Introduction & The Murder Mystery

00:00:06
Speaker
The unseen enemy is always the most fearsome. George RR Martin, A Clash of Kings.
00:00:50
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Eberron Renewed, an actual play D&D 5th edition podcast set in the Eberron campaign setting. I am your dungeon master, Eric. I am your Hexblade Philip. I'm Trevor. Jeff.
00:01:02
Speaker
I'm a demon. I'm just a perfectly normal guy. Just Jeff human man. And welcome to another episode of Eberron Renewed. So gentlemen, inform both me and the listeners what happened last time. There's been a murder. I wish you'd waited one more second, God, that's coffee spit take. It's a five dollar, five gold piece cleanup.
00:01:31
Speaker
Yeah, there's been several murders, apparently, of Warforged down in the bottom layers of Sharn in the Cogs. And Draconis' old mentor, Crast, has been investigating them for the King Citadel.
00:01:49
Speaker
We're not actually entirely sure what Krasst's connection is to our odd prophecy that was given to us by old Graham, but he is clearly in some way connected. And so to help, to allow him to have time to help us track that down, we're trying to help him finish this case.

Investigation in the Cogs

00:02:11
Speaker
So we're on the job trying to track down the whoever's murdering war forged in the cogs.
00:02:19
Speaker
Yes. And so we initially went to a kind of an inn that mostly warforged beings stay. And each of us tried to talk to somebody. We met up with Spunk? Spirk? Spruce. Spruce. Well, sorry. Spunk? No, sorry. Right on a bike. Dude, I'm trying.
00:02:45
Speaker
I have to remember it rhymes with Bruce, but so spruce we met up with him and Or we met him. They're all wood words What the war force they're all wood words twig spruce
00:03:00
Speaker
I've learned that I don't really know the word for spruce then. Because when I think spruce, I think like clean, like spruce up the field. It's also the kind of tree. Yeah. It's just like all the professors in Pokemon. Although I talked to scythe. That's just, I don't think it wouldn't handle, shut up, it's not a perfect metaphor. And then there was umber. Yeah. Well, okay, so we talked to, each of us took someone to talk to with varying degrees of success. Not really much degrees of success.
00:03:29
Speaker
Well I would say a complete fail to like, eh, not much. And then from there we went on to the, it's not a fountain. The morgue. Oh we went to the morgue next, yes. So we went to the morgue and talked to some people there.
00:03:46
Speaker
Yeah, I got to I got to play dress up as a changeling just a little bit like a mild form of it and pretend I was somebody else and we got very little information from the from the the can of people or man. Slogar, slogar, slogar, can of and then.
00:04:05
Speaker
We went to the foundry and we saw some really just gross dealings with some guy named Mor- Mor- Mor- Mor- Morat? Morick. Morick. I was actually closer than I thought. Yeah. With Morat. Uh, named Morick and, uh, he, he was having some thugs pin down one of his employees who was a warforger while he beat him up. And we put a quick stop to that and I boy did.
00:04:28
Speaker
Draconis. Yeah. Yeah. We, Draconis put the fear of God or fear of whatever the silver flame into, uh, into, uh, more rig, but mostly the fear of Draconis.
00:04:41
Speaker
that's all I need baby but yeah we you know we were just discussing we didn't get as much information as we would have liked to so now we're going back to the very first thing we were told and we are heading up to the brotherhood of swords swords of the brothers swords of liberty yep yep that's where we're going sword of liberty
00:05:00
Speaker
So far we have the leads we've accrued are that Krast believes the Swords of Liberty are behind it. Slogar thinks that it's just motivated by hatred of Warforged. That's also what Scythe thinks. And Molarik thinks it's a ghost called Jackin Irons.

Exploring Leads

00:05:23
Speaker
And that's really the three leads we had, and they've just sort of been repeated to us. But we haven't really found any evidence to lead us towards one or the other.
00:05:36
Speaker
So you all begin making your way through the cogs back to the path that you took down. Making our way uptown. That is that seat. So yeah, as you all are walking, everyone give me perception checks.
00:05:55
Speaker
17, uh, 15, 13. Okay. Um, Dex and Barrick notice that you basically hear footsteps behind you for a pretty long duration of time. Like clearly somebody, somebody has been walking behind you. Um, I look over my shoulder.
00:06:17
Speaker
after checking to make sure that Dex and Draconis are both still moving. Okay.

Being Followed and Confrontation

00:06:24
Speaker
Time hasn't frozen terribly on their stealth check. So you turn around and see three creatures kind of as they noticed you start to turn, try to duck into an alleyway. What time? What time of day is it right now? Oh, it doesn't matter. We can't see this guy. Yeah.
00:06:39
Speaker
It's always night time in the cost. What manner of creatures? You didn't get a good, really good beat on them, but there were three fairly tall humanoid figures. You think you may have spotted one of them as an orc, but. We're being followed by some not very discreet individuals. Where'd they go? In that alley right there. Shall we? I think we must.
00:07:06
Speaker
Okay. There we go. So I'm going to need you all to you all give me dexterity saves all around. Okay. Okay, I need to ask because I've forgotten now if I have highlighted my saving throws, like this is ticked. Does that do I have my proficiency? Yes. On top of the plus four, I have my proficiency to a saving throw. Yes. Okay. That was all. Let's that was the eye contact. Yes. It's 12.
00:07:35
Speaker
Uh, 18. 18. Okay. So we are going to have a surprise round of combat, but Jirconos gets to act, but he's the only one amongst you. So, because he was not caught off guard as much as you two were. The two that saw them are caught off guard. I just walked over there and like, Oh yeah. You're riding that demon high. You're like, I can do anything. I'm invincible.
00:08:06
Speaker
A die is going to bed. Second two in a row. Yikes. I got a four. Four. Twelve. Which means I rolled a five. This garbage rolling cut. I'm assuming you have a better dex check. My dex is two. What's your dexterity modifier? One. One, okay.
00:08:30
Speaker
Okay, so first up in the surprise round are these guys. So you see one shifter, one orc, and one hobgoblin leap out front, like as you all were approaching, they leap out, which you weren't expecting, you thought they were hiding. And so kind of an ambush thing. And so one for each of you. So Barrett, the shifter,
00:09:00
Speaker
That is a 13. That will miss. The orc goes after Draconos. And that's an 18. Miss. And Dex, you have the hobgoblin up on your business. And that is a 15. These nerds are in for a whoopin' hand.
00:09:19
Speaker
It is now Draconis' turn, since he gets to act on this round, and then we will assume normal initiative order. He's right up on me, right? Yeah. Okay, so I'm gonna, I guess it's technically a bonus action, because I'm gonna attack with my axe, and then if I make contact, I'm gonna use Divine Smite on it. Okay. Roll your attack roll. Yes. So take out my axe, and I nat 20.
00:09:48
Speaker
And so, I hit him and then- It's a good die. I like it. It's either really good or really bad. Well, you want to grab your percentile dice and roll it on my Cric table and I'll tell you what happens. Yes. So roll that and your D10. Roll that and my D10? Yeah, that's 12. There you go. The flying saucer. That's all right.
00:10:06
Speaker
So 56. Okay, you do double damage and he is going to make a constitution saving throw. He rolled a two. Okay, so the condition that he's under is disoriented, so he's stunned for a round. So what did you do to like kind of ring his bell? Um, okay, because he's like kind of over me, right?
00:10:27
Speaker
Yeah, they kind of came out. Okay, I assume he's a little bit taller than me, but not much. So I'm gonna kind of like head... Well, it's a headbutt, but it's a hornbutt. I'm gonna hornbutt him like right in the throat. And then after that, I'm gonna swing my axe at him, like right in the rib area, and then use my divine smite with that, which will do an extra...
00:10:57
Speaker
It is an extra... it says a 2d8 plus 1d8 per level. Per level of spell. Oh, per level of spell. Okay, so I'm just using a first level spell. So what's your weapon damage? Weapon damage is a 1d8. So you get to roll 2d8 for that because of the crit and then another 2d8 for the smite damage. Okay, so four of these.
00:11:19
Speaker
Seven plus five, so 12, three plus five, so 15. Yeah, 15. And then on this one, I don't get the bonus, it's just the 2d8. So 15 plus six, 21, and then 22. Okay, so I'm going to describe the seam if you'll allow me with this. Of course. Because I have a thought.
00:11:44
Speaker
So this orc rounds the corner with his great axe just up coming straight at you but because he's so open you're able to just headbutt him with your horns in the throat and then you spin around with your axe just letting the momentum carry and your axe goes clean through his neck and his head falls to the ground and you're just there. After I do that can I like because I'm holding my shield can I just like bang my axe on my shield?
00:12:13
Speaker
Okay, so that's the end of that round. Dex. Man, these cogs ain't so tough. Okay, so there is a hobgoblin that came after me. Yes. And that's, yeah, made a mistake pal. So I'm gonna go, I'm actually, I'm not gonna unleash the ribbon, I'm just gonna club him.
00:12:37
Speaker
That is a 24.

