Finding Purpose in Pain
00:00:00
Speaker
And lastly, i would I would add that there's always purpose in your pain. You know, it might sound crazy, but there's purpose in your pain because we often don't see the bigger picture when we are in pain, not at all. We don't look for the lessons in your struggle and know that you are stronger and resilient than you think. You are never alone, reach out to people, pray to God and trust in His time and It's very important. Trust in God's time.

Inspiration Behind the Book
00:01:22
Speaker
So could you start by sharing the inspiration behind my tea that is? What led you to write this book? Thank you for your question. um You know, um growing up I kept a diary and this is something I think about every time. I love to write down my thoughts when I was a child. So I had this book where I put down my thoughts, how I felt, you know? So when I became ill, there was no better way to express my emotions than to jot everything down, the good and the bad. It didn't matter. Whatever I thought about, I wrote down. And there were many nights where I couldn't sleep because I was in pain in some part of my body. I would just write it down. i I would write what I was feeling down. So the diary became some sort of
00:02:14
Speaker
my safe space and eventually led to or gave back to this book. So that I would say the inspiration behind Mighty That He Is came from this deep sense to share my story, the story of faith and them resilience. you know Writing this book to me, I hope would encourage people to never give up.
00:02:41
Speaker
It looks like this generation, maybe my generation gives up so easily. So I pray they will not give up. Okay, so so so just as you put it, um the title of your book suggests the journey of resilience and faith. So ha how has your personal faith played a role in overcoming the challenges you write about?
Faith and Overcoming Challenges
00:03:00
Speaker
I built my faith in Christ at an early stage because I saw my parents you know live a Christ-like life, in my opinion. you know They believed in God. They relied on God for everything. Most of the time, I would attend church with my mom to get to know about this God she so dearly loved. I watched her life, and I believe that um God will not disappoint her or allow anything bad to happen to her. And this is something I talked about. you know When you are young,
00:03:34
Speaker
I would say you are naive, you love God so much, so why would anything bad happen to you? So yes, I would say that knowing God at an early stage in my life sustained me of some sort and kept me through all the challenges I went through. My faith in God against all odds, I knew I wouldn't die. That was not something I thought about at the age of 12 growing up.
00:04:02
Speaker
At that stage, I didn't think about that because I knew I wouldn't die. I didn't think about that as a worst-case scenario. Even though my faith as I grew up wavered throughout all these challenges, I knew God would sustain me, and I spent most of the time praying.
00:04:20
Speaker
and then reflecting on scriptures just because I heard and I saw my mom do that. My mom prayed over me all the time. My mom read the scriptures to me. Whether I understood it or not, in the night she would come and do that on me. God's word became some sort of an anchor that I held on so tightly, even when I couldn't see the way forward.
00:04:42
Speaker
yeah that that's That's very deep. um So your book highlights some challenges you faced. Can you briefly tell us about it and how did this shape the message of your book?
Health Challenges and Resilience
00:04:55
Speaker
I would say throughout my life, early life, I faced significant health challenges that impacted me physically, mentally, emotionally, and basically nearly every part of my life. Those years If I remember correctly, it was so painful. I was i was in tears all the time. There were a lot of uncertainties, like the constant struggle to make sense of my situation, whilst at the same time hold on to faith you know and hope that I would get better, I would feel better. There were times when I felt alone, I felt depressed. Those days, I didn't know it was depression, but now I know that I was depressed.
00:05:41
Speaker
and i felt out of control of my own body because of the tremors I had. You don't have control over them. It just happened. And and when when it's happening, it it stresses your whole body up. I feel pain from head to toe, depending on what's happening. So each day, I long to wake up feeling better. It was something I looked forward to. So when I wake up in the morning and I'm still in pain, my neck, I'm having headaches,
00:06:11
Speaker
You just move on because that's what it is. It didn't stop me from hoping and praying that I would wake up the next morning feeling better. you know I still couldn't understand or accept my situation, but in all that, I learned to persevere and push through with prayers and encouragement from my family and the people around me.
