This week, we're kicking things off with the birdcage.

Discussion Focus: 'The Birdcage'

00:01:14
Speaker
We'll get into our favorite moments, what holds up, what doesn't, and whether we think it deserves its reputation as a classic. So grab some popcorn, settle in, and thanks for listening to Talk Over Us. Let's get it.

Origin and Setting of 'The Birdcage'

00:01:34
Speaker
Okay, considering we do not have Evan for long, Macklin, should we just dive right into the movie so we can get his thoughts? Well, in honor of Pride Month, we watched The Birdcage.
00:01:46
Speaker
Originally a stage play. I'm sorry. originally it Originally it was a French comedy, remake of a French comedy called Le Quint au Foyer. And it was that was originally based on a stage play.
00:02:02
Speaker
I could see this doing well on the stage. The way it's like filmed, you don't really need a lot of locations. That makes sense. It's also very tight. Like it all takes place within a weekend, you know?
00:02:13
Speaker
Yeah. so Yes. Very true.

Film Tropes and Age Concerns

00:02:15
Speaker
Also continuing the, the very insane movie trope of people meeting the in-laws for like the first time when they're already engaged. Yeah. Yeah.
00:02:25
Speaker
And the daughter is 18. and they've she's already been at college for a year. And Val's 20. Long enough to meet a 20-year-old. Who also is getting married at 20 to an 18-year-old with very actual minimal pushback in reality.
00:02:42
Speaker
No, truly. i mean, both parents are more on board than i would expect. I agree. mean, it's more of the telling them what's going on and they're like, okay.
00:02:56
Speaker
After a brief moment of startledness, they say, they're like all right, you know, it's your life. I just don't think in reality, 18 and 20 year old, like if again, thinking if it was our parents, I just don't know if that would go over well.
00:03:08
Speaker
Also love that he's like, yeah, I'm a frat guy. Me and my fraternity brothers. Like, yeah. And also getting married, obviously. Yeah. She's she's a freshman in college, I guess.
00:03:21
Speaker
they I don't really know. i don't really know why they couldn't just make them 22. No reason. No reason. Like, how does the story, how is the story benefited by them? Like that doesn't even need to be there.
00:03:36
Speaker
Totally. you And you could also have the parents reacting the same way if they were 20 and 22 or 22 and 23. This does bring me back to, um and there's a movie called Mall Rats out there. strongly recommend watching it. It's a good movie, but there is a part with an underage girl in there that is very laissez-faire.

Synopsis of 'The Birdcage'

00:04:00
Speaker
The actor is clearly obviously not underage, so it's not a problem, but...
00:04:04
Speaker
yeah Wait, that's just like, what's it called? Animal House? Uh-oh. Yeah. yeah there's That is a super concerning underage scene. She's 14. Yeah. And they're super like beyond laissez-faire about it.
00:04:18
Speaker
Well, exactly, though. That's like every time it is brought up in a movie, it's that laissez-faire. It's ow. Yeah. Ow. There's also a little professor on student action in that movie. Oh, right. What's his face?
00:04:32
Speaker
We do not support. We do not support. It was it was the 70s. I officially introduced the viewer to what we're talking about. i will give a quick synopsis. As I said, we watched the birdcage in honor of Pride Month.
00:04:46
Speaker
This movie was about a to a gay couple that had raised a son in Miami Beach. He had gone off to college and come back unexpectedly and said, I'm getting married to this girl whose dad is a senator and mom is from high society and they're going to come down this weekend and meet you.
00:05:05
Speaker
and I told them a lie about who you were. So that's basically the gist. And so they have to come to terms with what they're going. Yeah, the girl kind of. Very much not on the same page with her husband-to-be, too.
00:05:19
Speaker
i I thought they had like come up with that lie together. Also, why they selected a Greek diplomat? Unclear. Well, that's... She calls him.
00:05:32
Speaker
Does she call him and say this is what happened? He's like, oh, sorry, dad. By the way, she said that you're a Greek diplomat. And maybe they were on the same page about the mom and but not the fact that he was a Greek attache or a cultural attache to Greece.
00:05:47
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah.

Notable Performances and Improvisation

00:05:50
Speaker
But continue with your synopsis. It's Robin Williams, who's Armand Goldman, who is the owner of this nightclub. And the star performer is his lifelong partner, his lifetime partner, Nathan Lane, who is known as Albert Goldman. And then we have on the other side, the girl's parents are played by the senator Gene Hackman. He's Senator Kevin Keeley. And then dianene ah Diane, Diane Wiest is Louise Keeley.
00:06:18
Speaker
Who looked familiar to me, but I don't remember what I've seen her in. i I agree. i A mom role of some sort, I think, in some other yeah movie. yeah Or like she was in a teen movie or something when she was like like an old movie. I don't know.
00:06:32
Speaker
i don't know. She looked familiar. Definitely familiar. Most of this movie was shot around Miami Beach and then some of the other scenes were in Los Angeles. But a lot of the outside shots, as you can see, is around the Miami Beach, South Beach area. And very much of the times, very much like...
00:06:51
Speaker
Crazy, wild guys walking around in Speedos, women walking around in thongs, like very colorful gay community shown a lot in this movie.
00:07:01
Speaker
This was directed by Mike Nichols, written by Elaine May. Like I said, it's a remake of a French comedy. um This all takes place in a weekend. And I think just stellar performances all around. One of the best well-written comedies that I've that I've seen.
00:07:18
Speaker
That's what Nora and I were talking about. i don't think I've I can't think of a comedy that is as tightly and well written, which maybe it's because it was a comedic stage play.
00:07:29
Speaker
But it is one of the better. I can't think of a better one. I'm sure there is. But there it is one of the better comedic movies from a writing perspective I've seen.
00:07:41
Speaker
Yes. I don't think anyone has done it better than Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. I think they're the perfect people. my God. Everything that he's in, I would watch. It's so good.
00:07:53
Speaker
I love them. I do think that Nathan Lane might be like pound for pound the best onscreen actor in a comedic role. Like yeah like when he was in Modern Family as the as just whatever guest character he was stole the show.
00:08:10
Speaker
When he's in Birdcage, like steals every single scene. um i just When he came in dressed in the whole, not it's not drag. I mean, it is, I guess, but he just comes in and dressed as his mother to their surprise.
00:08:26
Speaker
kills it I mean just kills it i just remember just like pumping my fists I was like the guy he could just make any situation work I mean you could just tell he's like an actor's actor like he he really is like a thespian no he's really good at what he does very good so then we're gonna go around we already started but quick takes overall just quick takeaways if you had to talk to someone in an elevator what are you gonna say Nora go ahead recommend the movie i can't believe it's not known more to be like a classic h i loved it i thought it was hilarious i was laughing out loud a lot more than i expected just because i didn't know i had seen clips of it before in passing but never the full movie and it was even funnier than i expected i really liked it
00:09:17
Speaker
I also really enjoyed like there was a lot of there are certain parts that were improvised that you could tell were kind of ad lib between Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, which was always like fun. So I overall really, really enjoyed the movie and I will put it as like a classic from here on out for me.
00:09:35
Speaker
OK, Evans, what do you think? I liked it. I will say I came in a little less bullish on it than the rest of you guys, or it seems that way. I liked it a lot. Would not say it arrived on my classics list. Was very much a fan, though.
00:09:50
Speaker
And i one of my favorite takeaways from this is Robin Williams playing the straight man, by and large, which is ah fascinat does it fantastically. It is a little bizarre to see him only do Robin Williams' improvisation like...
00:10:04
Speaker
true, so like just scatting. I think one time when he's doing the Martha Graham, Martha Graham. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. butonna yeah donna yeah It is funny that he's the straight man to Nathan Lane's character, which again says something to how good Nathan Lane is that you don't even think about the fact that Robin Williams is playing straight man Yeah. Yeah.
00:10:28
Speaker
All right. So you'd say it was, it was, it was good, but not quite as in the classic category. Nora, did you give a number? Are we let's out of 10? Or should i wait should I wait? We're going to wait until the end to reveal our finals.
00:10:43
Speaker
All right, I'll go next. We're going on birth order. I do think this was, like I said, really, i just was more um taken away by how well written and tight it was. It wrapped up so nicely at the end.
00:10:56
Speaker
It was already a short time frame. I think movies like that are really underrated sometimes. Yes, there's maybe not more than what you see. Like, you know right away, okay, this is the this is the gist.
00:11:07
Speaker
We got a colliding of worlds. We've got... a Totally, you know, flamboyant gay couple. We've got a super conservative right wing couple coming down. There's political scandal going on. This is going to