Interrogation and Revelations

00:12:40
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I thought it might. And I'm going to give myself, or I'm going to give him, I'll bark. That's six, 11. 17 damage. Nice. Just whappin' him with your cane like an old man? No, like I step up baseball style. Oh. Right across his jaw. Sorry, I should have put more flavor into it. Gotcha. Yeah, go ahead. Okay, I'm going to let you know. He's dead. Narrate.
00:13:09
Speaker
He has just tried to come at me and he misses. As he's turning around to try another strike at me, he just sees me, just queued up like a batter in the box. Come across, squash the bug with the knees, flip the wrist right across his jaw.
00:13:26
Speaker
Had to go sideways. We hear a little crunch. He goes down. Snap his neck. Awesome. I mean, I didn't, I, I wouldn't have if I hadn't rolled to kill. I mean, that's the thing that happened. I don't control the dice, man. Derek, it is your turn. That's going to be 15. 15?
00:13:50
Speaker
who's left that's a hit the shifter shifter shifter all right so as he comes around Barrett just sort of
00:14:01
Speaker
brings his hands together and the sword forms in his grasp. And as the shifter comes at him, Beric just leans forward into a lunge straight at him. Okay. And I'm gonna use the property of Cursebringer that allows me to expend a spell slot for some bonus damage. Okay. What? No, it's not. I mean, I didn't want to kill my guy.
00:14:30
Speaker
I told you to narrate it. Like, you could have said that you knocked him out. That's true. It's always fun to see just a handful of dying being dropped.
00:14:42
Speaker
and you as Dex only change something. 30 damage. 30 damage. If it's alive. As the shifter rounds the corner and you lunge forward with your sword, he sees it coming and tries to use his hand to move the blade out of the way, but his momentum carried him forward too much. But he was able to move it just enough to where it gets him more in the side and kind of slices him open, so he's bleeding very badly, but he's not dead.
00:15:09
Speaker
Okay, then I would like to sort of pivot around, bring the blade down close to him and demand that he yield. Okay, he just kind of falls to a knee and is holding his arm in on the wound trying to suppress the bleeding as much as possible. I yield.
00:15:32
Speaker
All right. Smart move, bud. What's your business here? Why are you following us? What the hell, dude? We all have questions. I said I yield. Let me go. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Answer some questions. If you want information, I'm going to need a check. Well, here we go, though. When he says I yield, let me go. Barak says answer some questions. 15 foot sword comes out. Okay. Intimidation. Intimidation. Can we get advantage since he's... Yeah.
00:16:04
Speaker
Good, because I just rolled two. 20. Intimidation. 15. Okay. Yeah, you both roll enough that he just sighs and says, just don't kill me. I was given money to come after three people matching your descriptions.
00:16:28
Speaker
Yeah. By whom? I didn't get a name. Um, medium height guy, dark hair, blue robes, um, salt and pepper hair.
00:16:43
Speaker
What's Krast look like? I just wanna- Right. Is that how- Krast has white hair. Oh, okay. Blue robes would signify- A mage or a cleric or something. This isn't what the priest looked like. The priest, no, no. Nor Slogar. I mean, he's family. Right. They told you to follow us. Well, this is a fault of mine on just narrating descriptions. That's why I threw in the hair elements. Slogar was wearing blue robes.
00:17:14
Speaker
So, Slogar. We feel like we might... I know now for certain, because Eric just did that. Yeah. But obviously, we would have noticed... That was the morgue guy, right? Yeah, that was... Yeah. Where? What do you mean, where? Where were you when he gave them to you? He approached us on the street. I mean... Just a moment ago? 30 minutes. Alright, yeah. So... I actually reach in and hand him one of the... Hand him a healing potion.
00:18:00
Speaker
I'm a vengeful and retributive sort of person, but if we need to keep going to the Brotherhood, what are they called? The Swords of Liberty. I did it, I did it, I did it. If we need to keep going to Swords of Liberty, I understand, but there's a part of me. I got half of mine to spin around and give Slogar the what for. We asked some questions and he tried to have us killed, so that seems rather incriminating. Yeah.
00:18:04
Speaker
beyond your way.
00:18:25
Speaker
So we want to put off. You want to head back? How do you feel about this? Because this is obviously the lead that Kras brought to us. So this one, I, I trust him. And I think if he thinks that he thinks it's the sons or the swords of Liberty, we need to check it out.
00:18:45
Speaker
But I know it will be a hard route to take. She wouldn't... What time of day is it? Out in the real world? I would say it's about... Here's my thought. Early evening. If Slogar... Okay, so... Dinner time. So no, then.
00:19:04
Speaker
I was thinking, if it's morningish, then Slogar is going to be working for a while, and we can go to the Swords of Liberty, and then hopefully also survive and make it back. On the other hand, as it stands, we might catch him leaving the office. He prevents us from having to assault a Kaneth enclave, which I'm not eager to do. We, in my opinion, need to check out the Swords of Liberty. That being said,
00:19:30
Speaker
Us being followed is very suspicious to me and I think that deserves and a more immediate Yeah, let's go checking that out. We spin around head back head back to house cannon, but we are not walking with with mr. Shifter Catch up to him. Hey, can we come back with you?
00:19:49
Speaker
Elias, if he's a hired blade, I assume he's not going back to the, to the place where he was hired. Now, did he say he was hired to follow or hired to take out? He said, what did he say? He didn't say follow. He said, I was hired to follow the three people that describe it. But at the same time, as soon as we confronted him, they went into attack. Yeah. No. Yeah. They definitely attacked us.
00:20:12
Speaker
We rekt shop. Yes, man. I wish there there are a few battles especially in in today's um campaign That I wish as like a person I could watch like cinema style just me like just walking and then three people jump out and miss attacks and we just Like simultaneously just blow them up and like all right. What's up? Or jeff's
00:20:40
Speaker
I'm really proud of that one. It was awesome. So as you all are making your way back towards Slogar's Forge Hold, you hear shouting around a corner

