TheCovSquad: Well, welcome back.

TheCovSquad: It's been a long week. Let's put it that way. And it wasn't long since we were celebrating the win. And now... in Cov. style. we're back down to earth.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, does it does hit you, doesn't it? and you get all the You get the massive buzz when you get the wind out. And obviously it's slightly disappointing when you don't, but... You've just got to get used to it because it ain't going to be every week, is it, like last year? so

TheCovSquad: that's yeah of course of course i expected uh expected this really but it's it's just you at it's the hope that kills you isn't it you're always going into it like we could get something here we could get something here and then

crojam99: The reality of the season will be, it's going to be... massive highs Hello. massive lows But...

crojam99: At least we're now competing after the first four games. it felt like This is going to be one sort of... long, tricky season. Whereas now it's like... Tottenham would probably...

crojam99: The better team. if you're if you're honest. Boop. It wasn't... It wasn't Arsenal, it wasn't Brighton where you felt... we may as well have not turned up or we hadn't turned up. At least there was there was some sort of... positive to take from it and we look like We're going to be in the fight in every single game, which is... It didn't look like that for a little while. And I think that's the main takeaway is that if you...

crojam99: the The trend is that we are getting more and more involved in every game, looking more and more confident. And that's the takeaway. We're not going to win every game. like i I doubt tomorrow we're even going to have most of the ball again, even though we're at home.

crojam99: But I have confidence that we'll fight and we can we can definitely get something out of it. Sorry.

TheCovSquad: There's a lot of positives to come out. to compile the game. Um... Are you? It was a more comfortable watch. I thought yeah.

TheCovSquad: It's the same story. we're We're not going to have a lot of the ball and we can come on to whether that needs to change or not.

TheCovSquad: I think it was it was an enjoyable watch. And when we got that goal, I thought... I thought when we got the equalizer I thought that was our chance then.

TheCovSquad: it just it just wasn't to be in the end like we We should have got more out of that game really, the way it went, I think.

crojam99: well it's I think it's on them. the fact that they looked terrified when they went a goal up. they like you know like They had a lot of possession, looked quite threatening, scored the goal and it's like they completely shit themselves and went... full defensive mode because they don't know how to see out or win a game at the minute or for quite a while specifically at home.

crojam99: And then. we got the equaliser and all of a sudden they went back on the front foot again. And then they got that second goal and then they immediately went straight back into that.

Daniel Tierney: yeah

crojam99: that sort of low block and it was like if they had carried on because we had opened up at that point They probably could have got a few more, but... Yeah. I think it was. As I say.

crojam99: It's more the fact that we're in these games now. that That's the takeaway that's got to be there. I don't think we're going to be a derby or a... Or even a Luton that decided that it was, what, 11, 12 games before they decided to actually start playing football when they had a go at it. And you're like, it's too late then. We're already up and running and we already know what was required.

crojam99: So there's a lot to take from it, I think. Some of the players look like they can they can make that step, Rudy and stuff like that. it's their Every game you get more and more confident that they can play at this level.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, I listen to the... The the post -match is from... Lampard, Grimesy and Redoni. And I couldn't agree more with them, really. They're all a a bit disappointed that we didn't take a point at least. and I kind of agree, like, you know...

Daniel Tierney: They obviously dominated the ball. we We knew that was going to happen. That's fine. but They didn't really create much, you know, in the form of great chances because, we you know, we did exactly, it was pretty much a blueprint of the Newcastle game. We did a similar thing. you know Grimes, he said it as well in his interview. He he was saying like... what the gaffer says is like the first 10 15 you know we get out of the blocks and we get out and night

Daniel Tierney: We did that in both halves. like I mean, Sakamoto should have scored in the first 10. shouldn't he? And and obviously we've got the goal. early on in the second half. and and then sort of like We hit them hard early and then then we sort of settled back into our shape. and You know, we we kind of have to allow that they they're going to have the ball because we don't want to get, you know, we don't want to have all these holes. through the middle of the park where they can pick us off. So, yeah, I thought we were really unlucky, to be honest. Yeah, I thought i thought we yeah thought we deserved the point.

Daniel Tierney: out of that I thought There were some really good really good performances all over the pitch. and It's tough when you're playing against a team like Spurs. you know I mean, how much money have they spent this summer? and And...

Daniel Tierney: Honestly, some of those players are really good players. I mean, kudos. On the wing, he looked good, didn't he? Madison was obviously their best player. He controlled a lot of the ball through the middle. They're bringing, like, Fernandes off the bench. He's a £70 million midfielder. you know and like they just got that little bit of impetus didn't they you know and And...

Daniel Tierney: they could see the game out and and go and get go and get the second and third goal but Oh, you said, Jay, I agree. When it went to 1 -1, they come out and they give us a little bit more and then they went 2 -1 up and then they shriveled again and we...

crojam99: and

Daniel Tierney: It's not bad at all. Not bad at all. And and we deserve more on the day, I think.

TheCovSquad: You mentioned like in the first half, the chance. the... Sakamoto ad. I think it was good it was good to see Sakamoto start for Wong. I think we said that, didn't we?

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: definitely

TheCovSquad: we wanted wanted him to have a chance. And and that was... that proved the reason why, i the link -up play with Van Eerwijk. that exact exact move.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: made that chance But yeah, he was just a little bit slow in the box and they defended it well and then it was blocked. But... I just want to go back to the first goal. the the madison goal you mentioned he was their best player which he was the first half everything went through him

TheCovSquad: Kudos against the Silver was a bit of a mismatch. or to be honest. and there was like three or four times and then it was the goal where he beat him one -on -one got in behind him and then pulled it back to Madison.

TheCovSquad: but madison that in that position with no one around him not not even in a yeah couple of yards away I think that's the balance between...