Classic Comedy Status

00:11:20
Speaker
be chaos. And I loved every second of it.
00:11:23
Speaker
I think this does probably go into the classic category for me. I think it's like an easy watch. I think people could just turn it on and the acting is so good. You don't have to think too hard into it. ah The plot's obviously like very simple. So I'm going to agree with Nora and say ah classic comedy, one of the more well-written comedies I've seen in the last couple of years.
00:11:41
Speaker
Yeah, really solid.
00:11:46
Speaker
I would just echo what everyone else said. I think it was really good. i was laughing out loud, which I always appreciate when something's not just funny, but like shockingly funny. And I think it, despite being a simple plot, wasn't necessarily an overly predictable film. I think the only, the only weakness it has really is how it wraps up.
00:12:05
Speaker
And I think. There's like a back and forth portion that's like not totally necessary where it's like, no, you're not going to be the mom or you're going to be the dad or what that part. So like if it has a weakness, it's probably in how it wraps up. And I think like the parents response is a little bit unbelievable.
00:12:23
Speaker
Right. Like when they figure it out. So but besides that, it is like it it is still one of the funniest things I've seen. and i And I think it it the fact that it's still funny today, generationally, too, it isn't so steeped in the generation it was created that it's no longer funny. So, yes, I agree. a classic. I would watch it on any random given night. And I think it'd be fun to watch with other people, too.
00:12:50
Speaker
Do you think I thought the ending, maybe there's so some suspension of the belief, but I thought they'd like wrapped it up pretty well. Maybe it was a little rushed. I don't know. It felt pretty rushed because that's a pretty big reveal. And it was sort of taken on as like the wife just goes, he's a man. and then they kind of just are worrying about the paparazzi. i I think that's somewhat unbelievable, but I suppose there's a suspension of disbelief already because you're assuming that Nathan Lane and drag is not at all perceived as perhaps a man. He's like, again, wondering that quite well to, to Kevin, Kevin, uh, Keely really, really,
00:13:29
Speaker
enjoys her company bringing with her yeah now i just wonder in real life would you notice i that's what i'm saying and i that's i some women do wear wigs like some old ladies of that age would wear wig and it's not like nathan lane is overly masculine looking to begin with it's not like he is really you know like classically masculine features he has smaller features so there it's somewhat believable but i think You're already suspending disbelief because this man is not at all suspicious.
00:14:03
Speaker
Yeah. So I just think the wrap up was just a little rushed and like a little bit just, I also was surprised and this is getting off on kind of a different topic. I was also surprised given the marketing of the movie. I thought Nathan Lane would be in that character for longer, but it's really a pretty short part of the movie that that dynamic takes place.
00:14:22
Speaker
Yeah. and there's a huge lead That's the synopsis is that na yeah care and drag whereas it's really just the half like last third.
00:14:33
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. And I thought that was going to be half of the movie, but the lead up to what precipitates that is, is much bigger and longer than I realized. Yeah. So that's what surprised me. There's just something about Nathan Lane when he flies off the handle though. He's the best at flying off the handle comedically.
00:14:51
Speaker
Like when he just when he's like upset, you know, or like he thinks that that Armand is seeing someone else because he only drinks red wine. And yeah it's just like those little things I think are he's so good at. It's it's like like a rant comedian, you know, comedians that are really good at ranting.
00:15:08
Speaker
Nathan Lane, although he is good at just the subtleties, he is, I think, like the best at atd flying off the handle, at just kind of losing it at someone because he's still so eloquent.
00:15:20
Speaker
But him in Modern Family, I love him Like, there's a scene where he's playing Pepper and they're planning a wedding or something. And there's someone who, like, put a plate, like, a plant down. And he's like, what is wrong with you? how Like, how could you be so dumb? And he moves the plant, like, three-fourths of an inch. And he's like, get of my face. You disgust me. Like, I don't even want you here. Like, how could you ever do this? And I just think that is in this character a lot. and know's it's always very funny to see him in that role.
00:15:48
Speaker
Which is maybe... Oh, I was just going to say he also did a really good job. Like my favorite, one of my favorite scenes, not necessarily because it was funny, but because he played it so well was when he walks in to the bedroom and he's wearing a suit and trying to look as straight as possible.
00:16:05
Speaker
And you can there he doesn't say much. But his physical acting and emoting does such a good job of expressing to the viewer how hard he's trying to repress himself to function in this, like what he thinks is the way that he should be perceived to as a straight man. And I think there was something so poignant and touching about that. I almost started crying because he did such a good job of making it so painfully obvious. was a little wasn't it?
00:16:37
Speaker
Yeah, it was That was that he was trying with him place it was just trying so hard to be something he was not. And it just made you feel for his. He did a really good job of making you empathize for his character on like this wasn't an easy ask for him, basically. And they were actually asking him to like do something that was really difficult.
00:16:56
Speaker
And that's why Val is the villain of the story, because how could you make the person? ah your Pretty matter of fact, he says, like, we got to do this. Yeah. na na Pick Albert out. Albert's your mother, like maternal figure in life. And you're just going to say, have him leave for a couple of days because I don't want him around.
00:17:15
Speaker
Like, yeah. Also to make your dad do that instead of talking to Albert yourself is pretty cowardly. Yeah. Well, I think you're like parental figures do this at all. Just to begin with didn't translate. Well, I think like generationally, right. Like, I think the one thing I will say I was shocked by is that Robin Williams character initially says like F no, which I was happy about. I was like, that seems realistic. Like yeah know i thought. Perhaps he was going to be like, oh, of course, we'll pretend to be something we're not. But I love that he was like, no, I'm not going to. What am I? What? I'm going to do this for these people. Like,

