Podcast Resumes After Hiatus

00:00:06
Speaker
Alright, so welcome back to the Tri-State Area Takeover Phineas and Ferb rewatch podcast. ah I'm Allie. Once again, we're back with Maria.
00:00:19
Speaker
We're back after a long hiatus. Well, a brief impromptu hiatus.

Season 5 Phineas and Ferb Premiere

00:00:23
Speaker
And lucky for us, since we took a hiatus, we now have an official release date for when season five of Phineas and Ferb will be out.
00:00:34
Speaker
It looks like they will be releasing them in conjunction with Disney Channel and Disney Plus. So if you don't have cable anymore, as many people don't.
00:00:45
Speaker
You can feel free to watch it on Disney Plus the day after it premieres. So it'll premiere June 5th on Disney Channel and then the next day, June 6th on Disney Plus.
00:00:56
Speaker
And I think Disney's already hyping it up a lot because i will be channel surfing and Phineas and Ferb will just randomly be on on Disney Channel, which is really weird because normally the only thing that Disney Channel plays nowadays are either...

To Watch or Not to Watch Before Podcast?

00:01:14
Speaker
episodes of zombie reanimated episodes of kiff episodes of big city green and bluey so it's nice to know that disney channel is finally getting some more content i'm trying i want to re-watch the show and i want to watch it when it comes out but i'm afraid as to what are your thoughts maria should i go ahead and watch season five or should i remain fresh for the podcast and not watch it until we get there because Unfortunately, because it's so close to when it's coming out, there's no way we're going to get through four seasons of Phineas and Ferb and all the movies by the time the season comes I think you should go ahead and watch it.
00:01:53
Speaker
Because by the time we get to it, maybe you see it in a different eyes. Maybe you see it differently. and maybe or maybe you don't even remember it. I like your thinking. I really do.
00:02:05
Speaker
Because I was just like, ah I don't know what if I should watch it. And I want to watch it, but also I don't want to ruin the viewing experience. But also... Watching season one of Phineas and Ferb over again, like gives me new perspective, like especially watching it in order. Now I noticed little things that I didn't notice before.
00:02:25
Speaker
So yeah, watching. I think that's what I may do. I may watch it. I will keep my thoughts to myself for for now. Maybe i will give it like a thumbs up, thumbs down whenever we record our podcast.
00:02:39
Speaker
If I liked the new episode of the fifth season, um a thumbs up or thumbs down. And that's all you'll get from me until we get there.

The Magnificent Few: Episode Overview

00:02:48
Speaker
But other than that, I will just lead us into The Magnificent Few and Swinter. And we'll start with The Magnificent Few.
00:02:56
Speaker
The title of it actually is supposed to be a play off of like a Western movie called The Magnificent Seven. It has a reboot that came out pretty recently and it has an older version from like, I don't know what year, but I know that there's two versions of this movie.
00:03:10
Speaker
But I guess that's why it's called The Magnificent Few, which makes sense because it's a bit of a Western episode. And this episode starts off with cowboys herding cattle. Then we get a cowboy coming into focus and singing a kind of song called On the Trail as the as the cowboys in the background begin to herd these cattle.
00:03:30
Speaker
Just as the song ends, the camera pulls back out and we find out that Phineas is actually watching this. I assumed it was a music video, but I saw like in comments that it was actually a movie.
00:03:43
Speaker
on like a what looks like to be like an iPod. i don't think iPods had the capability of playing a full movie. I would have assumed it was a music video. I don't know. Someone can correct me there, but that's what I thought that was.
00:03:58
Speaker
And he is like Phineas is watching this as him and Ferb are riding this like horse ride at this carnival. And the mom's just dropping them off at Clem's carnival is what it's called.
00:04:12
Speaker
Candace being a teenager is also unfortunately being left at this carnival. i don't know why her mom would just leave her with like at this carnival when she knows very well that Candace wouldn't like this carnival.
00:04:27
Speaker
But I guess she needs someone one to watch the boys at the carnival. So it kind of makes sense. And of course, Candace being a teenager, she's just going to want to talk on the phone with her friends.
00:04:40
Speaker
So she ends up just like sitting on a fence, lounging, talking with her friends on the phone. Just a quick fit check on Phineas and Ferb because they got the cutest outfits like Ferb. Although Ferb is not 100 percent committed to this bit, he is wearing a helmet with a cowboy hat on top.
00:04:58
Speaker
It is Phineas who's like going all out and he's got a little he's also got ah a cowboy hat ah with his helmet, but he's also got a vest, a bandana and these adorable little like cowboy black and white cowboy boots and a belt buckle.
00:05:15
Speaker
He just went all out for this like little pony ride he did. it's just so adorable.