TheCovSquad: being deep all the time every time they've got the ball in and standing in the in the 12 -yard box and actually getting out to them and pressing them and not letting them get nearer to the box and shoot.

TheCovSquad: Because players of Madison quality, they'll score they'll score but outside the box when they've got that much space.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, they will. i think I think if you watch it as well, like... When you watch it on the TV, you can see it. It's going to happen. like I think Juventus gets... sort of too blinded by getting back in. that he forgets that he's even there. And.

Daniel Tierney: And then he just, instead of, instead of Madison going in, you know, intelligent football as he is, he just pulls, you know, he just pulls a bit short and then he's waiting for that little cutback. and It's a great finish, you know what I mean? But again...

Daniel Tierney: Just... maybe a little bit of lack of experience. Got to watch your runners. Keep an eye on your shoulder, scanning, scanning. Can we find him? and and we've we know We've let him go spare. You can't afford to let him go spare because he's too good. you know what I mean

crojam99: It's like the next level of intelligence isn't it?

Daniel Tierney: Hmm.

crojam99: You know... It's... It's almost much like, okay, we need to get back to this position. That's fine. That's your baseline. But as you say, it's not the first time that, for instance, how many centre -backs have put one in the top corner of the last few weeks because we've sat off.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: And it's like, yes, we've got back to a defensive position. If you all stood there and no one's actually picking up the extra man, like... There's no need to have seven at the back when... and then their furthest player is is five yards in front of you. There's no need for that. So it's the next layer of... Yeah.

crojam99: of the plan, I suppose, is going, okay, we're back in that formation, but you need to be picking this guy up on the way back. Sorry.

TheCovSquad: But you called it, you said, Madison, he'll come back to haunt us. We gave him too much space. their best player.

TheCovSquad: Like they should have been prepared.

Daniel Tierney: i think I think if they wanted to deal with him, they they probably needed to...

TheCovSquad: so

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: What they probably needed to do was... Baby. The trouble is, they probably need to pack them in field a little bit more because Rudy sort of plays almost as a second striker, which I really like because it's a positive move. But...

Daniel Tierney: If you want to go man for man with them. Then... which maybe we could have done. You know, we could have got someone like Onyeka and just gone, right, you just follow him around. Do you know what I mean? Keep him out of the game.

Daniel Tierney: and that might have worked a bit better but then of course the other side of that is we're then encouraging them to come on us and I mean, I don't know whether that I don't know. It's it's it's a fine balance, isn't it? whether wherever you you You go like proper three in the middle and you go, right, we're going to go man for man on these lads. and we're not going to give them any room.

Daniel Tierney: Or... Do you just play your game and and try and try and sit in with the nice two banks of four formation? It's... and but then But then, obviously, if you throw on Yekaterin and take Redoni out, for example, you're going to lose a threat up front. So when the ball's going in up there...

Daniel Tierney: So he's sort of on his own. and will he be able to keep hold of it? Although he had a really good game, I thought. I was a bit surprised he came off to be honest. I thought he was a lot better than he was the other night.

TheCovSquad: Yeah. are I saw that he he was a lot better linking up play. is still improved, like you mentioned before. Hold up play. it's not it needs to get better there was it was for the first half it was like falling off him a little bit and getting away from him.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: But he was making some great touches. And he there was a chance where... he turned he all it that midfield or defender.

Daniel Tierney: Yes.

TheCovSquad: I can't remember what player. He got the ball down, a bit of skill, and he was out and away.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: And instead of playing in... The winger, I think it was Rodoni on the left that he could have just slotted him in. He went for it. So it i went to his head a little bit.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: And he...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: you went for a 35 -yard, ballooned it. Over. But those moments in the Premier League. like that's a bit of probably experience is that play it simple and you've done all the hard work There's a player free, play him in, like mate, get closer to the goal.

TheCovSquad: if you can. you know.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, he probably just needs that. you know Obviously, he's young. He just needs that next level of decision -making, etc. But I did think like his first touch looked a lot better. It looked like he got like some quick feet on him as well. And he was he was giving it to him as well. I mean, he'd give a few like decent like shoulder barges. pushing people out of the way and using his strength. and i was like this is more like it i mean this is like Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: that That's the guy who you want playing up front. I mean, so. yeah i was I was quite pleased with what he did. I was surprised when he... I was surprised when he brought a one knee on. A one knee didn't look right to me. You know, like when he was running, does he look... Did he look right to you?

Daniel Tierney: i don't know he looked like he was limping

crojam99: I don't think I've ever seen him look right when he runs.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: That's the problem.

TheCovSquad: is all clear.

Daniel Tierney: I don't know, it was weird. But i would hold it again, ill yeah I'll go back to it. I would have brought Sims on after what he did last week. Instead of, you know, give you one year a little bit more time to...

Daniel Tierney: Let's get back into the fold. He's had a few weeks off now. and you know

TheCovSquad: We need to start some kind of petition for like give.

Daniel Tierney: But...

TheCovSquad: Give Sim the...

Daniel Tierney: Give Sims a chance.

TheCovSquad: Give Sim some... Minutes.

Daniel Tierney: I know.

TheCovSquad: Thanks.

Daniel Tierney: can't well I can't believe it. I just thought, I just i even... Yeah, just I just thought it's a bit it's bit harsh, you know.

TheCovSquad: It, it... Okay. don't think I think e Sims is for Lampard. His last resort, isn't it?

Daniel Tierney: I think he might be gone in January.

TheCovSquad: I don't. it's such a shame really because i think he can He's got the... I just... I just... feel like there's a plan. there. that can come out but yeah it's a bit awkward he's a bit of a donkey but

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, there is

TheCovSquad: Allow it.

crojam99: This is the highest compliment you have in your locker.

Daniel Tierney: I know, I just thought...

