What is up everybody? In this episode of Shaping Clutter, you're going to be learning about focusing in on just a few things. I'm taking this episode from, I'm kind of coming back in from what Andrew Boswell was talking about.

One of the things he was talking about was focusing in on just a few things make get really really good at making a few things. So what he did was he focused on making coffee pour overs, teapots, and I think it was mugs I want to say. And doing this

allowed him to go really, really deep into that style. He got so, so good at making that style. And when it came time to sell, it was really, really, really easy to sell his pottery because he didn't make it complicated. He didn't make it complicated for the customer. He made it super simple. He had three items. That's it. Three items.

And those three items allows him to just go really deep on those three items and experiment different things with them. Because if you go too broad with everything, if you have too many eggs in too many baskets, then you're going to be all over the place. You're going to have way too many things to work on. You're going to have everything going to be so, so complicated. So that's why you should be focusing on just a few things all at once. Because when you do it this way,

you're gonna be able to go one instead of going a thousand miles wide, but one inch deep, you're gonna go one inch deep, but a thousand miles down.

and that's gonna be a lot more effective. It's gonna be a lot better for you. You're not gonna feel so overwhelmed with your pottery. You're not gonna feel, oh, when do I have to make this? But if you go super deep on just a few subjects, your voice is gonna pop out significantly more than if you go try to make everything.
00:02:09
Speaker
And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be experimenting with things. You should experiment with things until you find what you like to make. And then go really, really deep on those things that you like to

make. The deeper you go on those things that you like to make, the deeper you're going to find what you like to make and what you're going to uncover for your voice that you like. That's why it's very important to just focus on a few small things. That's it.

During my junior year of high school, the summer I was going into senior year, I couldn't do much, but I read the book, Four Hour Work Week. And basically in that book, it's telling him to focus on a few things rather than a lot. And those few things will lead to bigger results.
