Speaker: Welcome to the DIY guys the podcast where home renovations, power tools and mild panic go hand in hand. I'm Nick Morris. And I'm Dan Doher. Each week we'll be chatting with some property pros, some DIY diehards, hopefully help you with some tips and tricks along the way.
Speaker: Welcome back to the DIY ah Guys podcast. As always, I'm joined by my very talented co-host, Nick Morris. How are you doing, mate? Very well, thank you. how are you? Yeah, not too bad. Not too bad. As the people on YouTube can see, my nose is red, which means one thing. I've been on holiday. It's your standard a move, isn't it? Red nose. Exactly that, yeah.
Speaker: So ah no DIY was done. You must be pleased though, right? Yeah. So nice not to do DIY. Yeah, well, it's nice to get away with the family, right, and not worry about anything. Yeah, so where did you go? Tell everyone. So, yeah, me, my wife Christy, and our little boy Dylan, we went off Italy, flew out to Pisa, and did the Cinque Terre, which is like five towns in Italy. It's just pizza, pasta, and ice cream for a week. Oh, so good. Love that place. Yeah, Dylan, my son was running around like a nutcase, fueled on ice cream half the time. So, is he getting one scoop or does he get bigger? Yeah, well. Because they're massive out there, aren't they? Yeah, like we were small and like, Jesus Christ, they're absolutely massive.
Speaker: And well, the only problem is he'll try and eat it, but it melts where it's hot. It'll like melt quicker than he can eat it. So, it was an absolute nightmare. and But no, we had there we had the best time and unfortunately yeah your weather here didn't match what we had. oh yeah, it's been it's but a great time for you to go away because been in June and it's been so awful, hasn't it? Even today we've had like a storm and sunshine, like everything going on, thunder and lightning, there's a rainbow out the front and then Lydia was loving earlier. Just mental, so what a good time of year to go away for you. I think I saw, um going off on a segue, obviously, like me and you both love bit of golf. You see, it was snowing at St Andrew.
Speaker: No, no way. Yeah, on the old cross. How's it that cool? I know, yeah. I feel like global warming actually is seriously happening. Everything's not right in the world, is it? Everything's going weird, isn't it? Yeah, I think there's people, these activists are right and we should do something about it. Yeah, but I feel like...
Speaker: I don't know. We would both love to play St Andrews one day. Oh, yeah. And you'd be like, right, yeah, June, like, wherever's going to be Pucca. And then you'd arrive and it's, like, snowing and you would be fuming, wouldn't you? Also, it's our mate Rob's 40th, so we could have well done it this year. Yeah, that's true. And gone up there. That's what puts me off about going up there to play because everyone says it's, like, one the old first courses and stuff where golf was balled.
Speaker: And it just looks so sparse and difficult and windy. And get rain, it just looks like impossible. I wonder if flight in the summer is easier. Will it be less windy? It's got to be.
Speaker: It's got to be. But it looks really hard. Yeah. I wouldn't like to pay like the fortune it costs to pay that. And then it'd be like raining the whole time. Also, don't want to play with you guys anymore because every time I play, I'm the only one who hasn't had a hole in one. It's getting a bit annoying, even though i' hopefully got a long life left. but And also, you're the best golfer as well. I'd rather have the hole in one. It'd be worse. That's true, yeah. So frustrating. And playing with Rob, who's had two, Dave has had one, and you've had one. Very annoying.
Speaker: But you know you've got it to come, mate. I was listening to the Peter Crouch podcast this week and he's never had one. Really? he plays golf like three times a week. Like, statistically, if you pay that amount, you're surely, yeah. I know, you think He was like, oh, should we do a whole day just do one hole over and over again? He's like, no, it's got to be authentic. It's got to be properly playing. And he's already told me, this is happy. If he gets when he's not coming home, I'm massive all day. I was like, oh, man, that sounds awesome. So good. Yeah, welcome to the golf podcast. Yeah. So you must be tired. You got back today.
Speaker: Yeah, I got back today. Not too bad, to be fair. You know what it's like traveling with like little kids. Although, I can't complain. Dylan... He was like quite tired when we got on, and then the seatbelt was iron turned off, and then he just sort of laid down and then went to sleep. Oh, that is that's amazing. So, yeah.
Speaker: Oh, that is so good. he slept He woke up for landing. Oh, that is good. I'm so annoyed. Liddy has never done that in her whole life and never will. is so annoying. So, yeah, he must have slept for about an hour, which is pretty good for him. so yeah That's what's so good about Italy as well. It's so quick, isn't it?
Speaker: Yeah. So you just I can't think of a single fault of Italy. It's so good. always feels safe even though you hear all these like mafia rumours in certain places like Naples and stuff. Yeah, yeah. brother went to Naples and loved it. Oh, didn't it? So there's just nothing to fault. That's why I want to go there during an October half term maybe. So first ever school holiday trip and for Lydia when she's five. because i'm sure it's going to cost nine times the price. yeah Yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm shopping around for like the cheapest flight and the cheapest hotel now. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: Well, the thing is it like... You can do it quite cheap. Like we did it um on a budget because we had our companion voucher. Oh, you used yours as well, yeah. you say yeah i think don't you I don't think it costs anything.
Speaker: Yeah, I think they're charging a nominal. Like I think when I was looking for October half turn, they were going to charge us a fiver per person. Yeah. it's £15 for, and I was like, that's awesome. For flights, yeah. You have to spend, was it £15,000? Yeah, this is true. But doing like anyone who's renovating at home is so easy, unfortunately, to spend £15,000. Yeah, exactly that. I'm nearly there on Emily's Amex at the bungalow the moment because I've got the bathroom to pay for. Coming up, that's about four grand. So unfortunately, getting to 15 is a doddle these days.
Speaker: Well, the only annoying thing is when like you go to pay for something, oh, we don't accept Amex. But you see the PayPal button. Yeah, they're doing free PayPal for the Amazon there. Yes, come on. I've got, Phil got 80,000 points at the moment. Wow, nice. yeah I'll make tell he's got like 300,000 points at the moment. That is insane. We must be able to business or something for free. I'm so jealous. Yeah.
Speaker: But yeah, what else did you do out there then? So yeah, lots of sightseeing, some hiking. Like I was saying to you earlier, I had to carry Dylan on this massive hiker. was in absolutely bits after that. So i have to treat myself to a nice cold beer and an ice cream after that one.
