Speaker: Welcome to the Italian football podcast. Let's discuss Jose Mourinho's future because he gave a long press conference after the game that the first question that he was asked in the press conference wasn't about the game and the final, losing the final in such a heartbreaking way. It was about Jose Mourinho's future.
Speaker: It's hard to know what to make of his answer because he didn't really say anything really. He didn't commit. What he told Sky after the game I thought was very interesting because he was very careful. He thought about his answers. He was very calm and composed when he gave that interview.
Speaker: And he chose his words very carefully and took his time and said that he objectively can't confirm that he will stay next season, that he has been honest with the ownership from day one. He's not in contact with any other club. The only time he was in contact was when Portugal contacted him and he was clear to them with the ownership then, but that they haven't spoken about it since December.
Speaker: and that if there is time to do it between now and Sunday, they will do it, otherwise they'll talk later. He's got one year left on his contract and that's the situation. So he wants to talk about the future. He's sending a very clear message that he wants to talk about the future and that he's now waiting for the Friedkins to reciprocate.
Speaker: That's what I got from this, that he's open to staying. I've got to say, I don't know if this is tactics, but my read of it was, now that I've thought about it, I've re -watched it, it was sincere. I think he's open to staying. I think he's open to staying. I think what he wants is guarantees from the ownership that they're going to invest to take that next step.
Speaker: Yeah. If I had to put a bet on now, I think he stays. The reason for that is this. If he is going to leave Roma, I think where does he go? Now, looking at the big jobs that are available in Europe, the teams that Mourinho would be prepared to leave this Roma team that he's built,
Speaker: there's only two potential big jobs available. There's PSG, who Galtier is leaving. Now, I understand he's on the short list at PSG, but I understand that he's not one of the first choices at PSG. And then there's Real Madrid. Now, Real Madrid is a bit of a, we're not quite sure what's gonna happen there. Carlo Ancelotti's there. We know Brazil won Ancelotti. We know he's Brazil's first choice. But,
Speaker: it's not quite clear whether Ancelotti is going to stay or whether he's going to go to Brazil. So there's no guarantee right now, maybe Mourinho I'm sure would know more than us about that, whether that job is going to be available and if that job does become available.
Speaker: Is Mourinho the first choice? I mean, I'm sure he'll be an option, but, you know, I would say basically what I'm saying is there's no guarantee on those two jobs. Apart from Real Madrid and PSG, there's nothing else available in terms of big team. Madrid with Bayern have got their new coach now. Too sure he's going to be there next season.
Speaker: Um, uh, Italy, I mean, there's no, there's no way he can go in Italy. He's not going to go to Juventus. Um, and I mean, is he going to go to, he's not going to, is he going to go to Inter or Milan? I mean, where, where's he going to go in Italy and in England? No, he's not going to Napoli either because ADL and him hate each other since, since way back.
Speaker: And in England, there's nothing in England at all. There's nothing in Chelsea, we've got Pochettino, Arsenal, Arteta's going to be staying. Tottenham, he's definitely not going back to Tottenham after what he said before the game. I loved it when he said the Leavy club, or the Daniel Leavy club. Manchester United have got 10 hug, he's staying. City, Guardiola, I mean, even if Guardiola suddenly decides to leave after winning the treble,
Speaker: city are not going from Guadon to Boridio. And Liverpool, Klopp, even if Klopp does leave, which is probably unlikely now, but it's not impossible. They're not, again, they're not going for Mourinho. They're not going for that kind of style change from a Klopp style manager to a Mourinho manager. He's not going to go to England. The big six are all taken. So, yeah, based on that, one year contract left at Roma, I think
Speaker: No, I think they will. I think he will stay. I hope he stays and I think that more importantly, Mr. Friedkin needs, the Friedkin's need to understand what team they have and they have a team that is fully united behind their manager. They have a fan base who loves their coach. He has built a fortress, us against the world and everyone is united behind him.
Speaker: Um, and I think, or the not everyone, but overwhelming majority of Roma fans and pundits are behind him. And I think that's why I think that he, I think common sense will prevail. They will sit down and say, look, what kind of investment can we do? Who can we bring in? They've already started bringing in, in, in, um, midfielders and,
Speaker: you know, Awar seems to be done and they need to strengthen every area of the pitch. I think a new goalkeeper is also, I like the Vicario links. I think Vicario would be outstanding at Roma. And I think if he were to go there, given how they play, I think he would suit them far, far better than Simone and Zagya Inter. So I think there's work to be done. And if they can do that work, if they can make those investments,