Tensions in the Foundry

00:20:52
Speaker
up ahead. You're walking along one side of the Tain Foundry and you have to kind of make a left and go in front of the Tain Foundry to continue on to the Kenneth Forge Hold, but you hear shouting up around that corner and to the left.
00:21:05
Speaker
Um, as you round the corner, you see scythe and about four other warforged, um, screaming at some tame guards and mole Rick is out there as well.
00:21:21
Speaker
Also shouting back, just accusations flying and things of that nature. Scythe has clearly decided it's time to make a move against the guards at the foundry. Man, there's a part of me that doesn't give crap. Yep. So say, do we, I don't, and if you guys don't really care, I mean, not care, but I think there are more pressing issues.
00:21:44
Speaker
I, fellas, I have no problem walking right past this and tipping my hat at, at Morick and keeping moving. But how much, I mean, this isn't going to be the sort of thing that causes more, like things are in unrest already. Right. Yeah.
00:22:02
Speaker
I don't know. It's like I don't know how craft would feel about it, but he ain't here. Yeah, I mean unless this is like something that's like tension that's been building and then this is exactly what it is like. This is the initiation of like war between war forged and the humans.
00:22:20
Speaker
But there's only four of them, right? So it's not if it was like 20 warforged I might write no I'm sorry. There are six warforged with scythe and four guard or three guards in moorik are the numbers present
00:22:55
Speaker
for every one warforged that's died in his foundry, warforged killed 10 times as many of his people in the war. So that's the back and forth that's happening. You want to know what we saw today? If you want to walk past it, that's perfectly fine. Based on that, I don't feel like Eric has any
00:22:58
Speaker
Can we hear anything?
00:23:21
Speaker
Based on hearing that, Barrick has no particular motivation to help Mollrick out of this jam. Okay. I'm with you guys. Nothing is pulling me to it. Okay. And I don't want to be remembered as scary and then jack something up and not be scary anymore. You all just walk past it. Altercations and changes are rising. I absolutely tip my hat at Mollrick as we walk past. Okay. What kind of hat do you wear?
00:23:50
Speaker
What kind of hat do you think I was? Was it a bowler, my lady? No, that's an honor. So just for today. You all arrive at the Kenneth Forge hold. The doors are open and the receptionist is still sitting there. She's like, well, what brings you all back now? We need to see Slogar. Oh, I'm sorry. He's gone. He left for the day. Where does Slogar live?
00:24:18
Speaker
Oh, he lives in an upper part of the city. I'm not sure where. Listen, we need to speak to Slogar. How can we find him? Well, you can come back tomorrow morning. He should be back. No, I'm afraid we don't have the sort of time. Well, he's a very secretive man. I honestly do not have his address. I don't know where to find him. When he's not here, he likes to be out of touch. Would you guys want to look around in there without him in there?
00:24:47
Speaker
I mean, you could get back in if there was if one try to find something secret, but I don't know if I mean, I wouldn't know it doesn't look good. Here we go. Can we head back? Just check, check things out one more time. That's gonna be a problem. Oh, I don't know. I mean,
00:25:02
Speaker
Slogar was back there last time I let y'all go back there. And so, um, I remind her, I say, uh, I mean, I am, I'm a member of the family. These are not foreign ideas to me. I'm not going to, I'm not going to do anything to hurt Slogar's work. I know, but Slogar doesn't even like me to go back there when he's not here. And I'm, I'm a Kenneth too wide. I go and somebody can make a check. If you would like, I'm trying to figure out what I would do. I don't want to be, I don't want to do intimidation.
00:25:31
Speaker
Persuasion. I guess persuasion. Yeah. Deception. I'll do deception. It's a 16. 16. Yeah, you you can can, well, go ahead and convince her. Listen,
00:25:47
Speaker
We're just, more and more has happened. We're concerned about the way that, we're concerned about the way that our property is being treated at the foundry. And I need to go back there and check and see, there's some things I need to look for on some of those bodies to see if it's connected. You know, just take a moment and we'll be right back out. God, I felt dirty saying that, but. You gave a sigh before, so that's all right. We know. Okay. She, well, okay.
00:26:18
Speaker
I need to go back there with y'all. Okay. Just, I figure if, if Slow Guard notices anything to miss and I tell him, well, I was back there and they didn't take nothing, then I think it'll be more okay than me just letting y'all go back there. Cause I guarantee if he figures that out, I'll be fired. Oh, we do. We just certainly don't want that. Okay. All right. So she gets up from behind her desk and goes and unlocks the door. Can you remind me what her name was?
00:26:44
Speaker
Gloria. More or more. Interesting. G. L. O. R. I. A. Morla. Morla. Morla. What color here? Auburn. As we walk in, I, I fall into step next to her and say, so how do you find yourself stuck here when when the boss is gone?
00:27:07
Speaker
Oh, you know, duty of the house and all that. I have a nice little modest apartment in the back of the back of the building that just I'll, I'll lock up here in an hour or so and go to bed and wake up and wait for Slogar in the morning. Basically, Barrett begins trying to distract her so that they can look around the place. The second he starts to talk to her and she like kind of turns her attention to him, I'm looking for anything encrypting. I'm just rolling. Give me a persuasion check to like really engage her in conversation. Okay.
00:27:36
Speaker
Cause she's trying to talk to you and keep an eye on. Oh, that's so bad. Seven. She's engaging with you, but she's also kind of looking at those two. All right. Do you want me to do an investigation or perception check to see if I noticed any investigation?
00:27:57
Speaker
Nine, god dang it. And then I, like I said, I'm looking for anything that doesn't look like it would be a tool to,

