"I don't hate the man. Never will. I think he's a fantastic politician. But I don't think a fantastic politician is a compliment either." The 2020 documentary Boys State depicts a political experiment that takes place every year in Texas. Hundreds of 17-year-old boys gather and carry out a mock election cycle over a week’s time, and in 2018 a group of filmmakers capture the whole thing. We break down the film and what it says about our current political situation, as well as what might be hopeful about the film. I’m joined by documentary filmmaker Obed Lamy, who grew up in Haiti and has an interesting perspective on American politics. I (Andrew) also have a unique perspective on the film, because I attended Arkansas Boys State when I was 17. It makes for a very interesting conversation!