TheCovSquad: No, but do you know what I mean?

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: You know Lukaku used to be for United and he'd score goals, but if the ball would bounce off his shin or it it it he wouldn't always control it great.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: And you're just sort of like, well... Okay, he's not the most technical player, but... puts the ball in the back of the net.

crojam99: Score scores, man.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: I'm not comparing Sims to Lukaku, but...

crojam99: Okay.

TheCovSquad: You know what I mean. That's my point. so people want to see a perfect footballer, don't they? That's why people don't like him because he's not a...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: a great technical footballer that everyone loves. still could come on and and cause a bit of havoc. is that You know those goals where he just gets in there, a little header or a knee and it goes goes in.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah. Yeah.

crojam99: More than I'd like to be a shin than it is a knee, but it's...

Daniel Tierney: earth

TheCovSquad: A shin, exactly.

crojam99: Yeah, I think his issue may be that if Wright comes back in... December time, January time. the he will go even further down the pecking order. because then you will have three guys and he's only playing with one up front.

crojam99: unless that changes and he goes to, I don't know, 3 -5 -2. then I think he will fall back. down the back in order.

TheCovSquad: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: and To be fair, we need to start calling him Ellis Simski now. Because he's apparently...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: Applied for a Polish Passport.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, he's gonna be representing Poland, mate.

crojam99: it

Daniel Tierney: There. Yeah.

crojam99: That was dreadful.

Daniel Tierney: Simski!

crojam99: It's awful.

TheCovSquad: Yeah, it' so... that Yeah, we've we've got an international on our hands. what who was sort of your man of the match then? Because I thought Redoni.

TheCovSquad: was good there's someone we haven't mentioned who i thought to me was man of match and that was thomas asante but i want to what would you What was your thoughts on...

Daniel Tierney: You have it.

TheCovSquad: Man of the mat.

Daniel Tierney: I really liked Asante's performance. He was... He was... everywhere. Do you know what I mean? He was he was so positive and He just, he just.

Daniel Tierney: It's like he's gone up a little bit of a level. Like, he just seems like he's... Took all the confidence and all the goals he's got from last year and he's like... yeah I'm going to do it again. He's...

Daniel Tierney: Very quick. He's very strong. He wants it. He's making a little bit better decisions as well now as well. I know we were saying last week maybe... yeah He doesn't always have the perfect pass. but You know, he's he's he's getting there, I think. oh I think he's doing well again. I mean, I think he's doing one again.

crojam99: The fact that he puts the effort that he puts in means that he will be... retained in this position for a long time because that's what our team is all about. It's about the effort levels. I think that's why.

crojam99: there's certain people not getting minutes or not even on benches because he doesn't trust them to put that work ethic in. and He's got that in abundance. sir

Daniel Tierney: Did you watch his... Postmatch. pretty much press conference for this Fulham game.

crojam99: Bye.

TheCovSquad: all right

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: We'll get on to like China and... gabano in a minute, but he was he was talking about... and basically like The guys have to buy in.

Daniel Tierney: to what we want. Do you know what I mean? and and And they have to train the way we want to train. they have to work towards this certain way and we're going to help them. We're going to help them do that.

Daniel Tierney: And I think anyone who shows that. Whatever that is, and it's probably... He talks a lot about... impressed me in training, impressed me in training. And clearly these guys who.

Daniel Tierney: wear their ass off. And to show a good attitude. other guys who impress him at training and so they will get their opportunities and i think he must be one of those guys asante because he's He'd probably come into the start of the season thinking maybe he'd be a fringe player, but he's nailed down his position.

Daniel Tierney: Do you know what I mean? and know and I wouldn't begrudge him it. I think, you know, he's... He's he's a really likeable footballer, yeah.

crojam99: He went into last season. Thinking he'd probably have a fringe player and he ended up flying, didn't he?

Daniel Tierney: Yeah. Yeah. He was brilliant.

crojam99: so

Daniel Tierney: He was superb last year. Yeah, fantastic.

TheCovSquad: He is... seventh in Interceptions. of the whole league And.

Daniel Tierney: The whole league, really.

TheCovSquad: Yeah. and above him

Daniel Tierney: That's incredible.

TheCovSquad: Joint 7th and But above him are all defenders. so

Daniel Tierney: That's smart, that is.

TheCovSquad: So he's he's getting about. he But you could see in the game he made a couple of, he did it a couple of times where they go to pass and he he gets his leg out and he's like times it. Wow. Yeah, I think work ethic.

TheCovSquad: was immense and He's actually, on the ball, he was a lot better.

Daniel Tierney: fit.

TheCovSquad: He gave him a bit of a stick last... last week because i thought His passing wasn't great, but his work ethic was there. But if he can... if he can lift that, his on -the -ball ability.

TheCovSquad: he'll be imdroppable

Daniel Tierney: Yeah. I think what you said there is actually important, the interception part, because what it can do, it can... it can basically turn a counter -attack over, can't it? Do you know what I mean? if he's If he's picking up ball, if he's intercepting it, he's probably doing it halfway line. or around that area. and If he's turning the ball over there.

Daniel Tierney: suddenly we're gone. Do you know what I mean? And we we've got an opportunity and that's... That's how you can nick games or nick points, do you know what I mean? By those quick little bursts, catch people off guard. and score goals. so

TheCovSquad: what do you What do you think about the, you mentioned the bench. What, what? Jamie, what do you think about the bench then like the players that come on whether they impact the game. And also you mentioned the thirty the two players missing.

TheCovSquad: it's disappointing to know that we've spent that amount of money we've gone out we scouted these players and they're not even good enough to get on the bench.

