Why Not Sell All Your Pottery at Once?

00:00:16
Speaker
here. And on this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm gonna be talking about why you should not be selling all of your pottery all at once. So you see, very recently,
00:00:30
Speaker
I was watching a YouTube video with Alex Hermosi. And in this YouTube video, he was saying how in order to build a brand and to have higher selling, you know, products, he suggested that to not sell everything at once or all things at once.

Creating a Buffer for Price Flexibility

00:00:51
Speaker
So he said, give the example, if you have 100 products that you make in a month,
00:00:57
Speaker
and you are always selling that 100 products every single month and you're always selling out of it every single month, then what happens is then you have to make another 100 products the next month and the next month, the next month, the next month after that. And then he gave the example and then he went on to saying that you should only be doing about 20% of that, about only a little bit of that 100 products that you made.
00:01:23
Speaker
because now you have a buffer now you have a buffer and at the same time you can raise your price and it's so so true with our pottery as well and not only that it will also help us with discovering our own voice i'll tell you in a second but it will also help you discover your own voice so at some level whether you are

Levels of Pottery Sales

00:01:44
Speaker
doing pottery full time or you are just doing pottery as a hobby at some level you are going to eventually kind of sell your pottery whether it's to family or it's to customers around the world or just at farmer's market at some level you are going to sell your pottery

Building a Creative Buffer

00:02:02
Speaker
So if you make, if all you can make in a month is about 60, let's say 60 pots, if you are a good potter and 60 pots come out really, really well around that mark every single month. And so instead of going out, taking all those pictures for all 60 pots and then going out and selling them each month,
00:02:28
Speaker
Hold back a few. So instead of doing all 60, try doing just 20. Do 20, and now you have a buffer of 40. You have a buffer of 40, and the next month you're gonna make 60 again, and you're gonna go one more. You're gonna go up again. So you're gonna sell 30, and you're gonna keep the rest. You're gonna keep the other 30. Now,
00:02:53
Speaker
you have a hundred, now you have 70 pots that you have in a buffer. Now you're gonna do it again the next month where you're gonna make 60 again. And now you're gonna sell 40 of them. But now you have a buffer of, I don't know, 80.

Avoiding Overwhelm with Strategic Sales

00:03:13
Speaker
And it just keeps on growing and growing like that. And now because you have a buffer, now you have time to actually focus on things that you want to actually make. Focus on things to experiment. Focus on things to try to make your voice come to life. And this is why it's important to not sell every single one of your pieces of pottery all at once. It's important to have that buffer because now you're not so overwhelmed. You're not so overwhelmed about the next month, how you're gonna pay bills,
00:03:43
Speaker
But now you have a buffer. And now you have time to experiment. Because you have all this extra pottery that you are making and that you have stocked, now you have more time to go out and experiment. Go out and try to find your voice. Go out and try to make something that is going to truly bring you joy.
00:04:05
Speaker
because you have all this pottery and now you have all this time it is now time for you to start going out and trying to find something that you truly enjoy making so that's why it's really important to not sell all of your pottery if you are making hunt
00:04:23
Speaker
40, 100 pots a month, hold some back, hold some back, only sell a little bit at a time. And not only that, you're gonna be able to raise your prices, you're also gonna not feel overwhelmed. You're not gonna get that burnout and you're gonna have more time to experiment with your pottery because now you have more pots too that you know you can, that will sell and that will sell out and you don't have to be constantly making every single day.