Isabella's Independent Side

00:05:22
Speaker
And they run into ah Isabella, who just happens to be there earning her milking patch.
00:05:27
Speaker
This might be one of the first times where Isabella isn't like 100% right behind Phineas being like, oh, what's she doing? Like she's here on her own terms and not because Phineas is there, which I appreciate that, you know, Isabella has a bit of her own like life going on and it's not revolving around Phineas.
00:05:44
Speaker
I do like their help their're cowboy hats over the helmets, though. I think it's pretty funny. is like It is. I think that might be the first time. they They always wear helmets, but that's what they don't know. like I think in a later episode, they they have helmets on, but it looks like their skull.
00:06:01
Speaker
And they literally show their mom, like, hey, we're wearing helmets. And they take them off. And it's literally their head.

Perry's Mission Briefing

00:06:07
Speaker
But, like... their hair and their head like disattach and it's so funny so these boys are always playing it safe but also in style so Isabella asked the key question of what they're up to today Phineas kind of gives him this gives her this like spiel about like riding horses and wanting to be like a real cowboy and it kind of makes him hanker for the real thing and he's like I don't even know what half the stuff I said means but I want to be like a cowboy
00:06:33
Speaker
And after after that spiel, we cut to Perry the platypus kind of jumping into like a trough of water and swims to his hideout. And I forget that Perry the platypus is an aquatic mammal.
00:06:45
Speaker
So I forget. I was like, how is he swimming? And I'm like, oh, because he's a platypus. He swims to his hideout all while being attacked by a laser shark. When he finally makes it to Major Monogram, Major Monogram is having like a weird teenage girl conversation with Carl, i guess. I assume it's Carl, his intern, because he has this whole conversation of like, and then she was like, oh no, he didn't. Oh yes, she did.
00:07:06
Speaker
it was a whole kind of conversation like that that happened, which was the same conversation Candace was having on the phone with her friend. It's times like these when I really do appreciate Perry the Platypus not being a talking,
00:07:19
Speaker
animal because the only thing that Perry the platypus does is like do the little chatter with his teeth but even that like it's very understandable like you can context clues you can understand what he's trying to tell you but this is so genius because he didn't even say anything he just blinked his eyes very slowly at Major Monogram And automatically Major Monogram knew what he did wrong and he left the laser sharks on And that was like Perry the Platypus showing his irritation at Major Monogram for forgetting to turn those

Doofenshmirtz's Termite Control Plan

00:07:51
Speaker
off. So Major Monogram gives gives him the whole spiel about Doofenshmirtz and what he's up to this day. We learned two things. We learned that Dr. Doofenshmirtz has won three overdue books at the library about insects.
00:08:03
Speaker
And then he has purchased all the aluminum siding and he's like cornered the market on them. And that he's at his hideout on Lake Winnie Mina. Ha ha ha. I don't even know. how I don't even know if that's how you pronounce that name.
00:08:17
Speaker
But it's a weird name for a lake. And Perry the Platypus, being the A-plus agent he is, takes down his notes and he he makes his way to Doofenshmirtz's water hideout fortress.
00:08:28
Speaker
And he takes us a jet ski out to the lake. And when he finally lands in this like in this water fortress, Dr. D automatically traps him and introduces him to his quote-unquote assistant Vanessa.
00:08:40
Speaker
And we later find out that Vanessa is actually his daughter. And we get this whole spiel about like what Dr. D's plan is here. And I guess the only important thing that you need to know is that he has built a termite helmet, hence why he has the three books overdue at the library, to control all the termites in the tri-state area.
00:08:56
Speaker
His whole plan is to get the termites to and to control all the termites And to get them to eat all the wood in the tri-state area. Therefore, by forcing people to buy aluminum siding.
00:09:09
Speaker
And since he's cornered the market, he's going to make his money back. But honestly, i don't know. This plan is kind of... An interesting one. Like there is no tragic backstory. There's nothing to it.
00:09:20
Speaker
Just that he's trying to make some money buying aluminum siding and eating and having termites eat all the wood in the tri-state area. Which kind of like made me think of like Ant-Man.
00:09:32
Speaker
and like how he basically just he became Ant-Man but with termites I think that's funny because I think doesn't Ant-Man control with like little it's sonic waves that he sends through like an earpiece and that's basically kind of like what Dr. Doofenshmirtz created I don't know I want to say yes But you can correct me if I'm wrong.
00:09:50
Speaker
And so Dr. Doofenshmirtz reveals that he has a death trap laid out for Perry the platypus. And it's just the floor becomes lava. And he's just dangling from the top of the ceiling.
00:10:00
Speaker
And Dr. D unleashes all the termites. And they start eating all the wood.