Discovering Clues

00:28:08
Speaker
or something that would specifically be to look at these bodies of the warforged, like anything that would look out of place. Okay, go ahead and give me a investigation check. Investigation check. What? What do you add to investigation? Intelligence. Oh, crap. Eight.
00:28:28
Speaker
You have a smug look on your face, Philip. What do you got up your sleeve? Uh, there's decircles standing in the doorway and, um, as they're looking around and barracks kind of frustrated that she's not, uh, he's not been able to draw her attention away from keeping around and she's being such a, well, such a diligent employee. He's doing a very good job. Um, so behind his, behind his back, he kind of makes a gesture and then he sort of looks back and goes, Oh my God.
00:28:57
Speaker
there's a fire what oh my god he has created bonfire just back in the lobby okay rushes back and starts trying to beat it out with his cloak or something which may give me another opportunity to invest I hope so Eric
00:29:19
Speaker
cannot take another look around the second she leaves you just start like grabbing things out of shelves and just like man see if you can find like a notebook or a yeah pull out my mini spy camera right I'm in the back like you have time to make another investigation check but
00:29:41
Speaker
Well, no, I'll because that was really creative and you get advantage. But Morla goes back there with you and she with her hand starts making some motions and water just starts dropping down on the fire. Okay. But you can make a check with invest with advantage. No, because they can't because advantage for the fire, but disadvantage because she was able to deal with it so quickly. Jimin doing as well. Sure. Okay. You go ahead. I'm just gonna roll. I want to know what you got. Oh, I got 16.
00:30:10
Speaker
I got 10. Okay. Something that you're able to notice since you're looking at the tools and things like that quickly is you notice next to a couple of the bodies.
00:30:23
Speaker
Um, there are these golden rings, like they're, they're almost like golden chain links that, um, we're clearly like, you can even still see one in Leathernecks, one of his wounds it's lodged in there. And, and clearly there's some consistency with gold rings, like gold chain links with each of these bodies. Cause they're in a small receptacle niche next to each body.
00:30:47
Speaker
Um, is there multiple in in each one or like, well, there's one that varies by, by each one. Okay. Whichever one has like a couple in there. Um, I'm just going to grab like two. Okay. And just quickly. Okay. At that point, more like comes back in.
00:31:08
Speaker
Uh, I was wrong. I didn't leave my phone here. We're gonna head out. I say, uh, I say more with, um, I'm gonna make you a deal. We won't mention the fire. If you don't mention us coming back, we don't want first.
00:31:24
Speaker
We don't want anybody to get in trouble about anything. We don't want Sloguard to know. I know we can and tend to be territorial and I'd hate for him to be upset with us because we came back. We'll try to come back and catch him at a time when he's here so we can do this on the up and up.
00:31:41
Speaker
Can we can we make that deal more? Yeah, that's that's fine. I mean, so are is he scary? So I won't bring it up. He may be able to pry it out of me, but I'll do my best to stay strong. I believe in you. So roll high. As you all exit the forge hold, everybody give me perception checks.
00:32:09
Speaker
Twenty. Seventeen. Twenty three. You two. It was a high B.C. OK. Yeah. So you all notice out of the corner your eye down one of the very narrow alleyways. You see Umber like round a corner and he's just walking along picking up bits of scrap metal and putting them in his bag.
00:32:37
Speaker
Um, and then you see, um, because of your exceptionally high getting over 20 you being Jeff. Um, yes, Jeff decks. You see like the shadows kind of move behind umber and almost like a figure go down the alleyway behind him. I run.
00:32:54
Speaker
Yeah, go. As you round the corner, you do see a figure trying to stealthily come up behind Umber and you see an arm. I cast Lightning Lore. Oh, good. I was going to ribbon weave out and try to trip him. I mean, you're reacting simultaneously, so you could do both. Strength saving throw for him.
00:33:19
Speaker
Yeah, and I'm gonna try to trip him as well. I mean, let's just yeah one one. I just am running behind you 17 ah 18 okay trip so you Yeah, you tripping and I don't I don't know what I don't know how much damage I've had to deal But I do not want to kill it. Can I say that well with the trip? It's a grapple check. So you actually don't do damage You just cause them to go prone
00:33:40
Speaker
Okay, so the figure is on the ground. Dagger that he had in his hand is flying out. And I use Umber turns around like horrified. Can I use bonus action to dash up and put the ribbon weave against his throat? Yep. That's done. I mean, he's on his belly, so you don't have a good look on his face. The ribbon weave is sucked back in. It's a cane now. I did that while I was running. And I guess I didn't have to do that. I just flip it around and hold the other end.
00:34:10
Speaker
but of it on the back of his neck, pinning him to the, like, hard, pinning him to the ground. It does not feel good to him. While he's doing that, I kind of start to notice what's going on.
00:34:20
Speaker
Cause I was like, what do we, oh, there's a thing. And so, uh, when I realized there is a hooded figure, I run up and try to yank the hood off of him. Okay. Um, old man, willikers. He got away with it too. One of those meddling kids. Um, you see the face of Slogar, like face on the dirt. Look at that. And he just immediately out of the corner of his eye, looks at you and says,
00:34:49
Speaker
I know this is going to sound ridiculous. It's not what you think. Well, you're right about one thing. Yeah, definitely sound ridiculous. And you know, I can't help but wonder why you sent those boys after us this evening.
00:35:07
Speaker
because I wanted to handle it myself. I told you that. And when you went to the foundry and made a scene, clearly you weren't going to listen to me. You got a couple of guys killed in that slow car. Do you understand that?
00:35:22
Speaker
And it may not be the only ones to meet that fate. It's for the protection of this city. Okay, listen, we're going to need you to start saying a lot more things. Like you're not going to be doing well. Is anybody looking to Umber at all? Yeah, I'm not talking to slow growth guys. So I'll I'll turn to Umber.
00:35:48
Speaker
They want to expose us. They want to tear us apart. They want to hurt us. He clearly doesn't understand the question.
00:36:08
Speaker
They want to expose our flaws. They want to purify us. The flaws of us.
00:36:21
Speaker
The flaws in your creation, the flaws, your flaws personally? The flaws in us, the flaws of us, the flaws around us, they want to expose them. Slogar, decode. Slogar shrugs his shoulders like, I... So we, do we hear this? I have no idea what he's saying. Or like, yeah, you can hear that. I mean, Umber is actively trying to back away. Like, he's on the verge of taking off.
00:36:50
Speaker
Is there a flaw in the system that connects all of the war force together? Um, are you asking that number? Yes. There is a flaw in us about us. They want to tear us apart. Um, where is your flaw?
00:37:20
Speaker
They want to expose us. Is he doing what you are doing with your hand? Pointing at the spot where the hole is in all the guys. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. What is the flaw? He's just going to keep repeating myself. All right. In that case, I have
00:37:44
Speaker
I am still with Slogar and I tell him to sit up against the wall. Can I detect magic on Umber and see if he reads the same way other Warforged do? Okay. It's the same magical signature that Warforged put off. It's a little unstable, not like pulsing about to explode unstable, but I mean,
00:38:13
Speaker
It's off like kind of like what spruce told you something happened that nothing remarkably off. There's not a different type of magic. He is a warforged. I say slow. It is time for you to come clean with me. What is going on in these boys chests? I.
00:38:34
Speaker
I don't know to what end or why, but all of the warforged that have been killed and Umber and some other warforges that live in this district were made on the same day in the same forge. They're from a batch. A flawed batch, perhaps. I don't know.
00:38:58
Speaker
why they're targeting or how they know this information because production dates, manufacturing details, things like that are very protected.
00:39:14
Speaker
But they are collecting parts and I don't know what they're using the magical signatures on those parts for, but worst case scenario, that level of energy being brought together for multiple warforges could potentially be disastrous. So yeah, I was trying to disable Umber to where they could not collect him. I did not kill any of the other warforged.
00:39:40
Speaker
All right, so clearly, you don't actually believe this to be merely racially motivated. So who's they? What do you mean they? You said you're trying to stop them. The the unnameable entity that is doing it. I don't know who's doing it. I just said they because they'd have to be careful. I they'd have to have at least have access to that information. They'd have to have somebody on the inside.
00:40:08
Speaker
That's not entirely a joke. Like I said, I don't know. I would apologize for hiring people to follow you and attack you, but you know, I told you to stay out of it and you didn't. It's a good apology. It's really good.
00:40:32
Speaker
Well, you know, we're not, I can't, I can't hold any, any ill will against somebody dumb enough to think those guys could have taken us out really. How many other Warfarged have you disabled in order to disable this? This was my first attempt. I figured Umber being a, I mean, a broken model.
00:40:54
Speaker
would be easy to take out and disrupt their plans if they need to collect all. How many more are there down here that had that flaw? Everyone give me perception checks. Is Umber still here? Well, since you're looking, while you all have been asking questions of Slogar, Umber has disappeared down the tunnel. Like at some point when you all were talking to Slogar, Umber took off.
00:41:18
Speaker
Okay. I mean, he was, even when you all were talking to him, he was terrified. Right. And so I'm not very good at it. Can I attempt an insight check on Slogar? Yeah. I actually was going to do the same thing. You should because you're probably better at me. I got a seven.
00:41:36
Speaker
I got an eight. All right. Do you see your own perceptual checks or? Insight. Insight checks. Intelligence. Yes. It was 14. 14. All of you get the sense that he's

