00:00:43
Speaker
What is up Shaper Nation this is Nick Torres here and on this episode of Shaper Your Pottery I'm going to be talking about why every potter should be trying to find their own unique voice with their pottery and how it can be very beneficial to you. I don't know about you guys but for the longest time

Personal Pottery Style Journey

00:01:01
Speaker
I definitely wanted to find my own style, my own voice that I communicate with my pottery. Because I like seeing all the pottery out there, but a lot of the times they are
00:01:14
Speaker
They can kind of be the same, right? Pottery has been around for like 20,000 years. And they can kind of be the same. They can kind of look the same as everybody else's. And I don't know about you, but I didn't really want my pottery to look like everybody else's. I wanted my pottery to be unique to me. I wanted my pottery to feel fun and be unique to me so that I can just continue making stuff that I am known for. And it might be the same for you, it might not.
00:01:40
Speaker
But I think it's so important for everybody to at least try to go out and find your own unique voice that you communicate with your pottery. Because if you're able to find your own unique voice that you communicate with, then you're being more authentic to yourself. You know, whatever that voice is, you know, you could be somebody that just likes seeing good glazes on your pottery crate.
00:02:08
Speaker
Go do that stuff. You might be somebody that likes handboating and carving and making flowers. Great. Go do that. But it's important to go find these things because it's going to make pottery that much more enjoyable. And that's a whole point of why we started making pottery is because we thought it was fun and we wanted to be enjoyable. And what better way to make it more enjoyable than making our own unique pottery?
00:02:36
Speaker
making pottery that we can truly call our own, because who wants to be the same as everybody else? I don't know about you, but I definitely don't.

Craft for Enjoyment, Not Just Sales

00:02:45
Speaker
I like being different. I like being weird. I'm a weird, big ass weirdo. And I enjoy that. I am a weirdo. And I love that about myself. And it's the same thing with our pottery. You know, I don't want my pottery to look like
00:03:00
Speaker
every other potter out there. I want my pottery to be distinct to me and I want to enjoy it. I don't want to be making for somebody else. I want to be making for myself first. I don't want to be out there just trying to sell my pottery. I want to be out there trying to make pottery that I can truly find enjoyable.
00:03:20
Speaker
And that's why I think everybody should attempt to go try to find your own unique style that you can communicate with, you know, a style that communicates your voice. How exactly do you communicate that voice or find it? So it's very simple. It's number one, you got to build up your skills, just build up the skills enough so that you are able to start making your vision come to life. Second thing is you just lean more into your interests.
00:03:49
Speaker
Lean into your interest and try to bring those things into your pottery. And the third, just put your own emotions into it. Put whatever you think is going to look good. Go do those things. Go get uncomfortable. Go do those things. Don't be the same as every other potter out there. Be your own potter.

Audience for Unique Styles

00:04:09
Speaker
Make your pottery for yourself. Pottery that looks good to you, not for somebody else. Be that potter that other people look up to.
00:04:18
Speaker
And you do that by trying to find a voice that you communicate with yourself. Don't worry about what other people are going to think about your pottery. Just make for yourself. That's why we got into this pottery world because we thought it was fun.
00:04:31
Speaker
And if the more you can find your voice, the more fun you're going to have. And on top of that, I promise you, there are going to be people that are going to like it as well because there are freaking eight million people on this earth. They're going to be people that are going to like what you are making. And I promise you that they're going to be people that like what you are making. So everybody should go out there and try to at least try to find their own unique style, their own unique voice that they communicate with because it's going to be that much more fun, that much more enjoyable.
00:05:00
Speaker
Remember, you are just one pot away from finding a voice that you can communicate with your pottery. I'll see you guys next time.