Speaker: Emily and I have never liked hiking, but we like we do do we did used to do it, but for like a maximum of two hours. We'd have loads of snacks and it needs to have like a goal at the end, like a pub or an ice cream shop or something, like a reward. Yeah, yeah. It's like doing, there's people that do it for like nine hours or whatever, or just days, that's just meant Well, we did the hike between two towns and they said you can walk between all five towns in a day. And you're like, what's the podcast? Yeah, that doesn't sound fun at all. So you want to enjoy it as well. Yeah, exactly. yeah So we walked to this nice town, had like a little um marina. You could jump in, did a bit of swimming, cream. Perfect. Oh, the sea must be cold.
Speaker: Yeah, like not freezing, but it is quite chilly. Yeah, we're pathetic. We can't brave Well, Dylan's not a fan of colds. When we took him to Folkestone the other week, the waves come in. He was all excited.
Speaker: And then they hit his feet and he was like, ah! His Folkestone? What did you expect? His eyes go. Oh, God, I swear, some kids just don't give a shit. No. They could just do it. i just On holiday, there was this, like, pool, massive pool. You know, it so big, know, it's definitely not going to be warm it's huge. Yeah. And they had, like, a giant, like, 20-foot inflatable thing with water coming down. there You could climb up and, like, bounce down it. It was awesome. Nice, yeah. And i was like, okay, let's go in there. And me and Lydia just could not get in. Yeah. We're like, it i be will be fun. She's like, yeah, I really want to go. I'm like, yeah, I do too. I was like, are you going? It's freezing. You can't even just fake it and do it for one time. And even like, I swear, you used to be able to get in and you'd be like, oh, it's cold. And then when you were in, it was fine. Now, it's still freezing. know. I am pathetic, though. Too spoiled with nice pools and heated pools. Just have to wee in it and then it'll heat up. Yeah.
Speaker: ah Maybe that's the problem. They banned all weeing in the pool and now everyone's freezing. Lydia's actually really good at not weeing in the pool. But once, she's like, she just definitely did it, but then didn't own up to it And then we're like, you haven't weed in ages. You must have weed. You said you wanted to ween, now you don't need to ween. She's like, didn't. I promise. of A pinky promise. You're like, oh, if she says pinky promise, then ah feel like I can't say no even. I know you've definitely peed in the pool. It's complete lie, yeah. And he's like, hey, it's disgusting. I was I think a lot of people are peering off. Yeah. I'm sure that's what the camera was for. Yeah, exactly that. Yeah, also, like, Dylan now just, we're, like, trying to potty train him and stuff.
Speaker: He was just like, oh, need a wee. And there was one time we were out, and we're like, oh, like, we were in, like, park or something, so I took him over by a tree, and I was like, oh, I'll do a wee on the grass. He was like, no, no, no. was like, no, it's fine. You can do it and now. Like, even on the beach, he was like, i need a wee. And he just pulled his nappy down, shorts down, just, like, weed on the floor. Everyone must be looking at us, like, oh, God, Brits of I forgot Lydia did the first Wild Wii as well. I think she's only ever done one with um Emily's mum and dad when they're in the park. They just couldn't get to the toilet sometimes. They took her for a Wild Wii and she must have forgotten. And we were driving to Surrey the other week and got caught in the world's worst traffic on the motorway. It was like 40 minute delay type thing.
Speaker: And she went before we got in the car. She's like, please go. She's like, yeah, yeah, And she was watching the iPad, so she was completely out bed. She was like, need a wee. was like, oh, you can hold it though, right? Could just be? was like, no, no, really, bust it. I was like, what? Turns out, didn't realise my mum gave her loads of Ribena-type style. She drank loads of it. was like, oh, right, come then. And I got into one of those lay-bys that sells strawberries and stuff. And I bent down, and I had to hold her while she squatted. She didn't know what she was doing. But then she started. was like, okay, fine.
Speaker: And then she weed for like 90 seconds. And I like, oh my God. And she just started laughing. And started laughing. And all these truck drivers are driving. And was like, Jesus Christ, this so awkward. But she was just cracking up because she was like, I've never done this before. Yeah, I'm going for like two minutes whatever. It's always the worst time, isn't it? was getting tired holding her as well. Skinny arms and just shaking. Yeah. And didn't even go like that far into the bushes. was like, she's going to a little wee, a little wee. And I was like, Jesus Christ, I'm going to cover her up. She just found the whole thing hilarious. Probably went on Wild Wee everywhere now. Well, that's good, right? Because I always think if you're negative about stuff, kids really hold to it. Oh, yeah, yeah. She's all right.
Speaker: She's got that. I think it's easier for boys, though, isn't it? It must be so easier to go for a Wild Wee like, yeah, fine. Yeah, yeah. if you hold her while she's squatting. Don't wear your shoes. Don't wear your trousers. I forgot to bring a tissue. I was like, for God's sake. think that's it. When they're like out of nappies, you then aren't prepared. yeah I'm so glad we're down the line where she generally can just hold it and just go to the toilet by herself. That's glorious. Absolutely glorious. That's the dream. That is the dream.
Speaker: So we've rabbited on, but how has the bungalow been going? It's like all guns blazing. It's amazing. It's finally kicking into gear. um I've made a couple of good decisions where I've sort of... Pat yourself on the back. Yeah, I'm going to pat myself on the back because we've got several good tradesmen who just work in crazy ways because they've got like crazy... crazy amount of work, crazy amount work. My plasterer in particular, Jimmy, he's amazing 10 out of 10 plasterer, but he literally, he prioritises, obviously, the people that give him most work, like my brother with his garden rooms. So once a month,
Speaker: If Chris says, I need you on this day, he's going to give him that day. yeah And he's got that with so many builders. So for people like me, he just doesn't book out a slot. He'll just come and do like one room, shoot off again, do another room, shoot off again.
Speaker: And he's generally cheaper than this other plasterer who I've decided to go with, who's the builder's plasterer. And again, he's really good, but he is more expensive. But he just works in a completely different way. He's like, um I'll give you five days.
Speaker: I'll quote for the bedroom one, bedroom two, hall, living room. And then when I'm there, I'll have a look quoting for the kitchen and the extension works. um Do you want to go ahead? Yes or no? I've i've actually got availability next week. So was like, pfft.
Speaker: I've just got to do it. I was like, in my head, I'm working for a September finish. yeah. So speaking to everyone. even i don't even know if I'm using him yet I'm going to paint myself. But I thought I'll speak to my painter. say, can you do August, for example? Yeah. um I'll speak to my flooring guy and carpet guy. Can you do August? And just try and work, think all the way to the last jobs and work my way backwards.