Umber's Actions and Confrontation

00:41:51
Speaker
being utterly truthful right now. He seems to be a man that has no reason to lie. Well, look, mates, is Slogar the last one?
00:42:01
Speaker
from the batch. No, I'm slow. Umber. Umber's the last one from the batch. Are you a warforged slow guard? You've got to pull off his mask. No, he's not. Do you know where the others are? Yes, I do. Where are they? Can't tell you that. Slow guard. Such high hopes for us. Would you like to tell me why you can't tell me that?
00:42:32
Speaker
I've already said it, details like that are highly protected proprietary information. The location of individual persons is not the proprietary information of House Kenneth. But giving you the location of people matching the criteria that you gave me would be violating that protective information. On the other hand, not doing it is going to prevent us from saving those people from being murdered.
00:42:57
Speaker
And on a third hand, not doing it might get you stabbed, Slogar. Oh, I really don't think you'd be dumb enough to stab an heir to the house of Kenneth. So. You have no idea how dumb I can be. While they're doing this, I'm going to kind of get up and I because we're in an alley right now and I want to look out of the alley, see if I can one, see Umber at all to see if anything
00:43:25
Speaker
suspicious looking. You look down the street and you can see some lights and things like that. You don't see Umber anywhere. You do see just some commotion outside the red hammer in like people walking in earlier and like looking inside and kind of looking at each other and a couple of people take off away from it. There's some activity going on around there, but that's the only thing you spot.
00:43:50
Speaker
Who's actively talking to? I have one more thing I want to try. Are you going to take off before they're done? Or are you going to call? If they're both, are you both engaged? They've both been active. If you're both engaged. Because I have one more question I want to ask. I'm done with him. So I'm going to go to the end just to kind of check it out. Go ahead and ask your last question, but you have a head start.
00:44:19
Speaker
I sort of lean down close and I say, all right, you're right. I'm not going to stab you. But I tell you what I can do. At the moment, I have a reasonable contact in the Citadel. And if you're concerned about the Citadel being involved, being up in Kenneth business, then I think the story of tonight's little escapade would make a very interesting story to the Citadel. So how's this?
00:44:49
Speaker
You bend your little proprietary rules a little bit for someone who doesn't care in the least bit how warforged or made or whatever nonsense you're concerned about. And maybe we don't pass all this onto the Citadel. Was that bureaucratic intimidation? Your your logic is solid enough to where I'm not going to make you roll. You successfully do it. There are three others.
00:45:14
Speaker
in this district that were part of the batch. Including Umber or aside from Umber? Aside from Umber. They typically hang around the Red Hammer Inn, Scythe, Twig and Spruce.
00:45:37
Speaker
i had a feeling um just cinematically speaking as he's saying these names it cuts to jerkonos rounding the corner into the inn and you see nobody else in the inn it is cleared out and you see scythe leaned up against the wall puncture wound in his chest a leg missing
00:46:00
Speaker
and the plate that had the mark of the Lord of Blades on it has been ripped off. You see Spruce laying on the ground near the table where you all were sitting at talking to him and the only thing that's missing is his head.
00:46:18
Speaker
You actually hear Twig first from behind the bar and you round the corner and he has the puncture wound in his chest and it has been cut open but he's still alive and he kind of reaches out to you. Yeah, I'm running over to him. I don't know why. I don't know why. Who? Just who? Umber.
00:46:41
Speaker
Umber did this to you? Yeah, he ran in here. I don't know why. Damn it! He took off back the way that you came from.
00:46:59
Speaker
I leave, no more questions. Okay, we don't know this, so I'm just going to keep talking to Slogar. You got it. Well, I exit out. How far? Here's the thing. If you're going to follow the trail, it's not going to take you back by there because as soon as you're around the corner, because you're looking for something, you notice a series of metal scraps with little gold chain links mixed in.
00:47:21
Speaker
I have to follow. I'll find them later. I have this image of you coming out of the bar screaming. Screaming our names. Kind of. With Thaumaturgy on. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's basically. Click on your loudspeaker. Yeah. Because that's why I was asking how far away I am into there. I mean, it was probably about 50 feet down from the alleyway that they're in and they're at the top of that alley. So, I mean, going straight lines, probably close to 100 feet away. And that's around a corner.
00:47:51
Speaker
I will attempt to yell, I don't know what the role will be, but I'm gonna use thaumaturgy and as loud as I possibly can, I'm gonna yell, Lyle in, or Lyle. You can use complete sentences with thaumaturgy. Well, I'm just to get it very quickly. Lyle, go to the end now. Okay. And so I don't know if you want me to roll for that. Yeah, perception check on his part.
00:48:21
Speaker
I assume you hear it too, but I don't... Well, if he hears it, I'll... It's a 22. You do hear it, but you, I assume, are not breaking stride to wait for them. No, I'm... I say, I say, I say, uh, Barak Drag needs this. I turn it slower and I say, I got more questions for you. And then we go. As you're rounding the corner, um, cause it's going to take you a bit to catch up, you're here footsteps behind you running. And as you look over your shoulder, um, Crast heard you yell and is running behind you.
00:48:50
Speaker
What happened? Umber killed everyone. We have to find him. Okay. And so you all are following the trail of scrap metal. You all find the gold chain links lead up through a very well hidden door. Clearly wasn't shut all the way. Like it looks like normally there's crates that sit in front of it to completely block the side of the door, but they weren't moved properly in time. So you find that door.
