Overcoming Imposter Syndrome Through Pottery

And on this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm gonna be talking about why you need to let your pottery do the talking for you so that it will help you get over imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome so you can start making pottery that you truly start, that you know that you believe is going to be good. You see, so it is, by the time I'm recording this, it is,

the NBA playoffs and I don't know about you, but I like watching playoffs, especially the Warriors. That's my team. I love that team. And but I was I like to watch like recaps of the game on YouTube.

And one of the recaps was it was Memphis Grizzlies versus LA Lakers. And Memphis was up like maybe they won one game. And one of the players name is Dylan Brooks. He started talking crap. He started talking crap about LeBron James, one of the best, you know, basketball players ever. And he started talking crap. He said that I like to poke bears and he's old.

But LeBron didn't really say anything back. He didn't say anything back. What he did though, he let his game show his worth. He let his game prove everybody wrong, prove him wrong. And because he let his game prove everybody wrong and prove Dylan Brooks wrong,

What is happening is that the Lakers ended up beating the Memphis Grizzlies for in a four three or four two game if series, so out of seven games they won four games.

Dylan Brooks shut up. He stopped going to interviews. He stopped doing other things. He shut up because LeBron let his game do the talking and he knew that he could back it up. And afterwards, after the series was over against Memphis, LeBron James started talking trash afterwards because he let his game talk, talk to talk and walk the walk. He knew what he was doing because it's the same thing

Like we have imposter syndrome. We have imposter syndrome in terms of like, we don't think our pottery is good enough. But the best thing that you can do to overcome imposter syndrome is let your pottery do the talking. Let your pottery do all that talking. Let your pottery show off your skills with your pottery. Because that's how you start overcoming imposter syndrome. By simply letting your pottery do the talking.

If you are only worried about if you are copying other people and you feel like you should be doing something different, then what's gonna happen is you will have the wrong mindset. And because you are stuck in that mindset of, oh, I'm just copying somebody else, oh, this has already been done before, then you are never gonna truly, you're never gonna truly find your own unique voice with your pottery. So that's why you have to let your pottery and your skills talk to talk or walk the walk.

The more you can improve your skills, the more your pottery voice is going to start showing up. Again, let your pottery walk the walk and talk the talk.

Success Leaves Clues: Learning from Others

You may be making something right now where you feel like it looks like somebody else's or it feels like it's just copying somebody else. But that's a good thing. Success leaves clues. And if you are modeling other potters right now, then that's a good thing. Start taking things that you like and then getting rid of the things that you don't like. But the most important thing to do is to let your skills do the talking.

because the more your skills develop the more your pottery is going to start looking like your own and other people are going to start noticing that as well and your pottery is literally going to start talking for itself it's literally going to start walking by itself it's going to show off your skills simply by just being there simply by doing the things that you love because that's why it's important to

Consistent Improvement and Self-Discovery

Don't listen to anybody else about your pottery. Focus on improving your pottery 1% at a time. 1% at a time, because those 1% stack and stack and stack and stack. And I promise you, eventually, if you just focus on building up your skills, then your pottery voice will show up.