Cattle Stampede Chaos

00:10:05
Speaker
And it comes back to Candace sitting um that same face that we left her on earlier. And all the termites come towards her. And they eat the fence that she's sitting on.
00:10:16
Speaker
And Candace runs for her life past the outhouse into a barn and the termites eat everything there too. And they eat the barn, releasing all the cows in that barn. Realistically, i don't think the termites would have eaten everything so quickly. I think termites like are slow creatures. So it takes them a like slower to eat everything.
00:10:35
Speaker
But I want to assume that Dr. Dufenshmirtz made them like eat faster or something when you put the little helmets on them. So because the the barn was holding the cows, the cows start stampeding towards town. Phineas and Ferb get on horses that they were riding on earlier and they go to corral the horses and bring them back from downtown downbo Danville, which is where they're headed to.
00:10:56
Speaker
And they try to bring them back to the carnival. Candace is somehow leading the the stampede too. At least for a moment, she falls in face-versus into mud, but for a moment, she was leading that stampede. you know Phineas and Ferb with Isabella, ah with the cutest pony you've ever seen, follows the cattle downtown and they make their way to downtown Danville. And the cattle somehow end up at the Googleplex mall. They stampede in a store and that has like a big sale. Customers first trample the manager and then the and then the cows trample the manager, which was hilarious. The boys try to each wrangle like all the cattle. Phineas goes into the the clothing store and herds a cow out of the dressing room. One of them was even trying on outfits like they even stop and look at themselves in the mirror and they have they're trying on an outfit I think it was a blue skirt and pink bra it didn't match but I do appreciate that the cow like trying on the skirt and a bra.
00:11:52
Speaker
And then we get Ferb herding the cows out of an elevator. And they sing a version of On the Trail, but instead of On the Trail, it's called In the Mall. As they sing this song as they're going up and down the escalators in the mall, which is actually a lyric from this song.
00:12:08
Speaker
from the song. Reb is playing the guitar in the background and they stop by the food court and they're getting food. Like the cows and them are all lined up cafeteria style picking out and grabbing their food.
00:12:20
Speaker
And they're all sitting down and having their food and they're having their lunch. And i just find this so this is such a funny visual gag because as like if you pause it just right i think the cows are eating burgers.
00:12:32
Speaker
I don't know if you noticed that Maria. But I think the cows were eating burgers because I counted at least nine of them eating something that looked like a burger bun and ah lettuce in between. And I was like, from far away, they look like burgers.
00:12:46
Speaker
And I was like, do these cows know that they're eating themselves? And is it funny that they're eating themselves? Or they could be just having like a chicken sandwich, just like Chick-fil-A wants us to think. Did you notice that?
00:12:59
Speaker
Did you notice that the the cows were eating burgers? Yeah. I did notice that and then I noticed as they were exiting the cafeteria, there is a sign that says today's special beef.
00:13:10
Speaker
I noticed that too. I was like, that's funny. I wonder if they changed that on purpose because they saw the cows stampeding through the mall. I don't know if you also noticed, like, previous to them getting to the mall, they were at the subway, and there is a sign and at the top of the subway that says, Buena Vista, which also, i think, is a reference to Disney because Disney had a brand named Buena think so. I think they still do. Like, I think, well, Disney World's, like, offices are on Lake Buena Vista. Like, I think that is probably reference. Yeah.
00:13:49
Speaker
But they were afraid to be copyrighted like a real place in Danville, I think. Maybe. I might be wrong on that. So we cut to Candace driving, riding her bike through downtown. And here's the thing.
00:14:01
Speaker
How did Candace get from the outskirts of town? And at some point, she made it from the outskirts of town all the way to downtown on her bike, the magic reappearing bike. Okay, we're gonna have to talk about this because the bike just randomly appears like she had time to go home and get this bike to follow the boys downtown. This bike is just magic because it just appears conveniently when Candace needs it the most.
00:14:27
Speaker
As she passes through the downtown, actually, there's a sign behind it that says herding cattle through downtown. No horns, please, I think is what it says. Clever. At least the city is aware of the of the cattle going through downtown.
00:14:41
Speaker
Oh, no. the The sign says stampede downtown. No horns. And then she is on a hill and she rolls down the hill and she runs into Hanley's cow emporium. She runs in there asking if there's anything that they sell to stop a stampeding herd of cattle.
00:14:59
Speaker
The man tries to convince her that you know what you need is a wolf puppet. And Candace is not having any of that, obviously, because a wolf puppet isn't going to do anything. So the guy eventually like convinces her to buy a cow whistle.
00:15:14
Speaker
And it looks like she pays like 50 cents, I want to assume, because she drops two silver coins. So I assume it's 50 cents. It could have been like dollar coins and she could have paid $2. Either way, Candace was robbed because the cow whistle doesn't work. I mean, she thinks it works at first because it stops the cows because the cows are actually obeying traffic rules.
00:15:34
Speaker
But then it the traffic light turns green and the cows just run through and they run past the the man's store again. The guy just puts up a sign that says we're closed because of Stampede.
00:15:45
Speaker
So Candace can't ask for her money back. Candace calls her mom and tells her that the boys are driving cattle through downtown. And if only she looks out her window because her mom just happens to be at the hairdressers downtown.
00:15:57
Speaker
And if she looks out her window, she could see the cows. And the mom does see the cattle, but it actually is just a delivery truck that delivers farm fresh milk. It's called Swampy's Farm Fresh Milk, a nod to the co-creator of the show.
00:16:12
Speaker
That's why the mom is just like, oh, you're very funny, Candice, and then hangs up the phone. I still don't understand why the mom... I don't believe that the mom didn't hear the cattle running through downtown, especially if they pass her window.
00:16:28
Speaker
But also she was under the hairdryer, and I feel like the hairdryers are super loud, especially if they have them on my blast. So maybe the mom didn't hear them, but... I feel like she should have, if not heard them, she could have at least smelled the cows.