TheCovSquad: So. It's worrying.

crojam99: I don't know if it's necessarily that they're not good enough. I just think... yeah they don't work hard enough in the fences effectively what it is and it is a concern because If you add their two fees up, I'm not...

crojam99: enamoured with Rushworth this season at all either. and if you add them three together that's nearly well. half of our spend this summer. And... that I don't think it's performing as well as it should be. or but Or simply isn't performing at all. So... it is a concern but i think You see Hamer was playing in the under -21s earlier this week.

crojam99: to get fitness to get time to get like that that's what you want to be seeing

Daniel Tierney: He he asked for that.

crojam99: Exactly.

Daniel Tierney: He asked for that. That's what Lampard said. I'm like, that's impressive, right? Yeah.

crojam99: Yeah, that is exactly that and I think that's That's the attitude that he's trying to get. And I do think I did see... Lampard's interview. force. the pre -forum one And...

crojam99: It was... Interesting the way you went about it because I feel like after the... Was it the Newcastle game where there was there was a bit of a tantrum going on and stuff like that? and People were mentioning that he was quite angry, quite direct and and a bit...

crojam99: sharp with his words towards basically saying everyone's pulling together otherwise you know we're not interested he was a lot more like well we need to just get everyone on board we need to teach everyone how it's going to work and i think he was a lot more diplomatic telling them how it was, telling them how it needed to be.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: but in a much yeah, a calm away, which I'm hoping that they take that message on board and they can, because I do think they can offer an awful lot. if they're willing to put the work in, especially The lad from Burnley, iveve I've been impressed with his...

crojam99: When he's on the ball and he runs at people and stuff, I think he's going to create an awful lot. But you do know that. anyone runs off him. you're screwed because he's not tracking back. So we'll see. we'll see you with that.

Daniel Tierney: Lampard does make a good point, though. I mean, he's He can only pick. 18 for a match day. he's got He reckons he's got 24 -25 lads who... you know could honestly go for the shirt so it so if someone's going to miss out every week do you know what i mean and like it'll be a name that we're familiar with

Daniel Tierney: You know, he he said basically in his press conference, he said, look, if it's not... If it's not, ciao now. And... And. How do you pronounce the name? Good. Good bow, Harry.

TheCovSquad: Bow -wow.

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: Kabarro. If it's not them, then it'll be... well, how come Ellis is on the bench? Or how come Mason Clarke's on the bench? Do you know It's He's got a tough job, but...

Daniel Tierney: you know he did speak well though he was basically saying we just need them up to where we want them to be and we're going to help them to to do it And. You know what I mean? Because he wants them to play, doesn't he?

Daniel Tierney: He ain't going to spend like 50 million on...

crojam99: Yeah, exactly.

Daniel Tierney: on a couple of players to then not play on. You know, he obviously likes them and rates them. So it will be 100%. to do with can you track back and help your man? Do you know what I mean? As well as do the noise stuff going forward. Because there's no doubt. I mean, I haven't really seen.

Daniel Tierney: Uh... your mum played boho but Certainly, Chown has shown they can go forward and and take men on. It's this.

crojam99: He was good in the West Ham game. He was good in the... Oh, not the West Ham, sorry, Villa game.

Daniel Tierney: Voilà.

crojam99: in the cup.

Daniel Tierney: Hmm.

crojam99: Yeah, he was very good then and and I was... I thought that was going to be it then, that he's nailed down that position. He's going to sort of take it into the league, but he he's obviously not. But I feel like he's thrown it back into their court, hasn't he?

crojam99: He's gone, right, this is I'm telling everyone, I'm telling the world, this is what is expected.

crojam99: This is what we're going to do and this is how we're going to go about it. Now, if you're not playing, they all know it's you because you haven't done that. And that's that's good management as far as I'm concerned. so

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, I agree.

TheCovSquad: Bo -Bo also, he came in a bit late. So he mentioned that, didn't he, in his... in his interview.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: is coming a little bit late and then international duty But Borough's not young. is Well, he is is young, He's 25.

Daniel Tierney: 25, I think.

TheCovSquad: So he should be, if you're signing someone that is...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, yeah.

TheCovSquad: For... what, 10 plus million? He should be coming in and relatively ready to play, right? because if the The younger they are, normally you... You probably.

TheCovSquad: in another another squad or another Premier League squad. Your rent, you'll probably be coming in on the... the bench because he's quite raw isn't he he's good it's quite raw you still got a lot to learn Whereas...

TheCovSquad: Bo should be coming in and and being ready to play, but he probably just needs more fitness, maybe. Maybe that's it. And also in Hema. It's good to see him coming off the bench and I was happy to see that in playing and there's a lot of positivity coming out. of of Lampard saying that he's working hard. and he's sort of getting there. so I really want to see him in that team.

TheCovSquad: there's there's some as much as we're playing a lot better and we're defending we've we've got Okay, we're dropping a little bit deep. we're a bit more solid but We only had one shot in that whole game.

TheCovSquad: against Spurs. like we We do need to create more.

TheCovSquad: We need to get those players in that can unlock defences, have a shot, get a goal. Because we're just going to be relying on Rodoni because he's the only one who's looking like he's going to score.

crojam99: But where does Hamer play if Rodoni plays? That's my concern.

Daniel Tierney: think at the minute, I think he literally is going to be. that guy who'll come off the bench when we need a goal do you know what i mean when we need summit With half an hour to go.

Daniel Tierney: he's going to come on. Do you know what I mean? Because I think Rudoni's indroppable at the minute. I mean, the last couple of games, he's... He's been really, really good. you know And he's got back to the...

