Season 4 Finale...and special announcement!

Speaker: Yo, this is Bare Knuckles and Brass Tacks, the tech podcast about humans. I'm George K. I'm George This is the end of season four, y'all. What a crazy time it's been. 52 episodes, another run.

Speaker: George, what did you think of it? You know, we took a chance on the year because I remember when we started off the season, we both kind of had a moment like, hey, so like, can we do things that aren't just cyber? And yeah I think we went down a little little bit of a rabbit hole and we, um I think we uncovered some really cool topics. I think we got some really good perspectives.

Speaker: ah the guests we got to meet were really interesting. Um, I like seeing non-tech people with non-tech perspectives, having to deal with how tech is impacting their lives, their careers. Uh, don't know. i just think, you know, it's, um, it was exciting and, and it's a fun direction for us to go in.

Speaker: um but I think, you know, there's a lot of different things happening and changing and, uh, I think the audience might not understand all of it, but I think this was the kind of callous that we needed to take a step back, start rethinking what we really want to do.

Speaker: And I think come up with some even more exciting things that, um you know, I really can't wait for us to be able to tell people about. Yeah, so we changed topics. We changed guests.

Speaker: Just a quick recap. We had ah sex worker and free speech advocate, among others, an Amnesty International policy expert, ah journalists. We had ones from 404 Media and Fortune Magazine. Can't believe they answered my emails. Thank you.

Speaker: ah We had ai founders from outside the Silicon Valley bubble, importantly outside the U.S., We have military historian, nuclear security expert, with psychologists, linguists, executive coaches, and a Muay Thai fighter. World champion Muay Thai fighter. Yeah. Yes. So ah we changed the format.

Speaker: um I liked that we added questions at the end because I think that for you and me, a lot of the show is not pontificating. It's us like trying to think through problems. We just happen to do it out loud in front of microphones.

Speaker: um But yeah, so where are we headed next? So as George has intimated, we are working on some things. ah Some, I guess you could say partially inspired by some of the conversations we've we've had here over the last four years.

Speaker: And so there's some big changes ahead. And that means that the show is also very likely to change. We are still mulling over some ideas, but there's Probably going to be a change in programming, definitely a change in the cadence.

Speaker: It is a lot of work to put the show on every week from all four corners of the earth that we are traveling in. So we'll probably dial it back down to two times a month, maybe a little bit longer, probably one interview and then one kind of reflective dialogue on the zeitgeist.

Speaker: um That is not set in stone, but that is, I think, where we are headed. Yeah. I think it's, it's important to stress. It's just a ah temporary pause. It's not a forever thing, but I think, uh, you know, this is, uh, this is just one part of a lot of really fun planning and work that, uh, we've been doing in the background. Um,

Speaker: when you're starting to do some different adventures and some different ideas, it's a really thankless experience. And it's not really like if you're doing it properly, no one really actually knows about it.

Speaker: And, uh, and also, also, you know, only the most fucked up among us take like a second full-time unpaid. ah Yeah. So if you haven't figured it out by now, I mean, that's, um, that's what we're painting. So, you know, I think as that, that kind of goes and, and we,

Speaker: I guess, you know, put our money where our mouths are and take a shot at, you know, doing the things that we want to do our way. i think people will grow and come on the journey with us. I hope it influences them to to try and take a shot in their own lives.

Speaker: But I do think that as we progress, as we change, as, um you know, people start to see kind of everything that we've been doing, um I think they'll come to appreciate the direction that we're going to take things in. And, you know, when the show does come back full steam, because we'll have capacity and not be overemployed and exhausted all the time. um I think people are going to be very, very satisfied with the the level, the scale and the reach that we're going to be able to achieve.

Speaker: Yeah, thiss going to be a blast um and hope you stick along for the ride. But in the meantime, we are headed to the desert for the usual song and dance that is Black Hat. And when we return, which would normally be the kickoff of season five, we will dial it back. We'll play some best of episodes, um but it might be quiet for a little while, but we will be back and stronger than ever.