00:49:16
Speaker
As you all run into the end, you do not see Draconos anywhere, but you see the same Grizzly site. Are any of them still alive? No, none of them are alive now. You do give me perception checks. Now, I will say this. 17.
00:49:34
Speaker
Okay, that might be enough. I don't have to justify this, but I would be actively looking for something like a trail, so I don't know. That's why you're making a perception check. Jesus Christ. So let me ask this. That's a one. So I got a six. I'm just trying to work on Beric's reaction to this. In some editions, when warforged are effectively reduced to zero hit points,
00:49:59
Speaker
They don't actually die. They just get incapacitated and can do reacted. These two have had, or these three have had, for lack of a better term, parts removed from them. It's not like they were knocked to zero hit points. They were actively killed. So it's not active. It's not possible for them to be repaired. No, not with that. At least not without a creation forge. That would be the one thing. One of those? No. Yeah, that's right. In my other pants.
00:50:26
Speaker
That was also part of the treaty throne hold is Kenneth had to disable all their creation forges you spot the trail of scrap metal with I mean you wouldn't care about the gold chain links, but you do remember umber's bag of Clanking metal. No where Barrick is right now is he's kind of playing the fact that if we hadn't stopped slogar He would have killed umber and this wouldn't have happened
00:50:51
Speaker
But does Barrick still want to tell Lyle about the trail? Because Lyle's looking up. I don't know why. Barrick spots the trail and just starts running. No, not follow. Okay.
00:51:02
Speaker
So as you all enter through the door, there's a pretty winding sense of mazes of just crates and boxes is clearly like a warehouse almost the four of us reunited yet. No, me and Crass are in the place. And so you all do see because the crates don't go all the way to the ceiling, bright glowing blue light coming from like the direction that you're weaving towards that the trail is leading.
00:51:30
Speaker
As you all stop, as you enter there, you see Umber standing over a table and he turns and snaps his head around and looks at you. They tainted us with their touch. They are impure.
00:51:48
Speaker
I am pure. I can make us pure. And you see the body parts he's been assembling have been connected together and laying on this strange alien looking machine that you've never seen before. You've never encountered something like this before, but it's pulsing
00:52:09
Speaker
bright blue light and there's these strange inscriptions all over it. Are we at the bottom of the stairwell right now? Stairwell. I thought you said there was a stairwell. No, no, you were in a maze like warehouse with crates and stuff. Okay. At probably this point, well, how do you respond? Do you have anything to say? Nothing to say, but I want to try to make whatever the closest direct path I can to get to Umber.
00:52:37
Speaker
Okay, I mean, you can just charge straightforward. Yeah. And I'll probably as I'm running, look to craft and say, take care of the body, give me a strength check. Okay.
00:52:55
Speaker
16 umber sees you charging him and knows that i mean you are a well armed being his time has come he has served his purpose and he turns and smashes his hand on a rune as the bright light erupts and the body starts
00:53:14
Speaker
moving and undulating, and that's when you all arrive on the scene. I mean, were you going to cut down Umber to stop him? Yes. I mean, as soon as he hits that button, walk up and just lop his head off. Okay. And Umber is gone. Okay.
00:53:32
Speaker
So what do we see? We see a Frankenstein's monster warforged? Is that what we see? At this point, yeah, you see this massive huge warforged that like one of its arms is five times bigger than what it should be. It has multiple breastplates to cover the extra mass of the body, including you see the Lord of Blades mark.
00:53:58
Speaker
amongst the chest plates and you see bright yellow eyes and a tree insignia on his forehead reaching back on his head. How, I don't know how close, were they kind of right next to each other? Who? Umber and the creature. Well, he was standing over the table that the creature was on.
00:54:17
Speaker
Oh okay, so now like I- But the bright blue light was like almost blinding. Like you were able to lop him off and then you had to kind of pull back to shield yourself from this light and this power. Okay. And it's- Because it's just raw magical energy. Okay. So, um.
00:54:35
Speaker
Yeah, let's... anything you all would... other than... kill it. I don't know what else to do. Yeah, I mean, besides piss myself. Right. Okay. I wonder if there's anything that I can do. Okay, so initiative? Yep. Oh, I thought you were about to end the episode, seriously.
00:55:00
Speaker
19. 4. 18. Dex, you are up first. Alright, how close are we now to it? 25 feet. Okay, I step in 15 feet, and I flick that lever, and I attack with my ribbon weave, aiming for... how tall is it?
00:55:24
Speaker
It is I'm not getting to its neck. No, it is 16 feet tall. Okay knee joint Okay, or whatever passes for one of its several knee joints in its leg. So is the creature standing at this point? Yes. Okay, cuz I remember he was kind of wiggling prone but he got up. All right.
00:55:47
Speaker
That's an 11. I heard 11. No, no, you did not hit. Did I say 11? I'm in 72. Try to wrap around, but it manages to kind of scoot its leg back and your ribbon weave hits nothing. And now we're going to have Krast's turn. So he is going to run up and just try to attack it with his sword. Oh, I'm sorry. Can I dash back? Yes.
00:56:16
Speaker
Um, that is going to be a 20 to hit, which does it. Takes a dozen, and I was like, oh, I'm gonna bad day. Okay, so he does 9 damage. Nice start. Now they've gotta have 60 hit points. Okay, it is now its turn. Creature formerly known as Eight.
00:56:37
Speaker