Speaker: Yeah. um And so all of a sudden it's gone amazingly. And then the other thing I've done is my plasterer also used to do my dot and dabbing. But asked Toby the builder if he's ever done it. He's like, yeah. Number one fan. Number one fan. He was like, yeah, I'd do it. I really like doing it. And actually I ah quite like it as like a Saturday job. So if I need some Saturday work, it's not like, it's hot it like hard, but it's not like digging a hole or whatever as a builder. They've been doing a segue here. They've been doing a hand dig.
Speaker: foundations no with no access and no digger and there's there's so little access because i think you have to go through a garage or something and climb up or is it down must be down down to the garden like 20 foot drop so even when they're digging up the stuff of the soil and the stuff of the foundation ah the only place to get rid of it is take down the end of the garden and wheelbarrow oh my i said They said they're doing four days though. i was quite impressed. Wow, that is impressive. Yeah, don't expect. That must have taken like eight weeks. Yeah, it's so amazing. And all the crappy weather we've had. They found like old vices in there stuff like that. Anyway, so I was like, that's really impressive. So he said Saturday work, you like something like Dot and Dabbing. Yeah, And I said, this is it something that I can do? he said, yeah, but you said,
Speaker: It's surprising how long bits like round windows can take. And, you know, if you do the first one, you're like, oh, that's good, but it's slightly out. How it can literally affect, like, as the boards go further down the wall, it gets more and more out, more and a wonky room all a sudden. And i was like, oh, it's going to take me so many man hours I don't really have. yeah I've finished one job that's my rewire. I've done 50% of the house. I'm coming back in, like, two months' time to the other 50%. Nice. But I've just got too many jobs going on. So I was like, I'm just going to bite the bullet with money for the plasterer and bite the bullet with money with Toby doing the dot and dabbing. And it will speed things along and it's done exactly that. So all the dabbing is now done. He did it in two days. Wow. So for me, that probably would have been like probably four or five days for me doing it. Might have cocked it up. Might have spent money on stuff. are More plasterboards. Exactly. I luckily had 15 sheets there and he literally used all 15. It was like perfect. as Oh, wow. That was unbelievable bit of luck. um
Speaker: And then, yeah, with the plaster, he literally started today. So i haven't even been there, but I think he would have started. if My logic would be you start in the front grand's old room probably. Yeah, yeah. Because that needed the most work. It had like um a rough finish on one the walls, he said. So he's going to mesh it and do it properly. It's one of those things he was like,
Speaker: I can do it for 500 or 600 just plastering and bonding. Or what i would recommend is a couple of walls need a mesh and more bonding doing it properly. And it's when I'm thinking, oh, I'm selling it. But morally, you've just got to do it right. Yeah, I think you do notice that. I think so as well. And he's like, cracking could appear if you don't do the mesh and the other stuff. So I was like, fine. And so that was more like eight, 900. Yeah. But again, one of those things is like, you've got to do it properly.
Speaker: And like I'm going to talk about later with the kitchen I've ordered, i' could have gone cheaper, but I've gone for like what the same kitchen as I have in my house. I just, I believe if you spend the money, if you can afford to, you'll get it back again if you do really nice stuff. Yeah, I think so as well. And also, you're you're selling it. I always think you can tell something that's been done up to sell because you look at especially kitchens. they just You can so see, obviously, like dodgy countertops and all the units and stuff just don't look great. Yeah, i think you can tell a cheap kitchen quite easily like or flat pack ones or things. You just tell the quality is not quite there. Especially when you're opening doors and looking at it properly. yeah Sometimes you're like, it looks fancy. But when you start to like look closely, think you can tell.
Speaker: um So, yeah, so I'm glad to say it's like all guns blazing because the builders finished, as in everything to do with the house extension, all of that, that's all paid for. And now he's started the porch.
Speaker: um So Toby knocked down the porch. um Looks so much nicer already. wow. Almost to the point where like, shit, should I just have not built a porch? Yeah. And the crazy paving went nearly up to the front door as well. So you sort of could have probably done something with like a step or something. and Yeah. But again, I looked at the neighbour's house and i was like, I've got quite a bit of work at the moment pay for stuff. So...
Speaker: I think it's it's not unattractive house, but it's not the most attractive house. So the porch again will help be that like, oh, this is a nice looking... Yeah. And the neighbours opposite porch is so nice. I'm just going to copy that. Yeah. um So again, it's one of those things i'm like, oh, I could save money here. Yeah.
Speaker: but I'm not going to. I'm going to do the right thing and hopefully it pays off in September, basically. Definitely. And I feel like whether or not you're renovating your house you live in or one to sell... I know some people renovate it to a low spec because they're selling it, but I feel like those little extras, although they do mount up, they're so worth it. like You do appreciate them further down the line. Yeah, exactly. And even...
Speaker: My thinking with the porch is such a minute thing, but A, it's security because um my granals used to like, you open the front door and obviously the porch is locked, so then you've got a bit more security. But B, it's storage. So the neighbours opposite, they've just put blinds in and on one wall, they've just got coats, like hanging up, umbrellas, shoes. Because if you go to Gran's at the moment, you walk in, you've got a hall and there's literally nowhere to hang a coat. It's like, it's narrow.
Speaker: So you're like, okay, so you're going into one of the bedrooms to hang a coat. So it's just another thing I think is a little selling point of, oh, this kitchen has now got quite a lot of storage. This bedroom's got storage. The porch has got storage. You know, the utility room. It's like all these little tick boxes I'm just trying to do yeah make up for other things where you're like, oh, this is a small bedroom or this is that and just as many tick boxes as i can. Yeah. And I feel like if someone's, when you come to sell it, when you walk into that house, if you're like in a porch, take your shoes off. Yeah, true. It's nice. Then you walk into the house. Whereas I feel like if you walk straight in and take your shoes off,
Speaker: then it doesn't feel as nice. Yeah, exactly. You're then like in a hallway and all kind of crowded around. It just feels a bit nicer getting to the porch, taking your shoes off. Yeah. so obviously, I think I said on a previous episode, it's costing me and my brother way more than I anticipate. i think it's going to be about seven grand, the porch. And that's even including the glazing. So probably more like eight. um But I still think it's going to be worth it. And anyway, made the decision now. Yeah, it's done. That sounds quite good for a porch, though. Yeah. I was thinking more like fire in my head, but um there's asbestos soffits running the whole way across, which went into the porch and sort of above it and round. So that all has to get ripped off and disposed of properly. It's obviously a new roof. The pitch roof goes into the flat roof, so all of that needs sort of yeah ripping off a teeny bit, adjusting, making sure it's all watertight properly. And then a smaller, coarser brickwork at the bottom. glazing, a new front door, a new porch door. yeah So there's those things you're like, oh, wow, this is like totting up.