Family Dynamics and Realism

00:17:49
Speaker
I'm not going to do this. So I like that. That's how it transpired. I think that's really like would be ah well received today, too. But it was the sun was kind of weird.
00:17:59
Speaker
Well, it also persisted so much. where I was like, even when i was going to shit, not until the last five minutes was he like, this is my mom. I'm like, you could have felt this way the whole time. Like, you know about him.
00:18:12
Speaker
he like He was kind of a weak link, I think, of the film. Like he was just kind of a nothing. I think they didn't write his character well though. Like I really think it, it didn't seem like he was in the problem with Armand and Albert, right? He was just like, you guys are making this difficult for me, figure it out.
00:18:31
Speaker
And I think it would have been much more, it would have been a better film if he was like, what do we do? Like, I love you guys. I don't know what's going to happen if they're going to come here. Should we try to like fool them? What should we do? Like, I think that would have been a much more,
00:18:45
Speaker
nicer way to view his character. But instead he was just like, oh, you guys are really flamboyant. Can you like figure it out for me? Also, like Albert, go away, even though you're the only mother I've ever known.
00:18:56
Speaker
i don't really want you around and I'm not going to talk to the whole film. They've never had like a one on one interaction. Yeah, that was crazy. At no point were you like Val's explaining to him what's happening or at least asking for his help, which is seemed like the way that Albert was loving Val. That would be the best way to bring it up would be to. Yeah. yeah Yes. And these are his two paternal figures. And he's basically just saying, I'll take one of you because you're not very flamboyant and I can't work with the other one. And it just that felt very.
00:19:25
Speaker
Well, it's also because I guess technically, yeah, like Robin Williams or whatever, his biological dad, but he didn't ever know his mom. So they're both. No, and Albert helped raise him. That's what I'm saying. They're both your parents at the end of the day. So I don't understand. Albert didn't get enough love in general in that that role as far as what it looked like. He raised Val. I feel like Uncle Albert was not a high enough esteem.
00:19:48
Speaker
I know. agree. think. And I and I. And that's why that scene was so sad, because he was like trying so hard to help this kid that he loves. And this kid is not like showing him love back. Yeah, I know. And then his little pink socks show and he goes, know what he's saying. He's like, doesn't everyone need a little color? little pop of color? Yes.
00:20:13
Speaker
It made me almost self-conscious. I'm like, dang, I wear too many earth tones. I got to get a little color. Because when he said it, it did it did paint like the normal straight man as being like, man, they've got no color, no pizzazz. Can't we just get a little something?
00:20:31
Speaker
like And as I know I said about game culture, they have a zest for life, which we must appreciate and should all strive for. and when Albert's the man about town in the market and having a schnecken, which he so that was the v maybe you want to try a schnecken.
00:20:47
Speaker
I don't know what a schnecken is, but I want one. But that who wants more than that? Who could ask for more than that? Walking around, being the man about town, talking to the lobster guy, the guy's trying sell you lobster.
00:21:00
Speaker
When they are about town, you just got to attach yourself to that to that wagon and let it ride. know. Because they're a fun time. Also, what if their family's them and then their, what's his name?
00:21:14
Speaker
ah The butler guy?
00:21:22
Speaker
His full name. Yes. He was actually very funny. my natural was very funny he was he was great in role. I think good. was like, oh, he's a really good supporting character. Favorite lines? Evan, you go.
00:21:40
Speaker
um Very subtle, but when he's introducing the idea to Armand, Val goes, are you upset? And Robin Williams turns he says, but let me tell you why. Yeah.
00:21:52
Speaker
I like it. like I have a couple. Can you do all yours and then? Cause I have a couple. Okay. I have one. You were magnificent. Marvelous. Very masculine. I'm so proud of you. That big gorilla looks so ridiculous when he sat on you and banged your head on the ground. and He didn't, he didn't even know how to box.
00:22:15
Speaker
Loved it. That was like, that plays into when they're, when they're talking about the dolphins gaming, they're like, how do you feel betrayed? Bewildered? Long response? Everyone was, was when he's trying that out for the first time and he says, Armand, you old so-and-so dolphins.
00:22:35
Speaker
I love when they're. Oh yeah, go, you go. No, go on, you go. and then I'll go quick. You go. I was just going to say, um I really loved when he's like, I'm just a woman.
00:22:45
Speaker
He's like, you're not a woman. You bastard. be that best You bastard. And then he's also there in the fight. And then he's talking about all the things. He's I'm fat. I'm short. He goes, made you short.
00:22:56
Speaker
I made you short. and made you sure I like that. I like that. When he's leaving, you know, he's going to the cemetery with his toothbrush. yeah and i pack Yeah. He goes, you're going to the cemetery with a toothbrush. How Egyptian. yeah I was throwing toothbrush over the shoulder was the funniest thing. Yeah, he's like, I packed light. I also loved when they were like, oh, sure, throw yourself away on some dormitories or dormitories. And then he's holding his baby shoe, watch it like looking at the album, like photo albums, holding his little baby shoe.
00:23:40
Speaker
When he's teaching them, you know, he's like, you spread, you spread. And then he's doing it. Oh, I pierced the toast. That was one His practice walk was incredible with the little clogs. It was great.
00:24:01
Speaker
i just didn't realize johnny and walked like that he's like not bad i it's and the hat and the tipping of the sun hat incredible it's too good and then there's this scene um the so the when he's robin williams has a soup and he like falls that's like improvised because he actually fell because he spilled a little oh and then he gets up and he goes shut up And you can see the like ah the guy who's the maid, he's like kind of holding back a laugh.
00:24:25
Speaker
And he's like holding the shrimp in his hand. That one too. That was good Wait, the best of the soups one was like one of the funniest scenes. I wonder if he ad-libbed that whole thing. Because, you know, and she was like, there's an egg in it. And he was like, of course. a wevo And he says, you know, they measure.
00:24:42
Speaker
That's their main form of currency. The women are measured by chickens or something. And I was just like, this man is... the line you're and then it leads to he goes you know it's only a man's only as good as the size of his cock he leaves the i have to go and he's like trying to feel like the decadent placing out of the men yes That's where Robin Williams playing the straight man, he does such a good job because you know it's like he's boiling.
00:25:10
Speaker
You know there's so much in there. So you're like every single scene, there's that tension of like, is he going to like just let it go? i was a fan of the understated lines in this, which there are many. There are many little ones that were thrown out, which is I think a statement of a good a good movie when every yeah scene has a little one.
00:25:27
Speaker
loved when he goes to pour a drink for, after they've they've realized the press is outside, he goes to pour a drink for, Senator Kuehley goes... Mr. Keeley another drink he goes no I don't really drink and he pours him one he goes well now's a good time to pretend yeah now's a good time to pretend yeah yeah then when he's talking about his shoes, how he doesn't wear shoes, he goes, my guadalmelan hotness. It's my natural shoes. My natural shoes. My natural shoes. My guadalmelan.
00:25:56
Speaker
I do think it's one of those things where Emma, like when I have to say, Emma asks, she's like, should I watch it? Should I just like, while I was doing other things as like a background thing, a background movie. I really think this movie can't be a background movie. Otherwise you're going to miss so many of the lines that are so good. Yeah.
00:26:10
Speaker
Because you really won't pay attention. You'll lose it. And you just like won't pay attention as you need to. because it's No, I totally agree. And Nora told me not to. And so I actually sat down and watched it. And it was so funny. And I paused it when I had to go do stuff because I didn't want to miss. It's so chock full of good lines, as Evan said. A lot of understated, like easy to miss one-liners.
00:26:30
Speaker
yeah Even like the little things when they're doing the setup and they've got, you know, it's like they're going to put the moose there, then they take it out. Then they have this 10 foot tall crucifix. like it's just And the way they make it into a literal monastery, like even the way they redecorate is all the way the other way. They're like... all right how do we make it straight we're gonna make it into a church you know and like it was just so funny and of course like you know when keely walks in he's like i just love the way this is decorated you know this is just so simple and it's great well my favorite is in like lane he's like whatever itches and then his wig kind of moves and the girl helps which i love the fiance she's helping she's trying her best even though she created an issue she's like moving inside he's like
00:27:17
Speaker
a good woman. And I see this all the time. And he's talking about how like Robin Williams character just must be doing so wrong by her. And then they get into their own little squabble of marital problems about all that.