Daniel Tierney: the player he was before he got his Big injuries, really. And he and he looks he looks like a Premier League player, to be honest with you, don't he? So yeah.

crojam99: Do you think that he can take... Grimes's place. Although I know he's now played further forward for a long time under Robbins, he was he was a holding midfielder, or an eight, I don't know. Not so much a six, probably more of an eight.

crojam99: But could he play that? role instead of Grimes because I do think he's got a little bit more mobility than grimes and he probably offers a similar skill set not exactly the same Probably doesn't keep the ball moving as well, but he can he'd he's more likely to hit it.

crojam99: 30, 40 yard pass to release someone than Grimes would be, I would say.

Daniel Tierney: I think he could. I think he could, to be honest. I just... I think if I was going to do that though, I'd have him. Next to Onyeka. I don't know why. I just feel like Onyeka will just offer you that little bit more defensive stability than Juventus.

Daniel Tierney: because, oh, what a lovely UNG is a top player. Sometimes he gets a little bit carried away and like, it's like he mounts people or like, I mean, he's, you know, he gets a bit touchy feely with them.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: He loves the pocket.

Daniel Tierney: I'm done.

TheCovSquad: He loves the pocket.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, from a defensive perspective, sometimes I'm like... you know but But yeah, I think Hamer certainly could. He's great on the ball and he's fearless. He'll come and collect it off anyone, same as Grimes. you know, we come and take it off the... the two centre -halves.

Daniel Tierney: on the half turn and let's go and play. so Possibly, yeah. Why not?

TheCovSquad: could Could you play Hamer and Redoni alongside each other? then have the Onyeka or... or your enchi as the holding and and and okay this is not probably away but at home and it's a bit more how Man City play. don't they? They they have the they have like the one and then the four and one.

TheCovSquad: It obviously can't always be like that, but from a tacking point of view... that That could work. potentially

crojam99: Could you do a box midfield with Jerenke Onyeka as your holder?

crojam99: So you've got loads of legs in there and then you have... Hamer and Redoni up top. Possibly. Yeah, they're going to have to do a lot of getting up and down them pair, but... They'll both do it.

TheCovSquad: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: Yeah, it'll be good good to see. ah um we need to We need to keep... creating chances, but have some fucking shots. Like... We need to shoot a bit more, like one shot the whole game. There's been a couple of games like that where... We're not we're not shooting enough. We're not getting shots on target.

TheCovSquad: He just disappeared for a minute then. Goodbye. Is that the Halloween party?

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: That's it, mate.

Daniel Tierney: Eh.

TheCovSquad: but Okay, so back to the back to the game. The second the second goal. What's the thoughts on what happened there? There was a bit of ah an elbow. in the face. I'm not quite sure myself.

TheCovSquad: But... Lampard weren't very happy after the game.

Daniel Tierney: I can see why. I mean, he you know he he catches him flush in the face, but... For me, it's not a foul. well it It might be a foul, but I don't like to see it given as a foul because I've done this many a time playing football. You're just feeling that that the person behind you and you and you catch them.

TheCovSquad: You're dirty back there.

Daniel Tierney: it's it's accident it's accident yeah basically yeah it's accidental but It's accidental but... Yeah, I can see why he's annoyed because at the end of the day, it does it it would it would hurt the defender. It's going to hurt.

Daniel Tierney: And ultimately it's. prevented him from potentially getting back in and stopping the goal. so But for me, I wouldn't say it's a foul. I think they'd be very generous.

crojam99: a

crojam99: i think if you if you if it's against you you want it If that makes sense. if For commentary, we think it's about...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah. Yeah.

crojam99: Spurs, you know, that's never a foul. I also think if that was in...

crojam99: That. their left back position and he had done that to Van Uygh. that it would be a different outcome it's it's It's harder to give that free kick there.

Daniel Tierney: God bless you.

TheCovSquad: It shouldn't be though, should it really?

crojam99: No, it shouldn't. It absolutely shouldn't, but it is. If he gives that anywhere else where there's not that opportunity, although the outcome isn't what it is, I think he would have probably given that. Because the amount of soft shit he was giving happened throughout the whole game.

Daniel Tierney: He was terrible.

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: he Yeah, I think... I to think I might have made myself clear on that on the WhatsApp.

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: I hated him.

TheCovSquad: Yeah, we weren't getting anything in the first half, especially like it was all going against us. I didn't feel like we really had. the flow of the game in that in like a decision point of view

Daniel Tierney: No.

TheCovSquad: I think the ref was giving them a lot.

Daniel Tierney: No, he was terrible.

crojam99: Absolutely.

Daniel Tierney: He gave some... guess some wild I think the one that yeah the ones that stood out for me were like... You know, he he bought your entry really early for... nothing really and he booked someone else as well really early I can't remember who it was and I just thought they're really soft and then the sp I think Solanke done a worse one brought him down. and He wasn't going to book him until Asante.

Daniel Tierney: complain basically and he eventually pulled the card out It was a clear yellow. And then... And then there was one where Redoni, he's on the break. and he cuts inside Tenali and Tenali just grabs him and like throws him to the floor.

Daniel Tierney: He's not given the free kick, but then... i shot the sheriff goes out there and he gives him the good news like a little bit of a shoulder badge and like Hanoi. It's nothing.

Daniel Tierney: It's never a foul. And he's given the foul against him, against Tenali. And you're like... that's oh i just he was terrible

Daniel Tierney: It's terrible.

TheCovSquad: I think there's a bit of learning there where you play against Man City and they just fall over, like Anderson.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: But do you not think Van Uyck, though, did...

TheCovSquad: He... he

crojam99: fall over and that's the problem

TheCovSquad: But he delayed he delayed it If you if you see it, he like gets elbowed and then he waits and then he goes down.

crojam99: Texas, yeah. For the pain.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: It's like it's got a delayed pain reaction.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, I mean, that didn't look right.

TheCovSquad: I would say there's decisions gone in the past where a flailing hand has gone out. And players have been sent off for it.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: I remember Son once. He put his hand out like that on the ball. And it like touched someone's face and he went down. And he got sent off.