Speaker: But like I said, i um I think it's going to be worth it and I think it helps sell it. I think a porch is a an unnecessary thing for people, but it's like a tick like a utility room. It's something you don't need, but it's a bonus. Yeah, I think they're underrated. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: Actually, well, I want a porch on my house and it's on the to-do list. So hopefully I sell grand and build another porch. Yeah. This is the DIY porch podcast. Yeah. yeah but um So, yeah, so that's gone well. And plastering, I can't wait to go there tomorrow because I'm working. I've got a half day at my house tomorrow, i actually, building my outdoor barbecues getting finished. Oh, amazing. Dave needs my help for a bit just to help get a few. I think he basically needs me to do a few of the cedar wood bits at the bottom, getting all level.
Speaker: Yeah. Obviously, once he's got the first couple level, he can then go off a bit and doesn't need me as much. Yeah. um So I'm going to help him in the morning and I'm going to go over to the bungalow and I'm going to um do the plasterboard in wall, the stud work um in the extension. So i I've got to take one board off as my first job because I literally put a plasterboard on the wall.
Speaker: i but forgot to insulate it. So my first job. And you know what else I think is in there? my tape. I was like, oh, now I've lost my tape. was like, oh, well, at least I've got to take it off. So it's not in there, I don't know where it is. Because I literally had two tapes, one where I'm cutting my plasterboard and one where I'm measuring in the other room. Yeah. And then it was just gone. So I was like, I'll bet it's in there. But it's so annoying when you have to do anything in life twice. Oh, yeah. It's not going to take me more than 10 minutes, or 15, no, 10 minutes, but even still whipping off and pointing it on it and it's annoying. Having to do it. It's so irritating. Yeah.
Speaker: So how's the outdoor kitchen going? I'm very excited. i haven't seen it yet, so I'm looking forward to it. It's good. Well, you're coming over for a barbecue in... a couple of weeks. Yeah, what, 10 days' time, something that? So I invited Dave, who's helping me build it, to put pressure on him because he did loads and then just like got loads of work.
Speaker: yeah um He's my brother's business partner, but he's in the garden rooms. And they're just back to back to back to back to back. And he had a bit of a nightmare where he... um He's never done anything like this in his life. He reversed into a client's wall where his tire just nicked it, not the actual truck. And it sent a massive crack down the wall. So I think he lost like a couple of days where he had take this bit of wall apart, build it back together. And he's a complete perfectionist. So obviously he just did it properly and it took loads of time. So I've lost a couple of days, but I thought by inviting him, was like, I have got to invite him because he built it. But B, at the same time. He's also our friend, isn't he? Yeah, exactly. And he's a friend.
Speaker: At the same time, I was like, if I invite him, he's definitely going to finish it. Yeah, yeah like yeah. So, yeah, so he's going to do all the cedarwood like cladding on it. um um I'll put little lights in there. So i bought little decking lights because we've got little alcove.
Speaker: Nice. And I was like, oh, i need like a waterproof light, obviously. But someone I was like, want can use. was like, decking lights, they're perfect. They're obviously built to be outside. Yeah, genius. um So I've done a little free. It's so unnecessary, but it's like I could do it for free. Why the hell not? um And then we're gonna have like a fridge in there, couple of like cupboards of the gas canisters, pizza oven. You need to teach me how to use the pizza oven. It's either burnt or it looks really good, but the dough is not cooked. Well, I think that's the hardest thing is getting the bottom crispy, right? Yeah. The rest of the thing. not I've obviously got it on too high, I think, when I've done it before. But all the kids, I was like, kids love pizza. It's weird they're not eating it. and then I try a bit, I'm like, oh, right. It's like raw. It's disgusting. Yeah. So it looks so good, but it's completely raw. So maybe you can help me on the barbecue day.
Speaker: Yeah, i'll give you I'll definitely give you a hand. But I made the mistake of thinking no one's around because of just life. and Yeah. There's 20 adults and 12 children coming around. It's where any time try and organise something that is not an inconvenience, you're like, oh, it's like no one turns up. And then now you've put that on there, everyone's like, yes, definitely. I know, and I really just want to not cook. i just want i I'm trying to think of the best way of dinner. I think I'll do some in the oven in the house, some on the barbecue. Just try and do as quick as possible so no one moans. Yeah, and you don't want to be standing there cooking all day. Exactly, we I don't. I want to socialise, have drink. Yeah, exactly. But it's going to be interesting to see how the kids get on because it's such like a variation of ages. Yeah, massively. Quality, though. My brother's coming now because he wasn't.
Speaker: So Lydia only knew your Dylan. And I was a bit like, there's going to be like seven, kids there whatever. She only knows one. don't think it's going to be that great. But now my brother's coming with my two nephews. So she's going to be like, she's fine. She's going to bring them out of the shelves. And hopefully she doesn't mind six other kids playing with all her shit. It's the only thing I'm worried about. It's a big thing. But I don't know these kids. They're playing with all my stuff. Yeah, exactly that. So hopefully she deals it well. Yeah, outdoor barbecue, we'll finish tomorrow. Boom. So excited by that. love it. Tick it off. And also my garage is full of so much stuff, so I can't wait to clear it. Got the cedar wood, I've got a fridge thing in there. I'm just like jumping around this stuff the time. I've got a skirting for the bungalow. yeah. So now that's being plastered. That skirting goes across, I'll finally get my garage back. There's something nice about like getting rid of all the stuff. It's so good. So satisfying. So yeah, so back to the bungalow.
Speaker: yeah i love the plastering stage. It's so exciting. I don't know how plasters do it because yeah like ah i must be They must just be used to right? it's such a hard job, but it must be quite like mentally tough just to do every day.
Speaker: But it's such a nice stage where it's all done all clean. Yeah. like Very few jobs that you go in the morning and then you come out and it looks yeah finished. Yeah. And where you've been looking at chases for cables and chases for pipe for ages and all of a sudden they're just gone.
Speaker: You're like, oh, that's so nice. Even the walls, I think... Your gran's place is probably like similar to mine. like They don't look great. Yeah, exactly. They've had wallpaper. Yeah. But they always look sort of a weird plaster, isn't it? They used to use it. It just doesn't look nice. And then like that new, fresh plaster is actually like really nice looking. It's a nice colour. One of our bedrooms, is ah the paint is called dried plaster because it's just a nice colour.