and it launches into an excellent tap dance routine to put in our race. Okay, so it brings its large, like, club-like arm that I showed you in a sweeping motion trying to hit Krast and you because you're both within range. So against Krast. It's especially canon now by Rivenweave can do that. They're both in range. Monsters operate under different rules than players. You want me to start being a monster? I can be a monster. Did you see what I did in that alley? 22 to hit.
00:57:07
Speaker
I'm 21 and you have rolled 22. Twice tonight, I'm still low damage. 17 damage. Okay, still alive, but... You just get knocked, knocked back, air kind of knocked out of you. It is now Dracono's turn. Okay. Gosh. Well, while we're in here...
00:57:31
Speaker
And we're just starting the battle. I'm going to use a spell slot to bless my three friends. Okay. Crassed, I need to. And just for attack rolls and saving throws, add a 1d4. Awesome. Okay. Oh yeah, great. Nice.
00:57:55
Speaker
That's an action? That is an action. Let me see if there's any bonus action that I... I think all my bonus actions are... Yeah, all my bonus actions are... Okay, I want to put Hunter's Mark on the creature. That'll be my bonus action. Okay. It is now... Barret's turn.
00:58:20
Speaker
Alright, I am going to put my Hexblade's Curse on the creature. So it sort of becomes wreathed in these tendrils of shadow and then I run towards them and as I'm sort of coming down I see it just backhand Draconis viciously.
00:58:41
Speaker
And so I run over and grasp the amulet and put a hand on Draconis and this sort of very uncharacteristically golden energy moves from my hand into Draconis. Ooh, recovers. 17 hit points. Dude. Beautiful boy. Thank you.
00:59:11
Speaker
Okay, now it is Krast's turn. We're back around to the top. How much did you heal him for? 17. Okay, perfect. Yeah, so. You healed me for all that I was hit. Okay, so Krast is going to attempt to attack it again as best he can. That's going to be a 24, so yeah, that'll do it. He hits it for 16 damage. Don't forget that D8, y'all.
00:59:42
Speaker
I know it's my turn now, so I have a question. If I trip it, is it a full action for it to get up or just its move action so it could get up and then attack? Move action. It uses half of its movement so it can get up and then... Okay, never mind. Okay, so I'm gonna step back in range. But everybody that attacks it within melee range would have advantage on their attack while it's prone.
01:00:05
Speaker
but that would just be Draconis. I mean that would be something, but if it was this guy as well, I would try it every time that I'm gonna do some hurt. Okay, so I'm gonna move back into range. Okay, Rivenweave's still out, going after that knee joint again, and it is a...
01:00:24
Speaker
That's a 15, but I get to add a d4, right? Yeah. Four d4. Attack rolls, right? So that's a 17. Hit. Okay, great. Four, five, six, ten. Sixteen damage. Nice. Okay. Sixteen damage, nice and good. And then I dash back. I'm not gonna be in range if I don't have to. Yeah, I don't blame you. I mean, I don't know what its range is, but I assume it's not 40 feet. Probably not.
01:00:54
Speaker
You could cover it, but maybe it can launch one of its fists at you. I don't know what this thing can do. Okay, it is now its turn. So it is going to... I'm a warlock. Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not an ar- Not
01:01:23
Speaker
doing some healing. So Beric, that is going to be a critical fumble. Yay! And I'm going to treat this guy like a named creature since it's a boss battle, so he will get to roll on both tables, but... Wait, what? He's rolling on the little crit tables because it's a boss fight. Please be disarmed. I just want to see how you deal with that.
01:01:48
Speaker
He flings it so hard. Well, he raises his giant arm up and some of the connections that Umber made weren't great and the big club part of it flies off and lands about 20 feet away behind him and he just
01:02:08
Speaker
And he has disadvantage now for the rest of the round, which helps you out, because he's going to try to bring his other, albeit not his giant hand, but still hole down to punchy you. Still punchy hand. 17, so no. No. Is it... I believe it's your turn. I believe it's mine. Yeah, Draconos. Okay, so since he kind of missed...
01:02:35
Speaker
I want to, because it's plate and then wood, right? Even though he's a monstrous creature, he's still that, right? Sorry, what? Yes, okay. So he's still mostly, he's made of wood underneath. So I want to, I'm hurt, but I'm like, so I'm kind of underneath him at this point. So I want to kind of jump up and swing my axe at any sort of exposed area that I see. And as I do that,
01:03:04
Speaker
If if I hit then I want to cast searing smite which will set him on fire and give more damage nice, okay Let's go with nine nine Nope, not gonna do it. Okay. It is now Barrett's turn. All right, I will as a bonus action cast hex on him and I'm gonna give him disadvantage on
01:03:35
Speaker
Dexterity checks. Okay. And then as bonus action is my action, I will cast Create Bonfire under his feet. So I need a dexterity save from him. That is going to be a 8. Excellent. 9 fire damage and 2 necrotic.
01:04:04
Speaker
I forgot about that necrotic part. Yeah. Hex. Oh yeah. I assume radiant damage isn't going to do anything pretty. I don't really imagine the damage. He is resurrected, I was gonna say. Okay, that is the end of this round, so everyone give me perception checks.
01:04:18
Speaker
Has he seemed unaffected by any of the damage types we've been dealing? No. Okay. That is a 26. So just go ahead and tell me what you need to say. Mine is less. It's a... it's an eight. Nine. Nine. Okay, so...
01:04:37
Speaker
because you're a little bit further back you're not quite up in the fray you can see this strange thing that gave this creature life and it's continuing to pulse with energy even though it's no longer actively creating something or imbuing something with life and so yeah and the the pulsing is getting more rapid and with a 26
01:05:01
Speaker
You begin to see where the blue light is kind of shooting out and pulsing. You see almost like darkness imbued in the light as it continues to pulse. And the pulsing is getting a little bit bigger each time. Do I see where it's plugged in? No, you do not. Just throw the breaker somewhere in there. Factory, right? So it's got to have one of those big giant light toggles.