90s Stereotypes and Marriage Dynamics

00:27:28
Speaker
And I just think when you're like the ending of stuff, it just makes it so much better. Cause like their relationship is kind of this like cute little friendship. I'd like to assume they have like a friendship from there on out. What great send up of a early, what a late nineties, early two thousands conservative couple.
00:27:45
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, right. Bob Dole is mentioned twice in the movie. In the very beginning, they kind of mentioned Bob Dole. Yeah, and then at the end, do you... They kind of gas him up. Kind of hot. Yeah.
00:27:59
Speaker
Bob Dole, kind of hot. Which I just think in that general, like like an old politician, you know, like a gruff, maybe conservative politician, they're like, kind of hot. Like, that's just... I would imagine it's... That happens sometimes.
00:28:12
Speaker
Like, they're like, oh, I'm not... They're like, you're kind of hot, Bob. I do enjoy one of my favorites when they're at the dinner table or the breakfast table and they're watching the show where they're just yelling at each other.
00:28:23
Speaker
Really is the most intelligent program on TV. I was going to say, do you think Gene Hackman in drag? You're not spotting him in that crowd? I will say. a tall man.
00:28:35
Speaker
They did a good job. They paired him up with probably the best look for drag for that kind of guy. Yeah. fine Good job. I would have loved to see that. I saw him i thought I thought he could have done some more intense makeup makeup in my opinion. um Yeah, I think they could have gone lashes or some more intense like like like cheek situation. But that's, you know, a nitpick. You guys can dive into that more in jammy time. Maybe that could be a whole thing. Jammy
00:29:04
Speaker
ah time. We're going to do quick, quick segments here. you just have to give first first opinions. Okay.

Movie Pairings and Cocktails

00:29:14
Speaker
Best movie companion.
00:29:17
Speaker
So when you watch this movie, what's another movie that you would watch along with it that's kind of like in the same double realm? Yeah. yeah What am I doing to record this? Good morning, Vietnam.
00:29:29
Speaker
Could be. Could be. Never seen it, but I wanted to watch it right after. some case I'm thinking Mrs. Doubtfire. I was thinking Mrs. Doubtfire. Yeah. Or Tootsie. Tootsie's like... all or tutsie tutsie pat I'm trying think of a movie that's very fast. just of chuckling the whole day afterwards. You're setting yourself up for a great day. What would you pair this with? a little heart The episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Charlie is getting them ready for an inspection and throughout the day is basically making everything go off. I think it's called Charlie Work or something like that. I would pair it with that episode.
00:30:08
Speaker
That's a lovely pairing. That's a lovely pairing. yeah i I have another question. what What cocktail would you be drinking while watching this movie again?
00:30:18
Speaker
got to be fruity. It's got to be fruity. I'm thinking Mai Tai. Mai Yeah. and A Negroni. Ooh, i don't know about Tassoni. That could be. could be Pina. I mean, I would do a colada on the beach.
00:30:35
Speaker
Oh, i would do pina colada. I'm going for like a spicy like pineapple margarita, something very South Beach. I like that. I don't know, something margarita-esque. This would be a great When you're getting ready, you're in Miami, you're going out in the town, you have this background so you if guess compared to Yeah, you're getting ready and then it ends when you're kind of about to go out with a we are family.
00:31:07
Speaker
We are family. Great song to have as a main intro. I got all my sisters and That's a song if you get it. It makes me want to go to a drag show. It just makes you excited. and It makes you happy. It makes you feel like you're part of the film a little bit. It's like at the end of a play when everyone comes out and bow, like that's the song. Yes. yeah I will say, having been to a couple of drag shows, they're not that good usually. so i respect the pageantry. It's good thing.
00:31:38
Speaker
Yes. There's like Sounds like we need to go to a good drag show. I think there are bad ones and good ones. And I think the production value... Yeah, that's what saying. Like, I've been to, like, a subpar one a little while ago, but, like, this made me want to go to, like, a high caliber. I've never been one. never been to one, think.
00:31:54
Speaker
Nora, maybe we'll go when you come visit. Yeah, maybe. I'm sure I would. Okay, next next segment here.