00:06:37
Speaker
So these experiences are the foundation of the mind that he is. The support from my family, men and women of God, who I grew with at that time, shaped this book.
Support Systems During Trials
00:06:52
Speaker
It teaches us about the value of faith and the importance of not giving up. Even when you know the situation is so daunting and it looks like there's no hope,
00:07:05
Speaker
I hope that readers would learn to rely on God, you know because He kept me, He sustained me. And for me, God brought me through this wilderness. So I pray that this book will make people believe that, like what the Word of God says, that we are chosen, we are holy, and we are dearly loved by God. It doesn't matter what we are going through. The Word of God is,
00:07:33
Speaker
Like he's not a man to lie. So I believe that people will really, really, truly believe in the depth of their heart that gor haseepu foran God has for for your life. And these are experiences my guest Kezia Ayan is sharing today on this episode, this special book review episode of the Entrepreneur Speaks Podcast. So Kezia tell me,
00:08:00
Speaker
um Writing a book such as yours must be difficult and emotionally draining. Was there a moment when sharing your experiences felt particularly challenging, and how did you work through through to
Writing Process and Timing
00:08:13
Speaker
such moments? All the time. All the time. there were There were moments where I didn't want to publish a book anymore. I just didn't want to do it anymore. But there was this deep sense of bedding. I was bedding to let the book go.
00:08:30
Speaker
And I just couldn't shake it off. I can't explain how I felt, but it was a burden on me. And I knew that at a point I had to let the book go. So from my human side, I tried as much as possible to put it off for as long as I could. you know But looking back, I believe that I published at the right time. But really even my experience is over and over again was overwhelming.
00:08:59
Speaker
I remember my mom and I having to sit hours trying to remember the experiences I had encountered and what I have been through. you know There were days where I would cry, because I couldn't imagine that like just one person would go through so much, and I wondered how I made it. you know And growing up, I had so much faith. I was so strong. Emotionally, I had so much faith.
00:09:30
Speaker
Like I said, I knew I wouldn't die. And my parents had to go through all these emotions whilst reviewing the book as well. But at the end, I reflected on how far God had brought me. And I thought about people who are going through similar challenges. It might not be health, but it might be something. Financial, it could be anything. And what my story can do for them.
00:09:59
Speaker
i I remind myself that it's not about me, you know it's about the bigger picture. And this whole realization gave me the strength to push through, to complete this book. So whenever I felt overwhelmed, I put it off. I mean, I just stopped writing, I stopped reading. And then I gave myself a breather because I knew that no matter what I do, I had to publish it. And I i gave myself the time I needed and then I went back to it.
00:10:28
Speaker
Yeah. so So surely it was difficult. It was difficult trying to publish this book, but I did it with God's help. Yes. Yes, you did it with God's help. Now let's delve into some more details. What key lessons or messages do you hope readers of your book will take away from from mighty diet? I pray that um people will keep hope alive at all times.
00:10:55
Speaker
no matter their situation, no matter how they feel, because sometimes as human as we are, we are more resilient than we think. A new day will surely come, nothing is permanent. And I believe deeply in the power of prayer, because it's for me, it's the only way to communicate with God, the only way.
00:11:18
Speaker
So I hope readers will be inspired by my story to sort of like seek a deeper relationship with God. Reading the word, praying, just just speak to him like you are speaking to any other person. Because for me, I believe that the foundation, without this foundation, in my opinion, we have nothing, you know, and people need to learn the value of the love of a family and friends around you.
Maintaining Hope and Relationships
00:11:45
Speaker
I hope people would surround themselves with people, other people who share their faith and be very intentional about their support system, the people they allow in their comfort zone and in their space. We have to learn to cherish the people in our life and never take them for granted because life as it is now, it's very fleeting, it has always been. And every day is a blessing.
00:12:11
Speaker
No matter what we are going through, once the dawn breaks, I believe, you know, there's always hope. There's always hope. So never give up. and like yeah Never give Never give up. Life is a blessing. You also talk...