Daniel Tierney: I wonder he got sent off for not too dissimilar incident, to be honest.

TheCovSquad: I can't remember. And... And it was like. He wasn't meant to do it, but because the player went down straight away, clutching his face. it was like seen as a foul but also was a red card but that I think that might have been. it he didn't go down straight on contact as if That's completely blocked me from defending because I don't think...

TheCovSquad: I think they're saying that you run into the arm and it come off. I don't know. I would have loved it to be disallowed, but...

crojam99: I think it's...

TheCovSquad: It was, it was. 50 50.

Daniel Tierney: I think it would have been.

crojam99: But he should have been saved.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: It should have been saved.

Daniel Tierney: It's a...

crojam99: yeah Like I say, I don't want to suddenly start piling on Rushworth because he was fantastic last year.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: but i have not seen an awful lot this season that makes me believe that he was worth that money and don't Don't even remember. Before the season, I was saying, spend whatever it takes to get him.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, yeah. amen

TheCovSquad: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

crojam99: 100%. But I'm now... like you I think he should have saved. two of the like two of the goals on Monday night. I think there's been other goals. There's a few absolute worldies that we've, like, he ain't saving Madison's, no one's saving that.

crojam99: But he gets two hands to that. He's got to save it. And the one in the last... a couple of minutes the for the third goal i want him to be saving them i'm expecting him to be saving these

TheCovSquad: Well at 1 -1 you'd have been fucking gutted if that went in.

crojam99: Yes, exactly.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, 100%.

TheCovSquad: Yeah.

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: I was even gutted then because we still had a couple of minutes left and we were counting there half and I was like...

crojam99: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: Well, that's it then, isn't it? Do you know what I mean? and and and Yeah, he... I love Kyle Richworth, so I'm never going to slag him, but I mean... He... He does need a few good performances now.

Daniel Tierney: Do you know what I mean? Like, just to steady the ship because... I mean... You've got to have confidence in your goalkeeper, right? Especially the back four. like

Daniel Tierney: and And I think they do, primarily because three of the four played with him last year and they know how good he is. But. something will creep into the back of your mind, a bit of indecision sometimes. If you don't think the goalie is going to come and get it or you think, oh God, he might drop this one or whatever. It can creep in and and that can cause problems in the defence.

Daniel Tierney: yeah i think he could do really do with like a couple of really big games because you know just to show how good he is because there's no doubt about his abilities All there is distribution superb. He's a great shot stopper.

Daniel Tierney: Just need him. to kick on now because we've got We've got three really winnable games here coming up. And. We need to win them. Well, we don't need to win them, obviously, but but we need to get some points on the ball from these three, don't we?

TheCovSquad: did Didn't he start off a little bit like this though last year? Like last season, right at the start.

crojam99: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: where he come in and there was a little bit of he was flapping at a few things and and And hopefully just he just settles a little bit. and

crojam99: heavens This should have been the game, though.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, yeah

TheCovSquad: everyone's probably

crojam99: This was the game where, like... Because... If we'd got a one all out of that game. And he had pulled off the two saves to save the goals that went in. I think even if he'd saved, say, the second goal, for instance, when I first saw it, I thought, fuck it. Any danger of someone just, like, not being able to shoot?

crojam99: in the the corner of every goal for against us.

Daniel Tierney: A worldie, yeah.

crojam99: Yeah, it's just, and then you see it and you're like... Nah, he's got two hands on that. He has to save that. He has to save that. and but if he had saved that and he then saved what would have been you know the the second goal.

crojam99: the third goal that was scored. you would go, that was the game. That was the game where he's done what he needed to. he would He couldn't do anything against Madison. There was nothing else that he did wrong, really, in the game. He didn't have that much to do. And he saved them two that he should save. You'd be happy with that. That's a solid performance. You take your point. You get out of there. You're happy with it.

crojam99: And that's my concern. is and We said it last time. Every time the ball drops to the edge of the area, I'm shitting myself because I don't trust that the keeper's going to save it or it's not going to be the best shot I've ever seen in my life.

crojam99: And... it's not a great situation to be in at the minute where I feel like we're going to have to score two to get a win in a game because I feel like there's either a howler or an amazing goal getting scored.

Daniel Tierney: Do you think there's ever a scenario where your man... that they bought in. Is it Bentley? gets gets a nudge in the next few weeks.

TheCovSquad: No.

crojam99: No, I thought...

TheCovSquad: Oh, he's fucking...

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: Terrible.

crojam99: I've not heard these. after Yeah, I've heard the same.

Daniel Tierney: No, I'm just saying, you know, if...

TheCovSquad: Well, he didn't play well against, was it Villa?

Daniel Tierney: if you know you know, say if the worst, you know, the worst come.

TheCovSquad: He was fucking flapping.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: But... But... To your point, Jamie, yeah, I think we need that to survive. like One of the reasons we got promoted last year was him.

crojam99: 100%, 100%.

TheCovSquad: like he he He made so many saves where you're like, that should have been a goal.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: He was class.

TheCovSquad: That should have been a goal and we would have wouldn wouldn' either wouldn't have won that game or we might have lost. And.

Daniel Tierney: And what's weird is no one's hitting the ball any better or worse. I know it's the Premier League, but... You know, you can't hit the ball better. like

TheCovSquad: Well Madison's goal was that that i think I think the thing is, we're giving people chances.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: But he wasn't saving that last year either.

Daniel Tierney: No.

TheCovSquad: We're giving people so much space on the edge of the box that they've got time to like. put And they've got the ability to do it in the Premier League. like they can hit They're in training doing that every day, like smashing balls top corner. So we give them that amount of space. It's going to be like just training for them.

