Introduction to 'Verity' Podcast

00:00:00
Speaker
Welcome to Verity. I'm your host, Felicia Masonheimer, an author, speaker, and Bible teacher. This podcast will help you embrace the history and depth of the Christian faith, ask questions, seek answers, and devote yourself to becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ. You don't have to settle for watered-down Christian teaching. And if you're ready to go deeper, God is just as ready to take you there. This is Verity, where every woman is a theologian.

church history, biblical literacy, discernment, politics, culture, all the things that you guys love to talk about on Instagram, it's coming to this podcast. I'm Fi Mason Hymer and I am sitting here with my coffee so stoked to be starting this podcast and inviting you to join me

Purpose and Unique Approach

every week.

starting in January 2020. It's been a long time coming. I kind of held off on starting a podcast mostly because there are so many great podcasts out there. I don't want to just be another voice that is keeping you from listening to other great speakers and teachers in the Christian realm. But I also know that having the information that is shared on Instagram in a more permanent

and longer form location would be helpful to all of you. And so I am excited to be launching this podcast and I'm thrilled to invite you to send me your topics, to join in the conversation, and most of all, for us to journey together to a deeper faith in the living God, because that's ultimately what this is about.

Now we talk a lot about having a critical mind, about engaging with culture, about discernment and understanding scripture in its historical and literary context. But the point of all of that is for us to actually know Jesus Christ and walk that out as disciples. And so we're not having this podcast function as just a way to become Christian brainiacs, but to actually live as disciples of Jesus.

Format and Structure

And so
00:02:08
Speaker
A few things that I want to kind of set your expectation for going forward. We are not going to be doing interviews on this podcast. It is not an interview based podcast. And the reason for that is to fold first. It allows me to be more intentional about the content of each season. We'll get to that in a second.
00:02:32
Speaker
and prepare the content for you based on all the research that I'm doing. But more importantly, it allows me to be more present with my family. I'm simply not able to schedule interviews and coordinate with different time schedules with the time that I have currently running my business and ministry. So this will simply be a solo podcast where we discuss different topics and get into the history and
00:02:59
Speaker
the different logical and theological approaches to these issues. So we are going to do this in seasons and the reason I chose to do seasons is so we could have a specific focus for a frame of time, take a break and shift focus. Rather than going from topic to topic and giving you mental whiplash,
00:03:19
Speaker
I thought it'd be better if we focused on one particular topic for 10 weeks or so, take a break, and then start back up.

First Season Themes

00:03:27
Speaker
Starting in January, we are going to be focusing on a theme in my brand new book, Stop Calling Me Beautiful, which launches in February 2020, the victorious Christian life and what that looks like. So we'll be talking things like legalism and watered down Christian teaching, anxiety, grief,
00:03:47
Speaker
disappointment, bitterness, and more. All of these areas of life where Jesus has promised to overcome and how we can actually walk out victory in those areas. I'm excited you guys. Thank you so much for being part of my community. I hope that you'll join me weekly as Verity launches and as usual, never just take my word for what I'm sharing with you. Get out there and study it for yourself.
