying to figure that out. Meeting people, going to conferences, seeing what part of the industry would interest me. Do I want to be just an investor? Would I want to work?
00:03:31
Speaker
for a protocol, being an advisor, what I want to work for an exchange and have more of that corporate environment that I'm used to, or what I want to work for a hedge fund perhaps. Right now I'm just doing my own thing, which is resulting in me feeling like I'm working two full-time jobs because I have my day job. And then I spent every other waking minute trying to keep up with the news and chatting with you guys. So definitely not healthy. I definitely need to find more of a balance, but I enjoy it and I love it.
00:04:01
Speaker
So I really can't
Dogecoin Success and Lessons Learned
00:04:02
Speaker
help it. My biggest success so far was on Dogecoin. Dogecoin was my first 10X. I bought a little bit before Super Bowl in 2021, like a total retail investor. I heard there was a rumor that there was going to be a commercial before the Super Bowl. So I bought it at 0.69 cents, I remember, for the memes.
00:04:24
Speaker
And then I forgot that I had another limit order. So then that one got filled and I had a sizable bag for me of Dogecoin. It instantly went down a couple of cents. But then two months later, it started to go up. And this is my first green candle crypto experience where it's just like, what is happening?
00:04:42
Speaker
I was good. I actually took profits. I was so upset at the time that I sold quite a bit at 25 cents, but I mean, I shouldn't be upset over three and a half X. And then I sold a bit more at 55 cents and 65 cents. So I made some good money on Dogecoin and I'm still holding a tiny bit. It's actually in a Doge room bowl right now.
00:05:05
Speaker
What is my biggest failure and what lessons have I learned?
Navigating Financial Losses in Crypto
00:05:09
Speaker
Oh my god, I can't believe I'm supposed to pick one. You know, my biggest failure, you know, financially was definitely my exposure to Luna and USD. But in a bigger sense, I would say it's definitely getting caught up in the greed that comes with full market. My fondest crypto memory. So I mentioned before,
00:05:29
Speaker
that I have money that's locked in Celsius. My dad has been holding some Ethereum for a while and he came to me one day, he said, hey, you don't have any money on that Celsius place, do you? I said, yeah, dad, actually I do. So flash forward or flash backwards. I've been telling him, you know, you should get a ledger wallet for a while. And he said, oh, I can't be bothered. I'm just going to leave it on the exchange. And, you know, he was on Coinbase. So allegedly that's a safer one.
00:05:56
Speaker
So when I told him, dad, you know, I do have Bitcoin on Celsius and there's a good chance I'm never going to see it again. He said, you know, I'm ready for you to help me set up that hardware wallet that you were talking about. So I bought him a ledger and I spent an entire afternoon helping him set it up. And if you've ever set up a ledger before, then you'll know that there's a few questions that they ask you kind of like a security check and just to make sure you actually understand what you're doing. And of course my dad had no idea, but
00:06:26
Speaker
As I was going through the questions, you know, I was actually being able to explain him. So if you want to follow along with the transaction and then you go to Etherscan and this is what you do with your private keys and just being able to share that knowledge with him and teach him something, that was such a great feeling.
00:06:43
Speaker
And even though I'm not in the best position with my funds on Celsius, knowing that there was a silver lining with him, that was a pretty fond moment. And that learning experience and being able to share with him was really beneficial for me.
Coping Strategies for Bear Markets
00:06:58
Speaker
How are you surviving the bear market? Any tips? This bear market has been brutal. I've heard people that have been in cycles before say that bear markets are tough, but this is the first time that I've
00:07:11
Speaker
really gone through one being pretty fully invested. May was tough. You guys, I lost a lot of money. I was really depressed. I grieved a lot. It was hard. I completely socially isolated for the entire summer. I barely talked to my family. I didn't see any friends. I completely stopped dating. I had no desire. I had to get
00:07:37
Speaker
right with myself to kind of get over this financial loss and this feeling of failure. But how I've been trying to overcome that is working really hard in my day job, trying to stack up some cash and keeping my ear to the ground. And I want to know everything that's going on so that I don't miss out on the opportunities moving forward. I don't have the capital to invest like I did before, but if I can stay vigilant, stay educated, stay informed,
00:08:06
Speaker
then I can make a little bit go a lot further. So it's hard. I think my biggest fear is getting bored, losing interest, complete apathy. So that's part of the reason why I want to make these videos. You know, stay connected with people, learn from them. And this is also part of the reason that I think the Joe chain has been so popular. The Joe NFTs, it's fun. It's a meme.
00:08:32
Speaker
And it brings the community together and it just gets everyone excited about something again. And it's brought so much joy into our day and it's shown me the power of community and how people can really rally around a project. So that's how I'm surviving the bear market. I'm working hard to stack up some cash. I'm trying to keep informed and educated and I'm buying Joe NFTs.
00:08:58
Speaker
And maybe I'll make some more YouTube videos. So we'll see how this one goes.
Current Portfolio and Investment Choices
00:09:01
Speaker
So what's in your portfolio? So what does your portfolio look like right now? My portfolio? Well, what's left of it? I have Bitcoin and cold storage.