Hypothetical Family Scenarios

00:32:03
Speaker
If one of us brought home a significant other and those were the parents, what would our family do?
00:32:10
Speaker
We're the Keelys in this situation. What would our family do? I think a mother would be overjoyed. We're not like the Keelies, but we're in the situation where one of us is marrying into eccentric Miami family and we're meeting them for the first time.
00:32:28
Speaker
well How do you think our parents would do that? I think we'd have a blast. and I think mom would say, I knew it. He would take off the wig and mom would say, I knew it. I always knew it.
00:32:40
Speaker
And then dad would just kind of... Dad would be happy to be there, but I think mom would really enjoy it and they'd become fast friends. Yeah. yes i think mom would um so also Also, these people have a place in Florida.
00:32:56
Speaker
be like We're your best friends. In that situation, they're the catch for us. Oh, that's what I'm saying. I think mom mom especially would be elated. Mom would be like, this is like this is such an ad for our family. well that's because mom would love to be a Jewish woman living in South Asia. Yeah, Jewish or If we could just collect some more diversity in our family. Those are her people. Yes. She would be over the moon. She just wants to be one or the other. mom would be a fabulous gay man.
00:33:28
Speaker
I think the question really is. yeah Anything, yeah. Yeah, that's what I mean. I'm just saying like she would thrive. If I were to approach you and say, we're we're actually Armand and Albert a little bit. Like we're the family that we can't really introduce ourselves fully. I need you guys to kind of like make up a little scheme for me.
00:33:48
Speaker
the Like they hate men or something. So the boys have to be women. they They hate men or like something that's outrageous. And I'm just like, I need you to, I need you to follow through for me. Like a Val's asking his parents to do. Would you do that?
00:34:01
Speaker
I do it for the bit. I do it for you. And also the so what's going to go on in like a year. If you could pull it off. What'd you say? I think it would just be like the challenge of pulling it off. But what did you, yeah. You're going to show up to Christmas and drag every time.
00:34:17
Speaker
Well, this is the thing. I think it has to come undone and like inevitably because you are not showing up to the wedding. I want you to show up to the wedding as you are and like stand there you know like as you are. but So we're just playing an April Fool's joke then. What would it be for us though that we play like we are gay? You play your gay maybe. yeah have them because they're because they don't like because they be Because this family doesn't like straight men. They don't like straight men. They're cis heterophobic.
00:34:45
Speaker
Yes, that's right. So you gotta, guess it's hard because our family isn't very, we're not, we're not atypical. So I guess it's kind of tough when it applies to us, but I'm saying in the sense that I'm coming to you and I'm like, my boyfriend's coming, we're getting married. You guys need to put on this like play facade for me.
00:35:03
Speaker
They like us. Are you willing to like dress up, get into character, play that part? Yeah. martin Look, you're coming home with good boy who's a mechanic. I'm covered in arm in in overalls and grease.
00:35:16
Speaker
i Yeah, I'm coming in acting like I just plowed the South 40 for sure. Yeah, if that's like, say, that situation comes in, yeah, I'll come in. I'll come in fully in character. I can't wait for a situation like that.
00:35:29
Speaker
I can't. No, that's what I'm saying. I think we i think we would thrive. i would love a chance to act. love and then i think with the first accent i think each one of us i think each one of us is just a moment away just needing just needing one ask to come in and character. That's all we need. we don't need much Everyone's just a step away from needing a bit.
00:35:53
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. and was Me and my my friend, John, were both coming to each commenting and to each other when we were in Charleston on Memorial Day. it Thank God we're not gay. We would be such awful, awful queens. We would be so, so mean.
00:36:09
Speaker
good I believe that. I won't believe that. were like judgmental. We were judging someone as dancing. We're like, thank God we're not gay. We would be such horrible horrible queens.
00:36:20
Speaker
Yeah, you'd be judging everyone. Oh God, terrible. But you'd be great at it. ask to do it so Oh, I think I would have ended lives at this point. You would have been one of the greats, Evan.
00:36:31
Speaker
would said, you, look at you. little are you? You? Who are you to talk to me? well it did be really fun the background to the viewer We did grow up with Emma directing us in plays and dressing up in different outfits. We had a whole costume wardrobe closet. um And Evan was known to come down in different makeup get ups. Facial hair was on. Facial hair was off. He was a different different. He was European. he was you know it's sort of like whatever the opposite of drag what is. like he was just a more of a like He was just trying to be a manlier man. As this has been said in the past, I wore makeup, but it was always in the pursuit of facial hair.
00:37:17
Speaker
making So you were being a drag a drag king. i've There are bearded ladies out there. That's what I'm saying. You were being a drag king. drag king, yes. He was testing it He was good at it.
00:37:31
Speaker
We love theatrics. We love to dress up. Our dress up closet is still there's it's all there still. We could all still use it. I've told you guys if I ever get married, I want the dance floor to have a dress up box. I love that. That'd be so fun. With like boas and like hats and wigs and stuff. I want that there to be like a huge trunk and then everybody to grab stuff and like dance and dress up clothes. How fun would it be if it was some pieces from our actual dress up closet? yes i mean there's some things i love from there we still got some stuff right there's some good pieces we still have it all lot good work there's a lot of skirts in there we we got the hoop skirts there's some pretty good pieces i'm sure there's actually some really nice old stuff of grandma's in there that we just don't even no it's pretty rad it's it's pretty ratty Oh, maybe not. Maybe not. Maybe I have a more glorized, like I have really. I think, i think you do. Glasses view of it. It's like the top, top end like the line.
00:38:33
Speaker
That's really sweet though. That's very sweet. My favorite thing in the dress up closet was actually nothing but just a gold piece of fabric that you could kind of make shift into a dress. That was my favorite piece ever. And that, Lore, on that, that actually came from me dressing up as like a Greek person for freshman year Halloween.
00:38:52
Speaker
And that's how that got passed down to you. Yes. And then Emma and I watched a little movie together and she pinned it up for me. and we Yes. We wore dresses. Yes. My favorite piece was like the blue, the blue silk thing that I like always made into a dress. It was like a piece of blue, a bolt blue always loved the little wig, like curly wig we had, you know, that like wasn't wig. Yeah, yellow one. Yellow one.
00:39:18
Speaker
on it that will Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. I loved that. That one was great. That's probably still there. That's probably still there. We had quite a run. think wore it the other day.
00:39:30
Speaker
And we will run again because I think everyone, I mean, you don't all have to have dress up boxes at your weddings, but I think it's a fun idea. yeah I think I'm a fan. of beingruded I just think. Consider it. Consider it for years and consider it for you and yours.
00:39:44
Speaker
that Everyone has a little bit more pageantry in their life. Definitely, definitely small tambourines and maracas. I think we can all agree on that. Anything she did on date. Many things. really want mini symbols. They just go on your finger.
00:39:59
Speaker
You want a whole mini rock band set. You could have a little jump set. I love it. You could punch line up.
00:40:12
Speaker
Nora, I found a little, I found at Ace Hardware the other day, I bought my friend and I envelopes that are like this big. And they have seeds and a tarot cards in them and that you plant and then it becomes a plant.
00:40:26
Speaker
you have should go buy you some. You would love them. I thought of you when I was buying them. That's so cool. I think anything like that is great. I think everyone needs something mini in their lives. I think it's just whimsical and fun.