Perry's Escape and Doofenshmirtz's Priorities

00:16:42
Speaker
Because cows smell really bad. Like, you can smell animals. and then just reminded me of that. From a couple of, like, miles away, you can smell the farm animal.
00:16:51
Speaker
And I'm surprised that she didn't smell it. But she once again, she's at the hairdressers. All the chemicals in a hairdresser's, like, place are strong. So maybe that's why.
00:17:02
Speaker
We then go back to Perry the platypus and his death trap. And Perry manages to get out of his trap by swinging to one side and the rope catches fire with the lava and it untangles the rope. Perry the platypus hits the self-destruct button that just happens to be conveniently located in the death trap chamber. And I love that Vanessa is not afraid to call out her dad when she's just like, you put a self-destruct button in a death chamber. And she points out that this is the worst, like, bring your daughter to work day ever. Very, very angsty teenager she is. She is so real for that.
00:17:37
Speaker
Duvinschmerz then tries to tell her, hey, can you tell your mom you had fun, though? A child of divorce, as you could say, be like, please tell your your mom you had fun, though, because then, like, visiting privileges could be taken away. But I think that's funny. And that's how we learned that Vanessa is his daughter. And Vanessa leaves and takes the last escape pod. And Doofenshmirtz is like, ah should be fine. I have a jetpack. Doofenshmirtz is not the brightest man.
00:18:00
Speaker
He forgot that he left the jetpack in the death chamber. And also just by coincidence, also left Perry the Platypus an escape hatch. And then the funniest moment in this episode is when Doofenshmirtz just thinks, oh, well, I guess I'm running.
00:18:13
Speaker
And then the next scene is just him running across and just screaming for his life. Perry the Platypus, you know, does the right thing and he heads back and he rescues Doofenshmirtz from the self-destructing building. We get a ah quick, I didn't notice this line of dialogue until I watched it the other day.
00:18:34
Speaker
But he asked if he can go back to get the little head ah of wood that the termites made of him earlier in the episode. And he asked if he can go back and get it And I'm like, sir, there's three seconds on the clock and Perry the Platypus just saved your ass.
00:18:48
Speaker
And you want to go back for this wooden little paperweight of your face? If I were Perry the Platypus, I would have dropped him right then and there in the lake and let him fend for himself. Perry the Platypus is a bigger person, so he still saves Dr. Duke instruments anyways.
00:19:02
Speaker
Slowly but surely, the boys are getting the cows back to the carnival. But one car horn and they're sent off stampeding. And they stampede off a cliff. And they end up jumping off the cliff into a conveniently placed...
00:19:18
Speaker
Cliffside water park slide. And the cows kind of have their fun. They just, they go down these slides. They do some kind of synchronized swimming. The cows are like thrown up in the air. They're like on bikes and posed in such a way that they're like on like a fountain.
00:19:33
Speaker
It's actually a little bit disturbing because at one point the cows are all like posed. Right. And then one of the cows up at the very top is spewing milk out of its udders. And that I find very disturbing. But nonetheless, it's only there for a second. And then the cows have their fun and they get out of the water park. Candace has followed them all the way from downtown on her bike to this cliffside.
00:19:58
Speaker
Her bike is actually a different color in this episode in this like scene, which is weird, like her bike is originally like a pink and purple color. And now it's red. But either way, she makes it to the cliffside.
00:20:09
Speaker
and Instead of like falling the same way that the boys and the cows felt. She falls, she bounces off the tarp that's on the slide and then she goes face first into the cliff, then falls into cactus, then a pit of snakes, then a pit of scorpions.
00:20:25
Speaker
just Candace just didn't have the best day here. We come back to Dr. D and Perry the platypus after he saved him. Perry the Wadiposa's jetpack runs out of fuel and Perry still manages to save them because parachute. He finally defeats Doofenshmirtz by hitting the reverse button on the back of his helmet.
00:20:45
Speaker
He's just like, why did I put it there? i can't even reach it back there. And then the termites come back for him and they start chasing him down. Perry lands at the carnival just as ah the boys are arriving at the carnival as well with all the cows.

