If you love pottery and want to take your skills to the next level, you're in the right place. Find your own pottery style right here on Shaping Your Pottery with Nick Torres. Let's get started. What is up, Shaping Nation? This is Nick Torres. And in this episode of Shaping Your Pottery, I'm going to be talking about how you need to notice the things that you hear, notice the things that you see and notice the things that you feel in order to find your voice or to expand it even further.
00:00:52
Speaker
You see, I'm part of this group, I guess you could call it, it's called Wake Up Warrior. And it's basically to teach a man to be a man, right? To be the type of man that they're meant to be, to have it all to in every area of their life.

The Importance of Truthfulness in Pottery

00:01:06
Speaker
And basically, one of the core concept in order to really be a man is to be truthful, be truthful into who you are, be real, be raw, and whatever it is. So I've been trying to practice that.
00:01:22
Speaker
in my own way of doing things. So I'm trying to be the man that I am meant to be. I'm trying to have it all in my life, because that is what I know I am destined to have. And basically, I was having a discovery call, as you could call it, with somebody from that group, from that team. And basically, he told me to hear what you hear, see what you see, and feel what you feel.
00:01:49
Speaker
And when he told me that, I thought that was such a great way to put things on how to actually really be your real self.

Avoiding Mimicry to Uncover Your Voice

00:01:59
Speaker
And this really applies to pottery as well. Because all two times, all two times, what we do in pottery is that we see pottery that other people are making and then we try to mimic it almost exactly. And when we mimic it almost exactly, then we're not truly doing something that we truly love, right?
00:02:19
Speaker
We may like what they're making and that's fine, but are we actually doing it for ourselves or are we doing it to try to make a quick buck, which is the downfall of
00:02:33
Speaker
making you not find your voice. If you are only doing it to try to make a quick buck, try to make a sale, then you're never going to find your own unique voice. And then eventually you're going to get bored of what you're making and then burnout is going to happen because you're not making what you actually want to make. You're not making for yourself. You're not hearing what you hear. You're not seeing what you're

Incorporating Unique Observations

00:02:53
Speaker
seeing. You're not feeling what you're feeling. So that's why it's important to notice these things. Like when you are
00:02:59
Speaker
driving with, let's say you're in the passenger seat and somebody else is driving. What are you noticing? What are you noticing that other people aren't noticing? It's those things that we notice for ourselves that that's what we truly like. That's the things that we should be incorporating into our pottery.
00:03:19
Speaker
Maybe as you're driving down, see, I have a very I live in a mountain, so I see a lot of trees and stuff, but I also see most of the time my eyes are drawn to hawks and birds. I don't know why, but they're always drawn to hawks and birds. But that's what I notice. Those are things that I notice with myself. I always notice myself looking at hawks, looking at birds, and I just notice myself looking at them. What are the things that you notice that you are looking at or hearing or feeling?

Personal Experiences in Pottery

00:03:48
Speaker
And how can you add those into your own pottery? And I ask you again, what are those things that you are hearing? What are the things that you're seeing? What are the things that you are feeling? For example, if you are if you are listening to a certain type of music, maybe it's.
00:04:03
Speaker
very upbeat and it gets you dancing, right? Those are things that you are hearing. How can you add that type of personality into your own pottery so that it really stands out? So your pottery becomes more than just trying to sell your party, it becomes more your own creative style, your own fluid way of making pottery, your own way to express your creative thoughts. You get to notice these things. And maybe if you are
00:04:30
Speaker
If you've gone through like a period of your life where things weren't going so well, but then something happened and things started to shift, what are you feeling in those moments? What are you feeling so you can portray a message, portray something that is truly, maybe it's your own life story into your pottery, right? What are you feeling in those moments? It's really important to notice these, what you're hearing, what you're seeing, what you're feeling.
00:04:56
Speaker
Because that's where your true authentic and your true pottery voice is going to come out. If you notice these things that you are seeing, that you're hearing and that you are just feeling. So you have to notice these things.

Engagement: Send Your Questions to Nick Torres

Otherwise, it's going to be a lot harder to actually find your voice. You have to slow down a little bit and you have to notice these things so that that way you can take a quick step back and ask yourself, how can I imply what I'm hearing, what I'm seeing and what I'm feeling into my own pottery?