00:40:40
Speaker
is whimsical and fun. I don't why that made me think of in Harry Potter when he gives him that little notebook with the sock in it. I don't know why. That just made me think of that. Do you remember that?
00:40:52
Speaker
Dobby. Dobby. He's like, you've given Dobby a suck. Master's given me clothes. sos My roommate is obsessed with it. um One of my roommates is obsessed with her Instagram reels, has a lot of Dobby edits of like, what would Dobby be like at a party? The heck?
00:41:09
Speaker
Really weird. They're so weird. No one finds a movie her. She'll laugh. Yeah. um But they are so uncomfortable because it would be just Dobby with like a red solo cup kind of in the corner of a party. And like people are doing kickstands by him.
00:41:23
Speaker
Yeah. This AI shit is getting out of control. it's It's so dumb, but it's funny. Oh, did you even introduce our name? Oh yeah.
00:41:34
Speaker
Big reveal. Now for this, for the audience that we haven't had yet, but for all those listening out there, this podcast will be henceforth called the talk over us podcasts, because if anyone's picked up to get a word in, you must talk over someone else.
00:41:54
Speaker
So to talk over us is kind of the essence of this entire podcast. So that will be the name going forward. Also a challenge. i like the I like the direction the graphics are heading. i just have to ask. I'm not sure which girl is supposed to be which, but the girl in the red needs a cuter outfit.
00:42:12
Speaker
I agree. And I think it's me. I hate her outfit. No, I thought it was me. yeah i love me for a The girl on the right, I will tell you, hair, great, outfit, perfect. Girl on the left, rough.
00:42:25
Speaker
Emma, the right one is you. Who is the on the left? Who did you think of? Was it Emma? It's very clearly me. It was me. but i assumed to I assumed it was me.
00:42:38
Speaker
Why would it be you Because the hair is a little lighter and less creepy. But my hair is lighter than yours. In all variations, I assumed it was me. All right, folks.
00:42:51
Speaker
You're going to have some of us. All right. I have a quick rating Rating and then your proposal. Yes.
00:43:03
Speaker
okay i'll so i'll start Reverse age or yes, I will give it 8.7. That's right.
00:43:14
Speaker
I have notes, but not very many. Loved it. Boom. 8.7. I will go with an 8.1. I think it cracked the eights. I think it's really solid. It's a movie that's very watchable. I could watch it again and again.
00:43:31
Speaker
7.9. similar sentiment just below the high water mark that I think an 8 would be. Alright, Nora, bring us home. I'm going to give it 8.72. Yeah, girly. Nice. Anchoring.
00:43:47
Speaker
i propose for next week The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. The Fugitive? Never heard of it. Don't know if I sat down and watched it end to end or had classic 90s
00:44:01
Speaker
nine oh ah thriller action movie set in Chicago. It's very good. Great. I have a great pick. I'm going to throw something out there for weeks in the future. I just want to put it on the table. So it's there is Parent Trap.
00:44:16
Speaker
Oh, yes. Very good call, Nora. Love it. it's emma Old one or the new one? Old one or the new one? New, new, new, new, new. ah New new not good new one the one. Okay, also, there here's a thought for the future. Do we ever want to throw out the idea of a live watch?
00:44:33
Speaker
Yeah, when we're in Sweden, we'll watch a movie together. There we go. Yeah. I'm saying we could do that, or honestly, we could do it here, where we literally just like... all go, boom, start watching the movie and then we just talk over each other. We can try sometime. Let's try in person first though because then it's less technological. Let's do Sweden. Let's watch a Swedish movie.
00:44:53
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. like sentimental valley half more midsummer and sweden no i hate that movie. i hate that movie. Okay. signing off. Dang. Wait, we'll say we'll stay so that you can do the thingy, right? Because don't we have to stay on? and If you're on time next next time, you can be a part of jammy time.
00:45:13
Speaker
Jammy time. This time I was a little tired. I'm going to be honest. No, girl. I could tell. I was carrying. I was asking some good rapid fire questions. Jacqueline, you want to hear this? This is a rapid fire question I gave Evan. What kitchen utensil do you most resonate with?
00:45:32
Speaker
Spoon. That's so you. You're so spoon. Spoon. Wait, you didn't ask you' ask me. Bowls and spoons. Bowls and spoons. You're so great. Cereal boy.
00:45:46
Speaker
Evan's a can opener. He said that? Yeah. Interesting. I really resonated. As soon as he said it, I said yes. You know what I mean? i was just like you What were you? What were you?
00:46:01
Speaker
Yeah, what you, Nora? I was the host, so I didn't say anything. I'll ask Emma. Emma, what were what kitchen utensil do you most resonate with? i Two come to mind. I'll give you my first one, sputula.
00:46:11
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I thought. I thought you'd say something that. thought you'd give some weird, weird, weird...
00:46:18
Speaker
and things like that. why is that weird? That's like one of those useful tools. Good. Oh, we need to hear yours. Mine's weird. No, what's your special? I'll give you my second one. My second one is a cheese slicer. Totally. like Both right. Both right.
00:46:33
Speaker
Both right. Another one for Evan is a bagel slicer, and one for you, Emma, is a toaster, but it's turned all the way to seven. Yay! That is so you.
00:46:45
Speaker
What are yours, girly? I'm a spoon with holes in it. Oh. hollander Like, I, yeah. I really resonate. Wait, you, like, the one with the grabby? Like, the...
00:46:58
Speaker
No, not really. That's what I'm envisioning. Okay. I had the grabby, but I don't have it. It's one of those things where it's so much more useful if it was grabby, and it's just like, ah, it's so close. So you're a slotted spoon?
00:47:10
Speaker
I'm a slotted spoon. Okay. also I feel that I am a spork. Okay. you're a spoon with holes in it and spork. just like different spoons that are somewhat helpful. Different variations.
00:47:25
Speaker
Okay, fine. But not all the way. No, no, no. That's not bad. That's your selection. That's your answer. That's okay. I've changed my mind. I'm a slotted spoon and I'm a whisk. Yeah, whisk seems right to me. Whisk feels right. I'm a whisk. what but i call But not a metal whisk. I see like a fun colored whisk. Yeah, like I'm a KitchenAid mix. Like I'm a KitchenAid mixer.
00:47:48
Speaker
Yeah. What about those plastic? That feels too industrial to me, but... No, but I'm saying, you know how those like KitchenAid really distinct colors? Yeah, that's what I mean. You're like a color of whisk. I'm one of those. I'm like along the lines whatever that is. I don't know. But yeah I resonate with whisk. I'll stick with whisk.
00:48:07
Speaker
I like whisk. Okay. Carrying on with this. What's the late night snack you guys are going to go to then? What's your all time? What are you going to be associated with? Okay. Can I quickly throw a couple of things out there? Something that's just really funny. And I think you both would appreciate this. So I know that you guys are aware at love Island, right? You guys know the show. Mm hmm.
00:48:27
Speaker
So Love Island, there's a guy I'm not really watching it, but I my friends are kind of keeping me up to date. So there's this guy on it. The name is sincere and he's not the most well liked character. So everyone refers to him on social media as like insincere, genuinely anything else. else And um he always refers to himself as the third person. He'll be like, sincere, sincere doesn't do that. Like sincere likes her, like yada, yada. And then everyone's like, why is genuinely talking about him so much? Like why like talking about himself so much? And I just, I've written i've been finding that very humorous. Anyways, my late night snack is a
00:49:09
Speaker
gosh I don't know. Emma, what's your layman? Dude, toast. Of course it's toast. Or pizza for you. Like a little like frozen pizza that's good. If there's frozen pizza that's already been made, because I don't have the patience to make a frozen pizza, but if there's pizza in the fridge, I will eat it And if I'm making toast, like here, I don't ever have frozen pizza in the fridge, so I will just make toast and put butter on it and go to bed. There's nothing wrong... You know what? Jam toast, though.
00:49:39
Speaker
If you get some good jam toast... Yeah. Yeah. Butter, and if it's good sourdough or something like that... Yeah. i' like norraway why I don't like... Nora, I don't even know what you would... What would you say? what Like, sweet, though. You like something sweet.