Candace's Failures and Episode Conclusion

00:21:01
Speaker
And conveniently, a corral appears in front of them so that the cows will not escape just as their mom is there to pick both of them up. And Candace arrives trudging from her fall on the cliffside. She's got scrapes.
00:21:13
Speaker
Her shirt is ruined. Her hair is just a mess. And she's just like, I don't want to talk about it. And she just gets in the car. Maria, that's the end of that episode. But what are your thoughts on this one?
00:21:27
Speaker
I liked it. um I did want to say that the Candace, when she changed her bike, there could be a theory that she may have left her original bike and then found a new one because she did not have her helmet also.
00:21:44
Speaker
Didn't have her original bicycle nor her her helmet. That's true. I feel like she might have found that like bike somewhere else. Because you're right, she didn't have her helmet the second time around.
00:21:56
Speaker
Or maybe she was just like, to hell with safety. I need to get on my bike so that I can follow the boys. But I love that that bike just randomly starts appearing out of nowhere. Honestly, this episode isn't my favorite.
00:22:07
Speaker
But I feel like we'll discuss it more towards the end. I'll tell you why it isn't my favorite. And like, I'll go a little bit more into it. But like, it has to do with a lot of Doofenshmirtz's plotline. Because honestly, even Doofenshmirtz's plotline is not my favorite. I think the only significant thing that that I do like about it is that they introduced Vanessa as his daughter.
00:22:26
Speaker
But I find it funny how he introduced her as her assistant at first. Almost as if he was like, ah, I have an unpaid assistant. Yeah. Like, look how successful of an evil villain I am to have an assistant.
00:22:38
Speaker
Even then, Vanessa doesn't deal with his, like, shenanigans as Perry would. But either way, we'll get into the second episode.

Swinter Episode Begins

00:22:46
Speaker
Arguably the better episode of the of these of the set of episodes.
00:22:51
Speaker
We're going into Swinter. We're back at the Flynn Fletcher household, and this time... The boys are back under their tree, except the thing is that they're actually standing upside down underneath their tree.
00:23:05
Speaker
The reason is because that they say it's too hot for them to think about what they're going to do. So the dad provides them with something to do. He's getting rid of some things at his antique store where he and Linda work. He comes upon the snow cone machine and he shows them how to work, how it works.
00:23:21
Speaker
They put ice into it and they crank the little handle and you get snow cones. I always wanted a snow cone machine when I was younger. The one I desperately wanted was the one that was shaped like Snoopy's house.
00:23:34
Speaker
was like a little white snow machine and it had a red roof. So adorable. I really wanted them, but they were like, it was like 40 or 50 bucks. And I was like, that's too much.
00:23:46
Speaker
I was like, for crushed ice? I don't know if I'd be willing for that. But either way, the boys are eating their snow cones and that's when Phineas gets the idea of snow in July.
00:23:57
Speaker
And that's when the idea of winter in summer comes into like play and they start playing with that idea. And Candace comes to see what's what they're planning on, but she doesn't see it as worth her time.
00:24:11
Speaker
Because they're just like, oh, it's just snow cones and she could care less. And walks away. So we go back to Perry the Platypus' storyline here. He goes to his hideout to get his mission from Major Monogram.
00:24:23
Speaker
And he gets right to it. He tells Perry the Platypus... that Duven Schmertz has bought 18,000 laser pointers and they don't know what exactly what he's going to do but they know it's going to be something evil so he has to go stop them and stop him from doing whatever he's going to do. And all this time I thought Perry the Platypus was making notes of like what he was being told but in reality we get a close-up of what he's actually doing. He's drawing a picture of major monarchs. He's got great artistic skills.
00:24:48
Speaker
I gotta give him that. But I was hoping that he was actually taking like diligent notes. And we we come back to the boys have already started cranking out the snow machine and they've put um they've put a couple of dozen fans around the around the snow machine and they've made a machine that not only churns the ice it also cranks the the snow cone machine for it as for them as well and Isabella comes up to them and ask like well ask Phineas what they're going to be doing today and Phineas tells Isabella they're working Swinter and she's like what's Swinter and Ferb's
00:25:25
Speaker
reply one of the few lines that Ferb gets in this episode is that it's a combination of winter and summer Phineas points out that the fact that why can't we have winter in summer because it's too cold to enjoy winter in winter so they have it in summer so that's why they've decided to combine both things together And that's when Isabella calls out to the Firesight Girls to help make this winter a