Speaker: ah Some people polish plaster, don't they? Yeah, yeah. It actually is a really nice colour, generally, to have in a room. But yeah, so that's I'm totally excited to go there tomorrow and see. I just wish he could just finish. yeah But I want him to do the kitchen because the other big thing I've done is order the kitchen. Amazing. I'm just like, I've got to get things going. And the only way for to get things going is to order stuff like the kitchen. yeah. Because then all of a sudden you're like, oh, carpenter is coming in at the end of June.
Speaker: Can you put me in? Oh, shit. It get plastered. Plaster Can you plaster it? Plumber, have you run all your pipe? Stuff like that. um I have first fixed the electrics the other week. So that was all right. There was more, there's way more electrics in the kitchen than plumbing.
Speaker: Yeah. because Because it's all open plan kitchen, living room. we've got a massive radiator in the living room and one in the hall and one near the utility to compensate for no radiators in the kitchen. Yeah. There's wall space. Yeah.
Speaker: um You didn't go under floor? No, I was going to go under floor, but it's concrete floor. So have to like I'd have to put a subfloor in probably of like insulation, then it's different levels. I was going to say, it would be weird, wouldn't it? cause you would have then be not Exactly, you'd have to step up to it. um It might only be narrow, but if you don't put insulation on concrete floor, it just goes to nothing. yeah You don't like retain the heat as much. And the plumber said the though there'd be enough heat everywhere yeah um from the other radiators. So all he had to do was drop one pipe down for the sink in the kitchen and then obviously the waste coming out of that because next to the sink is the dishwasher other than that it's all electric you've obviously got fridge freezer induction hob um everything else is electric so he doesn't have to worry so it's kind of good nice um in our old house we didn't have much space in our kitchen and they actually had like under the
Speaker: Under the kitchen cupboards, you would have like little heaters. Oh, I've seen those before. Like little electric heaters. Yeah, I put one in for our mate. It's quite a clever idea, If don't see it Where you haven't got space stuff. Yeah, I don't know need you know how you turn them on.
Speaker: I don't know if there's just a switch down there or you can put switch Yeah, no there was like a switch on the wall. Oh, nice. you turn that on and the thing about electric heat is they just kick out like heat straight away. Yeah, well, it's like this one we've got in here, isn't it? It doesn't like hold as well, does it? No, no. It like awesome heat. Yeah. Yeah, that is a really clever idea. I mean, I do like...
Speaker: electric underfloor heating as well as we've got in our bathrooms but yeah it's not cheap is it no it's just not that you've got it in yours haven't you yeah how you actually find it yeah it's good yeah definitely like really nice and like something about walking walking on like a warmer floor it's really nice You insulate it under yours as well, don't you? Yeah, we insulate it. So I think that makes a massive difference. helps, yeah.
Speaker: But yeah, my brother's got it, but I don't think he insulated under it or did like a small bit and he said it's not as good as he was hoping. Oh, really? Yeah. But yeah, so anyway... The radiators are all sort of planned down. We've got the sizes for those all ready to go. So basically, again, I've been looking at all these various websites, getting like, we're going to go for those like traditional column look ones, but like a basic design.
Speaker: um So I've been just getting all my prices. I'm basically ready to go on so many things. I'm ready to go on my bathroom fittings. um Oh, also with the kitchen. So it was 14 grand. And for the 14 grand, so I got it from DIY ah Kitchens, who I've mentioned many times before. yes So for those who have never heard of them, is as the name goes, it's DIY. You do it yourself. So you there is a service these days, I think, for like 30 quid or something, isn't there? yeah You basically just can do the whole thing yourself on like their CAD planner. You can put measure the room, map it out. And it's actually, I'm rubbish on computers, but it's really easy. And then you can just add what you want, where you want it. And it tells you if it's wrong or if things can't go there and distances from each other.
Speaker: so I was playing around with that. and it's a really easy kitchen because there's no corners. We've got like three banks of areas and a big island. Yeah. um Medium-sized island. Yeah.
Speaker: um And so all the units came to 14, units, worktop, appliances and handles, 14 grand. Wow. Which in my head sounds pretty good. That is really good, yeah. um I was going to order it all separately like I usually do, but they they had loads of deals on. You've got free dishwasher if you order this and 10% off. So I just sort of went for it. And then I was looking at the handles. was like, oh, those handles look really smart. They're quite reasonable. Yeah. And I thought it's great having it all in one order. All all done. All handled. um No pun intended. And again, with the appliances, i could have gone, well, why am I putting a fridge in there?
Speaker: And why am I putting the freezer in there? And why am I putting the washing machine in there? Because I don't have to because I'm selling it. I feel like, again, if you're asking for the top money, which we're going to try to do at first... You've got to say you can just move into this house. Yeah, straight away. Move straight in. All you need is some wardrobes I'm putting in wardrobes. And they're all integrated, right? Yeah, exactly. All integrated. So you'd have a hole there. That looks nice as well. Yeah, rather than looking at uh fridge or something exactly you could get away with the fridge in the freezer because they just come you could just put an empty thing you just open but the washing machine and the dishwasher is just like an integrated door isn't it yeah can't attach it to anything no there's nothing to attach so you just have a hole yeah so again i think it's important to spend that extra few pounds to like
Speaker: get all of it properly. So when someone comes in, oh wow, we can just bring our stuff in and in. not ready to go. Yeah. always think when you're renovating a place, that is, the people are looking at renovating houses, they're like, I don't want to do anything. Yeah, I think I want to just buy and move in. So I think that's a smart move. I think so. There was another bungalow we did years ago.
Speaker: And I was like, oh, God, we've done this really nicely, but I don't think it's going to sell. And someone bought and they said exactly that. and They said, we just want a perfect house that we know for at least 10 years. yeah The boiler is probably not going to go wrong. Nothing's going to go wrong. We're going move in and we don't have to change anything. And they just want to go in. So I think that's the person I'm hopefully...
Speaker: going to target in September. Yeah, and that's it. And I think for both like an older person or couple moving in who like a bungalow, they you won't want to do anything. I don't think so. And where it's in catchment for a really good school, if you've got kids, you don't want to them moving and have to do all those stuff. So it really appeals to both those markets. Yeah. and i don't know if it's just my algorithm, good looking at DIY stuff and trade stuff all the time, but all I'm seeing on Instagram and stuff is how expensive everything is again. Everything's so expensive, everything's so expensive. So i don't think people, you just bought a house and paid all that stamp duty and stuff. Have you even got like 30K to go and do a kitchen or a bathroom car picks? You don't really want to, do you? It's not a lot of money. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: So, yeah, so it's all exciting and it's all go, go, go. It's all sort of loving it. But the RY Kitchens has been sold. know. That's mad. It's mental, isn't it? Do you see how much it went for? 390 million, wasn't it? Yeah, 390 million. Part me thought it would be worth more than that.
