Speaker: If you love pottery and want to take your skills to the next level, you're in the right place. Find your own pottery style right here on Shaping Your Pottery with Nick Torres. Let's get started. Here's why you need to be making more pottery. What is up, Shaping Nation? This is Nick Torres here. And in this episode, I'm going to be talking about why you need to be making more pottery. Keep making pottery and keep making more pots.

Speaker: For those that don't know me, it is my mission to help potters like yourself discover your own unique voice with your pottery. And I do that by sharing tips and tricks I've learned along the way, and I hope I'm able to help you out. So in this episode, again, I'll reiterate, you need to be making more pottery. Why do I say that? Because a lot of times we over complicate things. We over complicate things in terms of, am I heading in the right direction with my pottery? Is my pottery looking good? Is my pottery doing this, this, and that?

Speaker: But at the end of the day, what really matters is that you just need to make more. You need to make more pottery. Make more pottery. Keep making it because that's how you find your voice. Not by making every once in a while or making every one in a few days. You need to be making pottery all the time. Especially if you are a beginner and you're just trying to learn how to throw in the wheel.

Speaker: Learn how to hand build, learn how to sculpt. You need to put in time, make time every single day, whether it's even if it's 10 minutes, five minutes, make time to practice and make time to make pottery. The more pottery you make, the better your skills and the faster your skills get because you can learn something from a workshop. Maybe you took a workshop and about wheel throwing and

Speaker: You took this eight week wheel throwing workshop and you have a little bit of a confidence but then you stop working on your pottery for a little while. What do you think is gonna happen? Are you gonna be better than you were before or after you took that eight week course? In my opinion, I think you're probably gonna stay the same. You're never gonna grow. You're not gonna be at the level you want because you stopped making the pottery. The more pottery you make,

Speaker: the better your pottery will be. And the more you make, the more you learn, the more you learn, the better your pottery will be. It's an endless cycle. It all starts with making pottery. Again, if you don't have time to make pottery, try to make pottery for five minutes. Whether you're just touching the clay, simply getting in the studio, or doing whatever with the pottery, keep making pottery. This is the most crucial thing to be able to find your voice.

Speaker: When I was learning how to sculpt my characters, my tauren character, I didn't know what I was doing at all. I had no clue what I was doing. I had no experience sculpting. I had no idea what my character was going to look like. I had no idea how to make eyes, hands, all this stuff.

Speaker: Every single day, I made it a goal, a mission, to just at least practice making the sculpting, that pottery, that character, and just practice it. Whether it was five minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, an hour, I made time to practice, and I made pottery, I made the sculptures, I kept making them, and making them, and making them, and making them, and making them, and eventually my design was able to kind of come to life that I had in my head. Because I kept making pottery, and you need to keep making pottery as well.

Speaker: I hope you guys enjoy this episode and I'll see you guys in the next one.