TheCovSquad: But if you if you look at... if you look at hall for example who while we're talking about lowest xg and conceding goals and and They're below us. But they're high up in the league and their goalie's got the most saves in the league.

TheCovSquad: having such a good goalie is probably helping them being like, well.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: we We are letting chances against us, but we've got this goalie behind us. as that making saving and giving us a chance in games. And we really... We really need that.

crojam99: Absolutely. Rushford sits at the bottom of the League Four. points lost due to performance if that makes sense from the goalkeepers. Now it's not massive but it's never going to be at this point yet.

Daniel Tierney: Does it?

crojam99: Yeah

Daniel Tierney: Asshole.

crojam99: So...

Daniel Tierney: That's a horrible start, by the way.

crojam99: It's...

Daniel Tierney: that's how Halloween has started.

crojam99: it is Okay.

crojam99: Please. And yeah, but last year, like you say, he probably, how many one -on -ones did he manage?

TheCovSquad: Hey.

crojam99: You know, when they're running through and you're thinking, oh, fucking here we go. And he's pulled out a leg and he saved it.

Daniel Tierney: Unbelievable.

crojam99: or He was fantastic.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: And he probably got us 15 points last year. he's got a lot of grace but he has to He has to turn around. I feel like the outfield players. look like they've got the confidence to go no we can do this he now needs to look like he sometimes I feel like he does sort of almost shrink a little bit and Whereas last year he he had all the confidence in the world and it's like he just needs that.

crojam99: that game starting tomorrow against Fulham. of the match and then it will be sound for the rest of the season.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, right. Yes.

crojam99: sir

Daniel Tierney: He should want to do it for himself as well because I'm telling you now, like... You know, Pickford's coming to the end at England. john if he If he ever had a chance. you know to have it you know to get himself in the window. It's this season.

Daniel Tierney: I mean, coming up, playing for a newly promoted side, going to get a lot of shots against him. If he has a good season. He's already started dropping. trafford into games do i mean so he's already thinking about right Pickford might be on the way out.

Daniel Tierney: You know, it's in his it's in his greatest of interest to... to to pick this one up. this year. and i just hope I just hope he gets back to that form last year. because he was He was a difference maker.

Daniel Tierney: Amen.

TheCovSquad: I just think, yeah, he needs that game. He needs a man of a match game. He got man of the match last season. I don't know how many times but it was up there with the most in the team i don't know exactly how many but he was always rated the high one of the highest players in the in the team.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: And he needs to, that like you said, he just needs that game. tomorrow. So, tomorrow's game then. What? Follow. Below us, Where are they in the league?

TheCovSquad: 18th. And... What do you think? What's the predictions?

Daniel Tierney: Oh. It's a tough one because, again, we look we said this last week about Spurs and we're going to say it again about Fulham. They're good on the ball. They keep the ball really well. They've got some really dangerous players. They've got Iwobi. They got Bob.

Daniel Tierney: They've got that Josh King. he's a lovely player

crojam99: Very good.

Daniel Tierney: You've got Sanderberg in the middle of the park. Do you know what I mean? so These aren't a walkover. These are really good. really good side and they're just i think they've just lost a bit of spark you know they lost wilson and Jimenez. And they don't really have any goals in them. and So it's quite a similar picture to Spurs last week.

Daniel Tierney: I think we can win this game. because it's at home. i think if we i think it was an away game i think i might think differently but i think I think we can win this game. I think where...

Daniel Tierney: we're gonna win it is probably in the void areas. If we can. If we can keep getting balls into the box and, you know, it doesn't matter which one of our three centre forwards start. They're all big lads. If we can get them and Redoni like he likes to do. arriving late in the box, big header of the ball.

Daniel Tierney: I think that's where we could. where we could have some joy. and so Yeah, i think I think we'll get a good result tomorrow.

crojam99: I think we need a good result tomorrow. i think i I honestly think that these will be down there at the end of the season. you know like Spurs, I think, are in a false position. I've watched them a few times and I don't think their results night. uh accurate to their performance. Whereas I think with...

crojam99: Fulham. I do think they're going to be down there with us if we're in that position. So I think it's vital that we get something at least to point it.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

crojam99: But I think we've got it. We'll win. I'm pretty confident we're gonna win. i think I think it'll be goals. both both ends but i think They almost suit us in the fact that they will have a lot of the ball.

crojam99: We can count on them. We did that an awful lot last season. There's there's plenty of games where you'd play... big table championships and they had a lot of the ball but we would just break on them and score. with multiple goals and I feel like that's what it will be tomorrow.

crojam99: Sorry.

crojam99: with

TheCovSquad: No, no, honestly, I'm with you guys.

crojam99: and

TheCovSquad: I'm the same this week. I definitely feel. This is... This is on the level of forest. kind of game where we're going in where we need a win. But obviously not as we don't need to be as nervous and worried about Worried about actually... of winning but I think we've got the ability to turn these over.

TheCovSquad: And that would be great because we would then be on. depending on obviously how Hull and Ipswich do, but we'd be sort of around the same points of them. pushes us up the league a bit. And what we don't want is to drop into the bottom three again. Like if we can stay out the bottom three, just that mentality of not being in the relegation zone.

TheCovSquad: I think that that's massive as well.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, I agree. If you keep your head above water, then yeah you know it just gives you that boost. You're like, well, we're not, you know. We're not scrapping yet. Do you know what I mean? We're just collecting points. We're moving up the table. We're doing our thing.

Daniel Tierney: And. Yeah. Would you make any changes for tomorrow? What would you what would you go with? And do you reckon your man Chowna? And Gabo will make the squad or?

TheCovSquad: it's it's It's a tough one, what you how you change it, to be honest.

crojam99: Does he see any weaknesses in Fulham that would...

crojam99: would warrant them to. and what they bring on the attacking front. That's what you've got to think, I suppose.