Speaker: I don't know what they make yeah every year, but I hope they don't like change because they're a family business. no There's no shareholders. They're just a family. The guys who started it, the brothers, i think it was,
Speaker: um ah still still owned it. And I didn't think they'd sort of ever sell, but I guess you get off of 390 million. Yeah. Howden's a port, haven't they? i know. that's That's one thing that worries me. And like, I've ordered stuff from Howden's before they've been really good.
Speaker: But I've heard about their kitchen services. ah You have to be a tradesman. Yeah. So I couldn't just go and order a kitchen like like we did for my house. So you're then not seeing the actual price of the kitchen, right? Yeah. The tradesman then goes, oh, I'll do that kitchen for yeah like 30K.
Speaker: How much have you added on to that? And actually, even if you did show the client the invoice, you can even say, can you put this on for me and stuff like that. Wow. So I've done it before. You're like... as in I haven't done it, but they've asked me, you say, oh, how much do you get in 12 grand? Oh, you make it 13,500 or something? Because showing blah, blah, blah the invoice. And that's part of the thing you can just do and they can give you credit or whatever. It's all like, it's not illegal, obviously. No. It's just, that's obviously not what they do with everything. They're good for a lot of things, I think. Yeah. skirting and like I was going say our skirting. Yeah, stuff like that I use them for. Like if you want normal work tops, like laminate work tops stuff, they're good because what is amazing about them, which is the opposite to DIY kitchens, is everything's in stock.
Speaker: yeah You could go there and just say you your kitchen unit, you need one extra you forgot to order. You can just go to house and pick it up. Whereas DIY kitchens, if you wanted if say if my order's wrong, I've mucked something up, it's probably going to two weeks before I get another one. So I don't know if the models are going to sort of intertwine yeah with what they're doing but I read that they think it's just going to be they've got Howden's as their trade thing and this DIY kitchen is going to be completely separate and it's just going to be their DIY thing it's going to work the same hopefully because it's so good and like
Speaker: It's so different to Howden's, right? And it's what we like using as DIYers. You can kind of, like you say, use the tool and you can pick stuff out and you're not beholden by someone else having to then order it and not cost it up. for Exactly. It would be good if they could do something like stock some of the stuff. Because obviously, think they've got, say, 13 colours in most kitchens. yeah You also know if they had something like end panels,
Speaker: from the DIY kitchen's lot in Howden's branches. Yeah. So if you have a muck, it's always end panels that you either have too many of or not enough of. and Yeah. You need end panels everywhere um or filler panels or something like that. you're like, just need one filler panel. Oh, wicked. They now have it in Howden's. Yeah. That would be awesome if they could like intertwine that. Yeah. Bring that through. But yeah, it's just it's kind of sad because it's when I've been up to the um showroom up north, I always forget where it is. It's like Yorkshire. Yeah. It's like such a nice business. It's really family based. All the staff and stuff say, it's really nice to work here.
Speaker: There's no pressure. Everyone loves the like quality of the kitchen and stuff. So we don't we don't have we don't get more if we hound people and stuff like that. Whereas Howden's is a bit more salesy, I think. Yeah, yeah. I think the staff are really nice at Howden's, but I have had them when I'd skip outside my house, i'd knock on the door and say, oh, I see you're doing work.
Speaker: Here's my card sort of thing. It's like a different business plan. Yeah, yeah. if they go a bit more like that with DIY Kishins, I don't think it'd be as good. Yeah, it's true, isn't it? Like you say, if it's run like that, like that's quite a big change, like a big corporation coming in. Yeah. That sort of thing. But hopefully they've just bought them so they just own like the majority of the market, right? Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I'm hoping so anyway. Because my my pet hate with places like Howden's and Wren's and stuff. This why never going to get sponsored by these people. Yeah. I just don't like that you could, me and you could order the same kitchen and I could get it a grand cheaper than you. just Yeah. Because I use them 50 times. I don't think that, I think like DIY kitchens, I can't get it any cheaper than you. No. I think that's how it should be.
Speaker: Or you're relying on a tradesman. Yeah, exactly. Giving you a price. I mean, you could have a different tradesman and then your kitchen costs. And I think a tradesman should add on a bit as well because it's it's the hard work planning a kitchen, buying it. or It takes like...
Speaker: god no I'm so good on the DIY Kitchen's website because I've used it so much, but it still probably took me like seven or eight hours, I'd say. Going back and forth, tinkering with it, making sure the end panels are right. Oh, do I want tongue and groove end panels rather than plain? All these little details.
Speaker: So you've got to cost that into your thing. So I think it's quite right that tradesmen add on when they're buying materials like that. But it can allow people just to be like, oh, this 12 grand kitchen, might price it at 19. Yeah, yeah. And you're like, Jesus. That's exactly it. People don't mind paying for it if it's like, oh, well, you're paying me to design it, cost amount, and then fit it, cost amount. Yeah.
Speaker: It's when you're then saying, oh, well, I can add on extra just for ordering your kitchen. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I just prefer the transparency of DIY kitchen. So hopefully they sort of stay separate and work in some way together for some things.
Speaker: Yeah. But yeah, it's definitely interesting. Yeah, man, doesn't it? want to do a special about stuff like that because I think it's like going real, real depth. Yeah. Because even IKEA do kitchens, right? Yeah. And everyone moans at me for not doing when I did my five comparisons. Yeah. It was DIY kitchens who came out on top Wren came second.
Speaker: I think Haldens were third or fourth. Wicks were last. And who was the other one? Haldens, Wren. Oh, can't remember in middle of my head. thank you B&Q? They do kitchens. Oh, no, it wasn't all benchmarks, was going to say, but they do kitchens. It wasn't them either. Mine's gone completely blank.
Speaker: But everyone's like, well, can do Ikea. Because everyone knows Ikea. Yeah. It's the whole flat pack thing that puts me off massively. DIY kitchens, they come with the doors on and everything. That's it, yeah. Really easy to whip the doors and start installing, but...
Speaker: Even when I'm starting looking at my kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, sorry. um My mum was saying the other day, oh, this is a really nice unit for the bathroom. And I looked and it just said flat pack.
Speaker: And ah straight away, I was like, well, that's going to be me doing that. i was And I just don't want to do it. And if you look around, you can get the same sort of thing because it was just like... a um ribbed, you know, the ribbed look. Oh, yeah, nice. The ribbed look.