Swinter Playground and Song

00:25:50
Speaker
reality. And all while Candace is in her room talking to, want to say, I'm pretty sure it's Stacey that she's on the phone with.
00:25:57
Speaker
They have interesting conversation. Not as and interesting as her conversation she had last episode about not being invited to a party first. But still a good conversation nonetheless.
00:26:09
Speaker
Her conversation in this one is about how cheerleaders, being a cheerleader is overrated. And how being gorgeous and popular is it's just not feasible in the real world. Like, is that going to matter in the real world? I like to think that the writers were trying to put in a layer of hidden meaning under that.
00:26:30
Speaker
of trying to like get kids to start thinking of like, hey, being pretty and popular in high school does not equate to anything in the real world. But that might I might just be reading too much into it.
00:26:41
Speaker
But I like to think that's what the writers were thinking. And at some point in the conversation, like, the her room gets dark because the snow covers her window. And Candace sticks her head out and demands to know what they're all doing.
00:26:56
Speaker
And, like, what this huge mountain of snow is in front of her her window. And the boys explain that it's winter. And that... When they get, that's when we get, then here we get the big musical number for the episode called Swinter.
00:27:10
Speaker
And the song basically explains like what Swinter is. It's got a very Christmassy like vibe to it. And it showcases everything you can do in Swinter. Like you can you can fly a kite and throw snowballs. You can play water balloon fights and it'll turn into ice.
00:27:26
Speaker
You can freeze and you can get tanned at the same time. Phineas also points out that some people call it Whummer, which is weird. I don't like that. I don't like it when if they call it Whommer. I feel like it should be Swinter. But obviously upon hearing this news that they've invented Swinter in their backyard, Candace has to call mom.
00:27:43
Speaker
But once again, we get Candace's like second kryptonite, which is Jeremy. Jeremy walks by Candace's window and with his skis and invites her to go skiing with him.
00:27:54
Speaker
But she says, oh, but I'm afraid of heights and she can't go. He says, oh, well, that's too bad. And then he ends up going with so um going up the ski lift with someone named Dee. Instead of calling mom, Candace decides to call Stacy to find out who Dee Dee is.
00:28:08
Speaker
And apparently they're a Swedish exchange student. And this fuels Candace's motivation to get over her fear of heights for just a quick second so she can run up to Jeremy on the ski lift. So she gets on the ski lift with Vanessa and this might be the first time the characters get introduced to each other. Not introduced necessarily but they're like they have like a conversation. Candace is realizes is her fear of heights again. Her fear of heights causes her to double knot her seat belt.
00:28:34
Speaker
But that was a mistake because then she can't undo the seat belt in time to get off the ski lift. We come back to Doofenshmirtz Evil