00:49:56
Speaker
No. no No little billy bar? No, man. no I don't really like sweet. Like, I prefer salty. I don't really... prefer I mean, if I were to have a sweet, I'd have like a fruit, but not when I'm like, I'm thinking like this is a drunk food you're saying, or you always need a carb when you're drunk. I feel like I'm getting back from the bar and I'm like, kind of it's late and I need something to absorb before I go to bed. i would probably we have like pretzels. What's yours, Macklin?
00:50:31
Speaker
Cereal? cereal with granola bits in there maybe some raisins or i'm gonna do popcorn love popcorn pretty easy yeah you know what i'm doing like if i'm really trying to get like if i'm really have the time and the patience i'll make a little likequesadilla but but like like yeah grilled cheese something along those lines but if it's whipped Grilled cheese. Like if anything that's like quick that I i know that have at least it's a two ingredient, not anything more.
00:51:05
Speaker
I'll do that. Otherwise, like it's too much. There's probably too. It's too many kind of things going to where I would also do a frozen pizza if the if it's there. i You took my you you took my frozen pizza the last time I came home late. I remember.
00:51:21
Speaker
You took the bag. Yeah, you took it. That's fine. I didn't know that was your bag. I'm sorry. No, it wasn't my bag. I had my eye on it. I had my eye on it, but you had just taken me home from the bars, so I let you take it. yeah, you suggested it. I let you take it. Well, I wasn't going to tell you I needed a piece. You were like, take it, take It's like you son of a bitch. You took it.
00:51:46
Speaker
Oh, God. Well, you did drive me home, so I felt that it was warranted. i i was I'm always eyeing the pizza. The night before, night before, and I was very, i was like more drunk than I expected to be. And I went home earlier because I was, i was not even, i think I was like 18.
00:52:03
Speaker
think maybe. And I was lying down on the floor and I just feel plate placed on my, so like on my chest and it's steak with like broccoli and mash. It's like a full meal that we like, no, it was dad had like put it on my, and I was all they just lying down and mom and dad were like, Oh my God. They were like, Oh my God. And we started watching what's the knives out. What's the second one?
00:52:30
Speaker
It would just have onion. so it just come out and we're like starting to watch it i pass out with like steak in hand like steak in my god norah what wholesome evening you won't mom and dad have a very cute relationship you guys were going to other bars you guys were all going to other their bars and i couldn't get in anywhere else because can't like that bar oh that's right that's right oh yeah i ever mom and dad were just like okay like i guess we're just gonna take you home and i was like this is so sad i remember i remember on my way out, everyone in Evan's grade just came in, which is like I know multiple, I would like say a few of those girls. Yeah. And I just started, they all started talking to me. And I was like, oh my God, I'm so drunk right now. was like, oh my goodness. So drunk.
00:53:15
Speaker
The walls are caving in. this is when... doing like i I can't can't do it. But I was just like, ooh I need to get home. And that was my night.
00:53:26
Speaker
But what i was going to say is I also one time Barcelona coming back, we had a we went straight from the club to the airport because that was just like the easiest way. So we didn't want to go back to our hostel when I was abroad and everyone got McDonald's. And at the time I was like, I'm not going to get McDonald's like you because I had never had McDonald's really like.
00:53:48
Speaker
I can't remember the last time I had to have it. So I was kind of sticking with like, I'm never going to have McDonald's again. I got an airport salad with like balsamic vinaigrette and I ate it and it was maybe the worst. I sat there. This is the worst thing you could have after a night out.
00:54:06
Speaker
I remember just being like, I really like this. Yeah. lot of bacteria. or i Like 4 a.m. m It's probably a little wilted. Like nothing's good about it. I don't know why I chose to do that, but.
00:54:19
Speaker
Yeah. that like they always Always go for fries in that situation. That's the safest bet. Just fries. I know. What?
00:54:30
Speaker
what I said something that's probably fried or like fast food might actually be the safest bet in some of those situations. 100%. before I go on a plane, like probably something that's not going to cause any problems. But that was my not like fears. One of my fears, not fears really, but like once something that would be really horrible to happen that I've thought about is like getting having gastrointestinal problems on a plane, like on a long call.
00:55:00
Speaker
See, and then there's kind of like, what can you really do about that? Very little, and it's very public, and you have very little resources at your disposal. much. Like, also, so you're are you just like, get are you waiting at the bathroom until the bathroom, like, until the... I think you're taking up residence in the bathroom.
00:55:19
Speaker
ah but then everyone knows you have problems. but like or Or you're like tooting up a storm in the aisles, like everybody knows anyway. So like, I mean... I'll never forget.
00:55:30
Speaker
I was on. Oh, where was I? And the little kid next to me kept farting and he kept looking at me and laughing. And I was like, if you fart one more time, I will kill you. Like, will kill you. Doing this loud.
00:55:43
Speaker
Like, or was it silent? Was it, like, a silent? No, it was, like, a little tooth, and then it started to smell, and I was like, o oh, my God. And then he started farting, and then the mom goes, did you just fart? And I was like, girl, yes, he's been farting, and it's disgusting. I was like, I'm gonna kill him. Also, he was like, one of those little kids you could just tell was, like, annoying. Like, was just you're just so annoying. The fact that you're farting is making you so much worse, but
00:56:13
Speaker
It was fine. But I think if i'm in that in if I'm in that situation, I'm staying in the bathroom as long as I can. And I'm just maybe staying in there the whole time.
00:56:24
Speaker
Yeah, that's what I mean. You take up residence in the bathroom and they're just like, sorry, this one's out of order. i' depend I'm in there to limit. Here's the move for me. You wait as long as you can until you find a gap in the like if it's a long flight, you let the people go initially, and then you're like, okay, coast is clear. As long as you can hold out, then you go.
00:56:45
Speaker
Take up as much time as you need. Hopefully, you're not in there the rest of the flight. But you it's all about when you go because once you go, you're kind of stuck there. That's it. You can't make multiple. That's it. You got to kind of stay. I have a um a chance. If you're prior to the flight taking off, you're in the bathroom. There's already problems going on. You can sense it's going to be continuing. Are you missing the flight?
00:57:08
Speaker
Yes. Really? This almost happened to me. No. I don't. It resolve resolved itself like quickly enough, but I think I had food poisoning or something. This is why I've thought about this.
00:57:22
Speaker
And had one of those moments where all of the blood drains from your face and you get really sweaty. And you're like, my God, I... have to go there. You have to go there. Did you end up going? You're having You're having a medical emergency. Yeah. Yeah. No, it was fine. And then I got onto the plane. But do you know when that happens and you're like, there could be a second bout? Like, right. Like I am maybe not in the clear.
00:57:47
Speaker
Yeah. Yes. This could be the first of many ways. You can't trust anything. There's no to You can't trust anybody. No, no, no, no. Yeah, exactly. So I and let me tell you what this flight was for. i was leaving I was leaving Hawaii.
00:58:02
Speaker
so it's a long flight to San Francisco. I mean, it's like a five-hour flight. That's long. And, that's a long flight. That's long. And I was, like, i I was in the bathroom, and I was, like, if I feel a second wave of coming like, I went to the bathroom as we were boarding.
00:58:17
Speaker
So, like, it was i love that final know And I had a moment where I was like, it is much more worth it if I stay here and let this resolve as opposed to getting on a flight. So my answer is skip the flight.
00:58:30
Speaker