Speaker: And you can just shop around and get that ready-made and custom because I'm i'm going to be doing it. I never think flat pack is as good quality. Yeah. So stuff like that I'll really look out for. So Ikea's all flat pack.
Speaker: um so Again, you're going have to pay someone to do that or you're going to it yourself. Yeah. not for me i know i follow someone on instagram and they they were installing a ikea kitchen and to save money the customer said oh i'll put it together apparently it spent like half a day trying to do it and then was like mate listen can you just put it together for me as well because yeah i've seen people um i'm a carpenter he didn't need to look at the manual. He just sees the hole, knows what's going in there, like a dowel or the little metal bit.
Speaker: And would just know, and he'd just go, bum, bum, bum, bum. Whereas if you're just constantly looking at the structure, it's of the worst things I think a person could do. This is why I'm going to ruin even more sponsorships, but I hate IKEA now, because I feel like in the old days, stuff just came ready-made, and now everyone's like, well, flat pack's great, and you're like, it's cheaper. You're like, great, but then spent eight hours building it, and it looks shit. And then it just falls over. Yeah. Yeah. It doesn't really last as long, I don't think, as well.
Speaker: yeah, I've just got off that sort of thing massively. You get what you pay for, don't you? I think so. But IKEA has got some absolute bargains, to be fair. Yeah. Yeah. Everything's got its place right. Yeah.
Speaker: But I hate flat-packed kitchen so much. I've i' ever done one flat-packed kitchen. um But me and my carpenter built it so quickly because he just knew exactly where everything went. He was just talking about what I was doing. And we built it in like half a day or something. Oh, nice. Yeah. But yeah, not fun.
Speaker: I guess sometimes a necessity though, right? In flats and stuff. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Imagine trying to like lug up all those pieces to a flat. Awful. So yeah, my kitchen's coming. um Week commence in 22nd of June, I think. Is that week coming? I can't remember.
Speaker: But so sometime around then, that's the negative of DIY kitchens, though. You can't pick a specific day anymore. Okay. In the old days, used to be able to pick a day, and he'd be like delivered on the Monday. You could book the carbon to him for the next day or whatever. Yeah, yeah. Or no, you can unpackage it and stuff. But that really is the big the only negative to kitchens. You just have to allow a week for It's getting a week, yeah. So I've got to get plastered by then.
Speaker: which should be fine. um I just can't decide what he's going to do because one of the walls is just battered. So I don't know whether he wants to dot and dab it or bond loads. um It's difficult because where walls have been removed, where the bathroom used to be and stuff like that. But I've overballed the ceiling, so that's not too bad.
Speaker: So yeah, that's going to be a really exciting stage. im so feel like It feels a bit premature because only one room is being plastered at the moment. But I think it's going be alright. Crack on. Crack on. So then in July is basically all of us coming back and just starting doing some second fixings, get skirting on, stuff like that. Nice. Marker traves. It's exciting. So I've got the skirting already so I can take that across and start cracking on. nice are you gonna do this kind thing think so yeah unless my carman's there when he's doing the kitchen he says i've got a couple of days and he'll just smash it out smash it out i'm gonna start with just like some easy runs and just yeah and just see how it goes yeah it sounds good i mean one of those things it's not impossible it's just gonna be slow with me doing it yeah you just there's more filling exactly yeah why is it nine cuts in one thing
Speaker: He's not wanting to waste it. It's like you've paid money for these things. To be fair, I didn't pay money. think I've already said I got this skirt for free, so I'm going to be promoting those guys down the line. But... So you just don't want waste stuff you've paid money for, don't you? No, definitely not. It's so annoying if you make a mistake and you're like, oh, it's like £10 a sheet or whatever. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: Or you're like me, I always order extra because I know I'm going to suck up. always do. It's delightful when you can send stuff back. Yeah, so true. I always order over the top. And even if I do any job, I'm like, I'm going to order two plastic boxes in case one plastic box breaks or something. yeah And then when I'm left with the stuff, I'm like, yes, it's gone well. Yeah.
Speaker: So, yeah, I think i think that's everything caught up. So I've got a spreadsheet of Doom update. Nice, yeah. And it's sitting at, could because the kitchen was, the total amount was £14,486. I paid the plumber three more £1,000. I bought some plasterboard to do finishing my plasterboard in next couple of weeks. another skip, £350. There's been quite a lot going out, and I've finished paying the builder for...
Speaker: all the internal stuff and we're sitting around 80k so my hundred k um ah don't think it's gonna have happen for now i'm like tossing it up in my head it's like it's close ish but obviously the pulch is gonna take it to yeah 87 88 yeah i'm not gonna be able to do the rest for 12 when you think there's like flooring and carpets and again I'm like I know I'm selling it but I really like the kitchen is the same kitchen as I've got in my house which is proper real wood could have got it cheaper but I chose not to and again with the flooring I've got Amtiko in there yeah and a herringbone and it looks really fancy it it wasn't like really expensive it was more than like a laminate and I think again I was like if I can find the money to do that I'm going to do get a price for that and try and do that because again I think
Speaker: We've had a two-year-old, a three-year-old, a four-year-old running around causing chaos and no chips out of it yet, no scratches. She drags around the chairs everywhere like going and it's still fine. So I'm like, it's good for the owners, whoever buys it, do it properly again. yeah so I'm going to try and do that. Carpets, I'll probably go like a couple down from what I've got.
Speaker: Yeah. Because we... we like this you know when you just get carpet you put your feet and you're like oh this is amazing yeah clearly like a bit more expensive i think carpet's one those ones where might go a couple down yeah a good one but not a great one to save some money yeah but feel like the flooring is just going to be there for like 10 15 years so i'm gonna i'm tempted do it properly again. So, and hopefully it comes out in the value again as well. Yeah. A hundred percent. I definitely think like spending money there does help you, especially when you are selling it, people walk around and they do see quality. Like there's nothing worse than, you know, that,
Speaker: old wooden laminate that just like clips together it never sits properly does it yeah you can tell it's cheap so i like lifts and stuff as well lifts it just doesn't look great does it whereas the proper stuff that's like stuck down can't remember where we got it from but in brixton in our flat we just got the cheap laminate when we first moved in that's when everything was so cheap i think we did our bathroom in our kitchen and for like 12 grand or something. um They were small, but still, and we just got a cheap laminate.