Doofenshmirtz's Chocolate Flood Plan

00:28:40
Speaker
Incorporated. Doofenshmirtz has the most beautiful trap or what he thinks is the most beautiful and perfect trap for Perry the Platypus.
00:28:47
Speaker
He's got a do not enter sign that lights up with arrows, like an arrow pointing out that this is the way to a secret hideout for Perry not to enter through. It's a trap because it'll like if he if Perry the platypus comes through that that trap, as soon as he closes the door, like a piano will fall on his head.
00:29:06
Speaker
and therefore by ending Perry the Platypus. Perry the Platypus manages to evade all of that because he used the back door. and that's when like Doofenshmirtz notices that Perry's standing like right next to him.
00:29:19
Speaker
And he gets mad because the maid forgot to lock the back door. And he makes a memo to himself saying that his evil deed for tomorrow is going to be to fire the maid. Dr. D having a backup plan, he ends up trapping Perry in a quick hardening chocolate that's supposed to be his like secret recipe.
00:29:36
Speaker
And he starts by telling him a couple things. We learned that Dr. D has suffered a popularity low and he shows him a graph on how his like popularity has dropped from low to lower to ouch. And he's like, this is this is really bad for me.
00:29:51
Speaker
And then the second thing we know we learn is that his plan is that he use his plan. He plans to use an invention that he calls the Meltonator 65000, I think is what it's called, but we'll call it the Meltonator that uses the 18000 lasers that he purchased and it has a melting capacity of seven on a scale of one to five.
00:30:12
Speaker
He plans to use this to melt the chocolatier downtown and it'll run through the streets of Danville. It'll collect the chocolate from the street and then he'll add his secret ingredients and make the most irresistible chocolate that you've ever had. This plan is not the best execution wise.
00:30:29
Speaker
I don't understand. This plan of his is missing something and I don't know what it is. But I feel like I'll go into it a little bit later. And because Dr. D is used to some kind of response from Perry the platypus, whether that's like an eye roll or like the chattering of his teeth, but because he hardened him in chocolate, Perry can't give any kind of signal that he heard any of his plan.
00:30:51
Speaker
So he just decides that he's going to repeat himself over again. So he starts repeating himself. But before we get the whole spiel again, we cut back to Phineas and Ferb's house.
00:31:02
Speaker
And Candace has a determination to make it up this hill. And she puts little little ties, little tennis rackets to her feet. But she doesn't make it very far because someone with the dog sled runs her over. She gets the idea that she'll she'll have someone plow her up this her sled. She gets Buehver to do it and pays him in like a treat.
00:31:20
Speaker
Like I think it's gummy candy is what she pays him. Dr. D then like, vivia well, maybe his plan wasn't to melt the chocolatier chocolate. here chocolate I think he used the chocolatier to do an example like of what his machine can do, his innator could do, but his real plan was to melt the biggest chocolate bar that's on its way to the Smithsonian. Doofenshmirt's biggest mistake is the fact that he had the opportunity to melt this chocolate But because he's so used to Perry the Platypus thwarting his plan before he even gets to push the button, he's literally giving him the opportunity to stop him.
00:31:55
Speaker
And that gives Perry the Platypus enough time to break out of his mold because he eats his own behind so that he can escape from the chocolate and thwart Dr. Doofenshmirtz. And as they're fighting to take control of his innator, they accidentally move the innator to change positions as to where it's pointing. And it ends up pointing at the Flynn Fletcher car that mom and dad are driving home from the antique convention. And it melts the tires. Lucky for them, they're coming home from the convention with a giant cuckoo clock and four spare tires. Candice finally makes it to the top of the hill and marches up to Jeremy and Didi, but ends up slipping on either the ice or like a pond.
00:32:32
Speaker
She falls off a cliff, lands in a lake where people are ice fishing, and someone catches her in the lake and she's frozen solid. But as soon as she spots Jeremy and Didi skating together and Jeremy points out, oh, you're such a great skier, Didi, the anger just like in Candice melts down.
00:32:52
Speaker
her the ice that she's entrapped that's just when her brothers come by snowboarding because they're in a snowboarding competition and all three of them end up on the snowboard together and there's this funny running gag of all three of them going through like a snowman and it misses both Phineas and Ferb but they end up on Candace and also the pine tree she also ends up covered in like pine needles and branches but it completely evaded Phineas and Ferb And even then they point out, be like, now how did that miss us?
00:33:24
Speaker
They fall off the snow mountain again. And Candace like ends up like lands on Ferb's shoulders. And they end up on a bobsled, like one of those bobsled ramps. And they have to climb over this three person bobsled.
00:33:37
Speaker
And each one of those people is named Bob. And Phineas is like, oh, that's a bobsled. So he's like, pardon me, Bob, one man Bob, which funny gag that they have. They launch off of that bobsled thing. And Candace ends up upside down holding on to the snowboard. And they kind of bounce off of a hot air balloon.
00:33:56
Speaker
And they end up in the clouds and they make a cloud angel. falling back down to earth and the boys land right on first place on the little pedestal for first place holding the snowboard with Candace sitting on top beautiful landing 10 out of 10 and of course Jeremy is there and he goes right up to Candace and tells her that like oh look at her she's such a swinter athlete and that's when Jeremy introduces Candice to Dee Dee, the voice, that the the sass ah that Candice delivers where she's just like, I don't think I had the pleasure of meeting Dee Dee yet.
00:34:28
Speaker
When Jeremy introduces Dee Dee, we find out that he's a Swedish exchange student whose name is Derek Dukinson. Candice just gets so excited because just as she's like You know, everything feels like it's going right for Candace because the the car horn sounds at the front of the house and she finds out that her mom and dad are back. And she's like, great, things are going her way, but not so fast because we get back to Agent B and Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
00:34:56
Speaker
And DeFentimurts is able to subdue Perry the platypus with some sticky string in a can that he just happened to have. And kind of, Dr. D just kind of ends up thwarting himself because he has to plug in the machine because it takes up so much power.
00:35:12
Speaker
In plugging that machine, it actually causes a power outage throughout the entire tri-state area to the point where the power plant people are running back and forth not knowing how it happened or how to stop it or how to like bring the power back on and because of there's a power outage the fans that kept the snow cold go off and therefore melting the entire snow and putting an end to swinter unfortunately and before everyone starts to riot because the snow melted Isabella quick thinking that she is invites everyone over to for her to her house for hot chocolate Just as the snow is melting, the parents don't notice that the that the snow mountain is slowly coming down.
00:35:53
Speaker
And everything washes away. And just like that, when Candace finally gets her parents to check out the backyard, they see nothing, of course, because the snow melted away.