00:12:26
Speaker
In your submission, you mentioned the power of prayer, of reading the Word, and also having a supportive system. In your case, a supportive family system. But are there specific practices or things you mentioned in the book that helped you rise above your difficult situations? Yeah, think i I can think about a few.
Daily Prayer and Intentional Living
00:12:50
Speaker
um I believe that my life, like growing up, I believe that my life has to reflect the very essence of God, you know, and
00:13:02
Speaker
There are certain deliberate practices that I do. like For instance, on a daily basis, I talk to God. When you wake up in the morning, pray with my kids, pray with my husband. It doesn't matter what you are doing. I pray along the line. I pray about everything. It doesn't matter how small it is. You know you have to be very intentional about it. Because for me, I believe that I'm here because of God's grace and mercy. That's it.
00:13:32
Speaker
That's it. I don't take the glory for anything. It's just by His grace that I'm alive. So I commit everything. I try to be very deliberate. I never leave God behind. My plans, everything, everything. When I'm happy, when I'm sad, I try to involve God in it. like And we cannot leave, I believe that we cannot leave our life carelessly. We just can't.
00:13:57
Speaker
I held on to hope for the future without even knowing how things would turn up. Deep within me, I believed in God. And this is something I'm still deliberately doing, no matter what. OK.
Fear of Sharing Personal Struggles
00:14:13
Speaker
So your book is a 14-chapter book. um Walk us through the writing process. How how long did it take? and And I think you mentioned it earlier. But I'll ask again, did you at any point consider giving up? Yes, Kofi, I did so many times.
00:14:29
Speaker
So i'm writing this book has been a lifelong journey for me. It has been. It wasn't like um I sat down and I started writing stuff about my past and all that.
00:14:44
Speaker
It has been, throughout the writing process, it was a moment of reflection into my experiences, my pain, the healing process, my faith, my relationship with my family and the people are around me. you know There were moments where I felt afraid about the total of publishing. I was so afraid there was this fear to let this book go.
00:15:09
Speaker
because naturally I am, if you know me so well, I am a private person, very private person. And I believe that it shouldn't be very surprising, considering and what I've been through. I like to keep to myself, to be in my space. So sharing my story meant exposing the struggles that I had faced. And that for me was incredibly challenging.
00:15:36
Speaker
you know I delayed the process as I said before, as as long as I could. I was so hesitant to reveal any personal details of my life, but I believed that God is never too early or too late. That's why I said before that the publishing the timing for the publishing was just on point. It wasn't too early, it wasn't too late.
00:15:59
Speaker
So despite all the fears and uncertainties I had, I was able to push through. And this book was published, which I'm so grateful for. So there were definitely moments where I thought about giving up a lot of times, a lot of times.
00:16:16
Speaker
And I remember my mom saying that you would publish at the right time, so you just hold on, it will be the right time. And you would also notice that the book begins and ends with few testimonials. I believe these were fantastic auditions suggested by a good friend, maybe months, some months before I published, some months before. And I decided to include them because growing up, I taught all my pictures, everything.
00:16:46
Speaker
because I had low self-esteem and at the point I was on steroids. So that meant I gained some weight, a lot of weight. I remember there was a moment where my friends in I think primary school, junior high school came to visit me and I was in bed. So my mom came to the room and said, you have some few friends who wants to come and say hello. And I covered myself with a blanket. I didn't let them see me.
00:17:12
Speaker
That was how self-conscious I was. And I couldn't bear to look at myself in the mirror, so I destroyed most of my pictures. So the testimonials for me provide readers with valuable insight into how they saw me growing up and what their perception was, and how far God has brought me throughout these challenges and good process.
00:17:41
Speaker
So yeah, it has been challenging. It was challenging. But I put through, I put through. So how long did it take to put this book together? Like I said, my whole life, I go back to it, I stop. And then for three years, I hadn't opened the book, the diary, to even transfer it into a laptop to review it. So I had long years where I hadn't gone to it. I took long breaks.