Speaker: They looked nice, looked like oak. But like we I think we dropped a knife once or whatever and it's just like straight away, boom. And then another bit moves out and it just, by the end, it's all scratched and this and that. where you' just I'm just not seeing that so far in our house. There's one imperfection, which I think is just literally you know movement of stuff. yeah There's a little bit of a raise in one. And it's in a really peculiar place where no one walks. It's like by a table in the hall. So I think it's just one of those things with houses moving. Yeah, true. So, yeah, ah my instinct, again, is to not that Chris, every time I speak to you, i say, Chris and I need to sit down and talk about money. But we basically keep saying, oh, well, I'm earning a bit, I'm a bit, what have we got?
Speaker: Put it in. This person is paying, what have you got? Put it in. And it's sort of, we're just ticking along nicely, I'd like to say. Sounds like he's avoiding you. I know, but that to be fair, he has paid a lot of money for his house so far, so I can't complain. No, definitely not. But I just have no idea what we've got left. But, yeah, so I'm on 80-ish K.
Speaker: And the £100,000 is the title. Yeah, yeah. In my head, I don't think it'll be over £100,000. Well, it can't be, obviously, because we don't have it. But I don't think it's going to over £110,000 because I just can't see where it's going to be. No, yeah. And like I'm looking at quotes I got from my house and the bungalow's smaller than my house, so i can sort of see, oh, if I paid like £4,000 for the flooring in there, yeah hopefully it's like £2,000 or something there.
Speaker: Same with the carpet, smaller rooms. So hopefully, hopefully, it's just trying to work out what tradesmen are going to be moving forward again and things like that. Builders must be done now, right? Builders are done in the house. They're just doing the porch. Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah. so all done in the house. That's nice to have that like pay. yeah I was like, yeah, the builders are finished. i was like, oh, can you do the porch? Yeah. I was like, damn it, I could just have like no more builder money. but I was like, oh, I've got to do it properly. And um as I said, we like these guys. Yeah, exactly. yeah You're just making excuses to see them. Yeah. Although if Toby's still listening, is um he's done like 90% of the work on this one because Dave's been on so many other jobs. Holidays. Yeah, holidays. It's definitely Toby's build this one. Yeah, shout out to Toby.
Speaker: I wouldn't ask him if he still listens. Loads of random people I've seen lately have told me they're listening. Oh, amazing. I bumped into someone who used to work for my brother. He was like, yeah, listen. He was moaning about the sound quality of the first ones we did. Oh, yeah. He was like, yeah, we're working on it, okay? Stick with us. We're working on it. I was like, oh, just listening. Yeah. Even if you are just slagging us off. Yeah.
Speaker: But, yeah, so exciting stuff. Exciting stuff. um'm like I generally am. loving how it's going now and can see the finish line in September. I can't see what's going to cock it up, but maybe the window man went on holiday, so that's slightly delayed. But again, he's got he's semi-retired now. He's not doing loads of jobs.
Speaker: Again, he's got not many windows, not many doors. So I can't see him being there for more than like 10 days, for example. Yeah, yeah. I think we're going to be on schedule, famous last words, unless we run out money. Yeah. Which could happen. Which could happen. i have no idea how much money we have.
Speaker: and I'm excited to see the end results. Now we're like moving closer and closer to the finish. We're going to talk about when it's done. Yeah, I know. Yeah, exactly. Could it be if it's sold? Yeah, yeah. Or in Selling the process of that?
Speaker: Oh, yeah. You can moan about estate agents. Oh, yeah, I don't know. mean, I actually, the estate agent we use is, they're so nice, but generally, annoying. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know anything about the house. No. Yeah, the one we use really wants to know every detail about everything and like relays it to people and you literally say it's an antique co-flooring and there's like a real wood kitchen and the appliances are like nice AEG or whatever and I'm like, oh, that's awesome. I always found that weird when we were selling our place. Like, they didn't ask us
Speaker: estate agent didn't ask any questions yeah it's mad and like the people that end up buying it they just had loads of questions they're like oh the estate agent didn't know anything was like no they don't know anything they just glorified someone standing there to show people around just opening the door yeah yeah because i want to know stuff like is the boiler new and stuff like yeah i think of the big things is the roof new so on grandmas so the roof isn't new So straight away you'd be like, okay, obviously roofs are pretty reliable things. But that roof is a thing that could go and cost like five grand out nothing. A boiler is a thing that could go and cost you two, three grand out nothing. So I always want to know those sorts of things as like a minimum.
Speaker: But yeah, summer stadiums, you're just like, oh, how was the boiler? Oh, I don't know. Where is the boiler? Oh. don't know. Yeah, yeah. Is there a boiler? Yeah. I remember looking at some houses with an estate agent I ended finding the boiler. I'm like, come on, mate.
Speaker: Everyone asks to see the boiler. Yeah, exactly. Maybe people don't. Maybe it's just weirdos like us. We're on a DIY podcast. The geeks looking for the boilers. So I think that's it for this week. Unless you've got any other DIY. I suppose you've not. You've holiday. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Oh, I've got a little DIY. I've got a... I was going to say a DIY hack. not a hack at all. But I bought a chop saw to do the skirting around my fireplace and stuff.
Speaker: Took it back the next day because I literally bought it because I was like... I just want to get it a bit nicer for when everyone comes over for the barbecue. So I want to finish the fireplace. I want to do this bit around the extractor fan in the kitchen, it a bit more bespoke. So I'm going to buy chop sort. Then literally Dave texts me the next day saying, I'm going to come to your house and do the outdoor barbecue. And was like, oh, and he has a chop sort. So I took it back. was like, it was only a cheap one. It was £95 from Scoofy's. But I was like, I can just take it back. I mean, it wasn't a good brand one.
Speaker: It's like a Titan. Oh, yeah. was all right. It's their own. Yeah, exactly. My experience of buying theirs, that sort of stuff in the past is they're all right, but they do break and not as good as to walk and stuff. No. um So I took it straight back and I'm just going to do it tomorrow.
Speaker: And I've got Dave to oversee it. Yeah. Or you could just make him a coffee and be like, oh, well, yeah, I've done those bits. Exactly. So I was like, yes, I've saved £95. He's like, what's wrong with it? was like, there's nothing wrong with it. was like, oh, I just don't want anymore. He's like, Oh, okay. Just look to me so I was mad. Just looking at you like, this guy is pretty crazy. So I'm going to try and do all my DIY jobs at the same time as helping Dave with the outdoor. he's going to get really pissed off at me. I'll be like, can you change the blade to this way to do the angle cuts and stuff like that? But he's a pretty calm guy. Yeah, he is. I can take advantage.