Swinter's End and Candace's Frustration

00:36:04
Speaker
And the boys are just sitting there enjoying their snow cones.
00:36:07
Speaker
Candace is defeated and she plows her face into a snow cone. And that's that's the end of Swinter and the Magnificent View. But... Overall, Maria, what were your thoughts on Swinter?
00:36:19
Speaker
I think this one was the better of the two. I like this episode more. Also, it's it's better Swinter than Wummer. Wummer sounds weird. The W and the U makes it sound so weird.
00:36:31
Speaker
Yeah, it's just Swinter just rolls off the top. It's a funner name to say. i do, because to be honest, you i even mentioned it last episode how when I listed out the title, I was like, I don't remember The Magnificent Few, but I remembered Swinter.
00:36:46
Speaker
And then when I watched it, I was like, oh, this one was a Magnificent Few. It's not my favorite. I really didn't care for it that much. The musical numbers in that one are not the best either because it's just On the Trail and In the Mall, which is just basically the same version of On the Trail, but the lyrics are slightly different. Swinter is a more memorable episode, and I don't know if it's because the song...
00:37:10
Speaker
Or it's because like, you know, it plays on the idea of like when you were a kid in summer, you were like, dang, I wish it was winter because it's cold outside and you know, you can play out in the snow. Whereas opposed to in summer, it's just always so hot and there's not much to do unless you're like at a pool or by a beach or something. I have to say the reason I don't like these episodes that much.
00:37:31
Speaker
is because I have an issue like i kind of hinted at it a little bit in both episodes but I don't like I don't like Doofenshmirtz's ploys in either of these episodes there is no both of these innators and like these inventions his like evil plans lacked some panache i I expected more from Dr. Doofenshmirtz at this point because they're missing they're missing a backstory.
00:37:56
Speaker
there i know that's terrible for me to say, but I'm just like, where is the tragic backstory in Dr. Doofenshmirtz? Like, why is he doing this? In the first one, he has a better reasoning for it because, you know, he cornered the market.
00:38:09
Speaker
on aluminum foil not aluminum foil aluminum siding he cornered the market in that so he can make his money back but also it doesn't make sense because like I think like so you've cornered the market on an aluminum siding you're just using it to get your money back nothing else that's it that's the beginning and that's the end As for like his plan in the second one, melting the chocolate, like what it was he going to do? Become like Willy Wonka and just sell the chocolate out of like a markup? I have no idea. And it looks like he put fish in his chocolate recipe at one point.
00:38:42
Speaker
And I was like, no one's going to buy that chocolate. Who? Why? Like, what is your reasoning? I don't understand. And this is probably one of like the weaker episodes when it comes to like Dr. Doofenshmirtz's like innators.
00:38:55
Speaker
As for like the Phineas and Ferb's like little, adventures here. I don't like herding cattle through the city is not i don't think anyone was like, oh, let's herd cattle through the city like that would be fun. But like Swintern, Swintern

Swinter vs. The Magnificent Few

00:39:08
Speaker
definitely fun. You kidding me? Like having a little snow cone machine and making snow.
00:39:13
Speaker
For the entire neighborhood. And like having like skiing. And like snowboarding. And bobsledding all in one. During the summer. That's amazing. Again these episodes are kind of mid. Except for Swinter maybe. Maybe it's just the Magnificent View.
00:39:27
Speaker
But other than that. where would you Where would you rank the music. In these two episodes. I mean I liked the Swinter. The song in Swinter. Better than the many Magnificent View. But it's not my favorite. It's not like up there.
00:39:43
Speaker
Both of these were mid, and I think you're right. The Swinter song was better than In the Mall. I think because in the last two episodes, we've gotten at least... Well, the last episode, we got at least two songs.
00:39:58
Speaker
in in each episode. So Swinter only having one song feels a little off. But I think they fix that later on, like later on, they get more music in it. But we're still just at the beginning of this.
00:40:11
Speaker
In the mall, like, okay, so maybe the thing is, The Magnificent View had like funny running gags. I think that's what it is. That one had more funnier gags, because it had the cows like trying on things in the dressing room.
00:40:23
Speaker
Cows possibly like eating burgers in the cafeteria. Cows going down like a water slide. Like those, those were all fun gags. Swinter had a few of them, but again, like this, this episode was

Disney References Discussion

00:40:36
Speaker
just not memorable. oh and by the way, you are right. So like the no Buena Vista in the subway tunnel is supposed to be like a nod to the distribution arm of the Walt Disney company was learned, known as Lake Buena Vista until 2007. And I think this episode came out in like 2008.
00:40:53
Speaker
Because the Walt Disney Company later renamed that to Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture. People also say that apparently it says, like it says No Buena Vista, which means no good view, but could also be a very an abbreviation for North Buena Vista.
00:41:08
Speaker
We're going to try to like rank these songs. So that was our big thing. We were going to do tier list where we're going to rank, each individually rank our songs, but within then we we'll come together and like rank them together.
00:41:19
Speaker
But we are working on that. Should we do our tier lists at the end of this season? Yeah, I think that's what we'll do. Like, we'll work on them as we progress throughout the season.
00:41:31
Speaker
But we will, I feel like we'll give a top five episodes. And then we'll also, like, give our rankings for our for the songs in this in this season.
00:41:42
Speaker
If that works out. Yeah, sounds so good. I'm trying to figure out what's the next episode. I know one of them is the flop stars, but I can't remember what the second episode is.
00:41:54
Speaker
so let me find that out real quick. The fourth episode is are you Are You My Mummy and Flop Stars. Yes, that's what it is. Are You My Mummy and Flop Stars.

Anticipation for Upcoming Episodes

00:42:07
Speaker
Again, both episodes. so Those are very memorable episodes. I love those episodes. Would I have paired them together? but don't think so. But they work very well together. And it has one of the catchiest songs of Phineas and Ferb, like, ever.
00:42:24
Speaker
So. But other than that, any final thoughts? Anything you want to add to this episode? um i'm excited for the this next episode you've hyped it up so i'm excited for what's in store yes it is a great episode you will not be disappointed i can't wait to watch this next episode so um that is all from from us from the tri-state area takeover i will leave you with fine just get in the car cranky pants that's the only one i could think of we will see y'all the next episode
