And I think this is a really interesting debate right now because I think if you ask any Interfan or any Serie A fan, anyone looking at Inter's work in the transfer market in the summer where Inter possibly upgraded, where they possibly downgraded, I think the one area where most people agreed that Inter had downgraded
Speaker: was in the goalkeeping department. The sale of Onana to Manchester United for a fee which, I mean, I thought certainly at the time and probably in time it will still be true. I thought United into undersold him to United and then they replaced him with a 34, 35 year old Yann Sommer who's had a steady career but has never, you know, not been, has never really hit the heights.
Speaker: And I think most people thought, well, that's going to be a definite downgrade for Intel. Now, it's early days so far, but what we have seen from both goalkeepers so far for their clubs is we've seen someone who's really, really, barely put a foot wrong and was fantastic last night, saved Intel last night. And then we've seen an Andre Onana who is really struggling in, admittedly, a complete basket case of a club in Man United, but is making
Speaker: For as good as he is with his feet, and he's probably the best in the world with his feet, still the number one thing the goalkeeper needs to do is to stop the ball from going in. And he's made a number of errors that have caused goals this season, including an absolute, and if everybody listened and seen it, horror mistake for the first goal that United conceded against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. Awful, just a shot from outside the area and he's spilled it into his own goal.
Speaker: So, what do you make of Sommer and Onana so far this season, Nimr? Well, I think it's just confirmed what I kind of suspected, and that is that, yes, Andre Onana is a good goalkeeper on the line, but I think on Sommer as a shot stopper, it's better. But when it comes to Onana, what I, at least, when I set into a weekend,
Speaker: meant is exactly that, his ball -playing ability, his command of the area, his fantastic passing, passing range. As a shot stopper, he was good, but it wasn't his most
Speaker: I think the stats actually backed that up because I was looking at a stats table and I think it was shot save percentage or something like that which isn't always the most telling for a goalkeeper but it kind of is because it kind of shows what savages should be making and he was around about midway in Serie A last season so clearly yeah it's not
Speaker: He's not an elite. He's not an elite shot stopper, and he's never been that. And I've got to say, young Sommer yesterday, because Sociedad's press was relentless, and he was intelligent. Again, I want to praise Sociedad for the hour last night. They were brilliant. The way that they pressed, they really put him under pressure.
Speaker: but he handled it really well. Now, Onana would have probably dribbled two players and played a Pirlo Paz down the middle if he played yesterday for Inter. Summer doesn't do that because he's not as good with his feet, but he did save Inter twice, three times from good shots, good finishes. I mean, his reaction to, I think Sky Italia posted online on social media yesterday,
Speaker: His reaction time for that header was 0 .3 seconds to save what is a certain goal. And on the goal itself, that was just, I mean, you talk about Howlers, Alessandro Bastani, my God in heaven, as someone tweeted out, he had a Roger Ibanez moment.
Speaker: but it was you know that it happens again it happens to all players it happens to all teams especially after an emphatic Derby win and they get overconfident and think they're the best and I think either should be you know thanking their lucky stars they got away with one but I think this could be a blessing in disguise for them moving on but to get to the point look young summer yesterday
Speaker: was as good as Inter need him to be if they are to win any trophies this season. You need your goalkeeper to keep you in games when you're off, when everyone is off, so that when the chance presents itself you can steal one or maybe even three points because I still don't understand why Marcus Taram's goal was offside.
Speaker: I just don't understand. They've shown it. They haven't shown who was offside. Was it Lautaro? Was it Carlos Agosto? Who was offside? They've still not shown it. And I was asking on Twitter, did anyone see what it was? Still don't know, which I think is ridiculous. You've got to at least show. If it's offside, then please create the graphic, because it wasn't a clear cut offside. So I'm not doubting that it wasn't offside, but at least show it so that us watching can see what's going on.
Speaker: But yeah, no, Sommer was unbelievable yesterday. And he was the man of the match, no doubt. And I think as a shot stopper, he will be better for Inter than Onana was. But of course, in the build up phase, his passing, his creativity, his vision, which is crazy to say about a goalkeeper.
Speaker: Yeah, and I should add though, from the Nana point of view, I think he will, I do, I am sure he will come, come good. Can I just read out the central defense he's got in front of him? Sergio Reggion, Lissandro Martinez, Victor Nelson Lindela of Diego Dallor.
Speaker: I mean, what do you want from the man? Well, to be fair, I'm not going to absolve him. You make a mistake like that. That's nothing to do. That's fine. That's absolutely fine. But it's the fact that his confidence is a little bit sharp. Playing in front of the thing is with an honor is when you've got when you've got a goalkeeper like that. And that's so good of his feet. It can kind of become redundant if the players in front of you can't play with their feet. I mean, Lindelof
Speaker: Lindelof can't even can barely stand up on his feet, let alone use them to play out of a press. You know, so bad with technically with a ball at his feet. Like, yeah, awful. So bad. And obviously, you know, I do have some injury problems, but I'm sure he'll come because I think he's a leader and even stood up in front of the press afterwards. And, you know, he's he's a he's a winner. No, he's a talk about mentality monsters. Andriana is a mentality monster. He he doesn't back down. He
Speaker: takes things head on. He's unique to create the right environment for him to be able to express himself. And I think Eric Tanhag knows him, so he would know what to do. He'll come good. I'm confident of that.