00:18:11
Speaker
okay I think it was actually 2018 that I said to myself, I have to start reading and reviewing this book. So I typed everything onto my laptop. Even after that, it took two years before I went back to it again. you know and Even two years ago, maybe two, three years ago before I published, when I found a publisher, he changed me for a year.
00:18:38
Speaker
Because I don't want to even talk to him again. So it's it's taken a while taking a It's taking a while. Okay. Let's still talk about the book. um Can you share um an example of a story or a chapter in the book that you think readers will deeply resonate? Okay. You know, genuinely, I believe that um every chapter in the book will resonate with readers, regardless of where they are in their faith or how strong they are in their work with God or anything, and them or whoever is discovering Christ. It could be any period in your life. Each chapter highlights different stages in my life, from primary school to junior high school to senior high school, and then to the university.
Universal Resonance of Personal Stories
00:19:27
Speaker
the relationships I formed over time, and all that. And then I believe that all these experiences are universal, and they touch on various themes of love, faith, and how we relate with people. That said, and I believe that Chapter 8 and 11, which I would just give you a glimpse of it. Abe talks about the issues I had with my side and depression and how at a point I thought about taking my life.
00:19:58
Speaker
And then chapter 11 talks about life in the uni, which was completely different, university, which was completely different because at that time I was matured. and There were, it was a different terrain for me. I had to take care of myself. You had to form like relationship groups to study where I struggled so much with all that.
00:20:22
Speaker
And now we live we live in a time where many people are struggling with various challenges, you know, pursuing education, career, raising family, and people are silently battling with severe illness or issues they barely can talk about. And these struggles, I believe they take a toll on us. And most of the time we don't talk about it.
00:20:52
Speaker
And they they take a toll on our mental health as well. But I'm grateful that now, in the time that we are in conversations around mental health, are more widespread, I believe, with people making the conscious effort to discuss their issues on platforms or with with various people. And having a strong system right now is more essential than anything.
00:21:19
Speaker
You know, because you you should have people who want to push you to be better versions of yourself without judgment. We all have our cross to carry, but we have selfless people who would put their issues on hold and intercede for you. And this is something I pray that each individual will find in a friend or in a family.
00:21:41
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. You've answered part of my next question, but I still want to ask a question. um um um how How do you see this book helping people who are currently facing similar challenges you faced or challenges you highlighted?
Book as a Source of Hope and Growth
00:21:56
Speaker
Yeah. Like I said before, this book, I believe, will serve as a source of hope, encouragement,
00:22:05
Speaker
and then will help build faith in people facing similar challenges or even if it held challenges it's For me, it's not just about a story about my struggle, but a testimonial of God's grace, mercy, and the power of perseverance.
00:22:26
Speaker
The book touches on faith, resilient relationships, and personal growth for me, which makes it relatable to people, I think. So I would encourage people to hold on to hope regardless of what they see or feel. That's very important. You know, God is always working behind the scenes. We might not see Him now, but He's definitely working. So I believe that this book will actually but help people to draw from their experiences. Their experiences are never in vain.
00:23:01
Speaker
You know, what you go through is never in vain. There's a lesson there to learn. So I believe that people would actually draw from these lessons and build their faith in them. Amen. Amen. Because you leave these challenges and it is your story that you write about. So you told your story in you. What was the most surprising thing you learned about yourself while writing Mighty Daddy?
Self-Reliance and Purpose through Writing
00:23:26
Speaker
Writing in this book was actually an eye-opening journey of self-discovery for me. you know Through the process, I realized that I can accomplish anything, anything I set my mind to, no matter how daunting it seems. you know I discovered that the only fear I have is a reference for God.
00:23:50
Speaker
you know Fear has a way of crippling us, like making you feel like you are powerless. But this experience that I've been through has revealed this inner strength that I never knew I had. It sort of reaffirms the belief that I'm alive for your purpose. you know You have a story to tell, to inspire people.