And now it is Krasz's turn, so he is going to... I... I... I'll wait until I have to Krasz has done. He misses. So, go ahead. Can I make anything of that? Do I know enough to make anything of that, or do I just... You can give me a... Arcana check? That's intelligence-based? Yeah, I don't see that doing great. Let's do that once.
01:05:55
Speaker
15. No. I mean, you don't know enough to really kill creation forges. So, okay. Um, I, I run, I dash back in or not dash back in that's the bonus action for later. I run back up into range. I take a second to say,
01:06:12
Speaker
Well, is there something going on with that shiny circle? I won't hopefully when you two knows what's up or crafts when you three and then I Roll to hit him. I want to take that knee out. I want him on the ground. Okay, so
01:06:29
Speaker
That's an 18, 20. Okay, you hit. And I do 13, 18, 23 damage. That's almost the max I can do. I'm pretty good. So yeah, you get the ribbon weave to wrap a couple of times around his knee right where Umber had done some attachments of multiple warforged legs to create this extra long leg and you snap
01:06:57
Speaker
the bindings and the bottom leg just comes out and he loses his balance and essentially has to drop to a knee where the other leg is extended out in front. So he's still able to attack but you have crippled his mobility. And I should be able to reach his neck. Yeah. It is now his turn to do this. Oh and I dash out. I don't even think I need to say that.
01:07:22
Speaker
Sorry, guys. He's going to once again just try to wildly swipe at you two with his good arm. Barrick, that's 23. That's definitely gonna hit me. Sorry, B.
01:07:41
Speaker
10 damage. And then Draconos, that's a miss, that's a 9. So he manages to hit Barak, but the impact kind of makes his other arm flail wildly as you duck under it as it comes flying with you.
01:07:55
Speaker
It is now Draconis' turn. Okay. She is... Question. On my if-then statement, since I missed, do I use a spell slot since I didn't try to use it? Since you didn't try to use the spell slot. Okay. I'm gonna do the same thing where I'm gonna swipe at him, but I wanna, since now he is on a knee, I wanna jump up and try to go for it to take the head off. Okay. That is my goal. Aim for that neck.
01:08:24
Speaker
Uh, it was 12. I'm not going to do it. So you fly up and he manages to bring his arm up and like block you and knock you actually over his shoulder. Like you were coming up for him and he kind of lifted you. You managed to land on your feet. You're not in a bad way, but he just got you to go. So I'm like on the other side of him now. Hey, I'm not next to you, Eric.
01:08:50
Speaker
And so now it is Beric's turn. First off, he should have taken some fire damage. I thought I might do this turn. Oh yeah, he's still on fire. Five. And then I will, yeah, so I summon Cursebringer. Okay. And rush forward and kind of try to run up the long, the extended leg to try and hack at his chest.
01:09:20
Speaker
Okay, and so... As soon as Cursebringer appears in your hand, you hear, it is coming! You are not ready! Continue with your attack, 23. That's a hit.
01:09:43
Speaker
Don't want to waste it. Thank you. Thank you for not wasting my blessing. And I'm going to use my other spell slot and do a strike with Cursebringer. So I get to add 4d8s to it. You get to add 4d8s to it? Yeah. Wow.
01:10:10
Speaker
And Hex. We got some winners and some losers there. Yeah, yeah, that's... All the ones I saw were really high. Eric's on my face. 37th. Okay. I have a Witch's Necrotic. Okay. I just bring Cursebringer across the chest with all my might, scoring across the metal. Do all I see is just a blade. You see the flames that you set on him, the wood burning within him.
01:10:39
Speaker
and it's weakened enough to our curse bringer with its razor's edge you don't even feel anything as you cut through and slice into his chest and he rears back he he's hurting in a bad way he's not dead yet but he is he is hurt all right and then i land safely okay everyone give me perception checks oh no that's not it fell out of my hand
01:11:05
Speaker
The one that dropped would have been better. 19, nat 20.
01:11:09
Speaker
What was that with the modifier? 23. Okay. Jesus. I wrote a four, so add one or two. Barrick, as you were jumping through the air and slicing into him, you saw behind him the creation forge, the blue light that it's pulsing at regular intervals, the core of it has begun to darken, not in a sense of the brightness of the light, but the light itself is darker. Is there a check icon? Can I make an arcana check?
01:11:42
Speaker
13. Nope. Okay. Before Krast goes, I shout again. There's something going on with that thing back there. Because I have noticed it has troubled me already. Yeah. Because I feel like he might be the one who knows what's up. I might be able to do something on my next turn. It'll turn off the fire, but I can detect magic. Good.
01:12:03
Speaker
I have a feeling that by the next turn we may not be able to explode it. Okay, Krast is actually going to risk the opportunity attack to try and run around him to get to the Creation Forge to inspect what's happening. To be fair, I want to say that I was planning on yelling that before Krast's move before this last perception check happened anyway.
01:12:27
Speaker
He hits him. That's not a good one. He just punches Crass straight in the side of the head as Crass like stumbles and is still trying to move but definitely dropped down to all fours at one point and had to crawl back up. As I say, I want to go to him but I can't. Well he was trying to run towards you because you are behind him now so you're in between him and the Creation Forge.
01:12:53
Speaker
Yeah, it is now. Alright, I'm running. I'm running into neck range. Okay. And I'm swinging my ribbon weave. That's a... 16. 16? That is a hit. Alright. So, I run up.
01:13:13
Speaker
Take the ribbon weave, lasso it over the head a couple of times, try to get some good momentum on that bulb at the end. Goal being to wrap around his neck at least one full rotation. And I think I'd do it because what I did was I rolled a... 12, 14, 16 damage. 16 damage. Okay, so...
01:13:39
Speaker
as the ribbon lever wraps around the wood fibers that are holding Spruce's head onto the body. It does make me sad that it's Spruce's head. The ball wraps around finally when it's wrapped around enough times and the ball hits one of Spruce's eyes and the light pops out of it.
01:13:58
Speaker
and he twitches and is clawing at it and just, in a frenzy, makes an attack on anybody within range, as his last eye dashed away. Crashed first, just came out of the way. That is a... Can this craft still in range? Yeah, okay. Even behind, like a mine range? Yes. Barak, that is an eight.
01:14:26
Speaker
have the image of you swinging on the end of the rune weave around him.
01:14:42
Speaker
I'm at 21, so close. He swings wildly at Krast and Beric and misses and reaches around and grabs Draconos like this way. By the frontal shirt area. And just pulls.
01:15:03
Speaker
And your armor is damaged and off of you, so you no longer get your armor bonus. So I'm back down to 19. It'd be 10 plus your dexterity. Yeah. So and then nothing. So do I not have my shield steel? Yeah. You're plus two for your shield. Oh, so I was 11 plus two on the shield. And you all see Draconis's breastplate scatter on the floor as it flies backwards.
01:15:32
Speaker
Um, then at this point, that dark energy you saw pulsing erupts and you see come floating in through this magical energy, a familiar face.

The Lich's Appearance and Aftermath

01:15:48
Speaker
It's that dude. The dick of Lich that you encountered before floats through and looks at Dex. I see you've been busy.
01:15:59
Speaker
and he reaches down and grabs Draconis by the back of the throat and I need you to make a strength saving throw. Okay. Oh man. I crit one. No. Dip. You all see his hand grab around Draconis' throat and they both disappear back into the portal as it closes shut. End of episode.
01:16:24
Speaker
The hell it is! What? No! The f*** it is! I need to know... The Creation Forge is off. It's no longer pulsing light. Oh, man. So I guess it's time to announce... So this was Draconis'... Trevor's final episode with us before he runs off to the other coast, the west coast, to go on to wonderful great things.
01:16:53
Speaker
I hate that I'm going out on a Nat 1. Yeah, that is rough. Yeah, we left Draconos on a similar note as young Jacob, so the hunt continues. Absolutely. But Trevor, just want to say thank you for
01:17:11
Speaker
bringing a good dose of happiness and humor to this table. Thank you. It's been wonderful to play with you. Thanks. It's been fun. I mean, who knows, maybe they can find your konos one day if you are back visiting. We're going to play for a weekend. As I go in, being choked, hold on to the armor.
01:17:36