Okay. But are you like, let's say, let's say you, getpping the flight let's say, you know, you have a layover. Are you like, I'm going to try the first flight. I'll skip the second. No, I'm skip it. No, no.
00:58:44
Speaker
um I think you got to go. I think it goes it was like an hour long flight, whatever. i Like if it was from like I haven't felt well before going from Washington, D.C. to Milwaukee.
00:58:55
Speaker
That's a shortish flight. Fine. Whatever. i can. I've been like hung over whatever. That's not a big deal. But if it's a five hour flight and it's a gastrointestinal issue, absolutely not.
00:59:07
Speaker
Yeah, it's nightmare. What's your take on on some waking up and you have the guy next to you like on your shoulder a little? What do you doing? That's never happened to me. i hope I give off a vibe that would not allow for that. That's literally never happened to me.
00:59:20
Speaker
That's happened to me. yeah I like to think it's because I give off a mean enough vibe. Oh, I was getting cuddle bug like because both guys on both sides kind of older men. yeah Also, I was like, you know, it wasn't it? That's when you you know pull a big stretch off.
00:59:39
Speaker
Well, they weren't. it I think that's when you start. I think that's when you start tooting. Well, yeah. but i've seen like You know we smile like the kid. you go. um You smell that? That was amazing. It's a long flight. Yeah, strap in, ladies. We're going to be here a while. Respect the radius. Respect the radius. and money Yeah, that is that's right. You smell that.
01:00:07
Speaker
but I just had a can of milk before this. No, this is what I'm saying. is like I've had it before where i've I've dozed off and my head is bobbed into someone else's like like seat.
01:00:18
Speaker
And I've had to you know fix it. See, but i bob I bob back. I don't bob to the side. I only bob back. noticed I Sometimes, am up down of like Macklin, I'm a Macklin, bob. Macklin, like Macklin, I'm like Macklin, I'm Macklin, like bob. Macklin, a bob. Macklin, I'm like Macklin, I'm like a like a a bob. Macklin, a Macklin, like bob. Macklin, bob. Macklin, I'm like bob. Macklin, bob. like Macklin,
01:00:43
Speaker
Macklin, I'm bob. Macklin, like bob. Macklin, I'm a Macklin, like Macklin, like It's not a great picture. don't look but we do bob back. There's a lot of things that aren't good associated with that. So it's like, we'll leave that there in the corner of like our lives. We don't invade people's space.
01:01:03
Speaker
No. Speak for ourselves. I'm in a hoodie and sweatpants every flight I go on. I am. yeah on Wait, Macklin, do you put your, do you wear noise canceling headphones on an airplane?
01:01:14
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. Okay. Same. do you, do do you wear your headphones under, over your hood? i don't have the big headphones. Like, so the noise canceling for me are the AirPods. So I don't, i don't, uh, if you did have my version, which I think you should get, everyone should get a pair of these. What would you do over or under the hood on a flight?
01:01:40
Speaker
Uh, I could see both, but I would probably go under. i would probably go under. Thank you. yes Yeah. Yeah. Like I could see why people would go over, but like not under, I can't have anything. My ears are really sensitive anyway.
01:01:56
Speaker
I just can't have like certain AirPods don't fit well either. And like cause sensitive issues. So like my one we the over the ears, I know I probably should. I just didn't. I just never got like a pair. don't know. would love these because they don't bother your inner ear like that.
01:02:14
Speaker
i also think those are those are I don't have that great of hearing that I could hear through the hoodie. I need to be with Nora's. So Macklin, I wear my hoodie up and then put my headphones over it. Yeah. See, that's a little bit. That's a little crazy. It's a little crazy. i I can see it It's just not my first. ah Not what I would think of for myself. But I could see you doing it. That's why I was like, I could see on people doing it.
01:02:47
Speaker
It's nice for you. I mean, I could see you doing it, but. When you said it, I thought, Emma, Emma does this. i just thought, well, I was initially, my initial reaction, which I quelch, I was like, what? Like, what the fuck? And then I was like, no, people do it.
01:03:03
Speaker
Wait, why do I scream? Why do I scream? head foot Why do I scream headphones over the hood? i don't know what it is. i don't know what it is. You know what I mean? It's all those things.
01:03:14
Speaker
It's of those things where, like, also, if you told me, Emma, like, I'm getting water shoes that, because, like, you want to, you just get a little, like, that have the little, like, toes that have, like, the toe. Yeah. I think you're a creature of weird comfort sometimes. Like, weird things bring you comfort.
01:03:35
Speaker
So, like, it doesn't necessarily surprise me. It's not even a bad thing. not judging no I'm all that not judging it. No, it.
01:03:46
Speaker
You've read and you know, like, this is the hack that you need to be most comfortable. So you're living your best life. You're a very smart individual. So I trust your intelligence. So if you do something, I don't necessarily, I'm like, that's really weird. Why is she doing that? I go, that's weird. She's got to have a reason.
01:04:05
Speaker
She's got her reason for doing it. She's got the time to this, and she knows this is what she needs to do. haven't thought about that. If you said, I got these water shoes that are toes, yeah, because you know I don't like my toes touching, and I don't like getting water, whatever. I'd be like, yeah, totally.
01:04:21
Speaker
It's like, actually, you're supposed to wear wool socks and keens, and that's the most comfortable thing on flight. I'd say, of course, she's thought about this, because you have the comfort level, but still the aeration, or something like that. Yeah.
01:04:33
Speaker
right? Like you, it's courtous you wear you wear compression socks on flights. When I remember. Yeah. Yeah. That's one of those things. That's one of those things. And that, Hey, that's just like advised. That is what we're saying. It's not weird. It's smart. It's just like the compression socks, the water shoes with toes, the like hoodie under the record. I do not have water shoes. No, but I'm saying you would.
01:05:03
Speaker
Have I looked at them? Yes. Yep. There you go. There you go where you go. Because did we go to a beach in France and i was like, F no, am I doing this again? I'm getting myself a pair of jelly water shoes if I come back to France. Yeah.
01:05:16
Speaker
Right. You like to solve problems. that's And that weird little situation was a problem. It was a problem. Nora, those rocks were so uncomfortable. They were so spiky. And I love you. And here's the difference.
01:05:28
Speaker
After that experience, I said, I don't need to look up water shoes. I'll just go back and do it. After that experience, I said, I'm not going back without water shoes. Yeah, that's fine. That's just where we differ. That's okay. And that's why GMV time is awesome. were Okay. Can I also give a weird insight into the way my brain works?
01:05:47
Speaker
This just the my brain works. you know We'll con confirm if we agree. Like the way that, you know, like people have these like running kind of like thoughts or like interesting topics in their head that like when you have like a moment kind of to yourself, you're like, let me look back into this thing, whatever that thing is.
01:06:04
Speaker
Yeah. yeah For me, it's like random historical like time periods, events, World War Two, which is like, of course, like a cliche at this point. But.
01:06:16
Speaker
In terms of like so many people are like interested in a like straight white male kind of thing. Like, what are you interested in? Like, it was like the Shane Gillis thing where he's like, if you're interested in World War Two and you're a straight white guy, like you're if you're not a Republican, like you're going to become one, you know, like, it's just like that kind of thing.
01:06:32
Speaker
So I don't know why I was just imagining like in a tough situation, like Emma was describing before you get on the flight, you know, you're not feeling great. My mind immediately goes to like a historical speech that Winston Churchill gave the parliament before, you know, in the darkest hour before they were yeah you know, they were at that final point where the Nazis were on the doorstep.
01:06:59
Speaker
Do you guys have like an outro planned? Three, two, one. Talk over us with... Yeah, they're wrapping it up. We're wrapping it up. I love you guys so much. Hope you had a good time.
01:07:11
Speaker
Thank you! Woo!