00:24:16
Speaker
you know And then I'm alive, like I said before, solely by God's grace and mercy. I don't need for myself. I'm only alive. I'm here at this particular moment, this minute, just by God's grace. And that each chapter of my life, no matter how painful or challenging it has been, has shaped who I am today, the woman I am today. you know It has given me this deep sense of empathy.
00:24:43
Speaker
i I can't explain it. this I have this deep sense of empathy for people and a strong desire to ass extend myself to them whenever I can. I don't do this without prayer. I do this for the spirit of discernment to be able to know who to help and what to do because it's very important that you know that.
00:25:05
Speaker
and They have influenced even the relationships I formed and how I connect with people. Nothing is done in isolation. It's it's just because of my experiences and how God has built me to be. I believe that shows strongly. And I have come to understand that my life, as I know it has meaning, and God has more than me like to be who I am today.
00:25:34
Speaker
Nothing I've done or nothing I've gone through has been in vain. It's all part of a bigger picture. And I see it. I see it vividly in my life, in my work, in my family. I see it. I see it playing out.
Confidence in God's Presence
00:25:48
Speaker
And sometimes I think back and I have this conversation with my mom that everything has worked out you know for good. It actually has.
00:25:57
Speaker
So writing in this book has given me this confidence in myself and knowing that God is always with me, no matter what, he's always with me and he will fight for me. You might not see it, you might not even feel it, but he is fighting for me. I believe that's true. All right. We're just about wrapping up our conversation for today. um But where can our listeners grab copies of your book?

00:26:43
Speaker
OK, I have read it, and and I encourage my listeners to go grab copies of of of the book. and and And after reading, your life will not be the same. I would encourage you to go grab copies of of of her book, Mighty That He Is. So before we sign off, what would be your advice?
00:27:08
Speaker
What advice would you give to someone who is struggling to find hope in tough times or struggles he or she is going through? What would be your advice to such a person?
Advice on Hope and Faith
00:27:21
Speaker
Hmm, my final word. Okay, to anyone struggling to find hope in tough times, my first piece of advice would be never give up. Don't give up.
00:27:33
Speaker
You know, no matter how dark your situation might seem, remember that nothing is permanent. Challenges are not permanent. This too shall pass. It will definitely end. Just hold on a little bit more. Just hold on. You know, you you can start by uncovering yourself in faith. Spend time with God. Spend time talking to God. If you can't pray as in speak, just meditate. Meditate on His Word.
00:28:04
Speaker
You know, speak to him like you would speak to any other person, your friend, whoever. Just see God as a friend because he listens to prayers. And I believe that the second piece of advice would be to surround ourselves with genuine people, people who really do care about you. And you pray for the spirit of discernment to be able to know such people.
00:28:29
Speaker
You know, people who would stand with you when you can't pray for yourself, they would pray for you when you can't pray for yourself. That I believe it's a gift, it's a precious gift that we should all pray for. I also encourage people to take life easy, take a day at a time, don't rush situation. Don't overwhelm yourself with, you know, with with situation, trying to solve every issue at once.
00:28:56
Speaker
There's time and season for everything and then turn gold for your life. Be very deliberate about it. Turn gold for the gift of life. If you have life, I believe that there's definitely hope. And lastly, I would i would add that there's always purpose in your pain. You know, in my son, crazy, but there's purpose in your pain because we often don't see the bigger picture when we are in pain, not at all. We don't.
00:29:26
Speaker
Look for the lessons in your struggle and know that you are stronger and resilient than you think. You are never alone, reach out to people, pray to God and trust in His timing. It's very important, trust in God's timing and keep hope alive. Thank you so much.
00:29:46
Speaker
Trust in God's timing and keep hope alive. I said that was our last question, but I'm being led to ask one more thing from you, Kezia. So I would follow God's prompting and ask you. So I'm being prompted to ask you to say a word of prayer before we wrap up