00:09:10
Speaker
I have a small amount of room that I did not take profits on when I was at $12. So I'd say that's my second thing is holding. And then really the coins that I started to buy, which, you know, probably too, too soon, but I couldn't help myself. I bought some Adam and some of the Cosmo alts mostly just have it staked and I'm catching some airdrops. I like to do a little bit of day trading from here or there if I see some good opportunities, but I recognize that I'm not really a trader.
00:09:40
Speaker
So mostly just staking and then I think we're going to have some pretty good opportunities to point out. What advice would you give new people looking to enter this space?
Advice for Crypto Newcomers
00:09:50
Speaker
So I had a really hard time when I was first starting because I didn't know anybody and I made so many mistakes because I started playing around with things that I didn't know what I was doing.
00:10:01
Speaker
I went on to Discord to ask for help. I responded to private messages. That's how I got my wallet scams. Take this time right now to learn, to research, to study, to make friends, to go to crypto Monday's meetups, to have a resource, to have people in your network. Learn everything that you can. Be familiar with the terminology. Be so comfortable navigating between all of the wallets because when you're in the moment and you're making transactions and you're going from point A to point B, there's no one that can save you. There's no Fed.
00:10:31
Speaker
that can save you. There's no undo button on the blockchain. You know, I really hope that you don't have to learn the hard way like I did. So just study up as much as you can and be
Life Beyond Crypto: Hobbies and Interests
00:10:42
Speaker
prepared. Oh, let's have some fun. You make life changing money on a meme coin. What's the first thing you buy? A one way flight to go.
00:10:52
Speaker
I'm definitely getting out of town and then I'm going to figure out the rest later. Who do you simp on the most on crypto Twitter? Okay. Well, I guess I have to answer this if I'm going to have other people answer this question. For me, it's probably a time.
00:11:08
Speaker
I really like route to five. I think that he writes fantastic threads and I have learned so much from him. And he also posts random thoughts throughout the day. And when I read them, I feel like he's just speaking to me, like all his random observations about connecting with
00:11:27
Speaker
people on crypto Twitter and not in real life, but it just, it feels like it's me. So I'm always lucky to stop. And then I am also always in coach Bruce's spaces. Recently he's been giving a lot of meditation and spiritual advice. And I feel like this is something that's become very present for me right now. So that's something that I enjoy. And I mean, his tweets and his humor, I mean, how can that just not put a smile on your face?
00:11:54
Speaker
So, what's up guys? You can only hold on to one crypto for the next 10 years. What do you choose? Bitcoin. This bear market has definitely turned me into a Bitcoin maxi. Not a real Bitcoin maxi, because I'm still having fun with some alts, but the answer is Bitcoin. What do you like to do for fun that's not crypto? This is something that I really need to get better at. With the market being so down,
00:12:24
Speaker
It's really affected my emotions. It's because I spend so much time living and breathing this space. Recently, I mentioned before, I feel like I've been on more of a spiritual journey. I started going to some meditation classes, some breath work and some sound healing. I've also, I like to go to Pilates. One of my favorite things to do, I have a convertible. I like to drive up and down PCH. But the top down, I know that seems a bit silly, but I love to go for drives. I spend a lot of time with my family. I love to read.
00:12:53
Speaker
I'm always reading at least three books at any one time, but I never finish one. I'm always get a little bit for each one. And I love to travel. I just, I love to constantly learn and better myself. And I think there's so much the world has to offer and I'm just a very curious person. So really anything that kind of engages that curiosity for me. Biggest bag right now.
Bitcoin as a Long-term Hold
00:13:21
Speaker
Rune. Favorite L1.
00:13:23
Speaker
Right now, stargaze zone. I'm having so much fun buying NFTs. Trading or yield for me? Yield for me. Definitely not a trader. Threads or memes? I like to write threads and consume memes. Complete this sentence. Leverage is the devil.
00:13:46
Speaker
Lunch with Elon or dinner with Satoshi? I would say dinner with Satoshi. You know, we get so much access to Elon with all his tweets and his appearances. I would love to meet Satoshi and I think it would be very fascinating to know what he thinks about everything and his creation and what the industry has become of it. When Moon or when Lambo? When Moon. Because, I don't know, Lambo isn't even my dream car.
00:14:16
Speaker
All right, and then to end on a positive note, why are you still here? What exciting amounts about the future of web3? Why am I still here? That's a great question. I don't know where else to go. I think a part of it is the sunk cost fallacy where I feel like I've invested so much time, money, and energy into learning and exploring this space. There is also this fascinating community
00:14:45
Speaker
of people that I feel like are very like-minded to me. They operate on a bit of a higher vibration. In my normal day
Invitation for Anonymized Crypto Stories
00:14:54
Speaker
-to-day life, I just don't get the same kind of, I don't know how to say this slightly, intellectual stimulation as I do when I interact with people in the web-free world, people who really make me think and challenge me into other perspectives. And I think that's very interesting if anyone is going to build the future of finance.
00:15:14
Speaker
gaming, social media, it's these people here that we're interacting with and I hope I can be someone that can help tell their stories.
00:15:23
Speaker
So anyway, this was a bit of my idea, you know, just talk to people, get to know them, hear their stories. You know, if you've been in crypto the last year, you've been through the wars and I want to know more about it. If this is something that you're interested in, you don't have to be on camera. I get wanting to stay anonymous, but leave me a comment, send me a message and I'd love to meet you, hear your story and share it with the community. So thanks so much and I'll see you for the next Behind the PFP.