TheCovSquad: Well, their best two players are at the moment King, who's...

crojam99: Yeah, it's class.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah. like think.

TheCovSquad: had the most touches in in the opposing box In the league. So he's he's...

Daniel Tierney: He sits around.

TheCovSquad: He's a threat all all the time.

crojam99: Swallow the stats book.

TheCovSquad: I'm the Stato now.

Daniel Tierney: Hey, you understand.

crojam99: what

Daniel Tierney: I like this from you. And do you know what I like about it? The fact that I don't know it. So I'm really amazed by all these new facts. So it's great.

crojam99: but

TheCovSquad: So. And Iwobi. Iwobi's been their best player for a few seasons now.

Daniel Tierney: He's a good player, yeah.

TheCovSquad: And I think they're the two, if we can keep an hold of them. And they they play so... like they're playing a They're playing so wide, they'd like push their full backs. really high and wide And they try and play football.

TheCovSquad: So maybe we can just, we can get past that and we can do some countering.

TheCovSquad: i don't I don't really know. how it's going to be as long as we're clinical I think there's gonna be lots of chances for us tomorrow.

Daniel Tierney: So you said that Robinson at left back, he's a really good fullback, but he likes to get forward.

TheCovSquad: Okay.

Daniel Tierney: His game is getting forward. So if we can get. into those spaces in the wide areas you know again i would start with sakamoto again because i feel like The more games he plays, the better he's going to get. and He'll give Robinson a game tomorrow. Do you know what I mean? he he will really take him on and test him and if he ain't there because he's pushed up Guess who's going to get in behind? Do you know what I mean? It'll be Sakamoto, it'll be Radoni.

Daniel Tierney: I mean, into those pockets. so Yeah, I definitely saw them.

TheCovSquad: So watch. what What's your prediction then at a goal scorer, first goal scorer?

Daniel Tierney: I'm gonna go.

TheCovSquad: prediction.

crojam99: Burn a bell.

Daniel Tierney: I'm going to go hey yeah no Yeah, do you want this for an aka?

TheCovSquad: but

Daniel Tierney: I'm going to go Rushworth Masterclass.

TheCovSquad: Okay. Okay.

Daniel Tierney: All right. We're going to win. 1 -0. And. I think. Redoni's gonna score it.

TheCovSquad: Jamie?

crojam99: 3 -1 Modoni.

Daniel Tierney: You're very positive.

crojam99: no I honestly think they... I've seen a few Fulham games. they they liked having the ball. they look like they're going to score a goal. but they look like they're going to concede a goal.

crojam99: I feel like it's going to feel be a bit of a Newcastle game. I do. I don't know whether we get that first goal. I'm hoping so because that then brings them on even more. and There's more space, but I think...

Daniel Tierney: i so

crojam99: Yeah. Free will.

Daniel Tierney: What are you saying, Malin? What are you saying?

TheCovSquad: I'm going... Two, one.

Daniel Tierney: Solid.

TheCovSquad: Madoni.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah.

TheCovSquad: to Redoni.

Daniel Tierney: think I think it's unanimous on Madone. I think he does carry. You know he's going to start, don't you? Do you know what I mean? 100 % he's going to start. And he carries a really big threat. he's He's getting better and better every game. so

TheCovSquad: if he If he scores tomorrow... That exact point he scores is going in my fantasy team. I'm just going to sub anyone out and he's going in.

Daniel Tierney: I almost put him in this week.

TheCovSquad: I wanted to do it last week and I didn't. And then I thought, now I'll leave it another week. So he's 100 % going in.

Daniel Tierney: he's getting that shoulder injury back as soon as you do that mate you know that don't you

crojam99: well

TheCovSquad: While I run the games now, I run the games of quite favourable.

crojam99: Hopefully not. and

TheCovSquad: like you showed we should be we need to wear this three out of six winnable games there.

Daniel Tierney: Yeah, next three in it, Fulham, Sunderland, Everton.

crojam99: Yeah. and then But then it's Palace. uh absolution leads

Daniel Tierney: this. Palisades which lead...

TheCovSquad: Yeah.

Daniel Tierney: We could take some points here.

TheCovSquad: we we need to be We need to be picking up. at least two, three wins out of them.

Daniel Tierney: No disrespect to those teams, but this is this before the season, if you look at all these teams and they're all in a little bit of...

TheCovSquad: So.

Daniel Tierney: Limbo like whether they've lost a manager changed a manager know They haven't brought any players in. Or... They've lost a few players. These are the teams that you can hopefully try and get at. and and pick a few points off. so This is like, this is. probably the next six weeks are probably going to be.

Daniel Tierney: a make or break for us if we can start. storing his points up before christmas that'd be grand

crojam99: What do you think we get if we can get? Two wins before we go to the in international break in November And then you've got that run of three games, like I say, I think Leeds and...

Daniel Tierney: te up

crojam99: you see in a moment i said Ipswich, you know my feelings on Ipswich, so I'm never confident in playing them. So even if you've got four points out of them three games. It's a return of 10 points out of 6. You'd play that, wouldn't you? sorry

Daniel Tierney: 100%. Yeah. defer.

TheCovSquad: Roy. sound. It's been a pleasure, as always.

Daniel Tierney: Yep.

crojam99: always.

Daniel Tierney: Good to see you boys.

crojam99: Nice one.

TheCovSquad: Yeah, good to see you. Speak soon.

Daniel Tierney: Enjoy the game, lads.

crojam99: Yes.

Daniel Tierney: and speak to you I'll probably speak to you during the game or after the game My wrist just got a clean sheet.

crojam99: Yeah. Wow. You get your bet on mailing 3 -1.

TheCovSquad: Fucking Einstein.

TheCovSquad: i'
